#Let's Talk About {Shimoneta}

AU: Shimoneta x Hetalia

This is an idea that I've had for a while and ties into my original "Oboro Tsukimigusa is Japan" theory.

TLDR: Germany and Italy go searching for their lost friend and are forced to join a terrorist organization, and Shimoneta gets a too serious backstory.

The basic gist of it is that Japan isn't the only country that has gone entirely puritanical and sex-afraid, but most of the world has due to overpopulation stemming from a baby boom after ww3. America and Canada avoided this fate because the first fell into a civil war which was actually what caused the third world war, and the second had a bunch of political issues immediately afterwards.

Said war was horrifying enough that an entire generation realized their mortality and the beauty of life which, while causing many other issues, also led to them having a lot of children, like, seven-eight children households became common and expected all over the world.

Understandably, this many people was far too much for most countries to handle and society practically broke down. The next generation fell into escapism to distract themselves from the hell outside, especially and most importantly technology designed for sex and pleasure.

And nobody should be surprised to learn that the next generation wasn't pleased with this, they blamed their parents for the world they inherited and became extremely puritanical, to the point of trying to eradicate sex (as that was the scapegoat) entirely. With their technology it really was possible to do so as seen in shimoneta many high morality students don't even know the most basic terms for that kind of anatomy, it's not just a lack of education.

TLDR: The shimoneta cast are living through the backlash to their grandparents.

Now for the Hetalia part: After a world meeting, America asks Germany and Italy to try and find Japan, as it had been years since anyone had seen him. The last time anyone heard of him was that he was arrested at the japanese embassy in Washington, he was accused of going to America just to get access to lewd content.

America asks this of them because he has been banned from the country not only because the US isn't as hard line as japan but also due to the fact a bunch of political refugees came to America once the laws against lewd material were enacted, which the japanese government didn't like.

Germany and Italy decide to help America and go to Japan for "diplomatic reasons". At the airport they are forced to wear the same PMs as the rest of the population but won't really be arrested if they go off because of diplomatic immunity (but they can be kicked out of the country).

Que Italy doing his normal hand gestures and getting arrested by the decency squad but let go at the police station and everyone wastes their time dealing with this shit.

The two spend days looking everywhere they can, which includes taking guided tours into secure buildings and searching the internet for any rumors, but ultimately find no leads. It's not until one of their tours leads to Tokioka Academy (the main setting of shimoneta) that things start to heat up as they witness an 'attack' from an obscenity terrorist which cuts their tour short.

Afterwards they go to a local cafe to try and cool off but a student, who happens to be from that same school, is sitting a few tables away and she is making some... really sexual puns and jokes towards her fellow classmate who is just kinda putting up with her. Germany does his best to ignore them but things eventually escalate when the girl starts talking about what that terrorist did from first person, and the boy with her tells her to keep it down since they weren't alone at the moment, cut to Germany staring at them strangely with Italy being confused and asking him what's wrong.

So... this girl is apparently the obscene terrorist "Blue Snow" and her partner is "Tanukichi Ouma". They (somehow) manage to knock out and tie up both Germany and Italy and hold them hostage in the cafe's basement. Germany remains serious and refuses to tell them anything beyond his name while Italy is screaming for his life and is trying to throw his friend under the bus (like he did when France caught them) by listing out all the weird things that Germany like to watch.

Of course, Blue Snow pays more attention to Italy and says that Germany 'isn't such a buzzkill after all, he's just shy'. Due to this, and the fact that they are 'diplomats' who could act as spies, she asks them to join her terrorist organization, SOX, or else she would expose the types of videos that Germany indulges in. He reluctantly agrees to do so while Italy jumps at her words since he's begging for his life.

Blue Snow is actually "Ayame Kajou" and Germany + Italy decide to keep an eye on Ayame and Tanukichi to make sure that they really are just anti-censorship freedom fighters they claim to be and not more nasty terrorists, they use the excuse of 'wanting to learn of japan's morality system so they can carry it overseas' to examine and watch the school while it is in session.

This happens sometime after episode one but before Otome joins SOX so Italy and Germany are forced to help with some of their plots.

Germany is somewhat annoyed by Ayame's jokes and sees them as immature but he doesn't care too much about them in general, which leads to

Things go normally until Oboro is called into the school, where Germany seems to recognize her. He brushes this off though as Oboro is, to his knowledge, a woman so it can't be who he's thinking of, right?

Italy has the same reaction before Germany tells him that Tsukimigusa is female, where he sadly gives up his assumptions.

Later on, Tanukichi discovers on accident that Oboro is actually a dude dressing as a woman, and he wasn't just brought in by the student council president to combat obscenity but was sent by her parents, who are the leaders of japan, to keep her safe from lewdness. He tells this to the others and while most of SOX (Otome and Kosuri too at this point) thinks he's joking, Italy gets excited and shouts out to Germany that Oboro must be Japan (Note: he uses the name Japan and not "Kiku", since they have been using their human names for obvious reasons).

Everyone seems confused by this and Germany covers his mouth and scolds him, but there's no taking it back, they explain what they truly are and why they came here. Ayame seems more serious than she normally is and promises to help the two find Japan at all costs. This shocks her friends because she isn't known to act like this, but there's a good reason why. Something similar happened to her father, a politician who was arrested on false charges of grooming kids, and she knows about the 'Kiku Honda' incident and that he really was the personification of her country and saw it for what it truly was, puritanical totalitarianism.

During the fight with Gathered Fabric (Another Ero!Terrorist group who steals underwear, really just a bunch of perverts using politics to satisfy their urges), Oboro winds up gravely injured and Germany finds/saves him by bringing him to the basement under the cafe, he passes out of course and only wakes up once the natural regeneration of a personification takes its course.

At this point, Oboro's survival seems like a miracle and he assumes it to be one as he wakes up in front of Germany, Italy, and the rest of SOX. Of course, he is hostile towards them, even when Italy hugs him and starts crying asking what happened to make him like this, but Oboro doesn't understand what he's talking about.

They keep Oboro tied up there for a long time until one day when Germany came down to visit him. The conversation went as following, Oboro says that keeping someone tied up for this long is bad for their health, Germany agrees but says that there is a good reason for it. Oboro says that they have him mistaken for someone else but Germany asks if he knows about Japan's arrest, he does and says that Kiku Honda was arrested for 'Obsenity Tourism' and that it was especially shameful since he was a diplomat.

Germany is a bit shocked and asks Oboro more of what he knows about the man and he just says that he was a long working diplomat from before the current government rose to power. Germany asks if that's all he knows and Oboro says that is all there is to know about Kiku Honda, aside from the fact he has been in jail for years and is likely dead.

Germany doesn't respond but then tells him that he is wrong, Kiku wasn't just some random diplomat but was extremely important behind closed doors. Oboro refuses to hear more since that would be information beyond his clearance but Germany doesn't listen to him and asks if he has heard of national personifications.

Oboro says that he hasn't and Germany explains what they are, and that he is one himself. Oboro thinks this is clearly science fiction and tells him to stop messing around but Germany returns to the incident with Gathered Fabric, the injuries he received should have been unsurvivable.

Oboro refutes this and says that a skull fracture is nothing in this day but Germany explains that he didn't just have a head injury but that half of his brain had spilled out onto the ground when Germany picked him up but he was still, albeit barely, conscious.

Oboro denies this but Germany stops him and says that he can prove it. He takes out his gun (which he is allowed to carry due to being a diplomat, he used this against Gathered Fabric too) and points it at his own head before pulling the trigger. Yes, he 'dies' for a few minutes but wakes up in pain and lightheaded. He asks if this is enough evidence that he was telling the truth but Oboro is still in denial.

This escalates into an argument where Oboro says that he can't a personification and in a heated moment suggests that Germany prove it by shooting him and he does so in heat of the moment anger.

The same thing happens to Oboro but Ayame and Tanukichi come down as he is waking up confused and in shock. After a long explanation, Oboro is left speechless and paralyzed when Ayame asks if he believes him now and Tanukichi finds this especially strange since it's the first time they've ever seen Oboro express any kind of emotion.

Oboro stays with SOX and is eventually freed but he doesn't go back to the decency squad and basically reflects on what he remembers, the first thing is of all things, finishing 'specialized training' to become a member of the specialized police force. He realizes that he was somebody before his boss made him 'Oboro' and decides to try and regain the memories he lost of what is at least 20 years of his life.

Eventually he does regain his memories of being Japan and also the torture and brainwashing which was done to him so that the government could have their perfect personification of what they wanted Japan to be. Afterwards Japan deals with the trauma from all of that and desperately wants to flee from his home so they can't get him back.

My Review of Wonder Egg Priority

How did I get into this anime? So at the beginning of 2021, this anime was seen as a must-see and I put it on the plan to watch list right then and never looked back. Okay, that��s a lie. Obviously I’ve heard of what happened with the sequel special that came out shortly after the series end. Time to see what the hoopla was all about! Something has to account for a series going from a nearly solid 8/10 to worse than sand in your crotch.

Ai Ooto is a bit of a recluse. She was never one to make friends at school. She did though. A girl by the name of Koito Nagase chose to be Ai’s best friend. Soon after, Koito committed suicide and Ai is left alone again. Nowadays, Ai is talking to some strange entities and one ends up giving her a free egg. The purpose of the egg, Ai must break it. Once broken, a person comes out of the egg and Ai must help protect that person. These girls are a target for certain entities that take shape of the reason why they committed suicide.

Ai has taken on the role of helping every person that comes from an egg in hopes of one day getting closer to possibly helping her best friend Koito and finding the reason behind her suicide. Until then, her purpose is to protect these wonder eggs.

But Ai isn’t alone as there are several other girls doing the same thing with someone close to them. Neiru is doing it for her sister. Rika is doing it for her fan. And Momoe is doing it for a close friend who loved her.

BETWEEN THE SUB AND THE DUB: FUNimation really made this one exclusively theirs, but thankfully it’s on other platforms thanks to the new merger. On the plus side, their dub seems pretty cool. It gives me a chance to hear certain voice actresses I’ve only heard periodically or not at all since I haven’t been keeping up with FUNimation’s work as much as I really should have. Here’s what you might have recognized these folks from.

SHIPPING: So…I feel uneasy about Ai’s teacher, Mr. Sawaki. I don’t think he did anything to Koito, but I still felt ewwie when it came to him and Ai. I might be siding with Rika a bit, but I can’t really believe this innocent crap about casually drawing Ai and dating Ai’s mother.

Now for something a little less ewwie, let’s talk about Momoe. I know it doesn’t help that she’s the niece of Mr. Sawaki, but she doesn’t give off that creepy vibe. She’s kinda had a bit of a record with the ladies due to her tomboyish appearance. Momoe is fighting for Haruka, a girl who committed suicide after Momoe turned down her romantic offer. And a lot of the girls Momoe saves found her beautiful. What about men? Well folks, Momoe was asked out on a date by a boy. However, that boy thought Momoe was a boy…so that happened. If this series intends to continue, I would like to see Momoe meet someone. Though for the moment, I would like not to see this series for a long time. I’ll get to that why soon enough.

As for her what I think she identifies as…not my place to say, speculate, or continue further.

ENDING: How did things go so wrong?

How about for starters, don’t have a recap episode as part of the regular series!

Believe it or not, Cloverworks did the very same thing and at the very same time to The Promised Neverland. No one asked for that shit. Wonder Egg did not need a fucking recap for the first 7 episodes in a 12 episode season. Or should I say 11, because I can’t believe that a recap made its way onto the roster. I shouldn’t be so bitchy since there was a different episode planned, but it was scrapped and we were given the recap. I guess everyone at Cloverworks was on a deadline.

Neiru ended up with a big clue when it comes to saving girls that hatch from eggs. One of her eggs turned out to be her best friend named Kotobuki. The only problem is that Kotobuki is in a vegetative state. So this does dampen hopes of the girls trying to get to their ultimate goal of saving their loved one. And then Momoe got her wish granted as she was somewhat reunited with Haruka, the girl she was trying to save. She sees Haruka for a few seconds and she disappears, I guess she’s alive now. Then a grim reaper appears, kills Momoe’s familiar, and force-feeds it to her. And in the following episode, same thing happens to Rika.

And then we have those two suspicious crash-test dummies selling the eggs to the girls, Acca and Ura-Acca. I had suspicions about those two from the very second they appeared. I trust Kyubey…um, no, no I can’t go that far. But these two are almost for certain the cause of all the wonder egg girls’s trauma. And they are in cahoots of some sort with Neiru’s assistant.

What really happened was Acca and Ura-Acca (back when they were living human beings) created an A.I. named Frill. She was a very intelligent little girl that seemed to be happy living with her two daddies. But she was also programmed to have flaws too (including jealousy). That jealousy was showcased when Ura-Acca meets a woman that he ends up getting married to and eventually expecting a baby. Frill kills Ura-Acca’s wife. The baby survived. Ura-Acca entombs Frill. The baby grows up into a junior high student. And then she kills herself.

We’re pretty sure Frill had something to do with that suicide. Might as well blame her for every suicide in this story while I’m at it! Those weird deities that showed up in front of Rika and Momoe mentioned Frill by name. Too bad we don’t get any insight into this. Is she to blame for pushing these stressed females to the edge? As for the final episode, Ai saves an alternate universe version of herself!

So that happened! Yeah, Ai is saving herself. Apparently we’re dealing with alternate universe bullshit here. In another timeline, this second Ai committed suicide due to the bullying and alienation she suffered due to having Heterochromia (one eye color different from the other). I sure hope the sequel special clears up my confusion about the last couple of episodes.

THAT SPECIAL: So this is what happened…

*5 minutes into special* No way they’re doing another recap

*15 minutes into special* Seriously?! Another God damned recap?! Didn’t you guys do one during the series? Why is this necessary?

*25 minutes into special* So half of this special is dedicated to the recap. Okay, this better wrap things up nicely or I’m gonna spit.

Twenty minutes later…

I hate everyone now.

So Neiru is an AI created by Kotobuki, the AI introduced near the end and decides to try and become human in the dream world or some shit. Meanwhile all the girls Ai and the others risked to save are alive but don’t know of their real friend’s existence nor want anything to do with them. And I guess Frill is still out there getting into girls heads about suicide. Ai runs away from everything until the last minute of the special where she decides to go back to the eggs in hopes of finding and saving Neiru. And Ai indicates she’s back and I don’t know, is that a nod for another season?

Hmm…what does Ai always say when she fights the weird deities?

That’s how I feel right now.

GOD DAMN WAS THIS AGGRAVATING! Everything about this series was aggravating. For starters, the animation is beautiful. Of course it is, Cloverworks does fine work (most of the time). The start of the story gave me a lot of Madoka Magica vibes. Yeah, Ai and the other girls aren’t magical girls or anything like that. But they do have other worldly powers and go up against entities and deal with existential crisis of all forms. The way the story was going, it had me excited for more. And to make things more interesting, this was an original story. No manga, visual novel, or game to muck things up. All of us are in the same boat when watching. But then things take a dip in the road and eventually go off a cliff.

So much potential! So much hope! And the execution was shit! You hate to see that happen to a series like this. It did shine a bit of a light on a pretty sensitive subject like teenage female suicide. I know suicide is at an all-time high in Japan, but I’m unsure which gender is most affected. Regardless, being a teenager sucks and thoughts can arise from anything! Female adolescence is a stressful time and some of the stories of these girls Ai and the others saved were interesting to watch. But then when we get to the story about Frill, I’m just thrown off! She’s still out there convincing teenage girls to off themselves. She’s a menace and no one is stopping her.

You know what? After watching that, I’m rethinking wanting to read a manga or light novel adaptation. Hell, I don’t think I would even watch a second season if we’re ‘blessed’ with one. That might change in the future but for now I don’t want anything to do with this shit. And as for recommendation…I don’t know what to say except avoid the recaps and make your own decision whether or not you watch the second half to the special. I personally hated the ending, but make your own choice on the matter.

There was one thing that nobody knew about Gojo, apart from Nanami.

It was that he had a girlfriend of five years.

And she was coming back home after being away for three months.

“I can’t believe we’re going to meet your girlfriend, Gojo-sensei. She sounds so nice!” Itadori exclaims and Megumi slaps his head. “Oh she is. Very nice.” Gojo says and looks at Nanami. “I am not prepared.”

“SA-TO-RU!!!!!” A cheery voice yells out his name and a young girl runs towards him. “Oh here she comes. Y/N!” He yells back and gets tackled to the ground by her. “Well, she’s happy to see him.” Nobara says and crosses her arms while watching the scene.

Y/n kisses all around his face and neck. “I’ve missed you! I’ve missed you so much, Satsat!” Y/n chirps as Gojo smiles and laughs. “I’ve missed you too, princess!” He hugs her and wakes up. Y/n latches onto his arm and looks at the three students. “Hello there! I’m Y/n. Satsat’s girlfriend.” She introduces herself and Itadori chuckles. “Satsat?!” He exclaims and Megumi slaps his head again.

“Y/n. These are the students I told you about. Megumi, Nobara and Itadori. And you remember Nanami.” He points to Nanami who waves. “Nanami!” She hugs him. “Thank you for taking care of Satsat. I owe you!” Y/n smiles and Nanami pats her back. “It’s alright.”

“Oh! And you are Sukuna’s vessel, isn’t it?” Y/n asks Itadori and he nods. All of them get acquainted and Y/n is back to Gojo. “I got a surprise for you, Satsat.” She whispers and takes his hand. “What is it?” He asks, smiling. She pulls out something from her pocket and stuffs it in his hand and winks at him.

Gojo peeps at it and widens his eyes and shoved it in his pocket. Her bright pink panties were only for him. He leans down and pecks her cheek. “Thank you, babe. I love it.” He smirks and she leans to his ear. “All for you. And more.”

After the meeting of the students, Gojo takes Y/n to meet the teachers from Kyoto. And there she sees Utahime Iori. “Hello.” She says to Y/n and Y/n squints her eyes. She walks up to Iori and circles her. “You like Gojo?” Y/n asks and Iori gasps. “Wha-What?! O-Of course not!” Y/n smiles and places her hand on Iori’s shoulder. “Good. Because I wouldn’t like that. I wouldn’t like it at all.” She threatens. Iori looks at Y/n, stunned. Y/n just smiles and hops back to Gojo.

“What the fuck?”

Gojo had left the table where all of them were eating, to his locker room to retrieve his bag when suddenly his locker door was shut. “What the- oh. Y/n. Hi.” He turns and faces her. “Satsat~” she purrs and presses her breasts to his chest. “What are you doing, princess?” He asks, amused. “Mm. Satsat. It’s been so long since we fucked. I couldn’t stop thinking about these long fingers in me. Or your fat cock.” She bends down onto her knees and unzips his pants. “Here? Now? You will keep everyone waiting.” Gojo breathes out as he pets her hair and cups her cheek. “They can wait. Or they can watch, I don’t care. All I want is for my Satsat to feel good~” she takes out his cock and pumps him.

“Oh man.” Gojo groans and leans his head against his locker. As she works him up and gets him hard, she suddenly tucks him back into his pants and kisses him through it. “Babe! What?” He questions, confused. “69 sounds good right about now. I want you to taste how sweet I am while I swallow yours.” Y/n purrs and kisses his neck.

They go back to the table and sit next to each other. Gojo was so frustrated. All he wanted was to go home and give her whatever she wanted but he had to get through lunch first. Iori was talking to Gojo, asking him about his face and if he had a fever. “N-No. I’m fine.” Gojo replies and Y/n pouts. She moves from her seat onto Gojo’s lap, right onto his boner. “Satsat is fine. Even he did have a fever, I’ll take care of him.” Y/n sticks out her tongue and Iori scoffs.

Y/n looks to Gojo and cups his cheek. “Want to go home, baby? I got something that will take good care of you.” She mocks innocence and subtly rubs her ass on his boner. “Yeah. Let’s go.” He tells her and she kisses his cheek. “We’ll catch up with you guys later, okay?!” She yells out as she drags Gojo to the car. Maybe she’ll suck him off on the car, we’ll never know.

Dere Types That Are Commonly Confused With Another

I made a a few posts about comparing the two similar dere types but it didn’t really seem to have that much effect. I’m aware not everyone will click on the “dere types comparison” hashtag so I may as well put it all in one page.

The difference is there won’t be bulletpoints this time so I’ll instead rely on full explanation as we go along. I know I may make mistakes, but hey as long as it’s effective and entertaining, I’m up for it.

I will also add the character examples of each overlap. Now let’s begin.

Dandere

A dandere is quite a popular trope in anime. It is one of the four main dere types, and yet this archetype is commonly confused with a kuudere.

Why?

Most dandere characters appear as kuuderes. Both are silent, asocial, they hardly talk, and don’t really open up until the right person comes along. Danderes are more anxious than kuuderes. However, both kuudere and dandere characters can sometimes display the same facial expressions and body language, so I wouldn’t blame them for getting the two mixed up.

Shown in the GIF above is the example of the overlap, Yuki Nagato from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. She came across as emotionless and blunt when she was really just shy. She had trouble expressing her feelings but she slowly came around in the end.

Hajidere

A lesser known trope, but it is slowly becoming recognized. A hajidere is basically someone who is embarrassed around heir crush. As the trope becomes more recognized, there’s no doubt people will mistake this archetype as a dandere.

Why?

Both of these dere types display their shy behavior, so it is no doubt that more people will get the two mixed up, which is why I’ll explain the difference.

Danderes are silent and less open towards people in general due to their shyness, especially towards people they don’t know. They don’t initiate conversation, and so they tend to be more socially awkward. The shyness of a hajidere depends on the situation, they aren’t always shy. They can in fact be more outspoken when they need to be.

While both dere types are shy towards their crush, it’s the hajideres that take this to the extreme; they freeze up, sometimes to the point of fainting. Shown in the GIF is Hinata Hyuuga from Naruto, the character who was often listed in the examples of both dandere and hajidere characters. Hinata was initially shy towards everyone like a dandere, but she also took her shyness towards her crush to the extreme like a hajidere would by going red and fainting. Hinata being the example of both, adds the confusion between the two dere types.

Bodere

A fairly new trope. Boderes cope with their romantic feelings poorly by lashing out so they can hide their shyness. They are easily mistaken with the most popular dere type, the tsundere.

Why?

Boderes are similar to tsunderes; they both lash out, get embarrased easily, and they both have trouble handling their romantic feelings. But there’s a catch. Bodere characters lack the dialogue that tsunderes have and are far less mean and arrogant. In fact, boderes don’t have a harsh exterior at all. Instead, boderes are more shy and they use their fists instead of words. You can say they are like a combination of a tsundere and dandere, but it’s the bodere’s lack of dialogue when embarrassed that really distinguishes them from tsundere, dandere, and hajidere.

The GIF is Hiyori Iki from Noragami, while Mahiru Inami from Working is a more popular example of a bodere, I tend to see Hiyori as a toned down Mahiru, except she doesn’t have Androphobia which is what influenced Mahiru’s behavior and personality.

Why is Hiyori in there and not Mahiru? Bodere behaviors often overlap with tsundere qualities, which often causes confusion. Plus some people group Hiyori with other tsundere characters, thus ignoring her bodere behaviors. While I don’t blame them for seeing Hiyori this way, I believe bodere better fits the bill because she lashes out with violence.

Dorodere

This trope is neither rare or popular, but somewhere in the middle. A dorodere is a character who is sweet on the outside and disturbed on the inside. This archetype is often confused with a more popular dere type, the yandere.

Why?

Both dere types are sweet on the outside and they’re both initially sweet and kind. The main difference is how the mind influences the behavior of a character. While both types are obsessive, it’s the doroderes who don’t act on their thoughts by harming someone else, and it’s the yanderes who are more likely to commit a crime in the name of love.

However, not all yanderes commit crimes by killing or becoming serial killers, which is a common myth about the yandere trope. Not all yanderes kill, but they do act on their thoughts through over protectiveness or some other form of brutality. Anna Nishikinomiya from Shimoneta is a prime example of a yandere who has never killed anyone, but she did act on her obsessive thoughts by attempting to rape the protagonist.

In the GIF above is Yuri from Doki Doki Literature Club. She’s there because people often debate on whether she meets the yandere criteria or not. But she fits the dorodere criteria because one, she doesn’t act on her thoughts; and two, she’s unpredictable. I believe she was a dandere who became a dorodere after Monika messed up her personality.

Anime of the Decade - 2015

So, I’ve taken a glance through the shows that came out this year... and I’m a little scared. This is the beginning of my seasonal watching and the number of shows really ramps up. So to keep the work down and stand any chance of finishing this decade off by tomorrow I’ll only be highlighting a handful of shows per season. Additionally since there are really a lot of great shows, I’ll be awarding my Anime of the Season in addition to the AOTY. Lets get started.

Winter:

Tokyo Ghoul Root A - Despite people’s general dislike of this anime adaptation, I quite liked it. This second season was quite interesting to me. 

Assassination Classroom - Damn, this show really grabs you. It has so much heart that you can really build an emotional connection with these characters. And there are a lot of characters, and somehow they all have good development (at least to some degree). A strong plot and a complete story make this a must watch. 

Death Parade - This show is absolutely perfect and is my AOTS for this winter season. Please go watch it. Just go. 

Absolute Duo - Cute ecchi show. Fun power system

How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend - This show has a pretty unique story and ALL the girls are super cute. This show also created my leggings/thigh highs/pantyhose and legs fetish, cause hot damn Utaha-senpai is sexy. 

Spring:

DanMachi - I absolutely adore this show. I’m so glad it finally got a second season. AND it’s getting a season 3 + a movie. Such a fun fantasy show with a lot of characters and heart. 

Shokugeki no Souma - This is my AOTS and very well might be my anime of the year. It’s in my All Time top 10 and I don’t think I could say enough about how much I love this show. It takes everything I love about shounen battle shows and adds in food and cooking which I love, and glorious ecchi. It’s such a beautiful blend of perfection, I absolutely love it. 

Yamada-kun and the 7 Witches - This was a really fun romance show. The whole body swap idea is always a fun idea to explore and this does so quite well. 

Oregairu S2 - More of 8-man and gang. Season 3 in 2020, quite excited. 

High School DxD BorN - More of Issei, Rias, and the gang. Lots more titays. 

Summer:

Overlord - This first season is so good. Some of the later seasons have a lot of good points, but I don’t think they quite live up to this first season. Isekai, but not. Sao-like VRMMO style, but not. It’s really good and it takes my AOTS. 

Charlotte - Talk about super powers, this show has so much promise and interest. I quite liked it, including the controversial ending. Definitely worth a watch. 

Gate - While this show doesn’t quite live up to the hype, it’s definitely a fun ride. Modern Japan meets sword and sorcery world, how do the cultures clash, what can they learn from each other, who will dominate who?

Monster Musume - Sexy monster girls. I mean, come on. It’s awesome. 

Rokka no Yuusha - This has got to be near the top of my list of shows that I wish had another season. This is a mystery, suspense, action show that has so much premise and really leaves off on a cliffhanger. That said, what is here in season 1 is definitely worth it on it’s own. 

Prison School - Dear god, this show is either not your cup of tea or it will awaken things in you that you may wish had not come to light. Just go look at the art for this show and it will tell you everything you need to know about if you will like it or not. Personally, I want a season 2 lol. 

Shimoneta - Imagine a world where every dirty thought, phrase, printed, recorded bit of sexual content was fully banned by the government. Enter the sexual terrorists here to share what sex is and spread ALL THE INNUENDOS!

Fall:

One Punch Man - What an amazing first season! It’s both an amazing sakuga-fest and a case study on a possible Hero society when popularity and money become the key allures. An absolutely fantastic show that takes AOTS. 

Chivalry of a Failed Knight - I love this show. I have a very very soft spot for underdog stories where they overcome and become as strong as they envision themselves to be. HeroAca, Black Clover, hell Naruto to a degree are all in this vein. This show takes that idea and mixes a very decent romance into it. Add to that a fun sword-based power system and you have a really solid show. One of my personal favorites. Hope for a season 2 some day. Gotta get to that tournament arc!

Haikyuu!! (S2) - The fight to get to nationals continues. Some of the best physical movement animation that I’ve ever seen. S3 is the best season but this is just slightly behind it.  

Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid - Yurification! Yurification! Yurification! Lesbian pairs where one is the weapon and the other the weilder. The girl turns into the weapon when she’s aroused and orgasms. It’s absolutely ridiculous, but also pretty hot. So, YMMV. 

So we have Death Parade from Winter, Shokugeki no Souma from Spring, Overlord from Summer, and OPM from Fall. These are all fantastic show, but I’m going to have to use my personal bias to settle this with Shokugeki no Souma taking 2015s Anime of the Year.

A few that I like a lot are Undertale, Hyperdimension Neptunia, Final Fantasy, Portal, Earthbound, Yandere Simulator, The Sakura series (could you consider Visual Novels as games? idk, I’ll put it here anyway??), Metroid, Touhou, Legend of Zelda, and a bunch more that I think of on top of my head (send me some asks of any more games that you think I might like)

I love memes, even a few stale memes too (not all). Me and my best friend randomly bring up any meme that comes to our heads during class or our free time. “We Are Number One”, “Dat Boi” and “ Mr Skeltal” are quite frequent for us lol

Drawing is a hobby of mine but I wish that I was able to do it more, but depression is a bitch sometimes and I just lack any motivation for it. There’s that and loads of coursework for school. 

I also really like watching anime, but I haven’t really got the time recently. I’m currently watching Yuru Yuri, Shimoneta (I can’t be bothered to put the whole title), Assassination classroom season 2 and hyperdimension neptunia: the animation. 

I don’t exactly have a job yet, but I am seeking one. It is very difficult and it makes me sad

I have been diagnosed with ADD, anxiety and depression in the past, but I don’t let those define who I am. I am willing to listen to people who are going through the same things I am. I am not a therapist though, but I do like to listen to your problems and try my best to help you out.

FUNimation drops newly-added anime, Interspecies Reviewers?

This smells scandalous, I must watch!”

It’s very, very, VERY rare that an anime licensor drops an anime that’s currently airing in Japan and doing it weeks after announcing a full release (no pun intended), plus a friggin’ English dub. And where there’s controversy, I will be there to sniff it out…eventually. I think I can squeeze one more anime to watch on a week-by-week basis. Hell, I shoved Domestic Girlfriend in at last minute in 2019 right in the middle of moving to a different state. I think I can handle a little anime like this. What could possibly go wr…?!

Oh fluffies! This escalated quickly!

So…Interspecies Reviewers is about a human name Stunk and an elf named Zel. They go around to brothels, spend some time with the ladies of the evening known as Succu-girls (because these girls suck you), and review their “encounter” with them for a tavern full of curious males. Stunk and Zel want to go around and conquer as many species, discovering all new kinks and fetishes, fondle all kinds of jiggly-bits and naughty bits from cow-girls, cat-girls, skeleton girls, succubis, fire salamanders girls, elves, fairies, slimes, demons, bird-maidens, cyclops, and oh-so many others. This is a vast world and there’s only so many brothels these men can tackle at a time.

Oh yeah, there’s also an angel named Crim. Stunk and Zel saved Crim, but Crim can’t go back to Heaven since his halo is busted. Although now, I doubt if he’ll ever get entry back into Heaven after being defiled by a cat-woman. I mean who among us haven’t lost our virginity to a cat-eared girl on a whim?

So there you have it! A human, an elf, and an angel walk into a brothel and…that’s the anime!

BETWEEN THE SUB AND THE DUUUUUU…..UH-OH: The sub was fine and I’m gonna leave it there with the subtitle version. As for the dub…What dub? There’s no dub! Dubs are just a myth here! Like I said before, FUNimation DID have this series. Emphasis on “DID”! They released the first 3 episodes in their normal week-by-week fashion, no worries there. They promised an English dub and released one episode dubbed, sounds about right! But then one night, they just drop this series!

Funimation on Jan. 31: After careful consideration, we determined that this series falls outside of our standards. We have the utmost respect for our creators so rather than substantially alter the content, we felt taking it down was the most respectful choice.

Did you, FUNimation? Or was it Sony pulling the strings? But I’m getting ahead of myself here. A wide variety of things could have sprung this on! One reason could be that the voice actors felt uncomfortable with the material. I know some voice actors from FUNimation are a little skeptical here and if they voice something that’s borderline Hentai or IS HENTAI, they’ll use an alias name so that no one would be the wiser. I know it’s a job and money’s on the table here, but people are people. They have morals and boundaries! Not everyone can have the bravery to voice act in a Hentai like Dan Green (he totally did, you should look it up).

Another theory, Sony and/or FUNimation were being cautious and don’t want to air something so extreme in the naughty department. But if that were the case, how do you account for your full releases of High School DxD, Panty & Stocking, Conception, Keijo!!!!!!!!, Shimoneta, My Girlfriend is a Gal, and A Sister is All You Need? Then again, these animes were made and released prior to Sony buying FUNimation. But as of recent, FUNimation is streaming works from Aniplex of America that are kinda questionable. Where I’m going with this is that weeks after dropping Interspecies Reviewers, they add shows like Nisemonogatari AND Eromanga Sensei to their site. Ahem! Guys, where were those “STANDARDS” you were talking about earlier? Eromanga Sensei is downright illegal! Then again, none of these titles really reached full-blown bestiality like this series does! I mean, Sentai Filmworks happily released Monster Musume and that was borderline bestiality. But whatever, you guys do you!

Then again, no series has gone the distance by having several sex scenes per episode with the uncensored version going beyond the boundary quite like this.

Yeah…in this “woke AF” time we’re living in, if an anime doesn’t have an advisory stated at the beginning of an episode with lewd or controversial scenes, people lose their shit. Hence, Goblin Slayer’s debut and that one Sword Art Online episode! Whatever the case, now that FUNimation dropped this series, I don’t expect it to get picked up by any other licensor and it’ll probably remain in license limbo forever. There were a few voice actors set up to be in this anime including Monica Rial, Brittney Karbowski, and Amber Lee Connors. Only one episode was dubbed and good luck finding it now! But after this, I doubt these folks would ever finish what they started. And that’s a shame, because FUNimation voice actors have a knack for turning an anime dirty. Especially if you hire Monica Rial or Jamie Marchi (or both)!

I know every season, there’s a fight between American licensors in what animes they’re going to grab and show to their subscribers. FUNimation really could have taken a few extra minutes to do a little research on this one before jumping in a pool where the water is replaced by naked half-species chicks. For fuck’s sake, there’s a manga to this! Although, I’ve heard that the manga doesn’t even go this far! So this is disproving my rant! Let me just finish by saying that FUNimation really fucked up here. You could have streamed the series censored, have an age confirmation to watch the uncensored version, and then release that later down the line! But dropping Interspecies Reviewers has unleashed a fury of pissed off viewers who ended up trolling MyAnimeList and other websites. Yeah, thanks a lot! Those were some idiotic days on the internet! With all of that said, here’s what you might recognize these folks from.

Actually, I really think the boys have a special place in their hearts for Meidri. I’m only basing this on episode 6 where the boys go to the Golem brothel to “Build-a-Bitch” and out of all the figures, ladies, and ways to build a bitch, their little Halfling friend builds a golem replica of Meidri. Maybe it’s because she’s familiar or they’re curious in case they end up having sex with Meidri in the future or if the Halfling has a thing for Meidri! I just know all four boys ended up fucking a golem in the likeness of Meidri AND gave it a great score.

But aside from that, there’s really nothing more to say except Stunk has a thing for that 500 year old fairy and Zel has a thing for a 60+ year old human.

IT’S FUN TO STAY AT THE…: It’s obvious that Japan has a thing for music made outside of the country. Especially those made in America (and England)! Recent examples are animes like Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Eden of the East, and A Silent Voice actually using songs from groups like The Bangles, Oasis, and The Who. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THOSE TIMES!

The OP song for this series is literally Y.M.C.A. except about getting your dick up to fuck!

And you know what? That was another missed fucking opportunity for FUNimation! This song could have gotten an English dub. Normally I despise it when English companies give an English dub to perfectly good opening and endings from Japan. But this would have been the ONE exception. GOD! Only in my dreams!

OH THIS IS WRONG: I don’t mean aspects of this anime! I’ve gotten used to the sex scenes and the shock factor of watching actual hentai at this point. Surprisingly, the one thing that got my feathers ruffled is at the end of some of the episodes where we get a small segment from a gentleman named Professor Ookina or Professor Poke if you will.

LOOK AT THIS FUCKING MAN!

Pokemon, why haven’t you sued yet? This is a sexual version of Professor Oak’s end-of-the-episode lectures. Unshou Ishizuka’s probably rolling over in his grave either from laughter, disgust, or that he didn’t live long enough to voice this colorful character. I haven’t settled on which to believe in!

ENDING: The last few episodes we saw a few interesting storylines. For one, we’ve got one brothel where all four adventurers gave the ladies a unanimous 10/10. Spend three days with the clones of a powerful woman and just all-around perfect scores. That is just unheard of! Even in the anime reviewing community, a perfect anime doesn’t exist. So stop trying to turn Interspecies Reviewers into the next Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. OKAY?! Not gonna happen! Just stop it! Stop it.

Then we had a gentleman who has generously been giving previous ladies of the evening perfect scores. This dude loves the ladies and sees the positives in all of them giving them all a perfect score. And I guess that does bring up a good point here.

Different strokes for different blokes! Not everyone is going to have the same taste as you. Stunk might have a thing for 500-year old fairies while Zel finds her old and disgusting. Zel might have a thing for Mitsue while Stunk finds banging 60-year old human whores repulsive. That’s where reviewers come in. They say the good and the bad when it comes to reviewing (insert profession here). In the case of this series, the boys have different tastes and when going to a foreign brothel, some of the ladies customs might confuse and weird out the boys. But in most cases, they had fun (except that afternoon watching girls laid eggs). So I’m glad Stunk and Zel found fault with the dude who gives 10/10’s like candy.

The final episode felt a little nostalgic as we revisit a race we haven’t seen since episode 2. Stunk and Zel find a business card for a demon brothel. They WERE supposed to go over and review the demon girls...

...but got side-tracked by the big-tit cowgirls.

Better late than never, but at least the demon brothel got some decent reviews by the boys. Good since demons are rated quite low in what men want to bang.

Then, the boys celebrate New Years by hitting up a good brothel to start the New Year off right. You know, start it off with a bang! It’s just that a lot of the popular brothels and Stunk’s regular hangouts are all booked up for the night. Lot of horny John’s on New Years! So the boys end up in a dream eater brothel. These girls take on the form of their dream succu-girl and believe it or not, the reviewers were very pleased. Almost like a pleasant dream!

Now conclusion wise, we really didn’t get Crim’s halo fixed nor did we go to Heaven to see Zel and Stunk get it on with some freaky angels. Instead, we get the same intro we got in episode one, reminding us that there are a barrage of brothels out there in this world and a bunch of succu-girls ready to suck your dicks off. And as long as we have succu-girls and brothels, there will always be reviewers like Stunk, Zel, and Crim to bust a nut! And I think Stunk is now going to visit his father’s harem now. Yeah, his old man has a harem. So there’s that! Too bad we’re not going to see that story.

I got to say…this wasn’t all that bad. In fact, I really liked this anime. And I’m usually rough on borderline-Hentai programs (and not in the good way). I am impressed at the creative way these men review these ladies and the brothels they work in. As an anime reviewer, I have to admire this. To take it all in with how these guys approach something such as having a one-night stand with a succu-girl! Each episode was a new experience with a new lady, sometimes two new brothels in the same episode. After their nights with a succu-girl, their reviews…actually, it’s best to watch it instead of taking my word for it.

NOW THEN! This is by no means on Top-Tier levels of Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. So you people on MyAnimeList better knock it the fuck off! Yes, FUNimation dropped the ball by dropping this series when they’ve clearly licensed and dubbed WORSE. But owning them this way is just going to come off as weird when we look back at this years later and laugh. On top of which, FUNimation wasn’t the only one that dropped Interspecies Reviewers. Amazon Prime and at least three television stations in Japan dropped this series in the middle of its run.

Oh good God this was a fun and bizarre ride and it was fun while it lasted. Come on y’all, face the facts. There is no way this anime is ever gonna get a second season unless they absolutely censor the fuck out of it over in Japan. Look at all the Japanese channels that dropped this series not even halfway into the run! The best I’m hoping for is an OVA release. That way they can show us all the sex and nipples they want. But a season two? You’d have a better chance getting a Haruhi Suzumiya continuation! Yeah, I said it and I ain’t taking it back! Despite it not being available anywhere in the states, I advise my anime friends and followers to at least give this a chance (as long as you’re not grossed out by sexual discourse).

Thoughts: Darling in the Franxx

So today marked the last episode of the series ‘Darling in the Franxx’, the show that had been, pun intended, the darling of the last two seasons of anime. People have loved it, hated it, or been wishing it could have been something more. Having now watched it from start to finish, I’m gonna get some general thoughts down after the cut. I honestly could have done this a few weeks ago, as those thoughts haven’t changed, but I wanted to wait until all was said and done until I did so.

If I could sum up Darling in the Franxx in one sentence it would be this: The show didn’t know what it wanted to be.

It is clear that the creators were massive fans of the hit mecha shows of the last decade, and took the parts they liked, threw them in a blender and decided that was the show. Several times during the 24 episodes run I felt the overall thesis, the major point of what Franxx was kept changing.

First I’m thinking it’s a knock-off of Eureka Seven.

Then I’m thinking it’s some weird Evangelion homage.

Then when the Eureka Seven like romance is more or less put to bed by the halfway point, the show decides it’s gonna make a point political point about Japan’s rising birthing crisis.

Then VRIM shows up and everything goes to hell.

Almost all good or decent animes have and use several different themes or ideas, but there is one overall general MO that can sum up what the show is about. 

Full Metal Alchemist: Don’t try and play god.

Naruto: The perseverance of a boy who got a really raw deal in life.

Dragon Ball: Never settling for what you are and always breaking your limit.

Shimoneta: Trying to erase sex and sexuality will never ever work that way you hope.

High School DxD: Don’t judge a book by its cover.

Cardcaptor Sakura: Innocence 

Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: Family and companionship rock.

All of those shows and more can really be summed up by what I have listed. Franxx though? Franxx really never did have any idea what it’s overall message was, and what it wanted to talk about. The closest thing I can think of is again, a commentary on the declining birthrate of Japan (a very real and serious problem they are facing). That’s a great idea, that’s a cool issue to explore and unpack, but Franxx decides to go in knee deep, then completely abandon that premise for a late game ‘aliens did it all along’ twist that feels completely out of left field. Seriously man, like JESUS. While this final episode does go back around to the idea of children and the importance of having them, Franxx drops the ball by not fully committing to that idea.

However, there are some good moments, an, in fact, Darling in the Franxx is a show that is full of great individual moments and episodes. When Franxx wanted to go into the characters and their reactions of the world and events they experienced I was always hooked, but when they tried to string those together into an overall plot, the show just fell apart completely.

Watching the last episode in a vacuum, I left feeling touched and satisfied, but looking at Darling in the Franxx as a whole, I can’t help but feel that it stumbled and struggled to be something it wasn’t capable of being. Maybe they needed more episodes, maybe they needed a better writer, or maybe they just really needed to commit to a single overarching theme. While Hiro and Zero-Two’s relationship could have been that, it stops and starts over too many times throughout the show’s run. (Seriously, it gets resolved at the halfway point, things are good for a while, then we are supposed to get all invested again with no real build up)

I enjoyed Darling in the Franxx the entire way through. It’s not a bad show at all, it’s got good characters, great art, unique mecha designs, a wonderful opening theme and is full of good moments. However many viewers, including myself see the potential it had to become something great, especially in this drought of mecha shows ever since the Isekai (another world stories) boom. In that sense, it’s disappointing, but it not enraging.

So yeah, those are my thoughts on Trigger and A1′s Darling in the Franxx. I enjoyed it, flaws and all, and I hope the writers and animations are able to take on the good they learned and have another swing. They got the stuff, let’s just see what they can do.

B Tier: Love Tyrant: Part 2

Love Tyrant’s main cast is what makes or breaks this show. While an anime like Infinite Stratos or Date A Live depend on their plots and premise to carry the story forward, Love Tyrant has more in common with something like Majikoi, in where everything is centered around the characters and the actions and interactions around them.

In general terms, the main cast of Love Tyrant is pretty boilerplate standard, each of them seems to incorporate one or two personality traits, which they bounce off of the other characters. There is little depth or hidden meaning behind them, which can be disappointing, but Love Tyrant makes up for it by having their characters be good at what they are. Let’s get into our main three after the cut.

Seiji Aino

Seiji is our main male lead, and probably the least interesting out of the cast. However, that is meant to be the point, as Seiji’s entire character is based on him reacting to how his life is being thrown out of control by Guri. Seiji himself has no real depth or interesting features to him. He’s a nice guy, he sees the best in people, and he’s normal. In fact, out of all the harem protagonists I’ve seen, Seiji is probably the most normal out of them all. He doesn’t have special powers, some hidden connection to a family, and neither is he the lone male who has the power to keep the girls in life. Seiji is just a dude, a guy who by some insane twist of fate crosses path with Guri.

The only real noticeable thing from Seiji is his initial relationship with Akane. He had a crush on her for years but failed to act on it because he believed Akane, the school idol, and the most popular female was completely out of his leg. Little does he knows that his admiration at a distance was what made Akane fall in love with him. It is probably the most interesting part of his character, but because of Guri, there is little chance to see how it might have played out normally. 

So yeah, Seiji is your standard normal guy, but that works for this show. If Seiji was anything else it would clash against the wild personalities and antics of the two female leads. He is the audience PoV character, giving us a vessel to react to everything that is happening. For this, he does it well, but I do wish there was a bit more to him, but it is not a deal breaker.

Akane Hiyama

Akane is very much like Anna from Shimoneta, I could just have you watch this video and call it a day.

Akane herself is a character who could have had an entire show just for her. As one of our two Yandere’s, Akane’s whole gist is that she loves Seiji a lot. And I mean A LOT. However, unlike Shimoneta’s Anna, who was so repressed in her feelings that she didn’t know how to properly react, Akane will go from zero to one hundred the instant she thinks anyone is trying to make a move on her Seiji.

Akane is hilarious, mostly because of the reveal of her yandere tendencies help differ her from other female leads in the genres. Most of the female harem leads often take the role of the Tsundere, the girl who is clearly in love with the male lead but has to be cold or indifferent because of either pride or fear. Akane however straight up admits she’s in love with Seiji and will do anything to keep him to herself. While other shows have shown a darker side of the yandere, Love Tyrant opts to make it more comedic. With endless amounts of kukuri knives and one over the top reaction after another, she is the perfect foil against the more mischievous Guri. While her feelings are genuine, and the show does go into her backstory, Akane doesn’t have much else going for her, but what she brings is more than good enough.

Guri

The final of the main leads. Guri again could have carried the entire show herself, and in fact, often is locked in a battle with Akane for the most memorable lead. Though being voiced by actress Jad Saxton (High School DxD ’s motor-mouthed Koneko) puts her over the edge for me. 

Guri’s entire shtick is that she is a naive girl who plays with love, but has no real understanding of it. She will happily pair couples in her kiss note, but she herself has no idea what love is like, or how it affects people. Guri is also, however, a goblin, a prankster, and a ball of whirlwind energy that comes in and upends the lives of Akane, Seiji and others. I mean, just watch some of these moments.

Guri, like Akane, is pretty much one hilarious moment after another. Whether it is dressing up a ghostbuster, stealing kisses from Seiji, or pairing off gay male couples in order to fulfill her quota, Guri is simply chaos made into human form. Yet she is also the center of what Love Tyrant is trying to talk about: what love is and how we come to realize it. In the few times, she is not fighting with Akane, Guri is told that she needs to learn what the feelings of love are, and to understand why someone like Akane would fall for a normal nobody like Seiji. The entire finale of the anime is pretty much Guri coming to terms with the entire concept of romance, and how it is not something that can be just created or forced.

Love Tyrant’s characters are pretty much as advertised on the box. I wish I could write more, but there isn’t really anything else to say. These characters work because they play off each other, but again there isn’t anything I could find that warranted going any deeper. That is not bad, not everything you watch has to have some deeper meaning, and these characters are good enough at what they do that you’ll remember them.
