Arknights Modules and Amiya Guard
Modules... leave something to be desired. Hardly a unique opinion, basically an ice-cold one, I believe. That being said, while I understand that game design and thus module design is hard, I've found it repeatedly more frustrating to be let down by a basic stat increase than to not get one at all. The thing that sparks this post is looking at Guard Amiya's new module. Longer post ahead.
I really like Amiya. I find her a compelling character, and a compelling design. I like watching how she proceeds through the story, and I like using her in story relevant locations. I'm used to both her uses and limitations, and she's the only above-module-level unit in my roster.
So I can say with security that Guard Amiya is unfortunately, tragically, the most underwhelming of her forms, with some of the weirder limitations and design restrictions. It's even stranger to consider when you look at all of the influences she has access to and doesn't take advantage of:
Arts Fighter Guards - Arts fragility, RES ignore, or RES shred (true damage could count if it was more reliable) - Block/Target increase - Burn/Elemental damage - Dueling dangerous opponents - Increased ASPD - Increased durability
Blademaster Guards - Activated powerstrikes (doesn't mesh with her talent) - Offensive recovery only - SP regain
Her Caster form - Auto-activated skills - Offensive recovery trait - Self retreat on s3 - Three skills - Unfocused yet high DPS - A lot of these make sense to not be used as they're reflective of her younger, inexperienced form! It makes sense that she would have auto-activation, unfocused, and self retreat or self debuffs on her skills.
The limitations of her design come primarily that as a raw damage unit, she doesn't do overwhelming amounts of damage, have any way to consistently bypass RES, and that her second skill as her only source of true damage and RES bypass is extremely gimmicky and limited.
It only being usable once is extremely harsh, requiring killing fodder enemies requires an in-depth stage knowledge and planning to take advantage of, and doesn't have enough of an attack increase even satisfying these conditions to make it worth the effort. Nevermind the limited 30 seconds, as well as no durability increases that can guarantee that she even gets to deliver out her entire skill.
This skill has a few places that I feel as though it could go, and different directions that it could benefit from. The most obvious step, is that since it doesn't follow Chimera's design and retreat her (instead becoming unusable) that she keeps the buffs she gains during the skill. Unfortunately, this is such an easy mistake to make that the third bullet point has to explicitly disagree with that specifically.
Not only would it give her an interesting indefinite duration skill that could justify the timing, of having +120% ATK with true damage, a functional invulnerability to Arts with RES at 81, it would also give a thorough synergy with her talent, making it indefinitely active. Imagine how good that would be for Talulah's fireballs.
It would even have cohesion with her character by this point; though she can still spike her power and go all out, represented by the initial slashes, she has a much better mastery and usage of her powers, allowing her to pace herself and actually last through a fight! That's awesome!
It would make so much sense, it would all work together, and yet. The insane drawbacks that come with this skill, the limited use and necessary fodder, will typically allow her skill 1 to outperform it in raw damage. Taking s2 over s1 is a massive risk for only a potential benefit. While I do really like this skill, and think that it's very cool and a good reflection of Ch'en's third skill, it can best be described as just unwieldy.
Ultimately I would prefer that a redesign take place to take better influence from other sources. She's a solid unit, but has a lot of different ways that she could be really interesting and engaging in alternative ways, or have different abilities that could all work nicely. I think I may even post some concepts later. Regardless, that all being said, I understand that Arknights doesn't do rebalances or redesigns, so my interest piqued with her module.
At maximum level, with maximum trust and maximum potentials, this is the difference that the module would make. Modules as a whole are a very interesting way to retroactively balance the game (given their inability, or aversion, to doing so manually) that to be done well require that they engage with each individual character's mechanics. Four and Five stars rarely get modules that will "fix" or address fundamental flaws within their kits (and I would be impressed if they did something like that for Guard Amiya), but I had an expectation that the protagonist of the game, the literal face of it, would get more than just trivial stat increases.
That isn't to say that stat increases aren't effective. I consider both Indigo and Ludonata's modules to be very nice, and the relative simplicity in their modules could be argued to reflect their 4* nature. Surtr getting 6 additional RES ignore is boring, but helpful at least. So surely, Amiya, could get something more exotic than a stat increase. Or at the very least, if it has to be a stat increase, more than 2%.
#arknights#arknights modules#viviana enjoyers eating good at least#i have faith that amiya will get a burn damage module eventually#if anyone ever got a redesign she would be the most justified and deserving of it#she should totally have 9 skills not 7

High-echelon Mawkin suit modules can be pretty wild, and the Energy conversion module in Raven Beak's suit is no exception.
When exposed to an active current or energy field, the module accounts for the level of charged particles in the local atmosphere and converts the detected matter to power. Most substantial forms of power and radiation are compatible with its function, and it's calibrated to work more efficiently when exposed to substantially powerful forms of plasmic matter.
The conversion module is similar to (but should not be confused with) the thermal charge module, which charges the power suit in extreme heat. That technology is also implemented in the protective exosuits found in Cataris' lava zone. The Mawkin use thermal energy to power a number of their facilities: that they'd implement it in their more mobile works is only natural.
Back to the subject at hand, the conversion module's practicality is twofold: to keep Raven Beak's suit sufficiently charged and to maintain his vigor in battle. His particular biometric modifications are such that his suit, combined with his level of physical fitness, can theoretically keep him fighting without fear of exhaustion in perpetuity.
Raven Beak's juiced up version of lightning armor is the inverse of this module: it absorbs charged particles for the purpose of coalescing into a projected wave. The use of lightning armor in this manner negates the function of the conversion module for restorative purposes. Additionally, lightning armor works best against oncoming projectiles, while the reactive conversion module is at its peak when the suit is exposed to ambient radiation or concentrated, consistent flows of power.
Suffice to say, Raven Beak is probably the only person who could stick a fork in an electrical socket and have it do the exact opposite of killing him.
#when i said he looks down on samus' suit upgrade library with pity. this is the kinda shit he's got under his belt to compare.#headcanons#mawkin#chozo#txt#there's a reason the Mawkin make duelists strip down to the bare essentials when they fight over disputes like leadership#in the case of duels over the title of Warlord that reason is 'to ensure the sitting Lord has not grown soft with the wealth of amenities#at their disposal'#the conversion module is one of those things that's hard-wired into his..#what's the word. cybernetics? Raven Beak has body mods but none of them are cosmetic. they're all for function.#but in any case it shouldn't come into play if he's duking it out with another Chozo in a spear fight.#his rivals for the seat don't have to deal with the immortal god-king who operates at peak efficiency 24/7: just Great Uncle Ashkar#and his fists#those are arguably scarier than the big cannon with its reactor turbines#you could charge this man like a phone#the mawkin were very invested in increasing their warriors' effectiveness in combat. and the suit is for more than just fighting#so a broad-spectrum high power module like that is highly valuable.#electricity. space radiation. charged miasma. you name it: he can probably 'plug in' to it.#he's not invincible and he can't exactly charge his suit in the heat of battle unless he's fighting in a location with great exposure#to charged matter or radiation. just don't fight him in a fallout zone and you're gucci.#i just had the image of him booking it for a nearby power plant to juice up in the middle of a fight snd it made me laugh#grampa's gotta get his talons in the good stuff before fighting it's like cranberry juice to him. it fixes everything.#'drink cranberry juice and eat radiation to get strong like me' -Raven Beak probably

"Apollo 13: Separation of the never-flown-before Command Module / Lunar Module configuration from the crippled Service Module. Approaching Earth, they fired the Aquarius engine again to thread themselves through the slender gateway out of space, shifted to the damaged Service Module and their lifeboat, the Aquarius. Carrier Iwo Jima, steaming on station in the Pacific Ocean, picked them up 45 minutes after splashdown, the fastest recovery ever."

National Astronaut Day
Blast off into an out-of-this-world celebration! Learn about space, astronauts, and explore the cosmos. It's time to reach for the stars!
Space travel brings with it a myriad of adventures and discoveries! And the astronauts who get to travel in space are a rare and special type of person. Take time on National Astronaut Day to celebrate these people who have had some of the most unique experiences possible for a human being by traveling beyond the earth and through space!
History of National Astronaut Day
The first American made his adventure into space travel on May 5, 1961, when Alan Bartlett Shepard Jr. made his historic 15 minute suborbital space journey. Since that time, the astronauts and cosmonauts who have continued the expedition into the virtually unknown world of space have been heroes of exploration!
National Astronaut Day was founded to pay honor and respect to the American astronauts of NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration). The purpose behind the day is to provide an opportunity for astronauts to share their stories and experiences for the rest of the world. The hope is that these types of stories will encourage and inspire young people to pursue an interest in the space sciences.
The first National Astronaut Day took place in 2017 and the day has been celebrated annually ever since to commemorate that first time of the United States human flight in space. The day was founded by the Uniphi Space Agency, which is a talent and marketing agency that has represented at least 20 different NASA astronauts.
National Astronaut Day Timeline
April, 1961 First astronaut enters space
Russian Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin is the first human to enter into space.
May, 1961 First American astronaut launches into space
Just a few weeks after the Russians entered space, Alan Shepard becomes the first American in space.
July, 1969 First men on the moon
Astronauts Neil Armstrong and “Buzz” Aldrin become the first men on the moon.
June, 1984 First American woman in space
Sally Ride becomes the first American woman in space, on the Space Shuttle Challenger.
November, 2000 Astronauts live on the space station
The first long-term astronaut residents land on the International Space Station.
How to Celebrate National Astronaut Day
National Astronaut Day is a great time to learn more about astronauts while showing respect and admiration for them. Celebrate the day by implementing some of these ideas:
Read Books About Astronauts
One super way to celebrate and enjoy National Astronaut Day would be to get more educated and learn more about who astronauts are and what they do. An excellent option would be to read a biography about an astronaut. Choose from one of these (or read them all!):
Through the Glass Ceiling to the Stars by Col. Eileen M. Collins (2022). Read the story of this woman who was an aviation pioneer among her peers, as one of the most recognized and admired women in the world.
First Man, The Life of Neil A. Armstrong by James R. Hansen (2005). This biography tells the story of the first man who walked on the moon.
John Glenn, A Memoir by John Glenn (1999). This autobiography reveals interesting details that could only come from an insider not only to the space program but also for American politics.
Sally Ride: America’s First Woman in Space by Lynn Sherr (2014). This definitive biography reveals exclusive highlights from Sally Ride’s family and partner.
Learn Fun Facts About Astronauts
When you celebrate National Astronaut Day, it might be fun to collect some interesting facts that can be shared with friends and family members to raise awareness for the day.
For instance, did you know that astronauts actually have to wear a special kind of diaper? That’s right, these are called ‘maximum absorbency garments’ that need to be worn when they go on long space walks or wear heavy equipment that is difficult to take off and on.
Not only that, but when in space, the bones and muscles of astronauts can easily waste away, so it’s important that astronauts work hard to get enough exercise. Plus, because of microgravity, astronauts can actually get up to 3% taller after spending time in space. They’ll eventually return to their normal height after three to four months back on earth.
Finally, if an astronaut cries in space, their tears don’t roll down their cheeks. Instead, they simply collect on their faces to create large globules of tears. So sad!
Watch a Film About Astronauts
Get involved with the adventure of a lifetime by watching a documentary film showing all about space travel. Or, try watching a movie that was made to portray the unique stories of the various astronauts who have been part of the space program for the last five decades and more, such as one of these:
Apollo 13 (1995). This movie directed by Ron Howard has an all-star cast including Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon and Bill Paxton, is based on the true story of the Apollo 13 space mission to the moon that was aborted and almost ended in a fatal disaster.
First Man (2018). Based on the book of the same name by James R. Hansen, this movie follows the story of Neil A. Armstrong (played by Ryan Gosling) leading up to the Apollo 11 mission to the moon in 1969.
The Right Stuff (1983). This epic historical film drama is based on the non-fiction novel of the same name, which tells the details of the first 15 years of the US space program. Starring Ed Harris and Scott Glenn.
Lucy in the Sky (2019). Featuring Natalie Portman, this film is loosely based on the life of astronaut Lisa Nowak who was in space in 2006 and spent her time controlling the robotic arms of the International Space Station.
Throw a National Astronaut Day Party
Whether it’s a group of teachers hosting a National Astronaut Day party at school for their students or a gathering of friends who get together to celebrate and honor the day at home, this is a great time to host a party!
Invite guests to wear a space themed costume if they would enjoy dressing up. Serve snacks that are themed around the idea of rocket ships, stars, space, the moon and more. It would be fun to be entertained by playing various games that go along with the theme of astronauts, or watch a film or documentary to help with learning more about who astronauts are and what they do.
Finally, during the party, don’t forget to play a space themed list of music that will keep things moving. Choose songs like Space Oddity (aka Ground Control to Major Tom) by David Bowie; Rocket Man by Elton John; or Man on the Moon by R.E.M.
National Astronaut Day FAQs
