In my opinion, all the best media makes you feel like you've been picked up and thrown against a wall.

A FELLOW MELISSA CARUSO FAN?!?!?
I thought I was the only one on the whole Tumblr!!
I love Kathe so much.
Another one <33333333333333333!!!!!!!!! I haven't gotten round to reading her Rooks and Ruin, but I am so, so looking forward to her Last Hour Between Worlds
But just god yesssss love Amalia
and Cathe and Zaira, and all the rest of them so much! The Amalia Zaira friendship!!!!! so prickly at first and then becoming the most important relationship for either of them! GOD, that carriage ride in Unbound, where Cathe and Zaira are telling stories and just praying they can run out the clock--still one of the scenes that haunts me most in all of fiction. La Contessa, and the fact that Amalia's struggle isn't "Oh, I must rebel" but "Oh, I must learn her wisdom" GOD, these books are sooo good and I will babble about them at the slightest provocation. (Hell, Amalia/Cathe, first het ship I'd hard shipped in *years* :)

finally convinced @libraryleopard to read the obsidian tower and all my pestering definitely paid off because she immediately came up with the 100% correct fancast that ryx's annoying teenage cousin with the giant pet weasel should be played by ty tennant in a hypothetical tv adaptation

So much happens in The Quicksilver Court.
Apparently so much happens in The Ivory Tomb, as I'm already 1/3 of the way through it.

I was reading The Ivory Tomb and realised something
So we all know that Whisper tries to always be neutral, and he knows there can be devastating consequences if he doesn't. But death itself also always remains neutral. Death waits for no one and will always come, no matter who you are and what decisions you have made. So it would make sense for Whisper to also be neutral.

Every time a friend of mine gets into one of my hyperfixations, I grow stronger. When someone says "oh yeah, I started reading that webcomic/book series" or "Oh, I'm watching that show right now" my power waxes terribly.

January Book Reviews: The Ivory Tomb by Melissa Caruso
Tumblr media
Book three of three, probably unwise to start here. After the revelation of Ryx's dark nature in the previous book (not to mention, the bit where the demons were released and ushered in the Dark Days returned), Ryx and her friends are in disarray. Can they manage to contain the demons and return them to the hells before they cause widespread destruction-- or will Ryx's allies turn against her once they learn what she is?
I'm not sure I liked this book as much as the second in the series. The Quicksilver Court had a fantastic twist ending, plus a complex court setting with a number of unanticipated danger. I feel like this book was more about moving us from point a (demons escaped) to point b (demons contained). There was nothing too surprising, no major twists, and an emphasis on fight scenes (which I dislike).
This book had its highlights (some further revelations about Ryx's past which were quite good, scenes of a decaying Witch Lord domain), but overall, I didn't enjoy it as much as the previous installment.

Finished The Tethered Mage by Melissa Caruso. Have to say that I loved it. My only complaint at all is I suspected one aspect that turned out true, but even that ended up being a tip of the iceberg such that so much I didn’t suspect happened. In hindsight I can see the pieces I should have connected, but I missed them and I love that the book pulled that off. Felt good to see everything fall in place.
I feel the need to point out that the main two tethered characters were the highlight of the show. I enjoyed them both and they easily carried me through the story and kept me smiling and interested.
This is a book I am planning on recommending and also one where I am immediately moving on to the next book in the series as my next book. It is very good. An easy read with fun characters and a compelling story with political intrigue to figure out as well.
