“Dawn of DC” Makes Way for 3 New Limited Series Under “We Are Legends” Banner
Spinning out of the Lazarus Planet series, the “Dawn of DC” will introduce three new limited series featuring Asian Super Heroes for the “We Are Legends” banner.
Spirit World, from writer Alyssa Wong and artist Haining, follows Xanthe, first introduced in Lazarus Planet: Dark Fate #1, who has the “ability to travel in and out of the Spirit World – the realm of the dead, and that of the living. Xanthe possesses the ability to burn items folded from ceremonial joss paper and turn them into real objects that can be used in the physical world. Their super power is based on the East Asian custom of burning joss paper at gravesites to send resources to ancestors in the spirit world.” (DC Comics) Xanthe will have to forge an alliance with John Constantine to rescue Batgirl Cassandra Cain from jiangshi (Chinese hopping vampires).
Spirit World #1 (of 6), featuring covers by Haining, Dustin Nguyen, Trung Le Nguyen, and Zu Orzu, goes on sale on May 9, 2023.
The Vigil, from writer Ram V and artist Lalit Kumar Sharma, follows the team of South Asian metahumans consisting of Arclight, Saya, Dodge, and Castle (first seen in Lazarus Planet: Next Evolution #1). The Vigil were given powers they didn’t ant and are “determined to stop metahuman research and tech created for military applications at any cost. Along the way, they’ll encounter super heroes that could be allies or enemies, not a surprise for a group that exists to shut down state-sponsored superhumans…and clean up the mess before any hero or villain arrives, as if both the crime and The Vigil were never there.” (DC Comics)
The Vigil #1 (of 6), featuring covers by Sumit Kumar, Mukesh Singh, Lalit Kumar Sharma, Anad RK, and Pop Mhan, goes on sale on May 16, 2023.
City Boy, from writer Grek Pak and artists Minkyu Jung and Sunny Gho, follows Cameron Kim / City Boy, introduced in Wildstorm 30th Anniversary Special #1 and Lazarus Planet: Legends Reborn #1. Cameron is a kid trying to get by who uses his powers of speaking to cities to find lost items to pawn. “But having these powers also means that he hears everything about these cities, everywhere and all at once, including their histories and the truths behind them. In his two current appearances he’s already made “friends” with Gotham City (including a rat avatar made from the city’s scraps), but only time will tell if City Boy is received as openly by Metropolis, Amnesty Bay, Themyscira, or other cities in the DC Universe.” (DC Comics)
City Boy #1 (of 6), featuring covers by Minkyu Jung, InHyuk Lee, Michael Choi, and Alexandre Tefenkgi, goes on sale on May 23, 2023.

The final scene of Saladin Ahmed’s Magnificent Ms. Marvel run:
“It’s a stupid dance. I shouldn’t care about missing it. But I care. Too much. I always care too much. And it’s led me to make some big mistakes. But one thing I’ve learned... caring this much doesn’t make you stupid. It doesn’t make you weaker. In fact... it’s magnificent.”
From Magnificent Ms. Marvel (2019) #18 by Saladin Ahmed & Minkyu Jung.
