Whether you're interested in exploring ancient temples and palaces, trying traditional Korean cuisine, or simply soaking up the local culture, there's something for everyone in Korea.
One of the best ways to experience Korea is by visiting its many historical and cultural sites. The ancient city of Gyeongju, for example, is home to a wealth of historical treasures, including the impressive Bulguksa Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The temple features intricate carvings and beautiful pagodas, and is considered one of the most important Buddhist monuments in Korea. The temple is surrounded by a beautiful forested area and visitors can hike to the temple, along the walk visitors can enjoy the natural beauty of the area and also see other smaller temples.
Another must-see destination for history buffs is the city of Seoul, the capital of South Korea. Here, you can visit the impressive Gyeongbokgung Palace, a royal palace from the Joseon Dynasty. The palace is a beautiful example of traditional Korean architecture and visitors can take a guided tour to learn more about the history of the palace and the Joseon Dynasty. Visitors can also see the changing of the guard ceremony, which is held in the palace courtyard. In addition, the palace is surrounded by beautiful gardens and visitors can take a stroll around the palace to see the gardens. Korea is also famous for its delicious food, from traditional dishes such as kimchi and bibimbap, to modern fusion cuisine. Be sure to try some of the local specialties during your visit, such as samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly) or japchae (stir-fried glass noodles). Korean cuisine is known for its use of fermented ingredients, such as kimchi and soy sauce, which gives the dishes a unique and delicious flavor. Visitors can also try traditional Korean drinks such as makgeolli, a rice wine, and soju, a distilled spirit.
In addition to its rich history and delicious food, Korea is also known for its picturesque landscapes. Take a trip to Jeju Island, a volcanic island located off the southern coast of the Korean Peninsula, known for its beautiful beaches, lush forests, and scenic hiking trails. Jeju Island is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts and visitors can hike to the top of the island's highest peak, Hallasan Mountain, which offers beautiful views of the island. Visitors can also visit the island's many beaches, such as Hyeopjae Beach, which is known for its beautiful white sand and clear blue water.
Overall, Korea is a fascinating and diverse country with something to offer every traveler. Whether you're interested in history, culture, food, or nature, you're sure to find something that you'll love in Korea. “செம்பவளம்-허황옥”/“Chembavalam-Heo Hwang-Ok” இனிய பொங்கல் நல்வாழ்த்துக்கள்! Today we’re gonna look at Chembavalam(செம்பவளம்) a.k.a Queen Heo Hwang-Ok(허황옥), who went on to become the matriarch of the Gimhae Heo(김해 허) and the Gimhae Kim(김해 김) clans in Korea, the latter being the biggest in the country, according to this research paper I found. Heo Hwang-Ok sailed to Gimhae, South Korea from the “Ayuta” Kingdom, announced herself to be 16 and had come to marry King Kim Suro on divine commission. Together, they founded the Kaya Kingdom and established the clans of Kim and Heo- says Ilyon’s “Samguk Yusa” (삼국유사/மூவேந்தர் சரிதம் in Tamil). In his paper, Dr. Kannan claims that Chembavalam, a princess of the “Ay'' kingdom (now Kanniyakumari) and Heo Hwang-Ok were the same person, contesting Kim Byung Mo’s (professor emeritus at Hanyang University) claim that it was Princess Suriratna of Ayodhya who went on to become his ancestor, which lead to Gimhae and Ayodhya becoming sister-cities. Dr. Kannan’s argument rests on the following: Ayodhya being called “Saketa” at the time of the book, Twin Fish symbolism, Tamil connections to Korean Buddhism and linguistic similarities between the two tongues (which is like, a LOT. There’re so many yt videos on this, I literally went on a binge). The linguistic similarities are mostly credited to the Tamils’ global maritime trade. Though Dr. Kannan seems to have provided ample references; whether queen Heo Hwang-Ok existed is a matter of debate. Either way, it makes for a nice story, doesn’t it? Symbolism: elephants (Ay Kingdom's flag), fish (Twin fish symbol similarity) Source: Kannan Narayanan, “The Ancient Korean Tamil Connection via Heo Hwang-Ok Alias Chempavalam” #leanderscribbles#tamil#tamilhistory#தமிழ்#tamilartist#tamilart#chembavalam#korean#korea#southkorea#southasian#asian#history#samgukyusa#kim#koreanhistory#koreanlanguage#kpop#heo#heohwangok#pongal#cards#deckofcards#queenofhearts#한국#instagram#explore https://www.instagram.com/p/CYsxcp3BaJi/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Repost from 2017: Empress Myeongsong, the last queen of the Korean kingdom of Joseon. This royal member fought for independence and autonomy before she was brutally murdered by Miura Goro and his constituents from the Empire of Japan. Their campaign led to the fall of Joseon and the deterioration of the late king. #queen #empress #korea #koreanhistory #assassination #myeongsong #queenmin #koreanroyalty #history #japan #japanesehistory #zawuel https://www.instagram.com/p/CGTuhD9l69h/?igshid=rwj5a52wvnqe

Asia Pacific 125 years ago today: Donghak Peasant Revolution (09 Jun 1894) https://buff.ly/2F0fnnt In 1894 peasants and followers of the Donghak religious movement revolted against corrupt government officials in Korea. Alarmed, the Korean government appealed to China to intervene. China did so, but so did Japan, leading both countries to land troops in Korea the same day. #asiapacific #history #welovemaps #map #1890s #1894 #chineseempire #chinesehistory #donghak #japanesehistory #koreanhistory #june #june9 #korea #japaneseempire #asianhistory #maps #welovehistory #worldhistory #19thcentury #todayinhistory #historytoday #historyteacher #historygeek #historynerd #historybuff #historyofkorea #revolution #rebellion #victorianera (at Gwangju) https://www.instagram.com/p/ByeqfbzgH-U/?igshid=oc7hn0dbixff

Connecting historical research with its legacies, present and future
A woman reached out to me today whose great-grandfather died in one of modern Korean history’s primary penal institutions and a very important site for my research. From what she has gathered from family oral history, her great-grandfather was an independence activist in the colonial period, and was later branded a communist and died in Seodaemun Prison just before the outbreak of the Korean War. I am energized by this fortuitous connection and humbled as I enter my period of archival field work knowing that the prisoners’ stories did not end with them. Their legacies live on in Korea, in its diaspora, in the ongoing Cold War and in its futurity.

Last year I took you on a trip around the historical areas from the Baekje Kingdom @baekje_historic_areas which was one of the three main kingdoms in Korea between years 18 and 660 A.D. It’s been a while since I got to go on a trip and I definitely miss my little escapes from Seoul 🥲 Last year I got to visit several of the Baekje historical areas but still so many to go… There are three main areas - Buyeo, Iksan and Gongju, which were each the capital of the kingdom at one point during its time. Here is my little memory from Buyeo 🥰 Hope I can visit again!

Today, 100 years ago, Korean activists read out loud the Korean Declaration of Independence in downtown Seoul. The Movement provided a catalyst for the Korean Independence Movement. Despite the movement could not be able to accelerate the independence of Koreans over Japanese government, it triggered Koreans to show their desire to stand as a nation (vid cr by 100년이 묻습니다). || Our youtube account : youtube.com/user/saungkorea https://www.instagram.com/p/Bud1MCpjfJxE9u7Qt8RCu8VHVRqfgMZU-LcbUg0/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1neibkub5ebda

a special trip to Korea video the moonlight tour of Changdeokgung Palace in Korea. I am honoured to be a part of this wonderful virtual trip at night to Changdeokgung Palace. Changdeokgung Palace is in Jongno District, Seoul, South Korea. The star of Seoul's five Joseon Dynasty palaces was built by King Taejong in 1405. It was used as secondary palace to Gyeongbokgung for about two centuries. From the time of Seongjong, the ninth king of Joseon began using it as a place of residence. Now it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous for it's royal residence buildings and beautiful gardens.
