The king's affection
Genre: Romance, historical
Episodes: 20
Starring: Park Eun-Bin, Rowon, Nam Yoon-Soo, Choi Byung-Chan
Synopsis: The Crown Prince's wife gave birth to twins, but twins were considered an ominous sign. The twin daughter was supposed to be killed, but her mother begged to save her life. Secretly, the twin daughter is sent out of the palace. A few years later, the twin son Lee Hwi is killed. The Crown Prince's wife hides her twin son's death and brings her twin daughter back to the palace and raises her as Prince Lee Hwi. Lee Hwi eventually becomes a crown prince, but she is afraid her real identity will be revealed. Because of her secret, Lee Hwi is unable to have anyone close to her.
Positives: Very well written romantic drama with great characters, interesting plot, the right amount of intriquing evil ministers and heartwarming scenes full of love and friendship. Suprisingly well handled love triangle and the story ending.
Negatives: The main plot itself (the woman dressing up as a man) is little bit cheesy, because it would suprise me that no one would be suspicious earlier. Some characters are not the sharpest pencils in the box.
Conclusion: Very good historical romance that is fun to watch.
Action: 7/10 Romance: 9/10 Intriques: 9/10 Blood: 6/10 Whump: 6/10 Friendship: 6/10 Emotions: 8/10 Humor: 8/10

Ballerina
Movies watched in 2023
Ballerina (2023, South Korea)
Director & Writer: Lee Chung Hyun
Mini-review:
I'm a huge fan of Jeon Jong Seo and I enjoyed The Call very much, so I was really looking forward to Ballerina, her second collaboration with director Lee Chung Hyun. Thankfully, it didn't disappoint. It's sleek and visually stunning, and Jeon Jong Seo more than rises up to the challenge. She definitely has what it takes to be an action movie star. Tbh, the script and the story are much weaker and unoriginal than in The Call, but Lee Chung Hyun clearly knows how to direct the hell out of an action scene. Also, the movie is pretty short, so it goes straight to the point and it never gets boring. Anyway, I hope these two keep collaborating, cause so far they've been on fire together.
P.S. There's quite a lot of triggering content, and I recommend looking up some warnings before watching.

CHIEF DETECTIVE 1958
GENRES: Historical, Drama, Police Procedural
SUMMARY: We time-travel back to 1960s Seoul and meet Park Young Han as he leaves his hometown to become a city detective.
THIS SHOW HAS EVERYTHING: Bookstores, highschool tutors, rice cakes, friendship bracelets, new shoes, PTSD, strong men, smart men, men who bite like dogs, orphans, corruption, cupboard naps, snakes, seasickness, and young love.
HOT TAKE: Despite the fact that I haven't seen the original show this prequel is based on, I still really enjoyed this quick, 10 episode series for its nostalgic sets and costumes, top-tier cast chemistry, and satisfying justice.
There's no intricate web of mysteries to keep track of here, just some good detective work, some great friendships, and an adorable romantic courtship to bring it all together.
