Shadow and Flame pt 4
Azriel X Reader
Warnings: Angst, mentions but no description of torture, mentions of burns, punchable High Lords
A/N: Okay Part 4, added action and suspense with higher stakes hehe Please let me know what you think, your words are so encouraging. Also as an aside Lúdás is an Irish word for traitor, a little trivia in there for you, without the fadas for ease of your own pronunciation.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
*********
Drip, drip, drip.
You rolled the back of your head along the damp brick, trying to release tension from your shoulders, knees cuddled into your chest for some ounce of warmth. Your hollowed eyes resembled the deep chasms beneath the Autumn Court where your cell rotted and shuddered. The soaking air leeching any semblance of inferno from you.
Drip, drip, drip.
You groaned at the sounds of your Father's guards passing through the jail corridors, throwing a glance towards you as they marked your presence. Three months of the same routine. Three months since your father rebroke your bones and shattered your soul but Azriel was safe, Velaris was safe. A consolation prize. You had stopped crying soon after being locked down there, mourning a life for a moment you thought you could have.
Drip, drip, drip.
*********
“At what point do we just get a big net and steal him away in the night?”
“It's not funny Cass” Feyre reprimanded the Illyrian, the Inner Circle gathered for a family dinner in The House Of Wind, Azriel notably absent. Plates piled high with food went untouched as you were once again the topic of conversation.
“Well it's gone beyond sulking, he's locked up in his room, staring at a candle he won't let anyone blow out, he's frightening the staff'' Amren glanced towards the staircase leading in the direction of Azriels chambers.
Elain lurched forward suddenly, the table turning to her in confusion.
“Something is- something is wrong with Lucien” the table looked frantic between one another. No one had seen Lucien since Azriel had all but banished him from the circle. Cassian flew from the chair up the stairs, crashing into Azriels chambers to find it empty.
“Azriels gone!” Panic grew in all of them. Had he gone back for more? The table dispersed in chaos, darting in different directions to where they believed they'd find the two.
*****
“Azriel, this is becoming very much too Illyrian for me” Lucien stood suppressing his shaking legs, blood running from his face.
“No such thing” Azriels eyes were wild, scorch marks scratching his leathers. The two stood warrior stance ready, books, papers, and furniture askew across the scope of Lucien's office in Velaris. Azriel had had enough, enough waiting, enough wondering, enough hurting. He believed you ran from him that night three months ago and he had become determined to find you again, to beg for clarity. Lucien had the information he needed, he was able to get to you before and he would help Azriel get you now, even if Illyrian persuasion was needed.
“I will not tell you about YN, I do not know the answers to your questions” Not all untrue for the Prince of Foxes. He had begged his father for leniency towards you, offered himself for replacement but it was no good, he was iced out by his family's court once again. Lucien couldn't tell him any of that, he didn't want Azriel chasing Autumn's Daughter enraging their father further
“You lie!”
“I do not! And I do not understand this infatuation-”
“Infatuation! That's what YN said I had that day in the woods, that came from you! Now tell me your meeting place!” Azriel threw his shadows to slam into Lucien, knocking him for a moment off balance. That's all Azriel needed, he sprung for the Emissary, pinning him to the bookcase of his study, sending more books crashing. Truth Teller now in hand, Lucien allowed panic to show in his eyes as Azriels raged in storms and clouded pain.
“I-will-not-tell-you-where-my-sister-is” Lucien choked out, face rapidly losing colour. Sister. Sister. Sister. The word crashed over Azriel, he released the pressure stepping back. Lucien caught his throat and massaged his crushed windpipe. Shit he thought, blaming the temporary cut-off of oxygen on his admission.
“Azriel!” Rhysand winnowed into the chaotic scene with Cassian by his side. Azriel stood, pale face, processing.
“You lie again Emissary” he seethed
“I do not, she is the Autumn Court's daughter, my…our father's pride and joy. She is…she is his to use” he slumped slightly, the nature of the Court of Autumn's conduct always a source of disgrace for him. Azriel pushed his mind from having an existential crisis, his whole purpose for existing was to know everything about everyone and you had fully slipped through the cracks, what else had he missed in work?
“Oh my Gods, Az you fucked Lucien's sister” Cassian broke the silence in a very Cassian way, Rhysand hitting him in the chest.
“You. What?” Lucien bit out, flames came to his side once more, cocking his head in challenge.
“I-” Lucien leapt forward tackling the conflicted Shadowsinger, sending him sailing to the ground as they rolled in hand-to-hand combat. Cassian caught Rhysands arm, pulling him back from intervening with a “let them at it” facial expression.
“FIRST YOU COME FOR MY MATE! THEN YOU COME FOR MY SISTER! IS NOTHING SACRED TO YOU HEATHENS!” Lucien blared as Azriel rolled, using his wings for the upper hand, rolling until he was on top of Lucien.
“YOUR FUCKING SISTER IS MY MATE” Azriel had Lucien pinned by the arms to the floor as he roared, the air almost sucked from the room at the silence that followed. Azriel let Lucien's arms go with a thud before standing again, dusting the soot off his leathers. Lucien pushed up off the floor, wiping a forearm along his bloody lip.

“Az” Rhysand tried softly as Azriel strode over to look out the window of the study, down on the winding streets of his beloved city. He raised his hand without facing the three, needing a moment of reprieve.
Lucien looked at Azriels two lost Illyrian brothers before moving cautiously behind the Shadowsinger, laying the most gentle of hands on one of his shoulders, soft heat radiating through.
“Azri- Az we will get my sis- your Mate back” Azriels wings slumped slightly at his frenemy's words.
A maroon envelope burst into the room to land on Luciens desk, the four looking conflicted towards it.
***************
“Stand” the darkened figures' chilling voice carried through the dimly lit passageway and across the cell bars. You released a breath from your long broken soul before standing on weakened wobbly legs, the weighted shackles tethering your wrists grinding against your movement. Rings of water encased in the shackles for good measure.
“Arm” was grunted at you as the cell door unlocked itself allowing the males to step in.
“Ludas, we went to training camp together. Can you at least look at me when you order me around?” you raised your eyebrow to the tall male figure in front of you. The back of his hand sliced into your face with centuries of training and force, sending you crashing to the floor swearing as you slammed into it.
“Do not speak out of turn”
“Oh I am so telling your mother when I get out of here” you scoffed, spitting the blood in your mouth at his shoes and pushing back off the rocky wet ground, the male slightly tensing at your words.
“Get it over with, whatever lashings you have” you threw out your arm and closed your eyes waiting for the whip that didn't come. Only a weight release from your wrist. Your eyelids shot open to find your shackles smashing to the floor, metal bracelets filled with water replacing them. Before you could question, a hood was thrown over your head, and a weight shot into your stomach as you sailed over Ludas’ shoulder.
You landed with a thud on a cold solid floor, the sound of flame whispering sorrows for you. The hood was snatched, blinding sunlight sent your head screaming as you tried to adjust after three months below the Court.
Your focusing eyes landed on Eris' face, who looked as though he'd seen a ghost and in some way that's what you were. Your copper eyes greying, mud and moss coating your hair, shirt and trousers torn to shreds from the beatings and rats you fought off nightly. A long call from the copper princess he saw you as the last time he saw you. Another deserter you thought to yourself.
“Stand and smile Daughter-” your screaming eyes shot to the male sitting on the throne of your people.
“-it's the eve of your wedding day after all” vertigo. You felt vertigo. Your eyes spinning in your skull, unable to summon any ounce of strength until darkness met you once more.
******
Lucien walked slowly towards the envelope as if it could strike him at any moment. The three watched, Azriel’s stomach beginning to do turns on itself. The headed paper slipped from its casing, the Autumn Court emblem proudly on display. Lucien's sorrowful gaze read down the sheet as if it were his very own life sentence but it was yours. The paper fell from his shaking hands to the floor beneath him as he turned and vomited into the filing cabinet adjacent. A wedding invitation addressed to the Night Court members.
**********
You woke up to the warmth of fire, fire not belonging to you, unsettling you instantly. You sat up in the brick red sheets, ignoring the whirlpool headache growing in you. You felt different, you felt clean. You looked down to see deep forest green silk covering you, your hand shooting to your now soft and shiny hair. Your trembling legs brought you to the mirror in the room you didn't recognise. You had returned to your beauty as if the past few months never happened. But there in the mirror, you saw the staunch reminder that it very much did, the metal and water bracelets swirling around your wrist like the bonds they were, tethering you without chains. Your hand found a small scar along your lip where Ludas had marked you, it still trying to stitch together under your weakened powers.
Your eyes frantically searched the room for the door out, with none to be found, you had been winnowed into this new plush cell. You felt yourself roar. Roar and roar and roar.
“YN! You'll wake the hounds!” You whipped around to your father's voice, how long had he been there? He looked so put together, so reserved, nowhere near the man who roasted your skin on flames of rage three months previous.
“Leave me go, I've done my time, I-”
“Now does that sound very like me?” Beron laughed sickly, sitting himself down on the sofa, arms spread along the back, the picture of ease, his wild flame daughter tamed. He looked at you like you were his pawn to play and you had never felt so much so.
“The Shadowsinger was an interesting side quest for you wasn't it?”
“Stop” he laughed at your attempt at defiance, you couldn't hear him speak of Azriel, he'd shatter you all over again.
“Tomorrow you will marry the General of the Vallahan Legion-”
“-I will do no such thing!” You snapped, your father standing back to his feet.
“This back-chatting is getting out of hand, where's my malleable piece of copper gone?”
“You killed her” you said so eerily calm, unwavering steeliness growing in you.
“Well I suggest she resurrects herself ahead of her nuptials” ice dripping from his voice as his searing touch caught your wrist pulling you in.
“Vallahan will be powerful allies and I have graves picked out for you and your brother's precious night court. You will behave. You will do as I say or you will join them in the dirt”
“I will go to my grave regardless if you make me marry him”
“That can be arranged once you've signed the dotted line for all I care” and you believed him. He didn't care once his pawn had moved into place who took her out. He stood again, easing over in your direction, his flames leaping to life, willing to ignite chaos at their master’s will.
“I hope you’ll cheer up dear, you’ll make your guests so very sad seeing a weeping bride, although not that they’ll be smiling for long” you went cold at his tone, what does that mean you screamed inside your head and he laughed as if he could hear you.
“Well now YN, you know very well that I enjoy killing two birds with one stone”
“What are you planning?”
“Oh please don’t say it with such hatred. I’m giving you a wedding present, one last look at your beloved Shadowsinger” your eyes went wild at his words, you moved to lunge for him in pure unadulterated anger but his flames wrapped around you pulling you to the ground without burning you.
“Sleep well my piece of copper, big day for you tomorrow, I'm so proud” he caught your chin so roughly, eyes piercing through you, releasing your face with a jolt and dissolving into flame.

TransID Journal Club - Entry #1
Hi all! I don't know if I'm going to make this an actual series that I'll have the time or energy for, but I decided I'd at least try and go for it! For you see, in my spare time I sometimes like to search around for papers or book related to non-gender/sex transidentities (typically related to the most well-known at the moment, so transrace, transabled, transage) and find ones I wish I could discuss with others. So that's what this may or may not be!
So for this entry, I'd like to discuss this paper published last year in the open access journal Public Health Challenges: Health intervention trials involving transgender, transabled and transracial persons in Africa: A scoping review.
Some quick terminology: a scoping review comprises a wider overview of the literature of a topic, which is differentiated from a systematic review that uses critical appraisal to assess the reliability of each study. A scoping review can be used to cast a wide net on the overall scientific knowledge of a topic that could then later be narrowed down by a systematic review.
What I first find interesting about this paper are the authors: they all appear to have credentials from Nigerian universities. The lead and secondary authors also have credentials from the UK, but this appears to be a paper written by African scientists about the public health of African trans folk.
What is also great is of course that the point of this review is, quote "...to review the existing health intervention trials involving transgender, transabled and transracial persons in Africa." They also make a point to note that "...it involves high-risk groups such as the trans-communities." So right at the beginning of the paper, we know we are looking at a paper that considers transgender, transabled, and transracial people to be considered trans-communities and that these communities are high-risk for health issues, particularly in areas such as in African countries.
They state that, "...no comprehensive scoping review has been undertaken to assess the evidence and gaps in health trials involving transgender, transabled and transracial populations. The findings of such a review would enlighten both the global and African scientific and public communities about the current status of research in this area, thereby guiding future research endeavours and public health initiatives aimed at improving the health and well-being of these marginalized groups in Africa."
The results are unfortunately not all that surprising. Out of 171 papers, only 4 were found to be relevant to the scope of this review. All 4 papers were related to the health of transgender Africans; there were no papers to be found regarding the health of transabled or transracial Africans. These 4 papers were also all related to HIV; there weren't any related to any other health issues. While unfortunate that there is so little else, it does make sense that the primary focus at least would be related to the health of transgender Africans with HIV.
The authors seem to agree, as they say in their conclusion that "It is commendable that some studies involved transgender individuals despite their marginalization in most African societies. However, more studies are required in different spheres of their health, not only concerning sexual behaviour." They also state that "The reviewed studies involved transgender individuals, as there were no eligible articles involving transabled and transracial individuals in Africa, neglecting other health domains. The main limitation of the reviewed articles is the reductionism of sexuality regarding transgender behaviour."
Overall, there is an very large gap of knowledge in trans Africans communities, even those who are transgender due to the stigma surrounding such communities. This paper really stood out to me that the authors even bothered to attempt to include the health of transabled and transrace individuals, let alone those in African countries. It's already difficult enough to find any such things for these and other transidentities in the imperial core. I'm sure they probably knew finding anything would be a lost cause, but including the lack of such information is information in and of itself, highlighting how there needs to be more collected about minority trans communities that aren't just transgender. I really commend them for writing an entire paper, though small, about this!

Understanding the Types of Literature Review: A Comprehensive Guide
Understanding types of literature review: A comprehensive guide.
Literature reviews are critical components of academic research that give an overview of the available knowledge relating to a particular topic. This helps to identify gaps, forms a basis for further research, and grounds the study on established theory and evidence. Literature reviews, however, do not fit in one single type. Rather they are of different types. Each depends on the purpose and approach of the research. Let's have a detailed view of the types of literature reviews. ### 1. Narrative Review
A narrative review, sometimes known as the traditional one, gives a general overview of research regarding a particular topic. It is descriptive and focuses on summarizing and synthesizing findings without much depth analysis.
Key Features:
Focuses on storytelling and descriptive summary. - Majorly used in fields such as humanities and social sciences.
Lacks a systematic methodology for selecting studies, which can lead to bias.
Purpose:
Narrative reviews are ideal for understanding a topic broadly and identifying general trends or patterns in the literature.
2. Systematic Review
A systematic review is a rigorous and structured approach to synthesizing research. It follows a predefined protocol to ensure transparency, reproducibility, and comprehensiveness.
Key Features:
Has explicit inclusion and exclusion criteria.
Is planned in databases systematically to find studies.
Keeps bias at a minimum by having a clear methodology.
Purpose:
Systematic reviews are applied to answer particular research questions, especially in fields like healthcare, psychology, and social sciences. Systematic reviews come with immense value because of their reliability and objectivity.
3. Meta-Analysis
A meta-analysis is a type of systematic review that pools data from many studies together using statistical methods to make their own synthesis, which tries to produce a quantitative overview of research findings.
Key Features:
Assumes all studies share similarities in methodology to compare them. - Offers results with statistical significance by combining data. - Is considered a demanding statistical process.
Meta-analyses are commonly used in medicine and psychology to determine the effectiveness of interventions or treatments. ***
4. Scoping Review
Scoping reviews are exploratory and aim to map the breadth and scope of research on a topic. Less focused on answering specific questions and more on identifying research gaps, they are considered exploratory. #### Key Features:
Wide inclusion criteria, casting a net to encompass all aspects of a topic. Does not critically evaluate the quality of included studies in depth. Often a precursor to a systematic review. #### Purpose:
Scoping reviews are suitable for nascent research areas or subjects where there are a few published studies to date.
5. Integrative Review
An integrative review combines qualitative and quantitative research to achieve a holistic understanding of the topic under review. * Key Features:
It integrates data based on diverse methodologies.
This integration encourages innovation.
It is useful in the development of theories or models * Purpose:
It is common to find such reviews in nursing, education, and healthcare research where mixed methods are often employed.
6. Critical Review
A critical review evaluates and critiques existing literature, often proposing new frameworks or perspectives.
Key Features:
Involves in-depth analysis and interpretation.
Challenges existing assumptions or theories.
Requires a strong theoretical foundation.
Purpose:
Critical reviews are ideal for advanced academic writing, such as dissertations and theoretical papers.
7. Theoretical Review
Theoretical reviews focus on examining theories related to a topic rather than empirical research.
Key Features:
Compares and contrasts different theoretical frameworks.
Identifies theoretical gaps.
Explores the evolution of ideas over time.
Purpose:
These reviews are often used in disciplines like sociology, philosophy, and psychology to refine or propose theoretical models.
8. Annotated Bibliography
A much simpler form of literature review is the annotated bibliography-an overview and critique of each source.
Key Features:
Lists sources with brief descriptions and critiques. Not synthesizing findings from the studies. Serves as a precursor to further developed reviews.
Purpose:
This type is commonly used for coursework or preliminary research to organize sources.
Conclusion
Each type of literature review has a specific purpose and is appropriate for a range of research objectives. Whether the use is about embracing broad trends in a narrative review or diving deep in statistical relationships as in meta-analysis, awareness of the types can guide you towards choosing the right approach for your study. The right type chosen ensures that your research not only becomes more robust but also relevant and impactful in its field. Mastering the art of literature review will keep researchers conversing effectively in the academic arenas while paving a way to make further discoveries.

The fucking void.
I mean, dbh void

❯ Androids VS Laws theory
❯ Android deviancy theory + weak HCs [Docs]
❯ RK Connor series theory + weak HCs [Docs]
➫ Android functionality:
❯ Android interfacing
❯ Android temperature
➫ Game overall exploration:
❯ All DBH Firearms
❯ Kara and Connor public image assumption

Tumblr gonna make everything difficult with these tag results getting bugged so good luck (for me, not for you)
→ #dbh observation list (generalization)
Mix of posts about dbh universe I think should be remembered. May contain relevant analyzes, theories, discussions and curiosities.
→ #dbh scenery details
I'll be using this tag everytime I see a post with scenery details like interiors or, well, environment DETAILS - but what i judge "interesting" 🥃😁
→ #dbh relevant android shots
Pretty forward. I'll be using this tag when i find relevant screenshots (or official concept arts) of androids like anatomy and mods related to that (also "gore"). Let's celebrate the droidhood 🤧
→ #dbh skinless android fanart comp
It's so fucking difficult finding fanarts with skinless androids or shit highlighting this side around the net. I'm dedicating this tag to all heroes that think androids are cool the way they really are 🫡
→ #dbh mods tutorial collection
I'll be using this tag for dbh mods. No, not those edits u see around, i'm talking about "tutorials" or people explaining how they did X thing and also how things work.
→ #dbh androids x guns
Androids and guns shouldn't be treated like evil, bad like the game wants u to believe. So why not make a tag for fanarts, GIFs and screenshots of androids with guns? 🤷🏾‍♂️
→ #dbh interesting fanfics
I'll be using this tag everytime i find some interesting fanfics (or pieces of fics and ideas) around the net.
-> #dbh: how i think shit works

Financial Documents for Visa - CA Report, Property Evaluation, Liquid Funds, Income Proofs
Tumblr media
Financial Documents for Visa – Globexa Immigration
When preparing a visa application—whether it’s for a Canada Study Visa, Visitor Visa, Spouse Visa, or Work Permit—one of the most frequently asked questions is:
“Do I really need to attach documents like a CA report, property evaluation, liquid funds proof, and income statements?”
Let’s break down this essential topic and answer all those doubts through real-world insights and CAPS notes—the visa officer’s detailed remarks on your application.
1. Understanding the Role of Financial Documents in Visa Applications
It’s common for applicants to say:
“My friend applied for a study visa without a CA report, property evaluation, or proof of liquid funds and still got approved. Why are you asking me to spend ₹5,000–₹10,000 on these documents?”
Here’s the truth: financial documentation is critical for your visa application’s success, especially when applying to developed countries like Canada.
Yes, your friend might have been lucky, but visa approvals should not depend on luck. Instead, they should rely on a complete and credible file, supported by professional documentation that reflects your financial stability.
2. What Are CAP Notes & Why Should You Care?
CAPS notes (Computer Assisted Processing System) are internal notes written by visa officers explaining the reasoning behind their decision—approval or refusal.
While most notes from India-based visa processing centers may seem vague or generic, CAPS notes from Canadian embassies in Abu Dhabi are often highly detailed. They reflect exactly how your documents were assessed.
In one such CAP note, the visa officer clearly stated:
“Applicant’s valuation and Chartered Accountant documents reviewed. Will not be considered given that the reports are paid-for documents without evidence. Do not include funds that have not already been reviewed.”
This is a game-changer.
It tells us that a CA report alone is not enough. You must attach proof of each asset, bank balance, or income mentioned in the report. Otherwise, the document is just paper without credibility.
3. Breaking Down the Financial Documents You Must Attach
1. CA Report – Net Worth Summary
This is a document prepared by a Chartered Accountant summarizing your:
Fixed Assets (e.g., properties, vehicles)
Liquid Assets (e.g., bank balances, FDs)
Family Income
🟡 Important: This report serves as a summary. It does not replace actual proofs. Every item mentioned must be supported by valid documentation.
2. Property Evaluation Report
If the CA report mentions a property, you must also attach:
A Property Valuation Report by a certified evaluator or civil engineer, OR
A Registered Sale Deed showing the purchase amount.
💡 A CA is not qualified to value real estate. Therefore, any property mentioned needs a proper valuation certificate or legal proof.
3. Liquid Funds Proof
Liquid funds (such as savings accounts, fixed deposits, mutual funds) must be supported with:
Bank Statements
FD Certificates
Mutual Fund Holdings
If your CA mentions ₹10 lakhs in liquid assets, you need to show where and how those ₹10 lakhs exist.
4. Income Proof
Mentioning a ₹10 lakh family income means nothing unless you provide:
ITR Returns
Salary Slips
Business Income Statements
Bank Account Statements Showing Regular Income
📌 No supporting documents = No validity.
4. What Happens If You Don’t Attach These Proofs?
You are unintentionally weakening your case and increasing the chances of refusal.
In the CAP notes from the example above, the visa officer rejected the CA report because there was no evidence attached for the assets or income mentioned.
👉 Moral of the story: Even if you attach a CA report, if you don’t attach proofs, it’s as good as not attaching anything.
5. The Cost vs. Value of Financial Documents
Some applicants hesitate due to cost. But let’s look at the numbers:
Document Estimated Cost CA Report ₹2,000–₹3,000
Property Valuation ₹2,000–₹5,000 per property
Total< ₹10,000
Now compare that to your total study visa cost of ₹20–25 lakhs or more. Spending less than ₹10,000 for something that can significantly improve your visa success rate is not an expense—it’s an investment.
6. Final Thoughts: Don’t Take Shortcuts
Whether you’re applying for a Canada Study Visa, UK Spouse Visa, or New Zealand Work Visa, the rule is the same: complete documentation matters.
If you don’t want to take risks and reduce your visa chances, don’t skip these documents. They show your financial credibility and are often a key reason for visa approval or rejection.
7. Need Expert Help with Your Visa File?
At Globexa Immigration, we help you prepare a complete visa file that includes:
Verified CA Reports
Accurate Property Valuations
Proofs for Liquid Assets and Income
Application Filing & Follow-ups
🌍 Whether you want to apply alone or with family—to Canada, UK, Finland, or New Zealand—we’re here to guide you every step of the way.

Why Do Students Struggle With Newton’s Laws 2025
Tumblr media
Why Do Students Struggle With Newton’s Laws 2025
Book Answer (The Proper Textbook Version) Newton's Laws of Motion describe the relationship between the motion of an object and the forces acting upon it. These laws are: - First Law (Law of Inertia): An object remains at rest or moves in a straight line at constant speed unless acted upon by a net external force. - Second Law: The acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the net force acting on it and inversely proportional to its mass. This is expressed as F = ma. - Third Law: For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. These laws form the foundation of classical mechanics and are essential in understanding how objects move under various force interactions. The Real Talk: Why Newton’s Laws Drive Students Nuts Alright, let’s be real. Newton’s Laws might look all clean and logical on paper, but the moment you're thrown into a physics problem? Chaos. Here’s why students find this topic painfully confusing — and how to make sense of it. 1. It Sounds Too Simple (Until It Isn’t) “An object in motion stays in motion…” Cool, right? Until your brain goes: wait, why does a ball slow down when I throw it? Shouldn’t it just keep going? Textbooks say “net force,” but gravity, friction, and other invisible forces mess with your understanding right from the start. What’s happening: You’re trying to picture ideal physics in a non-ideal world full of friction, air resistance, and annoying reality. The First Law is pure, but the real world adds complexity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Free Body Diagrams = Brain Meltdown Let’s be honest — drawing those arrows, labeling forces, figuring out what’s acting where? It can feel like assembling IKEA furniture without the manual. Why it’s confusing: Most students don’t get enough practice identifying forces. They memorize problems instead of really “seeing” the push, pull, or tension in each scenario. Fix it: Break it down. One object. One set of forces. Build slowly. 3. Second Law (F = ma) Looks Easy but Acts Sneaky “Force equals mass times acceleration” — sounds manageable until your teacher starts throwing in elevators, inclines, pulleys, and friction. Suddenly you’re lost in variables and directions. Here’s what actually helps: Realizing that F = ma isn’t a formula to plug into — it’s a way of thinking. What force is acting? What’s it doing to the motion? Don’t rush to solve; understand the story first. 4. Third Law = The Big Plot Twist You push a wall. It pushes you back. So why aren’t you flying across the room? This law just messes with intuition. The trick: Third Law pairs happen between different objects. When you push the wall, it pushes back on you — but your feet push on the floor, and friction keeps you grounded. Students struggle because they think both forces act on the same thing. Once you get this: mind = blown. 5. Too Many Words, Not Enough “Feel” Textbooks often throw a bunch of definitions at you. But Newton’s Laws are best learned with motion — pushing stuff, sliding books, tossing balls. Most students struggle because they don’t “feel” the laws in action. We read about them but don’t interact with them. That’s why physics labs or watching slow-motion videos of collisions can suddenly make the laws click. Let’s Make It Super Easy (The Fun Explanation) Still confused? Here’s Newton’s Laws in ultra-simple, human-brain-friendly words: - Law 1: Things like to chill how they are. You gotta force them to change. - Law 2: The harder you push, the more it moves — unless it's super heavy. - Law 3: Punch a wall? It punches back. Physics doesn’t care about your feelings. Boom. You just did Newtonian mechanics. Want to practice? Next time you're in a car and it suddenly stops — notice how your body wants to keep going? That’s the First Law. And your seatbelt is the external force stopping you. You’ve lived physics. Related Articles from EdgyThoughts.com: https://edgythoughts.com/why-do-students-procrastinate-despite-knowing-the-consequences-2025/ External Resource: If you want the full, technical dive: Newton's Laws of Motion (Wikipedia) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newtons_laws_of_motion Final Word Newton's Laws aren't hard because they’re impossible — they’re hard because they require a shift in how we understand motion. It’s not about memorizing formulas; it’s about observing the forces all around us and figuring out how they act. Read the full article

Internet Addiction Disorder Internet Addiction Internet Addiction Disorder is a disease that has emerged in recent years and is at the time still new in terms of identification of symptom and treatment options as well. This work will research and examine information relating to the disorder illustrated in Internet usage, or over-use according to some. Evidence of Internet Addiction Disorder Stated symptoms of Internet Addiction are: (1) Using the online services everyday without any skipping; (2) Loosing track of time after making a connection; (3) Going out less and less; (4) Spending less and less time on meals at work or at home, eating in from of the computer monitor; (5) Denial of spending too much time online; (6) Others complaining of too much time being spent online; (7) Checking email too many times a day; (8) Thinking one has the best web site of all and pushing ones' URL upon people; (9) Logging onto the Net while already busy at work; (10) Sneaking online when spouse of family members not at home with a sense of relief. (Source: Addictions and Life Page: Symptoms of Internet Addiction (2005) Retrieved from the Internet 08-20-2005. http://www.addictions.org/internet.htm) II. Symptoms & Clinical Implications Ivan Goldberg, a New York psychiatrist announced in 1995 that a new addiction had culminated which left individuals neglecting obligations to the family in order to surf the Internet. Mental health experts agree that while an invaluable service has been made available to people in many aspects the Net has also created a new addiction all its' own. Goldberg did not mean for his announcement to be taken seriously however Kimberly Young assistant professor of psychology at the University of Pittsburg at Bradford in the State of Pennsylvania believes that the disorder exists. Young conducted an exploratory study through use of a seven-item questionnaire. In Young's work Internet Addiction: The Emergency of a New Clinical Disorder Young states: This paper concludes that people can and do become addicted to the Internet, which should be a growing concern among mental health practitioners." She said that symptoms include preoccupation with the Internet, an inability to control Internet use, and restlessness or irritability when attempting to cut down on Internet use." Another who shares the view of Young is Maressa Hecht Orzack. PhD, who founded and coordinates the Computer Addiction Services at McLean Hospital in Belmont Massachusetts, Orzack states that "There are unique things here that don't seem to exist in other areas of addiction. The connection that people get from chats and e-mail is quite different than sitting there doing word-processing." According to clinical psychological and director of the Dublin, Ohio-based Mental Health Net, John Grohol "The problem is that that's not how we create new mental disorder in the scientific field of mental health. People don't just dream up the criteria and post it to the Internet. That's not the say its' done. Its' done after years of research that shows this is a distinct and unique disorder." (Nurseweek/Healthweek Interview) Interestingly, the Mental Health Net legitimated IAD by including at its Web site Goldberg's symptoms and other online addiction resources without explanation about the joke played by Goldberg'. However, Grohol has changed the page titled to Internet Addiction Disorder to read: "Due to the fact that the so-called internet addiction disorder" has not yet been validated by empirical research, we believe it to be fueling the fire behind the misinformation to publish the joke criteria for the disorder which began as a parody here." The question remaining is what to do with the masses of people seeking treatment for this disorder. A study conducted by Greenfiled and through use of one of the largest surveys on the topic of 18,000 Internet users in 1998 logging onto ABCNews.com states findings that 5.7% of the sample met criteria for compulsive Internet use. Stated is that, "Those findings square with figures from smaller studies done by others, which range from 6% to 14%. Study participants who met Greenfield's criteria (adapted from criteria for compulsive gambling) were particularly hooked on chat rooms, pornography, online shopping and e-mail, he found. About a third said they use the Internet as a form of escape or to alter their mood on a regular basis." (DeAngelis, ) Further stated as finding of the study is that addicted people were far more likely to admit feelings of losing control in their Net use than were 'nonaddicts'. According to Greenfield the loss of control is just the first of many indications of "the potency of the psychoactive nature of the Internet. Other signs are stated to include distortion of time, accelerated intimacy and decreased inhibition. 83% of those that land in the addiction bracket report a loss of boundaries while using the net compared to only 37% of those who didn't meet the criteria classifying them as addicted. Further found was the 75% of addicts' stated that they had developed feelings of intimacy for those met online compared to on 38% of those not classified as addicts'. Additionally those regularly logging onto porn sites was 62% of those classified as 'addicted' and 37.5% admitted to masturbating online. Greenfield states that: "Regardless of the technical definition of Internet addiction, there is clearly something unique and powerful going on here," Greenfield says. "The most widely affected areas seem to be marriages and relationships due to compulsive pornography, cybersex and cyberaffairs. Greenfield along with many other studies reports a "preponderance of male Internet addicts." In a study that has not been published Keith Anderson, PHD of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institution in a study of 1,300 college students found that 91 of the 103 meeting Anderson's criteria for "Internet Dependence" were indeed male. However Young's study states that men and women are both addicted pretty evenly. Men are more focused on sexual material while women focus on relationships and personal interactions according to Cooper who is Stanford University's counseling and psychological services center training coordinator at Cowell Student Health Center. The piecharts below show the statistical data collected by Young in related research. Figure 1.0 Source: Internet Addiction (2005) at: http://www.addictionrecov.org/wrkguide_www.htm Figure 2.0 Source: Internet Addiction (2005) at: http://www.addictionrecov.org/wrkguide_www.htm Figure 3.0 Source: Internet Addiction (2005) at: http://www.addictionrecov.org/wrkguide_www.htm Figure 4.0 Source: Internet Addiction (2005) at: http://www.addictionrecov.org/wrkguide_www.htm II. Assistance or Treatment for Internet Addiction Disorder Treatment for this disorder is based upon treatment for other addiction disorders and the theoretical framework applied within those treatment programs such as addiction to drugs, alcohol or other common addictions. IV. Treatment College/Employer Oriented Center for Internet Studies founder David Greenfield, PhD, in his study found that sixty percent of managers states that they had disciplined employees for online misuse and 30% had fired people for such behavior which included downloading pornography and shopping and gambling online. Further 83% of managers had written memos to employees related to the issue of internet misuse while 57% had concerns about this specific issue using various methods for enforcement with 37% stating they had software to monitor their employees. Attempts made by employers to curb this disorder causing workplace problems are putting the computers in a breakroom and limiting use of the Internet to only short periods rewarded to the employee. Keith Anderson, PhD believes that while empirical evidence is not available clinicians cannot just refuse to treat those with the dependency on the Internet. Young says "clinicians can't wait for the perfect data before they start treating people." Orzack states that "Whether it's an addiction, a symptom or a new tool, something is happening and it needs to be treated." Summary & Conclusion While this disorder was first named as somewhat of a joke, it is clear from those stating need of treatment that there is an existence of some type of addictive disorder related to the Internet. While empirical evidence does not yet exist, there is sufficient clinical evidence to warrant that clinicians develop some sort of treatment for those suffering from the addiction of the Internet. More research needs to be conducted in further study for better understanding to be gained as well as the empirical findings focused towards in future research. The Philosophical Act In the modern times, people became interested with its occurrence that they applied science to test about the life after death. Some peer-reviewed studies had found such memories in children but they remained non-conclusive because no tests were sufficient to measure it (Ward 3). It was even doubted greatly by skeptic scientists. The life after death seems to be hard to be proven. It may or may not exist. Some naturalists may just say that life will just cease once biological death approaches and consciousness will fade too. It only means that the concept of the soul is even under debate if it truly exists or not. Personally, I may think of the concept of life after death as subjective because various people have different notions regarding it. It is still not proven by science until now. For the paper regarding the life after death, the focus would be on the work of Joseph Pieper, the author of Leisure: The Basis of Culture. Pieper was a philosopher from Germany who was the primary proponent of the New Thomistic wave as a philosophy since he is part of the Catholic Church. Joseph Pieper learned various fields in social science from sociology to philosophy from popular universities. He had worked as a writer and sociologist until he pursued being a professor in the University of Munster where he also studied. His perspective was influenced greatly by the ways of Thomas Aquinas together with the ideologies of the Greek philosopher Plato. In the first chapter which is entitled The Philosophical Act, Pieper was very philosophical. The meaning was so deep in the chapter where he talked about the common good and the common need (Pieper 78).   OR Optimizing the Water Injection System in the Offshore Drilling Wells Background meant. When extracting oil from offshore wells, there pressure in the wells reduces as more (fluids petroleum) is extracted from the well. Thus, need to inject water in the well to maintain the high pressure within the well. In offshore wells, the water used from the sea, however this water is not pure and result in damaging the well, hence the need to optimize the water to obtain desired results. After the discovery of petroleum or oil has been made in an acceptable area of reserve potential, the main challenges becomes the manner in which to best optimize extraction of these petroleum in a way that produces an adequate returns on against the net expenditure needed to run the operate. As noted by Krupnick et al surface as well as subsurface situations and conditions of the discovery made have significant effect on the extraction work, related expenses and determine the success or failure of the whole project. Technical success maybe achieved but the project may fail economically. First hand experience has shown that the most technical success is easy to achieve, but economic success is much difficulty. According to Spellman, and Whiting the process of analyzing the best way to optimize extraction of recoverable reserves starts by formulation of a development plan (266). This development plan takes into consideration all existing geologic as well as engineering data and information to come up with initial ways of optimizing water injection systems Research aims The following research will have two aims: 1. What are the contaminants in sea water? 2. What are the main methods used in optimizing water for injection in the offshore wells? Research design methodology (data collection methods and analysis of data) Research Design This research will be carried out using secondary research also qualitative research. The methods used to get information will be collection, analysis and evaluation of past studies rather than primary research, as noted by Mason secondary research can obtain its data from internal or external sources (26). The current online libraries provide a source where extensive research can be carried out on this topic and latest information obtained. Methodology The research will be conducted using secondary sources, whereby it will be based on past studies that were done on the same topic in order to answer the formulated research question. The topic under discussion requires extensive resources for a researcher to carry out a primary research, this is because it would involve visiting a number of offshore wells, carrying out interviews and formulating questionnaires. Though there are some limitations towards this methods, like the researcher has to depend on views of other researchers, its main benefits is that it avails a big database of information to the research, and he can select relevant and substantial material to use in the research (Robson 78). For the sake of keeping the data to managerial size, it was thought that the research should concentrate basically on the methods used to optimize water injection in the offshore wells.   Read the full article
