Yet despite the enthusiasm from these experts, the Oakridge experiment remains one of the most morally shocking examples of LSD therapy. In 2001, the inmates involved in this program sued Barker, Maier, and the Canadian government for inhumane treatment. In 2021 they won their case. Source

Project MKUltra wasn’t a myth—it was the CIA’s secret program to master mind control in the 1950s. Using LSD, hypnosis, sensory deprivation, and worse, they experimented on unsuspecting people. Declassified files reveal the horrifying extent, but conspiracy whispers say it never truly ended. What hidden truths still lurk in this government cover-up? The Codex of Forbidden Knowledge digs deeper into the dark history."

Tara vs. John: Paul's LSD Experience
One night, after closing time, Paul was back at Eaton Row with a party that included Sir Mark Palmer; Patrick Kerr, the dancer from Ready Steady Go!; and Viv Prince, the drummer with The Pretty Things; as well as a bunch of girls who had become attached to them in the Scotch. Tara was taking acid on blotting paper in the toilet, McCartney remembered in Many Years From Now, and offered him some. McCartney was unsure, but he accepted. According to Nicki, Tara didn’t actually take it that night. ‘Because it was Paul’s first time,’ she said, ‘he felt it was important for him to stay lucid just in case Paul had a bad trip. And what Paul did was he spent his whole trip looking at this art book of mine called Private View. He wasn’t interested in any of the females there. He wasn’t interested in listening to music either. He was just staring at this art book. I wish it had been more fun for him.’ Paul stayed up all night having what he described as a ‘spacy’ experience. He told Barry Miles that he saw paisley shapes and was super-sensitive to the fact that his shirtsleeves were dirty. He had an engagement the following day, but he couldn’t get it together. When Brian Epstein’s secretary tracked him down to Tara and Nicki’s mews, he told her he had flu and asked her to cancel his commitments for the day. John later said he thought Paul regretted taking it. Paul said it was something that he wouldn’t want to have missed but he would always have mixed feelings about what happened in Tara’s house that night. For all his ambivalence about taking acid, it would have a profound effect on him.
—I Read the News Today, Oh Boy, Paul Howard (source)
I was more ready for the drink or a little bit of pot or something. I’d not wanted to do it, I’d held off like a lot of people were trying to, but there was massive peer pressure. And within a band, it’s more than peer pressure, it’s fear pressure. It becomes trebled, more than just your mates, it’s, 'Hey, man, this whole band’s had acid, why are you holding out? What’s the reason, what is it about you?’ So I knew I would have to out of peer pressure alone. And that night I thought, well, this is as good a time as any, so I said, 'Go on then, fine.’ So we all did it. . . . It was such a mind-expanding thing. I saw paisley shapes and weird things, and for a guy who wasn’t that keen on getting that weird, there was a disturbing element to it. I remember looking at my shirtsleeves and seeing they were dirty and not being too pleased with that, whereas normally you wouldn’t even notice. But you noticed and you heard. Everything was supersensitive.
—Paul McCartney, Many Years From Now by Barry Miles (source)
“We stood there for a minute or two, with John swaying gently against my arm. ‘I’m feeling better,’ he announced. Then he looked up at the stars. 'Wow..’ he intoned. 'Look at that! Isn’t that amazing?“ I followed his gaze. The stars did look good but they didn’t look that good. It was very unlike John to be over the top in that way. I stared at him. He was wired-pin-sharp and quivering, resonating away like a human tuning fork. No sooner had John uttered his immortal words about the stars than George and Paul came bursting out on the roof. They had come tearing up from the studio as soon as they found out where we were. They knew why John was feeling unwell. Maybe everyone else did, too - everyone except for father-figure George Martin here! It was very simple. John was tripping on LSD. He had taken it by mistake, they said - he had meant to take an amphetamine tablet. That hardly made any difference, frankly; the fact was that John was only too likely to imagine he could fly, and launch himself off the low parapet that ran around the roof. They had been absolutely terrified that he might do so. I spoke to Paul about this night many years later, and he confirmed that he and George had been shaken rigid when they found out we were up on the roof. They knew John was having a what you might call a bad trip. John didn’t go back to Weybridge that night; Paul took him home to his place, in nearby Cavendish Road. They were intensely close, remember, and Paul would do almost anything for John. So, once they were safe inside, Paul took a tablet of LSD for the first time, 'So I could get with John’ as he put it- be with him in his misery and fear. What about that for friendship?”
—George Martin, Anthology (source) (source)
"I thought, Maybe this is the moment where I should take a trip with him. It’s been coming for a long time. It’s often the best way, without thinking about it too much, just slip into it. John’s on it already, so I’ll sort of catch up. It was my first trip with John, or with any of the guys. We stayed up all night, sat around and hallucinated a lot. Me and John, we’d known each other for a long time. Along with George and Ringo, we were best mates. And we looked into each other’s eyes, the eye contact thing we used to do, which is fairly mind-boggling. You dissolve into each other. But that’s what we did, round about that time, that’s what we did a lot. And it was amazing. You’re looking into each other’s eyes and you would want to look away, but you wouldn’t, and you could see yourself in the other person. It was a very freaky experience and I was totally blown away. There’s something disturbing about it. You ask yourself, 'How do you come back from it? How do you then lead a normal life after that?’ And the answer is, you don’t. After that you’ve got to get trepanned or you’ve got to meditate for the rest of your life. You’ve got to make a decision which way you’re going to go. I would walk out into the garden - 'Oh no, I’ve got to go back in.’ It was very tiring, walking made me very tired, wasted me, always wasted me. But 'I’ve got to do it, for my well-being.’ In the meantime John had been sitting around very enigmatically and I had a big vision of him as a king, the absolute Emperor of Eternity. It was a good trip. It was great but I wanted to go to bed after a while. I’d just had enough after about four or five hours. John was quite amazed that it had struck me in that way. John said, 'Go to bed? You won’t sleep!’ 'I know that, I’ve still got to go to bed.’ I thought, now that’s enough fun and partying, now … It’s like with drink. That’s enough. That was a lot of fun, now I gotta go and sleep this off. But of course you don’t just sleep off an acid trip so I went to bed and hallucinated a lot in bed. I remember Mal coming up and checking that I was all right. 'Yeah, I think so.’ I mean, I could feel every inch of the house, and John seemed like some sort of emperor in control of it all. It was quite strange. Of course he was just sitting there, very inscrutably.”
—Paul McCartney, Many Years From Now by Barry Miles (source) (source)
Paul and Mal Evans came to stay with us somewhere in the late spring of 1967. (…) Paul and Mal, this time, were full of tales of this here LSD and what it could do. Unrecognisable psyches on familiar heads and shoulders: the voice was Paul’s but the tone was … God’s? Paul said he and John had had ‘this fantastic thing’; which really wasn’t very informative, so I pressed him to flesh it out. ‘Incredible, really, just locked into each other’s eyes … Like, just staring and then saying, “I know, man” and then laughing … And it was great , you know.’ … Realising he wasn’t getting through, Paul said, ‘You’ll just have to try it.
—Derek Taylor, Fifty Years Adrift, 1983. (source)
“When I came back after five months, Paul had changed so much. He was on LSD which I hadn’t shared. I was jealous of the spiritual experiences he’d had with John.”
—Jane Asher, The Beatles Hunter Davies. (source)

Sex pollen fic but the characters do it recreationally, like psychedelics
(any number of participants, could be poly)
There's one sober person who ensures everyone gets a good experience
Someone complains about it not working right before the effect hits
The pollenned person gets a lecture on what they should expect
There's That One Scientist who documents everything and loudly announces which region of their brain is shutting down currently
Food is prepared in advance and it's honestly the best part of the experience
There's generally a Procedure and a Culture around it
The pollenned person gets handed sleeping pills if it's a bad trip
I unironically think it could be such a lovely setting for a very sweet and awkward kind of intimacy
#I'm currently living in a country where psylocybin mushrooms and other mild things are legal#so my lab's welcoming ritual is to feed newcomers mushrooms (you can refuse but it's offered and people normally accept)#(things you didn't want to know about scientists)#and while I found the experience itself somewhat underwhelming#the culture around it is very sweet#and I think it should be captured somewhere#also we have a mathematician in our lab who didn't react to a double dose of lsd#he just has this level of control over his own mind#lsd doesn't work on him#and I'm fascinated by it

Old memories, but maybe, not her memories? Is that why El doesn't remember the past and is always associated with being new? But if that's true, whose memories they made her relive? Sarah's? Will's? The real Jane's? Imagine if the real Jane is the girl we know as Sarah. There are so many connections and parallels between those kids, that I'm not ruling out anything.
The second screenshot is from Quantum Leap, a tv show about a scientist who becomes lost in time, swapping places lives with different people in different times.
I find it interesting that behind El we see Two, and that it's Two who bullies her. Maybe a hint that we're seeing the battle between two realities? 11 as two ones? (and 22 is twice eleven)
In S2, they call both El and Will schizos, and when Axel says it and tries to pick up his knife, it's pointing to the number 2.
We've also seen people being possessed and becoming someone else so, El being the combination of two different people, the body of one child and the memories and life of another, is not too crazy.

ok my second dose of nasal spray ketamine is in effect (and please understand ketamine as a....VERY wildly intense fucking drug like i CANNOT emphasize that enough) and boy that saw RPF is hitting HARD. like dude i've got my faaaavorite fucking indian food leftovers in front of me as we speak but. you'll NEVER guess what i'm focusing on and thinking about rn crazy nasty psychedelic style and uhhhhhhhhhh not to suggest anything or put my drugged ass on blast but boy would i welcome any commentary on that shameful shit. peace love and taco grease. if you need me i'll be in outer fucking space apparently i guess
#quick disclaimer ketamine is fr not at all like an lsd (or similar) psychedelic experience at all but there is....nothing to compare it to?#it is apparently a drug specifically engineered to work as both a very good antidepressant AND saw RPF instigator#ketaposting#please blacklist that tag for your own sake

aster rambles on about "LSD Dream Emulator"
this is a biggun, mandatory read-more below! sheesh!
have you ever heard of the former video-game streamer, azuritereaction?
he was a kinda lower-key figure in YouTube's let's play scene around 10+ years ago, but he made hella rounds being one of the first people to play this, really mysterious japan-only interactive experience for the PlayStation,
"LSD Dream Emulator."
youtube
*i really miss when let's plays were like this, for the record.
even within the first part is a lot to take in, for the viewer and also for the player! poor azzy was terrified of this game the entire time he played it on and off-stream. not sure where he is now... i kinda wish he didn't describe the game like he did in around the beginning. there's a lot of details he got wrong, but it's whatever.
anyway, my first seeing this game was pretty non-chalant. i was around 9 years old, was looking for games similar to Yume Nikki (eldest sibling put me onto that), discovered this. hearing azuritereaction talk about the background of the game while the opening FMV played imprinted on me so hard.
the vids in this game are generally so damn fun to watch, i've never seen a game ever try and pull off aesthetics like LSD:DE does.
flashing images warning for the video below.
youtube
there's a lot i could focus on regarding breaking down how the game functions and works (dictating mostly just from the wiki page dedicated to LSD:DE, a lot has been uncovered and put on there) and other aspects to the game itself, but the focus of this post for the most part is for me to go on about how this game changed my mind about how art works on a fundamental level.
anyway,
i learned, art doesn't have to have meaning.
i was 9-10 when i figured that out, too! i didn't have "astroblur" as a proper project (in a preliminary, differently named form) but the drive, the motivation to create art for the sake of it was born, sprouted from what was once just me looking at yet another lets play on an earlier version of YouTube.
well, it was LSD:DE and hella of those pictures that'd come up if you googled "Abstract Wallpaper" like 10+ years ago. LSD:DE is moreso a subtle influence on my work regarding my mindset (i'd say i'm more outright inspired by Phosfiend's game "FRACT OSC") but i consider it extremely important to me figuring out that i could quite literally just do whatever, make it look cool and BAM! new art to show to people!!!
i just loved surrealism, and this game was full of it, especially considering in-game events that could occur. one of my favorites is what plays when you interact with the ferris wheel in the "HAPPYTOWN" level.
youtube
(song's called Fried Banana, by Osamu Sato. fun fact)
my relationship with visual art and penchant for interactive art was born. i to this day cite LSD:DE as a strong influence regarding my general ethos regarding just throwing cool looking shit at the screen... i really do wanna try to pull off PS1-type graphics with the 3D software i use but i think it won't be easy.
i initially kinda wanted to go on a hunt for weird art from wherever (i guess mostly Japan cause i sure was weeby even as a kid) and i to this Day dream of making an interactive artpiece like how LSD:DE is intended to be. one day ... i'm glad i'd be contributing to an already-existing pool of LSD-likes scattered throughout the interwebs. this game absolutely deserves its cult following.
speaking of, it was news to me (but still somehow not that surprising) that Mr. Sato's intent with this game was for it to be interactive art versus a video game. i heard that he got the idea for LSD:DE while playing a racing game in which he crashed. he liked the idea of the game, progressing and changing, putting you somewhere else, instead of Ending right then and there. this ties into how the game works regarding interacting with objects or the world to be teleported somewhere else (it's called "linking" in game.) LSD:DE doesn't even "end" like how video games generally do, it plays a special ending new years eve FMV and starts you right back at Day 1. there's something profound to me about having an experience like this technically never end.
so incredibly ambitious to have this idea and for it to be executed on PS1 instead of like PC... there IS a PC remake of LSD:DE by Figglewatts called LSD Revamped but that's a whole other tangent.
i'm kinda rambling on and on (i titled the post that after realizing i would just be going on about this game) but i love LSD:DE a lot. one of my favorite aspects of it is how random the game truly is-if you got a bunch of friends to play LSD:DE for like one night and then you guys regrouped a day later, all of your experiences would be pretty different regarding what you saw and how your dream generally played out. between the fact that the game doesn't really end and the RNG regarding so many aspects to how your dreams play out, i... i'm just, shocked. even beyond it being inspiring to me, LSD:DE just blows me away every time i even think about it.
i owe a lot to it.
...
yeah this is definitely just a ramble thing. LOL. i'll put it up anyway i think it's a nice read. ~ A_DX

HOTCH: He chose LSD for a reason. LSD is about altering perception. We think that this unsub is striking out because he feels that he's been inaccurately perceived by the community or a subset of it.
1.13, Poison
the pseudoscience is really grating on me rn. u just made that up!
#like. that's a big leap in logic that LSD = the unsub wants others to experience false perceptions bc he is falsely perceived#how did u get there???#1.13#q

Kevin & Charlie watching Lucifer wreck shop at a video game (bonus points if it’s a video game you’re not supposed to be able to “win” like Minecraft or Stardew)
Even Lucifer's laptop (old, runs while making a funny whirring noise, probably stolen from Sam) can run Minecraft, provided the settings are low and his grace keeps it from overheating, so Charlie sets him up and lets him loose, taking advantage of his distraction to use him as a pillow as she curls up on the end of the couch and props her own computer against her stomach to challenge herself with Kaizo levels.
She loses track of time until Kevin passes by, peeks over their shoulders to snort at Charlie killing Mario (Only death 247 on this ROM!) and then say, "Holy shit," as he looks at Lucifer's screen. Charlie, curiosity piqued, tilts her head just as Lucifer says, "Mammoth Cave," as though it's completely normal to create a 1-to-1 recreation of the largest cave system in America for Minecraft Steve to crawl through.
