I saw a poll somewhere that was asking how many people thought Marvel heroes kill. Now, I’m for heroes killing no-one, I think the idea that Superman sees no killing as a guideline is utter bullshit, and so is the idea that killing makes heroes more grounded and realistic.
Anyway, it asked who do you think kills the most? It included Captain America and Black Widow, and some others that made sense.
Someone made a comment that, Captain America, being a soldier in WW2, was dropping bodies left and right, and I disagree. Sort of.
I think the reasoning that being a soldier means he kills people is a bit flimsy. However, I do think he kills. You see, in the first Captain America comic with Red Skull, Red Skull wields some kind of death-syringe, and lunges at Bucky in a final fight! But he eventually hits himself reaching for the needle, which Cap could have prevented. Bucky asks Cap why he didn’t stop Red Skull from killing himself. His response:
“I’m not talking, Bucky!”
Oh, Captain America definitely kills. He kills Nazis.
That’s where I agree, but, in reference to another of my favorite comics characters, Lobster Johnson, one might say that maybe Captain America doesn’t kill people.
Maybe like Lobster Johnson, he doesn’t kill men.
He kills mad dogs.
