I just went through and reread one of my favorite webcomics and realized it's been quite some time since I've drawn fanart for it.
It's not much, but here's a quick sketch of Thistle from Daughter of the Lilies
@bludragongal as always, I love this story, love this character, hope you like!

I was waiting for permission from the author before I shared, but it's done! This is a fan binding of @bludragongal 's comic BLANK, as I've always wanted my own physical copy, and I had the .pdfs. I definitely messed up on the paste-downs (curse my impatience) but this was my first time using a proper text-block and not just blank pages. I am really happy with the cover, the title was painted in acrylic with a stencil, and I made my own bookcloth to cover the whole thing! I also realized after I put it on the shelf I did the spine text the wrong way. Ah well. If you want to check out Meg's work (which I definitely recommend), you can read her webcomic over here: https://www.daughterofthelilies.com/
It's really cool! She has a physical book for that one, and it's GORGEOUS.
Below I have some process pics!

A brief Daughter of the Lilies fancomic, inspired by this fancomic of Tiger Tiger. DotL is made by Meg Syv, Tigers by Petra Nordlund; go check them out if you haven't already, both are delightfully gay and very good.
The rest of this comic is under the cut.

Amerzone: The Explorer's Legacy - Anmeldelse

Following the post on basic pronouns stuff:
basic verbs in Norwegian
so I'll tackle primarily glossary, but also some grammar. I'll limit this post to Booklanguage (bokmål) though, because conjugations are very different and I'm pretty unconfident in my newnorwegian verbs.
I'll add a link here to a few of the Norwegian dictionaries so you can look stuff up yourself: ordbøkene (Norwegian only), Lexin (multilingual (translation), english, Filipino, etc),
Verbs in Norwegian are obviously verbs. Many follow rules and some don't. verbs are conjugated differently in booknorwegian and Newnorwegian and in many dialects it's different to both. I can give you examples of dialect conjugates through song later. Verbs are conjugated based on time only, not gender, ordinal number (first/second/third) nor count (plural/singular).
I'll be using Norwegian terms because I don't know when they do or don't correspond
For future tense that's usually adding the verb "skal" (will / shall) or "kommer til" (same meaning) before the Infinitum. none of the dictionaries include that so I won't either.
Remember that when I include prepositions (to / in / at / for) that they don't translate consistently!!
To be: å være (Infinitum / infinity), conjugations -> er (presens) / var (preteritum / past) / har vært (preteritum perfektum / past) / vær (imperativ).
examples:
Jeg er aseksuell -> I'm asexual
Du var venner med dem -> you were friends with them / you were their friend
Jeg har vært her i mange år -> I have been here for many years.
Dere var her før vi kom -> y'all were here before we arrived.
To have: å ha -> har (presens) / hadde (preteritum) / har hatt (preteritum perfektum)
examples:
Jeg har en gitar -> I have a guitar
Du hadde vondt -> you were hurting / you had pain
Jeg har hatt mange fine frisyrer opp gjennom årene -> I've had many pretty hairstyles throughout the years
To get: å få -> får (presens) / fikk (preteritum) / har fått (preteritum perfektum)
examples:
Hen får penger fra moren sin -> they get money from their mother / they will get money from their mother
Fikk du godteri? -> Did you get candy?
Jeg har fått meg en ny hatt -> I have gotten myself a new hat
To eat: Å spise -> spiser / spiste / har spist
examples:
Jeg spiser middag -> I'm eating dinner
Han spiser alltid middag klokken syv om kvelden -> He always eats dinner at 7 PM (7 in the evening)
Jeg spiste skiver til frokost -> I ate sliced bread for breakfast. (literally: slices)
Jeg har allerede spist -> I've eaten already
To go / walk: å gå -> går / gikk / har gått
examples:
Jeg går hjem nå -> I'm going home now
Du gikk på biblioteket -> you went to the library
De har gått fortere enn meg i alle år -> They have always walked faster than me / They have walked faster than me in every year

Hi! First off I jut wanted to say I'm a huge fan of your work. Your art inspires me so much and I love all of the fanfics you've written. Especially pieces of you. Anyways, I was wondering if you have any tips for beginners. Anatomy wise I mean. I'm not very good at Anatomy and was wondering if you had any tips? That's all. Keep up the great work!
thanks so much!!
man i love talking about learning How To Art, lets get to it *breaks my knuckles*
I did a quick tik tok a hot minute ago rambling on my process with figures:
I am trying to narrow down my thoughts and i think that overall, human anatomy is easiest to grasp by starting simple, then narrowing your focus.
as i mentioned in the above tik tok, simplification of shapes can really help, as well as memorizing general proportions of the body. even if you cannot draw the specific detail of, say, the musculature of a neck, or every single finger joint, if the structure is there and is generally in the right place, it will be far more helpful.
my favorite phrase in regards to developing skills and then style is, "you need to learn the rules before you can break them."
Observation and reference is super important, especially with something as complex as the human form. Frequently refer back to real people, pictures, references.
(If you are able to, I recommend trying to attend sessions with live models. If you can't there's lots of websites that give a similar structure to those sessions, but with photos instead (most sites give an option to exclude nude pictures as well which can be nice). (here's one i found by googling "figure drawing")
To practice simplified anatomy, i would probably recommend gesture drawing, just very quick and loose doodles from reference (with the above type of website, 60 seconds a pose or less!) to help get an idea of your basic shapes and proportions. (Some examples below!!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reference is very much your friend. if you do have a specific pose in mind, ask a friend to pose for a picture, or take one of you! (or be like me and use a webcam, because you've already got a tripod for it, why not)
Tumblr media
(tracing from photos can also be a good way to learn! though it is important to remember that it should be used as a LEARNING TOOL, not as a means to produce a final piece of artwork.)
my final note for this long ass ramble is that, often times people will pass along tutorials from other artists. HOARD THESE. so many people have really good tips for shortcuts, or how they think about things! (for example, this artist, Meg Syv, is someone whose work i really admire, PLUS she retweets a lot of tutorials as well as posts lots of WIP work, which gives some insight into her process!) (i think she's been coming back to Tumblr as well, @/bludragongal ) okay i think that's all i can word vomit for the moment. TLDR: Observe and Reference from Life, Simplified > Complex, Create a dragon hoard of tips and tutorials that other kind people post online. HOPE THIS HELPS!! All the well wishes for your art journey!

Whew boy! Been some time since I’ve drawn fanart for Daughter of the Lilies (fully colored) but here’s some now! Mayhaps one day I’ll do something with a background, but we all know that will not happen soon.
I love Lyra and I love Thistle a whole lot and their interactions in the comic are some of my favorites.

Dimitra and the Silver Mask, Part 1: Page 58
It’s the final countdown, 9 pages to go!
As for the long delay getting this page out the door, I’m sorry about that. It was one of the more challenging pages I’ve had to draw, in a comic that seems to be made up of nothing BUT challenging pages, a feature owing slightly more to my poor planning than it does to my almost crippling desire to hear people say things like: “wow man, that sure must have taken you a long time”, but it’s a narrow margin.
The second issue that came up on this page is, tragically, after a long hiatus I’m back to work. That is: I’m back to taking on storyboarding jobs regularly, at least when they pop up. My amazing wife, Meg Syv (of Daughter of the Lilies fame), has kindly been holding down the fort for us while I’ve struggled to figure out exactly what I’m doing with this comic and how I plan to move forward with it (I’ve been doing a lot of behind-the-scenes work, I swear!), but the time has come for me to get back to it. The unfortunate thing about that is I do have to get used to juggling comic and work again, and trying to do so in such a way as I don’t burn myself out entirely. It’s a delicate equilibrium to maintain, and if I know anything about myself, I’m often going to fall short. This was one such time. Apologies.
There are a few more action packed pages to go in this chapter, but I’m going to do my best to keep them coming semi-regularly! Thanks for reading!

Week 1: Daughter of the Lilies
Tumblr media
The cover art of book one!
This week I am going to take a look at Daughter of the Lilies by Meg Syverud. But before I break into the weekly analysis, I must first break some great news and some not-so-great news. Unfortunately, while I was in the middle of creating this post, Meg announced a hiatus for Daughter of the Lilies. The comic will return in October of 2022. On the flipside, Meg will be working as an animator at Disney during that time. Congratulations Meg!
Now, onto the analysis!
Tumblr media
An example of Lyra’s cleverly censored, prolific swearing
Daughter of the Lilies is a story about a masked mage on the run with only a fake name to call her own: Thistle. The anonymous mage ends up finding a place in a small band of mercenaries, featuring Orrig the full-orc resolute leader, Brent the ¼ orc shy muscle man, and Lyra the fiery elven ranger. The webcomic is currently ongoing (despite an upcoming year-long break) that began on October 24th of 2013, reaching ten chapters as of the writing of this post. DoTL has an age rating of PG-13 as it depicts detailed gore, violent actions, barely censored cursing (in quite amusing ways, I might add), abuse, implied sexual content, and fantasy racism (orcs bad kind of fantasy racism). It has specifically focuses on mental health issues such as depression and anxiety.
Tumblr media
A Drath holding a man hostage within his own mind.
I think what makes this comic a contemporary classic is the mental health issues it focuses on. The majority of the stories that we hail as classics today focus on social issues that were important at the of story’s time of conception, ranging from the Iliad's discussion of the great losses wars create to the criticisms of the status and affordances granted by wealth in The Great Gatsby. With the currently increasing trend of mental health discussion, I believe Daughter of the Lilies encapsulates a dialogue that many modern-day people wish to partake in: just how insidiously invasive anxiety and depression can be. DoTL handles this in a wonderfully charming way, both by showing the reality of anxiety in how it harms Thistle’s sense of self and confidence to the symbolic fight against the Drath, otherworldly creatures that corrupt living beings by feeding into their self-doubts and insecurities.
Tumblr media
Thistle finding hope amidst her doubts.
My favorite aspect of the comic is the manner in which the characters are handled. Characters, mostly Thistle and occasionally Brent, are shown to deal with the negative emotions that anxiety creates but are not depicted as helpless because of it. Instead, they are shown to be dealing with difficult burdens that make tasks much harder, but do not render them incapable. Their struggle is relatable and admirable, as they are able to push through the doubts that anxiety causes in order to do what is most important at that moment: saving the day. However, their victories do not extinguish their doubts and anxieties. They are shown to still exist, wrong however they might be. Mental health issues don’t disappear as soon as someone acts in a manner to improve upon them. They take time to heal (even with help) and to pretend that they need a one-time band aid is a disservice to everyone who deals with them. Meg Syv expresses this sentiment wonderfully.
Tumblr media
Bonus points for Orrig, the wonderful Orc pseudo-father that he is.
If you like stories that deal with themes of self-love, found family, and self-improvement, then Daughter of the Lilies for you. I also have to add, the art is absolutely stunning. I mean, look at this rotting deer carcass!
Tumblr media
Give the comic a look and a couple of reads!
