The title directly means "misery" and in conversation it means happiness and sadness and a balance.

I don't think a debut album needs 20 tracks. There are a lot of different influences that I noticed like afro while also Colombian and noted Peruvian music, which is cool and different. There are also a few skits in here while it being her debut album, they don't make sense. No one cares yet.

The tracks themselves are 'ok'. The vocals are too light and airey throughout without much change throughout the album. She's getting a lot of praise from other blogs, but I fail to see why.

Dopo un iniziale apprendistato alla corte di Pino Daniele, che fu il suo primo produttore, Joe Barbieri ha fatto il suo debutto nel 2004 con l'album "In Parole Povere". Questo lavoro, un irresistibile caleidoscopio che unisce la world music al jazz e alla tradizione cantautorale italiana, è stato pubblicato in dodici Paesi e ha conquistato il titolo di disco dell'anno da parte del periodico tedesco Cd-Kritik. "Respiro", del 2012, ha visto la partecipazione di artisti del calibro di Jorge Drexler, Gianmaria Testa, Fabrizio Bosso e Stefano Bollani. L'album è stato un successo in Italia, debuttando in classifica FIMI, e ha consolidato la presenza internazionale di Barbieri con concerti in tutto il mondo. Joe Barbieri è anche riconosciuto per i suoi album-tributo a Chet Baker ("Chet Lives!", 2013) e a Billie Holiday ("Dear Billie", 2019), oltre ad altri progetti che dimostrano la sua versatilità e profonda connessione con la storia del jazz. Il 2021 ha segnato il suo ritorno alle proprie canzoni con l'uscita di "Tratto Da Una Storia Vera", un album sinfonico con la partecipazione di numerosi artisti, tra cui Jaques Morelenbaum, Carmen Consoli e Mauro Ottolini. 469. Manu Chao- “clandestino”

I can’t describe how much i love this album, it’s just amazing and perfect to me.

I grew up listening to Manu for my dad.

I learned many things with them, they taught me to be proud of my roots, to respect my planet and just to be happy person.

This album is catchy and joyful, you will want to dance, cry, love, smoke and live happily.

It is a well executed record, all the musicians who worked on it are excellent.

The combination of reggae and other latin american sounds are so smart and respectful to our music.

The production is amazing, the transitions are smooth and consistent. Please listen to this album with headphones so that you can appreciate all the details.

You will be surprised by the cultural diversity of this album, the genres, the languages ​​and the representation of so many countries. And in the end we all have the same thing in common, we all want to live in a free land.

This album talks about love, sex, our roots, migrants, our planet, weed and being free. It’s just a powerful album that speaks to a lot of us.

Album #469: Manu Chao “Clandestino” (1998)

Manu Chao began his musical career busking in the streets and subways of Paris. I have never heard of him, and I don’t think I have ever heard any of this music. This album features Chao singing in four different languages, which alone is fairly impressive. According to Wikipedia, he can sing in no less than nine languages. Whoa! The vocals on the Spanish tracks are actually slow enough that I can understand the majority of what he is singing about without looking up the lyrics. 

The featured instrument on the majority of the tracks on this album is an acoustic guitar, which I assume Chao is playing. There is a bit of a reggae vibe on most of the tracks as well. The almost-spoken English track “Bongo Bong” seamlessly rolls into the French track titled “Je ne t'aime plus." I don’t know enough French to tell you what that song is about, but it has an airy vibe to it. There is quite an unexpected intimacy for the listener in this album, achieved through the controlled energy of the instrumentation and Chao’s warm, inviting vocals on each track. The intensity of this album peaks on the track “Luna y Sol,” which lures the listener in with an impressive acoustic guitar riff before swelling into a samba beat. That track as well as “Malegría” are my two favorite tracks from the album. The various soundbites throughout the album are from a speech written by Subcomandante Marcos, a Mexican insurgent.

How I Listened: Spotify

Takeaway: I have listened to very little music from around the world. This is truly a global album, and it makes me realize how much music I have missed out on by failing to expand my horizons beyond the U.S. music scene. I need to be more diligent about searching out music from all around the world.
