Nova what are your thoughts on your neighbors so far?

(they're pretty nice actually. Even though I've only met Ms. Lila and her son so far...)

Nova trails off thought...

Nova had wiped the sweat off of her forehead. She had just gotten around to unpacking her boxes. Although she didn't own a lot. She did find herself with things she considered as souvenirs. Mainly consisting of old family photos.

She sighed wistfully, petting her sleeping dog's fur. She still remembers the year she got Yuki. Five years ago. And yet it felt like yesterday.

There was a knock on the door, shaking her from her thoughts. Careful not to disturb Yuki, she got up from her bed and went to answer the door. She looked through the peephole seeing a woman and a small kid. The woman had purple hair, which Nova found cool. She did want to try and dyed her hair. Or maybe have pastel streaks in it.

She opened the door to greet them. "Hello there! I am Lila and this is my son" the woman said as she ruffled the boy's hair."Hi! I'm Skid!" The boy chirped and waved.Nova waved back. She then took out her notepad and pen from her pocket and began to write. Hi! Nice to meet you. I am Nova.

"We just wanted to stop by and welcome you to the neighborhood! We hope you love it here!" Lila said, handing her a cake. Nova accepted the gift with a smile and a thank you. "Wishing you, the best, settling in. If you need any help, please let us know."

Nova nodded. Sure thing. And thanks for the cake.

"No Problem" Lila smiled back. Then her face lit up as if remembering something. "One last thing, if you would like to join us for dinner."

Nova thought for a moment. She didn't really have much in mind to eat. Having to eat from fast food place until she could get time to buy groceries. And even if she did have food in her cupboards, she didn't want to be rude and decline. She liked how kind her new neighbors were.

I would love to! Just give me a moment to put this away. 

Her neighbor nodded and waited patiently for her to return. Of course, being neighbors meant their houses weren't far from each other. Infact, Lila's was right across from Nova's.

They chatted for a while. Exchanging brief things about each other. Lila was an architect. She did know a bit of ASL. But she was rusty on it, not having a chance to converse with someone with it. She briefly met her neighbor's mother…. Who probably has seen better days. Still Nova didn't forget her manners and bid her a good evening.

Somehow, Nova found herself sharing a bit about how she liked her new home and how everything despite being almost small was quaint and peaceful. A better change in pace for her. 

"If you don't mind me asking, how was the last town you lived in like?" Lila said as they got around to eating the meal she prepared.

There's not much to say, I suppose. Nova tapped her pen in thought.

"Oh?"

I did have plans for college. But it fell through. I moved hoping to get a better start somewhere else. Some place that is more peaceful and not stressful. She stopped writing abruptly wallowing further into her thoughts.

Nova frowned a bit. Although she had wanted to go to college, she had prioritized moving out of her dad's house first. 

"I didn't mean to bring up a touchy subject" Lila began. Nova held up her hand in reassurance. 

It's alright. Honestly. So far I am liking this place. So it's not all bad. 

"Mom I am done eating now" skid said, placing his fork down. In such a short time, he managed to clear his plate. He was already pushing his chair at the table. "I have to get ready for the spookiest day of the spooky month!"

Nova gave a questioning look. Lila cleared her throat. "It's what he and his friend call Halloween," she explains. 

Wait, really? The blonde writes surprised. She hadn't paid much attention to the calendar when she moved. But that would explain the decorations that were everywhere at least. 

"Yeah he does this every year" Lila continues. "It's his favorite holiday."

 They watch as Skid runs upstairs....

Andddd some possessed Lila doodles from one of the many many ideas my friends gave me. Its easy to tell when Mira is possessing someone bc of their eyes. And their tears. She isn't a revengeful spirit.

I think it's kind of interesting that Viktor is overshadowed by his siblings both in the canon and fanon.

In season one I could understand it. Despite Viktor being the main character that literally drives the entire plot, everyone focuses on the other characters. People make fun of Luther for talking about the moon all the time. Everyone is almost creepily obsessed with Klaus and the Vietnam fling that he had. No one really talks about Allison, but her story is primarily linked with Viktor's since she's trying to heal their relationship (fandom misogyny too). I think that there's a decent amount of talk around Five since he's such a fascinating character. There's quite a lot of talking about Diego too, since he loses Eudora and spends a lot of time trying to take care of Klaus. But no one really talks about Viktor and the amount of shit that he goes through in s1. All the siblings other than Allison completely abandon him too, and Allison only wants the idea of a 'sister' that she's built up in her head since she lost her husband and daughter.

In season two, it makes even less sense to not talk about what Viktor has done. He has a queer love story with Sissy and we get to see way more development and chemistry for, Klaus and Dave had a montage and some sad lines from Klaus as opposed to an entire arc through ten episodes, but no one really does anything with it. Allison gets basically no attention for the same fandom misogyny issues as before. Five gets some attention because of the fact that he's exhausted and still dealing with the Commission (his fight scenes are amazing). Diego gets the same treatment as Luther did but a little more deserving because the plan to save JFK was stupid. Luther gets totally sidelined and ignored too, but people really hated him in S1 so I'm not surprised. Klaus gets all the attention again even though his plot outside of Ben possessing him is honestly really boring and makes me so uncomfortable.

Season three is where Viktor should have gotten the most attention. If we're considering the fact that the TUA fandom has a very queer audience, then they should be super excited and celebrating the fact that Viktor is trans. Not only that, but he's also working his ass off so that he can fix things for Allison and get her back to a timeline where her daughter exists or back to the sixties. I think a lot of people ignore that, giving Five more credit than he deserves for trying to fix the world when Viktor was doing that until Harlan showed up and he wanted to handle that first. A lot of attention during the debut went again to Klaus, which was actually warranted this time since he was plot relevant by showing us things about Reggie and discovering his powers. Diego got more attention since he was parenting Stan and fighting with Lila, which was nice. Five got some meme attention but nothing serious and Luther got a little bit of genuine love. But mostly people just posted the conversation where Viktor comes out to his family and continued to ignore him.

Now Season four is out and no one cares about Viktor. He stands up to Reginald and says all of the things that he needs to say, he fights like Hell to try and save Ben from the Durango and get him someplace stable, he owns a bar and got fucking KIDNAPPED. No one is talking about him, all people are doing is complaining about fivela and the ending.

Viktor moved to Nova Scotia probably to get better trans healthcare, but also because none of his siblings care about him. My man is a tiny trans man that got kidnapped and ransomed off the street and they couldn't care less about him when they show up, Five is taking notes about the room they're in instead of checking to make sure that his childhood best friend is okay. Luther may have made him best man at his wedding, but it was just because Viktor had only just come out and all the other siblings were non options (never been close with Five, butted heads with Diego who didn't even want the wedding to happen, not their Ben, and Klaus was officiating) which was the same reason Lila was Sloane's maid of honor. Diego and Viktor barely spare two words at each other despite their closeness in the comics. Lila and Allison say something briefly to him before they also fuck off further into the plot.

Viktor isn't liked by his family despite them trying to include him in it when it's convenient for them, and he's also disliked by the fandom. I went into the TUA tag and about half of the top twenty posts were about someone else with him tacked on as an afterthought.

I'm also so confused on place in s4 of Umbrella Academy.

The mansion, as always, is set in some sort of alternative New York, in the same way Gotham City was. Fine.

Viktor is specifically placed in Nova Scotia and 'it's a long drive' to go see the rest of his family. I understand how he got there. Fine.

But Lila's family are all based in East London. Or, they ALL magically moved to the same city as the mansion? What are the odds on that in a universe where they are not connected at all? But since Diego and Lila live close enough to visit with them, we can assume they are (or should be) in East London with Lila's family.

Allison and Claire (and presumably now Klaus) are in Los Angeles. We're told several times throughout the entire series that it's far enough from the mansion that Allison has to take a plane to get home.

That town holding Jennifer captive is clearly not set where the Mansion and rest of the story is set, because they have to drive that stupid van there to get there.

Five and Lila work for the CIA, which is apparently based n Langley, Virginia.

The end credits have most of the people they've known all in the same park. The Swedes (obviously from Sweden) are in the park, along with the Handler, Grace (who was from Texas? and, like, several decades ago?), the people from the Commission, Hazel, etc. as well as Lila and Diego's children, and Claire. And Five's mannequin?!?!? for some reason.

But the show just treats it as though this is basically the only city in existence, and everyone they've ever met lives there. Which could have actually worked if they'd alluded to the fact that Hargreaves made it this way when he created the new time line-- except that Viktor is in Nova Scotia, so that blows that theory.

It's not that important, it's just one of the many things about this season that shows just how lazy the writing was, how little they thought any of this out, and how little effort they put into making this season make even a tiny amount of sense.

something that only amuses me about the umbrella academy season four was how obviously funded by the canadian government it was,

it always was, with the umbrella academy being filmed in toronto/hamilton and features some prominent canadian actors (not even in the main cast)

but in this one they just laid it on thick with

-viktor’s bar being in nova scotia- page’s home province

-allison telling viktor “sorry you left canada for this”

-that characters whose name i already forget being from fucking red deer lol

-featuring the tragically hip on the sound track

and i’m pretty sure five and lila’s seven years in the subway was just a normal ttc commute

Snippet Sunday

It's Sunday and I have a snippet from Stowaway Savior. It's fresh, it's juicy, it may make you say "damn it!"

anyway...it's under the break.

Lila woke on a small cot mounted to the wall of an empty cell. Her whole body ached and head throbbed. She blinked, her vision slowly coming into focus. As she moved on the cot she realized her suit was gone, which meant all her gear was gone too. A small groan leaked from her lips.

“Ah, you’re awake,” a man’s voice said through a speaker.

Lila looked over to see a familiar face through a clear helmet visor smiling back at her, “Impressed you let me live, Vega.”

“You’re no use to me dead,” he shrugged, “how else would I collect the rest of your miserable clan?”

“What makes you think you can hold me?” she pushed herself up. He tilted his head and spread his hands, “the Emissary was honest and clever. She taught us how to properly cage a starborn like you. How to set sophisticated mechanisms to stop your lot from using your powers.”

“Oh?” she leaned forward, “and what would that be?”

“There are sensors throughout this whole ship that can detect even the weakest use of starborn powers. If a sensor is tripped the life support fails. The crew is under orders to stay in their suits so they’ll be fine but you…you need those systems.”

Lila blinked again, her headache increasing with the new information. “A sufficient enough blast of starborn energy, say a nova blast? That will cause whatever hab the blast occurred to depressurize.” He sounded very proud, “If you were smart you’d sit put.”

“You think I’d just sit here and let you hunt my kids?” She shouted, her voice tinkling with a crystal edge.

“You think either of them are alive?” Vega raised an eyebrow, “Agent Stone hit that obnoxious thorn in my side with a mixture of toxins designed to take down terrormorphs. And the xenofreak? Even if she had some piloting knowledge, the Liberation successfully destroyed engines and landing gears. She likely nosedived into whatever planet she ran to.”

Lila shook with rage as he talked but was unable to act.

“Let me put it to you this way: you can throw a tantrum and airlock yourself if you desire, I won’t stop you. But if you do that you run the risk of endangering billions of lives. If you sit tight we will be able to collect your feral partner soon enough and then we can focus our attention on the Key. If you lose your cool we won’t have the proper bait and your feral partner will raise an army for slaughter.”

“We’ve won the last three major conflicts against the UC, what makes you think you have an edge now?” Lila asked.

Vega chuckled, “We have friends among your allies. Friends who do not agree with the Council’s decision to work with pirates. If the Fleet musters an army then our friends will begin framing the Fleet, sabotaging stations and settlements in Freestar space. But none of that will happen if you sit tight. Think of all those innocent lives you’ll protect by cooperating.”
