Today we'd like to highlight @whyisaravenlike-awritingdesk! With one of the most gorgeous nessian fics in the fandom, it feels wild it took us this long to get to her. Every fic is a masterpiece, though we have our favorites (see them below!).

Begged and Borrowed Time:

To save her sisters from starvation, Nesta married Tomas before Feyre went over the wall. When Feyre returns to ask her sisters for help getting the second half of the Book of Breathings, Nesta is dragged into the conflict above the wall, and brought into contact with a certain Night Court General, who she can't help but be annoyed by and drawn to in equal measure. Stuck in a loveless marriage that no longer serves a purpose, Nesta meets Cassian at entirely the wrong time-- but that isn't enough to stop either of them.

It’s 1575, and Nesta Archeron, lady-in-waiting and favourite of Queen Elizabeth I is trying incredibly hard to forget about the bastard nobleman who, eight months ago, stole her heart before leaving to be a privateer. Now, at the Kenilworth pageant thrown in the queen’s honour, Cassian is back and trying to win Nesta round all over again— but there’s no way she’s going to let him off easy.

Promise:

This began as a one-shot fixing the scene in ACOFAS that made my blood boil: the scene where Cassian walks Nesta home. Here, Cassian realises how much she's hurting and actually does something about it. This will be a three or four part bridge between ACOFAS and ACOSF. Pretty much no plot except fluff and eventual Valkyrie antics, because I would die for Nesta, Gwyn and Emerie.

OKAY SO I did not have time to answer this the past week. Now I do!

"What is Puyo Puyo about?"

There's MANY ways to answer this question. Gameplay-wise, it's a Competitive Action-Puzzle Game and Japanese e-Sport about efficient chain-building and reading your opponents' intentions.

The longer a chain you build, the more powerful the spells your character casts. Damage you deal manifests as obstacles on the opponents' board. Your goal is to overwhelm your opponent so swiftly and decisively that they can't recover and strike back, earning you a victory.

Story-wise it is a huge, sprawling multiverse of magic-users, monsters demons, deities and sci-fi creatures, all encountering and interacting with each other across many different dimensions. Many times the stories are pure Slice-of-Life fluff between the characters, others the fate of multiple worlds is at stake.

The central main character (though she shares the spotlight with many others) is a talented young sorceress named "Arle Nadja", who at the age of 16 years old accidentally stole the pet Carbuncle of Satan, the Dark Prince, overlord of the demon realm and the most powerful magical being in the multiverse. Ever since then, Arle has been chased around the multiverse by Satan, who sees her stealing his pet as a sign she's his destined soulmate and wants to marry her, and by the Dark Mage Schezo Wegey, who wants to steal her magic power from her. She is also antagonized by Rulue, the Queen of Martial Arts, who wants to be Satan's wife herself and thus sees Arle as a rival for his affections. Arle has a weird relationship with all three of them, considering them more friends than enemies most of the time. There are also other people Arle often interacts with, such as a greedy and inventive witchling only known as "Witch", a half-dragon girl named "Draco Centauros", who's obsessed with food and beauty pageants, a dancing magical fish with legs and arms who acts like a middle-aged man staving off a midlife crisis, Suketoudara, a tone-deaf Harpy and a shy and easily panicked mermaid named "Serilly", who lives in fear of being killed and eaten for her magic flesh.

On her journeys Arle ends up in another magical world where she makes friend with a young friendly, but ditzy magic student named Amitie, who's secretly destined to save her world with her hidden divine powers (but nobody knows about that yet). Amitie goes to school with her best friend, Sig, an exchange student who, unbeknownst to himself, is actually the descendant and reincarnation of a part of a shattered and sealed demon overlord. Sig himself, however, is a very quiet, placid boy who really just wants to sleep in in the morning and watch insects. He's barely even interested in magic, despite studying it. There is also Raffina, another magic student in Amitie's year who has been ostracized from her rich family for having extremely weak magic powers and has resolved to carve out her own way in life by becoming the "most powerful and most elegant lady" in the world. She, like Rulue, practices martial arts. Other students are Klug, a nerdy edgelord who wants to be a powerful and feared dark sorcerer and is abusing the power of the book that holds the other fragment of the soul of the demon lord Sig was reincarnated from to boost his magic power (and occasionally gets possessed by it), Lidelle a shy demihuman girl with an anxiety disorder, who isn't sure how to make herself comfortable with herself and admires other demihumans and demons for their confidence, Feli, a magic student and prodigy oracle from another school who is obsessed with cursecraft and often threatens others with murder, and Lemres, an older student from the same school as Feli, who's reknown as a genius sorcerer despite still being a minor and who both Klug and Feli are crushing on hard. Amitie's school is run by a sorceress called "Ms. Accord", who has some dark secrets connected to the cursed cat plushie named Popoi she always carries around, but nobody knows what the deal with that really is.

Later on, we also visit earth- yes, EARTH - and then it's Isekai time! The protagonist of this section of the cast is Ringo Ando, an eccentric and nerdy (but otherwise normal) Japanese Middle School Girl who's obsessed with unraveling the mysteries of the universe. Her best friend is Maguro Sasaki, a teenage boy who's extremely popular at school and has talent at every single hobby imaginable, including but not limited to: Gaming, sports, academics, arts, crafts, Kendama tricks etc. etc... They're accompanied by their upperclassman, a chemistry-obsessed student who goes only by "Risukuma" and who looks like a guy wearing a fursuit that's a cross between a squirrel and a bear, though nobody has ever seen him underneath that "suit" and some are unsure if it even IS a suit. Ringo has a frenemy-ship (leaning closer and closer to just "friendship") with an interdimensional being known as "Ecolo", who calls himself the "Wanderer of Worlds/Spacetime Traveler"(depending on translation) and appears to be a sort of glitch in spacetime who messes with the laws of reality just by existing. He's childish, mishivous, capricious and has an obsession with Ringo due to her being pretty much his only friend.

This is just a selection of the characters that appear in the series. There are many, many, many, many, MANY more. The stories are highly character driven, so what happens is usually dependent on who gets to interact with him and because of what. Sometimes it's just silly stuff like "Satan wants to get a tan and grew the sun 3 times bigger. Hijinks ensures." Othertimes it's more serious stuff such as "the entity in charge of keeping the dimensional order in place is suffering from depression and now we're all screwed if we don't figure out a solution". The variety is part of the charm. The series also has a really fun and unique first-person-dungeon-crawling subseries called "Madou Monogatari" (which was originally the main series, but uh. Stuff happened and Puyo became more important), which was on a 20 year hiatus but is coming back this summer~

Anyway, I love these games DEARLY and am happy for any newcomers who decide to try and check it out~!

Terri Pines

Yup, I made a Gravity Falls oc.

Teresa Ann "Terri" Pines (Née Ross) was born on February 14th, 1954 to Virginia and Howard Ross in Newark, New Jersey. She was the middle child and only girl of five children (Her brothers are Warren, Clarence, Leroy, and Seymour).

She was a pageant girl, her family lived pretty much solely off of the prize money she won.

She went to school for cosmetology in '72 (Her parents were not thrilled, they expected her to find a rich bachelor instead) and graduated in 1973 (Apparently, cosmetology school programs are pretty short!) . The money she earned doing what she loved wasn't good enough for her family and so she left home in 1974.

She drifted around, using her looks and charms to steal and con people, and met Stanley Pines in 1980. He was getting hassled by the police and she was like "Guess I'll use up my one good deed for the year" and helped out by pretending to be his wife ("Oh, honey, I've been looking for you everywhere! Sorry 'bout that, officer-"), and he evaded arrest.

Seeing her con artist ways and good looks, Stan was convinced that this was his dream woman- He tried to woo her for a bit, but she wasn't interested.

Because she's gay.

Even so, the convenience of having somebody that you can pretend is your partner worked for both of them, so they just went with it and slummed around the U.S., cartels and scams galore, what a wild ride.

Stuff went downhill, they were out of money and cons, when they were contacted by Stanford Pines.

You know the story from here.

Terri was kinda just waiting in the car when the portal incident happened, Stan came outside looking like he wanted to vomit and explained (through a very shaky voice) what happened.

They hid out in the house before running out of food, yada yada, Lazy Susan's eye is zapped, Stan takes Ford's name, fakes his death, you know what happens. Terri knows about the portal and all of Stan's secrets, she's his confidant and best friend.

In 1985, Stan and Terri got married. Partially because of the tax benefits, partially because they wanted the money and gifts that came with a wedding (Also, marital law says you can't be forced to testify against your spouse. Convenient!). Caryn Pines came to the wedding but Filbrick didn't (Fuck you, Filbrick). Terri's family also came but left pretty fast when they didn't get a hand out.

In 2013, Dipper and Mabel came to Gravity Falls. Terri is their Grauntie, she loves those kids. She also takes a motherly role towards Wendy, despite being pretty different in personality.

Terri is very similar to Stan, rough around the edges and always looking to make a buck, this is why he thought he was in love with her lol. She is a beauty queen, her pageant roots and love for cosmetology has always influenced her significantly. She is desperately trying to stall the effects of age (Hard to do that since she's 60 during the show), hence the spray tan and makeup and the hair dye. She also wears a corset (ooh la la!) and likes to join in on makeovers with Mabel and her friends.

She's also pretty badass- She has a lipstick taser and packs a mean punch. Being on the streets for so long has left her rugged and a bit grizzled and we love her for it.

A very motherly lady, she always wanted children of her own but the time was never right (Stan wouldn't mind being a donor, so long as he gets to skip out on any child support-). Wendy and the mystery twins fill that gap, she gets to mother them to her hearts content.

I will write up some unique episodes that center on her eventually, but it's 1 am rn and I need to get this done-

In Roadside Attraction, Terri flirts with Darlene alongside Stan. She's chill when Darlene only responds to Stan, she's a good wingwoman. It's also implied at some point that she went out with Lazy Susan before.

She was arrested alongside Stan in Not What He Seems, and escaped alongside him, also trying to stop Mabel from pressing the button.

Okay now here is where I deviate from canon pretty majorly-

So, I guess you'd say that Terri's whole existence in itself is an au. At first glance, the only difference would be her being there and extra interactions. That'd be wrong-

I know that the tweet about Ford being transfem was fake, but I still really love the headcanon. I headcanon Dipper as being transmasc and Ford being transfem would further the parallels between them without just making them a copy of each other.

So yeah, Ford is transfem here. She discovered it in the portal ("The author of the journals...my...sister??"). She chooses the name Nicole, after Nikola Tesla.

Back to Terri and how she changes the series!!

Mabel and Dipper are pretty shocked that she knew everything, they're definitely mad as well. This is also the reveal that Stan and Terri are only really married for legal reasons.

Here's that reveal, written out:

Stan: -and then me and Terri got married. But we're just friends with benefits.

Dipper and Mabel: *Disgust*

Terri: What? The tax benefits! Duh!

Nicole addresses her briefly but the rest of the episode pretty much goes on as normal except for the ending, Nicole and Stan would both mention her.

"Okay, Stanley, here's the deal. You and Terri can stay here for the summer to watch the kids. I'll stay down in the basement and try to contain any remaining damage. But when the summer's over, you give me my house back, you give me my name back, your wife and I divorce, and this Mystery Shack junk is over forever. You got it?"

"You really aren't gonna thank me, are you? Fine. On one condition: you stay away from the kids and Terri; I don't want them in danger. Cause as far as I'm concerned, they're the only family I have left."

Well, Nicole didn't listen because she and Terri get together (I call it "Terrole" hehe). I don't have their whole romance written out, but Nicole has no clue how to date and tries to woo her with stuff she learned in other dimensions. Hilarity and cuteness ensues. And hey, legally Terri is married to Nicole anyways, so it would work out in the end! Yeah, Stan isn't a fan of all this-

Weirdmageddon goes down, she hides in the Mystery Shack with Stan. She's pretty damn worried about Nicole. She's part of the zodiac, her symbol is lipstick. Blah blah blah, she gets turned into tapestry like the others and then everything goes on as usual. She joins Stan and Nicole in their adventures.

Boy that took ages to write. It was fun though! And I hope you guys like Terri as much as I do!

Probably the next time we have a Pacifica arc! Pacifica's mother was a pageant queen, married rich as a trophy wife, and has taught her daughter that looks are everything and she's doomed to a life of misery if she isn't beautiful. Lazy Susan is literally everything Pacifica was taught to dread becoming: a fat old unmarried waitress with a facial disfigurement who can't do makeup well and lives with six cats. Inside Pacifica's head, that's not just the Worst Fate Ever, it's such an over-the-top exaggerated parody of the Worst Fate Ever that she didn't think anybody lived like that.

But outside of Pacifica's head, Lazy Susan is just a totally normal lady, content with her job and her cats and her life, singlehandedly keeping the local diner running due to an overwhelming itch to fix and tidy things that are out of order, giving away free treats to her favorite customers, and making weird jokes.

She's not a pity story, she's not a "somehow... in spite of her looks... she finds a way to go on with life... so brave..." story, she's just. Some lady. Doing fine. Perfectly cheerful. Well-liked by everyone who knows her. She trained Pacifica as a waitress and taught her about the regulars' preferences. She thinks everything Pacifica's parents taught her about looks and money and marriage is "silly."

She's the first normal well-adjusted female role model Pacifica's ever had. That's gonna be very valuable.

Also, depending on how things go, Lazy Susan might meet Slender Man. Still working on that plotline.

Anyway, once Bill is allowed to go places, Lazy Susan's gonna be tickled to see another gal in town who can only use one eye. It's not a lot, but it's something to relate over. (Bill will not be pointing out that last year she called him weird for having one eye.)

DM BLONDE AMBITIONS Is everybody beneath Debra McMichael?

How many of us are Melrose Place fans? Heather Locklear, one of the stars of the show, portrays Amanda Woodward–the beautiful but dangerous blonde who has schemed and connived her way to the top. Several seasons ago, Amanda purchased the apartment complex Melrose Place and found it an unlimited source of lovers, enemies and potential clients for her advertising business. Amanda is extremely demanding and when anyone crosses her there’s hell to pay. 

Maybe the producers of the series were thinking of Debra McMichael when they created the character of Amanda Woodward. 

A native of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Debra grew up with three brothers and a sister in what she calls an average family. Her mother was a nurse and her father worked in a foundry and in her free time the high school cheerleader liked to ride horses on their 10-acre spread. But she dreamed of a career in television and movies. 

“Growing up, my parents were very protective, and they didn’t even want me to become a cheerleader,” Debra revealed on a telephone interview. “But I snuck out and did it anyway, and there wasn’t much they could do about itt. From there, I got involved in beauty pageants because I thought it would be fun to dress up in beautiful gowns.”

Debra went on to become Miss Illinois America and Miss Texas USA. In 1985 while on a Chicago flight Debra met the mother of her future husband, then-Chicago Bears football star Steve McMichael. After meeting on a blind date, the two hit it off and eventually married. It must have been like winning the lottery for the Southern belle. In her own words, their lifestyle was like “the Super Bowl every year.” Money May not buy happiness, but it certainly helped Debra open a few doors. 

The beauty made certain that wherever Steve went, she was a star as well. As a result of their marriage, Debra was featured on ESPN and HBO, numerous sports talk  programs and Oprah Winfrey’s show on two occasions. In addition, Debra appeared in half a dozen television commercials, two of country singing star George Strait’s music videos and landed roles in films such as Texas Chainsaw Massacre IV.

“My second appearance on Oprah was the best,” Debra recalls. “The topic was ‘How do you handle your mate being a sex symbol.’ Well, Steve was the NFL star, but I was the one who was the sex symbol on the show.” 

When Steve entered World Championship Wrestling, it wasn’t long before Debra accompanied him. The woman who came from Tuscaloosa with the dream of making it in show business must have fallen in love with the bright lights and the big city. After all, she was turning more heads than her husband. 

In the South is where Debra also first met Jeff Jarrett. Without much hesitation, McMichael quickly cast aside her husband for a successful business relationship with Jarrett. Her marriage to Steve deteriorated and they soon divorced. Debra followed her protege to the World Wrestling Federation within a year. 

After debuting on RAW, McMichael quickly asserted her power. Proving she was adobe the gyrations of Val Venis when she resisted his advances–something other “ladies” would jump at–Debra turned the table and played Val! While the former beauty queen pretended to be interested in him, Venus left himself wide open to an attack by Jarrett. Other women superstars are no threat to Debra either. After Terri Runnels confronted McMichael over what she had done, the business woman simply shrugged it off like a fly. Once McMichael gets a reaction out of someone–male or female–they’re little more than pawns in her game. In the big picture, the beauty knows that all who cross her will have to pay a price down the road. 

Jarrett’s recent battle with Al Snow is another example of how Debra combines intelligence and beauty. After learning that Head had an eye for the ladies–and Debra in particular–McMichael did everything to take advantage of the situation. Soon Head was completely out of the fight, thanks to a shrewd strategy and her provocative attire. Debra knows what men want and using that to her advantage is just one of her many skills. 

McMichael is equally clever in her business dealings. According to sources, proper to signing a contract with the Federation Debra made it clear that she would be the only one controlling her business dealings. Thanks to her connections in both entertainment and business, she seems to have dirt on anyone who dares to challenge her. But one wonders what might happen if this beauty queen ever hinges for more. Would she cast aside Jarrett, like her former husband, to further her own career?

After all, Amanda has no problem deceiving her long-time clients for the prospect of power and wealth on Melrose Place. Why would Debra do Otherwise?

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

Debra McMichael debuted alongside long-time client Jeff Jarrett on the October 19 RAW from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. During Harrett’s bout with Steve Blackman, Al Snow attempted to attack the former Intercontinental Champion, but McMichael served as a beautiful distraction! With Snow and Head completely out of the fight, Debra’s protege was free to lay Al out with his guitar!

On the November 1 Sunday Night HEAT from Austin, Texas, the former beauty pageant winner turned the tables on Val Venis–feigning interest in the adult film star’s gyrations, but actually leaving him wide open to an attack by Jarrett! When Terri Runnels confronted Debra about her actions, the business woman could not have cared less about what Terri had to say! This beauty uses everyone, male and female, to get what she wants! Debra once again showed her lethal mix of brains and beauty on the November 9 RAW from Dallas, Texas during Al Snow’s match. Originally slated to be Snow vs. Tiger Ali, The rich Indian offered up Babu as Al’s opponent instead! During the bout, McMichael appeared at ringside and held Head in her arms, playing up to “their” interest in  beautiful women. Once again, with Head out of the match, Tiger Ali took advantage of the situation, sneaking back into the ring and scoring the win over the J.O.B. Squad leader.

Ok ok ok I came across one of your older posts about Odette, where you mentioned that she had tomboyish traits and hobbies considered traditionally masculine and then she's a prim and proper lady. And that she must have been educated that way. And i fully agree but it also awakened a rant I've been thinking about for YEARS and given what you wrote i thought you may agree.

Because Derek being a terrible boyfriend has been discussed to death, correct. But can we please talk about their PARENTS? Both of them!

These two arranged a marriage when one was a toddler and the other a literal newborn. Not only without input from their children, but as the years pass, very obviously against what they want. They talk about their own children like a business transaction MULTIPLE times ('parenting and politics' referring to the wedding as a 'merger' and so on. In the Spanish version, which is the one I watched as a child, Uberta goes as far as calling it 'a wedding and a transaction'). They keep writing to each other about forcing their children to get married. Everyone and their dog could see Odette and Derek didn't want it, see chorus going 'the only point in which they didn't disagree was that the very thought of summertime was dreaded', but William and Uberta don't care. It's pretty obvious to me that William did indeed 'educate' those traits and hobbies out of Odette, and then jumps on the bandwagon of asshole toxic masculinity even further by scolding his daughter about the whole 'you're beautiful' incident with a truly callous 'what else did you want Derek to say to you?'

Uberta is passive-agressive and manipulative to a fault, and at times a downright liar, like with the whole beauty pageant and trying to trap Derek with another bride. When her son publicly offends Odette and she leaves, the only thing she bemoans is 'so many years of planning, wasted!' so she evidently also doesn't give a shit about Odette as a human being. She doesn't mourn William, who was supposedly her friend, and is annoyed and or dismissive about the ONE thing Derek is doing right, which is looking for Odette until he finds her or her body, and trying to figure out who or what killed William and his men, in so many instances i can't even quote them all. ('yes, yes, the fat animal or whatever') and insisting Derek will stop his own mourning and search (again, the ONE thing he does right) as soon as a sufficiently beautiful potential bride is put in front of him.

No bloody wonder Derek turned out like he did with role models like that! I'm surprised Odette didn't!

(also can we talk about the impressively alarming implications of Odette claiming 'I've got bruises with their fingerprints' while her father is bodily dragging her toward the carriage?!)

So, as a kid and a teen, I kinda just judged everyone in this movie; Odette and Derek for only falling in love when their hormones deemed each other a fine piece of ass, and William and Uberta for forcing this marriage on their children who fought against it their entire lives and then had the AUDACITY to get mad when it "didn't work out" in their favor.

Speaking of, why the hell didn't THEY get married??? Odette's mother and Derek's father are NEVER even mentioned, why didn't William and Uberta just get married? They'd get what they wanted, but I GUESS you could argue that their fellow reign wouldn't last long and they wouldn't be able to make an heir, but even then they would still have Derek and Odette and, given the time, Derek would probably become king and marry some woman and make her queen and Odette would be... I don't know, a princess?

Either way, William and Uberta could have gotten married and they would have gotten what they wanted anyway, but movie's gotta movie I guess.

I do think both Uberta and William love their children, they are just... way too far into their own goals and dreams and are forcing those on their children. I think Uberta is a little better, because even she was horrified when Derek couldn't think of anything to say about Odette except she was beautiful. You could argue she was horrified that he was ruining the potential marriage, but I'd like to think she's at the very least aware that the outcome was HER son's fault, and not Odette's.

William does try to understand Odette when they're on the carriage on their way home, but - and this is gonna sound sexist - he's a stupid man and doesn't see why being called beautiful isn't enough x'D

Sidenote: One of my favorite lines in any cartoon ever is Rogers saying: "You should write a book; how to offend women in five syllables or less." Also, when Derek loses the queen in chess and he says: "That's twice in one day." The movie is horrendously flawed, but damn does it has some funny lines every now and then xD

And yes, Odette was 100% "designed" to be a proper lady so she could become more likeable to Derek and be what society deemed a good woman. I like that the only hobby we really see her have once she's grown a bit is that she reads, but... that book could be anything. Let's say it's one she's reading for fun though; then that begs the question WHY is reading the hobby she latches onto as a teenager?

A lot of people who loves to read (I'm one of them) say that one of the reasons they love reading books is that they can transport you somewhere else and forget your own worries for a while. I could see that being Odette's reason for reading. Not only is it "calm" and not too tomboyish, but it also gives her an escape from reality. Kinda like Belle, we all know she needed an escape badly as well.

Reading though, also, wasn't considered ladylike. Or rather, why would a woman need to read? Why would she have to be intelligent? That wasn't what a woman's purpose was! So I think you could argue that MAYBE William allowed this one hobby as it was something that could be "hidden". Meaning, let's say she climbed a lot of trees as a kid. We see her running around and fighting a lot, but this would not only make her seem unladylike, it would also be a visual bother. Reading, despite it being "a waste of time", does not make her look less beautiful and composed. It's not a downright bad thing that she's reading, it's just useless for William's plans for his daughter.

Mrs Cazalet⁵ always ‘bobs’ to him and refers to him as ‘Prince Algy’. I fancy he does not mind. But then of course we all know the story of how she ‘bobbed’ to the telephone on hearing a royal voice. The Athlones and the Cazalets are old, devoted friends. It is extraordinary Mrs C’s flair for royalty. Even the WC[s] are hung with the Queen’s photographs. On the Monday there was a pageant with 3,000 people looking on. It was opened by the Princess Alice, who enjoyed the three hours watching it in spite of the drizzle which threatened to ruin our costumes. The gardens were an excellent setting. I was Charles II, complete except for the spaniels, and I was much the most applauded. I looked as rakish and as imperious as possible . . . . Lady Irene Curzon⁶ was a corpulent Henrietta Maria. Baba Curzon and Lady Mary Thynne⁷ because of their great beauty were let off with selling programmes to the gaping proletariat.

Raquel Welch was born Jo Raquel Tejada in Chicago, Illinois. Her father was from Bolivia, and her mother was of English descent.  As a young actress, her first role was playing a call girl in 1964′s A House is Not a Home starring Shelley WInters, Robert Taylor, and Cesar Romero. Her first TV appearance aired that same year. 

During the 1960s, Welch soared to international fame as a sex symbol and pin-up model, disproving the popular opinion that only blondes could be sex symbols.

Although she never acted opposite Lucille Ball, her name did make its way into her sitcoms.  Welch was first mentioned in “Lucy Visits Jack Benny” (1968). Tom displays an extremely sarcastic, mischievous and cocky attitude, and frequently attempts to secure favors from local contractors. Tom has demonstrated his talent and passion for entrepreneurship in many occasions, including Entertainment 720, Rent-A-Swag, and Tom’s Bistro.

Though it is not explicitly said, it’s assumed Tom worked at Lady Foot Locker, where his best friend Jean-Ralphio Saperstein has a job too (“Woman of the Year”). He later opens up his own luxurious clothing-rental store for growing teens, Rent-A-Swag, and employs Jean-Ralphio’s sister Mona Lisa Saperstein. Tom married his Canadian-born college friend Wendy to secure her U.S. citizenship (a green card marriage). Despite the marriage, Tom aggressively flirts with other women, which has prompted confusion from people unfamiliar with his arrangement with Wendy. He is constantly pursuing women even during his marriage, as far as going to strip clubs, hitting on Ann Perkins, distributing copies of his house keys to beautiful women, and judging at the Miss Pawnee pageant.

Tom’s heroes include Tiger Woods, Vin Diesel, Michael Bolton, Flo Rida, Patrick Jane, Paul Walker, and Jamie Foxx. He has a very high image of himself and brags that people view him as a “Brown Superman with a Beard” and has also asked to be introduced as “The Brown Gosling”. He is very appreciative of pop culture and the idea of “swag”, very often expressed in his vernacular (e.g. saying “‘Serts” instead of “desserts” in the episode “Soulmates”). Tom often teams with April Ludgate and sometimes Donna Meagle to prank and harass Gerry Gergich. He also finds Ben Wyatt an easy target of tease.

How he’s like me:

We both are hyper-focused on our interests (like my fan fictions and his businesses), and talk about them often.

How he is NOT like me:

I can sometimes listen and be part of a conversation on other peoples’ interests. He is really bad at this and often tunes out conversations that don’t interest him. Sometimes, I do this, but not as often as I used to.

Being diagnosed with autism comes with “impairments in social interaction”- this means it is difficult for you to balance a hyper fixation on your interests

It isn’t always easy for you to turn off your interests and tune into other things people like to talk about

Sometimes it can be difficult for others to understand that you are still in the process of turning off your fan fiction interest while engaging in conversations with others

          This takes time because, in addition to resisting the urge to talk about fan fictions, you are still training your brain to not tune out the things other people talk about. 

Taking baby steps means that with practice, over time you will work on contributing more to conversations as you progress with turning off your fan fiction interest

As Tom continues to work in the Parks Department, he develops more of an interest in the business aspects that go on

He starts to learn that his current job will bring him connections and skills that are necessary to maintain a successful business he hopes to have in the future

          i.e. I want to embrace where I currently am if I want to get to where I would like to be

Tom gets overly excited because he is an idea man, so his brain is always coming up with ideas

He does take initiative to make them happen, as ridiculous as some of them may be EXAMPLE: fluoride water

His skills come in handy when the Parks department needs creative advertising and out of the box ideas.  Once this side of him is embraced more, he starts to take the job more seriously

He does try to hide his emotions at times (he liked Wendy and was jealous when she wanted to date Ron and was sad about their divorce)
