#Kind of like when Elena from TVD turned off her emotions?

You know what I always wanted? An episode where Kagome actually manages to give in to the Darkness in her heart and it would be up to Inuyasha this time to snap her out of it and bring her back to her senses (paralleling how she always manages to bring him back whenever he goes into full demon mode), kinda like the 1st movie or the Tsubaki arc but like better because this time it wouldn’t just be Kagome’s body under the control of another but her mind as well due to giving into all her insecurities regarding Kikyo.

Honestly? This is such a good concept that it deserved to be its own freaking arc. The potential for angst and character development is insane. The parallels with Inuyasha, the parallels with Kikyo.

"You really are my reincarnation, walking the same path I did" except Kagome is walking her own path, based on her own decisions, because of her own feelings and then dealing with the aftermatch of her own actions after Inuyasha manages to bring her back.

I think it's brilliant because Inuyasha was always so terrified of Kagome dying on him that he doesn't really worry about all the other ways he can lose her. Or rather, he does, but it's never really explored in a serious or satisfying manner.

And the irony of it all? Like, Kagome being the one constantly afraid Inuyasha would forget about her if he goes full demon, only for her to turn the tables? Cinema.

i've seen you answer a few questions about tvd so i thought i might ask, what are your thoughts on the main love triangle? and klaus/stefan?

As a caveat: I did not watch much further than the first few episodes of season 4, in fact I ragequit when one of the writers revealed we wouldn't be seeing Elijah on screen again until 4x20 at which point I thought, "Well I simply won't watch until 4x20 then".

And then 4x20 was a backdoor pilot to the spinoff The Originals and I simply watched that show instead.

All this to say, I was 100% a gung ho Vampire Diaries fan and you can tell by how closely I was following it, sadly the only TVD I know of would be the first three seasons. Same actually goes for The Originals, as I for reasons I don't remember wasn't able to access episodes post-season 3 so I wound up not knowing what happens after Hayley drives off with the entire family hibernating in her truck either.

Another disclaimer: it's been more than ten years since I watched this show and my memory may fail me at times.

With that:

The main love triangle

Having only seen the first three seasons, I think that Damon wishes quite badly he was a different man, and he is unable to take responsibility for his life and relationships being what they are. He would rather blame his failings on Stefan, and, whenever Stefan fails or falls short in some ways, it's immensely validating to Damon because who's the bad brother now?

His love for Katherine is not only about Katherine, but about being chosen by someone over Stefan. Because, as Damon will try to tell himself, just because she was sleeping with both of them and decided to turn them both, doesn't mean she didn't prefer Damon (after all, she had to compell Stefan, while Damon slept with her willingly. Victory for Damon!), and also- look, don't question Damon on this. It's fine and he's a well adjusted man, and once he has rescued his lady love from her tomb she'll tell him how much better he is than Stefan.

Enter Elena, who looks exactly like Katherine, is living in Mystic Falls just the same as Katherine, and who has drawn Stefan's interest.

Damon, eternally pulling Stefan's pigtails and being a goddamn creep, starts creeping on Elena, this does not work. Instead, however, he learns that Katherine faked her entombment, and has in fact been living her best life for the past 150 years. Worse, Damon and Stefan were never more than boytoys to her.

Cut to Elena, who is just as beautiful (in a very literal sense of the term), only she is kind, genuinely loves Stefan, the polar opposite of Katherine in every way.

Damon transfers his emotions from Doppelganger B to Doppelganger C.

Stefan, meanwhile, seems to... fall in with Elena, for lack of a better way to put it. They meet, he is confused about the resemblance to Katherine for long enough to get to know her, by which time he's into it, and Elena sees a very handsome and pleasant man who is easy to fall for.

The trouble with Stefan is I don't really have a grip on his character, he is... there, for three seasons, and he has his character moments and his speeches, I can tell you things about his personality except I can't.

He is one of those people you can know for years but never actually know who, having killed his father and become the Ripper for so many years, seems to be that he is running away from himself. That is the only way I can interpret his strange nothingness, as well as bizarre decisions like coming to live with his nephew Zach and attend high school.

I think Stefan wants to surround himself with people, form relationships with them, and through that find a sense of identity that he can enjoy. Which is where loving Elena comes in, as she is kind, generous, mature, vulnerable, and fun- the type of person you can lose yourself in, and have those simple moments of happiness Florence Welch sings about.

In other words, while my real ship here is Elejah, Stelena trumps Delena any day.

Klaus and Stefan

Klaus is a deeply sad person who is only interested in dating two people, and they are his sister Rebekah and his brother Elijah. At the time he met Stefan Elijah wasn't around, so Stefan became replacement Elijah.

(The proof of the Elijah projection lies in the fact that Klaus was fine with Stefan sleeping with Rebekah. He is historically not fine with outsiders doing this, you have to be family for Klaus to accept these things.)

"Look, Elijah," Klaus would imagine himself saying to Elijah, "I have a new brother now and he is hotter, cooler, and not a total bore like you! Stefan loves me more anyway," and then Elijah would sit and cry and give Klaus so much attention and it would be great.

As for Stefan, I think he just liked partying.

They probably did fuck, but Klaus is too embarrassing for Stefan to ever admit as much.

Hope’s Either Stupid or The Next Great Evil In The Making

This is just my opinion.

So, don’t get me wrong, I liked Humanity-off Hope (mostly because she reminded me of Klaus), I thought she was a real badass. 

But, looking at it from a realistic perspective, that is not a good thing, especially for the world as a whole.

Like were constantly told how Hope is ‘the most powerful being in existence’, but that is a REALLY scary thought, because that would mean the strongest being is: a 19 year old hormonal teenager who can’t handle life. 

Like I get that she’s a teenager and a real person who feels emotions, but were told two very contradicting things. How Hope is strong, but all I see is that she can’t handle herself. Sure her parents are dead (which I do kind of blame her for), but she isn’t frickin alone! And it pisses me off that when people try to help her, she’s like “I don’t need it” and then she plays the “I’m alone in this world” card, and I’m like NO YOUR FIRCKIN NOT! Your not an orphan, you have Freya, Kol, Davina, Marcel, Keelin! You wanna see a real orphan, look at Landon! 

And now to the stupid vs evil part. 

In season 5 of The Originals we see her create a hybrid (and promptly kill him), for no other reason than so she can go home. Like ever heard of a device called a phone, yeah, it’s been around since 1876, and has only gotten better. Or you know, wait until christmas break or something (isn't like you already decided to take the hollow in you and were on a time limit - no, you where only an impatient teenager)

Then, she pressedes, to lock her mother, who does in fact have enemies in a ‘safe location’. All so she can carry out her plan of “Reuniting her family” (Read: Operation Kill Elijah and Klaus). Like come on, we all know I don’t like Hayley and I thought the whole show would have been much better if she’d been killed in TVD, but A) from Hope’s perspective she was still her mother, so B) doing that, just seemed heartless and evil in my books (or really stupid).

So this whole “the end justifies the means” makes me think she’s either A) Just down right STUPID, or B) Doesn't give a flyin F who gets hurt or dies as long as she can get what she wants. She’s literally turning into a Elena - just with powers - which is worse!

Like the idea of an all powerful tribrid could have been so cool! But they just screwed her up. I liked Hope when she was a kid, but then teenager Hope literally destroyed her. (And that’s why Lizzie is my all time favorite character). Like I wanted to like Hope so bad (because she was Klaus daughter), but her character was literally turned into dog chow.

I rewatched The Dark Tower for the Arwen/Gwen crumbs, and I noticed that, when Elyan finds Gwen in the room with the sword, she says Morgana spelled it to “protect” her. At this point, Gwen was already under Morgana’s control in some way, yet, she told her brother to save himself and cried for him when there was no one around to put on an act for. It’s safe to assume Gwen was genuinely aware of Elyan’s passing. So when was she lost for good? After the shock of his death passed? Was Gwen feeling so much pain she wanted to disappear? In the end, perhaps Gwen “chose” to let go of her last remaining thread of control.

It reminds me of TVD, when often a vampire chooses to “turn off” their “humanity switch” after they lose someone, and then need a huge emotional trigger to turn it back on. For example, when Elena’s brother died, she turned her emotions off, and only her best friend Matt nearly dying turned them back on. In Gwen’s case, her trigger was Arthur. 

Perhaps a small part of Gwen no longer wanted to live after losing her remaining (biological) family, especially since Elyan died rescuing her. At her lowest point, she felt completely alone and “turned” to Morgana who had conditioned Gwen to think of her as her savior. Real Gwen was too weak to fight Morgana, and, deep down, just wanted an escape, so her resolve finally broke and Morgana was in. 

Not even almost killing Arthur was enough to snap Gwen out of it though, maybe because he didn’t actually die. I said this before, but, imo (and I realize I’m trying to see logic where it may not exist), it was Gwen’s identity being found by Arthur that gave real Gwen an opening. Evil Gwen was afraid of Arthur. She was afraid of the power he had over her. When he started reminding her of their love for each other, Morgana’s hold on Gwen threatened to slip and real Gwen exploited that vulnerability. I kind of picture the real Gwen as trapped inside her own body, observing herself as an outsider. 

Gwen tried to fight Morgana but wasn’t strong enough after her brother died (Morgana’s nightly visits probably had something to do with that too), until Arthur reminded her of the promise she made. She promised to marry Arthur with all her heart - because marriage is indeed a promise to love, cherish, respect, etc. your partner in sickness and in health, blah blah, ‘till death do us part. Gwen still had someone to live for, someone who loved her, and who she promised to love for the rest of her life - her remaining family - so she couldn’t let Morgana take him away from her. Arthur gave Gwen the strength to fight back. He believed in her ability do escape Morgana because he believed in the strength of her love for him (a bit similar to when Arthur’s love for Gwen broke his enchantment in season 2). The fact that Morgana hadn’t been in touch with Gwen for a day, and that evil Gwen had been poisoned, probably helped as well. 

Unrelated, but Arthur only ever seems to get angry over Gwen. It was definitely hot when he was like “We walked around in a circle. We lost an entire day” , and slammed his sword on the ground in the Impenetrable Forest. Arthur looks very hot in season 5. I think it’s the hair. And Merlin beefed up a lot. Watching him in the early seasons, he looks so skinny. 

Anyway, there really is no one more important to Arthur than Gwen, WBK.

“Dammit!” Stefan exclaimed, throwing a vase at the wall. 

More tears streamed down your face in hot droplets as you saw Stefan unravel in front of you. 

“I’m so sorry, Stefan,” you cried, taking your sleeve and wiping the snot that was running down your nose. 

Stefan turned to you, tears shining in his eyes. He looked at you with guilt, walking over and pulling you into his arms. 

“It’s not your fault, sweetheart. It’s Kai’s,” Stefan apologised. 

You wrapped your arms around his middle, squeezing him so hard. You cried into his shirt, savouring how hugging him felt as you knew it would be one of the last times. 

“W-Why would he do this?” You sobbed. “Because he’s evil and hates us all. God I just… I just wish you didn’t fall victim to him. Why couldn’t Matt be the one?” Stefan asked. 

You let out a breathy laugh. “That’s not nice, Stef.”

“It’d be better than the love of my life being ripped away form me,” he chuckled sadly. 

You buried your face into his chest, taking a deep breath of his scent. 

“Aw, so sweet,” Kai taunted. 

Stefan pulled away from you immediately, standing in front of you for protection.

“Get out of here, Kai,” Stefan warned. “Or what? I’m not gonna undo the spell,” Kai grinned. 

“If you don’t get out of here, I’m going to kill you,” Stefan threatened, red enveloping his green irises. 

“Oh, I’m so scared. You know, I’m not the only one that’s a vampire, Stefan,” Kai smirked, fangs of his own coming out of his gums. 

“Well, I’m a stronger vampire than you Kai,” Stefan muttered, running towards Kai. 

“And I’m a heretic,” Kai said simply, putting up his hand and making Stefan fly across the room. 

“Stefan!” You shrieked, running over to him. Kai flung you to the other side of the room, a good 20 feet away form Stefan. You groaned as the back of your head hit the shelf of bookcases. 

Kai stalked over to you, using magic to pick you up and dangle you in the air. Stefan got up, recovering quickly from hitting the wall. 

“Don’t you dare touch her!” Stefan demanded. 

“So cute how you think you can stop me,” Kai grinned at Stefan. 

He used his other hand to hold Stefan back. You watched as Stefan struggled against Kai’s magic, but it was no use. Kai turned his head back to you, smiling at you maliciously. Your eyes grew wide as Kai made his vampire face, pulling you closer to him with his magic. You struggled, trying to break his spell, but you knew it was no use. This was how you were going to die. Being sucked dry by a sociopathic heretic. 

“Can’t wait to taste your blood,” Kai muttered. 

“No you don’t!” Damon exclaimed, taking a stake and plunging it into Kai’s heart. 

Kai gasped and you and Stefan were let go immediately. Before you could drop to the ground, Stefan sped over to you, catching you in his arms. You wrapped your arms around him in relief, watching Kai turn pale and veins appearing all over him. He fell back onto the floor, his lifeless eyes staring at the ceiling. You looked at Damon, a grateful smile on your face. 

“Thank you so much, Damon,” you said. 

“No problem. I wasn’t about to let my brother and my best friend get killed by some psycho. It’s bad enough you’re gonna be in a coma for the next 60 years,” Damon smiled at you. 

You laughed, getting down from Stefan’s arms. You hugged Damon tightly.

“I’m gonna miss you, D,” you said into Damon’s shoulder. 

“I’m gonna miss you, too, Y/n/n. But hey, I’m gonna be well and alive for when you wake up. And so is Stefan,” Damon reassured you. 

You pulled away and nodded, giving him a sad, small smile. 

“Hey, before you go, we have a surprise for you,” Damon said. 

You furrowed your brows, “What surprise?”

“You’ll see,” Stefan said. You turned to him, “Tell me.”

“Nope. C’mon, we don’t got a lot of time,” Damon said. 

You nodded and Stefan took your hand. You three walked out of the Salvatore house. You gasped in surprise and shock as you were met by all your friends. They were all holding flowers, candles all around them, looking at you with sad, but hopeful smiles.

“What’s all this?” You asked. 

“One last chance to say goodbye,” Stefan explained. 

“Did you plan this?” You looked to your boyfriend. 

“You bet,” he nodded. 

“Oh, I love this so much,” you sighed happily. 

“We’re going to miss you so much, Y/n,” Caroline said, her voice cracking at the thought of being without her best friend for 60 years. 

Tears welled up in your eyes as everyone else started crying. 

“I’m going to miss you guys so much, too,” you breathed out. 

They all hugged you tightly as you cried. You wrapped around your arms around them, trying to hug every single one of them. You pulled away, coming face to face with Matt, Jeremy, and Tyler.  

“Good luck out there, guys. I’m so honoured to have known you and grow up with you. Maybe we’ll meet aga-” you started, but you were interrupted. 

“Woah, woah woah, you’ll still see us when you wake up,” Tyler cut you off. 

“Yeah, right,” you scoffed. “No, really. Bonnie put a preservation spell on us,” Jeremy explained. 

Your eyes widened and you looked to Bonnie. “Really?!” Bonnie shrugged sheepishly. “It’s the least I could do. It’s my fault you're going into this coma.”

You shook your head and put your hands on her shoulders, looking into her eyes sternly. “Bonnie Bennett, don’t you dare blame yourself. This is all Kai’s fault. I don’t want you to feel bad about this for one moment, okay? Please promise me that.”

Tears rolled down Bonnie’s face and she nodded furiously, pulling you into one last hug. 

“Good,” you whispered, shutting your eyes tightly while you hugged her. 

“We’ll document every single day for you,” Elena promised. 

You pulled away from Bonnie, giving Elena a laugh. “You guys don’t have to do that.”

“Oh, please. If we didn’t, then the first thing you would do when you wake up is complain about how we didn’t document,” Damon remarked. 

You rolled your eyes, “Yeah, yeah.”

“We have one last surprise for you. Well… I do,” Bonnie said. 

You nodded and watched her as she held the rose in front of her, using her magic to hold it up in the air. You let out a choked laugh as she was doing the  spell she did when she first showed you she that was a witch six years ago. 

The petals detached from the stem. You looked up as you watched them swirl around you. Bonnie then set them gently on the top of your head, putting the petals together and making them into a flower crown. 

“Now you’ll always have something to remember me by after I die,” Bonnie smiled. 

You laughed, “Oh, Bon, thank you so much. Thank you all. I-I can’t thank you enough.”

“Well, you’re our friend, Y/n. We love you,” Caroline said. 

Your lips came down into a pout as you knew it was time to say goodbye for the last time. 

“All right, let’s let the love birds have their final last moments,” Damon said. 

“What?” You cocked up a brow.

“Well, we know how much you love Stefan. We thought it would be nice if you and him were able to the spend the last moments of your life together,” Elena explained. 

“Oh, you guys,” you cried. 

“You love us, we know. Go and have fun with Stefan. We’ll see you really soon, okay?” Matt assured. 

You nodded, giving them all a watery smile. You watched with a shattered heart as they all walked away, disappearing into the night. Stefan appeared in front of you, holding his hand out. 

“May I have this last dance, m’lady?” Stefan asked. 

You giggled and nodded, slipping your hand into his. “Why, of course, kind sir.” 

Stefan smiled as he wrapped his arms around your waist, pulling you close to him. Music then started playing. It was your and Stefan’s song, “City of Angles” by The Miracles. You smiled genuinely at the music, swaying in the entry way of Stefan’s house. You tried to think of anything else but you going into a coma. You tried to think of this moment as a date idea Stefan thought up. You tried to think of this moment as the moment before Stefan would propose to you, but nothing worked. Your smile faltered as your mind thought deeply into the idea of you being away from Stefan and your friends for 60 years. 

Stefan noticed your brows furrow as you tried not to cry. He smiled sweetly, unwrapping one arm from your waist and moving his hand up to your cheek, cupping your jaw. His thumb wiped away the tears that were rolling down your cheeks.  

“It’s going to be all okay,” Stefan assured you. 

“No, it’s not,” you put your head down. 

“Look at me, Y/n,” Stefan said softly. He waited patiently as you lifted your head up slowly. You looked into his eyes with fear and sadness. His face mirrored your emotions, but he decided to say uplifting words. 

“60 years is nothing. You’re going to be asleep and I… I’m going to be desiccated. It’ll be like accidentally passing out because your math homework is so boring, and waking up five minutes later only for it to be the next day.” You smiled at his comparison. You shook your head, though, knowing that it wasn’t going to be the same. 

“Bonnie’s going to be dead, Stefan. Who knows, maybe Elena, Damon, and Caroline will be killed. O-Or what if Bonnie dies early and her preservation spell wears off of Tyler, Matt, and Jeremy and they’ll all be old when I come back? What if… What i-if you d-die?” Your voice broke at the thought of you waking up to absolutely no one.

Stefan put his other hand on the side of your face, bringing your face up to look him in the eyes. You stared at him, breathing heavily from getting yourself worked up. 

“I’m not going to die. Neither are Elena, Caroline, and Damon. Tyler, Jeremy, Matt will be just fine. We’ll make sure Bonnie lives her life to the fullest, too. We’ll make sure she doesn’t blame herself for this, because you’re right, it isn’t her fault,” Stefan promised. 

You nodded, “Promise me something else.”

“What is it?” Stefan nodded eagerly. “Don’t desiccate,” you demanded. 

“I’m not living 60 years in pain and sadness. I want to wake up when you wake up,” he argued. 

You shook your head, licking your chapped lips. “No, you are going to live. You’re going to document all your days for me. Wether it’s in a journal or on a video camera. You’re going to wake up everyday, go and hang out with our friends, travel around the world, maybe find a-a new love,” you shrugged, listing all the possibilities. 

“I’m not going to fall in love with anyone else,” he shook his head.

You chuckled, “I…I know. But please, just promise you won’t desiccate. For me?”

Stefan sighed and nodded. “All right. I’ll stay alive.”

You smiled happily, pulling him closer. Stefan’s hands moved back down to your waist as you put your head on his shoulder. You two swayed hips as another song played. You let out a sob as you knew it would be midnight soon. 

“I don’t want to leave you,” you said hoarsely.

Stefan exhaled sadly, holding you tighter. “I know, baby. I don’t want you to leave either, but we have no choice.”

You lifted your head up, pressing a slow, painful, and passionate kiss to Stefan’s lips. You furrowed your brows as you kissed him hard, savouring every last bit of the feeling of his lips on yours, his scent, how his arms held you close to him, how in love you were with him. Your fingers entangled themselves into his hair as Stefan’s hands held the small of your back. 

Stefan pulled you back, tears rolling down his face. “I love you.”

“I love you,” you nodded. Tears cascaded down your fast in clumps, running down your chin and down to your neck. Mucus gathered at the bottom of your nose, your brows knitted together as you let out quiet, strangled sobs. 

“You look beautiful. You know that?” Stefan grinned. 

You sniffled, “No, I don’t.”

“No, you. You’re the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. You’re the most beautiful girl I will ever see.”

“Oh, Stef. You’re making it so hard to go,” your bottom lip pouted out and started to quiver. 

“Just trying to milk the last seconds that we have together,” he chuckled sadly. 

You gave him one last smile, pressing your lips to his one last time. You kissed him tenderly, gripping the base of his neck. Your tears mixed with his as your cheeks rubbed together gently. Stefan’s hands rubbed your back soothingly. He  pulled away from the kiss, setting his forehead against yours. 

“I’ll see you again, sweetheart.”

On the rating of 10, how do you rate the writing of each legacies characters, why and who deserves better? What aspects should be improved?

I updated some of the opinion for clarity and also added Finch because I forgot her originally

I'll just make a list and go down it and I'm sorry in advance I love responding but I'm horrible at grammar/punctuation and also I might tend to ramble but I'll try to be as concise as possible. It should also be noted anything I state that might possibly relate to ships is a personal opinion and I have nothing against any ships/characters gay or straight/Good or Evil. However would it be said that I definitely mean more towards the gay/Badass with a Golden heart side of shipping with any fandom.

Hope Mikaelson- As of now I would rate her writing at about a 6. And I only say that because as we know a majority of her characters personality slightly has always but this season especially related to her relationship with Landon. And I wish we would see the Badass Tribrid Hope we've been promised since season 1 I mean sure there are no lack of examples of her bravery and martyrdom. But I am tired of her always feeling down on herself and like she's a cosmic mistake when it has literally been proven by Lizzie's wish in season 1 that their life would be infinitely shittier without her. What they can do to improve it is have her focus on friendship and herself instead of trying to always focus on Landon. She deserves more than just to be a boy obsessed character I mean she's the daughter of Klaus F****** Mikaelson for Pete sakes she literally descends from the most powerful supernatural family ever to exist and is rightfully the most powerful being on the f****** planet.

Note: I found Handon's relationship cutesy in season 1 but now not so much especially since they use him dying as a plot line way too often it just doesn't have the same effect that used to***

Josie Saltzman-As of now I would rate her writing at about an 8. I like how her character at least for a while had her own storyline going off the mystic falls High School plotline and how she lived with delena because it was a good call back for us TVD fans but I think it could have definitely lasted longer than a few episodes. We all know it was just used as a lot device to introduce Ethan as a series regular and as an introduction for her to Finch's character. But overall I feel throughout the seasons she has experienced at least some personal growth as exhibited even in 3x15 where she admitted she has to stop saying sorry especially to Lizzie for not always jumping to do what she needs / she wants all the time. Whereas before Android AU version aside because she literally had to do what she was programmed to do. She has an exhibited that she's starting to do what she needs to do for Josie before others most of the time or she's trying to. And as far as her relationship to Finch well I don't see them being endgame I have no problem with them and I do see Finch being one of her major loves of the series that teaches her whatever lesson she needs that leads her to whoever her endgame love is. With her relationships I will always miss Posie and I wish they could get Lulu back at least just for one episode. Also I feel these last two episodes of the girls being a trio they have a really Been serving Hosie with the looks but also I feel like in general Josie and Hope have been really in f****** tune. In conclusion I just don't know because Kaylee's acting skills and just turning general I would rate a billion she could choke me and I would literally thank her.

Lizzie Saltzman-as of now I would rate her at about a 7. I feel as if she has had great personal growth over the series and hell even this season. I also like hell despite everything in her life especially her eternal struggle with her mental illness she is always trying to do better and not just for herself but mainly for others and some people would say that's not good but I like it because it truly shows what she stated in 1x03 during the gargoyle incident that she never wants to be the bad or evil one. She has all this s*** thrown at her being called broken, being seen as the lesser than sister, and not to mention the absentee parents. Yet through all this she manages to only get stronger especially once she builds a genuine friendship with hope. However what I will say is that I don't like the regression of her friendship with Hope in correlation to her progress of especially her mental illness. And what I mean by that is it's almost been shown that once she had even the seeds of a true friendship with Hope that Hope would never give up on her hell not but like even an episode or two into their newly formed friendship in S1 Hope went to Josie when she Lizzie was on the verge of a bad episode and "sweet" Josie was basically like fuck her she needs to fall on her ass for once and Hope ass was appalled y'all she was like Lizzie can't control her brain chemistry and was so defensive/protective it's like once they got over that hurdle that mainly Josie gave them everything clicked into place and they were almost instant bff's. So for them to do so good in season 2 and then it seems like it showed especially in these last several episodes black magic incident to bring Landon back aside that Lizzie's old issues of resentment and jealousy towards hope are starting to come back and I don't like that because the more Lizzie had A Friend in Hope it seems like the better she got at coping and doing better mentally.(sorry if this has been a confusing several sentences). And no by that I do not mean that Lizzie is mental progress has solely relied on Hope but I do think it has helped significantly for her to have a true friend. Also let it be noted now out of every ship though I should Hosie too HIZZIE is my #1 ship on Legacies two phenomenally beautiful woman also the enemies to friends to lovers trope *chef's kiss*which might be plausible as I always wondered what they meant in the Hosie crush confession scene of season 1 when Josie said that she always went after everybody josie liked hinting that Lizzie might be at least bisexual or maybe that was just what Josie perceived at like 12/13 years old. Also on the note of relationships Mizzie was a cute concept at the beginning but I do love the fact that MG is finally finding himself and standing up for himself but he did also do it and I kind of a******-ish way towards Lizzie. And that's all I can say for her. Actually I could probably write a novel on this women and also Hizzie but I won't lol.

Alaric Saltzman- As of now I would give him a rating of like a 4 . In the last several episodes I think he's been trying to make progress at being a better person but that's about all I can say I'm not an anti. But he definitely will not be winning the father of the year award anytime soon and like many people have pointed out he was a great guardian to Elena and Jeremy so he has the potential in parenting he obviously just ain't using it or lost it over the decades. I don't hate him but I do believe they're doing a discredit towards the better man he was in The vampire Diaries especially at the beginning.

Landon Kirby-His writing is like a 3. He is just there to be arm candy for hope. Until the last couple episodes where he became this for once realistic not optimistic hardened badass he literally brought nothing to The season other than someone for Hope to obsess over. And to be someone that they repeatedly kill for shock value even though it literally shocks no one anymore. I don't hate his character but he doesn't tickle My Fancy as much anymore. His character has a lot of potentialy especially if they ever bring back in his Phoenix side and truly explore it beyond his almost endless ability to revive and being a "Bird Boy" lol. I mean truthfully they're doing him a disservice Aria is a phenomenal actor who could take his character places if they just let him be more than a basic ass plot device. Also can we talk about how gorgeous of a man Aria is especially in these last few episodes looking love it and fine as f***.

As it has become apparent to me I ramble too much and I just don't have the capacity as it is now almost 1:00 in the morning my time to do anymore characters in depth so I will be doing a simple excerpt for the rest now that I have done the main 5 people.

Kaleb Hawkins- His writing is a 8. I do like how he's coming to himself over the years and is a a right hand man to Alaric now instead of being just a uncontrollable vampire(the only hate on this part not towards Kaleb but Alaric is that it shows he will virtually mentor/uplift almost any teen that ain't his own daughters). Though in my opinion he always kind of had a point on some things especially about the hypocrisy of Alaric in season 1 especially on the bmood drinking thing. Him and Mg's relationship is awesome I'm glad they made up in the last episode and our brothers again. Also I was rooting for him and Cleo I think they would be a cute little couple. Also I need his backstory immediately especially after saying to Cleo the last time he was vulnerable he died I need to know how he turned.

Milton Greasley(MG)- His writing is a 9 the season. I say that because he is really came into his own and stopped being the punching bag. Though I think the idea or used to think at least that him and Lizzie would be cute together I am proud of him for standing up to Lizzie finally even though I liked him always being there for her I was tired of him being a fallback for her when it didn't work with whoever however I do think he could have went about the rejection a little bit gentler especially with how he knows of Lizzie's emotional problems. And don't even get me started on Alyssa that was just a disaster that should have never even been brought to fruition her cheating with Jed was probably the best thing that could have happened. I liked his little side adventure with Ethan though I do think they could have wrote it a little better I was sad when he had to compel the memories away like they still could have been friends he just couldn't have known about the supernatural stuff also I'm still not convinced Ethan won't become supernatural later in the series if he stays on. And that's all I have to say on that one love my baby.

Jed Tien-His writing I can't really give a writing I don't think it's horrible but I do think overall they could give him a better plot line as a series regular other than just being used for the comical relief eye candy/mentioning how he's the alpha. Though it was funny the whole pool tournament to decide who was alpha will Finch was just exactly that so bad it was laughable. However I do respect the fact that he even admitted to her that he knew she threw the game and that he is a genuine man of his word and has become better over the series from like this dumb jock stereotype to this genuine dude the Alyssa incident aside. He is a cinnamon roll and I will protect him at all cost.

Ethan- Again as he just became a series regular this season and barely showed up in his premiere season. I will not be rating him in any traditional sense. His writing is not totally horrible I liked his adventures with mg they could have been written better and they still could have let him be MG's friend without supernatural knowledge instead of compelling the friendship completely away. And I am still not convinced he will not become supernatural in some way depending on how long he stays in the series truthfully it's actually almost inevitable unless they go the whole route of making him the Matt/Token Human of the show which I really hope they don't I mean he can stay human but don't make him a supernatural hater.

Cleo-her writing is 10. I say that because she has been a phenomenal character and I've never seen the actress before but she is obviously phenomenal as well. I like her whole connection to Malivore and how it's a legitimate one that seems to be interwoven with the story that's already been presented and add something new. I also like how she tried and really wanted to genuinely be friends with all the characters especially hope but at the same time she was also very realistic and new probably and truthfully the only way for Malivore to be defeated was for Hope to Go full Tribrid and she wasn't above actually trying to murder hope to save herself and just get rid of Malivore which I can't blame her.

Malivore-after the end of season 3 / the first couple episodes of season 4 which were supposed to be the original ending to season 3 I better never hear the name again I am so tired of it this should have ended like at least a season ago at this point it's dragging on. This was supposed to be a monster of the week type of series which is okay me personally I have always appreciated having one big bad of the season and then a couple of minor baddies that get their characters arcs and take a few episodes to defeat or something as like a B or C plot. Point being is that this character and plot line has gotten stiff as can be. To be honest I think half of us aren't even here for plot line anymore we just want to see which of our ships get together.

Finch-I am loving her character and I do think she's cute with Josie. Also I stan anyone who is a sarcastic b**** Queen. I think it's nice how her will backstory was different than the traditional one but also I hated how sad it was like she literally didn't even know what she was doing. Though I will say calling Lizzie the "evil" twin that she can fight me because you don't talk about my blonde cinnamon roll like that is based on one impression from something that was only meant and done out of a good place and Lizzie's heart trying to find out her backstory. But other than that I have no real qualms with this character and it is too early to have a real in-depth analysis/opinion of her.

Notes: This is kind of a “What if?” with my Keeping Secrets character, but it is not cannon to that story. I’m just really digging Klaus right now and I’m trying to get it all out so that it doesn’t end up in Keeping secrets. Enjoy.

“I’ve always wondered what this place looked like on the inside.” Katie said as she looked around the old mansion. “Now I know it’s a total dump.”

“It won’t be a dump for long.” Klaus told her with a look around. “Soon it will be completely renovated and a room is already set aside for you and Elijah.” Katie gave him a surprised look. “What?”

“Nothing.” She told him with a shake of her head as she headed further into the entrance. “You’re just so…”

“Handsome, charming, sophisticated?” he asked with a smile.

“Confusing.” Katie answered. “You’re so ruthless and cut throat with everyone else, but you’ve never done anything to directly hurt me. You’re actually too nice to me which only makes me wonder why?” she said as she placed her hand on the rail of the double set of stairs that started on each side of the room and curved up to the second floor landing. “You could have easily killed me instead of Jenna. Why didn’t you?”

“I’ve pissed my brother off a lot over the years… I’ve hurt him more than once, all on purpose, but the worst was when I killed you.” he said as Katie moved to sit on the stairs. “He avoided me and the rest of our siblings for years.” He sat down beside her and leaned back against to wall. “He wasn’t himself.” Katie looked down at her hands, picking at her cuticles. “I will not make the same mistake again.”

She bit her lips closed and nodded. “Do you have any booze in this dump?” she asked.

“You keep calling my new home a dump and I might just kick you out of it.” he told her as he stood up and jerked his head for her to follow him.

“Well, when it’s no longer a dump I’ll stop calling it one.” She told him playfully and he rolled his eyes. He led her to the kitchen and tossed her a bottle of bourbon. She took a drink straight from the bottle and sighed from the taste. “So, you’re hoping that if you deliver me to Elijah safe and sound he’ll forgive you for killing me and your mother?” she asked and his face turned hard. “Hey, I killed my own grandfather and I know nothing about what kind of mother Ester was. I’m not judging you.”

“That is what I’m hoping for, yes.” He told her as he took the bottle from her hand and took a drink.

“And if the woman he gets isn’t the one he remembers because she has flipped the switch on her humanity?” she asked as she took the bottle back.

“You haven’t flipped the switch, Love, you’re just playing with the dimmer.” He told her as he watched the air bubbles float up the bottle as she took a large drink.

“What?” she asked as she swiped the back of her hand across her slick lips.

“I don’t know how you’re doing it because mostly only older vampires have the ability but you are. When you start feeling something you don’t want to feel instead of flipping the switch completely you simply slide the dimmer on your emotions.” He explained then took the bottle from her. She watched him take a drink, her eyes looking at his wet lips as she thought about how attractive he is. “You know it’s rude to stare right?” he asked.

She jerked her eyes up to his feeling a blush warm her cheeks. “Sorry.” She laughed and looked away from him. “How much have I drank?” she asked with as she took the bottle from his hand and looked to see that only a fourth was missing and both of them had been drinking.

“Not nearly enough to use it as an excuse for thinking about kissing me, Love.” He told her with a smirk and she took another drink.

“I wasn’t-” she cut herself off when he gave her a pursed lipped smile and raised his brows. “Fine I was, but,” she pointed her finger at him then hopped up onto the dusty bar behind her, “in my defense you have really nice lips.” She took another drink and wiped her lips again.

He walked over and took the bottle from her, “Just because I’m curious,”

“Uh, oh.” Katie chipped in making him smile as he took a drink.

“What else do you find attractive about me?” he asked as he passed her the bottle back.

“You’re really going to fish for compliments?” she asked then looked down when he placed his hand on her upper thigh. “You know you can compel those out of someone else, right?”

“It mean’s more coming from you.” he told her with a smirk. “Since I can’t compel you.”

“Nice try.” She took a drink from the bottle then sat it on the bar beside her and tried to slid off of the bar, but he stepped between her knees, stopping her. “Klaus.” Her voice held a tone of warning that made him smirk.

“Katie.” He mimicked her tone as he slid his hands up her thighs, over her hips and under her flowy spaghetti strap tank top to hold her waist.

“Klaus, I can’t.” she told him trying to ignore how good his attractive hands felt on her skin. “The only reason I’m working with you is to get Elijah back.”

“That may be true, but you are with me at the moment because you’re lonely.” He argued and she couldn’t argue back because he was right. She had lost her friends in her pursuit of Elijah, Damon and Elena had practically stabbed her in the back... She didn’t feel like anyone wanted her. “We’re one and the same, you and I.” he told her.

She sighed and let her head fall forward. After a few calming breaths she grabbed his hands and pushed them down off of her sides and onto the counter where she held them. “I. can’t.” he could tell she was talking more to herself than him.

“But you want to.” He argued with a whisper.

“Of course I want to, but that’s not the point. I may be a vampire and I may have gone off the rails by teaming up with you, but I still have morals. I’ve cheated before and the guilt nearly killed me. I’m not going to cheat on Elijah.” She argued still holding his hands down on the counter to keep them from distracting her.

“In order for you to cheat on someone they have to know that you are together. The last Elijah heard you were dating Damon. So, the way I see it, until he wakes up you are free to do whatever you wish.”

She took her hands off of his. “You…are…really good at finding ways to get what you want.” She said as she picked up his right hand, holding his wrist in both of her smaller hands. “You wanted to know what else I find attractive about you?” she asked then kissed his palm. “I’ve never been turned on by someone’s hands before.” She looked into his eyes as she kissed each of his fingertips. When she got to his thumb she sucked it into her mouth.

He smirked at her as he slowly slid it out then grabbed the back of her head and pulled her into him for a rough kiss. At the same time he wrapped his arm around her and slid her butt across the bar so that her body was flush against his. With a quiet moan she wrapped her arms and legs around him. His tongue slid across her bottom lip causing a sigh to leave her lips as she parted them and let him in. He kissed her deeply as he grabbed her butt and picked her up then whooshed them to his room.

Instead of putting her on the bed like she thought he would he shut the door and pressed her against it. His heavy breaths were close to her ear as he cupped one side of her neck in his hand while his lips kissed and nibbled hungrily at the other side.

Desperate to see all of him she grabbed the hem of the soft, black, long sleeved shirt and pushed it up his body. He tore himself away from her neck with a growl and pulled the shirt over his head. She was going to take her tank top off, but before she could he grabbed the neckline, ripped it open and pushed it down her arms. As her eyes took in his toned chest and stomach his drank in her flat stomach and D breasts that were pushed up by a dark purple embroidered bra.

When their eyes eventually found the others they started kissing again. An easel sat next to the door and a paint pallet was on a small table next to it. Feeling devious she dipped three of her fingers into a glob of bright red paint and slipped them down his cheek as they kissed. He stopped kissing her and slowly pulled back then opened his eyes and glared at the laugh she was holding in. She could tell he wanted to smile, but was trying to act mad. So she dipped a clean finger in the dot of green paint and booped him on the end of his nose with it making him start laughing. She yelped when he wiped his nose on her cheek. Four dots of paint were smeared on his chest as she laughed and tried to push him back. He stopped and stepped back with a smile on his face. “Just remember you started this, Love.” He walked across the room and Katie checked out his ass as he did, but then she realized just how many canvases were laid out around the room.

“What are you doing?” Katie asked as her eyes moved back to him where he was spreading out a thick white sheet on the floor.

“Laying out our canvas.” He told her then put heavy crates on each corner to hold it in place. “You might want to tie your hair up.” The seductive look in his eyes as he walked over to her made her take the ponytail holder that was holding up half of her hair out and tie it back up into a messy bun. “Now,” he motioned to the various bottles of paint that were scattered around the room then picked up a bottle of moss green paint, “pick a color to represent me.”

“Okay.” She looked around the room. “I would pick red, but red and green is way to Christmas themed for my taste.” She found a bottle of navy blue paint and picked it up. “Now what?” he just smirked at her and started drizzling the green paint over the sheet. When he thought there was enough he stepped back and motioned for her to go. So she started at the top of the sheet and made swirls in the air with the paint bottle as she squeezed the blue paint over the canvas.

She watched him put small dots of paint on three of his fingers then placed them on her cheekbone and slid them down her face and over the hollow of her neck and between her breasts where he stopped before he got paint on her bra. Pure lust took over both of them and he grabbed her waist and jerked her into him going straight for her neck. In a flash they were both nude and she was once again pinned against the wall, her hands exploring his back as their tongues fought for control.

She yelped and laughed when he picked her up and whooshed them over to the paint droplet covered canvas and laid her back. The paint was cold and slick against her back as she looked up at him hovering over her. With a smile she pressed her hands into the paint at her sides then grabbed his sides and pulled him down to her. His large hands smeared the paint as he leaned down and started kissing her chest.

A breathy moan left her lips when his closed around the peak of her breast and sucked. “Klaus.” She whispered as she grabbed his chin and pulled him up to her lips before she started kissing his neck. A grunt left his lips and the sound was enough to drive her crazy. Losing control, blood rushed to her eyes and her fangs made an appearance. He pulled back and looked at her face. A smirk appeared on his lips at the sight. She didn’t want to bite him, even though she was sure he would taste amazing. So she took a deep breath and pushed the urge back. As soon as the blood cleared from her eyes he kissed her.

Needing to pleasure him she rolled them over and started kissing down his chest. She followed the contours of his muscles down to where she teased him by licking up his length. Another groan left his parted lips as she took him fully into her mouth and lightly sucked.

She was just starting to have fun when she felt him grab her hair and pull her from her work that had been getting all kinds of pleasured grunts and growls from him. She watched him sit up and pull her into his lap where she sank down onto him. Both of them sighed from the intense sensation. She wrapped her legs around him and let him set the pace. She let her head fall back and her back arched from the pure bliss she was feeling. Klaus slipped his hand from her neck down her chest between her breasts and to her stomach before he grabbed her hip. Her eyes were completely clouded with lust and desire when she picked her head up and looked at him to see he was just as lost in her as she was him.

She slid her hands around his shoulders as he rocked her hips against him. Eventually he laid her back on the canvas again and took full control. Her hands smeared paint over his back as he kissed her deeply then moved to her paint smeared neck. Getting close to the edge she bit his shoulder and moaned. He stopped his work on her neck and looked into her eyes. "Klaus, I'm-" he cut her off with a kiss and picked up the pace making them both fall over the edge of pleasure and into an ocean of ecstasy.

He stayed where he was, kissing her lips while she caressed his back until the waves calmed. He stood up and held his hand out to her. So she grabbed it and let him pull her up off the white sheet. She smiled at the smears of blue and green paint that covered his body.

He laughed and turned her around making her look at the art their bodies at created. "I like it." She said with a wrinkled nose smile.

"You sound surprised." He wrapped his arms around her waist and rested his chin on her shoulder.

"I am." She answered still looking at the smears and dots of paint. "I just knew there would be an obvious butt print somewhere in there, but the only thing that’s easy to see is our handprints." She turned in his arms to look at his face. With a smile he slid his hands up her still paint slicked sides.

"Well I'm glad you like it, because it's yours." He told her with a look at it. "Unless you would like me to hang it in your and Elijah's room."

"You wouldn't." Katie challenged.

"Oh I would." He answered with a cheeky smile. "He would never even know how it was made."

"That's just straight up evil." She said with a head shake. "I think it would look better hanging over the fireplace in my house."

"Do whatever you wish with it." He used the paint still on his hand to draw a swirl on her chest.

"Please tell me there's a working shower in this place." She looked down at the both of them.

“It may be a dump, but there is working electricity and water.” he told her as he jerked his head for her to follow him.

I was just catching up with your blog, and I saw your klonnie post. It just got me thinking about how literally anyone in the narrative would have been more logical to pair Klaus up with than Caroline. I’ve read all your posts regarding why Klaroline does not make sense. 100% agree. I feel like Caroline is just who they went with because committing to a real Klaus love story would have taken way more time than the show had, and Caroline was the one who had the least commitments elsewhere in the narrative. I mean, there are plenty of plot heavy episodes where Caroline just disappears for no reason, and it’s obvious that the writers just didn’t have anywhere to logically put her. I honestly believed during my first watch through that Klaroline was just Klaus trying to put Tyler in his place. He never interacted with her before the episode where Tyler challenges his authority and refuses to bite Caroline, and then after that episode, he was being ooc and fake charming with her. I just thought Klaus was trying to get her to sleep with him so he could show Tyler that he was the one in charge and could take anything he had. Color me surprised when that was never the case.

Anyway, this all got me thinking about what individual arcs Caroline got, and I can’t really think of one after her becoming a vampire and getting tortured by her dad. After that, the show kind of played “pass the Caroline.” She would get passed around during episodes where she was either tagging along with Stefan, Tyler, or Klaus. Obviously it’s okay for your characters to be in scenes with each other, but the problem is you could take Caroline out of the season 4 sire-bound breaking storyline or the delena ft. sad Stefan storyline and nothing would really change. She is really on par with Jeremy and Matt in which she could just leave for a while and make a reappearance later like nothing happened; however, unlike Jeremy and Matt, she isn’t treated this way in the narrative. Caroline is made out to be more important than she is. I didn’t realize how long this ask would be, but if you could change the story structure of TVD to fix this, how would you do it? Would you have written Caroline to have more individual storylines or would you have decreased her role? Maybe it’s just me and you would keep her the same. Idk. Either way, I’m very interested in your opinion. Especially because Caroline is the more utilized and loved character throughout this fandom and fanfiction, and I don’t know why.

sorry it’s taken me a few days to reply, I’ve been mulling this over and it’s been kind of a long week so I’ve had to gather the bandwidth to answer 

I agree with your analysis about why the show chose Caroline as Klaus’s love interest... I’ve always said that it was just so painfully obvious that they wanted to give Klaus a love interest from amongst the heroines (which: rude, he already had a love interest, it was Stefan) because he was interesting and hot. And I always assumed they picked Caroline because 1) Elena already had too many love interests even though she and Klaus had history and wicked chemistry so this still to me remains the obvious choice 2) Bonnie would have actually had moral problems with Klaus (but would still have been a great choice because then we could explore those morality issues with Klaus) and 3) they wanted to do another “bad boy” romance without actually digging into the fact that Klaus had crossed lines for us as an audience that were SUPER hard to come back from, namely: MURDERING MAIN CAST MEMBER JENNA. (I would argue that this is different for us as an audience than Vicki’s death because Vicki died at the beginning of the show; our emotional investment in Jenna was significantly higher after 2 full seasons with her.) So, Caroline becomes the path of least resistance because Klaus has no serious, personal history with her, and she’s not as prone toward actually making moral judgment calls as Bonnie is-- for example, she’s shown to be significantly more flexible about murder and mayhem than Bonnie is.

I’ve never thought about the fact that it was partially just that the writers didn’t have any great ideas for Caroline’s personal storyline though, and that really brings up 2 huge questions: 1) DID they assign her the Klaus romance because they didn’t know what else to do with her? and 2) did that romance storyline actually deprive her of other (better) storylines?

This got me thinking about Caroline’s storylines in a broader sense, and her place within the narrative structure. I think of TVD as having 3 types of main characters:

A-level characters-- Elena, Stefan, and Damon are the only A-levels, as they appear in every single episode and the plot falls apart without them

B-level characters-- Bonnie, Caroline, and then later Klaus would all fit in here-- characters that are in most episodes, and have their own independent side plots that are ongoing, sometimes for long periods of time -- we know they’re B-level and not A-level because sometimes they disappear for a few episodes-- in other words, they’re not essential every episode like the A-levels

C-level characters-- the rest of the main cast-- Tyler, Matt, Jeremy, Jenna, Katherine, Rebekah, etc-- these characters sometimes have ongoing plotlines (the werewolf plot, the Hunter plot, the serial killer plot, etc) but they’re literally dispensable to the overall plot-- the writers feel comfortable having them come and go as necessary, and we often experience them through the perceptions of the higher-leveled characters--they tend to actually be the object of higher level plots as well-- Damon kills Jeremy to move his plot along with Elena; Matt scheming against Caroline’s vampirism is actually part of Caro’s plot; Katherine is mostly a  narrative tool to use with the main 3; Jenna’s death isn’t even about her at the end of the day from a narrative perspective but about Elena, etc.

So when thinking of the basic structure in this sense, that issue you brought up where Caroline doesn’t have enough of her own storylines really comes to light. Part of that I think is that functionally, she has less to offer-- Bonnie is a great counter point, because she often has her own storylines, and she serves a super strong narrative purpose of 1) witch and 2) the moral center on the show-- like, usually the only one who doesn’t forget what’s right and what’s wrong from a basic human perspective. Klaus also has his function as villain, though he gets derailed by the show not killing him off when it was time. 

Caroline meanwhile... the show probably took her as far as they could with her being human, and turning her into a vampire in season 2 was incredibly strong and compelling storytelling. It brought Caroline into the main fold of schemers, it gave her agency, and it put all of her problems with her family and friends and self-esteem under a microscope lens. Season 2 is Caroline’s strongest season because it offers her the most development and gives her both a functional role as baby vampire-- working for Katherine, working with the gang, trying to keep the big secret from her mother-- as well as a satisfying emotional arc. The issue is that she just doesn’t have a ton of places to go as a character once the issues with her parents are resolved midway through season 3 and a lot of her self-esteem issues had actually been tackled... The only other storyline I can think of that was HERS was her mother’s death, but I never finished that arc and never got to no humanity!Caroline anyway, so I don’t have much to say on that topic. I will say that the show REALLY drove Caroline’s storyline into the dirt when they turned Elena into a vampire-- having two baby vamps on the show was WAY too many. We’d already gone through this with Care, but also, Elena is an A-level character-- anything she goes through necessarily usurps the power from any similar story the writers could have told about Caroline. 

So. The Klauroline romance. (Apparently I’ve been mispelling this ship for a decade but honestly you can’t expect me to stop now.) I think they gave Caroline to Klaus (rather than giving Klaus to Caroline) as a love interest for the reasons stated above, but it really did limit her character; I’ve gone over my problems with it ad nauseam here on this blog. The whole thing just spun Caroline around in circles forever-- I remember dreading that this ship would be canon but the show just kept spinning the Klaus/Caroline/Tyler wheels for two seasons without ever really progressing anything or changing anything, just always always always spinning in place, with Tyler disappearing to make room for the other ship but the writers also not actually committing to anything... It really does get in the way of Caroline’s character development. 

So, how to fix? 

Well, first off, I think Caroline (and Bonnie, and Klaus, and everyone else) should stay in their lanes as B or C level characters-- the show didn’t have enough stories to give every single one of them main character status, and that’s okay. 

But if Caroline is a B-level character, she still needs her own stories and subplots interwoven throughout the show. 

The obvious thing that comes to mind is something I’ve said many times--  Fix Klauroline so that it actually makes sense and doesn’t break character-- give them a subplot where they have to work together and learn to rely on each other or see each other differently than how they expect-- literally TVD is amazing with tight, action packed episodes-- it would have taken ONE episode to establish this, and then have the relationship progress as a subplot-- not as Caroline’s main plot-- give her other things to work on with the team and let the Klaus thing develop alongside it. 

Other things: the issues with her parents probably could have been extended to be season 3, honestly, with her facing her vampirism more in season 2-- or she could have gone off the deep end earlier, or she could have wound up in trouble with the council, or she could have taken a more active role in trying to kill Klaus other than just “bait” which would have been great because then she would have had to face her feelings about it directly, or she could have been the one to investigate the vampire lab at Whitmore and maybe end up briefly imprisoned or whatever-- I personally think Elena should have only been a vampire for one season, which would have made Elena actually face her moral crisis, but also opened up the space in the show for Caroline to get the young vampire storylines the way that Bonnie gets the witch storylines. 

The show gets into this weird habit at some point of forgetting that it’s really about the main three and not supposed to be a HUGE equal ensemble show-- if you look back at the promotional materials, it was originally always the three of the main triangle, but by seasons 5 & 6 there’re these photos with like all dozen cast members... equalizing things didn’t actually help Caroline’s or Bonnie’s or anyone else’s storylines because it stripped down the time we spent with the main story and it meant adding a lot of frustrating swimming in circles for the others (how many times was Bonnie dead? I can’t keep track anymore) 

Sorry this is so rambly, I hope it made sense! I have a lot of feelings about Caroline-- I really loved her and the handling of her storylines from season 3 on has never sat well with me.

(As for why Caroline is the fan favorite, I do have a theory: she actually tells us what she’s thinking and feeling, so it’s easier to connect with her. Elena meanwhile rarely ever explicitly states her emotions, instead tending to brood and force us to work through what her silences mean, and Bonnie tends to bottle until she explodes--which is still easier to empathize with than Elena, because at least Bonnie eventually tells us. Meanwhile, Caroline gets upset, or she gets drunk, or she has long conversations where she spills her heart out to Stefan or Elena or Bonnie or anyone... so it’s easy to jump on board with her. That’s my theory at least.)

Premise:

The Mikaelsons helped the Mystic Falls Scoobies fight a clan of ancient werewolves called the Hundings. Klaus and Caroline paid the ultimate price, as well as Damon. But as it is the case in the magical world of the Mystic Falls vampires, death is not the end.

There is also a new adventure looming for the Mystic Falls Scoobies and their now friends, the Original vampires, as everything is somehow always conected to them. And so, they are Hellbound...

In Mystic Falls

Elijah finished his account of the battle against the Hundings for Sophie's Grimoire. Then he opened his diary. He had been doing some writing for days. This entry was of a more personal nature.

                ‘It is assumed that happiness is hard to capture. And how can one feel happy having lost so many dear people close to one's heart. Having existed now for more than a millenia, I can say with certainty that love is the driving force for all. The scars of the soul are mended with it, making it possible to look to another day, and I am witness to it. We are ruled by our fears and disbelief and it clouds our minds. Love is not a weakness but the ultimative strength.What would we be without love. I have allowed myself to believe in it. I have searched long enough for it. And it has been bestowed on me when I have least expected it. I have read a long time ago that one would know one's true love by the look in his or her eyes as they are the windows to one's soul. Maybe she is the one I was looking for all my life.'

He closed the diary as Elena came into the library.

"Hey" the doppelganger said joining the Original at the table.

"How are you? I saw Antoinette leave."

"I am fine. You?" Elijah replied.

"Went to the Wickery Bridge with Matt."

"You did?!" Elijah was somewhat surprised.

"Kind of needed closure. I don't know. My life changed twice there." "And did you get closure?"

Elena nodded a little. "I had dreams, thoughts about how my life would be. Whether to go to Whitmore or even New York, if I was going to move away after college. I wanted to study medicine like my-  father. And then -you know-things first changed when my parents died."

"And second time when you were told you were a doppelganger?! Your life was never going to be completely your own?!" Elijah concluded.

"No-but I made peace with it. It was especially weird talking about with Katherine! Both of us didn't really have a choice in the matter. You know, I get her." Elena said.

"Well, only you can say that." Elijah remarked.

"Klaus killed her parents as punishment for turning and disabling him from breaking the curse." "I know, Elena." Elijah sighed a little.

Flashback

At the Plantation house, near New Orleans

Elijah found Katherine at Damon's grave planting flowers. She got up as she saw him standing there. 

"Hello" Elijah said.

"I thought we said all there is to say?!" Katherine said looking at him in a serious manner.

"Yes. But there is one thing I need to say. It's about Klaus."

Katherine sighed a little. "What about him?!"

"It's about me as well."

 The doppelganger looked at him calmly.

Elijah flashed back for a second to a moment 500 years ago when he had a conversation with her.

"What is it?" she now urged the Original to speak.

"There are no words that would lessen what we had done to you. But I want you to know that I recognize the pain we had caused you." Elijah said.

Katherine now turned the  look onto Damon's grave and then to Elijah.  "For more than 520 years I had one thing on my mind and that was finding a way to kill Klaus for having murdered my family. I have lied, cheated, manipulated, killed... all to survive and find a way to end him." Kathrine said, pausing for a moment.

She drew a deep breath and looked at Elijah poignantly, "We all have graves to visit now!"

Walking passed the Original vampire the brunette went her way to the house.

"I am sorry Katerina Petrova" Elijah muttered as he looked at her  walking away.

"I'm sorry. This was not easy" Elena said.

They agreed that they would all continue with a clean slate and leave the past behind.

"It's all right. You don't have to feel bad for bringing it up." Elijah said. "You also didn't have much choice- you didn't ask to be turned." Elena reminded the vampire of his disposition.

"Still, we had the choice of seeking humanity within us. We were not completely souless monsters."

"Choices-  yep!" Elena uttered.

"You miss Jeremy?!" "I do, but I have to respect his choices." Elena said with a little sigh and got up.

Suddenly they heard familiar voices coming from the disance. It was Rebekah arguing with Kol about him taking her supply of blood.

"Lable it then Rebekah's blood bag and maybe I won't touch it. Anyway, I hate cold blood!" Kol shot back at his sister.

"Why should I lable it- you should learn not to drink everything up and only think about number one-Kol!! Ugh, I wish I had that white oak ash dagger at times."

"And hello to you!" Elijah said as he opened the door for them.

"What brings you here?"

"May we not call on our brother?!" Rebekah said eyes still blazing angrily at Kol. "Of course you may. Still, has it occured to you that it might be best that you two get separate accomodation!" Elijah suggested.

"That is one reason why I came to see you," Rebekah said, "Stefan and I decided to leave MF! And I am hosting a farewell dinner-party! You are invited."

"Where are you going?" Elena enquired surprised to hear it as Stefan hadn't mentioned anything to her when they spoke earlier.

"England. We liked it there." Rebekah explained. "And you two are staying here for a guess?"

"For a little while longer." Elijah replied. Elena just added that she hadn’t decided what to do.

 It's time to dump this place!" Kol concluded.

"And where are you again?" Elena asked.

"Sophie's in New York. I will try to win her precious heart back"

"Good luck with that!" Elena remarked.

"She says she can't be with a vampire, but her goodbye kiss told me something entirely different!" Kol said.

"Keep telling yourself that" Rebekah turned to her brother still furious about the empty fridge she had encountered as she got up that morning.

To sway them from more bickering, Elijah changed the subject to the dinner party.

Elena's phone rang and she answered it. Bonnie wanted to meet her. "I will see you later." Elena said to them and left.

"Matt left, ha?!" Bonnie said.

"Everyone's leaving." Elena then told her about Stefan, Rebekah and Kol, as well as the dinner party.

"Dinner-party with the Original family?!" Bonnie then said still not being able to process the great gap of a year she had missed being locked away in the spirit world by the Hunding witches.

"It will be fine. They are already back on with the  bickering and I left Elijah to deal with them." Elena said.

"I will need loads of time to get used to it all.” Bonnie cocked an eyebrow and then got a chart out of her bag. “I found it among her Gram's books as I was trying to declutter. Read this!"

"Nova Scotia?!" Elena said as she took the map her witch friend handed it to her.

"Yes. Look at the name." Bonnie urged her friend to read on.

"Gwyn Mikaelson!" Elena read in the name written in runes and then looked at Bonnie amazed."This is weird. I don't get it?! There is another Mikaelson?!"

"I don't know what it is, but I guess one battle done, another mystery on horizon!" Bonnie said.

"One thing is for sure. It is never ends with the Mikaelson mysteries!" Elena said."can I take this?!"

"Be my guest. One thing is for sure, there is always something going on with the Mikaelsons!"

"Oh, yeah! New adventure here we come!" Elena exclaimed softly. Packing up the map and the books in the bags, they got up.

As the doppelganger got  into the car, she pressed Elijah's speedial number.

Hours later

Elijah, Kol and Rebekah, together with Elena, Stefan and Bonnie examined the map. They had Sophie Deveraux on loudspeaker.

"Gwyn Mikaelson," Rebekah said, 'tell me that she actually didn't die of plague and that this family has even darker secret in its closet!?"

Kol held the map in the hand. "There was nothing else in the Grimoire?" the Orignal said and  looked at Bonnie. "Nothing. Just this map put in it randomly." the witch replied.

"Well, how about we channel the Bennet witch line and try and dig some information out of them?" Sophie inserted.

"Let's."Bonnie said.

"So, when are you arriving in Mystic Falls?" Kol asked and everyone looked at him as the question was directed to Sophie.

"Not just yet. My witchy instincts are telling me I will see you in Nova Scotia?! Ok, you guys, I have to go now, but keep me posted." Sophie said and hung up.

Everyone could see that Kol was slightly hurt and peeved off and now moved away from the table. He tried to keep his emotions in check and not let disappointment burst into anger. Rebekah wanted to follow him, but Elijah suggested she let him be.

"So, that's it for now?!" Elena said getting up from the round table."or shall we get packing like Sophie suggested."

"I would pack, "Stefan said looking at Rebekah "I guess we are going to postpone England?!"

"Right. And I just hope it doesn't involve digging old witches up and some weird werewolves.

How come Eilif didn't say anything about Gwyn?"  Rebekah turned to her brother Elijah.

"I find it strange, too," Elijah said pensively,"but she left and it was a goodbye."

"I don't believe in goodbyes in this family. Something always comes up. Anyway, what secret do witches keep regarding our sister?!" Rebekah said taking the map in her hands,"secrets, secrets."

"Nothing that I can recall.” the Original replied.

"Mother did once say that there was a cousin born out of wedlock," Rebekah said.

”There is another Mikaelson out there - but - father had no brothers. I don’t understand. This does not make any sense.”

"I know."Rebekah uttered.

Elena looked at Elijah somewhat worried, but with great positivity in her voice "We will figure it out"

Elijah smiled a little. Her enthusiasm and optimism was always like the warm sun giving one strength to go on.

Three witches sat down around the small bonfire. They threw three rings into the fire chanting a spell.

"Always and forever" all three witches said in one voice.

Each of them then smeared their blood with sage, rosmary and thyme and threw it into the fire.

"The trinity of the sun, the moon and the earth is now sealed." one of the witches said.

As the fire subsided sometime after. They took the three rings from the ashes and put it on a young woman's body.

"Farewell, dear girl." they said crying, as they put the three herbs entwined on her head as a crown.

In New Orleans

"Jeremy...wake up!" Caroline said to poking Jeremy a bit with her finger.

"Ha...what?" the hunter murmured as he woke up looking at the blonde standing beside his bed.

"I told him to let you sleep." Klaus said sitting in one of the chairs by the window.

Jeremy rubbed his face and then his eyes.

"Tell me this is a nightmare...how...aren't you supposed to be locked away in some weird witchy void spirit world?!" Jeremy said referring to Klaus as he sat up.

"He kinda got released due to good behaviour. And I had something to do with it being a heroine for killing a weird-looking werewolf. Anyway, get up. you need to get to Elena and the others. Something weird is happening again. You have to tell them that they need to try and find Sigrid Mikaelson. That's all we know." Caroline said in her ghostly form.

"I thought it was too good to be true that I will have a life and not have to do any of the vampire-ghost relaying messages thing!!"Jeremy moaned.

"We have to go" Klaus said to Caroline.

"I want to stay here a little while longer"  Caroline said to the Original hybrid.

"We have to go, love" Klaus came up to the blonde.

Suddenly Jeremy could feel the surge of magic break.

"Caroline!" he called out, but the pair were gone.

"Great!" Jeremy said taking his phone dialing Elena's number, which went directly to voice mail.

Hours later, on the plane to Nova Scotia

Elena opnened her diary and wrote down, "I don't know what date it is anymore. Who cares. Here we are on the plane to Nova Scotia. Only a few months ago we fought off the Hunding werewolf clan, who tried to take over and kill the Original family.

I will not write about Elijah today. Because if I do, it will take pages and pages. It’s so complicated. Idk why. But it is. It’s like - we are friends, and then we are not. Idk what we are. Ugh I got to stop, cuz as I said it would be pages and pages and pages about me and Elijah - I just know that I - want to be with him. But he still has issues with stuff - like Tatia, Antoinette. Etc.

Oh....seems like there is a lot of ohs coming.

There was a lot going on in the last few months. Nothing is the same. And it is ok.

Now we are going to try to figure out if the mysterious map with the name of Gwyn Mikaelson really makes sense and if she is somewhere out there.

It's a new adventure. I must say that I am partly excited. Elijah, Rebekah and Kol are sort of anxious, although they would never admit it. The ancient Original thing being cool and all. We haven't got a clue what we will find, if anything. I just hope we don't dig something that will haunt us. But then again, I think we will. Like Bonnie said- ever since the Originals came into our lives, it is not boring.

I am glad Bonnie is with us, but it is still strange not having Caroline around. I miss her so much. And if there is any truth about her ghost being with Klaus' ghost, then it makes a bit easier to go on.

I don't want to think of my nightmare.

Detroit, Michigan 2009

The bar was loud, Athena sat in the corner booth waiting for the informant she was meeting, nursing a glass of vodka mixed with O-. she saw a tall man wearing a leather jacket walk into the bar, he looked around but when he spotted her he slowly made his way over, a douchie smile on his face. He sat down at the other end of the booth.

"that strawberry?" he asked gesturing to the drink in her hand

"Strawberry blonde, want some?" without waiting for his answer she turned and gestured to the young bartender with a scarf wrapped around her wrist to come to the table. When the girl got there she sat down next to Athena and offered her her clothed wrist. Athena gracefully removed the scared from her wrist and sank her teeth back into the holes in the skin she had made earlier. She brought the girl's hand over her glass and applying a small pressure to one of the veins, blood spilled from her arm and into the glass. Once Athena's cup was full enough she stopped applying pressure, and it stopped bleeding immediately.

"How did you do that?" the man asked her

"Science and medicine, learn enough about the human body you can do basically anything." he nodded, Athena gestured to the girl to go over to him and she did. He sunk his teeth into her arm and drank greedily.

"Don't kill her, she's very helpful," with that the man withdrew and with a gesture from Athena, the girl wrapped the scarf back around her wrist and went back to work.

"I agreed to meet you because you claim to have information that would be useful to my brother and I, what is it?" Athena demanded, all hints of kindness gone from her voice, face now in resting bitch mode.

"Kathrine Pierce," he said with a smile on his face. She gave him a confused look and thought for a moment, then it hit her.

"Ahh, Katerina Petrova. Have you found her?" she asked.

"No, but-" he was interrupted.

"Then why are you wasting my time?!" she asked sternly. He hesitated for a moment, terrified of angering her further. Hed heard the stories of what her and her brothers were capable of.

"I've found her doppelganger," Athena froze, Katerina was the last of her family line, Klaus had said so himself, he'd made sure of it.

"That's impossible, Katerina's family line ended with her. And vampires can't have children."

"I don't know how it's happened, Mrs. Mikaelson, but it is. She's in mystic falls, Virginia. Her name is Elena Gilbert. She looks just like Katherine, and she's human.'' Athena looked at the floor deep in thought, then she smiled a genuine, excited smile. The curse could finally be broken.

"Thank you for bringing this to my attention, now tell me, what reward do you want for this information."

"Assistance," the man said.

"Assistance?" Athena responded amused. "Whatever for?"

"My friends and I have been imprisoned underground for 150 years, we want revenge on the people who did that to us, but the Salvatore brothers have gotten in our way, I ask that when the time comes for you to go to Virginia to claim the doppelganger you destroy mystic falls in the process." Athena saddened at the mention of her long-lost brothers, even though she had a new family she still missed them. She had not seen Stefan in 90 years on account of what Klaus had done to Stefan's wife, Athena's adoptive sister, Rebekah. And she had not seen Damon since she was human, on account of what he did to her sons. She missed Stefan with all her heart, and even though she missed her twin, she didn't think herself capable of forgiving him for what he did. She nodded at the man's request.

"Now that good sir, is something I can do," she replied boastfully, smirking.

Athena pulled up to her brother's Dearborn, Michigan mansion in her green, 1966 Lamborghini Miura. The house was small for Klaus's usual lodgings, but it was only temporary. She walked up the stairs to the front door and let herself into her temporary home.

"Klaus! Where are you," she called not loudly since she knew he could hear her.

"I'm in my studio!" he called back from the other side of the mansion.

She made her way through to the back of the house to a sunroom on the edge of the house's garden. There was Klaus on a stool sitting in front of a large canvas. He was painting a small red bird that was 10 feet in front of him in the garden, the red paint of course was the blood from the body lying at his feet.

"Nik!" she screamed and gestured to the body on the concrete floor.

"What?"

"You're going to stain the concrete! You know you can't wash blood off of stone!"

"It's fine sister, were only going to be staying another couple of months anyway,"

"Yes, about that..." Klaus turned from his painting to look at her, puzzled. "I have a surprise for you." he smiled.

"Do you now?" he inquired, Athena just grinned. "Well? What is it?"

"I.. or rather one of my minions, has found us a doppelganger." he stared at her, expression unreadable.

"That's impossible..." he started

"That's what I said, but my informant is positive, she looks just like Katerina and she's human," she told her brother, stepping towards him. He smiled, but noticed the hesitation hidden in her eyes.

"What else? There's something off I can see it.'' Athena scoffed, she hated how he could always tell when something was up with her.

"My brothers, or my biological brothers to be specific, Stefan and Damon. They have named themselves her protectors. They'll be a problem, and it's not like we can just kill them,"

"Why not?" she gave him an annoyed look. "Alright fine, I won't hurt them, I see why you would want to protect Stefan but hey Damon after what he did-"

"I thought we agreed to never speak of that," she cut him off, hurt by the memory he had dug up.

"I'm sorry," Klaus said, genuinely noticing her change in mood.

"Its fine," she responded, setting aside her emotions, "so, we have a doppelganger, it won't be that hard to procure a vampire and werewolf, we have a witch, and I could also always do the spell myself, all we need is the moonstone."

"Katerina stole it when she escaped, we have no idea where she or it is," he told her.

"But we do, my brothers have dated not one but two doppelgangers. So id say they are as smitten with them as they are. Katerina turned them for a reason. And having a doppelganger who is basically a biological double out in the open-"

"She has too much to lose if she doesn't come out," Klaus surmises.

"Exactly, she knows we can find her using the doppelgangers blood, and she doesn't know Stefan and Damon are my brothers, she thinks you will kill them on sight. Shell try to protect them. She might even come out just to stop you to get back at Elijah for breaking her heart,"

"Elijah's not here, he's working against us,"

"She doesn't know that, and it's the last thing she'll expect,"

"So we just wait till she shows herself, then make a move," he asks.

"Yes, we shouldn't tip them off that we're coming until we are ready to strike. They can't stop us but they will make it harder." Klaus smiled at her.

"Alright! So where am I going to commit my next massacre,"

"Home."

Does tvd count as a separate show? lol

It does now! I’ll try to keep the Originals out of this list. Also a slight disclaimer, I have only watched s2-s4 and a little bit of s5 of TVD.

Favorite Male Character: Stefan Salvatore. While Damon is mostly a dick and sarcastic, no matter who he is with, Stefan is kind, gentle and silly with Elena, sassy and quirky with Lexi and Caroline, moody and bossy with Damon, power hungry and evil with Klaus, the list goes on. So while Stefan seems to be the straight guy of the two, I think he is much more unpredictable than Damon, and thus far more interesting to watch.

Favorite Female Character: Elena Gilbert, especially in s2 and s3. She is brave, kind hearted, cares about her friends and family A Lot, and doesn’t deserve the shit she is put through. 

Special shout out to Bonnie, she is AWESOME, but she didn’t get much development and was often shoved to the sidelines.

Least Favorite Character: Tyler. I just.. go UGH every time he is on screen. The actor is not that good in my opinion, and his lines feel very forced. I liked his relationship with Caroline, but Candice King made those scenes work. That actor as Klaus? Yeah no. Tyler was done dirty though, being killed by Damon of all people.

Favorite Ship: Stelena. There is a lot of love and respect between these two. Even when they are not together together, they have a bond which they don’t have with any one else. Tbh, I think Elena’s character especially suffered with the whole Sire Bond storyline.

Favorite Friendship: Damon and Alaric. I even low-key ship them. They are an Iconic Duo, and showed a side of Damon I really liked. Please care about other people and don’t obsess with Elena all the time please Damon.

Favorite Quote: “Dear diary...”. Ok, without joking: Katherine to Elena in 4x21: “I don’t turn [my emotions/humanity] off, I deal with it.”

Worst Character Death (if any): On an emotional level, Aunt Jenna. That hurt, ok. Elena crying, both are so shocked. It was a horrible but wonderful moment with a great pay off. On an, OMG they are so stupid, level: Jeremy in s4. Honestly, the whole search for the cure was pretty dumb, because the warning signs were all over the place, and then Katherine is just like, LOL, whoops he is dead now see ya.

This made me so happy you have no idea Moment: Elena undaggering Elijah Stefan stealing the coffins right from under Klaus’ nose. That made me incredibly happy. Stefan beating Klaus in his own game? Hell Yes.

Saddest Moment: Elena’s speech about not wanting to become a vampire in s2. In a show were such crazy things happen, you forget how young they all are. This scene really helped to understand that. And how 5 years seem like eternity when you are a teenager, never mind Immortality.

Favorite Location: The Salvatore house. It is gorgeous.

It's totally OK if you don't want to talk about this since it isn't your ship, but can I ask what you meant when you said you knew DE was endgame because of the way it was written? Like is it about their tropes or their scenes that made that certainty for you? I'm kind of a dummy about the craft-of-writing stuff and when I was watching TVD for the first time years ago I was convinced SE was endgame

it’s okay don’t worry! :D and I mean like... my feelings re d/elena were that it wasn’t necessarily what I was batting for but I thought the writing for it was good and like I cried when they got together forreal in s4 so like it’s not a ship I detest or anything I just was team dalaric first and foremost ;)

anyway mind that I hadn’t exactly put two and two together when watching it but when I caught up with S7-8 last year with the friend who was watching it from the beginning friend in case kind of alerted me on that like SORRY HOW DID PEOPLE THINK THAT IT WAS GONNA END ANY OTHER WAY IT WAS OBVIOUS and when I thought abt it in retrospective it was obvious I just wasn’t paying that much attention back in the day, but like tldr I’ll make it short:

usually endgame ships are not the ones you start the show with unless it’s like... idk something like the superman lois and clark show I used to watch in middle school where THE ENTIRE POINT is showing you that one couple that you know start and end together but like... for that kinda thing usually writers don’t start with the endgame ship bc otherwise the stakes are too low, but given that tvd books have st/elena endgame we could argue it’s not enough which true, but going ahead

basically d/elena was automatically set up as the will they won’t they ship plus the slow burn ship plus the enemies to lovers which regardless of what ppl say is the most obvious trope ya stuff goes for which already would start giving the kill bill sirens about where it goes, because like idk about tvd writers but if *I* wanted to write an endgame ship I would make them work for it (and we can argue that in that sense st/eroline was also... the same in the sense that you had the friends to lovers slow burn thing since S2, then it ended the way it ended but paradoxically st/eroline was written as more of an endgame thing than st/elena was if only for how much they slow burned it)

we can also argue that like... I mean take it for what it is bc I’ve seen s1-beginning of 7 while airing and 7-8 last year and my memory is what it is, but like... god I mean ya stuff with teenagers in general as mains have to do the whole BECOMING AN ADULT arc 90% of the times because they’re marketed to people who start them while they’re still teens and see themselves in the main so like while if it’s unisex or for guys you have the kid going off on adventures and shit if it’s aimed at girls it’s usually romance stuff which in this case means that main has to end up as an adult woman blah blah blah and in that sense... like stefan is obviously in the show the initial *safe* choice that she immediately likes and looks good and like the obviously easy lovely nice person to be with - let’s say more like a comfort zone kinda deal? - while damon is like I DON’T KNOW THIS GUY HE’S EVIL HE’S DANGEROUS SHOULD I TRUST HIM OR NOT HE’S HOT BUT HMMM and then turns out that it’s not as easy as that (and I appreciate the show was... very not stereotypical about it let’s just put like that) but basically stefan is loveydovey teenage safe relationship material and damon is adult complicated TRUE LOVE BUT I HAVE TO WORK FOR IT material (from elena’s pov ofc) which... has a more satisfying payoff as an eventual endgame bc in picking damon elena basically becomes an adult which is also paralleled with her being a vampire - like she’s a human with stefan and a vampire with damon before the whole cure thing but you see where I’m going at, like it’s all about symbolism;

that’s talking about elena but like basically from damon’s pov they also wrote the thing as.. his endgame because like idk if it’s gonna make sense but the moment you look at how both stefan and damon relate to elena, and I’m saying this as someone who back when airing was absolutely into st/elena and was lowkey rooting for it until I realized it was dead and gone and then I just went like WELL D/ELENA AND ST/EROLINE ARE GOOD SHIPS FINE THEN so this is hardly st/elena bashing on my side or anything, like... for damon it’s a lot more high stakes to be with elena than it was for stefan? like okay they were in love in the beginning but the way damon is into elena is a lot more all-encompassing on his side and you can see that in loving elena he also gets rid of his katherine-related trauma (which like... damon has more katherine-trauma than stefan like ofc stefan has katherine trauma too but damon beats it) because he manages to leave her behind and like.. stefan didn’t have those stakes with elena? and like the fact that his feelings for elena are framed in extremely romanceworthytragical-like terms (I mean I didn’t even ship it and I cried at that scene in what S2 episode 9 where he compelled her to forget stuff like... that shit is written like GREAT AMAZING ROMANCE STUFF in comparison to how st/elena was written) and that they had to work for it (bc there was the compulsion thing first then she forgot him then she was *dead* blah blah blah) put a lot more emotional payoff in the eventual endgame that it was than if damon had died, stefan had stayed single etc, like... they didn’t set up st/elena as the ship that had to overcome trauma over trauma to stay together while with d/elena they did, so XD

like tldr all of d/elena’s interactions in retrospective were written the way you write The Romance Of The Show and if the writers didn’t intend it from the get go then they look better than they actually are

also I can add that back when I watched this movie I hadn’t seen gone with the wind, which the friend in question had seen, and I was bluntly told ‘sorry in that scene in S1 where she dances with him at the school thing and she comes down the stairs they were framed exactly like scarlett and rhett in gone with the wind and you’re telling me it wasn’t meant to be endgame’ so there’s that too X°D

Do you think the writing is as bad on tvd as it is on TO because that show couldn't find a comprehendible storyline if it tried. And i mean the acting is pretty bad on TO BUT above all what i hate the most about TO is that it's literally called the originals and it becomes SO MUCH about other people that you see some originals become supporting characters in their storyline, much like Hayley. Its kind of like the vampire diaries being called that when......there were literally no more diary entries like at all???

Hmmmm I haven't re-watched The Originals in quite some time, not since it ended so I can't give you the same retrospect that I'm doing for tvd, though I do hope to rewatch it once I'm done with TVD. Most of this is from my memory which we all know is quite flawed.

I do think that the Originals suffered from a lot of the same problems that TVD struggled with. And I find myself not really liking it without the caveat of it's actually quite bad but oh well. So, yeah, on the whole I agree, the originals was never brilliant either.

There are some marked differences in the writing. I think people overstate the role that Hayley played in the show. She actually always was second fiddle to whatever the Mikaelsons were up to. So I don't actually think that the criticism of the Originals not being about the Originals to have much merit. The Originals was primarily about the family dynamics between the Mikaelsons and the shortcomings of such a family. Hayley was sidelined a lot of the time and her storylines were always dropped in favor of Klaus and Elijah. I think a much more reasonable criticism here is that the Originals failed to center any of the Mikaelsons as much as it centered Klaus and Elijah, so it ended up revolving too much around the same relationship that TVD had. They did get one thing right, though, when it comes to not placing a romantic love as the center of the conflict, which imo make klelijah a much more interesting and dynamic duo since the love between them is undeniable. Something that I struggle with fully believing with Stefan and Damon.

The other thing that I think the Originals failed miserably at is female characters. And I mean, you see the pattern of them either sidelining or killing off female characters and honestly it's just *sigh*. Pretty much learned nothing from TVD.

The baddies were often times boring past season 2 tbh. The second and first season fared better in that department because the threat to the family being from within the family was particularly interesting and had high emotional stakes which are always better when you have such powerful protagonists. The trio of season 3 could have been interesting. But they honestly turned out to be a snooze fest.

Which is also something that I take a lot of issue with in this show that i think also has the TVD blueprint all over it. A lot of storylines with potential that kind of just fall flat on their face with a resounding MEH.

It did have some things that I enjoyed more. The acting, for example, is on the whole better-ish. I think that's mostly thanks to Joseph who is a genuinely talented actor. Daniel does well, most of the time, but is too stiff sometimes. Charles is quite charismatic so can compensate a lot for not being as good in a scene. Claire gets better in TO than she did on TVD. Phoebe, too, though I'm not under the impression that she's particularly good, but also charismatic enough I think. Then you have gems like Yusuf Gatewood who is just too damn excellent. Maisie is also good. I think they have a few guest stars like Claudia Black who are compelling. So not terrible on the whole.

TVD is a little worse off in my mind acting-wise. Paul does really well in a scene that is actually good. But Ian is very limited in range. He can pull off some things but mostly skates by on squinting and muttering through a clenched jaw any emotional scene. I think Candice and Nina have some really good moments, Nina especially as Katherine. But Nina as Elena is not good, actually. And Candice isn't given enough range. Same with Kat who is very charismatic but is not allowed enough room for acting. And the side characters are on the whole not good. Trevino and Zach and the actor who plays Jeremy being at the top of the list. They're all endearingly bad, in the sense that it's a part of the show's charm but that also makes some of their scenes really cringy to watch. And again I do think that most of good acting is about good writing so if you're not given much to work with l... also who you're playing opposite probably makes a lot of difference. I think Paul's scenes with Joseph are especially good because Joseph is really good, so the whole thing just Levels Up.

Anyways that was a very long ramble.

As of recent I really started to like the character of Nick Amaro from Law&Order_svu, played by Danny Pino. I also love him as Miguel Galindo in Mayans MC... and so, in this story - paired with Elena Gilbert, of course, my favourite female character.

"The conversation ended really bad," Elena said to Caroline, "I can't breathe- I have this pain here"

The brunette put her hand on her chest.

"Elena-now you are exaggerating. You said the same thing when you broke up with Matt." Caroline was blunt with her oldest friend.

"This is different. I thought he was the one." Elena tried to make her point why she was so upset.

"Guys sleep around,you know that. Maybe not all, but -  Damon is such a guy-ok-where is your bag, your keys? Come on we need drinks. Lots of Martinis! "Caroline helped her friend put her jacket on. Elena wiped her tears off.

"Come on, get into the car" The blonde huffed a bit.

Elena could not say no to her and she didn't want to. She needed her friends beside her and she knew that, even though they could not make the heartache magically go away, they will do everything to make her feel a bit better.

They drove off to a place called Liberty Park. Elena put her sunglasses on, to hide her puffed up eyes. She felt a throbbing headache now set in.

"A walk in the park and some air will help", Caroline chatted away, "so tell me- you went to his place and she opened the door"

"Yes - and he was  like - oops, sorry - this  here - Krystal being there - it just a mistake- I love you like crazy, yadda, yadda, yadda-URGH-sure he loves me like crazy- and then sleeps with her?!" Elena inhaled sharply now and Caroline could notice that anger was taking over. It was good. Anger was the first step of starting to deal with the situation. Or maybe not. But, at least she was not crying anymore.

"Anger is good. Let it all out." Caroline said in a supportive kind of a tone, continuing, of course with questions, "And so what did you tell him? Why did you get into the fight in the first place?"

"Well, about her! Whenever she calls, he just goes over to her place. I know that they have a kid,-and now I will sound like a bitch- and I love the boy! You know me. I love kids. I want to have at least three-huh"

"Maybe, she staged everything?!" Caroline then said.

"No, he actually admitted sleeping with her!" Elena said.

"Really?" Elena nodded, "Stefan said they broke up because she wanted time off to herself. She kicked Damon out, right?!"

"I think that he has never really stopped loving her. And they have a five- year old kid - and what was I thinking?!"

"Stop that. You fell for him. And it's not the end of the world. Come on now, you need a Maritni. I know I do!" Caroline now urged her to go to their favourite bar that was not far from the park.

To give Elena much needed girly support, Caroline now called their other three friends to join them. Dialling Rebekah Mikaelson's number first.

"Rebekah?! Yes, if you can-of course we are- will call Bonnie-can you call Yemaya?-Good-Yep-See ya."

"I want pizza and and a big load of Martinis, so I can forget everything!" Elena said as they sat down at a table.

Caroline now told the waiter to keep the Martinis coming.

Elena was a sensitive creature, full of dreams, pure emotion, a sweet soul. Caroline was a very pragmatic one, strong, very opinionated, but with a heart of gold. And she would do anything for her bffs, but also for all those who suffered in any way. No wonder she got a law degree.

"Why me? I loved him" Elena now ventured into the self pity zone.

"You just fall in love- and put all heart out there!" Caroline stated, "and  usually with the wrong guys- just like me! But you will be cured. Bonnie will get the pizza. I'll give her a call."

Whenever there was a heartbreak, problems at work or family problems, the five would meet no matter what it was, they made a pact to be there for one another. But they also found time to get together to have a good time as well.

"Breathe now, Elena!" Rebekah said as she arrived a bit later, hugging her friend. "You will forget him! I promise you! Tomorrow it will be- Damon, who!?"

The waiter now served them another round of cocktails.

"Cocktails and pizza, seriously?" Bonnie said as she finally arrived.

"Elena wanted pizza?!" Caroline explained.

"Nevermind. What did you get?" Rebekah now said and  opened the pizza box.

"Extra cheese and pepperoni" Bonnie replied.

"Perfect! Caroline said taking a slice.

"It's kareoke night!" Bonnie looked at the board near the bar, adding, "Yemaya will be late. She has to finish her  article!"

"I don't know why she won't come and work for me-but I guess she likes to be a serious journalist and not write about fashion." Rebekah remarked taking a sip of her drink.

Rebekah was the editor of a fashion magazine in her family's newspaper empire. She and Caroline met in college and struck a friendship immediately. Bonnie became friends with Elena and Caroline in senior high as she moved from a small town from the north. Yemaya was Bonnie's cousin on her father's side.

The only one of them that had a steady relationship was Bonnie, dating Rebekah's brother Kol. The other women had loads of heartbreaks behind them and knew exactly how Elena felt.

A crazy fun night was starting as finally Yemaya arrived at the bar.

Rebekah, Elena and Caroline entertained everyone with their kareoke night. Letting go was just what everyone needed. Noone cared  about how they actually would feel in the  morning. But who cared about the hangover on a working day, once in a while everything needed to be let loose.

Caroline made sure Elena got home safe and sound, tucking her into bed litterally.

"You are my best bestie" Elena muttered with a drunken cheerful smile.

"Sweet dreams!" Caroline smirked at her friend before she switched off the light.

She exited Elena's tiny apartment.

The morning arrived, or better said, lunch hour was already on for most people, when she woke up and checked at her phone. There  were several missing calls with Damon's name on the display. She tossed the phone away and now tried to get up. Her head still felt woozy and she slightly regretted having way too many Martinis. She walked to the bathroom very slowly. A long shower would help as always.

Rebekah and Caroline already had met for brunch. Unlike Elena, they eased up with their drinks but were revisiting some of the scenes of the previous night.

"You could have chosen singing career. I never understood why you got into Law School." Rebekah remarked.

"My mum and dad - you she is the dective and he is the lawyer. It's good that I can let some steam out once in a while."

"Do you think she will take Damon back?! You know, Elena-she will get soft when he starts talking sweet to her"

"I don't know," Caroline said, "I really didn't get that she got into Damon. I have always thought that it would be his brother Stefan. They could talk, he was always helping her with stuff. After the break up with Matt."

"Wasn't she also going out with Tyler? He was really something.  Can I guy be so full of himself?!" Rebekah said.

"Ah, don't mention Tyler. So  wrong for her"

"Is there any right guy out there?!" Rebekah wondered, as she had a string of unhappy relationships and loads of one-night stands that she wanted to forget.

"Bonnie is the lucky one. I thought that Kol had already proposed. They are now four years together." Caroline changed the subject.

"I think that he is going to ask her to move in together. Well, they practically live together. One weekend they are inhis apartment, the next weekend in hers. Oh, I got news. Big news. Klaus is coming home. He is done building houses in Eastern Europe. Mother is preparing a great welcome party on Saturday. You guys are all invited." Rebekah said.

"Klaus is coming home?! His been like away-what-forever?!" Caroline remarked.

"Ten years. And so is Miguel. My adoptive brother. I guess they both had enough of being away from the family. Actually, Miguel has been back for a month now. Buy he is no party person, you know. His son Cristobal is so amazing."

"Cristobal?" Caroline asked.

“Yeah. I am so glad he is back. He is so much fun. Loves photography. He is so like his mother. And he definitely not going to be a surgeon."

"Oh, yeah -Miguel is a surgeon, right?"

"Yes. He is a cardiologist. Oh, when he and Kol get together, there is always talk of scientific research. Boring if you ask me"

"That Kol is an orthopedic surgeon, kind of still is so totally strange," Caroline stated,"you never talked about Miguel!? How come he went to live in Mexico?"

"It's a long story." Rebekah said with a sad huff.

"You said once that his wife died?"

"Yes. And he- kind of shut down. Thank God he had Cris." Rebekah now told her friend a little bit more about Miguel and how he was adopted by her father and mother when he was five years old.

Elsewhere

Elena called her shop just to let her staff know that she would be arriving late that day. Her assistant Nora told her that everything was under control and that she can take the day off.

Her phone rang again and now she swiped her call open.

"Stop calling me, Damon! I so don't want to know-I am done!!! We are done!!!!" Elena pressed the red button on the phone to click the call off.

Inhaling sharply she turned to the mirror as she was about to open the door.

"Looking good girl. You are so going to rip him out of your heart!"  She put the sunglasses on and took her bag, slamming the door shut behind her. 

She had no particular idea where she wanted to go. She just wanted to walk. And so she walked. Shopping was always a good option, hoping the hangover would slowly clear up.

Her phone rang and said, "Hey. I am fine, Bonnie. Just taking a walk. Maybe I will get to the shop later. Need to revise some recipes. Yes, he called. But I slammed the phone down on him. I don't really care. I am done crying. I am done with him. I am done dating. Yeah-ok-I will talk to you later"

She now  put the phone in her bag and being still hangover didn't look where she was going, and as she wanted to open the door to a cafe she nearly bumped into a man who was about to do the same.

"Sorry." Elena apologized immediately. 

"Oh-it's my fault- I - just-my thoughts were somewhere else. Please" the man in his forties then opened the door and let Elena get in first.

"I am usually not so distracted”

"It's fine. " the man said. 

They looked at one another as if time had stopped for a moment, and they didn't know what to do next.

"Where are my manners," he then said, "Can I offer you of coffee as an apology?"

"Yes" Elena muttered. "Shall we?"

"Yeah" Elena slipped and they found a nice available table at the window. "They have great smoothies here"

"They do? You know this place very well, then?"

"Pretty much. It's like my breakfast/lunch place- strawberry is the best" Elena recommended.

"Right. I will have a smoothie then- and coffee with skimmed milk" the dapper looking man said to the shop assistant.

Elena ordered nearly the same, adding blueberry pancakes to the order.

This was something he had not done for ages, namely, inviting a woman for a drink so casually, even if it was just a harmless cup of coffee. It was as if someone or something nudged him to do it, or maybe because he saw  certain saddnes in her eyes, or maybe it was just Cupid doing his job of getting two people together.

"I was at a party last night - and kind of had one too many-and need all this to wake up." Elena explained all the food that arrived.

"It must have been some party" the man he said politely.

"I am not usually doing this in the middle of the week- but-it was something out of the ordinary."

"You don't have to explain."

"No, I know. So-what is it that you do?" Elena now took notice that he was wearing a very expensive business suit and his whole aura gave out that he was a very professional man.

"I am a cardiologist. I work at the University hospital."

"Oh, right. I’m a pastry chef." Elena said.

"Ah, so you are very well versed in the sugar department" the man nooded watching at the brunette in a sweet way.

"Yes. I own a shop called Lena's Cookies in the the Linden street."

They chatted some more about her work until a phone call interupted them. He apologized saying that he had to take a call. But soon, Elena's phone went as well. It was Caroline. Elena now told her friend where she was, but nothing about who she was with.

"I am so sorry." the man  said as he returned to the table. "This was my son. I will have to leave now, but it was very nice meeting you-?" In all that initial confusion they had not introduced themselves to one another.

"Elena!"the brunette said.

"Mike! Nice to meet you, Elena." Miguel said with a little smile, excusing himself.

"Mike." Elena muttered to herself as she sat down at the table again and dreamily sipped down her coffee.
