Ok so, here is another one. This is a little bit different from what I usually write or even like reading, but alas, sometimes an idea just enters your brain and just doesn't leave. Also this one has a title ig. So here it is. I hope you'll like it. Enjoy 💜

Lance was so full of adrenaline he almost dropped the mic. He was shaking from head to toe, but there was a huge grin on his face.

There was no sadness, because even if this was the last concert of the tour, it had been one of his best ones like, ever.

Also he was home, so he knew that after all the crazy partying he would do tonight, tomorrow he'd meet his sister, he'd go to that bakery that sells the best cupcakes, and he'd be able to roam the streets with his thick glasses and ugly beanie and scarf combos, and no one would recognise him.

But still, that's tomorrow. In that moment, there was the encore.

It was always different, so it was always special, but that day even more so. It was composed of three of his older songs, about pain and heartache and moving on despite the past, maybe in spite of it. He loved it very much. Because he was home, singing his first hits and he was ending one of the happiest and saddest tours of his life.

It had started great, new album, in love and energetic. Then he was left behind, alone and with nothing to show for it. Because it had to stay a secret. He had to keep his love secret. He had had no one to complain to, because the only people who knew would have been put in an uncomfortable situation, and he didn't want that. So he hid his hurt and did what he always did. He put it in his music. He sang his pain until the only hurt he could feel was the one in his throat.

It really had been a rollercoaster. But now it was the end, everything was better, and he wanted to send a last fuck you. He may have matured, but nothing would make him lose his pettiness.

So he sang.

It's a lie, but I say it anyhow

He put every single emotion into these songs, and finally let them go.

When the crowd roared, it all exploded.

He felt a solitary tear wet his face, but nothing could have stolen his smile. He waited for his band, then bowed and left the stage.

The night was young and he was feeling free and wild. And quite hungry, actually.

So he took his band to his favourite pub. They ate, and drank, and ate some more.

On the taxi towards his house, Lance realised that, no matter how much it had hurt, he didn't regret having what he had with Fernando.

Even the tears, even the heartbreak, they all shaped the person he was today.

He liked to think he was loyal, and dependable and kind. But most importantly, he liked to think he was better than the person he was yesterday.

His house appeared, and after paying and tipping the taxi driver, he opened the door.

Yeah, it was big and a little bit empty and a little bit cold. A little bit like his heart. But it was something to be proud of, because it was his, and he was working on it.

The next day he really started to rethink all of this rock star thing.

His head pounded with his heartbeat and his mouth tasted rancid.

He got up and drank some water, downing a couple of aspirins for his headache.

After the shower he felt somewhat normal, and decided to go out for breakfast.

He reached his favourite bakery and ordered two pastries to go. He wanted to retreat and lay warmly in front of the fireplace.

Lance noticed him as soon as he stepped out, but he decided to ignore him. His house wasn't that far, he could reach it quickly and without having to talk to him. For once, he wanted to thank whoever made him with long legs.

But even if he could go fast without running, so could the other.

They walked in silence, side by side, for a few minutes.

When the silence and the presence were getting to him, he abruptly stopped and turned towards the other man.

"What do you want?"

Fernando didn't deserve kindness nor gentleness. He forfeited those when he left Lance. Via text. Without explanation and blocking him immediately after.

Lance had spent too many days crying; now he wanted nothing to do with the man.

"Hello Lance. Was just around" he said, as if it explained why he was in Canada and not in England, in Monaco, hell even at home in Spain.

Lance huffed and started moving again, having had more than enough, but stopped when he felt a firm grip on his wrist.

He stared at the hand on his arm with wide eyes, before raising them to Nando's face.

"You have three seconds to either take your hand off or have it broken" he said shakily.

There must have been something in his voice that made the threat a real one, because suddenly he was free again.

"Lance, am sor..." Nando started.

"Shut up before I make you. We can't discuss here, someone could recognise you. Come to my house" surely not his finest moment, but all Lance could feel was fury. Still, he wasn't raising his voice, so he could consider it a win.

you are still protecting him, Este's voice said in his mind.

shut up, of course I am, but what else could he do?

They arrived at his house. He quickly opened the door and closed it when Fernando got in.

"You have no right to come here with your flimsy excuse and expect me to be ok with it. Now, tell me what you want and get the hell out of my house" there, simple and direct.

For a moment, Fernando seemed seriously sorry. But Lance didn't care. He was the one left behind, the one who had to pick up his pieces when he fell apart. He healed as best as he could, and he would not apologise for building up his defences.

"Lance, I am really sorry, for what's worth. I want to explain"

"You are a few months too late. At this point, I don't even know if I care. I only ever asked one thing, Alonso. One. I was ok with being kept a secret, and avoiding being seen together, and the distance. I only asked you to openly communicate and shit like that. You just left without a word" now that he had started, he couldn't seem to stop.

"You knew, I told you why I wanted that. Why I needed you to be honest and open, yet you just disappeared. I had to ask Este, who had to ask Mick. And for what. To be told that you had a new model girlfriend? So no, Alonso, I don't care anymore. It would just reopen old wounds. Now go, I'm sure you have somewhere else to be"

and someone else to be with, it wasn't said but both could hear it.

"That's not right. I have nowhere to go. Am alone, Lance" he said, something hurt and teary in his voice.

Lance was about to replicate, sharp words already on the tip of his tongue, when something in Nando's expression made him stop. His eyes showed how open he was being, how vulnerable.

Lance sighed, and led the man into the living room, making him sit on the couch, while he went into the kitchen and brought back two glasses of water. He would have preferred something stronger, but this felt too important of a moment to have it tainted by alcohol and not being in the right mind.

He sat on the opposite side of the couch, and waited for the other to start talking.

"First of all, am sorry, really. I knew it would hurt you, how I left you, but I did it anyway. And I know you have no reason to believe me or care. Am here because I believe you deserve the truth about everything"

He seemed honest, but Lance wouldn't trust him so easily, not again.

"What are you hoping for with your confession months later, mh? I'm not going to obediently come back to you, waiting to be heartbroken again. You're not gonna fuck me and leave, either. So, what do you want?" he was probably being unfair to the other man, but anger and confusion had never been a good mix of emotions for him.

"Lance, I would never..."

"Like you would never leave, Alonso? Don't make promises you can't keep and don't say things you don't mean" he interrupted, harsh and stubborn.

"You are right. I made promises and then I broke them and betrayed your trust. But I need you to know I had reasons. Not perfect, not good, but I had them" and goddamnit, Lance could feel himself beginning to soften.

just listen to him, said his conscience, suspiciously sounding like Mick.

"Would you care to explain them?" Was he being sarcastic or curious? He himself didn't know.

"Of course. Someone was starting to notice some...changes in me. I was happier, nicer, smiled more. Someone I don't like said something in a way I didn't like. Made me understand that he knew something was up, and would ruin me. So I decided that I needed to protect myself, to protect you. Left you because I couldn't see you. I knew I'm not strong enough to leave you if I saw you"

It all sounded logical, from a certain point of view, but Lance knew there was more, so he waited for the other to continue.

After a few seconds, Fernando raised his eyes, looking at Lance, before turning them down again.

"I didn't like the weakness. All the time, I was thinking about you, wanted you near. It was too much. So I thought I could just stay away, and forget about it"

about you, was left unsaid.

"And can you? Forget about it?" Lance not only wanted to know. He needed to, before going on with the conversation. He could feel his hands beginning to shake and his eyes starting to water, but he had to be sure.

Fernando immediately raised his eyes, and spoke with a tone determined and something like hope in his eyes.

"Of course I can't. I'm here right now, begging for a second chance" he said pleadingly.

"Then beg" Lance said, not meanly, but he also wasn't feeling particularly charitable, and it was better to make some things clear from the beginning: he wasn't going to repeat the same mistakes. He wasn't the young man staring at his teen crush, starry eyed and in love and grateful for every scrap of attention and affection. He was older, maybe a little bit more bitter, a little bit wiser. Fernando left some marks onto his heart, and he wasn't going to refresh them for nothing less than certainty.

"Lance, please give me another chance. I know I fucked up, was so wrong. I'm begging you, let me fix this. However long it takes, is ok. Just, tell me you'll think about forgiving me, and starting again" he was being so earnest, how could Lance resist?

"Even if I forgive you, and it's a big if, I'm not going to forget anytime soon, ok? I'll need time and space and for you to make an effort" he really was weak for this man, but who could blame him, he spent half his childhood idolizing him and then he met him and fell in love.

"Will do whatever it takes. But let me, please"

Realising all the air stuck in his lungs, Lance sighed.

"Ok"

He didn't even finish the word that Fernando picked him up and spun Lance around, making him laugh despite himself.

Fernando finally put him down, and took his hand to kiss it, maintaining the eye contact for a few seconds.

Lance could feel himself blushing, and quickly shook his head, still smiling.

After a few seconds of just getting reacquainted with one another, Fernando broke the silence.

"I liked the show yesterday. Especially the encore"

And now Lance was definitely blushing. His encore had been designed as a way of finally letting go, one last screw you to the man now in front of him. But he couldn't say that to him, even if it was pretty clear.

It would have been childish to throw shades at Fernando in one of his concerts, no?

"Yeah, I was inspired, I guess" his smile smaller but still there.

"Fuck the guy who made you suffer, the bastard" and in his jokingly way, Nando was telling him that he wasn't angry, and that they would be ok.

"Yeah, fuck him"

Keep in mind there is never any year stated for anything (i mean except if i missed something) but given that this works out very well with the game releases im gonna stick to that. Otherwise all years references could be shifted up or down potentially. The timespan between all things and the month and day dates should defintly be correct.

[5] - I didnt write down all the Pokemon Leagues in this, but i think its fun to note that there was (if they never changed the shedule) held a league in the summer Red was born.

[6] - Basing this mostly on the fact that Oak implied in Chapter 39 that Blue was already in Johto when Green was kidnapped. I guess that line could be interpreted some other way as well.

[7] - If you assume a) the league is held every year around the same time (for the 21.7 date) and b) use Reds age from RS as Canon (for the 8.8. date))

[8] - Going exclusively by vibes. I would put it in between Yellows Birtday and Greens. Also like that one magazine idk says green is still 13 in this. I sometimes ignore that if its possible that people have their birthday within the time of the Arc, but thats the best i have for the Yellow Arc. -> between March and June

[9] - Technically it says in FRLG that Yellow is already 14, but Emerald Arc Says FRLG Arc was 6 Months ago and i think. March would not count at that anymore. But i guess you could do that however you want and put FRLG after Yellows Birthday.

[10] - Age taken from game canon.

[11] - I used to have a reasonong why he had to be born in late 1983, but i forgot what it was. will change it back when i remember again.

[12] - The guide says Green is in GSC 14, which does not work because the ending has to be after Golds Birthday and Greens Birthday is earlier. And even though Green only shows up within the last very few days of plot i jsut take that to mean that when the arc starts she would still be 14 even if she is not yet here physically.

[13] Similar reasoning as in [7].

[14] During XY it was implied that Ruby, Saphire and Emerald already got their mega stones, so assumingly XY and ORAS are rather close if not even potentially overlapping some... Setting both between September of 2005 and June of 2006.

Add. 1: X and Ys Birthday cant be said exactly because they only appear in the XY Arc and that one is not exactly enough dateable to say if they already had their birthday that year or not. So I just went with the 2 dates that are the most probably (as in build the biggest window of time for XY to take place with their ages correct.) Accordingly X could also be potentially be born a year later (== 6.11.1993) OR Y could be born a year earlier (== 2.2.1992). (Exclusive OR not both things similtanously)(hehehe you could say XOR)

Add. 2: Technically i know Golds age does not match always how it should be, but the official golds age do not match how time works anyway, so i ignored it. Only counted for gold in text age statements. I also had to use Golds age for a lot of things here, thus, things like the RGB Arc and the GSC Arc could end some weeks earlier if you choose to make him older.

(Valid options for making Gold older i guess are making him one year older (born in 1988), or two years older (born in 1987). These two + the option i went with give results conflicting with some other statements here, so do what you want.) (If you think Gold is born in 1988 then both the RGB and the GSC Arcs end between ~Mid May and Mid July. Again look at [7] + Kris Age stated in Volume 12)

Add. 3: The only time in RGB when every span of time was mentioned (beside everytime when we know a new day has started) is in chapter 12, when we hear that blue went missing 2 weeks ago. The last time we, the reader saw him, was in chapter 5. However that was back in Pewter City and he needed to get to Lavender Town in the timespan. The time blue took to travel between Pewter and Lavender will be shortened to t_B in the following.

So the time span between chapter 5 and chapter 12 is: t_B + 14d

If we assume the time passes on average between the chapters equally we get for the whole rgb arc: (t_B + 14d) * (40/7)

For a minimum value for the rgb arc if we set t_B to 0, it results in a littpe bit under 3 months, coincidentally matching the minimum time in my other way of thought.

To now estimate t_B i counted the days between these chapters in which Red was busy with plot points Blue was probably allowed to skip. I estimated at least 4 days for the Misty Plot, 1 day for Bill, 2 days for the Team Rocket plot, and 0 days for the snorlax plot. Which results in around 7 days.

Now, factoring in that red was still 14 days after blue in lavender town, red spend at least the ~7 other days traveling. While the math does not work exactly here of course, i just assume blues travel time was also around ~7 days at least. To fix the math problems i just assume 7 days is the average traveltime one would need from pewter to lavender.

Using this in the formula we result in a average length for the rgb arc of 4 months. Compare to the minumum timespan of a bit under 3 months, and the non existend maximum timespan. Also looking at hoe many assumptions and estimations we had to do here, additionally to the fact that neither Kusaka nor Mato probably thought much when they wrote that 2 weeks line. Honestly do whatever you want.

I did not fact check anything in here except Emeralds Birthday. I wrote most of this on the train on my way to uni, because i had nothing better to do and just what i remembered spontanous at that moment. I do think however that i am correct. I might have made math errors.

My before mentioned other way of thought, which also gave me a 3 months span, was comparing it to the length of the RS arc. This takes place for 80 days and implied that this is a fast time to travel the whole region and doing the gyms. While no one of the rgb Protagonists actually got all badges, i still would say it would have taken them longer than that. And it fits to my first math.

New Nightmare Poly just dropped.

I feel like that's oil and water. Lance is going to be pissed about Giovanni's bad parenting and romance techniques. Giovanni is going to be pissy that Lance has earned Silver's respect (and he can't get it back). Also, him interfering with his plans. They'd also argue over league related things (lest we forget Giovanni was a Gym Leader).

How would you rank the Pokemon champions and villain bosses?

1) N: The most written character in all of Pokémon.

2) Guzma: Nothing in Pokémon made me feel things as much as first visiting Po Town did. That plus his background tidbits form a very sympathetic loser I care for a lot.

3) Lusamine: The tragedy of her family is delightful on all of its members, but Lusamine is certainly the weakest link to it due to being more of a perpetrator than a victim. I also love both of her designs, with her Nihilego form being easily the second-best-looking Pokémon woman, behind on Valerie.

4) Maxie and Archie: Accidental comedy duo. Their goals are stupid in the most endearing and memeable ways, and their reactions to the consequences of their actions somehow still manage to be a resonating moment. Ranking them separately is silly, but if I had to, Maxie is the best for his general pretentiousness, inside jokes, and being the Jouji voice in Master Sex.

5) Blue: The rival becoming the Champion for 5 minutes is a perfect endpoint of a rival arc and every one of Blue's successors, even the ones that are better characters than him, suffer from not being the one who pulled this off. Raticate-based content is also often good.

6) Alder: A cool design can carry you a long way. Seriously, he nails the wandering monk aesthetic so neatly. Volcarona, Reuniclus, and Chandelure are also sublime picks. And I love how his contributions to the plot are meaningful advice rather than the more distant and professional company that Wallace and Cynthia offer.

7) Rose: Funny anxiety man, arguably cuter and more memeable than the Hoenn villains, only lower than them because of how messily the Galar finale is delivered. Immense bonus points for his part as an accessory to Bede's character.

8) Wallace: Like with Alder, a cool design can carry you a long way. Milotic as an ace is also an immense plus. I suppose Emerald also makes him useful, but if that was a major factor, Cynthia would have been a lot higher.

10) Lance: Having the second-to-last boss become a sequel final boss always has a big feeling of downgrade, but that's offset well enough by making him cool in the Red Gyarados arc and his relationship with Clair.

11) Cynthia: Infodump character for Sinnoh mythology, which is not nearly as interesting as it should have been. Gets some points for the generally great choices of Pokémon and for actually feeling powerful in gameplay.

12) Kukui: Funny professor with a lot of presence but none very memorable. Being the Champion fight, and a surprisingly challenging one, is a big shock, but nothing really amazing on further thought.

13) Archer: Pathetic underling, therefore immediately more interesting than his nothingburger boss.

14) Leon: Dude that game insistently tries to sell as cool but never actually gets to be cool. Only above Steven because he's the one who gets to make the poignant commentaries on Sword/Shield's themes and because he's genuinely good as an accessory to Hop's arc.

15) Steven: Generic champion that never gets to be interesting, but gets points for only having cool Pokémon in his team.

16) Cyrus: Gets points for being memeable but not enough to compensate for how unfun his actual character is. Being soulless by design doesn't make it meaningful when the Sinnoh games are not saying anything about emotion.

17) Ghetsis: Plot device to make N innocent. Only above Giovanni because I like some Pokémon in his team.

18) Giovanni: Just a yakuza boss without any fun projects. The Gym Leader twist was a wow thing on the first run but never amounts to anything, like with Kukui being the Champion fight. Did he ever interact with Silver? Not in anything I played, I think.

19) Diantha: Has the bare minimum story presence and doesn't even use it well.

20) Lysandre: Has one of the stupidest villain plans, made even more ridiculous by the version differences between X and Y, but his aesthetic and delivery are so bad that it manages to make it not funny.

cynthia is cogita's grandkid! her parents weren't present so cogita raised her until, of course, she got disowned for the whole trying to destroy the world thing. cogita sadly passed away before they could truly reconcile.

while there is no canon ancestor to iris, i think its fun to say that cynthia met iris' ancestor and they had kids and 200 years or something later, iris exists and cynthia gets to meet her great great great great grandchild or something. we'll come back to iris in a minute :)

i also think that lusamine also decended from cynthia, which means gladion and lillie also are related to cynthia! not that its important but you know. giant family.

i think mars and cynthia have the biggest family trees. anyway mars' was the first one that i did incase that wasn't obvious lmfao, but anyway, lets get into it!!!

arezu is ariana's great (x?) grandmother. ariana had a spouse that she had mars (maria at the time) with, but then she left them once she was like 'oh shoot im having silver!!!', so mars is vaguely aware that silver exists somewhere out there but she has no clue who he is otherwise. and then ariana and giovanni are married and had silver, who has no idea who mars is (he'd probably go through a crisis if he looked at sinnoh news, so lets keep it that way). silv and mars have a 9 year age gap btw just throwing that out there

silver found a new dad (lance) and some really weird teenagers about his age who he got stuck with. he's dating one of them. you have to guess. (i already know which one but im leaving it up to the mind bc silver isnt the focus in this au so imagine whatever you want).

i grouped these two together since they've got the smallest family trees.

saturn is (obviously) a decendant of coin, but he has no contact with his family and hasn't spoken to them in years by the time pokemon platinum takes place.

jupiter and fantina are siblings (fantina is older by a few solid years) but they really don't like eachother. they have little contact with eachother and dont exactly speak often. but they do wish eachother happy birthday sometimes so thats a plusside i guess.

I plan on making an expansive version sometime in the future but here's a rough shot placement of how I rank the generations-

9- Gen 6. Pokemon is at its best when it goes for both story and gameplay as one complete package than two seperate things. X and Y doesn't push either one with pretty bland gameplay (with the exception of Super Training) and a bland to bad story (I cannot name a single thing about the rivals, the team is as bland as Gen 1 Rocket with nonsensical motivations without the Gen 1 excuse and the Champion exists). Aegislash is rad as hell though. Megas are a mixed bag- why does Mega Garchomp exist?

8- Gen 1. Obvious stuff: the glitches in gameplay, really slow pace, starting some of the worst practices in Pokemon like Mythicals, trade evolutions, version exclusives ect. Blue, Lance and Giovanni are interesting characters...outside the Gen 1 games. But the sprites are pretty cool...even if Machop still looks like a gingerbread man to me.

7- Gen 3. Yeah the starters are pretty damn good, they have nice dungeon puzzles and the introduction of abilities was great. But to be real- I can't name a single interesting thing about any of the characters aside from Norman being the ONE dad in Pokemon and Steven being kind of cool. I can't name a thing about Roxanne, Brawly, Watson, Flannery, Winona, Lisa/Tate, Wallace (even though he became a CHAMPION) or any of the Elite Four. I also really don't like Team Aqua and Magma for how shallow they are. Again, they're roughly equal to Gen 1 Team Rocket which could have been fine...if Gen 2 Rocket didn't prove GF was capable of making simple but effective villain teams. Flannery's White Herb Torkoal would have given the games some credit...if not for Juan's stupid ass Double Team-Rest-Chesto Berry Kingdra canceling it out through Evasion hacks.

6- Gen 2. This isn't a condemnation of Gen 2 rather than how old it is. It brought in the Dark and Steel types which have helped make great type matchups and interesting new Pokemon. It made Team Rocket actually pretty interesting since they help embolden the theme of 'times are changing' with them clinging to power and relevancy with Giovanni refusing to show to showcase how their time has come and gone. Lance reinforces this theme by taking over from Blue and Red before teaching Silver, who starts the trend of more dynamic rivals. The sprites are actually really good because it's right before RSE started having blurrier sprites with clear and colorful sprites. It's just other gens adapted what makes it good.

5- Gen 7. The original stuttery Gen, though Pokemon like Vikavolt being a bettle-railcannon, Incineroar being a heel wrestler, Mimikyu's...everything and Lycanroc being a good fast Rock type making some standout Pokemon. It also introduced regional variants with solid additions like Alolan Muk and Alolan Ninetails. It's UI is also a great integration of the region's colorful aesthetic with paint brush splashes. Hau, Lillie, Gladion, Guzma and Lusamine are real standout examples of more in depth Pokemon characters and I think Team Skull is a pretty fun team to feed into the innocent tropical feel of the region. The Totem Pokemon also make for more unique boss battles. The Ultra Beasts are insane from a conceptual and gameplay perspective. I also really love Zygarde's Complete form.

4- Gen 8. A real tossup between this and Gen 7. This is a lot cleaner in terms of visuals but trades off a lot of the color and mix of tropical relaxation/insanity with a clean and flat sports aesthetic that I think is less memorable. Cinderace has an amazing signature move animation but the other two's aren't very interesting in either design or moves. I really like Sir Fetch'd and Obstagoon as new evolutions alongside Orbettle and Toxitricity as great new additions but the clean and simple presentation does make it less memorable. The gyms are also less memorable though the likes of Nessa's design and Raihan's design AND battle are very memorable. Also Leon's battle is really cool...even as he has a nostalgia baiting Charizard. (and I STARTED the series with Charizard). And then we have Hop, the first rival to actually challenge N's spot as the best rival in the games. What really pushes it over the edge is Legends Arceus for being a pinnacle of gameplay, atmosphere and story integration in the series.

3- Gen 4. This might be a little biased considering my clearer memories of Sinnoh. I think with Platnium has one of the best experiences in the games with a well-paced story, great balanced gameplay with the physical and special split allowing for more diverse Pokemon. The starters take advantage of this with the likes of Inferape being a mixed attacker, Empoleon being a special Water/Steel type and Torterra being a physical Grass/Ground tank. We get a great backstory for the Pokemon world in the form of it's creation myth and I think the best Gym Leader rematches in the 2D games. It also helps that this Gen remakes the Gen 2 games, improving the Gen 2 games and gives them the advantage of the more refined Gen 4 sprites and animations and fixing it's leveling issues in Kanto.

... Never forget the issues with the DP's speed and locking several postgame hook resolutions (Shaymin, Darkrai and fucking ARCEUS) behind LIMITED TIME DISTRIBUTIONS.

2- Gen 9. To try and make this quick- the best cast of the games with Arven, Nemona being one of the best rival and Penny being the best friendly team leader alongside the great authority figure in Principal Clavell, memorable Gym Leaders like Larry, Iono, Katie and Rhyme and the sad story of the Professors and how they ended up. They also made the first Legendary Pokemon that's an actual character in Koraidon/Miraidon. The open world allows for more expression of Pokemon's personalities (like how Tauros charge at you to show their aggression, weak and timid Pokemon run from you, Slakoth and Slowpoke lines not reacting to your presence, friendly Pokemon like Hoppip floating towards you, Tyrogue eating berries ect. The updated model textures make the Pokemon look more like actual animals that exist which helps make them appear more like pets. And this is without going into the DLCs which contain either the second best or the best rival in the series in Kieran. However the performance does in fact have issues and there should be more puzzles like in the 2D games. Also if the Pecharunt event is limited time- I'm having words with the developers.

1- Gen 5. Probably the most unique generation since it was the last 2D Gen with sequel games rather than remakes or third versions. This aspect changes a lot since it basically doubles the story of the generation which helps with things like Cherran and Bianca's character arcs with Cherran's use of held items foreshadowing his intelligence and thus his capacity for teaching or Bianca's weaker team reflecting how ill-suited she is for battling to justify her becoming Juniper's assistant. The locations are stunning in their visuals due to the combination of 3D environments and 2D sprites. The Gym Leaders have some great standouts like the Straiton City brothers, Lenora, Elesa, Skyla and Drayton. We also have Team Plasma and how they tackle a concept that Pokemon has long since tiptoed around (Pokemon abuse) being led by their leader N, who stood uncontested as the best rival for a long time.

... It's not perfect. Many of the changes in the sequel are justified by Memory Link events that you can't get normally, the Legendaries are a bit too busy and N probably came in a little early since he's a very verbose and grand rival with big talks of ideals and truth...in the generation right BEFORE we got more in depth dialogue choices. Which kind of makes the writing deflate a bit. Still, probably the best generation we have.

Hop - Um. Not sure. I like Hop x Bede but also not sure of I would want it in canon. Hop is ace too, so he's not really focused on those kinds of relationships for the most part. He does get flustered easily lol.

Marnie - It takes her 5 years to get with Naomi. But they get there!

Bede- Similar to Hop. Though I'm honestly just having fun writing his platonic relationships with everyone. He did mistake his platonic feelings/friendship with Naomi for a crush but he quickly realized it wasn't the case.

Milo - Ends up with Gordie

Kabu - Uncertain only bc I like so many hcs. Like I like him and Peony together but also just him vibing by himself is fun. Also him and Melony is cute. So yeah, not sure.

Bea - Eh. She's more focused on school and martial arts to care.

Allister - Has experienced a crush before but is waaaay to shy to do anything about it. Grateful to have the crush as a friend though.

Opal - Much like Agatha, has a history of dead husbands.

Melony - Divorced and has 5 kids ( Gordud, a daughter, and then triplet sons)

Gordie - Ends up with Milo

Piers - I might change this later only bc I'm really thinking about it, but I do see him in a poly relationship with Leon and Raihan. Again might change.

Raihan - Look above. But unlike piers, him and Leon are always end game.

Leon - Again. Look above.

Rose - Had a relationship with Cassandra before realizing she was pregnant was Carol. Was pretty much married to his work after that.

Oleana - similar case to Courtney, though maybe after a lot of therapy she gets with a nice lady.

Mustard and Honey are a couple, with Hyde.

Peony - Similar case to Kabu. Not sure. He has Peonia and recently Carol so he's honestly living his best life.

Klara - Way too toxic to be in a lasting relationship atm. She probably gets better after IoA but uh. Yeah. Not a great dating life.

Avery - Probably had never dated anyone ever…..yeah I can see him and Klara getting together at some point. It is, surprisingly, pretty healthy.

Sada and Turo are, miraculously, together in this au. They're also both dead.

Clavell- Unsure, waiting for the indigo disk to come. To really make my judgement. Was planning on giving him a husband.

Nemona - Unsure. Power of friendship real tho.

Okay gonna cut the single format, let's get right to the case.

Dendra/Miriam.

Larry is Divorced…..and also has his eyes on Hassel and Brassius who are already a couple. Has not made a move and plans to never ( he fails at this btw). Giacomo is his son ( until I change my mind).

Ryme has a partner but they broke it off. She's happily single now.

Tyme is the opposite with a husband of her own.

Iono doesn't date cause that would mess with her viewers.

Katy and Saguaro seem really cute,I'm considering it.

Jacq - Single dad ( Ramona). Is unaware of a theater teacher's feelings towards him.

Geeta and Rika definitely has a Thing but neither of them really addresses it. They're in their own world.

Poppy - Just wants Larry to say he likes Hassel and Brassius already. Also thinks boys have cooties.

Grusha - Was too depressed to consider dating anyone but is coming around to the idea.

Raifort scares people away lol.

Kofu - Unsure

Tulip - Just doesn't have the time to date

I like to think that Lance genuinely loves his entire family (his "father" isn't family), and wants to have healthy relationships with them and listen to Frederick's rants about his books and encourage Blaine to pursue theater, like Lance KNEW he'd wanted ever since Blaine was five even if Blaine didn't know, and all that stuff, but he was too scared to Leland to do any of that stuf. So he just played up his "goofball" personality to the point that it basically wasn't Lance anymore (if Lance wasn't acting for his father I feel like he'd give Kaito Momota x Giovanni Potage vibes), and tried the best he could to give his family what he wishes he could give them.

He knows it isn't enough though.

He tries to hug Frederick and give him all the physical affection that the rest of his family refused to, but all he gave Frederick were even more bruises than Blaine and Leland already gave him. He wanted to help his brother out of his depression, and encourage him to do things and HELP, but Lance couldn't. He wanted give Blaine a break from it all where he doesn't have to be perfect, and encourage Blaine to embrace himself, and separate himself from Leland, but it was never truly enough.

So yeh, Lance is definitely the first brother to rebel against Leland

Sync Pair Retrospective - 2.5 Anniversary

I skipped this cluster as well, because I didn't really focus on the retrospectives of the time, but I figure we can back it up and look at what's happening with the 2.5 Anniversary units.  Which will include Serena.

ANNI MAY Anniversary May came out as a sync pair that brought in Psychic Wish, proving that DeNA could provide field effects that existed as moves as a trainer move to avoid ever being flinched out of it.  And then never did that again, for some reason.

Anyway, Anni May came into the game in direct competition with Bianca, who was nice and tanky, gave Pep Rally on terrain use, and broadly ruled thanks to Stored Power being such hilarious DPS.  Big shoes to fill.  Anni May, by contrast, offered special attack buffs for the team, special attack debuffing, and a wildly powerful sync nuke, even for this type.  Seriously, I think she outperforms Lear at cap.  Though, "at cap" was unreasonable at the time.  And while X Sp Atk All was nice, and combined well with someone like Giovanni, you could often just unload that onto a different support, like say NY!Sabrina, who also had applicable Endure with MPR.

May was not an essential sync pair at any point in her life.  The PokeFair grid expansions were supposed to be a big break, especially as she got one at a fairly early point.  And instead, her new tools were...I mean they're kinda butt.  Befuddle and team Gradual Healing?  So she poached one of Bianca's defensive tools and gets a very minor special defense debuff.  That's not really worth it.  What's strange is there's no terrain extension.  Like, you'd think there would be, given that every single PokeFair with a field effect got at least extension 3.  May got nothing.  I'm really hoping that's saved for 3/5 half cost.

My ultimate point here being, May was just an alternate Terrain setter.  To a general pool.  She would never be bad that way, but the decision to pull her was always something awkward.  I love her because Latias, but I'd be lying if I said it was a great look.

ANNI SKYLA The only time I predicted correctly.  I called Flying Zone.  Wrong person and Pokemon, but Zone type was spot on, because Anni Steven had needed some help.   And by god, he got it, with Anni Skyla.  Skyla is...look, you know how SS Cyrus and P!Marnie really set the standard for field effect support techs, and how Lucas was good for DPS?  Yeah, Skyla's closer to Cynthia, but worse.  She offers some speed buffs, and the possibility of flinch or confuse AoE, but with really bad self-setup and like frankly nothing exceptional.  3/5 let her be a tremendous sync nuke, and offered Disarm for support, as well as some odd tanking tools that...I'm not sure if those ever worked out.

The thing is, Skyla would've been much better served had her team buffs been offensive.   Look at the roster of Flying types and you'll get the idea of why.  Very few of them have issues with gauge.  It's basically SS Ethan, who showed up later, Lysandre, and NY!Lance.  Everyone else has their own speed buffing ability, and finds this useless.  The confuse effect is nice for the DPS of Blue and Winona, but it's a far cry from the breadth of support some of the others presented with.

And oddly enough, even since then, the only beneficiary that's dropped is SS Ethan.  Sure, P!Elesa, but her moves are randomly called with Metronome, and Fly is two-turn, so it wastes a lot of your Zone time.   And especially doesn't need the speed buffs.  It's just...an odd paid that doesn't get a whole lot done. Like at least May has solid self-setup.  And yet somehow she doesn't have an expansion on her grid. Figure that out.

ANNI RAIHAN And then there's Fast Ramp McChadman over here.  Anni Raihan was the man to scout for, having an absolutely bonkers supportive kit.  At a baseline, Sandstorm as a move, trap condition for Gauntlet stuff, applied SEUN to all allies if weather was in effect, and could summon Sun as a Max Move.  Adding in grid, you got a 60% flinch chance on Aggravation, and Mind Boggler to debuff special defense.  But this doesn't address the main draw, which is just spamming Sandstorm for fun and profit.  Every time he does this, the team gets +1 physical and special moves up next. On 3/5 grid, it also gets Propulsion.  With the Head Start Lucky Skill from deluxe cookies, Raihan was a full turn saved by himself, while providing huge DPS benefits.  Raihan was for real.

And because of how he works, it's hard to really talk about him, because he's broad.  The best partners he's had were like Leon, where the Sun and Mind Boggler really improved damage, or with SS Kris where you could stack special moves to +10 pretty reliably.  But there wasn't anything that stood out within any particular comp, he was just always good and always present as an option. Even among Sandstorm setters, he didn't strictly change how that meta was played, so much as offer the same shenanigans as everyone else.  Though Sandstorm did suffer with Courtney.

And for some reason, he got a grid expansion before Skyla, getting Sun extension (eat it May), and Disarm to debuff offenses while playing pure support.  His kit just feels like it has everything.  He's even got a powerful sync at his disposal at 3/5 if you want.  Raihan's just one of those units that's not specific in any way, but is so good as a technical unit that he applies to just about any team, and that...really hasn't gone anywhere.  Raihan's still stupid good.

SYGNA SUIT SERENA After the fairly lukewarm reception of the anniversary units, Serena comes in swinging.  Like SS Lusamine before her, she gets a boost to all of her stats upon first sync, as a sort of super mega evolution.  Only unlike Lusamine, she's given a 50% multiplier broadly rather than on-type, a full Brainpower instead of Brain Sync 5, and like 200 more special attack.  I'm sorry, I am still not over how we went from Anni Lillie's Brain Sync 3 to a full Brainpower in six months.  It's so stupid.

Anyway, Serena immediately established herself as one of the best damage dealers in the game.  Nothing competed, especially not with the recent Dragon Zone supplied from Lucas.  Her only flaw was having nothing but 4-bar moves and no speed buffs, so it made Lucas' Free Moves Next that much more valuable.  There was also the issue of needing Restrain for full benefits, and because Serena needed all three turns to cap offenses, she didn't get a chance to use Thousand Waves.  So Team Sharp Entry was a really nice thing. Oh hey SS Brendan.  Yeah, when he dropped, it was over.  +1 crit on trainer move, -2 special defense per hit on Luster Purge, and Freevenge?  Even if Serena needed first sync, he compressed so much that it was borderline unstoppable.  CS was just blown apart.  Serena just packed unprecedented power for her time.

But that was her time, and this is now, and we're far away from what used to be. Serena was at a level of power where on-type was never in question.  Off-type was.  And as far as off-type goes, the introduction of Dual Rats and C!Marnie have, in my opinion, put her behind the rest.  Moreover, even some PokeFairs, like SS Steven and SS Hilda, have been keeping up with her offensive stats, with both offering faster setup and Downside Up, Steven getting moves up next potential, and Hilda offering Recharging Strike for better gauge control.  And keep in mind, Serena only keeps up with their offenses after her first sync. There's a serious delay before she's firing on all cylinders, while both of them are one click and full power.

My point here being that, while SS Serena is still one of the biggest damage number sync pairs out there, there are better now, and I think the utility of more recent options has greater value.  This isn't to disparage Serena, but Gauntlet always felt a little rough on her when trying to teambuild with lesser tools.   Hilda and SS Steven have just had much better performance on the whole. And I think this is what I take away from the 2.5 anniversary.  Damage numbers can always be made bigger.  But specific utility that's good, will always be good.
