Jealousy a la Bucky
Tumblr media
Summary: He’s not jealous.
Pairing: (Soft)Mobster!Bucky Barnes x fem!Reader
Warnings: jealous Bucky, Bucky is smitten for the reader, Steve being a tease, fluff, flirting
Tumblr media
He’s not jealous. Never. He’s not even looking your way when you talk to one of his business partners. Nope. He’s not squaring his jaw or balling his hands into fists. No, of course not.
What he does is sulk at the bar, a pout on his lips, and a grumpy expression on his face. He nips at his drink while following your every move.
“That her?” Steve finally asks. He watched his friend stare at you from afar for almost half an hour. Now he wants to tease him. “I guess she’s good at making new friends, huh? A pretty dame like her. All alone. Wearing a dress like that.”
“First and final warning,” Bucky points his index finger at his friend and brother-in-crime. “I saved your life more than once. But I will take it if you say one more thing about that woman.”
“Aw, it finally happened,” sipping at his drink Steve watches his friend frown deeply. You giggle at something Clint Barton, one of his confidants and notorious weapon dealers, said. “James Buchanan Barnes is in love.”
“Shut up, punk,” Bucky grunts. “If you say one more word, you’ll lose your tongue and more.” He angrily glares at Barton, swearing on his mother’s grave he’ll kill the man if he dares to touch you. “I’m not in love.”
He’s not in love. Not at all. Of course, not. James Buchanan Barnes, a notorious mobster, and stone-cold weapon dealer doesn’t fall in love.
Then, why can’t he take his eyes off you, his sweet new assistant? The woman taking care of his life. “She brings me food and makes my appointments. Y/N is only my assistant. Stop acting like I lost my dead heart to that beautiful, caring, and sweet girl.”
“You are so in love with her,” Steve grins and raises his glass. “To James Buchanan Barnes, the most wanted bachelor who finally got tamed. I hope you know I want to be your best man at your wedding.”
Bucky glares at Steve. He wants to say something, or (and) punch his friend’s face when someone calls his name. Your sweet voice brings him out of his rage and back to reality.
“Mr. Barnes, you should eat something,” you clear your throat to get your boss’s attention. “Sir, I got you a plate filled with all the things you like.”
“All the things I like?” He drops his eyes to the plate you hold. “You mean all the things you like, doll.”
You giggle at the pet name. Bucky Barnes is a dangerous man, and you should be afraid to be even close to him. Oddly, you feel the safest around your boss. He’s a big teddy bear when it comes to you.
“Fine, I got you the same things I like so we can share.”
“You want to share the food with Bucky?” Steve swallows thickly when his friend snaps his head toward him. “He’s a food thief. You should keep a close eye on that food.”
“I like sharing,” you softly say. “Mr. Barnes often forgets to eat. I made it my mission to take care of him and his well-being.”
Steve chokes on his drink at the look Bucky gives you. Puppy dog eyes. James Buchanan Barnes looks at you like you are a miracle to him.
“Uh-cool,” the blonde says. “I’ll grab some food too. It was a pleasure to meet you, Ms. Y/L/N.”
“Same,” you are busy offering food to your boss and barely look at Steve. “Now, what do you want to taste first?”
‘Your lips’, Bucky thinks to himself but doesn’t say it out loud. “What do you recommend?”
“We could start with the salmon and then, you should try the green asparagus. It’s delicious and the best I ever ate. OH, and they have the best desserts, Bucky.” You gasp as you just called your boss by his name. “I’m sorry, Sir…I didn’t…I…”
“My name sounds like a melody on your tongue,” Bucky grabs the salmon to wolf it down. You just stare at him, and let his words sink in.
“That was…” you snort. “Oh my god! So funny. I mean…sorry…but…that was the lamest pick-up line ever,” you step closer to whisper in his ear. “You know, if you like me, you can just ask me out.”
“It was poetic and—” He tries to argue until he realizes you kinda asked him out. “Do you want to go on a date with me, doll?”
“Phew, finally,” you smirk. “I wouldn’t have made it through the night if I talked to Mr. Barton for much longer. He wanted me to have a look at his bow. I still don’t know what he meant.”
“His bow?” Bucky hiccups. “That bastard wanted to show you his bow?”
“Hmm…I told him that you already offered to show me your gun.”
“Right now?” He nervously shifts on his feet, and hopefully looks at you.
“No,” you pat his chest and smile. “I don’t look at a man’s gun before the second date…or the third.”
“I bet you’ll make an exception for me,” he takes the plate out of your hands and throws it over his shoulder. “Don’t worry, doll. I’ll order room service for us.”
“I’m keeping you up on that promise, Sir…”
You will have room service, in Paris only a few hours later…

Christmas Admirer
Tumblr media
Elizabeth Donnelly x reader warnings: language, argument, minor stalking. Look! I did a thing! Thank you for the ko-fi and the request!! I hope this lives up to expectations lol. Covers the "fight before xmas" square for bingo. I'm slowly getting back into it y'all! I wanted to get a lot more done for bingo but I hate to admit I don't think I'm gonna get much done, which sucks. I still have the creative spurts but I think I'm so wrapped up in NCIS that other characters have fallen down the list lol. I'll do my best to get the more developed ideas out for bingo! Love y'all!
The first time it happened, you didn’t think a thing about it. Liz always had new staff in the early fall, clerks, paralegals, assistants, secretaries, baby prosecutors that you hadn’t met yet. Those who had graduated college and wanted some on the job experience before law school, those who had graduated law school and were killing time before being able to write the Bar. There was never a shortage of strange faces around Hogan Place, so you breezed through the halls with no worries, a handful of files tucked under your arm and two coffees balanced in your hand as you approached her office door.
“I wouldn’t!” The voice rang out from the desk situated outside of Liz’s office and you stalled in your steps, letting out a small laugh.
“I’m sure it’s fine. She’s expecting me.”
“That was probably before she found out Anderson lied about having a warrant.” The man winced slightly and you let out a sigh right before Liz’s voice boomed through the glass, clearly upset and about to tear Anderson a new one.
“Guess so.” You dropped down into a chair opposite the man’s desk, placing the coffees down on it, files on your lap as you tugged out your phone. “This the only headache she’s had to deal with today?”
“Aside from the damage control that’ll go along with it, I think so.”
“Great.” Your head tilted back as you let out a groan, there went your dinner plans.
You didn’t catch it, the way his eyes were lingering on you, examining the folders in your lap, recognizing them as legal ones, an NYPD logo stamped on the second one in the pile just peeking its way out. How he was putting together that you were in the legal field, but no badge or gun meant you weren’t a cop. How casual you were in the space meant you’d been here plenty of times before. His gaze dragged up your body, watching your hand reach out for your coffee cup, nearly frowning that you were using your right, your left hidden under the pile of files and he’d have to resort to a verbal tactic to figure out more.
“How long has Anderson been in there?” You asked, swallowing down your coffee.
“Oh, uh? Only a few minutes before you got here.” He replied, “I could always take a message Mrs…?”
You barked out a laugh, turning toward him with a grin on your face, “please, it’s Ms. Parker.” He stuck his hand out over his desk and you took it, shaking while he smiled.
“Thomas, it’s nice to meet you.”
Your eyes surveyed him for a minute, flicking around the room before you spoke, “you got a nice looking name plate,” you gestured to the desk, “you’ve either been here a while or you’re planning on it.”
“Hoping to be.” He shifted in his chair, sitting more upright, “figured this was the best way to save up for law school.” He laughed awkwardly, “not that I’m freshly graduated or anything, I just didn’t figure things out right away, you know?”
“I do.” You laughed, glancing back towards Liz’s door where you could barely hear Anderson stammering along as she continued to lecture him.
“She always this intense?”
“Depends.” You picked up your coffee, taking another swig, “but Anderson… he’s annoying. He’s one of those ones that has an excuse for literally everything and none of them are valid. He’ll never own up to his actions or accept the consequences and shit like that pisses her off even more. If this case sinks, he’s done for.”
A small pause in the conversation while you both tried to eavesdrop and ignore the argument on the other side of the office wall before he spoke again, “sounds like you’ve known Donnelly a while.”
“Five years, give or take.” You replied, picking up your coffee again.
Though it was the last two that were the most significant, a year of back and fourth flirtation whenever you ran into each other until Melinda practically dragged you to some gala she was forced to attend and one thing led to another and confessions of true feelings were whispered into the night. You’d never expected to fall in love with someone like Liz and you’d definitely never thought someone like her would fall in love with you, yet here you were.
“Bet you know all the best ways to make it into her good books.” Thomas practically teased and you laughed.
“Work hard, pay attention, be ready on your feet and up to date as you can be on any open or upcoming cases. She’s big on loyalty, don’t let her catch you fraternizing with the enemy or sweet talking other departments or firms. If you’re thinking about switching jobs, let her know up front and she’ll give you the glowing recommendation you deserve, but if you do it behind her back, your options will be limited. Don’t be a suck up, but on a really bad day, the shrimp scampi from Forlini’s is a life saver,” you were suddenly cut off as the door flew open and Anderson came scurrying by without bothering to stop and you glanced back to Thomas, “and her coffee order is an Americano or drip with two packets of sweetener.” You picked up the untouched coffee, placing it down directly in front of him as you stood from your seat, “but I have a feeling she doesn’t need any more adrenaline boosts today and you just might.” You shot him a wink before scooping up your own coffee and stepping towards Liz’s ajar door, knocking on the frame.
“What?” She snapped as you pushed it open, offering her a warm smile and she let out a sigh from where she sat behind her desk, “sorry.”
“No need.” You swung the door shut behind you, moving through the room.
“What’re you doing here?” She asked softly, hand reaching out to squeeze at yours as you perched on the side of her desk.
“Had lunch with Sophie.” You shrugged, dropping the pile of files into her inbox, “figured I’d save her the ten minute drive.”
“One of these days you’re going to remember you’re a writer and not my assistant.” She teased as you leant down to steal a kiss.
“Speaking of…” you glanced behind you to the closed door, “you’ve got a new one.”
“He’s competent so far.” She sighed, leaning back in her chair, “unlike fucking Anderson.” You laughed, squeezing at her shoulder.
“He’s been in the hotseat for nearly a year, it’s about time they let him go.” You frowned slightly, “but I am guessing this means our dinner plans are off?”
Liz let out a heavy sigh, pinching at the bridge of her nose as she muttered “this is why I hate this job sometimes.” She glanced up at you, “yes.” Taking both of your hands in hers she smiled at you, “but that doesn’t mean I won’t spoil you. You go home, I’ll send dinner to your place, dessert too, and probably another million little gifts.”
“Liz, you really don’t have to.” You giggled, leaning down to kiss her.
“No sweetheart, I really do. We made these plans a while ago and I know how much you were looking forward to them.”
“Alright,” you slid off her desk, “fine. I’ll accept delicious, free dinner and treats but you better send me a picture of your dinner too, even if it’s in your office. I need you to not forget to eat.”
“And you really think you don’t take care of me?” She grinned up at you and you giggled again when she pulled you back to her for another kiss, “thank you for understanding.”
“Always.” You smiled, “and hey, don’t be too hard on that kid out there, he doesn’t seem so bad.”
“As long as he’s not Anderson.” She replied with an eye roll and you pulled the door open with a laugh, shooting a wave and a smile to Thomas as you sped through the office, leaving the room fast enough that you missed the way he ducked his gaze and his cheeks flushed pink.
**
The second time it happened, you were none the wiser, more focussed on getting your daily tasks done through the first snowfall of the year.
“God it is freezing out there.” You grumbled, letting out a little shiver as you shook the snow off your shoulders, “hope you guys have the heat on.” You reached out, placing a coffee cup down on Thomas’ desk.
“Got a portable one under my desk.” He replied with a slightly bashful smile.
“Good.” You shot him a wink, wrapping your hands around your own coffee and letting out a warm sigh.
“If it’s that cold out you should really have gloves on.”
“I know.” You groaned, rolling your eyes, “my friend’s dog chewed through my last pair this weekend, haven’t gotten around to a shopping trip yet.”
“She doesn’t give you any time off?” He asked with a frown, nodding toward Liz’s door and you laughed.
“She’s not my boss.” You tugged around in your purse for a moment, pulling out a business card, “I write kid’s books… well, primarily. I’ve been known to dabble into true crime too.”
He took the card from you, studying it for a minute before looking back up at you, “oh, that’s really cool. And… wildly different departments.”
You laughed, smiling softly at Thomas, “yeah, I guess they balance each other out well enough. Gotta splash some colour in that drab, cruel world, ya know?”
“Yeah.” He twirled the card around in his fingers, placing it down next to his cup of pens, “I’d love to pick your brain about it.”
“Really?” Your smile widened, taken aback by someone showing genuine interest into what you spent your time doing.
“Yeah. I’ll even buy you a drink, or a coffee, for your time? Tonight?”
“I can’t tonight.” Your nose scrunched and Thomas thought it was the cutest thing he’d seen all month, “got a thing. Friday?”
“Yeah, yeah! That’s perfect.”
“Well,” grinning, you gestured toward the card, “you’ve got my number.”
You scooped up your coffee, briefly knocking on Liz’s door before entering her office, letting the door swing shut behind you as you crossed the room.
“You’re late.” She chastised, half teasing while you leant over to kiss her cheek, your hand resting just past the collar of her shirt and she winced, “and your hands are freezing! What did I tell you about buying new gloves?”
“I’ll get around to it.” You rolled your eyes, laughing softly, “and how am I late if all I’m doing is playing errand boy for you?”
“Cleaners’ only open until three today.” She replied with a shrug pulling a claim ticket out of her desk and passing it to you.
“Good thing it’s only one then.” You replied with a grin, swiping the tag from her and popping it into your purse. “Your dress will be in one piece and ready to go at my place once you’re done here. You’ll have just enough time to go over your speech before we head out.”
“You’re a life saver.” She tugged you back to her to steal a kiss, wincing again at the temperature of your fingers. “Thank you.”
“Anytime.”
You got home with Liz’s dry cleaning over your arm and take out in your other (still bare) hand to find a gift bag sitting outside of your apartment door. You managed to scoop it up and once you got inside you discovered two pairs of very warm, cozy and luxurious gloves inside. A smile crept onto your cheeks and your body relaxed with warmth at the thought of Liz thinking of you on an already crammed busy day.
**
The third time you were slowly starting to pick up on it but brushed it off as friendliness. Thomas had agreed to buy you a drink to pick your brain over your work and you were more than excited to have someone who wasn’t your agent or publisher to talk to about the creative thoughts flying through your brain. You spent more than a few hours at a small table in the corner of a bar picking over appetizers and a few cocktails while you got to know each other a bit more. Thomas was new to town, spent the majority of his time working and thus didn’t really have a lot of friends in the city yet. You tried to pay for your half of the tab but he insisted it was his treat and you weren’t about to complain. When he offered to walk you home you figured he was just being friendly, cautious as a man should be about letting their companion go on alone at night in New York. You didn’t have to argue too much as you already had a car coming and assured that you would text once you were home safe.
**
The fourth time things started to happen you were so wrapped up in the holiday season you wouldn’t have noticed even if you had been looking for it. All of your shopping was done online to avoid crowded stores, there were small piles of packages outside your door daily, more Christmas cards than you could count flowing through your mail box. An array of little gifts from Liz, some signed with her initials, some wrapped with a ‘do not open until Christmas’ warnings, others bare in their Amazon boxes. Some were shipped, some were dropped off and it seemed to change every week.
Flowers, chocolates and candy were frequently left at your work desk, a treat for the entire office, trinkets from fans or avid readers, it was just what happened this time of year. It didn’t matter if it didn’t have a card, it was just a little boost to get through the cold snap and into the new year.
Figuring you should get a start on wrapping the gifts you were giving you started to sort through the boxes littered underneath the tree, finding a surprising amount of things that had been on your public wish list. You were stuck in an internal battle between setting a reminder to thank Liz in the morning or not mention anything considering they were likely supposed to be Christmas gifts and you eventually decided on the latter.
Just as you were finishing up, putting the final bow on the final present there was a knock at your door and you were surprised with dinner from your favourite place. You were a little taken a back with this one, considering it was one of the pricier places you really adored, but hey, it was Christmas time, Liz was working late and cancelled a date night, you weren’t going to complain about a pricey apology.
**
The fifth time it happened Thomas had been away from his desk when you arrived, you figured he was already gone for the night and headed straight to Liz’s office. That was where you discovered that she was having the utter day from hell, more than one prosecutor getting served thanks to playing out of line during their current cases. Meaning she now had to comb through both of their cases from start to where they were currently to find any violations, possibly take them over herself and help them find the appropriate counsel for the suits being filed.
She apologized profusely, promising that she would make it up to you later that weekend and you simply smiled, nodding gently and pressing a kiss to her cheek. You’d known what level of workload she had when you started dating and you reminded her that you knew this wasn’t exactly work from home over a glass of wine type of work. Reluctantly, you finally left her office, quietly shutting the door on your way out before your eyes flicked up and you spotted Thomas back at his desk beginning to pack things up.
“Figured you’d left already.” You greeted with a small smile.
“Oh, just a few last minute things she needed me to take over. Done now.” His eyes slowly raked up your body, taking in the heels, form fitting dress, jewelry and curled hair and he gulped, “you look… nice.”
“Thanks.” You huffed out a laugh, “dinner plans.”
“You didn’t get roped into this somehow, did you?” He asked, gesturing towards Liz’s office.
“Oh no.” You shook your head, pulling your phone out of your pocket when it pinged to read the text message and let out another sigh, “but my date did cancel on me.”
“Really? It’s practically Christmas.”
“Meh, happens.” You shrugged, pocketing your phone again.
“You know… I was just on my way out; my plan was leftover pizza. If you maybe wanted some company, we could grab a bite?” He offered and you hummed over it for a moment.
“You sure?”
“’Course.”
“That’d honestly be really nice, I’ve been cooped up alone in my home office all week and was looking forward to the company.” You glanced up to him, “but I’m paying this time!”
“Not after you got stood up.” He chuckled and you let out a small laugh.
“I had reservations at Trattoria Dell’Arte, it’s not exactly cheap. Let me get it.”
“Only if I take care of the drinks.”
“You’ve got yourself a deal.”
You likely would have noticed that he was flirting, not just being friendly if you hadn’t been so preoccupied up in your head. Between both of your jobs you and Liz hadn’t managed to see that much of each other recently and you were beginning to second guess yourself, thinking that she was simply just too tired to want to bother seeing you after a long week. That the extra work was a welcomed excuse to have to take a rain check yet again.
Instead you played nice, laughed at most of his jokes and contributed the best you could over dinner. Spending time with him wasn’t bad, he was decent enough company you didn’t mind it, you just would have preferred your girlfriend. He did try to snag the dinner bill but you were quicker, taking care of it on the way back from the restroom, leaving him with the agreed upon bottle of wine to settle up.
He once again offered to walk you home, or at least split a cab and you agreed on the latter considering it was a chillier night and you didn’t want either of you to get caught out in the snow. The heavier the incoming storm got, the fewer cabs there would be out on the streets, so it didn’t even cross your mind. You thought nothing of the rose he presented to you after you flagged down the cab considering the street peddler was pushy, the assertive in your face type that wouldn’t take no for an answer until you’d agreed to buy something from them. You’d even both laughed about it on the way home, talking about how guys like that used to target tourists more than the locals and when you reached your apartment you thanked him for the fun evening and hoped he had a great rest of his weekend.
With your back turned you missed the way his eyes followed you all the way up to the entrance to your building, a small smile on his cheeks as the fantasies began to play through his head, some of which were already playing out in real life right in front of him.
**
Stepping out of the cab you cautiously jogged up the stairs to Liz’s brownstone, careful to avoid the ice in your heels, coat open and flowing behind you as you briefly stopped to ring the bell before letting yourself in.
“I’ll be five minutes!” Her voice rang through from her upstairs office, “make yourself a drink.”
“Okay.” You called back, wiping off your shoes and shrugging off your coat to be hung on one of the hallway hooks.
Liz’s house was no stranger to you, it was your home away from home, a place you spent many weekends curled in her arms on the couch or tangled in her bedsheets as the sun crept in through the curtains. It felt homier that your apartment, the place you often opted to work from home when you needed to, the long days that she worked that you missed her, wanted to still feel surrounded by her even if she didn’t come home until long after you were asleep.
You crossed the living room to the bar cart, pouring yourself a gin and tonic to pass the time while she finished whatever it was she was doing. Sipping on the beverage you pulled your phone from your pocket, scrolling through a couple of apps and replying to a couple of messages while your gaze was distracted out the window, watching the snowfall start to get thicker, coating the streets with white fluff.
“Well don’t you look absolutely stunning.” Liz’s voice broke through the silence of the room and you turned back to her with a small laugh, the smile staying on your warm cheeks as she approached you. Her hand cupped your cheek, pulling you to her for a tender kiss that you couldn’t help but relax into.
“Thank you.” You smiled across at her, “figured I should look a little extra nice considering how many nights we’ve missed recently.”
“You know you don’t have to dress up for me.” Liz replied with a small smile, kissing your cheek gently as she squeezed at your hand, “but I do deeply appreciate it.” Her fingers tangled with yours, pulling your hand up to her lips to lay a kiss on the back of it.
“With the amount you spoil me it’s the least I could do.” You replied with a quiet laugh, draining your drink before placing the cup down on a side table. Liz hummed, her eyes dropping to your bracelet on the arm she still held up. Her gaze focused on it, eyes narrowing slightly as she examined it, her brow beginning to furrow. “What?” You asked, heart picking up in your chest as you watched her expression harden.
“This bracelet… it’s awfully personal.” Her hand dropped yours before circling your wrist, twisting your arm back and fourth to examine the jewelry.
“It’s my birthstone, yeah.” You laughed awkwardly “surrounded by yours.”
Her eyes examined it for a moment longer, pulling your wrist closer until she let out a small huff, “that’s not blue topaz, those are diamonds. They’re pulling the light from the sapphires, where did you get this?”
“You.” You chuckled again, feeling your heartbeat pick up in your chest, “one of those little secret Santa gifts you’ve been leaving.”
“It’s not from me.”
“Liz, there’ve been so many packages delivered I can’t even keep track of them, you probably ordered it months ago and forgot.”
“That’s Buccellati. I think I would remember spending that much money on you.” She scoffed, dropping your arm as she turned from you with an eye roll. “And half of those gifts were a don’t open until Christmas.”
“I just said I couldn’t keep track.” You retorted, feeling the annoyance beginning to build up through your veins.
“And I know that’s not from me.” She replied, frustration bubbling up inside of her, she’d been dealing with so much already she’d just wanted to have a nice night out and now this was ruining everything. Then again, maybe things had been ruined before she’d even realized, “diamonds mean someone born in April, or someone that likes you an awful lot and you don’t keep in touch with any family and not to offend but none of your friends could afford that.”
“I told you, it’s from you.” Your voice hardened and she laughed, shaking her head.
“Come on y/n, you’re better than that. That’s the oldest lie in the book.” She picked up a bottle of scotch, pouring out a few ounces and taking a swig as she spoke, “go around galivanting with someone else and when you get caught gaslight your partner into thinking it was them all along.”
“What are you talking about?”
“You’ve been so distant!” Her voice raised ever so lightly, tensing as she spoke, her mouth tightening in that all too familiar pissed off way. “I’ve barely seen you all month, you always wait until the morning to call me back, your texts are far and few in between and the few times I’ve tried to stop by your apartment you’re out! God.” She shook her head with a heavy laugh, “I don’t know how I didn’t put it together earlier that you were seeing someone else.”
“Did you just accuse me of cheating on you?!” Anger jolted through you as you immediately saw red, an offended scoff leaving your lips.
“Well how else would you explain it!?” Her hands flailed in your general direction.
“You’re the one who keeps cancelling fucking dates Liz! I’ve been completely accommodating of your work schedule and how demanding it’s been recently. You’ve barely seen me because you keep blowing me off! Sorry that I’m not at your beck and call, I was trying to give you space and time to regroup from work! I didn’t realize I was supposed to mope around my apartment and wait for you to find a sliver of time for me, sorry that I have other friends to spend time with who actually give a shit.”
“So you admit you’ve been seeing someone?”
“I’m not fucking doing this.” Your hands shot up in surrender, “you’re being insane all over a fucking bracelet.”
“A seven thousand dollar bracelet!” She snapped back, “what would you like to do, go through my bank records?”
“No.” Grabbing your coat you headed for the door, “you can do that yourself and wake up from this fucking delusion where I would cheat on you. I cannot believe you would ever accuse me of something like that, I thought you trusted me!”
The door was pulled open and you were halfway down the steps by the time she called after you, “fine! Walk out on another fucking date, no surprise there!”
**
Christmas Eve was finally upon you and instead of being out celebrating like you thought you would be, you were curled up in the bay window of your apartment watching the snow coat the city in a thick blanket. The remnants of Chinese takeout splayed across the coffee table while the television blared quietly in the background, some marathon of holiday movies still going.
Letting out a heavy sigh you picked up the bottle of wine from beside you, topping up your glass before taking a sip as your gaze redirected out into the night once again. You hadn’t heard from Liz in nearly two weeks, the two of you no doubt trapped in a game of ‘Say Uncle’, waiting for the other to admit they were wrong before any reconciling could begin. It wasn’t the first time you’d fought and if things started moving forward again you were certain it wouldn’t be the last, she was strong willed and always would be. You were hoping that this time in light of the holiday season maybe you would be getting an apology but it appeared she was digging her heels in, burying herself in work while trying to push the image of you with another woman out of her head rather than talking her way through it.
You’d spent some time thinking about it, imagining the last couple of months from Liz’s point of view and you were starting to maybe see where she was coming from. There had been more time apart than usual, more nights of cancelled dates spent apart rather than her coming home late from work to find you making her home warm and welcoming. You’d been busy, actually accepting the offers for holiday parties and meet ups with friends in town for the season rather than sitting around bored at home. But you reminded yourself that just because she might have had the excuse to be suspicious didn’t mean the argument and her accusation was justified.
Letting out another sigh as you sucked back your wine you were debating reheating some leftover Chinese, your stomach beginning to rumble when your attention was pulled to the door. Your head tilted for a moment, wondering if you were hearing things from the television or not but the second knocking came though loud and clear. A small groan escaped your lips as you untangled yourself from the blanket, stretching out stiff muscles as you padded through your apartment to the door, pulling it open to a very lavish bouquet of poinsettias and red and white roses, it was only after a moment that you realized who was holding it.
“Thomas?” You let out a huff, “seriously, she’s making you do her bidding on Christmas Eve? You deserve a break, and a raise. If she can’t be bothered to drop them off herself I don’t want them.”
“Her?” He asked with a tilt of the head.
“Liz.” You rolled your eyes, “I knew she liked having minions to do shit like this but this is so not cool.”
“Ms. Donnelly?” His nose scrunched, “no, these are from me.”
“Oh.” You stalled in your movement, taking a step back from the door to open it wider, “I guess… come in then.”
“Thanks.” He flashed you a smile, quickly stepping into the apartment, following you so he could place the bouquet down on the kitchen island.
“You know, you really didn’t have to bring me anything.”
“Well, you’re pretty big on Christmas, aren’t you?” He gestured around your apartment, eyes sweeping through the decorations, the large tree in the corner with piles of gifts wrapped underneath it, “everyone deserves a little bit of holiday cheer.”
“Yeah.” You sighed, smiling softly across from him.
“Besides, after I saw you were actually wearing the bracelet the last time you swung through the office I figured I should stop playing secret Santa and reveal myself.” His eyes flicked down to your wrist and a frown took over his face, “but… you’re not wearing it now.”
“Hmph,” you mumbled over a sip of wine, “Liz and I got into a big fight over it, kinda left a bad taste in my mouth.”
“Oh…” He stuttered a moment, wringing his hands while he gathered his words and you took another sip of your drink, “I thought it looked quite nice. You know, my birthday’s in April, always thought diamonds and sapphires complimented each other well.”
The wine glass in your hand paused halfway back to the kitchen island and you did your best to not let it show on your face as ice began to run through your veins. The wheels were spinning in your brain, trying to make it make sense and if there was ever a moment to trust your gut, you knew this was it. Before you could fully process everything Thomas spoke again,
“I like what you did with the shadowboxes,” he gestured to the wall above the television, “they had them in your favourite colour too, but I thought that might clash with the rest of the room. I’m glad the silver looks so nice.”
“Thanks…” The glass finally met the island gently as your fingers slipped off it, gripping the edge of the counter.
“Oh and that blanket!” His eyes lit up with excitement when he saw the one you’d previously been curled up in, “isn’t it the softest thing you’ve ever felt?” You nodded slowly, “bought one for myself when I picked it up.” He was nearly two steps into your living room by the time you found your voice, clearing your throat before you spoke.
“Hey Thomas…”
“Yeah?” He whipped around, a gleam in his eye and wide smile on his face.
“How did you know where I live?” You asked slowly, keeping your tone calm and cool in an attempt to keep him in the same mood he was in currently, completely unaware that the hair on the back of your neck was standing up.
“After our date at Trattoria we shared a cab.” He reminded you, “dropped you off first.”
“Date…” You nodded slowly, an unsure smile on your lips.
“Well,” he laughed, “I guess it would’ve been more of a date if you’d let me pay for dinner, but I’ll take what I can get.”
“Uh-huh.” You picked up your wine glass again, taking another sip as you watched him take in your apartment, “you know, my name’s not on a buzzer. You go knocking on everyone’s doors?”
“Nope.” He smiled brightly over at you, “told the cabbie to wait that night, wanting to make sure you got in alright. I saw your light flick on when you got in, just did my own investigative work to figure out which suite was yours.”
“I’ll add detective to your resume.” You gently teased and he chuckled, his fingers trailing over the back of your couch while his eyes dragged through your living room.
“Chow mein noodles…” he muttered, “I should’ve known.” He clicked his tongue, shaking his head at himself, “hope you didn’t mind the shanghai ones I had sent over.”
“Hmm?” Your brow raised in his direction as your stomach began to churn.
“A couple of weeks ago.” He laughed softly, “you said you were dreading cooking dinner so I thought I’d help out a bit.”
“That was you…” You asked with a breath, feeling your heart starting to thud heavily in your chest.
“Well yeah.” He smiled brightly, “who else would it be?”
“Tell me something… how many times have you sent stuff to my apartment?”
“Food? At least once a week, I mean, you can’t forget to eat, it’s important.”
“Sure is.”
“The other stuff? Depended.” He shrugged, “I figured it’s Christmas so you should get treated a little more than usual, flowers, treats. I went through your Amazon list,” he nodded toward the tree, “though I’m figuring some of that’s still under there.”
“Okay, but why?”
“Because you deserve it.” He stepped toward you and you fought every instinct in your brain to step back, not wanting to get a negative response out of him, “you’re so beautiful, so kind and sweet. I mean, it didn’t take much to fall in love with you.”
“Oh Thomas I—”
“Was I too secretive with my Santa game?” He laughed, “did you not realize they were all from me?”
“No.. no I did not.”
“Well, surprise.” He replied with a sheepish grin, “I was your secret admirer.”
“I didn’t even realize I had one.” You replied with an awkward laugh, praying that he would stay the two feet away from you he currently was.
“What’d you mean?” He asked, his face falling, “who did you think they were from?”
“Well, to be completely honest, Liz.”
“Ms. Donnelly?” His face scrunched, “why would any of them be from her?”
“Because I am her girlfriend.” Liz’s voice growled through the apartment and you jumped, having not realized the door had never been shut behind Thomas. You had no idea how long she had been standing there or how much she had heard but one thing was clear; she was absolutely livid. “What the hell do you think you’re doing here?”
“It’s practically Christmas.” He gestured around, “I thought that was the best time to make romantic declarations.”
“Is that so?” Liz asked, her brow raising before whatever was in her hands found home on the entry way table and a dark gleam took over her eyes. “How about I tell you what the best thing to do is right now?” She stepped towards him and he visibly gulped, “you’re going to get the hell out of here and you’re never going to set foot on this block ever again. If I so much as catch a glimpse of you attempting to nose your way into her life, I’ll sick Stabler on you, understood?”
“Yes Ms. Donnelly.” He nodded, shrinking around himself as he ducked his gaze, attempting to step around her to get over to the door.
“And I think it’s very clear you don’t need to show up at work after the holidays, you’re fired. Don’t expect any good references either.”
She followed him toward the door, making sure he was scurrying his way to the stairs before she swung it shut behind him, flicking the lock for extra security. Her eyes closed for a moment and she took a deep breath before turning to you, noticing the way you were clutching the counter so tight your knuckles were white.
“Are you alright?” She asked, her voice impeccably soft as she cautiously stepped toward you, a hand soothing its way up your arm and you looked up at her, a slight shake in your voice.
“Kinda feel like I’m gonna be sick.” You ran your hand over your face, letting out a low breath, “god I was so stupid, how could I not realize?” You leant back into the counter, “I really did think it was you sending me everything.”
“Everything?” Her brow raised as her arm wound around your waist, pulling you to her so she could leave a soft kiss on your temple. “It wasn’t just the flowers?”
You shook your head, rolling your eyes at the lavish bouquet that you wanted nothing more than to toss in the garbage, “he’s been sending me things for months, and I don’t even know what was him and what was you.”
“Has he been following you?” She asked, worry taking over her voice.
“I dunno.” You shrugged, “we split a cab after drinks one night, dropped me off first but who knows, that was probably part of the plan.”
“I thought I was going overboard mentioning Stabler but now I’m starting to think it may be a good idea.” Her eyes swept through your apartment, taking in all the new trinkets that hadn’t been there the last time she was, “I’m going to get him to run Thomas’ name, do a more thorough background check, and let’s get you out of here, you’re staying at my place until New Years.”
“Are you sure?”
“Why wouldn’t I be?” She squeezed at your hand.
“You’re not…  mad anymore?” You asked and her face fell before she let out a weary sigh, shaking her head.
“Absolutely not. I was over worked and stressed and came to a very wrong conclusion when I should have seen how suspicious that was from a different angle.”
“You know I’d never cheat on you, right?” You couldn’t help the tears swimming into your eyes, both at the question and the fact that you were pretty shaken up considering your evening.
“Oh sweetheart.” Liz stepped forward again, her hands cupping your cheeks as she leant in to kiss you, her lips brushing against yours while she spoke, “of course I do. I know how much you love me and I love you even more than you could imagine. I’m so sorry I said those terrible things. You’re the greatest partner I could ask for, always so understanding when I have to shuffle things around, I should be praising the ground you walk on.”
“Okay well now you’re going overboard.” You let out a watery laugh, smiling as you leant forward to kiss her again.
“Nonsense.” She kissed the tip of your nose, “my girl deserves the absolute best.”
“The absolute best would be getting the fuck out of here; I feel like I need to burn half my belongings.” You shuddered and she squeezed at your shoulders, directing you toward the door.
“Grab what you need. We can come back in a couple of days to sort through everything and figure out what came from that creep and what I had sent over.”
“Okay.” You slipped into your coat, grabbing your bag grabbing Liz quickly before she ushered you out the door “thank you. I love you.”
“I love you more sweetheart.”
You’d fully calmed down a couple of hours later, curled up in Liz’s arms on her couch at her very comfortable and very private brownstone. A warm glow casted from the fully decorated tree in the corner, the main source of light in the room as Christmas movies played on the television and fluffy snowflakes drifted through the air outside. You let out a soft sigh, burrowing further into her embrace and in return her arm squeezed at you, her lips brushing against your hairline as the curved up into a smile. You both knew that no matter what the world threw at you, you had each other, you were safe and loved and there was no one else you’d rather spend the holidays or your lives with.

(3.) Large Marie-Stuart collar in Renaissance lace. (Model by Mme Garcia, 3, rue de Rohan, Paris.) This large Marie-Stuart collar is absolutely new, both by its shape and the position of its design, as well as by the artistic taste which governed the general detail of the 'together. Square in shape at the back, it emerges slightly into two graceful points on the shoulders, both sides of the front, to end in a shawl on the chest. This collar will constitute the prettiest and richest garnish for a dressy dress of the summer; a light bodice, sweetheart neckline on the front, will take on a very distinguished character, adorned with this finery of the best taste and which our elegant ladies have adopted with a enthusiasm that justifies its finesse, its lightness and the easy and charming execution of its work. The embroidery of this collar is done with flat openwork lace at the two edges, a little wide, which is placed on drawn moleskin, in flowers, leaves, arabesques tangled and contoured so as to form a real lace which only Bruges and Venice can compete with him. When all the patterns are fixed to each other by an overlock stitch, you connect them together by Venetian bars made of two threads thrown from one edge to the other of the selvedge, and covered in a zigzag by the working thread . These flanges are embellished in the center by wheels on the wing. The inside of the patterns are filled with uncomplicated varied days, wheels, upset barrettes and tulle stitches pretty much make up the work of this collar. Large eyelets scattered here and there give it a lot of relief, and loose blanket stitch loops adorn the edges. Sketch no. 7662 represents the beautiful whole and detail of the embroidery. Ms. Garcia sells this magnificent collar sampled with supplies: 12 fr. 50. truly exceptional price for all our readers in general.

Prologue: A Debate to Remember
"Okay, Jake, I need you to remember that a vice presidential debate is just as important as a presidential debate." Ms. Wiseman, the Bradshaw-Seresin campaign manager, told him.
"I know, Wise-woman, I've got this. Don't worry." He tells her as he shoots her a thousand watt grin. "How many times have I told you to stop calling me that ridiculous nickname." She huffs.
Jake laughs before leaving the green room and finding his place. He was more than ready for this debate. He and Bradley were ahead in the poles with the election just around the corner. He rolled his shoulders back as he mentally prepared himself to wipe the floor with the competition.
A production assistant escorted him to his place. He squared his stance at the podium as the welcome music played, and the lights went up.
Jake was confident. He knew he had this in the bag. Nothing was going to throw him off his game.
Well, at least that's what he thought before she walked out. Jake's breath caught in his throat as she strolled onto the stage.
She was beautiful, with olive skin and chestnut colored hair. The black dress she was wearing was modest but fit her like a glove. Her legs were elongated by the black pumps that she wore, and when her eyes met Jake's, he swears his heart skipped a beat.
His mind went blank. How the hell was he supposed to be on his best game when the most beautiful woman in the world would be sitting ten feet in front of him.
He snapped back to reality as she grabbed the microphone and spoke.
"Good evening, everyone, and welcome to the final vice president debate of the 2024 election. On stage tonight, we have Mr. Gregory Evans, Mr. Thomas Howard, and Mr. Jacob Seresin. My name is Jaycee Marchetti, lead political reporter for the Washington Post, and I'll be your moderator for this deabte." She spoke strongly, but not forcefully. Her voice was smooth like silk and Jake knew instantly that he was fucked.
"Gentleman, the debate will run for approximately two hours, you will be given a maximum of two minutes and thirty seconds to answer each question. If you exceed the time limit, I will buzz you before cutting off your microphone." Jaycee explained the parameters. "Shall we begin?" She asked just before grabbing the first question.
............
"Hangman! You crushed it out there!" Bradley clapped him on the back as he came backstage.
"Thanks, man. I'm glad that's over. Listen, if we're all good here, I need a drink." Jake said, and he raked his hands over his face. God, he couldn't get the image of Jaycee out of his head.
After clearing it with his security team, Jake managed to slip away to a private bar. Well, it was more like a speakeasy if he was being honest. You had to know someone to get in, the security was top notch, which made it the perfect place for the D.C. elite to slip off for a drink.
He had just walked in when he spotted a familiar brunette sitting alone at the bar.
"Excuse ma'am, is this seat taken?" Jake asked as he gestured to the stool beside her. Jaycee looked up from her glass of wine and smiled. "For you, Mr. Seresin, never."
Jake sat down next to her and ordered himself a glass of scotch. "Your oral performance at the debate was amazing, Mr. Seresin. You were do well spoken." Jaycee complemented him. "Mr. Seresin is my father, please, call me Jake." He insisted. "And I'm amazed at how well I did. Considering how distracted I was during it." Jake continued.
"And why were you distracted—Jake?" Jaycee asks as she leans closer to him. "You try standing across from the most beautiful woman in D.C. and see how focused you are." Jake replied as he took a sip of his drink. "You flatter me, Jake." Jaycee said as she gave his chest a gentle push.
"It's not flattery if it's true." Jake replied before putting one foot on the bar of Jaycee's stool and sliding her closer to him until her knees were wedge between his legs.
"I'm celebrating my victory in the debate tonight, care to take a shot with me, Ms. Marchett?" Jake ask her. "I suppose one wouldn't hurt." She replies innocently. "Whiskey?" Jake asks. "My favorite." Jaycee replies.
Soon, the shot of whiskey turns into two, followed by a beer. All the while, Jake and Jaycee are flirting with each other. By the time the last call rolls around, one question hangs on the tip of Jake's tongue. He settles both of their tabs with the bartender before placing one of his large hands on her thighs and leaning in. "If you thought I gave a good oral performance at the debate, you should let me take you back to my place so I can really show off my skills." Jaycee grabs his hand before hauling him out to find a cab.
...................
The couple crashed through the door of Jake's apartment as soon as he'd unlocked it. Barely breaking apart long enough for him to do so.
The two were in a tangle of lips and limbs.
As soon as the door shut, Jake pressed Jaycee against it, wrapping her legs around his waist as he ground against her.
She shoved off his suit jacket and quickly undid his tie before working as the buttons of his dress shirt. Jake peeled her away from the door long enough to slip out of his shoes and carry her to his bedroom.
Once there, he stripped out of his shirt and under shirt before dropping to the floor to undo the straps of her shoes.
Jaycee took the opportunity to peel her dress over her head and fling it across the room. She was grateful she'd decided to wear a cute lace set under her dress tonight.
Once her shoes were out of the way, Jake grabbed her leg and began trailing kisses from her ankle to her inner thigh before switching sides. Jaycee leaned back on her hands and watched him as Jake took in the site before him.
She looked beautiful in his bed.
"Can I?" He asked as his fingers hooked around the waistband of her panties. Jaycee nodded. Jake pulled the black lace off her before bringing them to his nose and inhaling. "You smell amazing, I bet you taste even better." He groaned before licking a stripe up her slit.
Jaycee's hips jumped off the bed. Jake growled before hooking his arms under her thighs and pulling her flush against him.
He started out harsh and fast, eating her like she was the finest meal on earth. His tongue swiped circles and figure eights around her clit before fucking into her weeping hole. Jaycee laced her fingers in his sandy blonde locks and pulled him closer to her.
She ground her core against his face, and Jake moaned in appreciation as she tugged on his locks.
He slipped two of his thick fingers inside her dripping cunt and curled them to find her gspot. Once he zeroed in on it, he stroked it over and over again, enjoying the cries of his name that left her lips each time he did so.
"Fuck, Jake! That feels so good!" Jaycce cried out as she chased her high. It had been ages since a man had taken care of her like this.
"You're squeezing my fingers so good, darlin, I can tell you're close. Be a good girl and cum for me." Jake demanded as he sped up his fingers and tongue.
Jaycee cried out his name as he assaulted her bundle of nerves. Jake alternated between sucking on in and circling it. He gave it a particularly harsh suck, and Jaycee was screaming out his name. She came hard on his face, and Jake worked her through it, only stopping when she pulled him away from over stimulation.
Jake shimmied out of his pants and underwear before joining Jaycee on his bed.
She pulled him in for a bruising kiss before pushing him on his back. She stroked his hard length a few times. "Shit, baby, that feels so good. Hold on, let me get a condom." Jake said as he fumbled with his nightstand. He quickly took out the foil and handed it to her. Jaycee carefully opened it and rolled it down his length.
She straddled him before slowly sinking down him. She let out an appreciative moan over how full she was, taking a few moments to savor that burning stretch before slowly rising up and dropping back down on him.
Jaycee quickly picked up her pace, placing her hands on Jake's torso for leverage. Jake's hands grabbed a fistful of each of her ass cheeks and brought her closer to him as he rolled his hips into her.
He gave her ass harsh smack as she rode him. "Fuck baby, you ride better than half the cowgirls in Texas." Jake drawled out. Jaycee moaned back a reply as his stiffness hit a particularly deep spot that had her seeing stars.
"If you can help run a country, half as good as you fuck, I might be convinced to vote for you." Jaycee gasped. At the omission Jake stopped her. Jaycee whined.
He flipped them over so she was under him. He grasped her chin, forcing her to meet his eyes. "You don't know who you're going to vote for yet?" He asks, clicking his tongue. Jaycee shakes her head.
"Well, I guess I'll just have to give you a good reason to vote for me then." He says before pistoning his hips into her.
Jaycee clings to his biceps, her nails digging in as Jake pushes her to a finish.
He drops his thumb to her clit and rapidly strokes it. The pleasure overwhelms her, and Jaycee's orgasm rips through her body. Jake follows behind her, spilling into the condom.
He collapses beside her and catches his breath before heading to the bathroom and returning with a warm washcloth to clean her up. He grabs a shirt from his drawer and hands it to her. She looks at him confused.
"I figured you'd want something to sleep in because there is no way in hell I'm kicking you out."
....................
Jaycee quietly unlocked her door and crept in. She definitely didn't want to wake her her roommate up. She was not ready for the five thousand questions she knew that she would ask.
"Good morning, skank." Y/N said as Jaycee stepped in the kitchen.
"Girl! What the fuck!?" She exclaimed while Y/N sat at their kitchen island and sipped her coffee.
"It's 7:30 on a Saturday morning. What are you doing up so early?" Jaycee asks her. "It's 7:30 on a Saturday morning. Why are you just now getting home?" She fires back.
"How do you know I just got home?" Jaycee counters.
"Your hair is in a bun, you're wearing last night's dress, you are carrying your shoes, and you smell like cedar scented soap." Y/N states. "So, you want to tell me where you were?"
"I, um— I went home with a guy last night." Jaycee confesses.
"Why didn't you tell me? I was worried sick about you. It takes ten seconds to send a text. I was afraid something had happened! I was about to call the police!" Y/N rants. Jaycee crosses the space to hug her friend.
"I'm fine, Wise-crack. I promise, I don't need you fussing over me like a mother hen." Jaycee assures her. "You know I worry about you. After what happened— I can't talk almost losing you again." she fights back tears.
"It's been five years. Everything is okay, babe, nothing bad is going to happen. Jaycee tells her best friend.
"I know. I just can't help it. But you promised me you're okay?" Y/N asks just to be sure.
"More than okay. Now, let me get a cup of coffee and tell you all about my night. Girl, this guy had mad tricks with his tongue." Both women laugh before Jaycee recounts her escapades.
.......................
Six months later, Jaycee is in the White House. Her best friend is the Chief of Staff, and the two of them had just prevented a major scandal. Some psycho ex-employee claimed she had an affair with President Bradshaw and was pregnant by him. Y/N, being the girlboss that she was, had the woman followed and promptly destroyed any ounce of credibility that she had.
Jaycee had worked to keep the news out of the Post and had several positive articles about the president ready to go.
She and Wise-woman were currently raiding the White House kitchen for snacks and wine. They were going to have a victory sleepover and needed provisions.
Jaycee was on edge as she walked through the halls of the White House. Her one night stand from months ago was now the vice president, and she'd never told Y/N, claiming she couldn't remember his name.
She'd even gone as far as to ghost Jake Seresin after their hookup. Jaycee was sure that he'd forgotten about her and had moved on to some other socialite.
The two of them had just left the kitchen with piles of junk food when she heard a familiar voice cry out. "Wise-woman, wait up!"
Jaycee froze. Y/N turned around, while Jaycee didn't dare move. Shit, this couldn't be happening, she thought.
"Jake, before we head out, let me introduce you to my best friend. She works for the Washington Post, you might remember her from the last VP debate." Y/N says warmly.
Jaycee turns around. Jake's face lights up when he sees her. The woman who has haunted his dreams for the past six months eas standing right in front of him.
"Hello, Mr. Vice President. Jaycee Marchetti. It's nice to officially meet you." Jaycee extends her hand for him to shake. "It's lovely to see you again, Ms. Marchetti." Jake draws out as his eyes rake over her body.
"Again?" Jaycee feigns as she cocks her head to the side. "Oh, you mean how we met at the debate. Which I guess we didn't officially meet then, did we? I just asked you some questions." Jaycee laughs. "Um, yeah." Jake replies.
"Well, like I said, it's nice to officially meet you—for the first time." Jaycee reiterates. Hurt flashes across Jake's face. So, this is how it was going to be.
"Well, I'll let you ladies get back to your fun. Have a nice night." Jake says deflated.
The two women continue down the hall as Jake heads for his room.
Jaycee had pretended they'd never met before and that he didn't know her in the most intimate way. That she hadn't cried out his name over and over from his bed that night so long ago.
If he had to guess, Wise-woman didn't know that the two of them had hooked up. Jake planned to keep it that way for now. However, he wasn't going to let Jaycee Marchetti slip through his fingers again.
Babes! It's here! I hope you enjoy!

“Are you seriously going to try and hike in…” Stella pauses as she drunkenly squints at her phone, “In… 4 hours?” Her eyes are impossibly wide, brows the highest they can go, seemingly mind-blown that you could even think about hiking right now.
“Stellllaaaa, you’re not helping, I promised Jay we could go. He’s been needing this, and who am I if not a very very very good friend?” You shrug, huffing out a laugh as you realise just how drunk you’d gotten, the cold night air now letting it hit you.
Stella snorts, wrapping you up in a hug as she pouts affectionately, suddenly deciding she wanted to hold your face. “You are a very very very good friend.” She repeats back, breaking out into a fit of her own giggles as she practically throws you back into her embrace. You wrap your arms around each other, swaying together as the other bar-goers spill out for closing.
You feel the alcohol weigh your legs down as you drunkenly pace the sidewalk, clutching to your companion as you wait for the taxi that you and Stella had booked.
Matt had already picked up Sylvie, but you and Ms Kidd hadn't been ready to say goodnight to the party. Kelly was out of town at a firefighting conference with the chief, so your list of available drivers had been shortened significantly.
You dared not call Jay, not when you had been so enthusiastic about the hike. He had been drowning in caseloads the past month, and with it finally letting up some time out at Starved Rock - a state park not too far outside Chicago - was the answer. Fresh air, the wilderness, open water and a way to let all of that stress go.
Even more importantly, you had been rooming with Jay since your apartment got flooded months ago, and making sure he got some clear headspace was the least you could do.
The last thing you were going to do was let him know you’d made a mistake, if there was still hope of you bullshitting your way through the day, albeit extremely hungover, you’d chance it.
As you feel your adrenaline start to dwindle, you see the headlights of the taxi approaching you and Stella, thanking the deities that your ride was finally here.
The sooner you could get to bed, the better. Taking a deep breath, you detach yourself from Stella and climb into the back next to her, both of you letting out groaned laughter, a mix of exhaustion and delirium.
Once you exchange a brief conversation with the driver about your drop-off points you sit back in your seat, letting your whirring mind think about absolutely nothing.
You stroke through Stella’s wild curls, admiring your friend's beautiful face, making her giggle even more. You could be really affectionate when you were drunk. “You gonna be alright at the apartment? You can stay with me and Jay if you like, he’s got a pull-out couch or you could share with me?” You knew Stella could handle herself, but with Kelly being away you wanted to make sure.
“I’m all good, I got the key, I got painkillers and I got a big ass bed to pass out in. S’not my first rodeo… You of all people know that.” Stella gives you a look, alluding to all the time you’d spent together during your time at the fire academy, both studying and enjoying the Chicago nightlife. You had come all the way up together, eventually ending up at the same firehouse, Fifty-One.
“True, that is true.” You nod comically, squeezing Stella in another cuddle as you both sigh.
There’s a beat of silence and then Stella speaks up again, “Y/N?”
“Yeah, Stel’?” You answer quietly.
“You know you’re not gonna be able to hike, right?” You can hear the smile in her voice and you playfully smack her arm.
“Hey, that’s not very ‘best friend’ of you! Why aren’t you hyping me up?” Your face falls into grumpiness, pouting childishly.
“Sweetie, the only thing that would hype you up tomorrow would be a literal bump of cocaine.”
You start laughing again, “Hm, interesting suggestion, not really sure it’s an option given who my roommate is…Ugh, Stella, I’m such an asshole, what am I gonna do?”
“I would take painkillers, load up on some water, pass out, fake illness and hope Jay doesn’t know what time you got in.”
You scrub a hand at your face, you refuse to admit defeat, even though you knew Stella was most likely right.
“Okay, pills, water, pass out, fake a non-alcohol related illness, beg for mercy… I got it.”
Stella rubs your back, glancing out of the taxi as she sees you’ve arrived at Jay’s apartment building. “You got it, babe. Go on, good luck!” She encourages, scooting you out of the taxi as you give the door a firm slam shut, waving and blowing kisses as Stella moves on for home.
-
It takes you twice the amount of time it should have to make it to Jay’s floor, but eventually you do and as slowly and as quietly as possible you let yourself in, carefully closing and locking the door behind you.
Then, you place your bag by the couch and sit your swaying body on it, unstrapping your shoes and toeing them off as best you can, inching stealthily into the dark of the apartment. Not daring to even turn on a light.
Tip-toeing to the kitchen area for some painkillers and water, effectively taking both of those before stopping off at the bathroom for a pee. Luckily on the back of the bathroom door, your nightshirt is still hanging up, and you’re able to free yourself of your bar clothes, slipping right into the soft and comforting fabric of your tee.
As far as you can tell you’re doing an amazing job at getting to bed without Jay hearing a thing, and you can’t wait to text Stella about your phase one victory. Totally forgetting that you’d left your phone in your bag by the couch.
From the bathroom it’s on to the bedroom, slotting yourself inside and pressing the door carefully shut. Again, you don’t waste time with lights or anything else as you walk to the bed, placing your water on the bedside table without so much as clink or clank. Then, you crawl into bed, burrowing yourself under the covers. You let out a happy little sigh as your body begins to sink, feeling the plush of the pillow and the duvet supporting your body.
“Mhm, toasty.” You murmur to yourself, relishing with surprise that the bed is really warm, a stark contrast from the chill you’d come from.
It’s not even a minute before the exhaustion sets in, the cosiness and security of being home with Jay in the room next door lull you to sleep almost immediately.
-
Jay wakes up just before his 6 am alarm. Some might baulk at the idea of getting up at 6 am on their weekend off, but Jay had fallen asleep supremely early by his standards, at 10 pm. He was feeling rested and ready to enjoy the sunshine out at Starved Rock with you.
In the layers of fog, before awakeness reaches Jay, he doesn’t clock the warm weight pressed against him, nor the soft huffs of breath tickling his arm. In a tangle of his duvet and the extra blanket at the foot of the bed, it doesn’t quite register that any of the sensations on his skin are human.
He could be forgiven for not being more his usual aware self, it had been a long month, after all.
It’s not until he tries to sit up and wake up properly that he realises something is stopping him. Or rather, someone is stopping him.
“Wha-" He groggily murmurs, turning in his spot to see what was intruding on his personal space.
“Y/N?” He asks your sleeping form, not having been nearly loud enough to wake you. You’re sprawled in your spot in Jay’s bed, snoring softly, hugging loosely at his bicep which you’re using as a pillow. You’re drooling onto his arm, and Jay catches a whiff of the alcohol.
Clearly, you, Sylvie, and Stella had made a whole night of it.
He doesn’t know whether to be annoyed or amused, the overriding emotion still remaining confused. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he notes that it doesn’t feel weird you’re even in the bed at all, only strange due to the fact that it was unexpected.
Jay’s not sure what to do, he can only guess that there was little chance of waking up any time soon, so he opts for trying to extricate himself and go to the kitchen to start breakfast. First, however, he’d have to get out of your grip on him.
He tries several times to let your head fall onto the pillow and pull his arm free, but each time you groan in your sleep and hold him tighter, nuzzling into his arm. It makes him chuckle softly yet slightly nervous, he didn’t want to have to confront you on the predicament. Still in disbelief that you’d somehow come home, got undressed, put a shirt on, and got into his room, into his bed, all without his notice.
There’s one more attempt, a quick pull and slip of the arm is what Jay goes for but he jostles you perhaps too much, his heart quickening as you huff, letting out a disgruntled whine as your bleary eyes peak open to assess the disturbance.
What a nice dream. You think. You liked the dreams where Jay was more affectionate with you. You had been wrestling with your feelings of late.
“Mhm, good morning, handsome.” You mumble, trying to cuddle into him some more.
Except, unlike your dreams, you notice a distinct look of confusion and something akin to alarm when you cuddle Jay. He murmurs your name, trying not to be rude as he frees himself out of your grip.
There’s something about the action that sends adrenaline through you, swallowing hard as nerves thrum wildly. You realise that you’re warm still, Jay’s bare skin brushing yours feels too smooth, too real… too…
Oh god. No. No way.
“Jay?” You utter, much more awake now even with the light of day hurting your eyes, the resounding stab of a headache in your temple.
“Yeah, it’s me.” He answers simply, scratching at his head. He feels like he should get up, but it’s his bed you’re in.
Realisation dawns fast, and in a second you’re up and out of the bed, scrambling to the side of the room near the window, your hands in your face in a mortified fashion.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry, I don’t know what happened I- I thought this was MY room! Oh, Jesus, you must think I’m such a creep.” Your hangover makes your head spin, wincing at the discomfort in your stomach. “Oh god.”
Jay blinks at your outburst, simply watching you, there’s silence.
Then, his whole body is juddering, he presses a hand over his mouth, trying to stifle his laughter but he can’t.
You scowl, now certain he’s not at all offended but rather incredibly amused by your misfortune.
“Alright, laugh it up, Chuckles. I deserve it.” You motion with your hands in encouragement, letting him get it all out as you flop into the chair by his wardrobe, covering your face again, wishing the ground would swallow you up.
It takes a minute but eventually, Jay stops, catching his breath as he looks at you.
“Hey, come here.” He calls out, watching with a smile as you peek out from your hands, waiting for some kind of telling-off. You make sure to keep looking at his beautiful face, rather than letting your eyes wander over his freckled muscular chest or his wonderfully toned arms. It wasn’t news to you that Jay was good-looking, however, you never got to see him like this, in his own space, in the haze of sleep, with a bedhead.
It oddly made the whole thing almost too intimate, a pang of sadness rippled through you as you dwelled on the thought that this wasn’t your daily routine.
“Y/N, I won’t bite.” He teases, prompting you out of your own head, you hadn’t even acknowledged Jay’s request the first time. You sceptically move towards the bed, sitting on the edge you’d stumbled out of, with caution.
You can’t bring yourself to see his face up close, yet Jay reaches forward, his fingers clasping around your arm gently, just grasping to get you to look at him.
“It’s fine.” He reassures, making sure to be more serious now, eyes focused on yours. “You suck, and you so owe me for the hike I know we’ll have to miss, but you’re fine. I know you didn’t mean to sneak in here, although I commend you on the stealthiness.”
Guilt simmers within you, even when Jay had his plans upturned, he was somehow being gracious.
You shake your head, “Jay, I’m so sorry, we can still go. It’s my own damn fault, and I don’t want you to miss out.” You sit forward, giving him your full attention.
Jay shakes his head, teasing, “No way, I’m not letting you vomit on the beauty of the state park. Seriously, we’re good. We can do it next weekend, alright? Let’s just hang out today, we can have brunch, and watch a few movies. Maybe then we can take a walk around Lincoln Park later, and grab some dinner on our way back?”
Your stomach flutters for non-alcohol-related reasons, all of that sounded amazing and you were thankful for the compromise.
“Brunch, huh? Didn’t take you for a brunch guy, Halstead. That is absolutely a day I’d like to spend with you, and I’ll pay for whatever we do,” You can’t convey enough your remorse, smiling at him gratefully. “Whatever you want, you got it.” You add.
Jay nods, grinning. “Alright, that’s settled then.” His hand is still holding onto you, his thumb caressing your skin without thought, a natural instinct that makes your insides burn.
The both of you seem to realise at the same time, small laughs between you as Jay slowly releases you without making it too awkward. You smile in reassurance, you definitely hadn’t minded the contact.
He scratches lightly at the stubble on his face, stretching out the morning kinks in his back and shoulders.
You’re suddenly very aware of the fact you’re still just loitering in Jay’s room after sneaking into his bed. Now having moved much closer again, you feel self-conscious about trying not to show how much you wanted to stay. You make your exit as smooth as possible, standing back up to take a sip from your glass of water,
“So uh, I’m gonna…go, leave you to get dressed and whatnot, and I’ll uh, try not to lose my way back to my room?” You offer a sheepish smile, starting to head towards the door,
Jay laughs, “Sounds good. It’s fine, Y/N, just an accident. No harm, no foul.”
You can feel the pain in your eyeballs that reminds you you are absolutely not ready for the day, “You are actually the best...I think I'm probably gonna get a few more hours shut-eye, see you in a bit?”
He nods, “Sure thing, see you in a bit. Take some more painkillers before you sleep."
You crack open an eye from your pained expression, "Oh you can count on it, I will."
-
Jay sits in bed still feeling thoroughly surprised by the discovery of you next to him, the way you’d so naturally held on to him, and greeted him in the haze of dreaming sleep in a way that felt comfortably intimate. It had jumbled his thoughts more than he’d let on to you.
Those moments where you’d sat back on the bed, his own urge to encourage you to stay close, to sleep some more beside him. It was a desire that felt like a snowball rolling down a hill.
“Can of worms, Halstead” Jay grumbles to himself, finally willing himself away from the bed, ultimately still missing the proximity to you in those waking moments.
He hears your bedroom door shut, knowing it was clear to head to the bathroom and let his mind unscramble under the hot spray of the shower.
-
After a brunch that you had insisted be put together by you and you alone, the both of you decided to zone out for a while and watch the first Alien movie. The movie was a classic, one you and Jay both could watch time and time again.
It was a particularly cold day, and with your body still reeling from last night’s fun, you found it hard to warm yourself up, even with a blanket and warm clothes. You had complained several times about your cold feet before Jay insisted you plop your legs across his lap, he tugged another blanket off the back of the couch and draped it across the both of you, resting his hands on your sock-clad feet. It solved the problem instantly, yet created a new one.
You were finding it harder and harder to keep the line drawn between you and him.
At around 3 pm you both agreed it was time to get fresh air and see the light of day, which meant putting an extra pair of socks on your feet before leaving, complete with a scarf, jacket and hat.
Then, you were enjoying the crisp air of a walk around Lincoln Park as suggested, walking comfortably side by side through the frosted grass and trees. The sun was shining brightly, making everything under its light glisten ethereally.
Just as you had found it harder to stop thinking of Jay in a more romantically insistent light, Jay had encountered much the same problem. Holding onto you during the film, seeing the way you instantly relaxed under his touch, and now the feeling of rightness that came with spending time with you. It made his heart and gut all too clear to ignore.
Parking yourselves on a bench opposite a view out to the city’s skyline, your legs touched as you remained close. There was a silence between you as you simply took in the world passing by, the bustle of the city distant in the tranquillity of trees and water.
Without thinking you rested your head on Jay’s shoulder, instantly freezing the second your head makes contact with him, but before you can retract and apologise, you feel Jay’s arm snugly wrap around your waist, squeezing you gently into a side hug. His own beanie-covered head resting against yours.
He glances at you with a soft smile, “Thank you for today, it was, uh, it was better than a hike.”
You feel your heart skitter, and your stomach flutters in tandem. “Really?” Your brow raises, not convinced that this slightly more tame day could beat the wilderness escape you had planned with him.
“Really.” He confirms, looking at you in a way you’ve never seen him look at you, and to see it makes your breath catch in your throat.
Seconds tick by, the birds in the park chatter and chirp around you, some of them seemingly watching to see if one of you will make the first move. The wind rustles through the branches and dwindling leaves attached, it all seems to come to standstill.
Not even other passers-by filter into your periphery as you tilt your head up to meet Jay, wrapping an arm around him in kind as you hold each other close on the bench, feeling the warmth of each other as the kiss lingers sweetly on your pressed lips.
Eventually parting for a breath, giddy smiles and low chuckles escape the both of you, knocking foreheads gently as you stay in the embrace. Naturally resuming your heads resting against one another as you continue to take in the view, sitting in the silent reassurance that you were now on the same page as each other.
After a moment, Jay moves to look at you again, a slightly more mischievous smile on his face now,
“What?” You ask, somewhat curious.
“I was just wondering if you planned on getting lost again on your way to bed tonight.”
You snort, shaking your head in amusement, “Hm, I don’t know, I mean I am likely to be sober tonight… but who knows, if I forget to put the light on, I might just get confused again.” You enjoyed this teasing immensely.
Jay is only too happy to play along, “Mhm, that would be tricky, wouldn’t it? It’s a complex hallway after all.”
“It sure is.” You muse, sharing a look with Jay that lingers, one that says… Yes, you can kiss me again.
And he does, gently cupping the back of your head as he moves in for another kiss, you sigh softly into his touch, no longer affected by the outside chill. Breaking apart and glancing to see if anybody’s offended by your little makeout.
Jay’s nose is pink in the cold, matching his lips and cheeks, breathing a little harder, “Wanna head back? We can try finding the right bed together?” It’s the corniest line he’s ever used, but he wagers it just might work for the right person, for you.
You want to laugh at the line, but honestly, you are absolutely sold by it, giggling. “It’s an investigation I’m willing to take on, Detective. Come on.”
As you take Jay’s gloved hand into yours, internally you thank your and Stella’s tenacious urge to make the most of a night out.

masterlist || ao3 || firsts: meeting the family
“Congratulations boys, you officially sold-out Madison Square Garden.”
Fiona, Corroded Coffin’s manager, revealed two massive champagne bottles from behind her back and shrieked.
Chaos reigned.
For a moment, you didn’t know what to do. Skye, Gareth’s girlfriend, clutched your hand between hers so tightly you were sure she was trying to mold you two together.
“Holy shit,” she said over the boys’ screaming, “they did it, they did it!”
Steve, Jeff, and Dustin, both hugging and jumping on the couches in the recording studio, were the loudest of the group.
Fiona’s words finally sunk into your mind – the world around you going quiet as Skye jumped into Gareth’s arms and you felt Eddie take her place.
“Princess,” he breathed, eyes wide, looking a little dumbstruck.
Feeling bowled over still, you nodded dumbly. “Yeah, you did it.”
“We did it,” he repeated, sounding like an echo.
The both of you caught each other’s gazes and immediately grinned like lunatics. Without warning, his lips slammed into yours and your hands clutched at any part of him you could reach.
“You fucking did it, you did it!” You said between searing kisses. “Eddie!”
He panted against your neck, like he’d run a marathon, and before you could think of anything to say – a pillow smacked into the both of you.
Steve had his hands on his hips and Dustin had his arms crossed. “For the love of Christ, keep it in your pants.”
Annoyed, you shot them a withering glare. “I am congratulating him, you perv’!”
“Is that what the kids call it these days?” Robin asked, wiggling her brows.
Eddie huffed a laugh at that and you couldn’t help but smile. “I hate you all.”
“Even me?” Eddie asked, indignant.
You nodded. “You most of all,” you said, kissing the wrinkle on his nose. “Congratulations, I always knew you’d make it here.”
“And to think,” Jeff chuckled, eyes looking suspiciously wet, “it only took almost fifteen years.”
Knowing he’d meant it as a joke you laughed lightly almost on reflex, but then the words had sunken in.
fifteen years.
“I am so proud of you,” you said softly, the room quieting down with you. “All of you.”
Gareth, Jeff, and Liam smiled at you, looking like the emotional goofs you’d met at the theater room the day you’d gone to pick up your brother.
“I know I wasn’t there from the start, but I saw the early stuff,” your voice cracked a little and you blinked, slightly embarrassed, “and holy shit guys, you made it here.”
Jeff was the first one to stumble passed everyone and wrap you into a hug. “You weren’t there for the dumb early shit but you were there helping us unload and reload our equipment into Eddie’s shitty van for years. When it really counted.”
“Hey!” Eddie protested.
You smiled, wrapping your arms as tightly as you could around your friend. “Every Wednesday.”
Gareth laughed, joining you both in on the hug. “That bar really sucked,” he admitted, grunting when Liam slammed into you three.
“It had good fries,” Liam said.
“It did,” you laughed.
Jeff pulled back and looked around at the group of you. “It got better when you joined – Eddie got more annoying but-”
Eddie grunted. “I am right here!”
“-thanks. All of you, thank you.”
Trying to discretely wipe away a few tears, you stepped back so that the boys could have their moment. Steve and Robin came up to you. “I can’t believe you managed to fly in,” you said, nudging Robin. “Ms. World Traveler.”
“Hey,” she said, wrapping an arm around your shoulders, “when I moved, we promised to always be there for the big moments.”
Steve wrapped his around both of you. “Is Henderson calling us at four in the morning shrieking about sales considered a big moment?”
“It is because I had to find a flight back here within twelve hours,” Robin huffed, bumping him, “you try doing that while you’re at work. And, she isn’t Henderson anymore.”
You rolled your eyes, knowing that this would start their bickering all over again. It’d been barely three months since the wedding and Robin wasn’t letting it go.
“I’ve known them for two decades, she’ll always be Henderson to me,” Steve insisted, crossing his arms.
Eddie’s warm hand pulled you into his arms and you went willingly. “Are they arguing about your last name again?” He asked, chin hooking over your shoulder.
“They’ll argue about anything,” you said, placing your hands over his on your waist, eyes falling to the ring on your finger.
His huff of laughter hit your skin and you laughed when it tickled. “That’s true. Have you told them that you still haven’t technically changed it?”
“No,” you snorted, it’s a lot of paper work okay? We’ve been busy.”
“Hey, I told you – I don’t care what your name is-”
“-so romantic-”
“-as long as you’ve got my ring on your finger,” he said, ignoring your quip, “besides, I’ve been yours for a long time.”
Fingers twining through his hair, you tugged lightly and smiled when his jaw twitched.
“Your brother is glaring at us,” he warned, fingers bruising at your hip.
“I am!” Dustin’s not so far off cry came from the left. “You two need an ice bucket!”
Laughing, you kissed his chin and turned back to referee Steve and Robin’s escalating fight. “He’s your brother too now,” you said. “Besides, him and the band have bigger problems than our PDA now.”
“Yeah?”
Rolling your eyes, you shot Dustin a look. “The goal was to get here – now you’ve actually got to plan the tour.”
Eddie and Dustin’s eyes widened.
“Shit.”
Tumblr media
“I’m going to throw up,” Gareth said, palms on the desk in front of him, head hung between them.
Jeff clutched a trash can to his chest, as if daring him to take it from him. “Find your own bucket,” Jeff said, groaning.
Liam had a pair of headphones on, his eyes wide and frozen.
“I’m going to mess up, holy shit I think I forgot how to play the guitar,” Eddie muttered, his eyes wild. You pressed a palm between his shoulder blades as his breath started to come in pants.
“Eddie, you’ve known how to play the guitar since you were nine,” you said soothingly, “I think you’re more likely to forget me first.”
The line hit as intended because he swiveled his head towards you. “I’d never forget you. Never.” He smiled when he saw your grin, having caught on. “You’re seared onto my soul, Princess.”
You kissed his jaw and caught Dustin’s eye from across the room. He pointed to the guys, his wide stare saying: we have to do something about them. While you, Dustin, and Fiona had made sure their suite was set – you knew that if they juts sat around someone would definitely end up chucking up their lunch.
Glancing at the four of them, terrified, you nodded. Tour? He mouthed. You nodded again.
“Hey, guys,” you cleared your throat, “did you give the kids a tour of the place? There’s still like an hour to go and they haven’t seen anything!”
Max straightened and El looked around the room curiously. “Nancy, Jonathan, Robin, and Steve are taking a look through backstage, why don’t you show them too? I mean, it’s pretty cool. Dustin designed a bunch of pyrotechnics.”
Liam snapped out of his trance, as if reanimated into his body now that he had a purpose. “Oh, yeah, sure,” he said, wrapping an arm around Mike.
Gareth nodded, face still a little green. Jeff stood up and started towards the door. “Keep an eye on Will!” You said suddenly, eyes going towards the blushing adult. They were all almost practically adults, and absolutely able to take care of themselves, but you would always have a soft spot for him. The hand he dropped to your shoulder as he left told you that he knew. Everyone you both knew, and you meant everyone – you had to help an excited Joyce and mostly reluctant Hopper to the VIP section earlier - had flown in for this concert.
“You can join them,” Eddie said, hand rubbing down his face, “I’m going to stay here and panic until I pass out.”
Nodding, you bit back your laughter and tapped at your chin thoughtfully. “That seems like a really logical response, you should do that more often.”
Eddie wheezed, his breaths coming out faster. “I should hold conferences.”
After a few beats, Eddie’s breathing slowed and you rubbed a hand down his back. “Has anyone ever told you that you tend to be a bit of a drama queen?” You asked.
Eddie pretended to think about it as the room completely emptied out. “No, actually, I’ve been accredited for being very levelheaded during emergencies.”
Snorting, you leaned back into the couch and hummed. This was nowhere near Corroded Coffin’s first big concert – but it was their first time selling out a massive, iconic stadium. It was a first and you knew that despite the almost decade of performances, starting all the way back in The Hideout, nothing would shake the nerves out of Eddie.
Fiona was practically quadruple checking everything on her clipboard. When you’d arrived, at your scheduled ten minutes late time, she had literally checked you off her list.
An idea struck you. “Would going over the set list and making sure all the equipment is ready to go again help you out?”
“Yes?” He said sheepishly, his nose scrunching like it did when he was embarrassed. You smiled at him and pulled him to his feet.
“Come on Mr. Munson,” you said, intertwining your fingers, “let’s go get our ducks in a row.”
Tumblr media
You pushed open the door to the massive ensuite bathroom and blinked to see Eddie hadn’t moved from where you’d left him – on the chair by the sinks. Honestly, how fancy did an ensuite have to be that it had furniture in the bathroom? Even Eddie hadn’t gone that far when you’d bought your house together.
His leg was bouncing erratically, eyes screwed shut, and his fingers plucking at invisible strings. The soft spot in your heart with his name seared onto it melted at the sight of his anxiety. You’d spent an hour double checking his equipment before the sound of people chanting their names trickled into backstage and he’d rushed off to the bathroom, swearing he was going to be sick.
“Sweetheart,” you called out, “you’re going to drive yourself insane. It’s thirty minutes until you’re on, you’ve got this. Just think of it as another concert. You guys have done loads of those, this is just another one. You sold out in LA too!”
“I know,” he mumbled, eyes still tight around the corners.
“Eddie, I-”
His hand on your arm stopped you. “I know what you’re going to say.”
“You do?” You said, smiling at his animated expression.
“Yes. Eddie, you play really well, you’ve earned this, you guys have a growing fanbase, the debut album is on the top one hundred, I love you, you look like a god, and you’ve ruined me for any other guy,” he said, high pitched imitation of your voice. “That orgasm you gave me this morning was your best work.”
“First, I don’t sound like that.” You quirked a brow and he smiled, eyes sparkling and mischievous. “Second, you’re a menace to society.”
Eddie grinned at you, teasing like always, but an idea grew in your head. “But did I lie?” He asked.
You shook your head and reached into the waistband of your skirt. “I know this will be a big shock to you but, that’s actually not what I was going to say.”
Eddie smirked, eyes darting across your face, curious. “Was I close? I can keep guessing.”
“I have something that might keep you calm,” you said, the black lace spilling out of your hand. Eddie’s eyes dropped to your hand clenched around the scrap of fabric.
His brows disappeared into his hair and you smirked. “Is that…”
You leaned forward, grabbing his hand, and spoke lowly, “The black set that you love? Yeah.” Dropping the underwear into his open palm, you grinned at his dumbfounded look.
So, for the first time in the years since you’d been with him, you watched Eddie’s jaw go slack. After fighting demobats, Vecna, escaping the Upside Down, signing to a record label, a few national tours, you didn’t think you were capable of surprising him still. You were glad to see you still had some tricks up your sleeve.
“Did you – is that – holy shit,” Eddie stammered, “please tell me these are the ones that were on your body.”
“Took them off a few minutes ago in the hallway bathroom,” you said, lips trailing down his jaw. You felt his Adam’s apple bob as he swallowed. “Thought they’d be good luck for your concert. The same way my lipstick tends to be.”
Stunned into silence, you took advantage of the moment.
You made sure he watched you as you pulled a tube of lipstick from your bra out. His eyes followed your hands as you applied a fresh coat. Leaning over to kiss his neck once firmly, you used a nearby tissue to wipe off the excess from your lips.
“Like when I first watched you play at that club in college, with that girl who kept putting her hands on you,” Eddie grinned, pupils darkening, “I want all your new fans to know that while I’m willing to share - you’re mine. Okay?” Eddie’s expression morphed into a familiar one and you fought the urge to smile. It’d been years and you knew it still pushed all the right buttons when you told him that. Your hand curled around his neck, squeezing just a little in the way you knew drove him crazy.
“And I’m the menace?” Eddie breathed, eyes wild and hands tightening around you. “Holy shit, I can’t believe you just – I’m so turned on right now.”
“It’s a good thing we have about fifteen minutes before everyone probably piles back into the green room,” you whispered, walking back through the bathroom and locking the door. Sauntering over to him, you bit down on the other side of his neck and mouthed around the sensitive skin. Eddie twitched as his hands came down to your hips and he maneuvered you onto his lap. You squeaked as you helped him move you both into a comfortable position and laughed when you were level with his excited expression.
“You’re unbelievable,” he breathed, the excited familiar glint in his eye making your stomach flip.
Tapping your chin with your index finger, you pretended to look deep in thought. “You know, I like to say that to myself every morning so my sparkle doesn’t dull,” you quipped back.
Eddie threw his head back and laughed, the last remnants of his anxiety falling away. “Someone’s feeling sarcastic today,” he teased, tongue dragging across his bottom lip. You felt your blood simmer and experimentally ground down into his hips.
“It’s a side effect from being around you too long,” you said, determined to have the last word.
Grinning, Eddie looked ready with a rebuttal but you dropped your lips to his. Your restraint snapped at the same time because your hands immediately collided.
“Fuck,” Eddie mumbled as you sucked a hickey below the lipstick mark, your teeth nipping at his skin, “I love you so much, Peach, so much.”
Smiling, you lapped at the bruised skin almost in apology and startled when you felt his cool hand cup you beneath your skirt. Wasting no time, he took advantage at the lack of barriers and sunk his fingers into you.
“Eddie,” you said, panting a little as his fingers rubbed you in the right spot. “Eddie, there’s no time for us to-”
He tutted. “You can’t start something and not finish.”
Your breath hitched as his knees nudged your own further apart. “Eddie, anyone can walk into the green room and hear us,” you gasped as he brushed against the bundle of nerves. His wide grin told you he was enjoying this.
“Should’ve thought about that before you handed me your underwear, Princess. You know I can’t get enough of you as it is,” he said between open mouthed kisses to your neck.
Mind scrambled already, you panted. “We might not have enough time for the both of us,” you said, hand coming to stop his.
Eddie stilled, leaning back to look at your face. “We have time for you, I can tell,” he said, twitching against you. Trying not to smile, you knew you failed when he beamed at you.
This night wasn’t about you – it was about him. You knew he’d never it go, like a dog with a bone. Well, you could be stubborn too. “Both of us or nothing,” you said, eyes slanting and tone turning bossy.
He huffed. “Princess-”
Hand coming back up to his neck, you lifted yourself above him and pressed him into the velvety chair. “You’re not in charge here.”
The hardness beneath you grew steadily. Groaning, he dropped his head and pulled his hand back to your hip. “You’re killing me Peach, you’re killing me.”
You leaned over to grab at his wrist and smiled when you saw the time. “What I did was successfully distract you to showtime.”
“What?” Eddie said, checking the time himself. “You little enchantress.”
“You’re a little predictable,” you admitted, letting your arms rest around his neck. You dug one hand into his hair, raking your nails across his scalp softly while the other unbuckled Eddie’s pants and shoved his underwear down just far enough. He sprung out, searing hot and already leaking.
Eddie grunted, hand stilling yours but you smacked it away. “Both of us or nothing Munson,” you said again, plucking a condom from your bra.
Pupils blown, he gaped. “Jesus, what else do you have in there?”
Laughing, you rolled it onto him and winked. “Wouldn’t you like to know?” You both groaned when you seated yourself fully onto him. The angle and force were unforgiving, tears almost instantly gathering at the corner of your eyes.
“Holy shit,” you hissed, needing a second. It’d been a while since you’d both found yourselves both unable to keep your hands off each other and pressed for time. The sudden stretch ached a little but you could handle it. “Okay?” You asked him, already starting to lift yourself off him.
Eddie’s face was flushed bright red, his head thrown back, and hands clenched around your shirt. “Yeah, I’m perfect,” he croaked.
With a familiar urgency, you set an unrelenting pace and your skin smacked against his. The sound was lewd and loud but you couldn’t help and drown in it. It only took a few moments for your thighs to begin to shake and Eddie hauled you to your feet.
Whining at the loss of him, he maneuvered you against the sink, arms resting on the cold marble. Your eyes caught his in the mirror, his hair was wild from where you’d been clutching at it. “Be quiet for me, Princess,” he said, giving your ass a smack and laughing when you squeaked.
“I swear to God Eddie if you don’t-” you hissed the moment he slammed into you, both of you fumbling with the force. His hand settled on your hip and the other trailed down to the bundle of nerves between your legs. If you could think past the heat curling in your stomach and your racing pulse you would’ve remembered to be embarrassed at how rapidly you fell apart in his hands during a quickie.
Your head fell down to your arms, white flashing across your eyelids, your legs threatening to give out from under you as he kept thrusting into you. Oversensitive almost immediately, you needed him to join you. Trembling, you used the last of your energy to reach for him. Your hand tugged him to you, his hair tangled around your fingers. Biting down on his bottom lip, you swallowed his moan, pulled his curls a touch shy of painful, and felt his hips stumble. He stilled, his grip on your hip bruising and you both collapsed against the counter.
“Holy shit,” Eddie stammered, “I think I’m blind.”
Snorting, you swatted him and he weakly stumbled away. With shaking hands, you pulled your skirt back up and straightened your shirt. “I’m insulted,” you said, taking a few deep breaths as you got the feeling back in your feet. Shaking out your left leg, you fanned at your warm face.
“What?”
“That wasn’t even some of my best work,” you told him, smiling when he grinned. He jumped as he pulled his pants back up his legs and you did your best not to ogle him.
Not one to let it go unnoticed, Eddie smirked. “What? Ready for round two?”
Your laughter echoed as your breathe settled. “We don’t have time for round two,” you said, shoving at his shoulder. He settled into the chair and pulled you down with him. Steady in his lap again, you flicked his nose. “This is how round one started...fourteen minutes ago. Oh, new record for the both of us.”
“Is it?” He asked, pretending to look oblivious. “Huh, what a coincidence.”
Running a hand through his hair, you untangled a few pieces delicately and shook your head at him. “You’re relentless,” you said, “you’d think after this long you’d learn to exercise some restraint.”
“Who followed who into the bathroom?” Eddie’s brow quirked.
“True,” you said, “but you looked about two seconds from passing out. I had to do something.”
“A quickie was the solution?”
You grinned, shameless. “You seem much more relaxed,” you said with a shrug.
“I’d be even more relaxed if I could just, woops,” he said in faux worry, pulling your shirt’s strap out onto your shoulder. Your shirt was loose enough that the black lace was visible. “Ugh, I do love this set.” He leaned his cheek onto your breasts and you snorted.
“Would you like me to leave you three alone?”
“Honestly, I could die happy right here,” he said, licking a stripe up the lace, making sure to mouth at your nipple. The suction sent a shiver throughout your body and you scrambled to rein it in.
Pinching his side, Eddie yelped. “Behave,” you warned, already feeling the telltale sign of him gearing up for a second round beneath you.
Eddie nipped at your skin in retaliation and you squeaked, laughing when he had to dart forward to keep you from falling. At that moment, the door behind you opened. Steve’s face swam into your peripheral and he stood frozen for a beat before slamming the door shut.
“What the fuck?” You heard someone say through the door.
“Can you guys not keep it in your pants for any occasion?” Steve shouted; his voice muffled. “Have I need been tortured enough throughout the years?”
“What?” Someone shouted followed by a very Dustin sounding gagging noise.
“Get it, Munson!” Robin shouted, her laugh echoing.
Gareth’s voice thundered. “For the love of suffering Jesus, can you both get yourselves under control!”
Eddie grinned, giving the swell of your breast one last nip before helping you stand. You straightened your skirt and shot Eddie a look to behave. In response, he shoved your underwear into his back pocket and winked at you.
Casually opening the door, you grinned at your friends. “Managed to get him to calm down,” you joked, laughing when mostly everyone groaned.
“Get a room!” Steve muttered.
“Yeah, we had one,” Eddie said, coming up behind you. “Everyone okay?”
“Aside from adding another traumatic event to my pile?” Steve grunted, leaning against the far wall. “Peachy.”
Eddie snorted and you laughed. “Sorry Stevie,” you said, widening your eyes. “We were both fully clothed. To be fair, I did walk in on you and your exes like fifty times over the years because you have the inability to properly lock a room. So really, I’m just evening out the playing field.”
Steve’s jaw dropped in outrage and you watched as the group descended into familiar chaos. Eddie’s arm dropped around your shoulders and he pulled you into his chest. His heartbeat pulsed through you, strong and quick.
“Corroded Coffin?” One of the PAs called out. “Fiona says we need you by stage left in five.”
“They’ll be right there,” Nancy said when everyone froze.
Dustin was the first to move. “Shit, we gotta get good spots in the VIP section – I want to record some of it. Come on!” Most of the group called out encouragement, slapping the guys’ shoulders.
“Hey,” you said, before you extracted yourself from his arms, “you did it, sweetheart. You made it here. Just another little ol’ concert, okay?”
Eddie exhaled deeply and nodded.
“I love you, Mr. Munson.” you said, smacking his ass hard enough for him to stumble. “Kick ass and play like our lives depend on it.”
Laughing, Eddie shook his head and pressed one last kiss to your lips. “I love you too, Mrs. Munson,” he inhaled deeply and shook his head, “let’s start every concert off this way from now on, okay?” He grunted when you swatted at him.
Fifteen minutes later, you watched as the crowd around you screamed once the first chords echoed throughout the stadium. A familiar voice greeted the crowd.
“Hello New York City! How are you all doing tonight?” Eddie grinned, his smile almost splitting his face in two.
Your heart sung as Eddie settled into his well-rehearsed spot. The lights dimmed and the crowd went eerily quiet. Breath caught in your lungs, you pressed your hands to your chest and hoped everything went according to plan.
Then, cutting through the darkness, Garret’s voice softly echoed.
“One, two, three, four!”
A/N2: I liiiiiiiiiive! So, in my defense, I got so sick (seriously, guys, I've never been this fkn sick in my entire life) and the holidays hit me like a truck. But, alas, I'm back! (kinda? lmao) Hope you guys had a great new year!

To Moony, With Love Chapter 1
(I started my new @wolfstarbingo2024 fic for the square Spy AU. Let's have some fun XD)
Snippet:
As the dealer doled them out, Sirius felt a tap on the shoulder. “Mr. Black?”
“Yes?”
“I was asked to deliver a message,” the man who worked in the casino said. Sirius looked around surreptitiously and cast a nonverbal Muffliato spell.
“Very well. What is it?” Sirius asked.
“The moon is waxing.” If the man thought the message odd, he didn’t betray his skepticism.
Sirius nodded. Remus was getting impatient back at command. He sometimes forgot that being in the field wasn’t always quick or straight forward.
“Please tell Mr. Potter that the full moon will happen when it’s expected,” Sirius said. The man nodded and walked away. Alecto watched this exchange with interest though Sirius knew she didn’t hear them.
When Sirius was sure he had Alecto’s attention, he left the poker table and made his way to the opposite side of the bar from James. Their eyes met for a split second and James gave an almost imperceptible nod.
“Mr. Black is it?” Alecto asked, coming up next to him.
“It is, Ms…”
“Carrow,” she said, offering her hand.
“Charmed, I’m sure,” Sirius said, making a show of kissing her hand. “Would you care for a drink?”
“A glass of champagne will do.”
Sirius signaled for the bartender and ordered, “A glass of champagne and a martini. Shaken, not stirred.” He turned his attention to Alecto, who perched on a bar stool, which increased her height so they were almost eye to eye.
“There’s something familiar about you, Mr. Black.”

Cleaning and maintaining of SS flat wire
The cleaner SS flat wire can be kept when in storage, processing, or usage, the better the chance of achieving maximum corrosion resistance, which is the primary rationale for employing SS flat wire in the first place. Ensure that your SS flat wire supply remains in excellent condition before being delivered to your clients.
Why Is Maintenance So Important?
Surface pollution and deposit deposition are key issues that can drastically affect life expectancy. These contaminants could be microscopic iron or rust particles from SS flat wire used in neighboring construction that was not properly removed. Corrosive deposits can form in industrial, commercial, and even home settings, as well as naturally occurring atmospheric conditions. Salt deposits from aquatic environments are an example. Long periods of exposure to working environments might raise the risk of corrosion, necessitating more frequent maintenance, especially when work is being done in the immediate vicinity. Because modern construction procedures employ more cleaners and possibly dangerous products, it's important to avoid contacting the SS flat wire with these materials.
·     Until the SS flat wire has been processed, wrap it in paper or another protective covering.
·     To avoid stains or finger marks, handle SS flat wire with clean gloves or clothing.
Stainless steel cleaning: For aesthetic reasons and to maintain corrosion resistance, SS flat wire must be cleaned. A thin layer of chromium oxide protects SS flat wire...

so i'm so happy about mcc harry update. it was so so so good. you really put me in the story every time. i love you, guru!!
BUT BUT what about this stepmom fic you're writing? Remember it was either mcc harry update or stepmom x harry with that poll and i'm so curious to know more.
will that one be posted soon? would you offer us a small little sneak peek for it? if you can!
so glad you liked the mcc check in! it was fun to write :) :)
As for stepmom x harry 👀 well i have been working diligently. I'm at about 7.5k words in and for those of you into that kind of thing (I know I am) I think you'll love it.
And for those wondering - y/n is married to harry's dad - met harry when he was 19, and is shy of 7 years older (in case any of that is important or makes you want to not continue reading).
Here's a small peek at what I've got at the moment. Enjoy!
. . .
Josh was the bartender that evening. A cute college-aged young man with a bright smile who always remembered her name.
“Of course, Ms. Y/n. Will swap these out. As usual.” He winked.
She leaned over the bar as she took a quick sip of her martini while Josh went to retrieve Cyndee’s card. She looked down the bar at the faces of other patrons and suddenly was met with the clear green eyes of Leo’s son, Harry. Her stepson. She wasn’t sure if he’d seen her and it wasn’t as if Y/n had done anything wrong but she just hadn’t expected to see him there.
She leaned up again, peering around the woman sitting on the stool to her left and her eyes landed on the young man. Freshly shorn dark curls and a soft pink smile crooked up as he spoke animatedly to the guy sitting next to him. And just as she assumed he hadn’t seen her he turned and looked at her squarely, nodding in acknowledgment before pulling himself off the stool he was on and making his way across the bar to her.
“Is that Harry?” Marla spoke as she leaned in.
“Yes, it is.”
Harry was a nice young man. He was polite, sometimes overly polite she thought, and he was charming. Y/n liked Harry. She didn’t know him all that well. He lived on campus at the university so she saw him rarely. But she did recognize that he’d cut his hair. He had long dark curls when she first met him. He looked like a bad boy, covered in tattoos with a permanent smirk on his face. But once she got to talking to him, she realized, he was a big sweetheart really. The long dark hair and tattoos were just a look. A style. Harry was a nice young man.
The truth was, all the girls joked about how attractive Leo and his son were. Both men were quite handsome. Y/n couldn’t deny that. Harry was tall like his father and built nicely. Long legs and a well-muscled chest. A great jawline and crystal green eyes that allured.
“Hi, Y/n. Marla,” Harry spoke as he looked from Y/n to Marla.
And that was another thing about him. He always remembered everyone’s name. He had met Marla maybe twice, yet here he was drinking beers at a bar and remembering the name of Y/n’s best friend whom he barely knew.
“Hi Harry,” Y/n smiled up at him, “Like the hair,” She reached up and whisked a finger into a short curl before bringing her hand back down into her own space.
Harry smiled broadly, a glorious dimple digging into his cheek as he raised an arm and ran his long fingers through his soft dark hair, “Oh! Yeah. Thank you. Got it cut a few weeks ago. Still getting used to it. Um, how are you doing?”
“Good. Girl’s Night, you know,” she shrugged and looked over at Marla who stood next to her, “We’re here every other Friday for some dancing and drinks,” when she turned her gaze back to Harry’s his soft eyes were intently watching her as she spoke. “Um, yeah. How are you? How’s school?”
Harry tipped himself forward to his toes and then lowered back down to his normal height, “Good. S’good. Already looking forward to Spring break,” he chuckled.
“Oh yeah! Me too. I’m not even in school and I’m already making plans,” she chuckled.
Suddenly something dawned on Y/n. Her eyes went wide and then she squinted as she looked at her stepson, “Wait. You’re not 21. You’re too young to be here, Mister.”
Harry snorted a laugh and nodded, “I know. I know. But I’m turning 21 in two weeks. Figured I’d try my hand at underage drinking once in my life. Before it’s too late,” he grinned.
“So you’ve never done this before?”
“Nope. First time. And of course, my stepmom is here when I do. Just my luck.”
