I hope all of you know, you are special. You are necessary.
Life is weird. It seems unceasingly cruel some days. Yesterday I saw the bodies of the humanitarian aid workers who had been killed by IDF strikes in Gaza.
What is being done there is nothing short of a genocide. To think a man like Bibi, with his heritage would use it to oppress and destroy others is unthinkable.
The crushed and mangled bodies of beautiful, proud Palestinian families left trampled by a regime hellbent on annihilation is terrifying. They deserve better. No people should face crimes like this.
In Congo, small children, barely able to walk are sent to work in the mines for our comfort. Are they not beautiful and special as well? Do their lives not have meaning? Are they not allowed to know life outside of slavery? Because that's what they are in.
The Continent, glorious, resplendent, rich with resources, but more importantly, peoples and cultures who deserve to thrive. Yet for CENTURIES now, the peoples, cultures, and resources have been plundered to run the world without given so much as a dime to the betterment and growth of the many nations of The Grand Continent.
Colonizers believe and would have everyone else believe the peoples are backward and in need of saving, when history tells us life began, expanded, and was able to be cultivated because of practices from the peoples of The Continent, the Middle East, and the Far & Near East. Islanders and more. The world is as advanced as it is, not because of colonizing, desperate, thieving despots and imperialism, but because of the minds and hearts of the Global South Majority.
You all are precious. Each of the people in these places, Sudan, Haiti, and Pakistan is worthy. My prayers at this time are especially with Taiwan after the earthquake today and Japan as the shores of both countries are receding and it seems tsunamis are imminent.
Please remember, in the midst of all of this, the vastness and greatness, the terrible and the terrific, you matter. Yes, little you means something big to the world around you. Even if no one else told you or made you feel special or like you matter. Even if someone has worked hard to convince you of the opposite, they are liars.
YOU ARE IMPORTANT AND YOU MATTER, simply because you are. We are a community of humanity, separated by distance and boundaries but bound together in the spirits of community and care.
It is overwhelming to see all this and feel insufficient. But let us learn and tell and share the stories. Let us see the humanity and worthiness of our fellow friends. Let us not let others turn away easily and forget.
We see each other. I love you.

One Last Time... Kaitlyn Barron & Izzy Poquiz, 2019-2020 FASA Co-Cultural Chairs
The end is here
Kaitlyn: So, I guess we’ve reached the end…
Izzy: Looks like it :,). It seems like just yesterday we were scrambling to plan fall semster’s events, let alone PCN. How did we pull everything off?
Kaitlyn: I honestly have no clue lol. As you continue down Izzy and I’s brain dump, laugh, cry, take note, and cringe at our escapades from a year we will never forget.
Tumblr media
^AHAHAHAHA Dank.
EPISODE I
THE CULTURAL CHAIRS AWAKEN
Tinikling on the Diag… Adobo Night….PCN...Lumpia Night… oh my! Cultural Chair may seem like a lot, because it truly is. However, it is a role like no other. With your Co-Chair (who may become your new best friend) it’s you against the world in spreading the Kultura!
Tumblr media
^One of our proudest accomplishments
On paper you’re tasked with putting on 3 cultural events each semester, with a specific emphasis on Philippine Cultural Night. This entails facilitating PCN Committee meetings, staying in contact with venue staff, developing programming, finding a speaker, picking a theme, creating and printing programs, working closely with the Performance Chair(s), ensuring we have the right amount of funding, overseeing decorations, picking a menu
Kaitlyn: We may be overwhelming them!
Izzy: Touche. Let’s break it down to the necessities:
EPISODE II
THE RISE OF THE KULTURA: CULTURAL CHAIR TOP TIPS
1. YOUR CULTURE IS WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT
a. We both are by no means experts on Filipinx / Filipinx-American culture! We have certainly become well-versed in researching, fact-checking, being open to learning, and seeking out ways to represent diverse identities.
b. YOU define your identity, and you are in a position where you can help others explore what Filipinx / Filipinx-American culture means to THEM. This is exactly what makes Cultural Chair so difficult... and so worth it.
2. PLAN AHEAD
a. Trust us, PCN is a huge event to wrap your head around and making sure you get work done before you return to school is so very important. Plus you have all summer to talk about  your ideas, which is fun with school not in the way!
b. Organization is the name of the game. Out of all the handy-dandy resume skills to have, effective organizational skills and time management is KEY.
c. By no means do you have to be a master planner, but planning an event as big as PCN while delivering on your responsibilities as a board member and student is no small feat. Know yourself. Know your limits, Most importantly, know when to ask for help!
3. TRUST YOUR CO AND TRUST YOUR BOARD
a. #THETEAM THETEAM THETEAM
b. #What team? WILDCATS
c. Your Co and fellow Boardies are your greatest support system. They are there for you when you want to cry or yell at something (a point that you almost certainly will reach), they always got your back. When you’re having a particularly busy time academically, ask for some help. Utilize this resource wisely!
Tumblr media
4. REMEMBER TO HAVE FUN
a. It can be hard sometimes to find some humor and fun when you have to deal with logistics, event planning, or serious discussions. But remember that you ran for this position to make a difference in FASA and to get people engaged with this culture we love so much. Take a break and crack a joke, it really helps when the PCN budget looms in your face.
b. Your time on board moves fast. Like crazy fast. Despite all the past testimonials and boardies saying the same exact thing, it still surprises us how quickly our time as Culturals has come to its end. Cherish every moment and use your time efficiently and effectively.
Tumblr media
^So fresh and so clean
Izzy: Speaking of fun, Kaitlyn and I DEFINITELY had our fair share of dank dynamic duo moments… All the stressful and unsavory moments that come with being cultural pale in comparison thanks to Kaitlyn and I’s ride-or-die support we have for each other. When I felt outside pressure, it was easy to eventually push through because I always knew Kaitlyn would be fighting in my corner alongside me.
Tumblr media
^CULTURALS UNITE
Kaitlyn: Full disclosure: PCN planning starts as soon as you are elected, so yes March is already go-time. So naturally, Izzy and worked together much over the summer (sometimes twice a week on end), but as we were on opposite sides of the country, FaceTime became our best friend. 6:30 am was probably the earliest I woke up for a call (the time difference is something else), but not once did either of us complain. Those meetings were where we tossed around event ideas, speaker options, and found Pamana our chosen PCN theme. We would hash out the nitty gritties of PCN and go off on tangents about Game of Thrones. I will miss those early mornings and late night calls.
EPISODE III
THE CO-CHAIRS STRIKE BACK
Your greatest friend or worst enemy?
Hahaha jk jk …...UNLESS?!
Tumblr media
Cultural Chair is a role that we would say is pretty near impossible to do alone. Nor would this role be as fun and rewarding if you were alone. Your co is there to be your greatest supporter, picking you up when you feel like the world is ending. Whenever one of us had a rough week, the other would take on more to make sure the job got done. When you’re bouncing ideas for PCN it helps to have someone else there to workshop and discuss your grandest and craziest of ideas (cough cough storyline PCN cough cough). When you are running an event like Lumpia Night it helps to have someone to direct the night’s events and interact with members, or escape to cook lumpia for 30 minutes cause you’re overwhelmed by all the people talking (lol), your co has got your back. Even more than the role, we were there for each other as friends, there to cheer up on an off day or “study” for hours on end. This year wouldn’t have been possible without the dream team.
Tumblr media
^Young and Naive
Izzy: Before we say our final goodbyes as Culturals, let’s share a little bit about how we got to FASA in the first place.
I’ve come to realize that FASA has been in the back of my mind ever since I attended PCN waaaay back when my Ate Melissa was organizing it. I, a tiny four-year-old, was just there for the ride. Little did I know that FASA would fill the cultural deficit that was missing from growing up in my white washed, small(ish) town. Once I was on campus, my desire to join and immerse myself in FASA was pretty intense. I stalked all the social media, flipped through the old FASA albums, and wondered if FASA would actually live up to my increasingly high expectations. In time, I would meet my fellow former freshman and build friendships that I’m endlessly thankful for. I’d also run for board and even win alongside the GOAT, Kaitlyn Barron herself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^How could you not love this person
Kaitlyn: I remember going FestiFall freshman year and instantly spotting the Filipino flag waving around high in the air. I ran to it and haven’t looked back from it since.
Growing up in an Irish-Filipino American household, I was often at odds with where I landed. I was too white to be Asian and too Asian to be white. Even with the bountiful diversity of my Southern Californian upbringing, I did not appreciate my Filipino heritage fully. Once I came here, separated from my family and all I knew, I clung to the anchor that was my mom’s culture, claiming it as my own and one that I would be willing to fight for. I grew to realize that I am Filipino enough, not because I knew the entire history of the Philippines, but because of the love I held for this culture I have grown cherish.
Tumblr media
EPISODE IV
A NEW PAMANA
Izzy: Our love for Filipinx American culture and will to claim it as our own have been the driving force behind our time as Cultural Chairs. We worked tirelessly, meticulously, and passionately to create an environment that supported all of you to feel the same pride to be a member of our community.
We hope that Tinik on the Diag got you excited for a packed year of the FASA Performance we’ve all come to know and love (shoutout to Bea, the honorary third Cultural Chair). We hope that Adobo Night and Lumpia Night gave you a little taste of home when you were feeling a bit homesick. We hope the cultural workshops that we’ve put on helped you to think critically about important topics that affect our community. We hope PCN inspired you to look back at the rich legacy behind us and look forward to the vibrant new Pamana that you help create each day.
Kaitlyn: I can fully say this has been one of the best years of my life, and I credit much of it to FASA. Leaving home was scary, but coming here to Michigan I found my new home in FASA. I’m going to leave all the thank yous to Izzy, but to her I have many thanks:
Izzy, You helped this shy lil bean find her place far away from all I knew. From long nights throwing ideas at our iconic google docs, to supporting me whenever I didn’t feel Filipino enough for this role, and of course all the times we got distracted and just watched YouTube videos and GoT reruns. I will forever be grateful for your friendship and love. I’m the lucky one who had the privilege to call you my co.
Izzy: Maraming maraming salamat sa inyong lahat.
To all of you still reading this, thank you for allowing Kaitlyn and I to have our Academy Award speech moment. We’ve been feeling a lil sentimental <3
To FASA, thank you for giving us the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to grow and learn about ourselves, our culture, and our community. Thank you for letting us share a little of ourselves with you this year.
To our future Kultura Chairs, You’ll do great, you’re doing great, you’ve done great. Cultural Chair requires a certain level of comfort with being uncomfy, and confidence when it seems the odds are against you. You have Kaitlyn and I’s support, and if you need us we’re only a text away!
To my fellow boardies, our board was undeniably special. I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with a group of individuals so diverse in leadership style who still always made sure there was respect and understanding for each other. I'm proud to say we’re living proof that a successful working relationship is possible with your friends. I already miss y’all so much.
To Matt and AJ, it was the best of times, it was the worst of times, (but mostly the best of times :,) ). Thank you for giving us the room to let our creativity truly shine and the guidance to keep things on track. I would say I’ll miss all the assheadery, but I have a feeling that’s not going to end any time soon.
And to Kaitlyn, there are LITERALLY no words that can convey how lucky I feel that we were brought together to do this job. Thanks to you, I learned so much about how to stand up for my beliefs and how to become a more empowered individual. Love you lots, co.
SINCERELY YOURS IN CULTURE,
Kaitlyn and Izzy

Reasons Why Eating with Hands is a Great Habit.
Tumblr media
India is an incredible country, which is proud of its rich and valuable traditions and heritage. Indians are very grounded people who stick to their values adherently. Now the westerners are looking up to our country and its beliefs with a lot of respect which earlier they you used to consider primitive. One such Indian practice that is eating with bare hands which were earlier shunned by the world is now being identified and appreciated for its myriad benefits.
According to Vedas, our hands are the most valued organs of actions. Each of our fingers is an extension of the elements nature that is air, fire, water, and earth. Therefore, eating with the hand ensures the stimulation of these elements and helps in activating all the chakras of the body. As per Ayurveda, eating should evoke both passion and emotion as eating is more of sensory experience. Order food online on veg platter and enjoy your food hot and fresh.
Let us know the incredible benefits of eating with bare hands:
1.      Engages all senses
When you eat food with cutlery, you may feel the food through your eyes, smell the food through the nose, taste it through your tongue but you miss out on one great sensation- the feeling of touch. When you eat through your hands, you can actually feel the texture of your food and feel good.
2.      Aids Digestion
Our bodies contain bacteria that exist in places such as the hands, mouth, throat, and intestines, and are thought to protect us from harmful bacteria that grow in the environment. When we eat by hand, the gentle flora protects our digestive system from exposure to harmful bacteria and further stimulates the digestive system. This does not mean that you do not forget to wash your hands before and after a meal!
3.      Balances blood sugar levels
According to a study published in a clinical nutrition journal, people with type 2 diabetes are more likely to be fast eaters who use cutlery for food than people without a medical condition. Eating with a spoon and fork associates with a faster diet connected with an imbalance of blood sugar in the body, further contributing to the development of type 2 diabetes. Therefore, throw away the tools and instead eat food by hand.  Order veg food online on veg platter and enjoy your food hot and fresh.
Tumblr media
 4.      Manage food proportions
Eating by hand is a slower experience than eating with cutlery that is a very mechanical process. When you eat by hand, you have to pay attention to what you eat. Eating without paying attention is one of the biggest causes of weight gain. Therefore, managing a portion of the food plays an important role. In addition, using your hands makes eating the food a better and more enjoyable experience.
5.      Better hygiene
As opposed to popular belief, eating by hand is more hygienic than using cutlery, because we wash our hands several times a day as compared to our utensils which we wash only once a day. We are aware of the cleanliness of our hands, so no matter what happens, our hands will be cleaner than the utensils.
So, what are you waiting for? Throw away the cutlery and start eating your favorite dishes in a golden way to make sure you are healthier! Next time, don't let go of old habits before you read all the facts! Order food online on Veg Platter and relish these foods in the comfort of your home. Download the app www.vegplatter.in/app

Regarding the removal of confederate monuments there are six common arguments made by the opposition. This is my attempt to rebut each one with actual history and commonsense.
The list goes like this:
Argument 1: These are about history not hate.
My response: Monuments are for heroes and those who would fight to keep an entire race enslaved are far from heroic. The history that these monuments represent is therefore a history of hate. These men also fought AGAINST the United States making them traitors.
I can hear you now: But But But Congress made them veterans in 1958.
Just because someone is a veteran does not make them a hero. For instance: Germany had its own veterans of World War II but I doubt there is a moral person among us that would declare Nazis of any rank as heroes.
Americans fought about slavery and the Confederacy lost. This fact alone negates the possibility that Confederate soldiers of any rank could be heroes. Add in the reason for the conflict that drove the Confederacy to secede and this fact is underscored.
Argument 2: This is erasing history.
My response: Is it really? Once again I point to Germany and their history with the Nazis. There are monuments in Germany that are dedicated to the World War II conflict. The difference is that these monuments immortalize the victims and those who fought against the Nazis rather than depicting Nazi soldiers of any rank in proud stances.
Germany has chosen to reframe it’s history in a more inclusive way rather than to immortalize and celebrate those who would kill off another race for their own warped sense of Nationalism.
As an American I would like to think that we are just as progressive. I would like to think that we want to take down these monuments to Confederate soldiers that seem to celebrate them as if something they did was heroic. Perhaps in their place we can put monuments to those who fought against the people who would keep an entire race enslaved in this country.
Frederick Douglass, Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman; William Lloyd Garrison; John Adams; John Quincy Adams; Luisa May Alcott; Susan B Anthony…
American history is rich with those who would fight against the enslavement of another race. Why not celebrate them instead of Robert E. Lee or Stonewall Jackson who fought to maintain slavery?
Argument 3: Washington and Jefferson owned slaves so we should remove their statues too.
My response: We do not celebrate Washington or Jefferson for their participation or lack there of in slavery. We celebrate them for the creation of this country. Their deeds were heroic because they fought to give birth to this nation. They also framed our US Constitution and our Declaration of Independence. They fought to create a society that was meant to be inclusive for everyone who came to the shores. Don’t take my word for it… Read the US Constitution.
Within the US Constitution there is not only the freedom of speech but there is also the freedom of religion. There are also three amendments known as the Reconstruction amendments: the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments. These amendments demonstrate that Americans do have the ability to progress if we so choose.
The Founding Fathers recognized that human beings are not stagnant which is why Washington and Jefferson, along with their contemporaries, left the US Constitution malleable allowing for us to add the Reconstruction amendments after the Civil War.
The US Constitution and its amendments prove that the founding fathers trusted us to do better when we knew better. I for one choose to see that the faith and trust that men like Washington and Jefferson placed in future Americans does not meet with disappointment.
Argument 4: The Civil War was about state’s rights.
My response: This is the best excuse that closeted racists can come up with in order to justify monuments to men who fought to keep another race enslaved while being able to assuage their own guilt for continuing to be racist even after they know better.
Don’t believe me? Let’s take a good look at what right the states were trying to keep when they seceded from the Union: the ability to keep another race enslaved.
!!Enough said!!
Argument 5: If we are taking down Confederate monuments then we should also take down MLK Jr.s because he was against gay people.
My response: MLK Jr. is not being celebrated because he hated the LGBTQ community. He is being celebrated because he fought against racism and fought for the civil rights for minorities in America.
MLK Jr stood in the face of oppression, and the work that he did allowed for the LGBTQ community other minorities to be where they are today in their own fights for civil rights.
In essence, MLK Jr. laid the foundation for future fights for the rights for those who do not partake in heterosexual Christian white privilege. This makes him a hero deserving of a monument.
Argument 6: The Democrats created the KKK and Republicans are the party of Lincoln who freed the slaves.
My response: This is a deflection tactic meant to make a person feel better for voting for a party that has been progressively racist since the late 1960s. If you are making this argument then you obviously have not been paying attention to ALL of history either.
Yes, Lincoln was initially a Republican, and yes, the Democrats are the creators of the KKK….however this was flipped on its head during the Civil Rights movement. It was actually long in coming if history is really studied in depth though.
The GOP is no longer the party of Lincoln, and JFK washed in a new wave of Democrats who have been progressively more forward thinking and less racist just as Newt Gingrich washed away that which Lincoln built and brought forth division among Americans.
For a small glimpse of how things actually unfolded I have provided a link for those who are not to lazy to read; or to closed minded to learn and change.
https://weeklysift.com/2014/08/11/not-a-tea-party-a-confederate-party/
So where do we draw the line? We draw the line in places like touching the reenactments at Gettysburg; pulling down Jefferson Davis’s house; disturbing Arlington national cemetery.
Why should these sites be protected even as statues and monuments dedicated to Confederate soldiers come down? Let’s start with Gettysburg.
According to most historians Gettysburg was the turning point in the Civil War. It was the point at which the Union got the upper hand on slavery and those who would fight to preserve it.
Jefferson Davis’s house should be left standing because it is a physical reminder of how disillusioned Americans can become with their federal government. Let’s not forget that Jefferson Davis didn’t want to lead the Confederacy in much the same way that Robert E. Lee did not want to lead the Confederate army. In the end though both men became disillusioned with the idea of central government control; and all over the idea of removing the institution of slavery.
This brings me to Arlington National Cemetery. Arlington may be the former home and land of Robert E. Lee, but what most people forget is how it came to be. How it came to be is why it must be left standing.
As punishment for his participation in the Civil War, Robert E. Lee was imprisoned for treason, sedition, and desertion. People often forget that he was a Union soldier before the Civil War conflict began. He deserted in the Union army to leave the Army of Northern Virginia. The treason and sedition charges are obvious.
As a result of the charges levied against him, Robert E. Lee’s lands became forfeit. That land then became the cemetery for slaves and veterans that we all know as Arlington National Cemetery.
Arlington National Cemetery stands as a reminder of two things: the first being a reminder of what this country has sacrificed in order to get where we are, and the second is as a reminder of what can happen when you commit treason against this country.
So there it is. That is legacy of the ‘our heritage’ (aka white heritage) and the history of America that is being threatened to be 'taken away’. I don’t know about you but I for one intend to be on the right side of history this time.

It is impossible to climb ice without crampons and they actually come with the guide and I'll have all that information down below once you start climbing it's about eight hours in total from the top to the bottom of this glacier hike was one of if not the most defining travel experience I've had in my whole life it's one thing to see it but to actually hear the pieces of ice the size of buildings moving and breaking and it felt like a living of things its massive massive living things if. you want to climb this glacier you have to act fast because in a matter of a few short years this glacier won't even be here where was it before how much farther out 2001 that all the way to the angular bitches like how much longer will this be here for 20 years 20 years yeah you heard that 20 years at the fact that these aren't gonna be around in 20 years you know when I'm a middle-aged guy this might not be here if you want to ever climb a glacier do it don't wait get out here climb the glacier we're halfway up now and be at the top the next location is the land false and follows which translates to long at waterfall this waterfall is less of an activity and more of just an attraction I mean you're driving down the highway out of nowhere you hear this noise this rumbling noise then you see the mist you turn the corner and you see the largest most menacing waterfall on earth this waterfall is over 2,000 feet high the world waterfall database declared this waterfall to be one of the best in the world that's got to tell you something. I drove past this waterfall on my ways - boss swear I did some whitewater river kayaking Laing folson is the perfect place if you're on a long road trip in Norway - just pull over to the side of the road have some food enjoy the beauty and just kind of take it in because it is quite good sight the next location pause the video try to pronounce this word yeah there's very very long the region word translates to Atlantic Ocean Road now it is known as the world's most dangerous road just because during the wintertime there's very strong storms that go through this area when I did this drive was actually a beautiful sunny day. so I think it to experience it in the storm and the craziness but still I could imagine it can be pretty menacing in the storm it is eight total bridges long and eight thousand two hundred and seventy-four meters and this is the biggest tip of this video if you are going to Norway you make videos and you make photos invest in the drone the drone is not one way to really really see this country which brings us to our next location deep in the mountains of western Norway life strolled stiva road trophy diem  translates directly to trolls latter troll spigen is a visual Beast I have never seen a place that was so won a major stomach drop about to break down that steep its bite course in the whole world this is one of those life moments where you feel so alive but at the same time you're like should I be doing this like that just because of how steep the road is if you're going down that road on a bike in you're at the edge and you make a wrong turn you're going over the edge and you're falling thousands of feet down to the ground it is a straight cliff drop down to the valley this road.
