What's the difference between a nurse and nurse practitioner?
They are two different "levels" in the nursing hierarchy.
Here's how that hierarchy works in the USA:
At the very beginning rung you have STNAs, or State Tested Nursing Assistants. STNAs have taken a class that lasts in the weeks-months range of time and received a certificate. They have then taken a test to prove that they understand the material. In a job context, STNAs do a lot of the direct patient care- they bathe and feed patients, take vitals, turn patients who cannot move for themselves, etc...
The next rung up is an LPN, or Licensed Practical Nurse. LPNs have gone to a nursing program lasting usually between 1 and 2 years, have received a diploma, and have taken a test called the NCLEX-PN. In a job context, LPNs can do everything an STNA can do, plus they can gather information about a patient's condition, pass medications (except some IV medications) and do many nursing interventions like wound care, placing IVs and catheters, etc... An LPN must work under the license of an RN.
The next rung up is an RN, or Registered Nurse. RNs have either an associates' degree (2-3 years) or a bachelor's degree (4 years) in nursing, which has allowed them to sit for a test called the NCLEX-RN. No matter which education route the nurse takes to get their RN the license is the same and they are allowed to do the same things in a clinical context. In a job context, an RN can do everything an LPN can do, but can give all medications (including IV) and are allowed to also make care decisions LPNs cannot. They also hold an independent license, meaning they can provide nursing level care without needing to be supervised by a higher license-holder.
The next maybe half rung up is a Certified Registered Nurse. These are nurses who have worked in a particular area of nursing (med-surg, psych, ICU, etc...) for a certain number of years and taken classes and a test to say they know a lot about that area of nursing. Now, unlike the nursing license itself, this certification is usually through a private organization instead of the state of practice. Certified Registered Nurses don't have any additional skills they can do, but they do act as a resource for other nurses and may get paid more depending on the organization they work for.
The next rung up is an APRN, or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. An APRN is a nurse who has a masters degree or higher in nursing, and who, again, has taken a test. Here is where things get complicated. Because 4 different licenses fall under APRN:
Nurse Practitioner (NP). An NP is an APRN who works under a physician's license in some states and hold independent licenses in others. They are able to do a lot of things that doctors can do, including diagnose, treat, and prescribe (what they are able to prescribe depends on the state they are in). NPs specialize in a specific patient population, and they can only work with the type of patient they have specialized in.
Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS). A CNS is an APRN who acts as a consulting nurse. Basically, they have gotten specific education in a specific area of nursing for a specific population, and they consult with the multidisciplinary team, generally at a hospital, about the nursing care for that type of patient. CNSs typically cannot prescribe medications, but may prescribe nursing interventions.
Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). A CRNA is an APRN who works as an extension of an anesthesiologist. They provide anesthesia during surgery and procedures.
Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM). A CNM is an APRN who delivers babies and helps mothers and children through the entire maternity and birth process. They may also do things like women's health exams, nutritional counseling, and the like.

Here are my headcanons for the Bugsnax cast's academic qualifications!
I want to be extremely clear that I'm treating this as purely character history stuff, not some kind of measure of worth or intelligence. I know some people treat academic qualifications that way, but that's stupid and I hate it. This stuff is based more on opportunity and interest. And what would have to be true for the characters to be in the positions they're in in the game.
I'm using US definitions, and not going into vocational stuff, which is why I keep saying academic. Vocational is kind of its own tier of things that's hard to throw into a table with the academic stuff. Also, vocational qualifications in the US don't seem to be standardised, so it's hard to compare them to each other. Chandlo is totally a licensed carpenter, though.
Rambly elaborations! (How tired was I when I originally wrote these wow)
I swear Gramble's presence in the some high school section isn't about his comedy (?) Appalachian accent. It's because he didn't have parents, so he had to prioritise food and shelter over finishing his schoolwork. If he "wound up raising himself", like the instruction booklet says, he wouldn't have got a lot of support academically. Also, I headcanon that he has ADHD (among other characters), so throw that one on the pile too. But he will probably get a GED once he gets around to it. That stands for Grumpus Education Diploma.
Lizbert dropping out of high school (for a life of adventure) is from the Reddit AMA, and also I like it. She seems big into forging her own path. Also, if her comedy Australian accent is meant to imply that she's Grumpus Australian, it's way less stigmatised in Australia to not finish year 12 than it seems to be in the US. Not saying it's not stigmatised at all, but it seems like leaving school early isn't even treated as a viable option in the US? That's why I was so defensive about Gramble just now.
More down here --v
Wambus wanted to work at the family farm as a career, and was already getting training on that, so he didn't see the point of doing further education. Also, he's from a culture that doesn't really see college as the default path after high school. I think that's one of the things the instruction booklet was implying with the line about how he's "the type who's spent his whole life within a mile of where he was born."
Cromdo went to college to study business administration, but had to drop out due to various family emergencies, and could never afford to go back. That seems like about his luck. I blame Grumpus Reagan (I hope there's no Grumpus Reagan).
Speaking of college being the default after high school, Filbo went to college because that's what you do, but couldn't keep up, and dropped out and returned home within a year. I hope he at least went to some good parties in that time. …Wait, isn't he childhood friends with Lizbert? Is he Grumpus Australian?
I'm not a hundred percent sure what a liberal arts degree is, but I bet Beffica has one. Maybe she majored in photography. Or sociology. I'm going to say sociology.
I headcanon that Chandlo and Snorpy went to the same college for undergrad, and were roommates the whole time. Platonic roommates, because they were still in the "if only you could just date your best friend wouldn't that be simpler hahaha" stage. Chandlo's degree is in kinesiology, probably.
Clumby has a diploma in her office from the School of Journalism at New Grump City College, which you can see at the start of the game. But it doesn't mention what qualification she graduated with. It could be a Bachelor's or Master's, but the advanced degree section has a strict one Snakolyte limit, and Jamfoot was funnier. Actually, it seemed excessive to give an advanced degree to six out of sixteen characters.
Wiggle probably went to one of those performing arts high schools I keep hearing about. And then to one of those performing arts colleges. She had a hard time deciding between dance and music, but ended up settling on music because she thought she'd reach a bigger audience that way. You can't do fashion design at those types of schools, I don't think, or that would've come third.
You tend to need a degree in journalism before you can find work in it, so I think the Journalist probably got one. They did a year of art school first, but concluded that drawing was something they'd be happier doing as a hobby than for a living. So they switched to their other passion. That's my headcanon for why the quest art is so good, if they're supposed to be the one who drew it in-universe.
Jamfoot canonically has a degree in library science, but he doesn't say what kind. In the US, most degrees in library science are Master's, so he might not have needed to specify. And a Master's in Library Science is extremely a part-time barista qualification. Because it's hard to get a job in the actual field. As mentioned in his interview.
Eggabell has the most specific canon qualifications in the game. She has an MD, with a specialisation in endocrinology. Did you know that Doctor of Medicine is a graduate degree in the US, not a research degree? I didn't, until I was researching this chart a while back when I had insomnia. I was wondering why all these American doctors also had PhDs. I may not be the quickest on the uptake.
I went back and forth on whether Floofty would have a Master's or a PhD, but I think if they could refer to themself a doctor, they definitely would, as often as possible. Maybe they couldn't get into a program after all that slander they mentioned. Or they were in one but got kicked out. Or they're just still working on it. Anyway, I think they have a Master's in molecular biology.
Shelda has an advanced degree here partly because I think it would really annoy Floofty, but also, it seems like something she'd be interested in persuing. Like, a Master's in herbal science or something. I don't know if it would licence her to practice medicine, though, if she wanted to expand the range of herb-related stuff she had access to. Maybe a Doctor of Naturopathy instead? Naturopaths actually can be licensed as physicians in about half the US, and the stuff Shelda talks about is so broad that it wasn't clear she was supposed to be a herbalist specifically until the DLC.
Snorpy has a Master's in mechanical engineering from GIT. That's what I think. (Guess what the G stands for). He made something very impressive for his thesis, but I don't know if it should be related to prosthetics or not.
The instruction booklet mentions that Triffany has a doctorate from NGU (didn't make that one up!), presumably in archaeology. There's also some evidence for this in the game. She describes herself as a leader in her field, something that's difficult to be in an academic field without a PhD, and Floofty addresses her as Professor a couple of times. I know that the word professor can also refer to anyone who's teaching at a tertiary level in American English, but she's not teaching anything at the moment. She's doing field research into her dead grandma on murder parasite island. So I think they do mean she has a professorship at a university. That's something that almost always requires a PhD or equivalent.

Title: Elevating Sims' Educational Odyssey: The Master and Doctorate Degree Project
In my ongoing mission to enrich the academic tapestry within The Sims 2, I've ventured into the realm of advanced studies, aiming to redefine the post-college experience for our Sims. Building upon my previous projects, where teens could tailor their education, this new endeavor focuses on the often-overlooked Master and Doctorate Degrees.
In contrast to the traditional schooling system, which tends to lose its luster after college, I believe that advanced degrees should be a pinnacle achievement for our accomplished Sims. After all, why should the journey end at a diploma when there's so much more knowledge to acquire?
Inspired by the complexities of real-world academia and drawing from my own experiences, the Master and Doctorate Degree project introduces a nuanced approach to post-college life. Now, Sims who have successfully navigated their undergraduate years can embark on a new scholarly adventure.
Upon completing their college education, Sims can choose to pursue a Master's or Doctorate Degree, each tailored to specific skills and academic disciplines. This postgraduate journey isn't just about accumulating knowledge; it's a strategic undertaking that influences a Sim's future in profound ways.
As Sims immerse themselves in the rigors of advanced studies, they'll encounter challenging scenarios that not only shape their academic prowess but also contribute to the development of additional skills. The ultimate goal is to reach the zenith of their academic pursuits, achieving the coveted Master's or Doctorate Degree.
Upon graduation from these advanced programs, Sims are rewarded with a substantial boost in skill points, reflecting their dedication and expertise in their chosen field. This isn't merely an academic accolade; it's a testament to the Sim's commitment to intellectual growth and mastery.
The benefits of these advanced degrees extend beyond the realm of education. Sims entering their professional careers armed with the knowledge and skills acquired during their Master and Doctorate pursuits gain a significant advantage. This strategic advantage not only mirrors real-world dynamics but also adds depth and realism to the virtual lives of our Sims.
While the Master and Doctorate Degree project is still a work in progress, I am thrilled about the potential to reshape the post-college narrative for our Sims. Stay tuned for further updates as this ambitious academic journey unfolds, promising a more immersive and rewarding experience for those seeking to push the boundaries of knowledge in The Sims 2 universe.

Is a Business Management Diploma Your Pathway to Career Success?
Tumblr media
Decades ago, the primary focus when starting a business was managing finances. However, today, the landscape has evolved significantly. Now, the focus extends beyond managing finances to overseeing systems and processes for efficiency, navigating diverse client relationships, leading teams to achieve collective goals, and optimizing overall business productivity. While a business leader may naturally acquire some of these skills over time, mastering management requires specialized expertise. This is why many invest their resources in management training courses.
Whether you're an aspiring, new, or seasoned manager, we will explain why investing in a Business Management Diploma  is a valuable decision today.
The Value of a Business Management Diploma

How can you nurture your management expertise?
Continuous learning and skill development are essential for managers to stay effective in their roles within an organization. Managers are frequently promoted internally or based on industry experience. So, it is not always mandatory to specialize in management. Hey hey hey
so. My brother's gf pregnant. The one I talk to. This will be his first kid and I've been having feelings about this.
So.
My youngest brother has four kids. He's in and out of jail because he has zero emotional regulation. But he's otherwise a good dad and he's a very hard worker. He has actually walked 12 or 15 miles in the snow to get to work. He works physically demanding jobs that involve various kinds of construction. He doesn't have a diploma of any sort or an G.E.D. He is the Hardworking One and this is a good quality for a man to have.
The middle child, the one whose gf is pregnant with his first child, is the Smart One. He has a G.E.D. but has not been able to complete a college degree. He is also in and out of jail. But he's having a baby and isn't that wonderful? And it is, I'm happy for him. But the family has our entire lives labelled middle child The Smart One. Smarter than me, more talented despite not having any hobbies or arguably any talents. The Smartest person Granddaddy has ever met, somehow (the smartest person he's ever met is actually my mom).
Ok. So The First Born Male is the Smart One and The Second Born Male is the Hardworking One. They are also doing their duty to the family by procreating.
I, as the girl, am not the smart one or the hardworking one despite my master's degree, or my credit score, or my stability. And, yeah, a degree is not the greatest measure of intelligence, but it is evidence of hard work and determination. The credit score and degree together are arguably evidence of my diligence. But I can't be smart or hardworking because those are Male Traits.
I am the girl and am doing being the girl incorrectly. I am not straight, I'm committed to a trans person that I am not going to legally marry, I am not thin, I am not delicate, I don't want children, and worse I can't HAVE children. I got my uterus yanked before I could know the joys of motherhood.
So am I a disappointment? Or, because the choice to have babies was taken by own body, am I pitiable? If I had a healthy uterus I would be disappointing, but I didn't so does my family pity me? I have a good life. I have friends and hobbies and a committed partner. I have a good job and an advanced degree. Am I as important and as valuable as my brothers? Or was my value my uterus and now I'm nothing?
Typing it all out like that feels so stupid and silly. It's easy to look at all that and say well of course you're valuable.
But I am I valuable to my family?
(mom is exempt from my musings. to her I'm her artist.)

The State is reporting that Bob Jones University's suspicious granting of Ellen Weaver's grad degree is under official and increased scrutiny.
College accrediting agency steps up oversight of Bob Jones’ accelerated master’s program
BY ZAK KOESKE
UPDATED DECEMBER 07, 2022 8:01 AM
A college accrediting body has asked Bob Jones University to submit an additional report regarding the accelerated master’s degree program that Republican state Superintendent-elect Ellen Weaver completed earlier this year.
The board of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, or SACSCOC, on Tuesday asked the Greenville-based private evangelical Christian university to submit a “monitoring report,” within the next six months, spokeswoman Janea Johnson said.
The monitoring report is a form of oversight, she said, but does not constitute a sanction and does not imply any violation or deficiency by the university.
Gary Weier, BJU’s provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, declined comment on SACSCOC’s request, saying the university had not yet been apprised of the decision.
The accrediting agency’s request comes following a review of numerous complaints that alleged Bob Jones gave Weaver preferential treatment. Johnson wouldn’t specify how many complaints SACSCOC received about the school, but said they outnumbered the charges made this year against any other institution.
“This is a one-in-a-million type of circumstance,” she said of the allegations that Bob Jones afforded Weaver special treatment that allowed her to earn a master’s degree in just six months.
Weaver, who last month won a four-year term as South Carolina’s schools chief, is required by law to possess an advanced degree when she takes office in January. The South Carolina Republican Party certified her candidacy in March, pledging that she would meet the qualifications for the position by Election Day, or “as otherwise required by law.”
Weaver, who was not a student at Bob Jones when her candidacy was certified, enrolled shortly thereafter in the university’s Educational Leadership master’s program.
She announced in mid-October she’d completed the 33-credit self-paced online program, which is tailored to people pursuing leadership roles in Christian education. The university confirmed Weaver’s announcement a short time later and said she would be presented her diploma Dec. 16.
BJU ACCUSED OF FAVORITISM
Critics of Weaver’s have long alleged that Bob Jones made exceptions for the well-connected state superintendent candidate, a 2001 Bob Jones graduate, and afforded her special treatment that was not available to the general public.
Specifically, they accused Bob Jones of letting Weaver enroll in the program after the spring session registration deadline had passed, take more credits per session than was allowed and complete her capstone research project early and without adhering to its stated requirements.
Campaign donations from multiple Bob Jones employees, including the school’s director of admissions and enrollment, and President Steve Pettit’s public support of Weaver’s candidacy also fueled speculation that her degree was tainted.
The university has denied any wrongdoing.
“We would do for any student what we have done for her,” BJU chief of staff Randy Page said earlier this year.
The college accrediting body, which has fielded complaints about Weaver’s situation for much of the year, opened an investigation into the allegations in early July.
It asked Bob Jones to address the accusations of bias and provide information to support its defense, but could not compel the university to turn over documents because it lacks subpoena power.
“We may ask certain questions or ask an institution to address a particular concern that was raised,” said Johnson, SACSCOC’s spokeswoman. “But how or what they use to support their response is really up to the institution.”
Page said in October the school had complied with the commission’s requests and provided copies of its “policies, procedures and student outcomes.”
Johnson said Tuesday she could not disclose what additional information SACSCOC seeks from the university or why it asked for it. The agency’s board will review Bob Jones’ monitoring report at its June 2023 meeting and may or may not take additional action at that time.

Hi abbey!! Just saw your recent post and wanted to ask— are you in grad school :o I remember after finishing undergrad you weren’t sure what you wanted to do next so was just wondering how you decided!! :)
Hi thank you for the ask! I am not in grad school but I am completing an advanced college diploma - a one year program for people who already have a university degree or 2yr college diploma - to beef up my field skills/network. I didn’t plan this when I applied but going through it now and having small, in-person classes and a social life and a job I feel kinda like I’ve gotten a retry at what my final year of university was supposed to be like which has been really nice. It’s almost like getting closure???
I think it was the right call and I’m really enjoying it so far, though the more I get reabsorbed into school the less I want to pursue an actual master’s degree ‘:)
if anyone has any other questions about going university -> college please ask!
