There’s not many things in life that you love- truly love that is, I mean sure, there are definitely things- people that you love. You’re just not the type to show it.

Any team you’ve played on you’re always marked as the silent, stoic, deadly player. And it’s not a lie- you always have a scowl on your face when you play.

Football is one of your loves- because of course it is, it’s lasted longer than any relationship you’ve had; barring of course, your fat, fat crush on Clàudia.  

You grew up together- you’ve been with each other through everything. You’ve watched each other grow into the players you are today. You’ve spent hours upon hours with her at the park- situated perfectly in your spots; you in goal, and her up front.

She’s joked before how you were meant to be- with her as a striker and you as a goalie.

Your favourite thing about being a goalie isn’t being able to make amazing saves- it’s not the honour of knowing that, after defenders, you’re the only thing standing between the other team and a goal.

Your real favourite part about being a goalie is? It’s getting to watch your team play- well, you’re only ever watching Clàudia anyway.

She plays majestically- and you love watching her. Even after running around- she still looks as beautiful as ever, and you love watching her.

You know your stoic demeanour breaks when it comes to her- you feel a smile tugging at your lips when she scores, and you thank your lucky stars the cameras always stay up with the girls when they celebrate- though Clàudia always looks towards you after she scores.

Her cheeky, bright smile- that takes up half her face beaming at you.

Even across the length of the field, when your view isn’t always the best, she always finds you.

The downside? You’re indeed across the entire field if something were to go wrong.

You watch it happen- and it’s like your world slows to a stop, as you watch the defender collide with Clàudia.

The sound echoes in the stadium and rings in your head- and without thinking, you take off. You run past Lucy and she tries to grab your arm- trying to hold you back but you manage to slip away.

You don’t even realise Clàudia is sitting up- getting helped to her feet, as your eyes have zeroed in on the player who took her down.

She has her back to you and you run up- shoving her to the ground, you can feel about four pairs of hands all pushing you away, one of the players even holding your jersey so you stay in place- you scoff.

Overlapped yelling increases as more people get involved, your team coming to your defence and the other team trying to get you booked, yet all you can focus on is if Clàudia is okay.

With the fray of players surrounding you- you shove them off, looking around frantically to find where Pina is. Your panic rises when you see the medics disappear into the change room, and with no sign of Clàudia you almost run after them.

Only when you feel a small squeeze to your hand do you breathe a sigh of relief.

Clàudia stands in front of you, a small bruise on her cheek but she still grins up at you.

You take off your gloves- gently cupping her face, you move it gently to inspect the bruise.

“Are you okay?”

She nods at you, and you smile back.

“Good.”

When you know your Clàudia is okay, you turn back to the ref- scowl fixed on your face, you don’t flinch when she shoves a yellow in your face and you pick your gloves back up, walking back to the goal.

Mapi waves to get your attention and when you look up at the defender she shouts at you from across the field.

“You can smile?!”

“Mapi shut up!”

Alexia elbows her in the ribs and smiles at you from a hunched over Mapi.

Clàudia- who looks much better, beams at you from beside them- and you send her just as bright of a smile back.

AU where Teddy moves away, goes to therapy, and realizes his mother wasn’t just clingy, she’s abusive. Sabotaging someone to keep them isnt love. You can be hurting and still held accountable for your actions. Their reactions to your boundaries are not your responsibility.

Teddy gets a job as a police sketch artist.

He comes back to the island to visit and starts getting Very Alarmed about Dean. He replays their childhood in his head with a new, adult perspective and sees it all click into place.

He talks to his therapist and his law enforcement contacts and realizes he can’t have actually have Dean arrested and that Emily might be too groomed to see what’s going on. After all it took him years himself and he’s removed from the situation and isn’t the target.

He talks to Aunt Elizabeth and Ilse and Perry and they make a plan. (Idk what specifically tbh)

Ultimately it will be up to Emily to leave but they’re gonna do what they can to give her the space and safety to start thinking more clearly about it.

Teddy carefully starts telling Emily what he learned about abuse and boundaries and keeps it all about him and his mother but hopes she’ll think about Dean.

He carefully asks questions and listens without giving her any specific advice unless she asks.

“Why do you feel you owe him? Do you feel that way about other people in your life?”

“It sounds like you feel responsible for his disappointment?”

I keep trying to find a way Teddy (or better yet - Emily) can have Dean arrested but I can’t come up with it.

Man Teddy could have been such a good character and he was just fully wasted. Emileddy even has interesting opposite-but-similar trauma in so many ways.

Lucy Maud didn’t even try with them. 😩

YOU UNDERSTAND MY PAIN ABOUT TEDDY KENT! Normally I try to avoid dunking on teddy because if you like him, great! don't let me spoil your fun! However, emily and teddy are my least favorite lmm pairing

Re: teddy's mom, I think that's something we see appear more than once in LM Montgomery's work--someone who is emotionally abusive or worse but legitimized through being presented as a tragic figure. Unfortunately no examples come to mind, but iirc her short stories can have that theme. An extreme example is the short story of the man who falls in love with a woman, she chooses to marry someone else and has a daughter, he helps raise the daughter, and then MARRIES THE DAUGHTER IN WHAT'S PRESENTED AS A FIX IT SCENARIO.

With Teddy, I honestly think the problem is that he doesn't balance out Emily well. Other LMM pairings go very well together in a satisfying contrast--Teddy doesn't. I still (yes, still) need to embark on my reread of the trilogy (Emily of New Moon is sitting on my dresser as I type), but although my memory could be deeply flawed and downright horrifically wrong (yes i'm still scarred about dean priest), I remember him being too similar to Emily, and more than that--being dull as dishwasher compared to all the other male characters, especially Perry!

Your ideas are very appealing because they make him protective of Emily haha, he needed something...more to his character. If I were writing Emily, although I do not pretend to have anywhere close to LMM's talent, I would probably just give her a love interest with an entirely different personality. What would that look like? I don't know! I do think that Teddy Kent was not a good foil to Emily Byrd Starr, and the book suffered for it (at least for me!)

I’ve been doing lots of rereadings and I particularly love the drabble of Lucifer getting her sissies to trouble and she’s confident because she knew Ransom would back her up. I suddenly had this thought… Bladey pulling an UNO reverse card and getting Lucifer to trouble! Like when the kids were young, Ran and Kitten always instilled the value of sharing so it’s really important to them— one day, Blade would sit down beside Lucifer when she’s having some snacks and Blade would intentionally steal and eat the ones she’s about to put in her mouth, then when Lucy complains, Blade would flip the story and say, “Mom, Lucy isn’t sharing again!” (parallel to “Daddy, Icy is being mean again!” Haha!) Then, this time, Bladey would have the last laugh and that’s when Lucy would realize that her big bubba might be quiet and reserved but he’s got a fun side to him and he’s definitely her bestie despite their 11 year gap!

Lucy kicks her feet under the table while she takes a bite of the truffles sitting on the table.  She’s well aware she isn’t supposed to be eating them, but you left them out in the open, and she just can’t help it.  Her feet still a bit muddy from splashing around outside, when Blade walks by.

He looks out the kitchen to notice you’re not there, and before Lucy can take another bite from the truffle, he leans over to bite it right out of her fingers, “Blade, that’s nasty!” 

“It’s good,” Blade mumbles through the confection, and Lucy only growls at him.  “What is it Little Lucifer.”

“That was mine.”

“There’s more right there,” he looks over at the plate of truffles, starting to grab another.

“That was the perfect one.  We’re not supposed to be eating them, but they were right there, and they were calling my name.  So I ate a couple, and pushed them together, so mom wouldn’t notice.  Now,” she pulls up another, and Blade bites it out of her hand again.  “Bladey!”

“It’s polite to share.”

“But I can’t move these around anymore.  You took the last edible one,” Blade gets a wicked smile on his face.  Gulping down the remaining truffle. Slowly walking over to the fridge he pulls out the milk and drinks from the carton before looking back at Lucy.  “What are you doing?”

“Mom?”

“You ate that, not me!”

“Lucy won’t share.”

“You snitch!”

You come walking in there, and give your handsome boy a kiss on the cheek, and look to see what your fallen angel wasn’t sharing.  The plate of truffles that was for the party at the Barnes’ that evening.  “What is she not sharing?”

“The candies on the table.”

“I didn’t get a chance to share.”

“Luce, I told you that these were going to...why are you so filthy?  Luciana Violet Drysdale, you just had a bath.  These weren’t supposed to be eaten anyways, and you’re dirty.  Another bath now.”

“Blade took one from my hands.”

“I did not.”

“Lucy, I’m very disappointed in you.  Not only are you beyond filthy and sitting in at the dining table, but you weren’t sharing something that wasn’t even supposed to be eaten to begin with.”

“Aye yi yi,” she dramatically clutches her hand to her temples.  “My head hurts.  That didn’t even make sense.”

“You knew these weren’t supposed to be eaten, and you were eating them anyways, and then you wouldn’t share with your brother.  Blade, get one.  The rest are going to the Barnes’.”

It wasn't Ellie. We know that Archie is a mama's boy. Like he's the kid that went in to see all his younger siblings, and the Otto and Z were just looking at their little brothers, and Archie was giving Story kisses and telling her how beautiful she is. The ONLY person that has ever taken Archie from Story is Chris. Obviously Raiden is Chris' boy, but before Raiden was born there was a wee little Archie.

"Come on sweet boy,” Story coos, trying to usher Archer into the estate.  He gives a quick glance around her, and sees Chris smiling at him, before he darts back behind her body.  “Buddy, come on, I got to take your brothers to practice and you get bored.

“No I don’t,” he giggles up at her, and starts pulling down her arms.  “I go with you.”

“You’re staying with Chris and Lucy.”

“Where’s Brookie going?” he slyly smiles up at her.

“Beck is getting Brookie at the field to play with Attie and Rion.  You wanting to go with them?” he shakes his head no, and peeks back around to see Chris making grabby hands at him.  “Alright, give me a kiss, and I’ll be back later.  Go on.  Go to Chrissy.”

Feeling a bit defeated, he gives his mama a kiss, and runs after Chris.  One of the few people he can tolerate to be around if Story isn’t.  With a smile she walks out the door, and it’s just Archie and Chris.  He goes to chasing the little boy around the house, and anytime he catches him, he throws him up in the air.

Sometimes, giving him some quick little tickles, “Top top top, I can’t breathe,” his little boy lisp speaks, holding up a hand to him.  Chris starts slowly moving in closer, but Archie gives him a little baby slap to his nose.  “Top dat.”

“I was just going to give you a kiss,” Archie shakes his head violently and runs off.

“Only mommy’s kisses!” Chris able to block him in, leaves Archie in a giggle fit.  “No, no Chrissy kissies,” he doubles over laughing.  “Chrissy kissies.  You Kissy.”

“Lucy likes my kissies.”

“I like mommy’s.”

“Not even your dad’s?” Archie shakes his head no, and takes off again.  Trying to run in between Chris’ legs, but the large man catches him.  “You gotta have one of Chrissy’s kissies now.”

“No.  You’re Kissy.”

“What are you two doing?” Mrs. Drysdale asks, watching Chris hold Archie upside down by one leg.  Leaving him dangling in front of Chris.  “You better be glad you know who isn’t here.”

“Yeah, cause I’m mommy’s baby.”

“Wouldn’t that be Brookie?” Chris asks the upside down boy, tapping on his nose.

“He is the baby, but me, I’m mommy’s baby.  Mimi, Chrissy is trying to kissy me.”

“Oh my, you know, only special people get kisses from Chris.  Because if you get one, and you’re not special, you turn into a toad,” Archie’s eyes go wide looking quickly over to Chris.  “So be careful,” she responds, and quickly walks away.  

“I wanna be a toad!  Give me a kissy on my belly!”

“On one condition?” Archie nods his head excitedly.  “If you don’t turn into a toad, instead of Chrissy I wanna be called Kissy.  Deal?”

“Deal!” instead of kisses Chris blows raspberries all over his exposed belly leaving him giggling again.  “Those are not kissies!”

“These are Kissy’s kissies.  That way you won’t turn into a toad.”
