Easy Tips to Improve Your Resume Fast
Your resume is your first impression—make it count. In today’s competitive job market, hiring managers often spend just 7 seconds scanning a resume. That’s why making quick yet powerful improvements can drastically increase your chances of landing an interview. Whether you're updating your resume for a new opportunity or starting from scratch, this guide offers easy, actionable tips to enhance your resume fast.
Why Resume Optimization Matters
Recruiters receive hundreds of resumes for a single job posting. A well-polished resume not only showcases your qualifications but also demonstrates your professionalism and attention to detail.
According to a CareerBuilder study, 77% of hiring managers disqualify resumes due to grammatical errors or poor formatting. The good news? These are easily fixable with a few smart tweaks.
1. Start with a Strong Summary
Your resume summary should act like a personal elevator pitch.
Do: ✅ Focus on your top achievements. ✅ Tailor it to the role you're applying for. ✅ Keep it concise (2–3 lines).
Example:
“Results-driven digital marketer with 5+ years of experience in SEO and content strategy. Proven track record of increasing organic traffic by 60% year-over-year.”
Avoid vague buzzwords like "go-getter" or "team player." Be specific and measurable.
2. Use Action Verbs and Quantify Achievements
Replace passive language with powerful action verbs to make your experience stand out. Words like “spearheaded,” “increased,” “optimized,” or “executed” instantly add impact.
Before:
Responsible for managing social media accounts.
After:
Managed and grew Instagram following by 45% in six months through targeted content and engagement strategies.
Whenever possible, add numbers to show your value. Employers love metrics—they validate your performance.
3. Keep It Clean and Scannable
A cluttered resume can be overwhelming. Stick to a modern, clean layout:
Use standard fonts like Arial, Calibri, or Helvetica.
Avoid using more than two font sizes.
Stick to bullet points for responsibilities and accomplishments.
Keep it to one page if you have less than 10 years of experience.
Bonus tip: Use white space wisely. It makes your resume more readable and less intimidating to hiring managers.
4. Tailor Your Resume for Each Job
Generic resumes don’t cut it anymore. Use the job description as a blueprint.
🔍 Scan for keywords in the job ad and mirror them in your resume.
Example: If the job ad emphasizes “project management” and “budget oversight,” ensure these exact phrases appear in your work experience (if applicable).
You can also use tools like Jobscan to analyze how well your resume matches a specific job posting.
5. Highlight Relevant Skills Strategically
Create a dedicated Skills section that features both hard and soft skills relevant to the job.
Sample Format:
Skills:
SEO & Content Strategy
Google Analytics & Data Reporting
Project Management (Asana, Trello)
Team Leadership & Collaboration
Make sure these align with what's mentioned in the job ad.
6. Eliminate Fluff and Irrelevant Info
Your resume should only include information that supports your career goals. That means cutting out:
Outdated tech (e.g., MS-DOS, Fax Machines)
High school education (if you have a college degree)
“References available upon request”
Unrelated hobbies (unless relevant to the job or company culture)
Every word should serve a purpose.
7. Use a Resume Service for a Professional Edge
If you’re still unsure about how to make your resume stand out, consider using a professional resume service. Services like MyResumeMentor.com offer:

disappearing act (jayce talis x f!reader)
2.7k words
Tumblr media Tumblr media
content/warnings: jayce is in a strained relationship as a result of his work...and his sudden disappearance(s).
18+ minors dni; smut, rough sex, angst (my specialty), unprotected p in v, jayvik sprinkles, strained relationship, argument + lack of communication as a result, jayce being a meanie/dedicated scientist
notes: i feel bad that there's no addition to golden boy at the moment, so here's something else for the jayce girlies that i have been thinking about. once again, incredibly sad...but you love it.

The relationship you had with Jayce was one of the few things you could rely on. With his work, Jayce Talis may be considered brash—stubborn even. With you, though, he was the epitome of understanding. He watched you often, a careful eye on you. Relying so heavily on the products of scientific experiments, he seldom acted in a way that was proven to yield negative results. That was until he let the work consume him.
You were always supportive, he’d said as much. You were there to offer an ear, reassurance, and love to the man who needed it so much. He often recounted the story of his mother being saved by magic, a new detail finding its way into the narrative every time. It was then that you understood Jayce’s need to expose the world to this technology. To afford people the opportunity he was so graciously given—to protect people they love.
Tensions were rising in Piltover and Zaun. You weren’t entirely sure what was happening; Jayce told you as much as he felt was necessary. As a member of the council, there was so much to take on. You could see the stress. In the last few weeks he’d become distant, reluctant to even make eye contact with you. At the time you’d usually meet one another, he avoided you. So much was going wrong, yet you couldn’t find the right words. There seemed to be nothing you could say to comfort him. A feeling of failure sat within you, almost overwhelming the love you had for him. You started to question the man you’d often taken at face value. He wasn’t himself, no, he was something else entirely.
You sat alone, jotting down notes. There was nothing of particular interest there—but you had to keep busy these days. You perked up at the sound of Jayce entering the room, your shoulders immediately slumping at the prospect of knowing him so well that you knew it was him without a look back.
His voice broke the silence, “Hi.”
That was all you really got from him, greetings in passing. This time, it was to pick up a tool he’d left. You sighed, waving a hand at him, knowing that if it was up to him he wouldn’t see you at all today.
He spoke again, “Thanks.” He showed a specific sized wrench that he loved. You weren’t entirely sure how it got here, but you knew the gratitude he showed was true. If he took nothing else seriously at the moment, he’d always been nose-first into his work. His venture toward progress.
You nodded at his thanks to you, resuming your work.
He left his back to you, “I’m working with Heimerdinger again.”
This surprised you. Both the mention of his former mentor as well as the continued conversation. “Really?” You spun around in your chair, back to your desk.
He turned to face you, “He has a new protégée, this kid. I’m sure I’ve seen him before…around…but he needs help.”
“So you’re helping him,” you smiled. It was earnest. There was a warmth there, a passing thought that he might return to himself—a man motivated by care.
He nodded, “So what’s occupying your time? More of that meaningless writing you do?” He chuckled and motioned toward your open book.
You twisted the corner of your lips, stunned by the way his words pierced you. For no reason, you might add. A dry chuckle left your throat, echoing his. You deliberately responded lowly, looking toward the floor, “Wouldn’t have to do meaningless writing if my boyfriend had actually been around for once.”
It was his turn to curl his lip in irritation, “You know what I’m doing is important-“
“And yet there’s nothing to show for it.”
“That is not fair.” He stepped further into the room, “It takes years to replicate and master the technology I’m working on. Viktor and I have been at this for years, surely you understand that getting it right takes precedent.”
You nodded, understanding now. “Precedent over your relationship, got it.” You turned and slammed your book shut. His footsteps approached you and you stood in return, meeting his surprisingly close glare at you.
“You know thats not what I meant-“
“Isn’t it, though?”
“No, its just that…”
“Just what?”
He sighed, no words finding him. He couldn’t really explain what it was, exactly. Part of him felt as if you were right—that maybe he did think much less of you than he thought. That perhaps he’d become so accustomed to the havoc, the time with his partner, and the inconsistency of research. He searched his brain, landing on the fact that he was addicted to the high science bought to him. It wasn’t that he didn’t care about you. It was simply that like you said, he wasnt around.
“Maybe you should go.”
His mouth was agape, realizing he failed to answer. He tried to call out to you, your name leaving his lips in a plea. You just needed time. His brows drooped, a defeated look over his body. He backed away, before turning towards the door. He stopped at the door frame, grasping it, the closest he’d been to latching onto you. “I’m sorry.” Then, he rounded the corner and was gone.
A few months passed. You didnt expect that when Jayce left, he’d seemingly disappear into thin air. When you found out that another boy, Ekko, along with Heimerdinger were also gone—you connected the dots. You weren’t sure what to do, if there was anything to be done. You weren’t dumb, but to Jayce or Viktor’s level of intelligence…you’d found yourself feeling inadequate. It was just your luck, too, that the one person who could help you was nowhere to be found. His partner, one you could tell Jayce loved so much—had vanished.
There were a few times where you examined their work area. You searched for anything to make sense of the loss. There was nothing. Like clockwork, you would end your search in tears, frantically clawing at the leftover notes and tools. When you couldn’t sleep, you would sneak into Jayce’s bed. The scent of him enveloped you. The tears would come, again, soaking his pillows. You’d later grown disgusted with yourself—the lack of composure. Your sensitivity only removed Jayce further from you; his presence no longer lingered. The smell of him had dissipated. You were beyond devastated. The yearn to have the entirety of the world to open up and swallow you whole was immense.
You resumed your meaningless writing. In the time Jayce had been gone, you went through two entire notebooks. You cried into a lot of the pages, leaving them impossible to write on. In others you poured out every emotion you felt—chronicling every detail.
He often found you in your dreams. Few times, you’d offer your mind the comfort of loving him again. Most times, however, you would torture yourself with a recounting of your last conversation. You would try to change what you said, how little you did…but the outcome was always the same. He would always leave you.
The sound of his familiar footsteps haunted you. Someone would approach you, the rhythm slightly off, but enough to get your hopes up every time. Tonight had been the same, people passing, none being the one you wanted the most. You laid in bed, gaze to the ceiling. You didn’t really have much on your mind, outside of Jayce Talis—again.
Footsteps approached, again, not him. These were heavier, irregular. It sounded as if one of them dragged. Your face twisted, a disdain filling you. It was enough. You turned, angling your back towards the door and the sound of the unfamiliar footsteps.
You arched a brow, hearing your door open and close. You angled your neck, not caring who it was but needing the time to yourself. “Whoever that is, please…go away.”
There was a pause, then a voice. “Still stubborn.”
Your breath hitched, your body turning to confirm whether or not you’d actually well and truly lost your mind. It couldn’t be, not after all this time.
“Jayce.” It wasn’t a question, as much as you thought it would be. It was true, he was there—albeit entirely different. His hair had grown longer, easily passing his ears. The twinkle in his eye was completely gone. His facial hair had grown. The man that you knew wasn’t here, this was the residual shell—a combination of leftover pieces of himself that had been discarded.
You crawled off of the bed, scrambling to him. You observed him briefly, taking in the details of him, before jumping into a hug. The scent you loved so much, that comfort that long left you, rested beneath a swell of ash and grime. He reluctantly raised his hands. You waited for the feeling of him embracing you back, but it didn’t come. You felt his palms instead, grasping your face. His eyes peered into yours, a hand dropping so that only one held you now. As you leaned into his single hand on you, he maneuvered his thumb. He brushed over your lips briefly. His grip then fell just underneath your chin. He let his thumb squeeze into you, pinching your cheeks slightly before nudging your face.
He wasn’t the same. You didn’t care. He moved toward you, causing you to lean into your bed. When the back of your legs hit the mattress, you sat down slowly. You looked up at him, not needing to exchange words with him. It had been too long.
All reason left you; you were sure that there was never any in this Jayce’s mind. You quickly reached for his pants, undoing the button and zipper as he simultaneously maneuvered for yours. You paused, only resuming when you were completely bare on the bottom. You could see him, pleading to be released from the confines of his pants. You reached at his waist, pulling his pants and underwear down. You were startled when they didn’t go down fully. Your gaze dropped, noticing the brace on his leg. The single pant leg had caught the metal. He huffed, the cold air finally sweeping against him. The sensation was enough to make him hiss—the slight drip of precum forming on him.
He leaned you into the bed, circling your entrance immediately. There wasn’t time for prep, you two had already lost so much time together. He thought of you every day. At one point, he’d found a rock, etching what he struggled to remember of your face into the wall. Before he could think to eat, before he could save himself—he thought of you.
You deserved more than this. What he was about to do. But as he looked back at you and saw the pleading in your eyes, he knew you needed this. You needed him.
Without further thought, he plunged into you. You gasped at the resistance—your insides tighter than normal. It burned, Jayce pushing all of him completely into you. The pain was nothing compared to the mental abuse you had endured. This pain was worth it, you reasoned. At least, now, the pain was inflicted by Jayce—here.
He started his pace into you. Tears collected in your eyes, from both the overwhelming emotion and the way his hips snapped into you. He yanked you back towards him, a slapping resonating through the room. His eyes closed, brows furrowed. You noticed this, reaching to rub his arm that rested on your waist. His eyes opened immediately, looking at your hand on him. The gesture more than he deserved. He pulled out of you then, reaching to pump his hand up and down himself.
He spoke, finally, “Flip.”
You did so without question. Your chest found the bed, head leaning to the side. The bed was a bit taller than you and it left you on your toes. You fought to stabilize yourself—wanting to do whatever it was that he needed. He spread your legs, ramming into you without warning. The force of him pushing into you had you whining. A yelp escaped you with every thrust, the feeling of him relieving a desire that had built up in you since he left. Your feet eventually lifted from the floor completely, your arms gripping into the blankets. Jayce had the entire bed and its posts rocking. The squeaking, groaning, and slapping was entirely disgusting and quite reflective of your relationship now. The ordeal was desperate, pulling at each other until you fell apart.
You circled your hips into the firmness of the mattress. Your clit found the friction in exactly the right way. Behind you, Jayce found your hips, gripping at your flesh like you’d disappear if he didn’t. It wasn’t long before you came, face down ass up onto Jayce. You felt a pool of wetness escaping you, dripping beneath you. He sighed at the extra lubrication, speeding up even more. He worked you through his own release, filling you to the brim.
He collapsed onto your back. The feeling of his breath on your neck, the stubble on his jaw, and hair fraying onto your ear was entirely new. You remained motionless, afraid for the moment to end. It did, though, Jayce pulling out of you. He rubbed your ass briefly, before pulling his pants up and straightening himself. You pulled yourself fully onto the bed, grabbing your underwear and a throw blanket to lay over your bottom half of your body.
An expectant look was on your face. You dreamed of the day he would come back—return to you. You hadn’t expected it to be so wordless. You watched the man inch his way towards his hammer. It looked different than you remembered, flurries of color attached to it. It was somewhat eroded, too. You frowned at that. There was a clear resemblance here, the disfigurement an emulation of the relationship between you being completely different than when you first met.
“What happened to you?”
He leaned down now, fatigue catching up to him. “That thing I was working on-“
“With Heimerdinger…and…Ekko-“
“Yes.” He paused, a choked sob bursting from him immediately. “I-I was lost. Lost you.”
You tried to stand, move to him, but he raised a hand to stop you. The act was a warning, like he didn’t need you near him. As if he didn’t want you to get hurt. It made you grasp the blanket more firmly.
He continued, “I have to finish this.”
The thought crossed your mind. To ask him what it was he had to do besides be with you was on the edge of your tongue. Question why, you thought. Not even a second later you realized that despite his appearance, he wasn’t so different, really. Jayce was always on a mission. He chased a feeling you could never replicate for him.
So you didn’t let the question linger between you. “Just come back to me.”
He stood, glancing at his wrist. You noticed the shine of blue there, interlocking with his very being. He nodded, conviction in his words. “I will. I can’t fail…not at this.”
With a hobble in his step, he moved toward the exit.
You didnt call out to him. He didn’t turn around for a second glance. With every day that passed, you wished so bad that one of you had. You weren’t entirely sure if what Jayce did—disappearing again, was considered a failure. But you knew the man. It was for a reason.
It took you a while to come to terms with what happened. You couldn’t bring yourself to visit the site for days. As the Sun rose one morning, yet another night of no rest on you…you slipped out of the bed. There was determination in your walk. You made the trek out to where the destruction was. There was machinery you’d never seen strewn all over the trail. You grimaced, following the natural line of sight. You saw it, then, Jayce’s hammer. You moved with determination. As you approached, you immediately collapsed beside it. There was nothing left of him. He was gone. Entirely this time.
You reached for the handle of the man’s creation, cradling it as if it were him. Your lips wobbled, a cry threatening to fall from you. You gasped for air. “No…” You shook your head, whispering, “Jayce…”

AO3 | Nesta Week 2025 Masterpost |
@nestaarcheronweek
Prompt: Day Seven - Free Day (Any topic of your choosing!)
A/N: This is my first time writing for Manon, so please forgive any mischaracterisations!
Word Count: 1644
Tumblr media
“Babe, I’m home!” Her girlfriend’s voice echoed through the entrance lobby, and she heard a muffled curse follow the greeting. Chuckling, she made her way downstairs to see an irritated Manon rubbing her ankle and frowning at the piece of furniture she currently held a vendetta against.
Eternally clumsy and forever bumping into things, it seemed that today, she’d managed to trip over the shoe rack. “That damned thing always gets in my way,” she grumbled. Nesta couldn’t help the the slight upward tug of her lips at her girlfriend’s adorable expression.
“I’d think you get in the way of that poor shoe rack, seeing as you manage to stumble over it every single day.”
“Hey! It’s not my fault-”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah,” Nesta said, barely containing a laugh at her girlfriend’s indignant protests. “Whine about the shoe rack later. Dinner’s ready.”
That one sentence sobered Manon up immediately. She took off her long, tan overcoat, and popped her black boots off. Her dark nails glinting in the overhead light as she tucked a strand over silver hair behind her ear. “Ooo, what’d you make?”
“Pasta,” Nesta answered over a shoulder as they began making their way to the kitchen.
Piling a generous amount of her girlfriend’s favourite pasta onto her plate (lemon, chicken, cream, prosciutto, and arugula) and then serving herself, they sat down. Conversation resumed as easily as it had begun; talk about each of their days punctuating the room.
“I swear, I hate him so much,” Manon grumbled, aggressively stabbing at a piece of chicken. “He always thinks he’s so much better than everyone else just because he’s worked here for a few years longer than I have.”
Manon worked as an optometrist, offering patients routine check-ups to see whether they needed any changes made to their eyesight, among other things. The more serious parts of her job involved examining them for eye diseases and other health conditions. It was enjoyable enough, not to mention the pay was more than decent, though not necessarily a profession she wanted to spend her entire life doing.
Nesta was the opposite. She’d known from a young age that she’d need to pick a stable job that would get her money, if only to support her ailing father (never mind that he’d been negligent at best and an outright horror at worst) and her two younger sisters. Through sheer dedication, hard work, and many years at university, she was now a successful lawyer well on her way to starting her own firm.
She’d always been told she had a sharp tongue and an even sharper mind, so she’d found a good use for both of them. It didn’t hurt that she was rolling in money, either.
“Is he really that bad?” Nesta asked gently. “He’s irritating, sure, from what you’ve told me, but…don’t waste any more energy on him. He’s not worth it.” She stroked a light hand over her partner’s exposed wrist, and Manon calmed immediately. It was a small touch; grounding, and yet all she’d needed.
Manon’s boss, an older, stricter, and far crankier person than her previous mentor, was getting on her nerves. Micromanaging her and acting as if he knew so much better than Manon were only a few of the complaints Nesta had to hear about on the daily.
“Fine.” Manon rolled her eyes, and took another bite of the food. “Oh, by the way, love the pasta. How do you get it so creamy?”
Nesta only grinned. “A magician never reveals her secrets.”
“Not even to her extremely hot and seductive girlfriend?”
“Seductive?” Nesta questioned, quirking a brow in mock challenge. “That’s not quite how I remember you being last week when we slept together. I wasn’t the one begging to cum.”
“I think you might need a reminder of just how seductive I can be.” Manon’s golden eyes had darkened, turning hazel more than anything, and a light blush had crept over her cheeks at Nesta’s casual comment.
“How about we finish dinner first? Then you can show me all of this supposed skill.”
“Supposed skill?” It was always so easy to rile her up Nesta couldn’t help but chuckle.
And so their banter continued. Teasing remarks, the occassional joke, and laughter filled the room, until Nesta’s eyes drifted to the clock on the microwave. “Manon, it’s eight already.”
Yawning, the silver-haired woman got up. “I’ll get to the dishes.”
It was a rule they’d established quite early on that whoever made dinner didn’t have to do the dishes.
“Do them later.” Nesta got up too, plopping her plate and cutlery into the sink, and collapsed onto the couch. Her limbs sprawled out in all directions, and Manon knew she was only doing it to be dramatic.
“Nesta-”
“Come on,” she whined, drawing out the last syllable in a pathetic attempt to drag her girlfriend to the sofa with her. “It’s Friday night. Live a little.” Her voice was muffled, seeing as she’d squashed her face into the sofa cushions, but Manon found it oddly…endearing.
“It’s ironic that you’re the one saying this,” Manon muttered under her breath. Indeed, she was usually the one that had to coax Nesta to take a break, but it seemed that today, Nesta was having her way. “What do you want to do, anyway?”
Nesta made a show of putting a finger on her chin and tilting her head. “Mmm,” she said. “How about…karaoke?” Without waiting for an answer, she got up and made her way to the TV cabinet.
Manon couldn’t help the laugh that broke out of her then. “No way in hell am I singing to some 2010s Britney Spears song that’ll make me lose my voice.”
Nesta frowned. “Britnery Spears isn’t all that bad. Besides, when was the last time we did something like this together?”
“Nesta, there’s a reason I don’t sing.” At Nesta’s quizzical look, she clarified. “Everyone within a five-kilometre radius will go deaf if I do.”
She merely scoffed. “Nonsense. You’re singing and that’s final.”
“What do I get if I do sing?” Manon would be damned if she didn’t let this go without a scuffle. She didn’t hide the way her eyes roved over Nesta’s body and the tank top and shorts that she had on.
Nesta didn’t say a word, only approaching Manon until she had to crane her neck to look at her girlfriend. If she moved forward ever so slightly, she’d brush thighs with Nesta. She didn’t, instead choosing to wait for her to break the creeping tension now building.
“I’ll let you do whatever you want to me tonight if you sing with me.” Her voice came out breathless, perhaps the only indication that Nesta was as excited for this as she was.
“Whatever I want? Don’t you think that’s a steep deal?” Manon only barely managed to keep her voice from betraying what it was she was thinking (specifically, how badly she wanted to bend her girlfriend over the sofa and fuck her senseless.)
“No.”
“Really? I would have expected something more…concrete, coming from a lawyer.”
“This isn’t working, and I know I don’t need to be specific with you.” A small pout had overtaken Nesta’s face, and dammnit if Manon didn’t give in.
“Fine. One song.” Nesta’s expression changed almost immediately, lighting up with joy as she settled in beside her.
“Since you agreed, you pick.”
Ten minutes, multiple hurled insults, and at least five tossed pillows later, they decided on a song. Well, Manon had. Nesta, it seemed, was still hesitant.
“Do you have to pick songs that so depressing? Like, are you doing this on purpose or something?” She asked, frowning at the TV screen as if it had personally wronged her.
“It’s Lana Del Rey! How is she depressing?”
“How isn’t she depressing? That’s literally all she writes about.” Manon rolled her eyes. They really weren’t getting anywhere with this.
“Okay. You know what? We’re spinning a wheel. If neither of us can decide, we’ll just randomise it.” Despite Nesta’s protests and her half-hearted attempts to snatch Manon’s phone right out of her hand, she spun the wheel.
“See?” Manon exclaimed indignantly once it had stopped spinning. “It landed on Lana Del Rey.”
“You cheated,” Nesta huffed, crossing her arms over her chest. “But fine. Miss Depressed Del Rey it is.”
Manon took the remote from her, and browsed songs until she found her favourite. “Ready?”
✦ ✦ ✦
A drunken giggle passed from Nesta’s lips as she lay sprawled on the sofa. She’d long since given up on karaoke because she’d been laughing too hard. She couldn’t even remembered why she was laughing, only that it was silly, and that she was incandescently happy.
Manon, to her credit, hadn’t stopped once; not to get a drink of water, or even the bathroom. Of course, that didn’t mean she was any less drunk, but at least she was standing.
“All the grace, all that body
All that face makes me wanna party”
Her raucous voice filled the living room, and though it was ridiculously off-key, it was the most fun she’d had in a while.
It only made Nesta laugh even harder, and she doubled over as she lay shaking on the sofa.
The song ended, and she shrieked as Manon grabbed her around the waist. “You promised me you wouldn’t laugh.”
“I wasn’t laughing at you,” she managed between wheezes.
“Oh yeah?”
“I swear!”
“How about I do whatever I want to you and we can see if you were lying?” Manon’s taunting threat caused a delightful heat to spread between Nesta’s legs.
“It depends. What will you do to me?” She asked, puffing out a breath.
Nesta yelped again as Manon hurled her over a shoulder and began making their way to the bedroom.
“So eager tonight, hm? Let me show you.”

Writing a Cover Letter
A compelling cover letter can set you apart. Highlight your passion for technology and what you can contribute.
Practice Interviewing
Prepare for technical interviews by practicing coding challenges on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank. For non-technical roles, rehearse common behavioral questions.
Step 7: Stay Updated and Keep Learning
The tech world is ever-evolving, making it crucial to stay current. Subscribe to industry newsletters, follow tech blogs, and continue learning through online courses.
Follow Industry Trends
Stay informed about emerging technologies and trends in your field. Resources like TechCrunch, Wired, and industry-specific blogs can provide valuable insights.
Continuous Learning
Dedicate time each week for learning. Whether through new courses, reading, or personal projects, ongoing education is essential for long-term success.
Conclusion
Breaking into the tech world may seem daunting, but with the right approach and commitment, it’s entirely possible. By assessing your interests, acquiring relevant skills, building a portfolio, networking, gaining practical experience, preparing for job applications, and committing to lifelong learning, you’ll be well on your way to a rewarding career in technology.

I think the trickiest thing for me in terms of my canon worldstate for FFXIV is thinking about what Nayzak is doing as a non-WoL OC
so anyway here's the lore I have under the cut--writing it all down so I have it somewhere. since I'm so bad at writing stuff down like this, and this is meant to not just be a whole retelling of ffxiv's plot (but it does have spoilers up until the beginning of Shadowbringers, where I last stopped in the expansion)
She was born Jude Xalus in the Garlean empire, to Ala Mhigan parents. Her father, Ovidius, is a military engineer in the IVth legion, and her mother, Sirine, is a civilian with too much to prove. They expected Jude to become an engineer like her father and serve in the IVth as well. Jude was a brilliant engineer with a promising future, but she never felt at ease in her life in the empire. She eventually defected and made her way to Thanalan, blending in with the refugees in Little Ala Mhigo. She also began to go by Nayzak Sarhan, leaving her previous identity in her past.
She formed a mentor/mentee relationship with Ilberd Feare as she began to hone her skills as a pugilist. Ilberd would recommend her for work among the Immortal Flames, where she'd begin to see Raubahn as a father figure, one who would support her far more than her biological father ever did. During her time in Thanalan she also grows close with Minfilia, Thancred, and Tataru.
After completing a few odd jobs for the Path of the Twelve, she begins to manifest the ability to use the Echo, after which she begins to support the group in a more official capacity. She meets and becomes fast friends with the Warrior of Light (Hanan) and is assigned by Minfilia to support the WoL as a companion and partner. They only part ways after the calamity, when the Warrior of Light vanishes.
Nayzak aligns with the Scions when the organization is formed, and is assigned to field work in Coerthas, where she forms a romantic relationship with Haurchefant. She also grows familiar with the Fortemps knights and acts as a liaison between Ishgard and the Scions.
Following the WoL's return, they meet again when Hanan's travels take her to Coerthas, and though she cannot resume her role as the WoL's partner, she continues to help as much as she can. This is also around the time when she meets Cid and hesitantly begins to offer her support using her engineering prowess. By the end of the main campaign of ARR, she is even offered to join Garlond Ironworks, but favors her work with the Scions. She still will pop up to help Cid whenever he needs it. (Think, any sidequest storyline involving Cid and/or the Ironworks, and she is either there as support or handling it in lieu of the WoL)
The end of ARR/beginning of Heavensward is a big time for Nayzak. Her years long relationship with Haurchefant culminates in him asking for her hand in marriage, knowing that Aymeric intends to push for Ishgard to join the Eorzean alliance, which makes the future of their relationship less uncertain. And right after that happened, the whole banquet thing goes down, which is hard blow considering that she considered Ilberd to be family. When the Crystal Braves betray the Scions, she is one of the people who are able to make it out, alongside the WoL, Tataru, and Alphinaud. She takes it quite hard because her father's fate is unknown and Nanamo, who she'd also grown close to, appears to have died. This is also when she begins to take on a more major role in the WoL's adventures.
She is briefly allowed to experience happiness when Haurchefant accompanies her to meet Raubahn after he is rescued from prison. And then the Vault happens because she can't be too happy.
Post-Vault is Nayzak's edgy era. She feels like everything in her life has fallen apart and her own self image grows incredibly shaky. Her self image is really a projection of her closest relationships, and with people like, Minfilia, Thancred, and Haurchefant all being lost in such a short period of time--plus the stress of having thought she'd lost Raubahn and Nanamo-- she grows cold and distant from others.
Even after Thancred and Y'shtola are found, she cannot interact with them with the same warmth and familiarity as before. However, there is no time to dwell on that because Ilberd's back and trying to summon a primal because shit wasn't fucked enough. Although he has completely gone off the deep end in his extremism, his death sinks her further into despair.
This also marks a new era for her: the 'Guilt over being raised in Garlemald while her people suffered under occupation' era. She is laser focused on liberating Ala Mhigo to alleviate the icky feeling of being more colonizer than indigenous Ala Mhigan. She would be her father's most dutiful daughter. In her role as Flame Captain, she would direct troops and always keep herself busy with something to further the cause.
Her unease is also compounded by the fact that she has not told most people in her life that she was raised in Garlemald, and though nobody would see her differently if she told them, she continues to withhold this from everyone and it eats at her. At this point, only the WoL, Thancred, and Raubahn know of this, and they do not betray her secret
(The Monk Job quests also fit somewhere in here but god I do not know where to start -- only that in supporting Widargelt and helping out the settlements in Gyr Abania, she begins to connect with her indigenous heritage as an Ala Mhigan and begin to resolve the conflict she feels over her past in Garlemald)
She continues to support the WoL in the far east, but is way less involved--but she DOES spark a fun little fling with Tansui that teaches her the important lesson of "good god, woman, take a fucking breather"
Post-Stormblood main campaign, she and Cid join Hanan on some Ivalice related adventures, and post adventure is when Nayzak hears word of the IVth legion looking into magicite farmed from Ivalician ruins as a source of energy. The endeavor seems very reminiscent of the work her father would do for the legion, so she sets out to investigate on her own. She tries to sabotage the operation and in doing so, sets off technical malfunctions that seal her and some of the IVth legion in the ruins together.
She's only saved because the WoL's sister resides in the Golmore Jungle where she was able to spy on all of this occurring. And through contact with the Dalmascan resistance, was able to send word to Doma and thus Hanan.
She's taught a harsh lesson on relying on your friends when you need help instead of insisting on doing everything alone. As a result, she rekindles the friendships which have grown distant and realizes how one-sided the distance was. She was the only one who felt that distance, but her loved ones never faltered in their affection for her.
She realizes that she'd been burning herself out and that it might be a good idea to stay in Ala Mhigo with her father for a short time to recuperate, leaving the Scion shenanigans to the other Scions for the time being.
But fate has other plans for her because a mysterious voice begins calling out to the WoL and the Scions. Soon she also loses consciousness just before the battle with the Garleans.
Where we're at now, is she has been living in the First for about 2 years? She settles in the Crystarium as an engineer, helping them bolster their defenses against the sin eaters, and is one of the first and easiest people to reunite with when Hanan arrives to the First.
(if you read this far, wow, ok thank u actually)

Okay but imagine
All of the Watchtower ‘civilian hires’ are retired/former heroes or their support system, or otherwise just…. Are not fucking normal.
Danny Fenton is a tech, as is Tucker Foley, although wildly different departments. Sam Manson is usually in charge of the onboard garden (I’m 90% sure they have one), possibly a backup field medic. The Possible twins Jim and Tim are engineers, and Kim is probably still a freelancer that everyone low key forgets is like, Batman lite. They tried to get Wade Load but since Kim is still active, he stays with her, possibly same with Ron Stoppable. Juniper Lee and Danny bond over former astronaut dreams and weird mystic Bullshit, which Arthur “Spud” Spudinski, one of the nurses, is also oddly insightful on. Marinette Dupain-Cheng works textiles and costumes, occasionally roping in one of the cooks, a certain blond named Adrien (no last name given THANKS), to help her with his “natural inclination towards destroying things”. Randy Cunningham is their archivist who has the odd extremely good reflex, who works with Coraline Jones, who has a childhood friend named Wyborn Lovat over in Engineering and Maintenance. Sheldon Cooper specializes in Robotics, although he only works… semi-part time, and is technically the League contact for one Jenny Wakeman. Mabel Pines is maybe certifiably a little nuts but she also can calibrate grapple weapons better than anyone, if only she’d stop getting her brother Dipper from Archives when she does safety tests.
Of course, they all might have some feelings about the protégés, but they also kind of understand that in most—if not all—of these cases, the kids would be out there ANYWAYS so at least this way they have someone to teach them the ropes.
Just… the majority of every hire on the Watchtower being both sympathetic but also completely OVER all of the superheroes bitching. A lot of them were child heroes WITHOUT decent mentors so they’re just like ‘but did you also have to write a five page paper on the American Civil War, read two chapters of the most boring book possible, draw the entire periodic table in color code, and have a trigonometry test the next day? No? Well then’. Like, they get it, this used to be their gig, and they’re kinda lucky in that for most of them, their threats have mostly ended in some way so that they CAN retire, but also. Also. Being a teenager sucks enough AS IS doing the hero thing sucks enough AS IS imagine doing BOTH. AT ONCE.
Then there’s the ones who are still fairly civilian save for That One Time or only dealt with local stuff, so they’re mostly normie and have mostly normie reactions outside of a very tolerant ‘go with the flow’ baseline, but occasionally are like “oh I know just the thing” and seem to pull some deus ex machina bullshit out of nowhere.
And all of them collectively decided that hey, saving the world or their town or solving some local mysteries involving the undead should absolutely count towards their resumes that they sent to literal superheroes who deal with this on the DAILY, so it’s in their files too. It is, again, not their fault no one did the assigned reading.
Batman has concerns about all the children fighting dragons, both metaphorical and LITERAL, but, well. Not much he can do about their PASTS, just be understanding of their futures. And no this is NOT because he has a whole adoption thing, he is NOT brooding, shut up Clark.
Short DPXDC Prompts #648
The League gets incredibly concerned that their main tech mechanic, Danny Fenton, has instances of his heart or breathing randomly stopping. His skin is cold as ice and his skin is deathly pale.
Danny didn’t realize that the League doesn’t look at hiring applications. If they did they would have seen that he put being a half ghost on his resume.

How to Apply to US Colleges as an International Student
If you're thinking about applying to a college in the United States as an international student, you might feel overwhelmed. That’s normal. There are a lot of steps, and things can get confusing fast—especially when rules and systems are different from what you’re used to.
The good news is: once you break the process down, it becomes a lot easier to handle. This guide explains everything in simple terms so you know what to expect and how to get started.
Start with Understanding the System
The US has all kinds of colleges: public universities, private universities, liberal arts colleges, and community colleges. Some are large, others small. Some are known for research, others for teaching.
US colleges offer two main types of programs—undergraduate (for bachelor’s degrees) and graduate (for master’s or PhD). You’ll want to think about what subject you want to study, what kind of college fits your goals, and what location feels right for you.
Create a List of Colleges That Interest You
Instead of applying to just one college, it’s smart to apply to several. That way, you’ll have more options later. Most students apply to five to ten colleges. Choose a mix of colleges—some that are more competitive, some that are a good match, and a few where you feel confident you’ll get in.
Look into what each college offers in terms of majors, campus life, cost, location, and support for international students. Use the college websites or trusted platforms like Common App or College Board to help with your research.
Check What Each College Requires
Each college will have its own set of admission requirements. But most of them will ask for a few common things. These include your school transcripts, English test scores, recommendation letters, a personal essay or statement, and proof that you can pay for your studies.
Some colleges might also ask for extra items like a resume, a portfolio (for design or art programs), or an interview. That’s why it’s really important to read the requirements for each college carefully.
Take the Right Tests
As an international student, you’ll most likely need to prove your English language skills. Common tests include TOEFL, IELTS, or the Duolingo English Test. You’ll need to take one of these unless the college says otherwise.
Some colleges still ask for SAT or ACT scores for undergraduate programs, though many are now test-optional. Graduate programs might require the GRE or GMAT, depending on what you're applying for.
Make sure to register for these exams early and give yourself enough time to prepare.
Write a Clear and Honest Essay
Colleges in the US often ask for a personal statement or essay. They use this to get to know you beyond your grades and scores. The good thing is, you don’t need to sound perfect or use big words. Just be real.
Talk about your goals, your interests, and why you're choosing that college or program. Share something meaningful about your life or experiences, but keep it focused and easy to read. Write the way you normally speak—just make sure it’s organized and well thought out.
Ask for Recommendation Letters Early
Most colleges want at least one or two recommendation letters. These should come from teachers or mentors who know you well. Don’t wait until the last minute to ask them. Give them enough time to write something thoughtful.
It helps if you explain what you’re applying for and what kind of qualities the college might be looking for. Also, always thank them—writing a good letter takes time and effort.
Fill Out the Application Form Carefully
Most US colleges accept online applications. Some use their own website, while others use platforms like Common App or the UC Application (for California public universities).
Take your time filling out the form. Make sure names, dates, and scores are accurate. Check your spelling and grammar. You’ll also be asked to pay an application fee, usually between $50 and $100. If that’s a problem for you, some colleges do offer fee waivers—you just have to ask.
Apply for Scholarships and Financial Aid
College in the US can be expensive, but don’t assume you can’t afford it. Many colleges offer scholarships for international students. Some are based on academic achievement, while others consider financial need.
Graduate students can also look into assistantships, which let you work on campus in exchange for funding. Every college has its own process, so make sure to read the instructions carefully and apply before the scholarship deadlines. In some cases, those deadlines are earlier than the admission deadline.
Pay Attention to Deadlines
Colleges in the US have different types of application timelines. Some offer early deadlines like Early Decision or Early Action, while others follow a regular decision schedule. A few even use rolling admissions, where applications are reviewed as they come in.
Whatever type of deadline your college follows, write it down and set reminders. Missing a deadline could mean waiting a whole year to apply again.
Prepare for the Student Visa
Once you get accepted, the college will send you a document called the I-20 form. You need this to apply for an F-1 student visa.
The visa process includes paying the SEVIS fee, filling out a DS-160 form, and scheduling a visa interview at your nearest US embassy or consulate. During your interview, be honest and clear. Bring all required documents and be ready to explain your study plans.
The key is to show that you’re a serious student and that you plan to return home after your studies.
Get Ready to Move
Once your visa is approved, you can start planning your travel. You’ll want to book flights, organize your housing (either on campus or nearby), and learn about health insurance and student support services.
Many colleges offer orientation sessions for international students. These are helpful, so try to attend. They’ll help you get comfortable with the campus, meet people, and understand how things work.
