the last thing that beverly wanted to do was explain it enough so that lola would truly understand it. somehow she knew it would make her look more cowardly than she already felt. "it's easier this way." it was a cop out version of trying to help the situation, a phrase that left her feeling hollow as she uttered it. "if we end things now it might prevent it hurting more later." as if it wasn't crushing her already.

my ideal modern day top cat reboot (not just tc and/or the gang serving as side characters in an ensemble cast in a hanna-barbera crossover cartoon) would be like,

tc and benny are the same as they always are (selfish hedonistic get-rich-quick schemer and his naive childhood bff enabler)

myra and sheldon live in the city and periodically get involved in tc shenanigans! myra is very much so a neurotic worrywart who is constantly freaking out over the ways her twin brother's schemes can backfire. sheldon didnt really have a solid characterization in his book so maybe he can have jellystone fancy's personality?

kitty glitter from top cat and the beverly hills cats can be recurring because i like her <3 to me shes so lupin-iii-sadgirl coded

lola glamour gets to appear now and then and gets to be so annoyingly sappy pda with choo choo. has a lot of mentions and cameos though cuz shes still a star and shes dating choo choo who adores her childhood best friend turned lover <3 <3 <3

dibbles ex-wife periodically shows up and tc hates her soooooo much which is ironic because theyre kind of parallels. foils. the same but different. i would emphasize them being so similar and in fact that she reminded him of tc is why he married her and she does not like that one bit. self indulgent but i really dont care <3

i think they should have two kids (fred and daniel, based on comic dibble's names) just because i think it'd be funny as fuck. am i making him even more like zenigata? sure but my justification is dibble is a little league coach and camp counselor which is stereotypically things dads do to connect with their kids :P

jazz and beau can be recurring antagonists with their own gang that being dark parallels to tc's gang. teehee.

trixie from the first movie can be a recurring character too but only if shes an irredeemable antagonist in jazz's gang. the rest of jazz's gang consists of pantera from top cat begins, rocky from the comics, and skratch gets to exist separate from spook.

i guess griswald could be recurring since he had two eps and in the comics there was a recurring antagonist who was a bulldog but i dont care enough about griswald to expand on that idea

cop cat from the comics can be griswald's partner although i think he needs a better name than "cop cat" ... maybe fuse him with officer prowler so he gets a cooler name. idk

okay she moves to socal to go to pepperdine college specifically because her earliest fashion role model was lola from zoey 101 , but still somehow graduates with a business degree ( and wears a gold , bejewled cap and gown ). then she moves to beverly hills on her dad's dime where she meets her ❝ trophy husband ❞ , who's like a really famous actor but quits acting entirely for her and lets her take his spotlight ( a la robert kardashian/kris jenner ). and then she starts a fashion label with her newfound fame and fortune and also becomes a supermodel and walks in her own shows , and eventually she does bite the bullet and go into makeup and skin care.

in terms of, like now? 2023? well.

jason's still in topanga, but getting ready to start splitting his time back east when brown retires next summer. jason is feeling a lot of honor and excitement about taking over as camp director, but there's also so much overwhelming anxiety. how do you do right by the place that made you who you are? how do you communicate to the kids who look to you for guidance that you're here because you never stopped being them?

nate's still in laurel canyon. he got out of a long term relationship about about a year ago and is back in his twinkbachelor roots, but something doesn't really feel the same to him this time around. he's been writing a lot, feeling wistful in a way he's kinda kept at bay most his life. he'll probably get an album out of this year, but next year is when things really start to change for him. (there's a moment at the beverly hills farmers market. it's very romcom. it's followed with "no no no, you are not using our daughter to pick up guys." "shane stop being a homophobe and give your brother the diaper bag.") caitlyn's in sherman oaks, working out of a studio she put up just off ventura and making decent money doing it. she's landed some hits, but it's hard being a female producer in an industry that overwhelmingly favors male creatives even for female acts. when you google search caitlyn, a lot of what you'll find is her presence on panels about being a woman in music tied together with some song titles you could probably hum a few bars of. she's mostly happy. she likes that mitchie is hanging around a lot more now that she's in this weird limbo between graduating from her PhD and actually starting a career in academia after the baby gets here. (the further they get from that limbo, the more isolated caitlyn feels. it's hard being a woman in music, but it's also just hard being a woman. it's hard being a non heteronormative woman. it's hard being a woman in your 30s.) but, mitchie and caitlyn shared a box at the brandi carlile show last week with a girl caitlyn's been seeing, and held each other and swayed and sang every song together, like they always have. caitlyn loved every minute.

tess is in new york. she's been in new york since she left caitlyn sitting alone in what was their silverlake apartment august 2018. her trust fund got her a two bedroom in soho and her connections got her a pretty decent record deal that put her somewhere between "lesbian cult singer" and "pop girlie (traditional)." she has two cats and a group of friends she does a weekly family style dinner with. she ran into lola in line at sweetgreen for the first time in oh, so many years, and it made her feel this sickly sort of sad. she called caitlyn about it. they talked for hours. the sun came up, and they talked some more.
