The Human Torch - it exists. after origin story, settling into the standard superhero routine of fighting villains. this era loves car racing.

The Angel - this guy straight up has no idea what hes doing. hes just fighting people and figuring out whats going on afterwards

Submariner - Namors kind of just a dick??? his design seems really hermes inspired tho so that cool

Masked Raider - idk if westerns were new and interesting at the time but i cannot get into it. the plotline would be interesting as a modern crime show tho, with the whole undercover infiltration plotline

American Ace - this feels like very on the nose social commentary

Death Bird Squadron - The Angel in short story format fights nazis

Adventures of Ka Zar the Great - man negotiates a hostage situation between an ape and a lion. the entire thing is his own fault.

We get a little scene where the other residents meet up and argue about whether to give up and sell or not, and then it doesn’t matter because the Masked Raider is here and kills one of Brunder’s men.

NOIV! I wasn’t expecting him to go to the sheriff. I also haven’t mentioned this, but there are a bunch of misspellings. I assume they are intentional, to indicate accent, but I don’t think that making “you’re masked” into “yore masked” really communicates accent well. It’s one of those things I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt on for age, since I probably wouldn’t have minded “yer masked” in the same way.

I swear I wrote that before seeing that the page ends with someone yelling “Yer masked!”

Anyway, it feels like something is missing, since I don’t think Slick was there before when he knocked those two out.

Then there’s a quick melee between the townsfolk and the baddies, and by quick I mean one panel, Brunder runs for it, and the Masked Raider kills him.

This one was fucking terrible. I’m not a fan of westerns in general, but this one feels like the superhero elements only make it worse. The most egregious element is probably that the mask is completely irrelevant. He could have done all this as Jim! Sure, he’s technically on the lam, but I think that once the guy who accused him starts having people killed, the Sheriff would see his side of the story. 

You might have noticed my posts here were longer, that’s because I wanted to get through this one faster.
