Just started watching the Netflix ATLA live action (currently on the third ep!) and I especially love the lil hat Iroh got to wear, decided to draw them with the og art designs :]]

Also really loved the scene with the woman who defends Aang by scolding Zuko mid-fight 😭 She’s the realest auntie

I just try to imagine the whole live action as a super high budget ATLA au. My sister does a better job at it though lmao. BUT it is entertaining! The dialogue is so funny sometimes with how odd it sounds, and Aang’s actor is so adorable.

My thoughts are blasting at random so do bear with me. While watching I was telling my sister that it’s a fun live action but as much as I try not to compare it too much to the og show, I just don’t enjoy live actions very much in general. I will admit that “real gritty dark” live actions do tend to attract more people, so if anything I’m glad that at least it will invite people to the wonderful story that is ATLA, and maybe even get them to watch the original :]

Would love to hear your thoughts though because from what I’m seeing its a very defined 50-50 split between people who loved and it people who absolutely despise it 💀

WAIT I've been having atla au brainrot (I rambled about it a while ago!) so I kept wondering, if you watched Avatar ofc, where would Yuusha belong?🤔 Would she be from the Fire Nation, Water Tribe, Earth Kingdom or would she be an Air Nomad?? Would love to see your opinions on this<33

anyways i actually haven't thought about what tribe yuusha would be born into,,, so i mayyyy have thought way too much about this -

(like with your daisy i think it would make sense for yuusha to be the avatar bc she’s also yuu/mc!!) my first instinct with yuusha was water tribe just based on vibes (and colors tbh), i lowkey have no further explanation 😭 AND THEN i thought northern water tribe specifically bc i thought it’d be interesting to have a female avatar when the tribe was still like- basically sexist against women

ghdkfjsk and i just had to envision yuusha in the water tribe fit -

if i recall correctly the girls were only allowed to use waterbending for healing and stuff like that and they’re not allowed to fight with it??? but if yuu is the avatar they’d probably make an exception with her??? also also!! i like the idea that even though she’s the avatar she’s there’s still people looking down on her / underestimate / doesn't take her seriously bc she’s not a boy (and she still has to follow customs like being engaged-to-be-married at a young age hence her betrothal necklace)

OR maybe an alternate take - since yuusha IS a girl they would try to hide the fact she’s the avatar bc it doesn't fit their patriarchal society

Got really angry thinking about live action lion king last night cuz no like the only thing a live action version of an animated movie has going for it is the appeal of seeing what funny cartoon guy would look like as a real human but when it comes to talking animals it’s kinda fishy cuz animals aren’t all anthropomorphic in real life, they don’t talk and dance around in these human ways. You can easily have an actor do everything that Cinderella does, but you can’t exactly get a lion and have it do what Simba does. The only way we can have this fantasy of singing and dancing animals is if we ANIMATE IT. WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT THEY DID FOR THIS SO CALLED “LIVE ACTION REMAKE” OF THE LION KING ITS JUST CGI ANIMATION THERES NOTHING LIVE ABOUT IT YOU JUST. YOU JUST MADE AN ANIMATED MOVIE BUT THIS TIME ITS UNINTERESTING TO WATCH BECAUSE YOU TOOK AWAY THE FUN PART

Like what he does requires type of thinking that you dont get if you specialise just on live action. But not everybody can make it work.
