Are Women the New Dominant Sex?
Investigating the Impact of Feminism on Masculine
Roles and Identity Lauren Boothby
Women are becoming the new dominant sex. Pursuing feminist equality reform results in a trend toward extremes. The trajectory of women’s rights needs to be examined in light of its causal effects on men. The decline of Western patriarchy ironically leads to the progression of matriarchy. This is being achieved through women’s educational advancements, feminist ideological dominance in political and academic discourse, and defamation of men to the benefit of women. This essay is based around these ideas, and more specifically on the following assertions:
I will argue that the end goal of feminism is not equality: it is matriarchy. Women have stepped into the power vacuum created by removing men from positions of privilege, and are now in the process of achieving ideological dominance through victim status. Attempts at creating equality for women lead to inequalities for men who become the weaker sex. Domination is perpetuated by media portrayals of idiotic men which justifies masculine oppression. Oppression is socially approved by politically correct feminist agenda. As a result, men experience identity crises when old masculinities are destroyed, but no socially and politically acceptable alternatives are provided. Men and women should work together, not against each other, to establish true equality. The contributions of both sexes need to be seen as valuable and beneficial to society.
From Oppressed to Oppressor
The beginning of the end of the Western male-dominated era is perhaps most apparent in job losses in previously male-dominated sectors. Postmodern society has shifted away from manufacturing and factory jobs created during the modern and industrial periods. These sectors were hard-hit in the recession of the late 2000s, and a large majority of the six million cutbacks were men (Rosin, 2010). The recession revealed an economic pattern in creation for decades (Rosin, 2010). Male trade jobs are being phased out (Rosin, 2010). On the other hand, careers that are projected to grow in the next ten years are sectors dominated primarily by women (Rosin, 2010). These jobs are not necessarily the most sought-after, but this trend suggests that men who previously earned a living in one sector, now do not possess the marketable skills necessary for available jobs.
Sociologist Kathryn Edin argues that matriarchies are replacing patriarchies (Rosin, 2010). In her interview for The Atlantic, she states that the power of the Western male was destroyed in the 1990s recession (Rosin, 2010). Men have no social power; it is now in the hands of women (Rosin, 2010). Additionally, the historical desire for sons is being replaced with a desire for daughters in much of America, and even South Korea (Rosin, 2010).
Data from a Statistics Canada report (2012) showed that Canadian women earn more undergraduate and master’s degrees than men, and the disparity has been increasing since 1992. While both men and women are earning more degrees than in the past, the growing number of educated women is symptomatic of a power transition in society. In both the lower and middle classes, women are dominant. At the present time, the majority of politicians and high-ranking business officials continue to be men, but the number of women is increasing. In the lower and middle classes, however, it is clear that the result of feminism is not equality. Where feminism has taken the greatest hold, women have replaced men as the dominant sex. First attempts at equality have overreaching effects where men become the ones that are socially disadvantaged.
The Idiot Man
Popular media reflects these trends. Several sitcoms, whether intentionally or satirically, reinforce cultural stereotypes that devalue masculinity. Intellectually inferior men plague television sitcoms. The idiot man generally holds all or most of the following characteristics. He has a low I.Q., is a borderline alcoholic, and an avid sports lover. He is sexist, clumsy, physically useless, socially awkward, an uninvolved father, and a sincere idiot. Where the idiot man lacks intelligence and general domestic and social usefulness, his wife satisfies the deficit. The intelligent woman has specific characteristics in stark contrast to the idiot man. She has a high I.Q. and is educated. She is either a housewife, or she works part-time while simultaneously managing her home. Additionally, she has high social intelligence, engages with her children, and is brilliant when compared to her husband.
While I acknowledge that the wives discussed below are far from ideal portrayals of women, these issues are beyond the scope of this paper. The present essay examines the neglected stereotype of intellectually inferior men in relation to their female counterparts, and I have chosen three recent, popular sitcoms that display this negative male stereotype.
Home Improvement was the first television show I considered. Tim Allen’s character is amusing, although quite stupid. If the reader performs but a quick video search of virtually any episode of this show, she should not be surprised to find an instance of Tim playing a fool. His character is inept at correctly performing virtually any task without failing miserably. He is clumsy, arrogant, and sexist. Tim’s wife Jill works in addition to performing most of the housework. She often speaks to Tim in a condescending manner and displays her superior intelligence when she corrects his foolish mistakes. In one of the later seasons, Jill leaves her job to pursue a Master’s degree in psychology. Tim is the primary breadwinner, but he exemplifies all the characteristics of the idiot man. Jill juggles home and work responsibilities, has good social skills, and is tolerant of Tim’s idiocy and blatant sexism. While I acknowledge she is not devoid of female stereotypes, she exemplifies the intelligent woman character, and overall she displays superior intelligence in both practical and academic matters. Any sexism on Tim’s behalf is understood by the audience to be unjustified.
Family Guy and The Simpsons are two animated television programs presently airing. The husbands in both series – Peter Griffin and Homer Simpson, respectively – exemplify the idiot man character. Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin share the following endearing qualities; they are: middle-aged, fat, borderline alcoholics, blue-collar workers, stupid, violent, often sexist, clumsy, childish, naïve, generally terrible fathers, and absolutely hilarious idiots. Marge Simpson is a housewife, and although not always a moral compass, she is generally the voice of reason among chaos. Homer’s daughter Lisa Simpson is by far the most intelligent member of the family. She demonstrates competence in the areas Marge neglects. In this series, Homer is the idiot man, and together Marge and Lisa play the character of the intelligent woman. Lois Griffin has less moral integrity than the Simpsons women. Her character is far from the image of an ‘ideal’ wife and mother, as she cheats on her husband, is often emotionally unavailable, but is importantly far more intelligent than her husband Peter. This interestingly defies normative stereotypes of women and housewives, but establishes Lois’ intelligence as one of her consistent qualities. Therefore, although neither portrayal is wholly flattering to women, Lois Griffin is consistently portrayed as the intelligent woman with Peter, her incompetent husband, playing the idiot man.
This section included three examples of popular television programs that demonstrate negative male stereotypes. While I do not deny the presence of irony and sexist undertones toward women, the prevalence of idiotic male characters demands attention. As women have begun to attain positions of power, many sitcoms contrast the high intelligence of women with the idiocy of men. In each of these programs, women are justified in believing men to be sexist pigs and fools that are hopeless without their brilliant wives.
New Masculinity
Feminist movements have created new work and social opportunities for women. When women joined the workforce and increased their education, normative social roles were destroyed, and new acceptable roles created. Western women are no longer confined to the home, and it is now acceptable to be a highly educated career woman with or without children, married or unmarried. Many men are supportive of women’s achievements, including those of their girlfriends, wives, daughters, sisters, and friends. This change in women’s roles constitutes an enormous social shift that is not without an effect on men. Feminism clearly defined new roles available to women, but fails to address roles for men. The subversion of ‘traditional’ gender roles altered the nuclear family structure. The men who previously benefited from this arrangement now ask themselves, “What is my role?” No comprehensive answer is given. The changing nature of masculine roles is in need of further sociological examination.

New Moon at 11º Virgo
September 2nd, 2024
The New Moon in Virgo at 11º represents a moment of recalibration and practical intention setting. Virgo is the sign of service, health, and refinement—an energy that calls for precise planning, attention to detail, and organizing aspects of our lives to function more smoothly. The New Moon’s opposition to Saturn retrograde in Pisces, however, creates a dynamic tension between structure and fluidity, order and chaos, practicality and dreaminess.
Saturn in Pisces represents the dissolution of boundaries, spiritual responsibility, and the struggle between material and ethereal realities. This opposition can bring up themes of overwhelm, where the desire for clear direction (Virgo) clashes with an inability to pin things down (Pisces). The evolutionary task here is to learn how to integrate structure without rigidity and flow without losing sight of purpose.
Psychologically, this transit may trigger anxieties around control, feelings of inadequacy, or fears of failure. It’s essential to recognize where perfectionism or escapism might be hindering progress and to instead focus on creating flexible routines that honor both tangible goals and the need for rest and introspection.
Predictions and Advice for Each Zodiac Sign:
Aries (6H): The New Moon in Virgo lights up your house of daily routines, health, and work habits. This is a perfect time to streamline your day-to-day life and adopt healthier practices. The opposition to Saturn may reveal areas where you’ve been pushing too hard or neglecting self-care. Find balance by integrating discipline with compassion for yourself.
Taurus (5H): This New Moon brings creative inspiration and an urge to find joy in practical hobbies. However, Saturn in your social sector may have you feeling distant from friends or community obligations. Consider where you can make realistic commitments while still leaving space for personal enjoyment.
Gemini (4H): The focus is on your home, family, and emotional foundations. You may feel tension between your need for stability and a sense of drifting or uncertainty about the future. Use this time to create routines that nurture both your inner world and external responsibilities, allowing room for emotional flow.
Cancer (3H): Your communication skills are highlighted, with opportunities to refine how you express yourself. Saturn’s influence might challenge you to take a more mature approach to conversations and to address misunderstandings with patience. This is a good time to establish clearer boundaries in your relationships.
Leo (2H): Financial matters take center stage, urging you to review budgets and spending habits. The opposition to Saturn can trigger fears about scarcity or control over resources. Trust in your ability to balance practicality with intuition, making long-term plans without succumbing to pessimism.
Virgo (1H): With the New Moon in your sign, this is a powerful time for personal reinvention and setting intentions that align with your values. The opposition to Saturn may feel like external pressures or self-imposed doubts. Focus on self-compassion and setting realistic goals, rather than trying to fix everything at once.
Libra (12H): This New Moon activates your subconscious mind, making it a time for introspection and releasing old patterns. Saturn’s retrograde in your sector of health and routines suggests that hidden anxieties or self-sabotaging behaviors could surface. Gentle self-discipline and mindful habits will support you through this process.
Scorpio (11H: Your social circles and long-term goals are under the microscope. You may feel torn between maintaining commitments to others and pursuing your own dreams. Evaluate whether certain obligations are draining your energy and realign with groups or goals that uplift you.
Sagittarius (10H): Career matters take precedence, with the New Moon offering an opportunity to re-establish professional goals. However, Saturn’s influence may challenge your confidence or require patience as you work towards these aspirations. Trust that even small steps can lead to significant progress over time.
Capricorn (9H): This New Moon encourages expanding your horizons through learning, travel, or spiritual growth. The tension with Saturn may reflect a struggle between embracing new perspectives and holding on to old beliefs. Embrace flexibility and explore ways to blend structure with curiosity.
Aquarius (8H): Financial and emotional investments are highlighted, with a need to redefine shared resources or address power dynamics. Saturn retrograde may bring past issues around trust or intimacy to the surface. Take this time to establish clearer boundaries and prioritize mutual respect in your relationships.
Pisces (7H): Partnerships and relationships are under review as this New Moon pushes for clearer communication and realistic expectations. Saturn in your sign can amplify self-doubt or make it difficult to assert your needs. Lean into healthy boundaries and ensure that your connections are built on mutual understanding and respect.

Which style do you like better ( comment 1 or 2 with Next in Career reading)
Next in Career (how would you like to receive this message: bullet points or paragraph form?)
ONE:
Pile One: Page of Cups + 9 Pentacles + 7 Wands + Lovers (1976)
Page of Cups (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces)
Naturally creative
New to the field, may have transitioned from a different skillset
Going in a little naive due to being new to the field or lack of experience
Innocence carries a cup-half-full attitude
Naturally optimistic about your prospects (Elle Woods in law school)
Work brings love and friendship
Represents creative industries, spiritual sector, or working with children in some capacity
9 of Pentacles
There is a potential for you to attain high earnings within this career field
Having a lot of experience with a particular skillset
Turning a situation around, showing growth and maturity
Inherently valuable; you are willing to adapt, and your thorough and organized nature makes you an asset to any company
Worked hard to get to where you are
Likelihood to be an overnight success
7 of Wands: Mars in Leo
With the 9 of Pentacles, getting PTO or using it, parental leave, leave of absence, and sabbatical.
Confident teacher
Excellent public speaker; can hold and maintain engagement within a room well.
Taking action that benefits you, even if it means rejecting a project—set boundaries.
Getting another degree
Masters/PhD (graduate studies), undergrad, associates, certification, GED
The Pair or The Lovers
It can be a powerful team—meeting colleagues or having coworkers you vibe well with
Being able to have trust with someone at work
Working in pairs/having a partner at work
Strong relationship with a mentor or advisor
Lovers is representative of Virgo, and therefore Mercury vibes
Information exchange (meeting to discuss a potential raise or time off)
Interviewing for a new position
In need of work that is naturally mentally stimulating
Advertising/Marketing
Administrative, personal, and/or virtual assistant
Project management
Requires you to multi-task; work with a lot of moving pieces
Working with animals
Educating others about something
Sales or publishing
Facilitating communication btw parties or clients (divorce attorney)
It also reinforces the element of choice in the matter; your experiences bring a fresh pov
TWO: The Page of Cups denotes Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces energies. Some of you are naturally creative and have careers in the arts (writing, illustrating, photography, design). Some of you may be in the wellness or spiritual sector, and some work alongside children in some capacity. Others are entirely new to the field or may have transitioned from a different skill set. You might be going into this situation a little naively due to being new to the field or lack of experience. Be careful with whom you trust and guard against those who seek to take advantage! This innocence carries a cup-half-full attitude; it inspires an Elle Woods type of optimism. This card also invites new relationships, including friendships or a romantic partner, to develop at work.
The 9 of pentacles card conveys the potential to attain a high salary and excellent benefits within your career, as there is much room for professional growth. This card might suggest that you have a lot of experience in a particular skill set (for example, being a pastry chef or photographer). With the Page of Cups, you might be transitioning to a different career field (for example, teacher -> dean) in which you'll apply skills you possess while simultaneously learning to cultivate new skills. Additionally, this card can talk about having the means to turn a situation around, echoing the optimism within the Page of Cups. You are inherently valuable, as you can adapt. Your thorough and organized nature makes you an asset to any company (including your own if you're self-employed). You have worked to get where you are; some may even get a lucky break, quickly finding success in your arena.
The 7 of Wands, which represents Mars in Leo, suggests taking action that benefits you, even if it means rejecting a project and setting boundaries. This card indicates confidence and the ability to stand your ground. It may represent a rest period when paired with the 9 of Pentacles. As this is a general reading, it could include several things, including PTO, maternity leave, a leave of absence, or a sabbatical. It could also convey pursuing further education, such as an undergraduate or graduate degree, associate’s, certification, or GED. It also indicates being a confident teacher with a powerful talent for public speaking, as you can maintain engagement within a room nicely. Creative movements may pique your interest, such as learning to be a Zumba, Pilates, pole, or dancing instructor or a personal trainer.
The Lovers card suggests that what's next in pile one's career may be the beginning stages of a strong partnership, a fruitful collaboration, or you may be connecting with colleagues or coworkers that you can genuinely be yourself around, fostering trust and teamwork. Some of you may be required to work alongside a partner or within a small group of individuals with a similar skill set. Others may be under the guidance of a mentor who will provide helpful insights and support in your professional journey. Regardless, these relationships will be crucial.
Fields that might intrigue Pile One include career paths related to communication, such as advertising, project management, or being a personal and/or virtual assistant, often necessitating a strong ability to multitask. These roles not only offer professional growth but also provide opportunities for personal development. Furthermore, the lovers card is emblematic of mentally stimulating work, as its ruler, Mercury, governs information exchange. This can include careers in education, sales, or publishing. The Lovers card highlights the agency you have in making choices that leverage your unique perspective.

This is Aquarius's time to shine!
Tumblr media
I'm not a pro but just an observer, I have been looking at some celebrities who are Aquarius Sun, and they are really having a good career!
Megan's song Hiss is #1 on the chart. She signed a deal with Warner Music, and she gets to control and manage her masters and songs. And that's an excellent deal because as someone who is a creator is so important to have control of her art because we live in a capitalist society filled with greedy ass corporations that abuse their power and take advantage of people. Megan has this experience with her ex-label. Whewwww, I'm glad she's left! They really wanted her to be their slave but treated her like shit behind the scene.
I think ever since Pluto moved in Aquarius, it; 's given the Aquarius peeps so much power in their career or whatever sector they are a part of or working in.
Tumblr media
First of all, I love this man. But I'm shook that he has two kids! But anyway, he has been doing well publicly. He won a globe and an Emmy, and he did this beautiful and ....sexy campaign with Calvin Klein.
Tumblr media
I had to show it off !!! Yes, he's definitely an Aquarius but his career has been blowing up.
Tumblr media
This beautiful gal works with my man Jeremy on the Bear (watch the show, it's good). I took a look at her birth chart, and she's actually a Libra sun but she's an Aquarius moon! And she has been an IT girl and gathering all these awards and recognition! I hope she getting paid FAIRLY and gaining more opportunities because Hollywood is shitting on black women a lot! But yeah, she's killing it!
Tumblr media
If you are an Aquarius rising or have any prominent placements such as the sun and moon, I think this Pluto in your sign is going to boost you up to a whole other level!
For me, I have a Uranus in Aquarius in my tenth house, so I'm not sure if I'll get a sip of the power juice, but I'm already feeling the energy to shift my career path make realistic plans, and follow through! Because I'll be my own enemy! Now if have other Aquarius placements, I think that you are already feeling the fire!
My sibling actually is an Aquarius stellium and has a sun. My sibling who travel with his friends out of the country, he told me that he has been seeing the same ghost TWICE! Now he can't sleep!
Tumblr media
So some of y'all could see some supernatural shit since Pluto is rule in Scorpio, and pluto involve of taboo and occult stuffs. So it makes sense, but I haven't had it. And I hope not because I'll pass out! But even with Megan with her album theme is so on point around this pluto transit. Her music had symbols about transformation, shedding, snakes and talking her shit !
Tumblr media
So if you are an Aquarius sun, rising, or moon, this is time for you to get your shit together! Go towards your dreams and do some weird things you wanted to do so bad but were scared of what people would say! Fuck them! THIS IS YOUR TIME SO DON'T BLOW IT !!! But... this is a powerful transit so be careful and humble yourself. So be really honest and true with yourself since Pluto is about accountability and transformation.

Excerpt from this story from Anthropocene Magazine:
Nearly ten times as many people in America now work at Starbucks than dig for coal. Coal mining has long been a canary of America’s energy transition—it lost hundreds of thousands of workers in the 20th century, and has shrunk in half again since 2012.
Losing dirty, dangerous coal jobs is one thing, but the wholesale dismantling of our fossil fuel economy promises to be far more disruptive. True, but there’s a huge caveat. The bright light on the horizon is that most estimates of new clean energy jobs dwarf even the largest oil refineries and auto plants.
Winners
1. Everyone (on average). 2021 was a big year for energy jobs globally—it was the first time that more people around the world were working in clean energy jobs than fossil fuels, according to the International Energy Authority (IEA). While the US is still lagging behind that curve, clean energy jobs here are growing at twice the rate of the rest of the energy sector, says the Department of Energy (DOE). And the future looks rosy. Researchers at Dartmouth College calculate that a low carbon economy in the US would create two or even three green energy jobs for every fossil fuel job lost. (That fits with an earlier study out of Berkeley, which found that renewable and sustainable power sources inherently require more people per gigawatt hour of electricity generated, compared to fossil fuel plants).
Tumblr media
2. Solar installers and battery makers. Photovoltaic and energy storage companies have been on a tear, adding tens of thousands of workers last year in the US. When considered along with wind, EVs, heat pumps and critical minerals supply, solar power and batteries accounted for over half of all job growth in global energy production since 2019. And the IEA expects these sectors to add tens of millions more jobs by the end of the decade.
Tumblr media
3. Some surprise hires. Don’t count out Big Oil and Big Auto just yet. Both the IEA and the DOE expect the fossil fuel industry (particularly natural gas) to hire more workers in the immediate future, albeit at slower rates than clean energy jobs and tailing off in years to come. The IEA notes that if fossil fuel companies could successfully transition to hydrogen, carbon capture, geothermal and biofuels processing, they could almost offset decreases in core oil and gas employment all the way to 2030. It also expects car makers to pivot to EV production, retraining workers and safeguarding many jobs.
Losers
1. Oil workers. Changing careers means more than just a quick retraining session. Morgan Frank at the University of Pittsburgh went down the rabbit hole of what transferring US fossil fuel employment to green jobs would actually mean, and the answer isn’t pretty. His team’s paper in Nature found that green energy jobs are not co-located with today’s oil and gas workers, leading them to predict that almost 99% of extraction workers would not transition to green jobs. And any workers that do make the change face a financial hit. The IEA notes that workers moving from oil and gas to wind, solar and hydrogen today would see pay cuts of 15 to 30%.
2. Petro-states. The shift to green energy will be difficult for economies that rely heavily on fossil fuel extraction and processing. Consultancy EY has an illuminating, interactive webpage allowing you to compare employment in regions around the world, under different decarbonization scenarios. Spoiler alert—oil producing nations in the Middle East and Australia are likely to see employment slump, and even Africa could experience a destabilizing wobble unless it accelerates production of green hydrogen and EV battery materials. “Due to the transition, socio-economic sustainability risks will likely increase as the employment rate drops,” warns author Catherine Friday.
3. Homer Simpson. Some low-carbon energy sectors aren’t exactly booming. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) expects the employment of nuclear technicians to decline 6% from 2023 to 2033. The US hit peak nuclear power stations in 2012 and has been declining ever since, as facilities age into decommissioning without being replaced. Meanwhile, a planned new generation of safer, cheaper and more efficient fission reactors continues to suffer cost overruns, red tape and delays, and commercial nuclear fusion remains a decades-distant dream. D’oh!
What To Keep An Eye On
1. Labor shortages. Workers skilled in green energy jobs won’t just appear from nowhere. Projects are already facing delays in the EU and the US from labor shortages. Biden’s omnibus Inflation Reduction Act included incentives for partnering with apprentice programs and other funding that could be used to train maintenance workers, and installers for clean energy projects. But millions of workers will be needed, and in short order.
2. Carbon capture. The IPCC estimates that between 350 and 1200 gigatons of CO2 will need to be captured and stored this century. No one really knows yet what the technologies needed to achieve that will look like, but they will likely involve a lot of new workers. Climate research firm Rhodium Group estimated that each gigaton captured could translate to 1.5 million construction and 500,000 operation jobs.
3. Chat (and other) bots for hire. Any predictions about the future workplace should be taken with a large pinch of AI and robotics. The BLS just issued a report that shows dozens of occupations employing hundreds of thousands of Americans are likely to shrink in the years ahead. Top of the list are clerks and supervisors, but there are plenty of manufacturing and production roles at risk, too, that could affect the green energy roll-out.

The Astrology of the Current Job Market: Navigating Uncertainty and Opportunities
The present job market paints a multifaceted scene, blending opportunity with uncertainty. By delving into astrology’s realm, we gain invaluable insights into the prevailing energies and potential trends shaping this landscape.
The main astrological influences of this include:
Saturn in Pisces: Saturn represents structure and responsibility, and is currently transitioning through Pisces, where we’re being forced to re-evaluate our belief systems, boundaries, and spirituality. We’re also being asked to bring our far-fetched dreams down to earth to create them into earthly reality.
Uranus in Taurus: Uranus is the planet of unstable sudden shifts and disruptions, in the normally, stable sign of Taurus forces us to hold on to change how we normally go about our financial and tangible stability. The economic landscape in this transit is ever-changing and we’re being asked to let go of the façade of traditional job security and seek alternative sources of income.
Pluto in Capricorn: Pluto has been steadily transforming our relationship with power and authority. While Capricorn represents ambition and career, since 2008, this transit has deeply restructured the job market prompting fluctuations in the job market.
These transits have increased the need for automation thus promoting tech-drive jobs. While this does lead to job displacement in many sectors, it also helps create new opportunities in others. Case in point, the gig economy and freelance work. A greater emphasis has been placed on soft skills and adaptability. We are entering a world where skills like critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving are leading the way.
Tips to Navigate the Job Market:
Develop your adaptability and resilience: Be open to learning new skills and adapting to changes in your field.
Embrace technology and digital tools: Develop your digital literacy and leverage technology to enhance your job search and career development.
Explore alternative career paths: Don’t be afraid to explore new opportunities outside your traditional career track.
Network and build connections: Building strong relationships and connections can open doors to new opportunities.
Focus on your personal growth and well-being: Investing in your personal development can make you more resilient and adaptable in the face of uncertainty.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can't fathom the number of messages I've received throughout my career from people demanding I answer why I’ve done ads. For the people that are truly familiar with my work, I've used the QBV for years to center and discuss this issue. There is no ethical way to earn our money as environmentalists, but perhaps there is a career that is the least harmful. I’ve explained it in the past: most of my revenue comes from ads, some speaking events, and consulting clients. I don’t come from any generational wealth, my parents rely on me as their source of survival, and I feel that every time people leave their comments like, "why are you doing this?", I tell myself these are the same people who don’t even engage with my content, don’t support me in transitioning to being hired for speaking events and other engagements, and are only there to leave binary statements. In examining the current structures, many of us in the Global North continue to uphold the oppression of humans and animals. Our systems and dominant belief systems do this without us needing to do anything. This isn't about being morally superior to one another but about the intent of reducing harm in different sectors of our life. I’ve found myself in conversations about how we create opportunities beyond this space, and a lot of my friends are also working through this. It’s not easy. More often than not, people (outside of my community) are quick to dismiss my past answers, responses, and commitments, and impose their view on how the world should be, while doing nothing to bring about the existence of that world.
I continue to develop free education for everyone on these platforms to emphasize that everyone deserves equitable, introductory environmental education. Currently, my paid engagements are one way that I support myself, my family, and my team. These conversations about funding need to be active and I don't trust your comment on social media to reveal any answers, because no matter what I say, these people will simply walk away and are more interested in a call-out than a conversation. It's not about critique not being allowed (because it is), but rather, how much existing social power and privilege play a role in who can say these things about money and where it comes from, especially so freely towards BIPOC. I'm always rooting for my friends, and I know that we are all trying in this space.

Embracing DevOps as a Career Choice in India: A Path to Success
In the ever-evolving landscape of technology, choosing the right career path is pivotal to your professional growth and overall success. Among the myriad of options available, DevOps stands out as an exceptional choice not only in India but across the globe. The term "DevOps" itself is a fusion of "Development" and "Operations," and it represents more than just a job or a skill set; it encapsulates a comprehensive set of practices and cultural philosophies aimed at enhancing collaboration and communication between software development teams and IT professionals. This methodology has gained immense popularity in the software industry, and for good reason – it possesses the transformative power to improve efficiency, streamline processes, and expedite software delivery.
Tumblr media
High Demand in India
India, with its burgeoning tech industry, is no exception to the DevOps revolution. DevOps professionals are in high demand in the country, driven by the increasing recognition of the need for efficient software delivery and the adoption of continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines. This surge in demand spans across a wide spectrum, from startups that are rapidly scaling up to established enterprises seeking to stay competitive in a dynamic market.
Lucrative Salaries
One of the most enticing aspects of pursuing a DevOps career is the financial reward it offers. DevOps practitioners frequently enjoy competitive salaries, and as their experience grows, so do their earnings. This financial stability is a key factor in making DevOps an attractive career choice in India.
Versatility Across Industries
Versatility is another hallmark of a DevOps career. The skills acquired in DevOps are highly transferable and adaptable across industries and technologies. Whether your interests lie in e-commerce, finance, healthcare, or any other sector, the principles and tools of DevOps are universally applicable. This flexibility provides you with a diverse array of career options and the opportunity to explore various domains.
Continuous Learning
DevOps is not a stagnant field but a continually evolving one. To remain relevant and competitive, DevOps professionals must commit to lifelong learning. The field is characterized by its dynamism, with new tools, practices, and technologies emerging regularly. This culture of continuous learning ensures that your skills stay in demand, keeping you at the forefront of the industry.
Efficiency and Automation
Efficiency and automation are at the heart of DevOps. The methodology places a strong emphasis on optimizing and automating repetitive tasks, which not only reduces the risk of manual errors but also accelerates the delivery of software. This enhanced efficiency leads to quicker release cycles and improved product quality, a win-win scenario for both businesses and professionals.
Collaboration and Communication
Collaboration and communication are integral components of DevOps. It shatters traditional organizational silos, promoting seamless interaction among previously isolated teams, such as developers, operations, and quality assurance. The result is a harmonious workflow where software development aligns seamlessly with the objectives of the business. This spirit of teamwork and cooperation is an invaluable asset in any workplace.
Career Growth
As your career in DevOps progresses, you'll discover a world of possibilities. DevOps professionals often find themselves on a path to leadership positions. With experience, you can transition into roles such as DevOps manager, architect, or consultant. This career growth potential is a testament to the promising future DevOps offers.
Tumblr media
In conclusion, choosing a career in DevOps in India is not merely a good decision; it's a strategically sound one. DevOps is not just another career choice; it represents a transformative force shaping the world of IT and software development. Its ability to enhance collaboration, streamline processes, and expedite software delivery is driving efficiency and innovation, and this trend shows no signs of slowing down.
The demand for DevOps professionals, the competitive salaries, and the versatility of DevOps skills make it a highly lucrative and rewarding career path. As the global technology landscape evolves, DevOps professionals continue to be at the forefront of innovation. Editor's note: This research brief is the first in a two-part series exploring how cities can support green workers, especially amid historic federal infrastructure investment. The second brief focuses on specific federal funding opportunities.
The transition to a cleaner and more resilient economy will be one of the most significant economic and physical transformations in U.S. history. Trillions of dollars will be required to adopt clean electricity, retrofit homes and businesses, establish new manufacturing processes, and protect cities and towns from changing weather patterns. Now, with landmark federal laws—including the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and Inflation Reduction Act—bringing significant public capital and tax credits to further incentivize private investment, the transition is poised to gain speed in the coming decade.
The rise of a green economy has also brought a renewed focus on green jobs. To put all this public and private capital to use, the country needs a sizable workforce to construct new power plants and transmission lines, modernize older buildings, and plan and deliver more resilient communities. Ideally, the transition to a green economy should offer durable and growing career pathways while it cleans the air, protects American neighborhoods, and grows U.S. industries.
However, there is reason for skepticism over whether there are enough workers ready to pursue all these projects. The workers who construct, operate, and maintain U.S. infrastructure are either in short supply, aging, or leaving their jobs rapidly. Transportation departments, water utilities, and other employers are struggling to retain talent, let alone find the millions of new workers needed in the skilled trades and other related positions in the coming years. Growing a clean economy will require more analysts, managers, and other white-collar professionals to oversee and assess humanmade and natural infrastructure systems. The concept of a green job is still far too amorphous, with little understanding of the knowledge and skills it will take to execute more climate-focused work.
Preparing a climate-ready workforce requires an all-hands-on-deck approach among public and private leaders across the country—including federal policymakers, state community college systems, and individual employers—but these capacity-related gaps often come to ground in U.S. cities and regions. Past Brookings research has highlighted how cities are essential to driving climate action. Many cities continue to make bold climate pledges, including commitments to achieve net zero emissions and protect the most vulnerable. They also play an active role in workforce development, including by funding educational and related training programs. But without a coordinated, comprehensive plan to retrain and recruit workers in well-defined, green-related careers, city leaders will be unable to achieve their climate ambitions.
This brief assesses 50 large cities’ climate action plans (CAPs), which ideally should encapsulate many of the elements essential to local infrastructure workforce development. Local leaders need to articulate their training and hiring priorities, the various sectors in need of talent, and the funding and timelines required to accelerate action. Of course, CAPs are not the only planning efforts addressing such needs—amid other programs launched by federal and state leaders, in addition to innovations in the private sector—but this brief shows that many local leaders are not in a position to harness new funding and that they have more workforce planning to do:
Most of the relevant cities—47 of 50—mention green jobs in their CAPs, but they only tend to do so in passing. While some cities do not refer to green jobs at all in their plans, most cities only include a more general call for equity and greater net opportunities.
Most of the cities—40 of 50—emphasize energy projects when discussing workforce needs, but considerably fewer cities emphasize workforce needs in terms of buildings, transportation, or other parts of the built environment. Only about half of the cities (24) emphasize workforce needs around building upgrades and retrofits, while even fewer (20) emphasize these needs around transportation improvements.
Only 19 of the 50 cities include detailed information on collaboration with other institutional and organizational partners when discussing workforce development. Examples of these partners include community colleges, community-based organizations, and other groups essential to engaging new workers, training them, and providing supportive services.
Only 11 of the 50 cities include information on funding—or additional programmatic support—for workforce development. Many cities do not spell out clear costs for needed training programs or propose specific funding and financing to support them.
Only 9 of the 50 cities include specific dates, benchmarks, or timelines for workforce development. Most CAPs lack details on the duration of any green workforce development efforts or benchmarks to measure success.
This research brief does not aim to precisely define green jobs, especially amid continued debates among policymakers and researchers on how to isolate, measure, or forecast such employment figures. Rather, this brief seeks to address the information deficits limiting local and regional planning about green jobs. It first examines the scope of the green jobs challenge by outlining the major skills and training needs, before considering some of the essential ingredients for ongoing local workforce development planning. Then, using detailed findings from our review of 50 municipal CAPs, we describe many of the successful practices that city leaders and other stakeholders can adopt to expand climate-focused talent development. America is poised to unleash generation-defining climate investment—and the American worker is poised to be a central part of these efforts.
A full list of the 50 cities analyzed is available in an interactive map below and described more extensively in a downloadable methods appendix.
