I've been doing a bit of research, and it turns out in New York City you are required to have at least seven years of experience to become certified as a "master plumber." A minimum of two of these years need to be spent as a "journeyman plumber," where you're licensed to repair pipes so long as you're working under the supervision of a master plumber.
Mario and Luigi can't legally run their business if they're both journeyman plumbers, but that would mean (if they are really both 24-25 like Shigeru Miyamoto says) at least one of them began training to be a plumber the instant he got out of high school. But if that's the case, how did they end up working in demolition?
Tumblr media
My theory is that, since demolition companies sometimes locate and strip fixtures in commercial and residential properties for reuse or resale, plumbing fittings included, The Wrecking Crew hired the two plumbers-in-training to spot salvageable materials and take them apart. But if Foreman Spike happens to have a bone to pick and/or is on a power trip, I can easily imagine him adding hard labor on top of whatever plumbing-related jobs they were assigned until their schedule was filled with far more wrecking than plumbing.
Tumblr media
But eventually, Mario got all his hours logged, passed his master plumber exam, got his commercial activity license, and got him and his brother the heck out of there. Which brings me to an additional theory that Luigi is still a journeyman plumber and not yet a master plumber.
There's a few bits of Nintendo lore that describe Luigi as something of an "understudy," or otherwise not quite as experienced as his brother in the realm of plumbing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which makes sense given the way Luigi seems to take on the apprentice role, closely watching the way Mario works and carrying around all the tools.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think Luigi didn't immediately know what he wanted to do the moment he graduated high school the way Mario did. Maybe he dabbled in mechanics for a little bit before he ultimately decided to join his bro in his plumbing venture, but as a result he's a few years behind.

MILVERTON AS AN EMPLOYER
I analyzed Milverton as a villain a lot of times before, now I decided to analyze him what is he like as an employer.
Because I believe he is actually not bad as an employer.
We don't see him interacting with employees other than Ruskin - whom I will leave out now since their behaviour around each other is more than a simple working relationship - and his bodyguards. When it comes to his bodyguards, Milverton always showed respect towards them and surely paid them really well as they were actually loyal to the money and not to their boss. Beside them, Milverton employed servants in his household and at least, several hundred people as a businessman who owned lot of companies.
Let's look at what we can deduce about the servants first. We only see them during the plumbing incident in Two Criminals - and while they were panicking, but this was just general shock about the sudden water problems, neither of them were specifically afraid of that "the master will kill us when he comes home." (Agatha even had time to wander about which plumber is better looking).
Tumblr media
Sherlock's plan on breaking in to Milverton's house also wasn't about making the servants help them with offering them chance to get revenge on Milverton - Sherlock knew about the Milverton household circumstances, the fact that he couldn't use the servants help suggests that Milverton treated them well and they had no reason to get revenge. Here, I also want to mention that in the Conan Doyle story, Milverton several times made servants of other households to get letters for him he could use for blackmail, offering them revenge on their employers who mistreated them - Yuumori Milverton also surely use this method to get blackmail material, so to not let his enemies use the weapon he used, he needs to pay his servants well and treat them nicely.
Now, about the employees who work at Milverton's companies. While it's basically everyone's job description to manipulate the news to Milverton's will, he still gives jobs to quite a lot of people - and he surely pays them fairly as well. When the Moriarties first discussed Milverton, neither of them mentioned gossips about him mistreating his workers, there was no sign about him being evil. Beside, Milverton is a businessman and the way he chose his closer assistants - Ruskin and the bodyguards - shows that he values people by how much they fit to a job and not by if they are "fancy" enough in the eyes of the social circles he does business with. Even if Milverton views most of the people around him as tools - the people he employs are useful to him, he needs to treat them well to get use out of them in long term.
So Milverton as an employer is far from evil, quite the opposite: even if his intentions are just to not let the people know who he really is (if the public knows about his evil deeds, his business carreer is ruined) and to less likely be betrayed by his employees by not giving them reason to get revenge on him, he surely pays his workers well and treat them nicely. He wouldn't have his media power without journalists who write in his newspaper, after all.

Dorelle Heisel Plumbed Brain Mysteries And Psychedelicized Cincinnati’s Social Circles
Dorelle Markley Heisel called Cincinnati her home for several decades, but her mind was in another dimension. She was known as “Cincinnati’s Brain Lady” and held college faculty positions in literature, psychology and fine art. She pioneered biofeedback techniques to control mental and bodily functions while introducing Cincinnati’s strait-laced society to the psychedelic subculture of the Sixties.
Virginia Dorelle Markley was born in 1917 in Danville, Illinois but spent her childhood shuttling between her father’s Palm Beach restaurant and her mother’s St. Louis hotel. At DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, she was student royalty – literally – voted May Queen in her senior year.
It was at DePauw that she met and became engaged to W. Donald Heisel, a Cincinnati native and Western Hills High School alumnus. At the time of his 1940 marriage to Dorelle, Heisel was assistant secretary to Cincinnati’s Civil Service Commission and was, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer [21 May 1940] “one of the city’s youngest executives.” The Heisels built a new house on a quiet cul de sac in Westwood, where they raised two daughters.
Don Heisel earned a reputation as the “godfather of public administration in the Tristate” [Cincinnati Enquirer 6 March 1988] because of the many governmental officials he mentored at the University of Cincinnati and at Xavier University. Dorelle, who had earned a degree in English from DePauw, added a bachelor’s (1952) and master’s (1965) in education from UC while also taking classes at the Cincinnati Art Academy.
Dorelle taught English for several years in Cincinnati high schools and at the Ohio Mechanics Institute. During the summers she was a fixture at Pogue’s Department Store. Hundreds of Queen City baby boomers likely display pastel portraits of themselves, sketched by Dorelle at her stand in the Pogue’s children’s department. She hated the drab institutional brown walls in her husband’s office, so one day she hauled her pastels over to City Hall and executed a large mural of the Cincinnati skyline, drawn from memory.
Tumblr media
UC’s University College recruited Dorelle in the mid-1960s and she flourished there, teaching literature, art appreciation and psychology. With assistance from the Procter & Gamble company, she brought innovative technology into her classrooms with a push-button feedback device that allowed students to register immediate opinions regarding class content. She told the Cincinnati Post [14 March 1968]:
“When students become frustrated with a lecture or feel lost or just plain bored, they can indicate their anxiety by signaling me on the monitor.”
Dorelle’s interest in media and their effects on human communication led her to Canadian theorist Marshall McLuhan, known for his books “Understanding Media” and “The Medium Is The Massage.” Among the earliest mentions of McLuhan in Cincinnati newspapers is a reference to a 1966 Evening College class taught by Dorelle to introduce the Canadian theorist’s ideas to Cincinnati.
Simultaneously with her investigations of media and biofeedback, Dorelle dove into what was then known as the human potential movement. She presided over a multi-week UC Evening College class titled “Actualizing Your Potential: A Group Happening.” Enquirer reporter Jo Thomas sat in on the course and reported [21 August 1969] a most unusual classroom experience.
“I will not lecture,” Heisel said. “You will live out experiences, and I will ask you questions. Answer them in your head without verbalizing them. Writing is so slow and the mind works at such speed.”
Dorelle invited the students to form themselves into trains of about nine “cars,” kindergarten-style and take turns being the “engine” or the “caboose.”
“Elderly women hung on to 20-year-olds. Bald men chugged in front of bearded men. Around and around the room the trains went, gathering momentum and enthusiasm. One train burst out of the classroom door into the bright hall, chugging with gusto.”
The explosion of new ideas generated by the psychedelic Sixties energized Dorelle and she launched a series of public lectures to share her excitement. One wonders how her Cincinnati audiences, among such mainline organizations such as the Federation of Jewish Organizations and the Kiwanis Club, reacted to her exposition titled “Turn On, Tune In, Find Out!”
Tumblr media
An early adopter of technology, Dorelle acquired a variety of devices to assist her research into altering thought patterns via biofeedback. Among these contraptions were the electromyograph and the alphaphone that made brainwaves audible or visual. She claimed that biofeedback, in addition to curing a variety of conditions from depression to migraines, transported users into a new state of being that she called the Kairos Dimension.
"The Kairos Dimension is nature taking its electronic course through you by providing strategies for amplifying your sensory range,” she announced in her 1974 book, “The Kairos Dimension.”
The titles of Dorelle’s non-credit classes and community lectures indicate the paths her biofeedback research led her down: “Brainfun: Steering Minds In New Directions,” “The Holographic Mind,” “How Biofeedback Opens Social Spaces,” and “How Biofeedback Supports Excitement And Growth.” Here is the course catalog description for one of these classes:
“Feelings of stress, tension and pressure take place only in muscles, never in the chemical-electrical brain that sends out orders. New research gives us a more accurate model of how we guide and control our range of ‘body sculptures.’ Small group exploration of the latest technologies.”
As the Human Potential movement evolved into various New Age philosophies, Dorelle’s biofeedback strategies caught on among that crowd. When the Montreal Star compiled a list of 50 important New Age books in 1975, Dorelle’s “Biofeedback Exercise Book” was featured along with books on transcendental meditation, herbal remedies, gestalt therapy and “The Joy of Sex.”
The nationally syndicated television show, P.M. Magazine, hosted Dorelle in November 1983 as “Cincinnati’s Brain Lady who enables you to see your brain on a television screen.” For a brief period, UC’s radio station WGUC aired a show devoted to Dorelle’s “Kairos Dimension.”
The Heisels divorced in 1977 and throughout the 1980s Dorelle’s public appearances waned. A Body/Mind/Spirit Festival at Avondale’s Unitarian Church in 1988 found her discussing biofeedback along with proponents of shamanism, tarot cards, crystals, chelation therapy and psychic powers.
Dorelle retired from UC and relocated to Plano, Texas where one of her daughters lived. In retirement, she played bridge and painted portraits. She died, aged 79, in November 1996.

Bilbo Baggins X F! reader
“Unnoticed love?” PT1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Being the only girl in the company was undoubtedly challenging, especially as a hobbit. The dwarves had never encountered a hobbit lass before, and they initially hesitated to let Y/n join the journey, fearing she would slow them down with their preference for comfort, specific meal times, and plumper physiques compared to other races. However, Y/n's unwavering determination eventually won them over. She vividly recalled the events that led to their acceptance.
The moon bathed the Shire in its ethereal glow, casting a beautiful blue tint upon the ground. Y/n observed Bilbo cooking and preparing tea for both of them.
"I apologize for missing tea this morning. A wizard tried to recruit me for an adventure, but I declined," Bilbo said, placing a cup of tea in front of Y/n. The sweet aroma wafted towards her face. Bilbo knew exactly how she liked her tea, with a touch of cream and plenty of sugar.
"No need to worry, Bo. I witnessed the interaction on my way to the market," Y/n replied, lifting the cup and taking a small sip, her laughter escaping as she did.
"What's so amusing?" Bilbo asked, curiosity evident in his voice. "Oh, just the expression on your face when you went inside. It's not every day one sees a displeased Bilbo, unless it involves those Sackville-Baggins," Y/n chuckled, picking up one of the sweet treats Bilbo had prepared and taking a bite.
The two of them often shared meals together, almost like a tradition, which had led some of the other hobbits to speculate about their romantic involvement. However, Y/n knew deep down that her feelings were unrequited, despite her yearning for more. If only she could see the way Bilbo looked at her.
Their comfortable silence was shattered by a loud, insistent knocking on the door, startling both hobbits. "Were we expecting company?" Y/n placed her pastry down and stood up. "I don't believe so," Bilbo replied, joining her. He approached the door, hesitant about turning anyone away. What if they needed help? Taking a deep breath, he grasped the doorknob and opened the door. A dwarf stood before them, his features highlighted by the moon's glow, giving his beard a bluish undertone.
"Dwalin, at your service," the dwarf introduced himself, bowing and eyeing both hobbits. The interaction was awkward as he barged in and helped himself to some food, leaving the hobbits dumbfounded. "I guess what they say about dwarves is true," Y/n huffed, observing him devour their food.
Before long, more dwarves arrived, including Balin, the brother of the first dwarf, and two brothers named Fili and Kili. The wizard himself also made an appearance, followed by a swarm of dwarves stumbling over each other as they entered.
Y/n found amusement in watching their squabbles as they struggled to regain their footing. One dwarf tipped his hat and winked at her. "Bofur," he introduced himself, extending his hand, which Y/n shyly shook. "Y/n, a pleasure," she replied in a soft, cautious voice. Bofur placed his other hand on top of hers, grinning. This gesture did not go unnoticed.
The situation escalated when the group began singing, resulting in chaos. They clanged silverware together, tossed food, and spilled wine everywhere. It was a spectacle that surely alerted the neighbors. Y/n attempted to catch plates, while Bilbo desperately tried to prevent further damage, including potential plumbing disasters.
Now in the kitchen, washing the dishes, a young dwarf named Ori approached Y/n. She smiled, looking at his bashful face, as he handed her a plate. "Thank you, Master Dwarf," she said graciously.
Since that fateful night, Y/n found herself surrounded by the dwarves. Initially, there was tension due to her outburst with Thorin, but she felt more at ease with the others. When she wasn't conversing with Bilbo, she would engage in discussions with Bofur or Balin. Bilbo observed from a distance, his stomach churning with a sense of neglect. He couldn't quite pinpoint whether it was jealousy or anger, but he despised the feeling. He would watch Y/n return from the river, her wet hair clinging to her face, her flushed cheeks after a battle, or her cheeks puffing out when she ate. Observing her lick her lips only heightened his desire.
"Are you alright, Master Burglar?" Fili nudged Bilbo, snapping him out of his reverie. "Hm? Yes, I'm quite alright," Bilbo replied, fumbling with his hands, worried that he had been caught staring at his beloved friend. "It must be challenging being away from home, let alone on a perilous mission. But at least you still have some comfort with you," Fili remarked, glancing at Y/n. "I don't know how you manage to stay focused," he continued, his gaze lingering admiringly on her curvaceous figure. Bilbo couldn't blame them; he himself was guilty of such thoughts. He watched Y/n's every move, her hair still damp and sticking to her face as she walked alongside Ori, listening to his rant about his older brothers.
Bilbo's desire for Y/n remained unspoken, buried deep within. One side of him yearned to claim her as his own, to let the world know that she belonged to him. But he knew the truth—she was not his. They weren't courting, which meant she was available for others to pursue. The other side of him simply longed to drag her away into a secluded tent and express his desires, hoping she would reciprocate.
"Bilbo," Thorin's voice echoed, breaking the momentary trance. "Tend to the horses," he commanded. Bilbo sighed, watching Y/n fulfill her duties.
The company continued their journey towards Erebor, which meant passing through Mirkwood—a prospect that displeased Thorin but left him with no alternative. It was no surprise when they were captured by the elves. While the other dwarves underwent thorough searches, the elves were uncertain where to begin searching Y/n. One male elf patted down her sleeves, but that was the extent of it. "Hey! Why are you putting your filthy hands all over us but ignoring her?" Kili exclaimed, but the elf sighed and ignored his question. "We should have hidden our weapons on her," Gloin grumbled. "Excuse me?" Y/n turned her head, astonished by the remark.
They were presented before the king himself, Thranduil. Thorin gritted his teeth, looking beyond him. "Mr. Thorin, are you alright?" Y/n glanced at her leader, witnessing a softening in his gaze when he looked at her. She appeared so vulnerable, restrained—though they all likely did—yet he remained silent.
A gentle hand slid under Y/n's chin, redirecting her attention from Thorin to Thranduil. "Sweet hobbit, what brings you so far from the Shire?" Thranduil cooed, treating her as if she were a child. Y/n remained silent, her mind plagued by numerous
questions. Would everyone be alright? Would she be safe? And, most importantly, where was Bilbo? Unbeknownst to them, he observed everything from his hidden vantage point. He had never seen her look so fragile before, kneeling before a king, beneath someone who wasn't him.
"Are you at a loss for words? No matter, we will take good care of your friends," Thranduil declared before instructing his guards to remove them, leaving the two alone. Bilbo knew he had to act swiftly, despite the heartache it caused him. He had to find a way for them to escape as soon as possible.
Thranduil circled around Y/n, resembling a predator stalking its prey. "You never answered my question. Are you here to reclaim Erebor as well?" His tone carried a taunting quality, as if he couldn't believe a hobbit would willingly leave the comfort of their own home for an adventure. "Release them; they are my friends," Y/n spoke softly. Thranduil chuckled, ceasing his circling motion and kneeling before her. "Friends? Oh, my dear, you are merely a pawn in their game. Once they have the opportunity, they will discard you as if you were nothing," he said, gazing into her eyes. "Oh, little one."
He lightly caressed her cheek, smiling. "I believe it's only fair to say you will be treated much better here. I cannot allow your delicate hands to become even more roughed up than they already are," he remarked, alluding to the skirmish with the giant spiders. "Stay with me," he urged. "No," Y/n replied firmly.
"No?" Thranduil removed his hand from her cheek, repeating her answer. "No?" Rising from his kneeling position, he stared her down. "Why not? Do you truly wish to fight alongside these... these creatures? Oh, my dear, you should learn to choose your battles wisely because...," his voice darkened, "I'm afraid you won't be spared." "I'm doing this for someone I love!" Y/n blurted out. Instead of a chuckle, Thranduil burst into laughter. "You? You love one of the dwarves?" he exclaimed. "It's not the dwarves. It's..." Y/n's voice trailed off. Thranduil sighed, instructing Tauriel to apprehend her alongside the others.
Now sitting alone in a dark and desolate cell, Y/n was left with her thoughts. Worries washed over her, refusing to dissipate. They were trapped, and Bilbo was nowhere to be found. What if he had been devoured by the spiders?

Sheeeesh batgordon neighbors au where Bruce keeps messing things up in his place just so the hottest single dad next door can come fix it for him jjcjfjf
Tumblr media
(Jim, "worried" when Bruce notifies him that the heating in his room is broken again; when he was the one who fixed it wrong from the beginning and just wants an excuse to get into his Pretty Boy's room without causing suspicion)
In the beginning, Bruce would never damage some property in porpuse. Jim is the one ho enter in the apartment and do something for be a reason for him to be there.
For real Bruce is innocent in this situation.
Jim? he is the evil master mind.
It's not that Bruce doesn't know how to build or repair things.
He could have been a cradle millionaire and quietly lived off the various trusts his parents and various relatives left him as a child all his life if he wanted to; there would even be money left over for his grandchildren to go to a top school of their choice up to master's level.
But Alfred, and later after his international mental-health tour, taught him how to repair things in a decent way. If the damage was too much… well, his black card would have no qualms about remodeling.
The detail is as follows.
The city is definitely quite a trip. Many infrastructures are from even Victorian times until it had its big gothic waves here and there until it settled down hard. And, even the more modern buildings make hints of neo-Gothic architecture so as not to make a contrast.
But let's not talk about architecture, let's talk about old age.
Older buildings, which involve overdue refurbishments, mean that it is quite common for several things to go wrong, but then when you repair one part you soon after have to repair the other and so on until you have to do a total refurbishment of the whole thing itself.
So, Bruce decides to move closer to the centre for some major repairs inside all his buildings and the mansion. He inadvertently ends up renting an apartment next door to Jim.
The landlord had warned Alfred that although there were increasing renovations, others would have to be done in a short time or else everything would go to hell.
Guess what happens first? You guessed right, there was a gas leak. Bruce managed to make the change at that precise moment, but he had to ask Jim for some reinforcement to make the pipe change; since it was so long he had to have an extra hand.
And so on and so forth with each thing that was going wrong.
Bruce finds it odd that Jim can always fix things, but hey, if the good man can help him with everything he needs, so much the better.
(Bruce never notices that Jim fixes something, but then screws up something small so he has a reason to come back to his side)
When he least expected it, Jim would be in his flat almost every day, sweaty, shirtless, showing off all those muscles and biceps with some of his platinum hair and hairy chest… fixing the heating that had gone wrong because he'd replaced the previous pipe. With a deep baritone voice calling him boy with an affectionate endearment whenever Bruce calls him totally soaked or with a new problem from his flat.
Jim would always be willing to help him, even if it is the third time in a month that the same incident has happened. He is so patient with him and always smiles willingly. There's nothing wrong with that, is there?
Besides, there is nothing wrong with having a nice DILF to help you him repair his flat. Jim is nice.
Tumblr media
(Jim, really worried when he notices that Bruce is calling a plumbing and electrical company to do a complete renovation of the building's system).

HI so im just gonna throw out a random idea and see if it sticks, cause i have Thoughts once again and i refuse to keep them to myself.
(also, this is long as hell, you have been warned.)
- - - - - - - - - - - - -
give me Mario and Luigi as a broken family. from the outside in they look almost perfect, the wacky brother duo who could do it all from princess saving to ghost hunting to plumbing.
Mario is the older brother, by 8 or so years, the extraverted and energetic hero who is always ready to go save the princess or lend a helping hand. he's the one who's got every situation under control, his confidence and happy demeanor bringing smiles to every toad around.
his younger brother Luigi, on the other hand, seems much more like an introverted homebody than anything else. he's the one staying behind when Mario goes on his big missions, helping to rebuild the Mushroom Kingdom after each kidnapping. he's the one doing most of the actual plumbing, his anxious and quiet personality keeping him distant from everyone. despite that, he's successfully faced off King Boo three separate times.
behind the outside facade, however, things aren't as shiny between the brothers as they may seem.
their upbringing in Brooklyn was rough. they spent most of their younger years homeless, and given their age gap, it was Mario who had to provide for Luigi in any way he could. that meant stealing food to eat, but also fighting those that wanted to harm them - and Luigi's trusting nature made it a common occurrence. it's due to this that Mario was forced to control both his and Luigi's life to the fullest, and this behaviour, born out of fear for their very lives, became so engrained in him that he never let it go even when they were finally safe after being transported to the mushroom kingdom.
for Luigi, this complete control from Mario meant that he was never really able to develop his own personality. he never went anywhere without Mario, never did anything without Mario; and while his brother liked to believe that he was keeping his baby brother safe in their little bubble, unknowing of the hardships they were facing, Luigi knew.
he only really noticed it when he started to attend school (after his brother learned a trade and managed to find a stable job). he saw it in the way the other children sneered at his worn clothes, heard it in the way they would whisper about him when they thought he couldn't hear. Luigi was never outright bullied, but he was definitely Othered by his peers, and coupling that with his brother's iron grip on everything he did, being unable to explore any part of himself, and the deep-seated paranoia that Mario let slip in any of their conversation messed with his head. it's how he became so anxious, so deeply afraid of everything around him, and how he ultimately ended up tying his worth as a person to his brother's existence. he was absolutely dependent on Mario.
when Luigi graduated, he learned the same trade his brother had, and worked at the same company as well. they continued this co-dependency for a few years; during one job they did together they were transported to the mushroom kingdom - Luigi in his early 20s and Mario approaching 30 - and they were taken in by Princess Peach.
they were offered a nice little house to live in, just outside the capital. their plumbing skills were helpful, as they quickly started to earn their keep. Mario especially became a well-liked figure among toads, being a master at hiding any negative emotion inside him to keep a calm and happy front. he made sure to be the one to gain every toad's favour, so that they wouldn't be forced out of the home they were given, and so that Luigi would, by pure association, never face any trouble here.
when the kidnappings started, Mario quickly became the mushroom kingdom's hero. his survival and fighting skills led to a quick rescue, and it paved the way for friendship between the Princess and the brothers (Peach being the first friend that Mario truly allowed Luigi to have, eventually extending that grace to Peach's cousin, Daisy).
Peach and Luigi's friendship had a slow beginning, with Luigi having close to no social skills or hobbies that they could talk about. but as she gained Mario's trust over time, he started allowing Luigi to be alone with her for short periods of time; and those were just what she needed to help him get to know himself.
it started with baking, and then later on cooking. sewing, piano, singing, painting - bit by bit she introduced the younger brother to various hobbies to help him find out what he liked to do. aside from these activities, the longer they spent together the deeper their friendship ran. Peach was a healing presence to be around, and Luigi proved himself to be a caring and immensely loyal friend to her.
their friendship also meant, however, that Luigi started insisting on joining Mario in his rescue missions, something Mario absolutely hated the thought of. it's too dangerous for you to go, he would say. she's my best friend, Mario, i can't take being left alone to worry.
Mario would always put his foot down in the end.
this power struggle between the two would only grow bigger and bigger. Luigi wanted more independence, to make his own decisions, and Mario always denied him, telling him that it was to keep him safe. arguments became more and more frequent, and they both became angrier at the other for their behaviour. it all came to a head when Luigi, furious at having been left behind again, left the house in the middle if the night following after his brother in an attempt to help with the rescue.
it took him much longer to traverse the plains towards the koopa kingdom than it did Mario; after all, he had never left Toad Town before, nor travelled this far on foot on only survival equipment. he did reach Bowser's castle eventually, finding a way to sneak in unseen. in the chaos that ensued within the castle, Luigi found a way to help his brother out but paid the price of being caught by him, too. it infuriated the older brother to no end.
the walk back to the mushroom kingdom was tense, and largely silent. Mario was refusing to look at anyone or even say a single word, only keeping a tight grip on Luigi's wrist as they walked. Luigi was deeply afraid of Mario's wrath in that moment, knowing he was in for it when they got back home. Peach tried to fill the silence somehow, keep both brothers distracted, but the older one stayed unreactive whereas any light conversation from the younger was short.
the two dropped the Princess off at the castle, and she watched pale and afraid as Mario dragged Luigi back to their home without so much as a goodbye.
the fight that started when the front door closed was the worst one yet. Mario was yelling, gesturing wildly as he reiterated the thongs he's told Luigi a million times over. his brother was trying to defend himself, for the first time truly trying to air out his grievances and get him to see his perspective. but Mario would barely let him get a word in, not even looking at him as he continued. it culminated in Mario telling Luigi in anger the very thing he had been afraid of his whole life: that he was to blame for what happened to them, that their hardships were his fault, that he was a burden to his brother.
it broke something inside of Luigi.
Mario continued screaming out every thought that came to his head, not noticing the way his brother had gone quiet, the way tears were rapidly streaming down his face. in fact, the older brother wouldn't notice it at all for the rest of the conversation, instead banishing his brother to his room to reflect on what he's done before leaving the house to cool off.
Luigi felt numb, and out of place. his brother had just told him he hated him (using different words) and then left him. it almost seemed like the walls were closing on him the longer he stayed in this room, suffocating him with every memory that existed here. it took him a few hours before he could move his stiff and tired body - but when he did it was dead of night, and Mario was still gone. the words he had said echoed through his head relentlessy. and as if he were on auto-pilot, he packed up a few sets of clothes, some non-perishables from the pantry, and whatever other thing his fried brain could think of. with only a short note, he left behind the life he knew.
Luigi ran away.
he didn't care to notice which way he went as he ran, all he wanted at that moment is to run as far away as possible and for as long as he could. he had to get away, no matter where the road took him. the road he had taken, however, was the one leading straight to the koopa kingdom; his brain having defaulted to the only familiar route it knew in the darkness.
and so the plumber found himself disheveled and dirty as he faced the koopa capital, having spent a night or two on unfamiliar roads with nightmares to boot. his eyes were bloodshot, dark circles under his eyes, and his body all kinds of exhausted.
he spent a few more nights camping just outside the town, during the day trying to get any odd job that would pay. he needed the money to afford a temporary stay and food, as his rations were depleting at a quicker rate than expected. it was hard to find those odd jobs, however, as no one seemed willing to trust a disheveled, dirty, unknown human who only appeared days ago. fair, he thought, not being able to really bring himself to care.
soldiers patrolling the border of the capital caught sight of him, and, after realizing he posed no threat, took pity on him. they brought him to the castle for an audience with the king, hoping that he may give this human a second chance at life that he so clearly needed.
when Luigi saw Bowser, he felt that familiar fear creep in. it lasted only for a single moment, as his brain decided to harshly remind him that Bowser was Mario's enemy, not his. and he couldn't take the Peach justification as he had left her behind without a second thought as well. so why should he care? it made no difference after all.
the plumber spoke to the king with utmost politeness, yet the numbness was easily recognizable by anyone who saw him. when Bowser, who evidently didn't see or remember him from the last rescue, questioned him, Luigi said he had nowhere to return to, no home to call his; that he was a plumber by trade looking for work anywhere it was available. Bowser offered him a deal: become the official castle plumber (and pick up some other skills along the way to be useful), and in exchange he would be given a staff bedroom and be fed 3 meals a day. Luigi accepted.
the first few weeks passed with no issue. the plumber did his work quietly and efficiently, staying respectful to any other caste staff and nodding to the King when they passed each other. one night, however, King Bowser found the plumber staring out at the rivers of lava in the dead of night, tears rolling down his cheeks and sniffling. when the koopa approached him, Luigi went back to that neutrality/apathy that Bowser was used to seeing from him; but their conversation, brief and guarded, brought out a tiny shred of understanding for the other. there was more to the man in green than the koopa had thought, and now he felt interest in getting to know him. Luigi, in turn, realized that Bowser may not be as monstrous or power hungry as he had heard before. the smallest of olive branches had been extended.
over the coming time, Bowser would be the one to make an effort for friendship/companionship. he would slowly start breaking down the walls that Luigi had built to protect himself from the world and his own thoughts. the process required a lot of patience, something Bowser struggles with, but seeing how Luigi treats him so normally, as if he were any other person and not a monster made it worth it.
meanwhile, Mario was going crazy in the mushroom kingdom. the first 2 days after their fight he had refused to enter Luigi's room, believing that he was in one of his moods and thats why he didn't respond to Mario's calls for food. by the third morning his anger had faded and worry set in. he knocked on his brother's door, gently calling to him that he wants to talk and apologize, and to come out and eat. when he received no reply, he opened the door himself to see the room empty, no sign of Luigi, his essentials packed and bed made. his blood ran cold as the realization swept in that his brother had run away.
in a panic, he ran to Peach's castle. when he found her, he barely got the words out of Luigi's disappearance before he had a panic attack, his head filling with self-loathing thoughts. he's not aware as he's taken to the infirmary and seen by the castle's doctor, and it takes him a while to come back down again. Peach is by his side the entire time, teary-eyed, as she watched over Mario and prayed for Luigi's safety.
for the first time in their lives, the brothers have been completely separated from one another. Mario spent his days in grief, staying in the castle, trying to break out every night to go find Luigi himself. Peach increased security around the castle, holding him back, saying that Mario would make no progress in the state he was in. she sent out several scout groups to search the entire kingdom for her friend, but the results stayed fruitless.
Luigi and Bowser's friendship deepens in the meantime. slowly but sure his walls start to come down, he showed more emotions, smiling and laughing just the smallest bit as he gets to know Bowser. he also met the King's son, Junior, whom he got along great with. things seemed to be looking up for him; he had found a new home, he was making new friends apart from the King as well, and the townspeople started welcoming him.
then, for the first time in a while, Bowser kidnapped Peach once more.
if truth be told, the day started like any other for Luigi. he was told by Kamek that Bowser was busy with his kingly duties, so he spent the morning helping the kitchen staff prep for lunch and then read a book in the library. by early afternoon, Junior had come looking for him to play a while, and after that Luigi went into the city for a small job or two, exchanging pleasantries with the citizens of the capital. by the time he was back in the castle, the day was over and the prince was asleep. he came across the King by complete accident, greeting him as he usually did when both he and Bowser froze at the heartbreaking cry of Luigi's name.
hesitantly looking up at the cage he hadn't seen before, he saw a person he thought he'd never see again. in that cage stood Peach, holding on tightly to the bars as she cried. Luigi's small whisper of Peachie...? told Bowser all he needed to know in that moment. when the plumber started walking towards the cage, picking up speed with every step and reaching for it, Bowser quietly opened and lowered the cage. he watched in shock and surprise as the Princess threw herself at the plumber, sobbing, and told him how worried she was about him, how glad she was that he was safe. it took him a moment to react, but when he did, Luigi broke down completely in her arms, both sinking to the ground in their embrace.
Kamek ended up leading them all to the study to talk it out. Luigi had clammed up again, refusing to talk to Bowser or Peach. Bowser put a gentle hand to Luigi's back; when he hesitantly looked up at the koopa, he saw no sign of betrayal, or hurt. just gentle concern, and a quiet promise of i'm here. he explained to them both the fight he had with Mario, how he had come to the koopa kingdom and how he found his place here. all Peach cared to know was if he was safe and happy. Luigi's affirmation of that had Bowser happier than he wanted to admit. out of that conversation also came the reason Bowser was kidnapping the princess in the first place; that being resources. the vulnerability of that conversation and Luigi's question of helping the koopa kingdom has Peach and Bowser agreeing to start peace negotiations.
as always, Mario came to rescue Peach. upon Luigi's insistence, she didn't tell Mario that his brother was there, and she did her best to try and get Luigi's perspective through his head - hoping that eventually the brothers could meet again and work out their issues. for now, she could only see her dear friend when negotiations were happening.
on the koopa end of things, that vulnerability from the conversation with peach paved the way for a deeper relationship between Bowser and Luigi. things developed slowly between them, as the plumber would need time before he can truly trust again, but the affection and the intentions were there. they were both happy to explore this new dynamic at a slow pace, both wanting to do right by the other. very fluffy.
when Luigi felt ready for it, he asked Daisy to tell his brother that he was well. he didn't want to reveal his location, or say anything else; but he was starting to heal, and a part of him missed his brother dearly, and so he figured letting him know hey, i'm okay, and when i'm ready for it i'll see you again was alright. when Daisy delivered the message per phone call, Mario was frantic to know more, but Peach and Daisy both talked him down. Mario was slowly starting to accept that he had to go at Luigi's pace, let him make his own decisions. it pained him, but he agreed. he told Daisy to tell Luigi that he was glad he was well, and that he would wait.
the response from his brother had Luigi in shambles for a day, one part happy that his brother was finally coming around and the other furious that it took him running away for it to happen. Bowser stayed beside him throughout that day, offering his comfort to his sweetheart.
and so, the years started passing. peace was signed between the two kingdoms, and small steps were taken every once in a while by the brothers to slowly repair their relationship. it started with the passing of messages through Daisy, and it would turn into letters updating the other on their lives. Mario told Luigi that he was with Peach, and in turn Luigi was honest about his relationship with Bowser (that one took Mario a while to process, but he was learning to let go of that need for control; Luigi told him he was happy and that's all that mattered).
the first time they meet in person again is a few years after their fight and the peace treaty. Peach and Mario made their way to the koopa kingdom on Luigi's invitation, and the reunion in the throne room was tense at first. Peach and Bowser both kept watch over the brothers, ready to step in at any moment.
the brothers themselves were frozen in place, staring at one another. it felt so foreign to stand in front of each other, after years apart and limited communication. Mario took the first steps, placing a hesitant hand to Luigi's cheek. when he responded to the soft call of his name, both brothers hugged each other tightly, crying openly and loudly. over the two days that he and Peach were in the koopa kingdom, that is all Mario and Luigi did - no words were exchanged between them, but they did not let go of the other, catching up on the lost affection.
it would take many more years for their relationship to become "normal" again. many arguments, periods of no contact, and apologies. they were both healing from a lifetime of hurt at their own paces, but ultimately they both made the effort to repair their relationship. when Mario and Peach married, Luigi was there as best man, and the same was said for Luigi and Bowser's wedding. Junior would eventually come to adore his uncle Mario, and his children would enjoy many vacations in the koopa kingdom with uncle Luigi. they both chose different paths for themselves, but what mattered most was that they both chose a path of love and healing, one that they could walk together in time.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - -
so that's it i guess. now that i've written it out, this turned into a whole ass fic idea when that wasn't the case originally, CLEARLY i don't know how to be concise. oh well.
if anyone wants to pick this up, feel free! just let me know if you do something with it because i wanna see the results of it :D

So, if you follow my Bionicle Fic, A Company of toa, you're probably wondering:
Why haven't you posted anything since may?! It's been four months! What on Mata Nui's own island is going on?
Well.
Here's your answer:
I'm a Homeowner now!
Long story short, inherited* a fixer upper, and I've been busting my tailbone getting it to where I can move in and live there (it still needs a lot of fixing and a not inconsiderable amount of upping)
BUT
I'm finally in a place where I can actually settle in somewhat? I didn't want to really say anything until I was pretty sure I wasn't going to have the rug pulled from under me.
I'm hoping that I can pick back up with writing on a semi regular basis now that things are stable and I'm not having to do things like replace all the plumbing valves in the master bathroom (thank god for plumber youtube)
So, yeah!! See you all soon!

Do Catch Up
The advice from Sankta Neyar echoes in Jesper's head after the whole world saving goes down. He's been in the company of grisha before, but never so many at once and maybe it's the place to start
David, the greatest Fabrikator at the Little Palace, isn't alive to help give him any pointers. From what Jesper's heard of him, they would've been polar opposites but it's a shame he didn't get the chance to see how they would get along
Tolya's advice is very poetic but Jesper's never 'plumbed his inner depths' or anything of the sort except with company and some drinks so that's not a big help either. Maybe their small sciences or whatever are just too far apart
Nina offers him half of the pastry she's eating—between her and Tolya what is it with corporalki and their bottomless stomachs—and her commiseration. She hated the Little Palace's stifling rules and gross patriotism, but a good teacher is a life-saver when it comes to coming into your own.
Maybe what he needs are materials, like the name of the materialki order suggests, and he just so happens to know who has a bunch of those.
"You want to 'play with my stuff'?" Wylan hugs his backpack to his chest, protective of the powders or Jesper, Jesper can't quite tell. "After you were the one that made a point about most demomen having less fingers because of exactly that?"
"But I'd have a very capable teacher standing by to warn me about what not to do!" Jesper says, running his hands down Wylan's arms, with his most winning smile on full blast. He's a master at taking chances. And losing on them, but what better good luck charm than the cutest demoman in the world?
"What would you want to make? Or do? What's the proper term for..." Wylan's caving, Jesper can hear it in his softening interrogation, but the questions makes him reconsider. What does he want to do? Or make? Neshyenyar surfaces in his memory, but neither is he at that level nor is he interested in a sword. Who would use it? Certainly not him, and as much as there's not a weapon Inej can't wield, he knows where her preferences lie. And why look elsewhere?
"Never mind, I'll leave the game of Ravkan Roulette for another time." Relief fills Wylan's face, but Jesper doesn't miss the shy glance down at his clinking backpack. "But I'd love to watch a master at work instead. Now, I need to go steal something from a Wraith. Wish me luck!"
Inej gives him one of her knives with less persuasion than Jesper had expected to have to expend, all that unused charm will just have to wait around for the next opportunity.
"I was planning to leave one with you when I left; you're welcome to pick which one you'd prefer," she says, her smile an apology and appeasement in one. His heart stings with the impending loss, knowing every shadow is empty made the night very dark indeed. She doesn't need to show him her knives, he's seen them all before, between her fingers, between the gaps in a guard's armor, and he knows which one he'd pick.
Maybe Tolya was right about the inner depths bit, he's never felt such a bone-deep exhaustion before and he never even moved from the chair or left the table. What he thought he knew of his blessing was being tested in so many different ways; this wasn't putting a piece back in place, or moving something that he'd always felt was a part of himself. How did he make it do what he wanted when he was an ocean away and out of his reach? How could he make it flexible and yet sturdy, adaptable but always what was needed in the moment?
How could he give it just the tiniest bit of life?
A pair of hands circles his shoulders, drawing him out of his daze with a start. He can feel Wylan's cheek pressed against his ear, a grounding weight that pulls him from the immeasurable depths that he still needs to plumb. His mind feels heavy from twisting itself into so many different shapes and he swears he can taste molecules now. More than he normally can anyway, more than would be normal, and his fingers ache from kneading metal for hours.
"Is it done?" Wylan's soft voice is a balm on his bruised brain. He nods, head flopping back on Wylan's shoulder in a pointed gesture of being so done, if not done.
"What about the kiss?" Wylan asks, and Jesper hums in apology and finds Wylan's lips with his eyes still closed, because he could be blind and still know his way to them.
"Mm—" a noise of surprise from Wylan, as if Jesper would ever deny him a kiss "—I love it but I meant the kiss for your work?"
Jesper opens his eyes, wondering if he's spent so long down in those depths that he broke his ears. "What?"
"The—the kiss..." Wylan stammers, his hands waving about in search of words as he finally gestures at the knife Jesper's been tying himself in knots for this past week. "Your guns."
"My guns?" Jesper repeats, at last finding some purchase in something that he understands intricately.
"You...I've seen you...When you kiss your guns..." It's endearing, it really is, to see Wylan getting more and more flustered the longer Jesper stares at him in incomprehension, but at some point the bearing does drop and the spark of understanding flares.
"That's just for good luck, though really I don't need—"
"—need luck for those because they're a part of you. But a kiss can go a long way, everything needs a little show of love sometimes." Ducking his head, Wylan tries to hide the smile but Jesper's never missed it and he's not about to start now.
"Once I'm done giving it a kiss, I'm giving you a little show of love, just you wait," he promises, grabbing the knife and considering the best way to both keep his oh-so-silver tongue intact and still plant a solid Jesper-trademarked smooch on it.
It's a quick kiss, the metal cold on his mouth, but in the instant that it lasts, he knows it worked. And the knife knows it worked, it knows what to do and when to do it, and it knows how important it is to do it right. Jesper lays it down gently on the leather he wants to wrap it in tomorrow, before Inej sets off, and leaves to let Wylan know just what a great idea that was and how smart he was for figuring it out.
Inej unwraps her knife with a confused look, and before it can turn to hurt, Jesper butts in, "I know you meant to leave it with me, but have you seen me handle a knife? Trust me, it's a menace, and not in a good way. Best for all of us if it stays with you, but I gave it a little something special to remind you of me while you're off flying the skies or sailing the sea. Lots of places to lose a knife out there where the ground is far away..."
She turns the dagger, a karambit by her words, quizzically. "I don't see any bedazzled jewels on here, Jesper."
"I can respect a style when I see one, don't worry. Give it a good throw," he suggests, gesturing to the ship despite Nikolai's groan of protest about his rigging.
"Is it the weight?" Inej asks, tossing the knife a few times playfully before it slams into the side of an old chest at the prow of the ship, Jesper can hardly see it between the maze of ropes and sailcloth.
"It did cross my mind, but I expect you had it made the way you like it and I don't mess with a perfect system like that." He shakes his head before waving towards the long-gone knife with a flourish. "Call it back."
"I can't just—" Inej mimes yanking back on a fishing rod, but her face splits into a surprised gasp when the knife appears in her grip with just that much ease. "Jes, how did you...?"
"Just trying to act my age," Jesper says with a bow, side-eyeing the trail of torn sails and fraying ropes the knife left behind in its wake. "Um, one last present from me, you can lay all the blame for that damage on me. Don't forget me on your wide travels."
"As if I ever could." Inej laughs, the sadness of parting flecked with a glee Jesper knows she reserves for a new pair of knives. Slowly but surely, he'll catch up. And he'll have a good teacher, or more fellow experimenter, along for the ride.

⌝. Construction was everywhere as Bellamy opened the door to Jean-Claude. The exterior of the estate was being slowly painted black and the interior was having certain walls moved, plumbing redone, the kitchen entirely needed fixing because it was obviously made to not actually be used and Bellamy most certainly would. There were a few rooms already completed, that had taken priority, including her bedroom and her closet, Rosita's room and the master bathroom because Bellamy needed to be able to bathe in the sunlight, even if none of her neighbours could look at how gorgeous she was any longer.
⌝ "Hey there, old timer," Bellamy smiled, gems in various shades around her throat as brown hair cascaded down her shoulders and complemented the pure white of her dress. She'd been wearing it earlier in the day for her lunch with Juan Diego, as he had won her cookies at the charity auction, and figured she would leave it on until JC got there and they could pick through her closet together. It wasn't just her look that had changed though, as she went in for a hug her scent had also matured. The vanilla and caramel scent she had been wearing for years was now elevated. Valentin had purchased her a perfume by the company that did his own, he had kept the notes of vanilla but found a scent that instead complemented it with iris, rose and violet.

⌝ "Look who finally has an actual home again," she joked because Bella had left her townhouse so long ago and while she had been staying with Nicky it had never been solidified as her home because he'd never got around to telling his family. It probably didn't look good for a doctor to be dating a vampire, who knew? Regardless she had a place she could claim as hers once again and that felt nice.
