#Megaman: For Everlasting Peace
nebula-gray · 4 hours
Text
i truly believe that soulnet is the battle network concept of all time. it takes the series' themes of friendship and worldwide connection to their extreme -- a world in which human souls themselves are connected to the internet, where humanity achieves peace by feeling the emotions of others and empathizing. but they are also aware of the problems inherent to such a system, where one bad actor could ruin everyone, which is why tadashi and wily decided to shelve it in the first place.
dr. regal is aware that humanity is not actually fully evil, or else he would not need nebula gray. if the majority were evil, simply connecting everyone would allow evil to thrive. but in a way soulnet is the reason megaman is able to overcome nebula gray at all -- he can feel the emotions of all of his friends on top of lan encouraging him. overloading the system with negative emotions can be impactful, but so can overloading the system with hope and love.
in a way, i think that a lot of other battle network concepts tie into soulnet. full synchro is souls uniting between a navi and operator. soul unison is the souls of two navis uniting. with soulnet, it's everyone. we are all connected.
it's an interesting topic that i think leaves a lot of room for exploration. how does this affect the concept of the individual? how much does it affect behavior? to what extent does it control the lives of everyone? is everlasting peace ever truly possible? it's a lot to think about and i've never seen anybody really talk about it in-depth.
i understand that this is rambly but i hope that i've gotten people to think about it a little more. soulnet is so dear to me and i want people to see the potential behind it. i am always open for discussion if anyone has anything to add

Megaman Battle Network: Staying Connected
In 2001, Capcom released Battle Network Rockman.exe, localised as Megaman Battle Network, for the Gameboy Advance as a launch title. Unlike Classic and X, it was not a platformer but rather a action rpg with card game elements. And also unlike its predecssors, it did not revolve around robots co existing physically in the real world but instead "NetNavis" a form of artificial intelligence that could interact with the internet. In this world, everything is connected by the internet, and this has caused a rise in the quality of living across the world. However, there are of course those who misuse the internet for criminal acts and also errors that cause harm thus people as children are educated how to combat people acting in bad faith and errors.
Already this presents a interesting evolution of Megaman, prior series covered varying motifs from "everlasting peace" to "connection" as demonstrated in the image below and discussed in the previous post.
Tumblr media
Battle Network already leans in more to emphasising connection. The world is connected together and because we are connected we are able to achieve greater things working as a group. This is also inherent in the conflict. Netnavis are not oppressed to the extent the reploids or even robot masters were, the fault simply lies in the humans who misuse them to commit bad deeds. By contrast, the heroes are exemplars of society, they are children but have healthy relationships with the internet and their navis. Megaman.exe and Lan Hikari are quite literally in a sense, brothers.
Tumblr media
This iteration of Megaman firmly embodies the sense of connection the internet provides. The previous three iterations of Megaman were lighter coloured and bulky in proportion to emphasise their robotic nature. Megaman.exe, however, is slim and smooth, the darker parts of his body are emphasised more than the lighter parts. Additionally, this design also incorporates yellow to give visibility to the key features of the design. This Megaman surfs the net finding answers for homework and destroying viruses - not fellow robots.
Megaman also relies on Lan to provide him with the chips he needs to fight - and Lan relies on Megaman to solve problems in the real and as companionship. They not only both need each other to self-actualise but also the people they come into contact with. Later games in the Battle Network series adapt the copy ability the original Megaman and X had, exe can commune with the souls of fellow netnavis and gain their abilities with their appearance merged into his own. The player is encouraged to be competent and connected enough with the features to build a deck to fully realize Megaman's new Cross/Soul abilities. Other series features such as dark chips, navicust and forms serve to help the player connect with Megaman too. Being too reckless and overpowering Megaman might permanently destroy his stats or cause bugs. Through these balances, the player is encouraged to actively engage with gameplay and plan to maintain Megaman at optimal performance.
Another unique aspect of Battle Network is that it ironically reimagines most of the Classic series (and some X/Legends characters the developers were fond of) and reinterprets them. Protoman/Blues.exe is more proactive than the original Protoman/Blues, by his interactions with Lan and Megaman, Protoman and his operator become more open and friendly to others, strengthening their bond as well. Roll.exe still serves as moral support. Bass/Forte.exe is now a more dangerous rival who serves as a moral story for what happens when humans mistreat their navis. Being blamed for a crisis he did not commit, Bass.exe was hunted by all of net society and cast into self-exile. He despises humanity and his creator because they were unable to connect or care for him and in turn he lost his connection to humanity. Colonel.exe, based off an X series character that died for showing an will for a ideal, ends up self-actualising away from internalising his operator projecting feelings of apathy onto him, and ends up opening the series antagonists heart because he decides to help by his own will, not because he was made to.
This series version of Dr. Wily is perhaps the second strongest example of the theme of connection. Unlike the Classic Wily who was a goofy but still credibly threatening antagonist, this iteration of Wily gives the appearance of a warped individual. Claiming he has cast aside all his humanity and feelings over society's treatment of him, Wily has resorted to controlling humanity by use of the internet. As the series goes on, we see that Wily's claim isn't entirely true, he intervenes when his son tries to cause humans to become bitter and ultimately finds himself feeling despair and emptiness over Colonel and Iris dying. It is then he realizes that humans need connection with one another to thrive and atones for his past crimes by improving the internet.
Tumblr media
Even characters original to Battle Network have plenty to say. The antagonist of Battle Network 2 is an abused orphan who faked an identity online to gain friends and connect openly to others. It is only through connecting with Lan and co, he is able to reconnect with the world at large and no longer become lonely. Other games include a sick boy who Lan connects with to gain back his will to live, a netnavi manifesting in the real world who grows to learn affection and many other characters. Further showing how Battle Network is a evolution of Megaman both in gameplay and worldview.
Tumblr media
Like all things created by a company, however, these ideas are watered down by changing priorities whether to ensure brand synergy, profit or new people coming in and not getting it.
Battle Network 4 is the turning point for the series that the remaining two games are tainted by, the combat is better and adds new features that enrich itself but falls flat in many aspects. The worldview is relatively far more childish than the prior three games, the antagonists have no unique sense or connection to the internet bordering on laughably generic and there is no unique statement about the internet's place in the world or Lan and Megaman. This follows through to the next game with Battle Network 6 picking up the pieces for the finale. The damage was already done though, and subsequent games after 4's release ruined the already sinking reputation of not just Battle Network but of Megaman as a whole.
Regardless of these flaws from the latter half, Megaman Battle Network is still demonstrably an natural evolution of what Megaman started off as and stayed true to the roots of the franchise. It tells of technology as a force not of good or bad but inheriting the will of its operator and how human bonds and connection can persevere through almost anything if strong enough. Most of all, Battle Network's success was due to understanding what the market of the time wanted. It was not cashing in as much as it showed an awareness of the current climate. I feel like this is particularly important in what Megaman has become since the late 2000s. Fans clamour for a continuation of pre-existing branches when the people behind them are no longer around or willing to continue on. And the continutations are bland sequels with nothing new to express or fucking gacha. Ironically, the wishes of both the fanbase and of Capcom are antithetical to what Megaman is: A series that has been able to steadily evolve. Megaman remains stagnant and dead because of this.
Yes, it is true Capcom needs another another Battle Network, but I'm not talking about Battle Network 7... I'm talking about a completely new Megaman, one that has something to say about itself, one that shows an awareness of the current audience. Something that can evolve.

Top 5 incarnations of Mega Man (Classic, X, Legends, Battle Network, Star Force)
5) and 4): BN and SF. Sorry, I don't know them at all 😅
3) X. Sadly he's a victim of his own series fawning over Zero lol. I'm sure that back in the day the idea of a Megaman being unsure if fighting is the right thing to do was a novelty, but now I don't really feel it much, hell The Megas' songs were more poignant than the whole X series lol. But I will defend him from the accusations that he's nothing than a whiny pacifist, that's not it! I just think his potential went untapped.
2) Legends. He's fun! I haven't indulged in the games' morality system much, but I like that he can be a little rascal. Also holy shit that backstory--
1) Classic. You know what? Sometimes simple is good. Sometimes a cleaning robot kid who chooses to fight for everlasting peace is compelling enough. He's cute and brave and he won't stand for Wily's shit <3

Hello, world!
Welcome to the (tentatively-titled) X Cathedra Tabletop RPG Dev Blog.
We are a small pair of independent developers that have been working on, as per the name, a tabletop RPG system taking after the Megaman series--particularly Megaman Classic and Megaman X.
Temporarily code-named X Cathedra (trust us, the official name sounds much cooler), the system is a d6-based roll-over skill-modifier system. X Cathedra emphasizes fast tactical play, flexible character creation, and narrative freedom in how players can approach problems.
The system has been in development for the past two years (since 2019-2020!), and there’s still several things that need to be worked on before official release. But testing has gone on for a while, and now we’re starting to reach a comfortable point where the game can be talked about in public.
On this dev blog, you'll receive news and updates about the system, we’ll talk about development as it goes on, we’ll share bits and pieces that are ready to be shown publicly, we’ll express opinions on styles of play that we’re trying to emulate, we’ll talk about our inspirations for the aspects of the system, and more.
While both of us have been involved in the independent creative scene for a long time (one of us is a gamedev, the other is an artist/author), neither of us have done a tabletop RPG from scratch before...this trek is going to be a new journey for all of us. But it’s a journey we’re willing to take, and it’s a journey that we hope you all have fun on.
Fight! For everlasting peace!

「Rocket Queen feat. MCU」 by TEAM SHACHI on YouTube
As a Mega Man fan, I feel like I should raise awareness of this semi-official crossover game since it's, apparently, disappearing after August 31st. –
The year is 20XX…
The world is at peace and Dr. Light's robots are all old and retired.  While at a local Team Shachi concert, suddenly… a horrible imagine appears on the screen!  An artificial intelligence modeled after Dr. Wily announces one last bid for world domination!  To make things worse, the AI infects the retired Megaman with a virus that makes him evil, and he either powers or operates an evil, giant mech in his likeness!  The world is doomed!  At least, it seems that way.
As soon as the Wily AI leaves, an AI in the form of Dr. Light comes in.  Having a strong sense of justice, Team Shachi makes a plan.  They volenteer themselves to fight against the Dr. Wily AI, and so a reluctant Dr. Light AI puts them under the same process the real Dr. Light used on his lab assistant so many years ago.  With that, team Shachi goes from being a pop idol group… to a quartet of super hero cyborgs!  But, they're not alone!  The Brass People, their always-loyal brass band, is right behind them, ready to blast out with an inspiring cacophony of accompanying horns!
Can Team Shachi stop the Wily AI?  Will justice prevail, or will evil stop it in its tracks?  What dos any of this have to do with dolphins and chicken wings…?  Find out the answers t all this and more in… Rockman 20XX: Fight! TEAM SHACHI!! –
Rockman 20XX: Fight! TEAM SHACHI is a game where the player controls Team Shachi, a female idol group from Japan, as they go through two auto-scroller levels full of references to the Mega Man series, as well as their "Rocket Queen" single.  All this while the title song, "Rocket Queen", plays in the background, complete with Brass-min popping in for a bit.
It's a lot of fun, but it's a pretty rough game, honestly.  It's meant for mobile devices, but you can also play it in your web browser by going to https://rocketqueen.games/play/.  Just be warned: playing it on desktop is a little odd.
Game Controls (Keyboard) Move: A, S Shoot: J Jump: Space Select Nao (Shachi Buster): Q Select Yuzuki (Shiny Knuckle): W Select Haruna (Chicken Wing Shield): E Select Honoka (Shachi Drone): R
It's kind of a shame that this cute little game will be taken down after August 31st.  I only learned about it maybe a month ago, myself.  But, them's the breaks when it comes to digital-only content, I suppose.
Fight, Team Shachi!  For everlasting peace!!

[x]Headbutt him in that stupid visor Well, fuck this damsel shit. You have places to be! Mostly not anywhere near the mercy of evil jerks with bad fashion sense! You rock your head back and then slam it hard into his stupid biker helmet visor. >Breakman took physical damage! >Breakman rolled...3! HP reduced to 25! The scarfed robot staggers, visor cracking a bit, dropping you on accident as he bites out a swear. You don’t stick around long enough to find out what his temper is like when inconvenienced-- you run as fast as your legs can carry you, rushing back to the airport building past the rest of the baffled robots. >...Switch Characters? Y/N >Y >New Character Parameters Loading...
Your name is Breakman, and you are having a...rather irritating day, to say the least.
You’re not sure what Wily is planning with this airport heist or whatever, and to be perfectly honest, you don’t care. It’s not going to work at this point, and the only thing you’re going to get out of it is a fight with Mega Man. You completely failed to ignore his monologuing, which has taken another bite out of your patience meter.
And you just got headbutted in the face by some strange girl, completely foiling your attempt at doing something somewhat useful to this plan. Your visor is now cracked, and if it wouldn’t be completely against your principles, you’d pull it off.
As it stands, you right yourself and narrow your eyes, trying to decide what to do next.

Happy 34th Mega Man!
Wasn’t sure what to really post this year, so I went with fully scanning this page from the 4th issue of the Archie comic (drawn by Spaz and inked by Gary Martin), as I slowly update all my old phone photos into better scans of these inked pages. It was just a great page, with all of the original Robot Masters appearing, the wholesome handshake and Guts bearhug at the bottom.
Tumblr media
I remember how excited everyone was when the comic first came out, with the promise of Spaz’s great art direction throughout that first arc. As we all wait now for what’s next for the Blue Bomber, hopefully that same sense of awe and optimism can come back within the next year, leading up to the 35th anniversary.
Fight, Megaman! For everlasting peace!

I'm Happy
"How can I be happy... When I destroy everything I've known?"
Megaman had taken his stand against the evil Dr. Wily, volunteering to put an end to his plans and to bring everlasting peace, but at a cost. He wanted to protect everyone...
He HAD to protect everyone.
Battle cries echoed across the city as metal clashed and weapons collided. Citizens fled in terror as chunks of buildings hit the asphalt and sidewalks.
"You'll have to do better than that!" Protoman exlaimed, charging up his next shot. The ends of his scarf were flayed and burnt, similar burns traced the backs of his legs as he had narrowly dodged Bombman's stolen power. Megaman charged forward and raised his buster. The ground began to tremble, causing the robots to lose their footing. The giant drill burst through the middle of the street with defeaning prowess in the middle of the falling debris.
"Protoman, let's go!" Wily screamed from the machine.
"Sorry Mega, guess we'll have to finish this next time." Protoman's snark was quickly cut short as he turned tail and bolted for the Skull Drill. He hopped inside and they quickly retreat as Megaman's blasts followed suit, chipping off chunks of the machine as they fled underground.
"Dr. Light?"
Tumblr media
"Yes, Megaman? Are you okay?"
Mega remained silent for a small time. "Tell me, Dr. Light... Why do I fight?"
Tumblr media
Light froze in his tracks and looked at him. "You fight to bring everlasting peace, to see to it than the world doesn't fall into Wily's hands."
Megaman nodded solemnly and slowly. "But why? Why do I have to destroy everything?" It was as if his legs could no longer support the weight on his shoulders and he collapsed to his knees, tears began welling up in his eyes.
"Sometimes, things just have to be done no matter how rough or painful. I never wanted you to have to take up the smoking gun. Please... Give this old man a smile, it'll be okay." Light gently placed his hand on Megaman's shoulder.
Tumblr media
Megaman stood in front of the mirror. He wiped away the streaks left by his tears and reflected upon his own reflection. He managed a weak sad smile. But it's not enough. He tried to focus on what makes him happy, what brings him joy, like his family. His father, his sister, and his beloved dog, and even Brain Bot, who although he annoyed him beyond his limits, he was still like a brother to him even far away. His smile grew a little more, but it's not enough. He began to feel the tears once more.
All he wants is to see me smile... He does everything he can for me. He loves me as his son. Why can't I smile for his sake?
Megaman looked back up into the mirror. "Why can't I be happy anymore?" His thoughts slowed. "What is happiness...?" He always connected a smile to joy or happiness, always thought that emotions were displayed clearly. But now...
He pressed his index fingers into the corners of his frown. He lifted his mouth into a smile.
Not enough...
He pulled it higher.
Not enough.
He felt the skin begin to stretch.
Not enough!
He wanted to be happy. The smile stretched further
NOT ENOUGH!
Megaman stood alone. Wily had baited him out into the open, his army waiting for the sign to attack, all except for Protoman who couldn't resist the urge to defeat Megaman himself.
"What's wrong, Mega? Don't wanna admit that you've messed up big time?"
No response.
"Are you just gonna stand there and pout or are you going to face me like a bot?" Despite Protoman's arrogance, he felt an unnerving feeling. No matter what, Megaman always said something. He always had some sort of comeback, a comment, an insult, anything... But he never ignored him.
"Mega...?"
Tumblr media
"He told me he wanted to see me smile."
Tumblr media
"He told me it'll be okay."
"I'm Happy."
Tumblr media
"For Him..."
Tumblr media
---------------------------
Happy Spooky Month!
The line "Tell me Doctor Light" and smoking gun are based on the lyrics from The Mega's Lamentations for a war machine.
If you'd like to see the video version which merges the drawings with effects and the song that inspired the title "I'm Happy": https://youtu.be/dCP94vfVupU
The grin is based on my beautiful Ron English Megaman Grin statues and the general skeleton grin he does. Mega's smile is held up by the metal rods on the sides of his cheeks and instead of the skeleton nose of the grin statues I gave him more of a robotic one with sensors for nostrils. The grinning Mega is honestly one of my best drawings.

And lastly, this happened

25, 36, 44 for nosy anons :)
(the asks)
25. My idea of a perfect date a date's about who you spend that date with, sure there's lots of cute things to do when going out: clinging to your date's arm as they show you off because you dressed real pretty for them, shopping around... but just spending time close to eachother, doing nothing but enjoying the other's presence, that can make for just as excelent a date
36. Where I would like to live Somewhere where people who care for me are near, but where i can still access hrt easily
44. A random fact about anything the credits theme for megaman 1 is also the prologue theme for megaman 2, its called "for everlasting peace" megaman zero 1's credits theme is also megaman zero 2's prologue theme, this one's name is "for endless fight" i think its really neat what it tells about each protagonist megaman's a kid, an optimist, he really thought his first adventure would be the last one, that after one battle peace was achieved but zero's adventure takes place 200 years of non-stop war later and he's willing and ready to keep fighting then, in megaman zero 3, after one of the most important moments of closure for the series as a whole (spoilers) the death of X and zero coming to terms with who he was and who he is, the credits theme is "everlasting red" and wow that sure must have tons of meaning as well

After the events of Megaman X8, it was believe that Sigma was gone for good putting an end to the Sigma war but with Reploids turning Maverick still, the fight for everlasting peace still rages on. The same can’t be said about the “colonizing the moon” project, where after the incident with Lumine all producing on the next generation Reploid line has cease due to potential danger within their source code causing advancement in reploid development to move back a couple of years.
A year later, humans decided to lift the ban of rebuilding/repair reploids that have been deem as Maverick to an extend. Reploids that were wrongfully label as mavericks or not were not actually maverick at the time of their death were able to be repair. The Maverick Hunters were thrill by this change especially X and Zero for obvious reasons as their friend Iris from the decommission group Reliforce were able to comeback. However, the same could not be extended to The General, her brother Colonel, or the rest of Reliforce after the coup d'etat, a sort of halfway for X and Zero. With Iris deciding to take up her old navigation duty again with Alia, Pallette, Layer, and Nana from Command Mission. But, there was a catch that not even the Hunters knew about.
The humans has upgraded each female reploid’s system with an artificial womb allowing for female reploids to be pregnant with the next generation reploids as the humans thought it was more beneficial for them to gather the data of the old generation reploids so that they could come out benefits of both the old and the new line of reploids. They would have the old lines design and abilities with their copy chip abilites and unable to be infected with the Sigma Virus, but there’s a catch to that too.
The artificial wombs were created reusing left over remains of Sigma meaning each girl have some traits of the virus within them but luckily it’s not enough to make any of them turn Maverick, but their children, however, is another story. There’s a good 75% chance the baby reploids could have no traits of the virus through birth, but there’s also a good 25% chance the babies could go maverick.
Alia, Pallette, and Iris’s, babies are ok since they were build off the same specs as the “Fatheroid”. X is immune to the affect of the Sigma Virus, Zero was the original carrier of the virus, and Axl’s, being the first of his kind, take full advantage of his copy chip abilities, but the same can’t be said for the other ladyoids especially the possibility of their arch-nemesis making a comeback.

As someone with zero knowledge abt megaman, gaining second hand knowledge abt it surely is an experience. Like what the hell is going on at the cute little robot guy's games
So there was this catastrophic war that wiped out 90% of all Reploids and 60% of all humans...
It's the war behind the whole plot of the subseries where the protagonist looks like this:
Tumblr media
Cutie <3 then he dies to protect the planet from an insane immortal scientist who fused himself with a space colony and was dragging it to Earth to destroy it out of spite <3
And I didn't even mention the Legends series! Lol! Lmao even!
Okay, more seriously. The MM lore is actually pretty dark and complex, with a timeline that spans about 4 centuries and then jumps millennia ahead.
The Classic series is pretty light hearted overall, and what you see is what you get, there's a little blue robot guy who fights other robot guys for everlasting peace.
The X series is slightly darker because it attempts to introduce a greyer morality, most of all seen in how the protagonist doesn't actually like to fight, but feels forced to, which is interesting because he was meant to have complete free will.
The Zero series is much darker, with a bloody war that motivates all characters, on-screen deaths even of important characters, villains that go from the sympathetic to the utterly monstruous, and some truly tear jerking moments.
The ZX series snaps back to the cute anime style - seriously some parts feel very Sailor Moon :P it's almost jarring.
and lastly, the Legends series looks super cute and anime and has a cozy feeling, but the lore, revealed at the end of both games, is downright apocalyptic - the world is almost completely submerged because... something happened!
It's a trip. The Classic games are but the tip of the iceberg :P thankfully, the majority of these games are pretty fun and I would recommend them for the full experience!

MEGA MAN (Rock Light)
First Appearance: The World Spriter's Tournament #1 Comic #1 (Non-Canon) | AkumaTh's Comics #480 (Canon)
Dimension: Prime AkumaVerse
Allegiance: Hero
Rock was a creation alongside Roll made by Dr. Light. He was originally created to be a Lab Assistant to the doctor. But when Dr. Wily decided to steal six Robot Masters to use for World Conquest, Rock volunteered to stop them. Dr. Light upgraded Rock to be a Super Fighting Robot called Mega Man. Equipped with a special buster that is able to copy the ability of another robot master, Mega Man defeated Dr. Wily. Thanks to his continuous adventures, Mega Man inspired many other people to be heroes, including Sonic the Hedgehog. And inspired by his adventures, Capcom created a series of games based on them. Since Mega Man doesn’t like to fight, he keeps the other Robot Master powers in an archive for emergencies.
As the time of warriors arrived, Mega Man was still fighting Dr. Wily. Even as the rest of the Heroes and Warriors were dealing with a Super Yellow Devil, Mega Man was facing Bass for one final battle. But when Dr. Albert Wily died, others took his place. With so many threats coming from all sides, Mega Man knew he couldn’t do it alone. Luckily there are other heroes around. Alongside Sonic and Darkwing Duck, they created the Heroic International Rescue Organization (HIRO) and gathered as many heroes as they could. With all this help and the resources combined, Mega Man will continue to fight for Everlasting Peace.
Forms:
Tumblr media
Rush Adapter: Jet -  This is when Rush junctions with Megaman. The Jet Version allows Megaman to Fly thus increase mobility.
Tumblr media
Rush Adapter: Power -  This is when Rush junctions with Megaman. The Power Version sacrifices the ability to shoot for having a stronger punching force.
Sprite Credit
The Current Version is from Mega Man 7
Fun Facts:
The first Mega Man game I ever purchased on my own was Mega Man 9 and outside the Power Battle Series, the first Mega Man game I ever beaten. In fact, the only reason I got into the Mega Man series was because of Bob and George.
Mega Man is the oldest active hero among HIRO.
Mega Man does not keep the power of the Robot Masters because he is afraid such power would corrupt him. But he does keep their data stored on a computer just in case he needs said powers.
