DIY Lunar New Year’s Lychee Punch
During Lunar New Year, lychees symbolize the promise of close family ties for bartender-mixologist William Tsui. And what better way to bring everyone together than with a festive punch? Here lychee combines with elderflower liqueur and citrus for a low-effort, high-reward big-batch cocktail.

Lychee Love Martini !
There's nothing like a martini to make you feel like the kind of mysterious sophisticate you always wanted to be, and this one is just so pretty.
Ingredients:
Ice
25ml vodka
25ml lychee liqueur
15ml dry rose vermouth
Edible rose petals
Method:
Pour the vodka, lychee liqueur and vermouth into a large glass or jug. Fill up with ice then stir with a bar spoon until the outside of the container feels very cold. Strain into a martini or coupe glass and garnish with a lychee on a cocktail stick and a red or pink rose petal resting on top

Lemon Lychee Martinis
1 (15-oz) can whole lychees in syrup
¼ cup sugar
¼ cup water
zest and juice of 2 lemons
½ cup vodka
¼ cup Soho lychee liqueur OR another ¼ cup lychee syrup
2 Tbsp. Cointreau or triple sec
Remove 4 lychees from the can and skewer on decorative toothpicks/cocktail skewers, 2 per skewer. Place on a small baking sheet or plate and place in the freezer until frozen firm. Reserve for garnish.
Combine the sugar and water in a small saucepan and bring to a simmer. Cook for a minute or so or until the sugar is dissolved. Pour the syrup into a blender along with the remaining lychees and the lychee syrup. Zest and juice the lemons into the mixture and then puree until completely smooth. Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer and discard the solids. Refrigerate the lemon lychee syrup until cold.
When ready to serve, combine the vodka, lychee liqueur, Cointreau, and ¼ cup of the lemon lychee syrup in a shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously until well chilled and then pour into chilled martini glasses. Garnish with the skewered lychees and lemon twists and serve.

MLK Weekend 2024
Saturday, January 13, 2024
Tumblr media
MLK weekend is here. Enjoying not having anyplace to be but home. It's cold and there's a light coating of snow on the ground. Dale and I are lounging on the couch and Sylvester is on Dale's lap. It's very cozy in here. We're contemplating shoveling the snow but we're not moving too fast to make that happen.
Tumblr media
Later...
It's cold. Dale and I just got in from shoveling the little bit of snow that's on the ground. Glad we're not just south of us in Iowa which is also frigid but getting HAMMERED with snow.
Tumblr media
For us it's notable because we've been way warmer than usual this season and we haven't had enough snow at any given time to shovel any more that what we got overnight. We've been spoiled but we're bracing ourselves. Who knows when but the monster snowstorm WILL come.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even later...
I've come to regard MLK weekend as something of an extension of winter break. As a teacher I've always gotten a 2 week break around the holidays. Every other teacher I talk to says the two week mark is just when they feel they're starting to really relax. That's the case for me with summer break too. Anyway, the two weeks I've been back in school have been productive albeit tiring. There's some good stuff going on at work but I'll just leave that there for now as I need to give myself a mental break from thinking and talking about my job.
I'm sitting down now with a Fresca and listening to Christmas with Ed Ames, one of my favorite Christmas albums from childhood. Hearing these songs brings me right back to the living room in the house on Stevens at Christmastime.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Later still...
We had Fran, Charlie, and Christine from Gethsemane over for dinner tonight and it was really delightful seeing all of them. Dale and I made a lasagna that went over very well. Fran brought over lychee martinis which she's been telling me about for a while. I loved 'em. They're one part lime rum, 1 part lemon run, 1 part vanilla rum, and 1 part lychee liqueur.

I know that I never hit you hard enough for you to forget how to count now.. I know that for a fact. So you can't actually blame that on me.
So how is the show? What do you think of the show now? Tell me! I'm wanting to know. I have questions. So tell me what you think about it.
~
Exactly! That seemed out of character for the Mighty Warriors. And.. I know. That could've just been aesthetic for the music video. But if it's supposed to be an epilogue where Warriors do become Kuryu, then it confuses me that you would give them any weapons though. Like the old Kuryu, like Ryu, uses weapons. But none of the Warriors ever did.
And don't get me wrong. An attractive man in a suit is attractive... But they've never worn suits before with the exception of Ryu. Ryu's style was always more 'professional' compared to the style any Warriors do wear, and he always only ever wore black clothes. Nothing that was in a flashy vibrant style like everyone else in Warriors, mainly streetwear clothes rather than suits. With colors. The complete opposite to Ryu.
If Ryu's the new leader of Kuryu, I don't see him backing down from a fight with anyone.. Especially not from any 'street trash' like the Rude Boys. He'd rather die than not kill them if given the chance to. And so many characters like Nikaido are completely bitches who can't fight.
~
Strawberry Girls are stupid! If the girls do not know basic information about men, their personalities, their styles, or anything. Then this just so happens to be why they're single. Because they're so stupid to me.
The only way that Rocky could prevent Kizzy from cutting off his limb would be because women wouldn't want to be around a man, without his limbs. That's the only reason why they never cut off his hands too.
And they make sure there is always duplicate keys around just in case the situation calls for it. Because that would be bad if you lost the key at all. So the senior Rascals always have a key for this whole situation.
I don't know how insane Kato might be. And we know that Sakyo and Ukyo might be insane in a violent way, to some extent, but never on a same level as Hyuga is. And if they know how insane Hyuga is.. Now I am actually imagining how the Daruma newbies find out that Hyuga's family was one of the original families in Kuryu. How'd they act then.
~
So I might've figured out the fucking recipes for the cocktails that are in Club Heaven! And we were both right too.. Seriously. That's not any joke either. The menu I sent you from the High&Low festivals, back in the time when people celebrated the franchise for coming out then.
It lists the flavor for the White Rascals as a calpico. So I've researched calpico... A milky type of drink that comes in five flavors - the original, lychee, white peach, strawberry and mango flavors. And even certain flavors like original, lychee and peach are white colored. Strawberry is pink colored. And mango is orange colored. So now, I'm imaging their signature drink would be with the calpico as the very main ingredient.
They would use every flavor. But original, lychee and white peach end up being the main flavors.. Because white colors for White Rascals.
And! Despite calpico not being an alcoholic drink, that is frequently in alcoholic drinks in Asian (especially Japan). But, of course, one of the liqueurs that mix it with is vodka. And if you do look up some of those drinks.. Those drinks look like the Rascals drinks in different glasses.
~
So apparently some of my bands updated their appearances for their new albums. Apparently I can't look at pretty Asian men respectfully... My staring is somewhere in between respectfully and disrespectfully.
~
You said fifth time? Definitely more than five characters for me.
The only exception to a mafioso who wasn't abused might have really been Vincenzo. Like.. I'm not saying his past wasn't said. But he never was abused by his father. That's all I will say about his character.
Like the Shelby family (from Peaky Blinders) came from very abusive families. Rocky counts.. If though Rocky isn't technically a mafioso in the traditional sense. He's a gang leader who had an abusive father so that led to his mother and sister committing suicide. And others too.
Obviously. I know. Criminals become criminals because of the past in their lives.. But still though. Have criminals come from normal pasts - in the same way criminals also come from abusive pasts too. Do both equally. Because having an unsuspecting antagonist is so interesting. But, then again, you just might not emphasize with any of them then.
it’s so long! it’s like watching a movie every episode. i’m still neither here or there on it, but i do like vincenzo himself as a character. also i thought the flick scene was cute, stealing that idea for my daydreaming.
~
it kinda sucks to slip the warriors into kuryu aesthetics because it was interesting to have ryu among the warriors because he was so un-warrior-ish. he’s like, a rich kid! he wears fancy clothes! ans uses weapons! he’s the literal black sheep in the warriors. so he stands out when with the warriors. but then they crammed the warriors all into the kuryu fashion and it’s. wrong.
put the warriors back in their colours! and their cool streetwear! ryu can be the one in his fancy high fashion clothes. it’s about the duality!
i think it’d embarrass ryu to be beaten by the rude boys. so it should absolutely happen. one of the rude boys deserves to knock him on his ass.
~
i’m imagining rocky just trying to convince one of the golden bomber/smg guys to give him the spare key and kizzy being there like ‘don’t you dare give him the key’ because she’s trying to get something from him while he’s trapped. on one hand, rocky’s his boss. on the other, kizzy will make his life hell for defying her. lose lose situation.
~
oh! calpico! i’ve had calpico before. i could see that being made into an alcoholic drink. looks there are a lot of ones online, ones with like gin, vodka or sake. idk what alcohols are popular in japan.
i think i’d prefer the strawberry flavour tbh, even tho it’s not white. i’m not a big fan of lychee, i don’t mind peach tho.
~
it’s definitely a favourite backstory for writing characters you need to feel some kind of empathy for. like time to make you feel bad for this character! flip a coin, is it going to be abuse or dead family?
gotta find some new material for sad backstories.

I’m on a vacation so I think it’s time for Vacation Juice!
I decided to take this into a direction less in the direction of modern Gulf Coast drinks like the Miami Vice, the frozen Daiquiri, and the Rum Runner and more towards SEAsian and South Pacific. So we’re using a rum-related spirit, but its more like an ancestor of rum than a cousin; Indonesian Batavia Arrak. Another great alternative is Cor Cor Green, which is an Okinawan agricole-style rum which sadly is incredibly hard to find for me but would work great. Lychee and passionfruit play wonderfully with the Arrak or any agricole style rum. Remember, with frozen pineapple chunks you don’t need too much ice -- start with half a cup and  add more if its too thin.
Also, sorry I couldn’t get a plumeria blossom, so I used what I had on hand, haha
Into a blender goes:
.75 oz.or 22 ml. Passionfruit Syrup .75 oz. or 22 ml Soho Lychee Liqueur 1 cup frozen pineapple chunks 2 oz. or 60 ml Batavia Arrak Blend with ice to a frappe/slush
Pour into poco grande glass up to about two-thirds of the way. Returning to blender
Add .5 oz. or 15 ml. Blue Curaçao to what's left in the blender quickly pulse to mix float this across the top of the drink garnish with a lime wheel, maraschino cherry and flower blossom

💃🏻➡ ;)
[ V-Day Asks ]
💃🏻➡ to ask for a dance
"Everything's going great, Jin. The place is packed. Your people are all doing their jobs. You should relax a little, while you can."
"Isn't that my line, Tse'?" Jinana smirks at the chevalier over the rim of hir drink. The bawdily-named "Hexen Lover" has proved a hit - three distinct layers of liqueurs, served with a lychee-jelly 'egg' which releases its own payload of high-proof spirits when dropped into the drink.
Tsedi is right, though. Every floor of Carapace is filled to capacity; they can only let more customers in as others leave. Jinana's fleet of highly-trained courtesans are hard at work, plying the lonely - or merely the horny - with specialty drinks and sensual treats. There will no doubt be weeks of data-collation after this.
This floor, the topmost open to patrons, is Carapace's most exclusive. Beauteous courtesans of every species stalk past wearing the sky-high footwear or other accessories that mark their role, all in elegant diaphanous silks with the signature sheen of a beetle's wing. The elevated glazium dance floor is filled with swirling lights that pulse with the beat of the music. Currently, someone's very inebriated underhusband seems to be either performing a mating dance of some sort, or acting out a battle. Other dancers edge around the large Imperiati, wary of being crushed.
Tsedi drains the last of his drink, a twinkle in his dark eyes. "What do you say we show these fools some real dancing, Jin?"
Jinana laughs, tipping hir own glass back to finish it off. S/he catches the eye of one of hir human courtesans, indicating the dance floor with a tilt of hir head. Immediately, several of them converge on the drunken Imperiati, coaxing him down from the stage and back to a booth to be petted and cooed over (and possibly anesthetized, should he prove too troublesome).
"Let's."
The other dancers make way - respectfully now, rather than in fear for the integrity of their toes - as the two step onto the stage.
Outwardly, this would seem to be a performance of high-ranking Courtesans for the entertainment of the patrons. Only the two of them know the truth - two Flowers from the same Garden, carefully cultivated to their respective roles. They move across the stage in perfect unison, laughing, with the languid grace of trained dancers... or trained killers.
There few indeed who can tell the difference.
