“You wanna know how I know how mean you are? ‘Cause I’m mean. I’m smart and I’m mean, and you’re smart and you’re mean. And you never get caught and I never get caught.” biitchcurls

"Are you? Are you mean?" Mary's voice is nasty, almost snarling, and she fixes Darla with a gaze that's searching. Her fingernails dig in to Darla's wrists, pinning her back against the wall — she can't stand it, in that moment, the sense of being known, of being replicated.
Look like th’innocent flower, But be the serpent under’t—
"So what? Is that all you wanted? Huh? To come here and tell me we're the same?"

Snektember Day 06: Snekspeare
“Your face, my thane, is as a book where men may read strange matters.”
If snakes could roll their eyes...
“To beguile the time, look like the time.”
Gag.
“Bear welcome in your eye, your hand, your tongue.”
His teeth? Fangs, preferably. Not that they’d feel very welcome.
“Look like th’innocent flower.”
Crowley flicked his tail against a stem, watching the pitiful excuse of a rose bob. Nothing innocent about these useless things.
“But be the serpent under’t.”
He hissed in surprise when he was suddenly plucked up. Small as a garter snake, he fit easily in angelic palms.
“Now none of that, dearest. You’re behaving like a child. It’s only natural for our, er, new neighbors to be curious about us. And you’re going to meet them, with or without limbs.”
“Gonna introduce me, a sssnake, as your husband, then?”
Aziraphale arched a brow. “Of course.”
“They’ll think you’re mad.”
Pale lashes fluttered innocently, his smile easy and charming. “Well. To beguile the time, look like the time.” It wasn’t as if he wanted constant company either. There was a reason their cottage was on the edges of town, quite a ways away from actual neighbors. He and Crowley loved humans, yes, but on their terms.
Besides, the pastry they’d brought in welcome had a bottom that was somehow both burnt and soggy. Difficult to forgive, really.

Gilded smile, champagne nail polish, walls lined with posters, voice like honey, singing into a hairbrush microphone, pen over sword, whispered gossip in the dead of night, camera flashes like lightning bolts, look like th’innocent flower but be the serpent under’t, long-winding bedtime stories, a suit of armor in the form of a dress.
champagne is 100% the drink i associate with allison so champagne nail polish all daaaay. also the suit of armor dress I LOVE if you distilled allison’s character into a singular object it would be that you nailed it and i didn’t even think of it you are once again best ash 11/10
Anonymously describe my muse’s aesthetic! Talk about sights, smells, textures, tastes or sounds you associate with them.

Macbeth 3.2: It’s How You Play the Game
It’s not whether you win or lose, it’s how you play the game.  The dear partners in greatness Lady Macbeth and Macbeth have achieved success beyond imagining-their dreams have come true – they have won big.  Macbeth is now King of Scotland – the highest human in the Elizabethans’ Great Chain of Being – right below the angels, God’s representative on earth.  But is it the devil that put him there?
Lady Macbeth is not happy although she has got what she so desperately wanted, “Nought’s had, all’s spent/Where our desire is got without content” (3.2. 4-5).  She would be happier resting in peace like her and her husband’s victim King Duncan, “ ‘Tis safer to be that which we destroy/Than by destruction dwell in doubtful joy” (3.2. 6-7).  Lady Macbeth and Macbeth have achieved victory but the heinous means used to achieve it has brought about universal disorder and set them on the path to self-destruction.
Macbeth laments that Duncan’s descendants Malcolm and Donalbain may be a threat, “We have scorched the snake, not kill’d it” (3.2. 13).  But it is Macbeth who is the snake.  Lady Macbeth challenged him to “look like th’innocent flower,/But be the serpent under’t” (1.6. 64-65) and now Macbeth uses the image of killing a snake to describe how further killing will be necessary to stay in power.  Macbeth unwittingly reveals that he self-destructive – he is the snake, not Malcolm and Donalbain, that has been scorched but not killed.  Macbeth uses a similar metaphor when warning Lady Macbeth that they must hide their fear of Banquo, “And make our faces vizards to our hearts,/Disguising what they are”(3.2. 34-35).
Macbeth has sent killers after Banquo and Fleance while they are out on an afternoon ride and he not to subtly hints to his wife of his plans, “Be innocent of the knowledge, dearest chuck,/ Till thou applaud the deed” (3.2. 45-46). Lady Macbeth would have to be incredibly naïve, which she is not, to be unaware of his plans.  Macbeth tells her, “O, full of scorpions is my mind, dear wife!/Thou know’st that Banquo and his Fleance lives” (3.2. 37-38) and that, “Things bad begun, make strong themselves by ill” (3.2. 55).  Obviously Macbeth has never heard this from Henry VI part 3 “Didst thou never hear/That things ill got had ever bad success”.
