Maris Baratheon - Elie Saab Haute Couture Fall 2023

Maris Baratheon was a noblewoman from House Baratheon during the Dance of Dragons.  She was one of the four daughters of Lord Borros Baratheon of Storm’s End. She and her sisters were known as the Four Storms. According to her father, Lord Borros Baratheon, Maris was the cleverest of the Four Storms. She was less comely than her sisters, and grew angry that Prince Aemond preferred them to her At the start of the Dance of the Dragons, Prince Aemond Targaryen was sent by the green council to Storm’s End to gain the support of its lord for the greens. Lord Borros offered the hand of any of his four daughters to the prince, noting that Maris would make a clever wife. Aemond agreed to a betrothal, though the identity of the daughter is not known, save it was not Maris.

The Four Storms Headcanons for my fic

Cassandra Baratheon

Called "Cass" by her sisters and "Cassie" by her mother, Elenda

She is the eldest sister at twenty years old but her speech and manners make her seem older

She is jealous of her bastard older brother and worries her father Borros will name him heir before her mother, Elenda, has a son

When she was young she often took care of her sisters as a result she no longer wants to have children after having to already raise them

She has never forgiven her parents for not allowing her to be a member of the court in King's Landing and believes she could have charmed then married Aegon the 2nd had they let her go

Maris Baratheon

She is closest to her sister, Cassandra, and as children they were as thick as thieves

While she is considered by many to be less beautiful than her sisters, it is mostly based around her unconventional clothing and sharp tongue which insults more often than not

Though Borros never admits it, Maris is his favorite child

She likes to read fervently and will ramble on to anyone who will listen about her books

Sometimes she taunts potential suitors to get a reaction out of them, knights have had to get involved in the past

Ellyn Baratheon

Her companion wherever she goes is a black and grey cat she calls Edric

She would be Aemond's favorite due to her gentle and kind disposition which reminds him of Alicent and Helaena

Despite her best efforts, Ellyn is often forgotten compared to her sisters

While she is shy and generally cautious, the first time she saw Vhagar she was in awe

Deep down she wishes to leave Storm's End and become her own person separate from her family

Floris Baratheon

Due to being showered with compliments since she was a small child, Floris is slightly vain

Her mother Elenda considers Floris her favorite child

She loves to wear flowers as accessories

For fun, Floris enjoys dancing, singing, and watching the knights in Storm's End while they duel

Floris was secretly happy that the betrothal with Aemond didn't occur because she is scared of having children young and of going through the pain her mother goes through by trying for a son

We have no record of which daughter Prince Aemond finally decided on (though Mushroom tells us that he kissed all four, to “taste the nectar of their lips”), save that it was not Maris. Munkun writes that the prince and Lord Borros were haggling over dates and dowries on the morning Lucerys Velaryon appeared. Vhagar sensed his coming first. Guardsmen walking the battlements of the castle’s mighty curtain walls clutched their spears in sudden terror when she woke with a roar that shook the very foundations of Durran’s Defiance. Even Arrax quailed before that sound, we are told, and Luke plied his whip freely as he forced him down.

I was rewatching 1.02 (for fic purposes) and noticed an interesting little detail: the first Kingsguard candidate introduced to Rhaenyra is Ser Desmond Caron, son of Royce Caron. In the books, Royce Caron is the father of Elenda, wife of Borros Baratheon and mother of the Four Storms. Desmond is their brother-in-law and uncle, respectively.

In that scene, Otto advises Rhaenyra to chose a knight who can bring the crown a political alliance (though not specifically Desmond), but Rhaenyra rejects his advice and chooses Criston instead. Rhaenyra rejecting Desmond was foreshadowing that she would lose the alliance with the Baratheons. I can't believe I didn't put that together earlier!

(I’m all about the brotherly dynamic of Aemond and Daeron!! .)

He’s the complete opposite of his brothers.

Unlike Aemond, Daeron loves tourneys and jousting.

He has deadly golden retriever energy. Joyful and friendly but don’t fuck with him.

He’s like the Rhaenys to Aemond’s Visenya. He’s the most people person brother. This is his greatest strength.

Tall asf for his age. Taller than both of his brothers. He hit a growth spurt at 13 and is now 6ft and he’s still growing.

At 14 Daeron was already unhorsing men twice his size In jousting matches.

One of the most handsome men in Westeros too. Women practically throw themselves at him. He chooses to be completely oblivious to it.

Both Aegon and Aemond envy him. He’s everything Alicent and Otto wanted them to be.

Aemond sees Daeron as someone he could’ve been if he didn’t lose his eye. But Aemond doesn’t hold it against his little brother. He could never. Especially since Daeron looks up to him.

When Daeron did visit his family for holidays, he always makes time to help his sister with her charity work.

His biggest flaw is that he’s a bit too optimistic and honorable. He always tries to see the good in others. A big example of this is when he always gives his brothers the benefit of the doubt.

After the Luke incident, even Alicent lost faith in Aemond. Daeron was the only one there for Aemond emotionally.

Aemond breaks down to Daeron telling him that he didn’t mean to kill his nephew.

Daeron is always there to pull Aemond back from the darkness and encourage him to not be the one eyed monster that Westeros believes him to be.

Daeron: Show them what I see. Show them the kind and compassionate man I know you are Aemond.

Aemond: I wish I could be that man little brother…but I am afraid he died with Lucerys Velaryon…

Daeron basically became the Green’s PR manager. He knew it was important to win over the love of the small folk.

Especially since now Aemond was seen as a kinslayer and Aegon’s reputation was less than savory.

The reason that the small folk loved the Greens was mostly because of Daeron’s actions.

He wrote and encouraged songs to be sung about Queen Helaena’s beauty and Aegon’s strength.

Daeron did a lot of in charity work and frequented orphanages. He’d take orphans on dragon rides on the back of Tesseron.

He always donated leftovers from the castle to be given to the people in flee bottom.

He basically ran the city while Aegon drank and Aemond went to war.

Daeron commissioned to improve Kingslanding’s buildings and put in a hydro powered sewage system.He wanted to redesign the entire city to look like a mix of Old Town and Old Valyria.

He also knew that it was important that the small folk had jobs to keep them busy and paid.

Otto noticed Daeron’s achievements and named him commander of the city watch.

(I like this idea for him it parallels to Jon’s time leading the crows. Everyone underestimates him because he’s young but he proves himself to be a great leader.)

Daeron went to work stomping out the corruption within the city watch. He had Ser Gwayne as his right hand and together they put a end to child pit fighting (much to Aegon’s annoyance). He also targeted the use of children under the age of 13 in brothels making it illegal.

This really pissed Ser Luther Largent the former corrupt City Watch Commander. He was enraged that he was replaced by a teenage boy. So much so, that one day Luther challenged the Daeron to a duel in front of the entire city.

To everyone’s surprise, Daeron won by slashing his Achilles’ tendon. Watching the 7 foot man fall in agonizing pain.

Daeron demonstrated his mercy by allowing Luther to live but stripped of his rank.
