SUBMISSION PROPAGANDA:
Kotomi -
"Kotomi is more often than not seen reading all alone in the library without her shoes. It takes time to bring her out of her focus on her book. She had to be taught how to greet people, and always greets them the same way, stating her name, class number, and that she would like to be friends. If someone teases her, she hides behind someone else and asks if that person is a bully. She loves to play the violin and doesn't seem to notice that she actually cannot play at all, producing ear-splitting sounds. When she was small, her parents asked her if she wanted them to bring her a present, and she asked for a doll, stating later that she only said that because she read in a book that girls liked dolls."
Anri -
"Anri has a lot of trouble connecting with the people around her. She's very silent and reserved, but once she opens up she's extremely sweet and caring. She has very low self-esteem and sees herself as a parasite who only uses people because she's unable to recognize her feelings of love. She sees the world through "picture frames" where everything chaotic is happening inside the frames and she's just watching from outside. When she finally does allow people out of the frames to stand by her side, she gets nervous. She has trouble differentiating platonic and romantic love. She's a member of the main chatroom of the series, where she constantly apologizes when she doesn't have to and feels anxious without her friend Celty around."

Clannad: An Emotional Journey Through Connection and Loss
When I first encountered Clannad, I was transported emotionally in a way that few shows have managed to achieve. The series begins with Tomoya Okazaki, a character who embodies the too-cool-for-school attitude common in the late 90s and early 2000s. He’s standoffish, seemingly indifferent to those around him. Initially, I found him annoying, tuning in more for the drama than any particular…

40 Day Anime Challenge Day 33- An anime you loved but will never watch again: Clannad and Clannad: After Story (2007-2009)
Trigger Warning: Mention of domestic violence
Synopsis (by me): Tomoya Okazaki is a sadboi delinquent with a heart of gold and a tragic backstory who helps a bunch of cute girls and some other friends overcome their tragic backstories. Eventually, he settles down with Nagisa Furukawa, who keeps getting held back for missing school due to chronic illness. In After Story, they face tragedy after tragedy in the adult world. Everyone hurts.

Ok look, I know I talk a lot of shit about Clannad. And the truth is, I really love it; I really do. It’s a fantastic anime with a great story, a whole cast of amazing, fleshed-out characters, beautiful artwork, and so many sweet feels. And I love an anime with good feels. But there are some things that fuck you up so bad you never want to face them again, and Clannad is one of them. That show was like an abusive boyfriend who beats you up and then is super sweet like “baby come back I love you so much” and he makes you forget why you ever wanted to leave and then he beats you again. That’s what Clannad felt like. (And don’t @me for making light of dv; I’m writing about my own past relationships here and if I want to make jokes of my own trauma as a coping mechanism that it my prerogative- not my fault if you didn’t read the trigger warning.) At least with Clannad I had the sense not to go back for more...took a few more mistakes to learn with the boys but I finally did!!!
