Alright Tumblr,, I've been cooking up stuff for my LBFP au!! I'm not gonna go into FULL DETAILS YET,, BUT I'VE BEEN COOKING THINGS UP IN THE SERVER,, and I'm redesigning the characters that had their concept designs done and making refs for those who didn't have them before!! I've been cooking up a storm of ideas for the setting and stuff uhmm and MORE character IDEASS!! FINALLY!!
I ALSO FINALLY HAVE A LOGO CONCEPT FOR THE TITLE!!
MORE STUFF UNDER THE CUT!!!!!!!
(tw for mention of DRUGS ig)
(THESE ARE WIPS!!)

The whole LBFP universe will be almost like Hollywood/Vagas/New York themed all mashed together and is set in the 1950-60's era wise.. It's set in a bright colorful city (doesn't have an official name yet) with bright colorful signs and advertisements..
Examples of what I'm talking about:

But this city has dark secrets and LOTS of pollution problems, mainly from the Factory Of A Better Tomorrow that produces mostly cars and other vehicles/transportation and mechanical stuff (it's a big corporation??) ig, they also have a huge homeless problem because of JACKED and unfair prices
Marlon is a big character but he won't be the main focus because I have to learn to not be BIASED *sighh* but he's heavily based off Elvis Presley, since he's jacked up on drugs and shit.. The city is famous BECAUSE of the famous people and big companies within the city Oculus is also another famous singer/dancer that's in competition with Marlon..
Anyhootles thatss all I'm giving away for the time being..
Stay tuned for more I guess??

literally just looking at various potential research labs for grad school and my brain has the audacity to give me the “fucking up the protein purification in front of everyone so badly they all think I’m an idiot” nightmare again
#haven’t had that bad boy since I left my research tech job#to be fair I’m p sure I’m the only person in the labs I’m looking at that has ever even purified a protein#like. of the labs I’m looking at the only wet labs are somewhere that doesn’t have the equipment on site#the others aren’t wet labs at all#but it is funny bc I was talking to a potential PI and she mentioned a problem that I could consider working on and my brain was like. well#this is prob best approached by enzyme activity assays#and I’m p sure this guy can’t be assayed in vivo#so. protein purification for in vitro testing?#but I HATE PURIFICATION.#and also literally if I wanted to do it I’d have to go to the other campus that has the centrifuges and liquid nitrogen!!!!!#which is fucking bizarre to me bc I worked somewhere where those things were standard#the university doesn’t even have an fplc……….#they simply don’t do that shit. which is kinda the point bc I don’t like that shit#and YET#somehow this specific problem offered to me as a potential thesis activates my sleeper agent purification brain#maybe if I were purifying my Own proteins for my Own assay to answer my Own questions……….#like. I wanna study evolution and genes!!!!!!#but if your genes keep having similar deletions in a protein under a certain condition I wanna know why????????#is it loss of function????? and if it’s not how is it changing function???????? how is it benefiting the organism?????#I was like okay well. have you tried knockouts of wild type and subbing in just this mutation#and PI was like /: we try to avoid knockouts bc expensive#and I realized how spoiled I have been bc I was in a lab where we already had and could afford knockouts and double knockouts#like oh you wanna study this gene? wanna sub in a modified version?#cool let’s order primers we have the knockouts you can put it on whatever plasmid expression system you want#that said. we did not have a plate reader or easy access to genotyping esp expression mass spec so#pros and cons. they do different stuff that they are set up for#but also apparently during Covid the prof that studies malaria literally used his own blood bc he couldn’t afford to source it#which. honestly given current events it’s good to know everyone already can buckle their belts and run a lab on two cents and fellowships#456 words#lab tag

Key Factors to Consider While Picking a Lab Centrifuge
Choosing the appropriate centrifuge for your laboratory can make all the difference when it comes to yielding good efficiency, dependability, and suitability for various applications. In this guide, we outline the key consideration factors that would help you make informed choices as you pick the right centrifuge for your needs.
Understanding Centrifuges and Their Role in the Lab
A lab centrifuge becomes indispensable in those laboratories where the separation of fluids, gasses, or liquids, based on density, becomes necessary. Various models of centrifuges are used in the laboratory, starting with blood, DNA, RNA, or other cellular components separations. The correct model will depend on your specific application, throughput, and long-term requirements.
Neuation offers a range of models with the aim of solving diversified laboratory needs, namely,
iFuge CS2P NXT
iFuge FX2P
iFuge L1000
iFuge L400 NXT
iFuge L400P
Below are the key factors to consider when picking the perfect centrifuge for your lab:
1. Type of Samples
Different centrifuges are optimized for specific sample types. Blood, DNA, RNA, and other biological materials may require varying speeds, rotor configurations, and temperature controls. Identifying your sample types will guide you in choosing the right model. For example, high-speed centrifuges are typically needed for molecular biology applications, whereas clinical labs may prefer low-speed models for blood sample separation.
2. Volume and Throughput
The main factor for consideration should be the volume and the number of samples you will be processing at any one time. Some centrifuges are designed for smaller volumes but at high throughput, whereas others handle larger volumes with a limited number of samples to be processed at one time. The iFuge L1000, for example, offers a large capacity of 4 x 250 mL for laboratories dealing in bulk sample processing.
3. Rotor Types
Centrifuge rotors are highly variable concerning the type of sample that one intends to process and the required application. The main types of rotors include:
Fixed-Angle Rotators: Can be operated at high speeds for faster separation of samples, thus generally used in units such as iFuge FX2P.
Buckets on swing-out rotors: Buckets on swing-out rotors work satisfactorily for applications that involve sedimentation and gradient separation. Models accommodating such include iFuge CS2P NXT and iFuge L1000.
Specialized Rotors: These are designed for specific tasks, such as cell culture or microplate centrifugation.
4. Maximum Speed and RCF
The centrifuge speed, conventionally measured in RPM, and the RCF are critical in such separations. The applications will fall into one category or another based on the speed and the RCF of a centrifuge, enabling its functionality in sample separations. As an example, the iFuge FX2P is for very demanding applications because of its unusually high maximum speed of 20,000 RPM at an RCF of 28,000g.
5. Refrigerated vs. Non-Refrigerated
For sensitive, temperature-dependent samples, a refrigerated centrifuge is required. Models include the iFuge CS2P NXT and the iFuge L1000, which boast of refrigeration that ensures sensitive samples are protected even on extended centrifugation. Variants, without refrigeration, include types like the iFuge L400P, best used when the separation of samples is rather basic, where temperature control is not of major concern.

6. Imbalance Detection and Lid Lock Features
Safety is the most important feature of any laboratory equipment. The presence of features like imbalance detection and secure lid locking prevents an accident in centrifugation. This, along with all other models in the Neuation series including iFuge CS2P NXT and iFuge FX2P has imbalance detection and lid locks that ensure safe operation of these.
7. Space Considerations
For space-saving without giving up performance, compact models include the iFuge L400 NXT and the iFuge CS2P NXT. These could be a good option for space-constrained laboratories, while major equipment such as the iFuge L1000 would be better suited to bigger laboratories.
8. User Interface and Ease of Maintenance
Centrifuges with user-friendly interfaces also minimize the learning curve for laboratory technicians and ensure smooth operation. In that regard, the iFuge FX2P and iFuge CS2P NXT models allow for intuitive digital setting of parameters with ease. Besides, ease of maintenance will be a factor to consider in ensuring long-term performance and cost efficiency.
9. Cost-Efficiency and After-Sales Support
Balancing performance with cost efficiency is relevantly important at a purchase decision. The iFuge L400 NXT and the iFuge L400P strike a reasonable balance between cost and performance; hence, these are excellent choices for labs with constrained budgets. Besides, a centrifuge from a reputable brand like Neuation assures one of reliable after-sales support in regard to maintenance, repairs, and calibration.
Sample type, throughput, rotor type, speed, refrigeration, and general safety features are considerations that will go into a purchasing decision when it comes to a lab centrifuge. For each of these requirements, Neuation, a brand of Accumax, has an extensive range of centrifuges. Be it high-volume processing, sensitive biological samples, or budget-friendly options, Accumax provides your laboratory with specific needs-oriented centrifuges with precision and reliability.

a quick comparison of a comparison I'd done last month (19-Apr-24) while getting back into the knack of drawing my guy
#my art#my ocs#personal#cos here comes the tag ramblings#people following me not knowing that this OC showing up in my art was created for an original verse back in 2014#an ancient artefact of my highschool self who's grown with me#he doesn't get to be a savant on medical sciences without some kind of draw back now#if I don't get to know everything there is to know about all aspects of medicine he doesn't either#suffer the need to refer back to books and reference guides to make sure you're correct#having him back as a muse got part of me itching to go back to uni AGAIN only this time for medsci... but my GPA is too shit#max gpa in nz (all A+) is a 9.0 and to go into med as a grad you need min 6.0#and my cumulative after 2 degrees is... 4.9 >:|#I think my sheer determination to slam my head against the wall for 7 straight years while refusing to get medicated for anything should-#-merit special justification for entrance but that's just me haha#A better path for me would probably be gaining qualification in medical laboratory science - as despite being a lab tech-#-I am not positioned for the analysis n interpretation of samples for diagnosis but I'd like to#mostly I just isolate PBMCs and stand in the blast zone of 7 centrifuges almost as old as me#I find a lot of purpose in my grunt work... but it'd be nice to have a more direct understanding#but I know myself and I know I can't study and work at the same time- but hey... I could surprise myself#oc: JS Antyllus
