Thank you! I did remember eric thinking about the gang as the Beatles but not really them listening to the Beatles on the show and I always thought that was a lil weird? I am not a listener and they are way before my time but like they are the biggest band in the world and weren’t they huge in the 1970s? It would make total sense for them all to be Beatles fans I think
The Beatles broke up circa 1970, at the very beginning of the 70s. Eric happily compares the gang to The Beatles on multiple occasions, so he's an obvious canonical fan, and Hyde wears a Beatles shirt at one point. I can see Donna being a fan, too. Kelso and Fez like the weird stuff, imo.
Eric is canonically a fan of The Beatles, Wings (given the poster), Styx, Aerosmith, Rush, Air Supply, Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and KISS. I can see him growing out of the last two, since Pink Floyd has massive stoner vibes, and KISS seems to be a phase of his in the earlier seasons. I kind of base this off my Eric-y dad, as my Donna-ish mom divulged that he used to be a fan of hard rock, and I was surprised. He also says that he likes Lynyrd Skynyrd (saying that it's a quintessential American band), but that band screams more Hyde to me.
As for Donna, she's canonically a fan of Led Zeppelin, Pat Benatar, Kansas (she wore a t-shirt in season 7), and Janis Joplin. She also says she loves The Talking Heads in season 8 because there's a girl in the band, but at large, they seem more like a Kelso-y band to me. Fleetwood Mac has way more of a Donna-ish vibe, imo.
For Jackie, she canonically likes ABBA, Captain and Tennille, The Carpenters, and Peter Frampton. For the latter, she loved the guitar solo.
Hyde, on the other hand, wears so many band tees. Led Zeppelin (he wears lots of them), The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull, Aerosmith, AC/DC, The Allman Brothers Band, and The Grateful Dead. He totally took that Beatles tee from Eric, imo. He also listens to The Sex Pistols and Blue Oyster Cult, and tells Eric to be like Bruce Springsteen and not like Simon and Garfunkel in season 4. He, along with Eric, compares Eric Clapton to God. And he dances to Sinatra. :)
Meanwhile, Kelso's canonically a fan of KISS, Foghat, and Molly Hatchet, and Fez is canonically a fan of Stevie Wonder.

One of these days I need to write more of Darryl and Scratch playfully teasing Molly over her relationship with Libby, as brothers tend to do. (Source: am a brother.) Even had an idea for a oneshot where Molly tries learning the guitar to serenade Libby.
(Scene: Molly on the couch with an acoustic guitar in her lap and reading a "Complete Moron's Guide to Guitar," flanked by Scratch and Darryl.)
Darryl: "Alright you've been practicing that thing for days, let's go Simon and Garfunkel."
Scratch: "Yeah come on Hall and Oates, whatcha waiting for?"
Darryl: (nudging Molly, who grips her book tighter) "Let's hear what you got, Loggins and Messina."
Scratch: (elbowing Molly's side, making her growl) "Hurry up, Rodgers and Hammerstein."
Molly: "Okay why am I two people?! If you're gonna tease me at least have it make sense!"

hey so I feel like this sounds weird but: it being easier to listen to music has made me know music less well
I remember when I was a teenager and I didn't have any kind of mp3 player or anything and I would print out the lyrics to my favorite songs so I could sing them to myself when I couldn't listen to music
and now I can sing along to music I'm listening to, but I can't sing it without listening to it. I was bored at work today doing all this new hire paperwork shit and started singing to myself in the break room and the only songs I could think of were three things I learned in choir as a kid, and for some reason Such A Loser by Garfunkel and Oates, presumably because I listened to it on repeat for like three days a while back. most of the stuff I listen to and love I don't know well enough to sing. and that feels like a loss.
maybe I need to find a little notebook and fill it with song lyrics. I can't sing on the bus but there has to be a time available to me that I can participate in music instead of only consuming it.
I guess the exception to this is at temple. I know the prayers I sing every week! I could do avot v'imahot off the cuff! hell if I can sing hanahaki (bloom) by molly ofgeography, though, no matter how much I've listened to it. and I definitely listen to my favorite songs more than the once or twice a week I go to temple.
when did I become silence instead of song?

Hi! Would you mind answering 1, 2 and 4 for the soft asks thingy? Hope you’re having a good day
what song makes you feel better? hmmmm, there are a lot really, mostly old songs my mom used to play in the car, so a lot of Nat King Cole, John Denver, and Simon & Garfunkel. If I had to pick one, maybe The Hawk and The Eagle (John Denver)?
2. what’s your feel-good movie? I have a handful of movies I go for when I'm just needing to watch something I know by heart and can wrap around me like a blanket. The Last Unicorn (classic, gorgeous work, and Molly Gru's speech is done so well), Krull (look at baby Liam Neeson in one of his first roles! Giggle at the bad dialogue and hammy acting from the lead! Look at that very well done stop motion giant spider!), Fantastic Planet (lets hear it for amazing niche science fiction! This movie is paper cut animation! And it's actually the first movie i can remember seeing, ever. Mom had a VHS copy when i was a kid and I loved it, but wasn't allowed to watch it as much as some bc mom didn't want to wear it out, because it was the only copy she'd ever been able to find), and Knives Out (a more recent edition but idk it's just so satisfying) are a few.
4. what flower would you like to be given? Hyacinths and sunflowers are my favorites!

Any band that offers Simon & Garfunkel —and in particular Homeward Bound —at a sweaty-macho heavy rock show earns our unswerving respect! Some don’t know the song was written (by Paul Simon) about a return trip he was lokking forward to making to England (in 1964) and perhaps that song-fact inspired Belfast friends Mollie McGinn and Orlaith Forsythe of DEA MATRONA (literally, mother goddess) to…

41 Songs for Summer 2021
In this post, I will be sharing 41 of my current favorite songs. While I did curate this list over the past week, there is not actually a summer theme to it. You can listen to the corresponding Spotify playlist here. If you like my recommendation-style posts, check out some of my favorite podcasts, YouTube channels, and books. This post is a bit different in that I’m not actually going to talk about and justify each song. The core of this list consists of 3-5 songs from each of my top musical artists/bands. Note that I’ve listed the songs in alphabetical order and marked my top pick with an asterisk. If you’re curious to read more about my musical history, click here.
James Taylor has been my favorite musical artist for as long as I can remember. He is an extremely talented songwriter, guitar player, and singer. Here are five of what I consider his best songs.
Carolina in My Mind
Fire and Rain
Secret of Life
Something In The Way She Moves
You Can Close Your Eyes*
The Chicks (formerly the Dixie Chicks) has been my favorite band for quite a while. They are a country band consisting of lead singer Natalie Maines and sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer on vocals and instrumentals.
I’ll Take Care of You
Landslide
Loving Arms
Not Ready to Make Nice
Wide Open Spaces*
Brandi Carlile is actually a band consisting of Brandi Carlile and identical twins Phil and Tim Hanseroth. I rediscovered their music last semester and have been listening to it a lot recently. I absolutely love the songs listed below but will point out that there is a good chunk of their music that I don’t particularly like.
Caroline
Every Time I Hear That Song
Forever Young
The Joke
The Story*
Red Molly is a folk trio consisting of Laurie MacAllister, Abbie Gardner, and Molly Venter. In contrast to Brandi Carlile, I enjoy almost all of their music, but few of their songs would, on their own, make my list of favorites.
Do I Ever Cross Your Mind*
Hold It All
Sing to Me
Simon and Garfunkel were a folk-rock duo consisting of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. It wasn't until compiling this list of favorite songs that I realized they deserved special recognition. With that said, I listen to a very limited number of their songs and wouldn’t typically consider them a favorite.
Homeward Bound
The Boxer*
The Sound of Silence
The next selection of songs is made up of ten of my all-time favorites.
Closer to Fine
Coat of Many Colors*
Cold Hearts / Closed Minds
Eyes of a Painter
Halley Came to Jackson
Leaving On a Jet Plane
Slip Slidin' Away
So Far Away
The Circle Game
The Fairest Dogwood Bloom
The Line Between
The Parting Glass
Yesterday
Your Song
You're So Vain
To round out the list, here are a few songs that have some sort of sentimental value and remind me of my childhood and/or family.
I Will
Our House
Some of Shelly's Blues*
The Roseville Fair
Will You Love Me Tomorrow?
