I know video game remasters are just a sign they have no original ideas, but honestly I'm glad some games get them because some older games will literally make me sick. Even games I played fine when I was younger make me sick now.

Idk if it's b/c I'm older or have just gotten so used to shiny graphics, but fps games from a while ago give me motion sickness now.

And not all games need remakes (still salty srtt got the hd facelift and not sr2 when the original srtt holds up graphics wise and sr2's textures give me a headache), but some really do. Like I bounced off oblivion hard b/t the qol features being so different from Skyrim (which I played before it), and it looking like they wiped Vaseline on the camera lense. Also all the potato heads.

Then again, the silent Hill 2 remake makes me sick unless I'm walking at a snails pace so I don't fucking know.

surely. one of these images is higher definition. but which one looks BETTER? now its possible this is actually about which master copies they were working from. perhaps a rights issues? (the uk printing replaces this page with a different image) but i note here ALSO. they removed the artist, Kupperberg's, signature form the bottom left corner. a hateful affair all told.

the very first image of this post has another, red shockwave, btw. I suppose, they could be printing or colouring errors, but they could also be lighting/compositional choices by Yomtov (its not uncommon for his foreground characters to be done in monotone, particularly, purple) either way they corrected for it. and to me, this instance just comes of that whatever work flow being used, doesnt even flag the second figure AS shockwave, so a redwave remains...

i stress. i never blame any individual who does this work. its to them, just a job, and why should it not be? my ire is with IDW, and why they enact these "restorations" anyway, and why the fuck people ought to pay new money for old art that has been given so little respect...

anyway reading the print version meant a lot of tabbing between the us and uk printings. which is why i noticed this

im feeling really normally about the 4k remaster and the release of gerards character name so here r my im not okay headcanons :ppp ive drawn frank and ray maybe once ever

okay i might make these fuckerrs into a little comic because theyre eating in my brain like a little worm.... similarly to the im not okay mv the primary inspiration is rushmore but id also want to draw from like heathers and blue monday and eltingville etc

here are some screenshots w notes on them and dynamics etc

illi: glue of the group, introduces them all to each other. for the sake of this, illi and louise are not related. name is from the 4k rendition of the mv. incredibly ambitious and always creates the main idea for the schemes that the group gets up to. kind of only nonbinary due to the fact that illi is an incredibly interesting name, and a very open opportunity for me to make revenge gerard even more nonbinary. their uniform is neat and tidy, not particularly out of respect for the school, but more out of awareness of their own appearance. into fashion but doesn't really know how to deal with their hair. just lets it grow out and fucks with it in the moment. croquet mallet is blue, so draws a lot of inspiration from veronica sawyer. they/she pronouns? maybe? but i lean towards they/them.

frances: placeholder name i guess? it's important for him to have the initials "FTW" to play on both ft willis/fuck the world but i think percy also works since it's a bit of a play on pencey prep. incredibly strained relationship with louise- very different personalities is a source of conflict between them. frances has the messiest uniform because he's the least put together, and has the most carefree attitude about things. hes really into being a problem but hes an unnaturally bright student when he actually gets into doing the work - taking a page from max fischers book here lmao. chipped nail polish. wears barrettes sometimes. very clever.

louise: i've always been enamored by that interview where gerard says that the band used "louise" as a nickname for mikey so i've associated it specifically with his glasses era. no last name for now but i think it has to have the same ou sound. primary inspiration for his character is max from rushmore. used to wear his hair slicked down until illi staged an intervention and forced him and frances to hang out one-on-one and style hair. neat uniform, but doesn't fit him properly for whatever reason. hand me down? transgenderism? he's just too tall? idk! connected with adults more than peers growing up and as a result is very under-socialized. involved with student leadership at the school.

ray: ughhhhh WHYYY did he have to write ray rules on the paper it would have been so fun to make a completely new name. okay anyways i just like graham and i think it suits whatever i have built for him. undiagnosed adhd and if anything a bit of a halfway point between illi and the rest of the group. illi is really intense and cannot be stopped sometimes so graham is kind of the "babygirl i was made to understand you vision" person. yeah im getting this from the hand on shoulder and sitting closer in that one scene but be nice to me im working with like. two minutes of footage as a launching point. uniform isn't buttoned, not because of carelessness, but forgetfulness. he's a little bit inconsistent about everything he does.

the school in general: rushmore style private school, kind of dying in recent years so funding and management is all over the place. mascot used to be the dogs or something but there were copyright issues with the logo and now they are the bears.

maybe its bc arcadia bay was known for its warm hues and this just feels completely different but even the art style was changed to look more generic :((

The main reason: they made Double Exposure Max more conventionally attractive. Ironically, while Max's redesign in Double Exposure tries to make her face more unique, it winds up making her more generically pretty.

LiS1 Max was deliberately designed to look like a young, plain and mousy teenage girl. She dressed simply and safely so as to not stand out. It conveyed her shyness, awkwardness, and indecisive nature and was an example of Dontnod's eye for character design.

This Max is... I dunno. Her design doesn't say anything. I'm not even that bothered that her hairstyle changed, but it's literally Steph's hairstyle on Max's head and doesn't communicate much about Max's personality as an adult. Same goes for her clothing-- as a teen, her graphic tees and plain gray hoodie immediately depicted her as a shy, youthful wallflower in an eclectic private art school. In Double Exposure, her wardrobe is indistinguishable from any other young working professional her age: a yellow beanie, a green peacoat, blue jeans, red and blue cardigans with feminine necklines.

As for the rest of her appearance, somehow her face shape has completely changed to become more slender, especially her jawline.

LiS1 Max, with her square jaw, distinct from her chin, and dark circles.

DE Max, who suddenly has filled out cheeks, with a softer jaw that blends into her chin.

In LiS1, Max had asymmetrical lips, with the bottom lip fuller than the top lip. In Double Exposure, her lips are fuller, rounder, and perfectly symmetrical. Her nose is also more symmetrical: wider, rounder, softer, and less pointed (especially between her nostrils) than her nose in LiS1. All of this serves to soften and feminize her appearance.

While freckles can fade naturally with age, in Double Exposure, Max's freckles are barely visible in most shots. She has flawless skin with an even more realistic skin texture than the models in True Colors (which looks uncanny to me, in my opinion).

But the main thing is her eye color. In LiS1, Max had medium blue eyes that did not particularly stand out against her skintone and hair color. During the warmly lit scenes like golden hour, her eyes are desaturated even further.

But in Double Exposure, Max's eyes are suddenly ice blue, unnaturally bright and piercing. Even in dark scenes, her eyes have a sparkle to them. Unfortunately, her eye design seems to be carried over from the "anime-fied" eyes in the remaster, which were larger, shinier, and brighter than the original game. The difference is truly astounding:

LiS1 Max's eyes, which had the same texture as the rest of her model. Her irises appear dark blue with little depth.

And now, DE Max's eyes, which have a distinct "glassy" texture compared to her skin and hair. Her irises are suddenly ice blue and the pupil is larger with a very bright reflection.

I know that D9 wants to show off a new "grown up Max" who has grown into her confidence and femininity with a more cleaned-up appearance. But Max was already done with puberty in the first game, so she wouldn't suddenly be sporting a softer jawline and filled out cheeks at 28 years old. This was a huge missed opportunity to instead depict the effects of accelerated aging due to stress and trauma on Max's face: sunken cheeks, dark circles, acne, skin discoloration, and forehead wrinkles. Instead, Max Caulfield got the Hollywood beauty treatment.

contemplating the various reasons for xena being forgotten while its peers like buffy or the x files still have thriving fandoms.. its many factors but i think one it stopped being seen as a show on its own merits and became kind of a punchline and joke about lesbians in wider pop culture like it was popular it was mainstream it was regularly beating star trek in syndication and was regularly the most popular action show in international purchasing rights it was broadcast all over the world and now poof like it never existed i think a few of the problems are its been sparse on streaming for yeaars and thats how many people watch these shows secondly its not had an hd remaster and especially season one probably looks atrocious on a huge tv and the wonky old cgi probably doesnt help since so many sci fi fantasy fans seem to be weirdly difficult about bad effects anyways we need to work to get doctor who fans into xena theyre the only ones who wont say a peep about it but anyways the fact all its seen as is this lesbian show had i think two effects which is random straight viewers are not going to seek it out even if idk they loved the witcher or some other recent fantasy action adventure show its just not classed with that anymore so it loses that mainstream element it cant be part of general nerd fandom cuz its just that weird gay show and also frankly i think a lot of queer women watched the show not necessarily cuz they liked it but because it was kind of seen as like one of the few gay shows out there u see lots of women saying like now that i can watch the L word what do i need xena for when theyre like wildly different shows then compounding that with the extremely controversial finale that lead a lot of people to leave fandom feel totally heartbroken about it i think really didnt help the continuity and longevity of an already contracting fandom like season 5 was hated but also really hard to watch lots of articles on whoosh people discussing waking up at like 3am to record xena episodes cuz they were broadcast at crazy times and many countries tv networks stopped buying it or suddenly delaying release by like 8 months which was terrible for people involved in internet fandom now suddenly being way behind everyone else so way fewer people were watching the final seasons a lot more people didnt like major parts of them and it really splintered fandom as well as many people stuck by the show out of this sense of uniqueness but there were not long after xena a trickle of more gay characters and gay shows on television and with many people who felt toyed with and would be like oh they never confirmed xena and gabrielle and xena died horribly i prefer to watch the L word which doesnt toy with you about them being lesbians etc real opinions ive seen out there anyways i think these problems compound idk gay internet fandom is fickle and has often jumped between the various hot new things in a way that makes it hard to keep xena going it never really transitioned as a fandom into like the ff.net and livejournal era in a significant way and has struggled for relevance since and ultimately for reasons outlined above i think its struggled to be seen as anything other than that gay show and is viewed only in that lens its not seen as a fun complex action adventure show with fun meta elements and genre experimentation that boldly reinvents itself every few seasons but also it has failed to take hold in the one community it would continue to entice i do also think the fact of it seeming like a holdover and well the black stain of the concept of queerbait also perhaps didnt help it seemed out of date old fashioned compared to idk the hot new random gay characters on tv cuz nobody wanted to fucking tell people and remember how crazy insane and good and like bone deep thematically gay xena is and like is also just good fucking tv and also people just dont respect women thats the truth people dont care about stuff about women… ok my theoriez.. thanks for ur time

omg. thats incredible. honestly ive heard from quite a few people that pirates completely changed their view/reading of saejima (ME INCLUDED TO AN EXTENT) and it's really not that surprising to me, especially considering y4 and y5 remastered suffered from some very unfortunate localization choices for saejima specifically, obscuring/misrepresenting his character, and i thought pirates did a wayyy better job of portraying him accurately. so that makes sense to me. and thank you!! im so glad to hear u like my thoughts on them im always trying to understand what the fuck is going on with the two of them lmfao

want to talk abt 𝒀𝑶𝑼 s5 (aka the last season /sobs im gonna miss joe's delulu pro max inner monologue lmao) that i binged two days ago so spoilers ahead

first of all, i wasnt a big fan of s4. felt completely detached from the previous seasons like it was a whole diff show. and kate didnt pull me in but thats prob bc she came after love quinn (which admittedly is my favorite 'you') so ig she was bound to be overshadowed but that being said, i didnt expect her to grow on me this season ! i like that she took advantage of joe's dark side and immediately realized like shit, there are better ways to deal w this than murder. kate deserves her flowers this season!

speaking of flowers—man, ive only known anna camp from pitch perfect but girl, i truly believe she is the standout of this season (besides penn badgely ofc, this season he absolutely delivered but as he should, he's the mc). incredible acting as reagan and maddie and then maddie acting like reagan lmao

also imma need to give a shoutout to the casting crew bc i js keep looking at henry and god, he really looks like he's joe and love's son ( ಥ‿ಥ ) and speaking of love, i HOPED for an apparition or a ghost or js an appearance! and while we're on that, im so frustrated when joe talks about how bronte accepts all of him, the real him, when fuuuuuuck LOVE QUINN LITERALLY EXISTED. i will never forgive joe for killing her bc she matched his freak but ig our delulu white knight always wanted a wounded bird or someone to 'save'.

i dont hate bronte, dont love her either but on you subreddit i always see ppl commenting 'they really thought we cared about beck' but i think the beck hate is lame. im biased and loved both seasons love was in but were it not for love i think season 1 is the best you season. like not knowing how it all goes, the new york vibe, beck being messy. when bronte was talking abt how joe's parts in beck's books were pulled out and 'remastered' her book and there was a vision of beck signing books bro lowkey i wanted to cry bc yeah, she wasn't the perfect gf but she was truly passionate abt something, she had dreams. bronte may have been super flawed but what she did for beck was so wholesome. as did when kate had joe confess that he killed beck and poisoned love and started that fire (bro i loved that episode sm...wym they played exile while joe did all that ?! besides love, i REALLY wished there was a ellie cameo but ig jenna ortega was busy w wednesday s2 to do that but she couldve been on the tiktok bit where ppl all started to speak out abt how joe killed someone they knew. but then again if ellie were to speak, i think it'd be abt delilah, and well, joe didn't kill her. love did so ig there's tnat.

and the ending, some say it shouldve ended on ep 9 like w the bookstore on fire and him w the iconic glass cage but i think him getting imprisoned is necessary (also loved the guilty as in bit like ?! 'this cage was once just fine' ?!? ICOOOOONIC). wouldve loved to see the trial though. it's a fitting ending for him, to be isolated and lonely, and worst of all, be hated by henry (that 'you're the monster' bit was acc sad but it was love's last words to him. 'he will know what you are' :-) ). and js one lil think i liked abt the ending is when even as a serial killer, he receives fan mail which is like true to life. serial killers do receive fan mail and the we hear him self-pity, i did everything for true love blah blah and look at these crazies sending me mail talking about what they want me to do to them. and he was like 'maybe the problem is you.'

ofc he's always victimizing himself but i feel like it's a jab at the reality now like i cant tell u how many times ppl are simping on the comments for actual criminals on tiktok. like that asian girl who smirked in court or that guy who i think killed someone bc he was speeding. and even in the comments under you stuff you see ppl still wanting joe to get away with it. and even in the actual series you see when the PR worked, ppl started licking his ass (love that cardi b twt insert HAAHHA). pretty privilege is real bruh.

overall, i liked it. like i mentioned before im biased w love so s2 and s3 are like both my favs, but this one holds up. s4 is still the one i like the least.

This is a rly long post and sleep deprived written so be prepared

Heyo hi! my brain is currently rotting sooo I’m going to rant abt it!! wooo anygays strap in for this yap fest. Ik s4 coming out soon but let me have my fun for now 😔 Not adding s1 remaster into account until thats over I don’t want to confuse myself

First I’m just gonna start off where the characters live. I’m only gonna list out purg/mepad mansion residents +extras cause if I did hotel hoot I fear we’d be here all day so anyone I don’t mention they just live in the hotel :)

Mepad/Purg mansion-

Obviously the og group is still living here (Marsh, Apple, Bow, Dough) plus Knife now cause he’s dead (sobs) and due to ii18 ending I’m guessing Suitcase is joining also them.

It makes the most sense for Box to also live here, Suitcase and her are basically instant friends and it might be slightly awkward in the Hotel with objects like Trophy, Nickel, Balloon, TK and everyone else. She’d definitely visit the hotel a lot but her main residency would be here. 

Taco lives here mostly cause 1) guilt 2) she has a rocky relationship with both Paper and OJ and 3) its so much less chaotic then the hotel  and this girl is one anxiety attack away from cracking and ending herself 😭.  Tho she visits the hotel (and more specifically Soap & Mic) 2 times a week so it’s all good!!

TOILET LIVES IN MEPAD MANSION i scream as they drag me into the infirmary. okay so maybe I’m so brainrotted with both Sour swirl (toico) and toipad but he lives here trustttt. He’s probably reallyyy injured so he can’t go back to wherever he resides (since he’s not a part of meeple or melife) and still wants to process Mepads death so it makes sense that they nurse him back to health here. Plus everyone has a new found appreciation for him after everything!!! Go my Suitcase and Toilet friendship and Toico agenda!!!! 

Frequent visitors are Pickle, Mic, Soap, Paintbrush, Balloon, OJ and Paper. You can probably guess who’s visiting for who.

Testtubes “secret” lab-

Back with another “Star pushing their ships onto everyone” find out what happens next time on- *explodes*. Okay but seriously I feel like TT, Fan, PB and LB would be living here just as a silly poly couple. Every day is like what silly adventures do we go on today?! And every Saturday is movie night!!! God I love them.

Bot probably has a room there however, Bot lives everywhere tbh. They also have a room in the Hotel (which is rly just a shared room with Goo). Bot and Goo are like kids that the Polylights babysit a lot to the point that they’re basically all family but not rly related. Idk if that makes sense it’s 3:00 am and I’m tired as fuck ;-;

-Everyone who got killed by MephoneX in the finale has a scar where he stabbed them (he stabs them in my humanized au with a spear it just makes sense to me shhh) -Mephone4 & 3GS sometimes visit & call the contestants (mostly the ones that forgive 4 cause everyone loves 3GS lets be real) both of them are Bots goofy uncles -Lifer, TK, Taco and Soap are the official doctors/healers of the cast. Need to be bandaged up? Go to Lifer. Sick as fuck? TK will gladly make you the most delectable soup or Mac and cheese that will heal you and ur inner child. Don’t know if the berry’s you found in the woods will kill you? Taco will lecture you on the different kinds poisonous fruits. And you need cleanliness tips? *cough cough Fan cough cough* Ask Soap and she’ll give you a whole shower routine.  -On the other hand, TT, Fan and Pickle are the tech experts for everyone. -OJ teaches Suitcase how to not go bankrupt and commit tax fraud -Mepad is currently being fixed by TT -Balloon has somehow, by some miracle, has not popped yet /silly -Taco homeschools Apple sometimes! She’s doing very well and is actually able to understand most words now :)

now visually i have no problem here? its a lovely card its exactly what he looked like in the final boss fight. the final boss fight. the one after the big reveal of what he looks like. his appearance being a mystery throughout the entire game. that reveal. you can see the SECOND you get the game. imagine seeing these before playing. it would ruin it. "oh i wonder why his radio icon looks so different to his trading card!!!"

Also makes these posters really fuckin ironic huh? Who is Atlas! a mystery! Until you check the trading cards or god forbid just fucking GET Atlas. Feed back on this would be greatly appreciated i really hope im just being dumb here

was talking about it the other day but its sad how we are never going to get really big budget games w/ funky artstyles again. like if you look at the majority of big budget releases lately, they are all kind of going for the same thing as far as actual modeling goes- hi fi, super detailed complex models that try to portray as much detail as possible. which is fine for certain games, but it makes me miss the big swings devs used to take.

take street fighter 4 for instance- despite being over 10 years old at this point, it still looks REALLY good. great art direction, has a weird painterly look so everything has a cool watercolor style to it, models are expressive, etc. and this was a BIG release, its not some indie game (where most big stylistic swings tend to be made nowadays).

compared to street fighter 6, which is going for photorealism (with strong choices made as far as animation and color goes) it looks dated in the context of graphics generally, but looks WAY better than its contemporaries from the same time period. my fear is that street fighter 6 wont look that great in 10 years time.

side note, its also why street fighter 5 was really only loved by hardcore fans. it does nothing particularly well! its a halfway point between realistic and artistic to the point where it feels like a side-grade rather than an improvement or even its own original idea!

whatever leaps were made in lighting and texture quality are essentially irrelevant here. fucking gross!

the thing is, i dont think this is a deliberate choice that devs are making right now. from what i can tell, recent rendering tech has made it way easier to achieve a handful of lately- hi fi LIGHTING, increased TEXTURE DETAIL and HI POLY COUNTS come to mind. these are cool, but if youre a dev who wants to make a triple A product, you kind of have to use whatever tech is on the table to make a product look cutting edge. none of those encourage taking wild stabs at cool art directions. devs used to use those cool art directions because it was the ONLY OPTION THEY HAD.

classic case being windwaker right. the gamecube was a huge graphical leap from the n64, where even getting a model to look like something was a challenge. compared to ocarina of time, windwaker looks absolutely fucking incredible. it got a lot of pushback at the time for being too kiddy, but really the strength of its style is a result of doing as much as they possibly could with the platform they were working on. no high poly counts, the shading tech was relatively simple, and the textures (while a huge improvement over the n64!) are still basic compared to what we have today. windwaker still looks impeccable to this day, and even the HD remaster they made which, ahaha, improved WHAT

LIGHTING and TEXTURE DETAIL. but without a real consideration for the original artstyle (or why it even existed... which was the gamecubes limitations) it just looks worse.

in response to this pushback (i think, idk i didnt work at nintendo at the time) they gave twilight princess a way more "realistic" look. but given the rendering restrictions of the time, it still has a fairly robust artstyle

proportions are more realistic obviously, but in order to achieve that realism without the kind of lighting tech we have now the "lighting" is BUILT Into the textures. look at links sword, how it kind of darkens near the hilt, or how the shadow on the keese's wings is just kind of painted in specific areas. i would argue that twilight princess looks a LOT like street fighter 4 in that area-

damn! they almost look like theyre from the same game! but twilight princess was celebrated for being "realistic" while sf4 was noted for having a funky watercolor style (thats built into the focus attacks even!). its so so smart, because the devs knew they couldnt go for photorealism (like so many games of the era tried at and completely failed at!) so they went for a mix of cool stylistic decisions that allowed a game to look GOOD in a subjective, artistic way.

Not that games don't try and apply artistic principles now, but its a lot less unique. look at mario odyssey

its just a beach. and it looks great, its well rendered, but its just a beach. colors are clearly intentional and very pretty, but it's nothin that special right now, probably will look even less special in 10 years even compared to levels in the same game.

what im curious about is when are we gonna get back to that kind of artstyle meets rendering tech! if ever! current tech makes it so devs are kind of forced to go down the same boring path. look at mortal kombat 1:

im sure there are some leaps in texture and lighting, but they keep taking shortcuts. all the faces are modeled after REAL peoples faces and they mocap for expressions/conversation, which gives a really boring look to it. the fact that mk11 and mk1 look so similar so many years apart (4 i guess isnt that much but there have been leaps!) is disappointing to me.

then you have tekken 8, which is like the best looking game ive ever seen. for a while i found it hard to put my finger on why, but my brother said something really smart i feel- they made all of these models by hand. theyre essentially digital statues. they didnt pull actual face models, they just worked on their features until it looked correct. on top of the lighting and texture work, it creates a look not unlike the renders tekken has been using for years. which is convenient for them, because they can finally match the kind of real-time fidelity they've been chasing for like 30 years

hell it looks BETTER than that. so what im trying to say is im hopeful that art direction will catch up with the kind of rendering tricks/strengths we have.

i think tekken 8 feels like how soul calibur 2 probably felt at launch. does a lot of the same things given the time period

i still think hi fi rendering doesnt make for a good looking game, but rather where the focus lies for the player. for tekken it makes sense that they would focus their horsepower on detailed models and stages- youre gonna be lookin at that forever. look at elden ring

texture wise, SUPER low res for 2022. maybe even 2020. but what they do with the horsepower is genius- they focus on scale to translate locations of objectives to a player while also reinforcing the feeling of adventure, on top of extremely strong choices in color and lighting. i hope, going forward, games focus on how they can use this kind of tech to reinforce a games "gameplay mission statement" while keeping strong artistic choices present rather than focusing on being able to wow someone with a couple of screenshots at the cost of BOTH of those things. im just ranting though french press got my ass

i look at projects as "reports on my life". i used to look back and listen to my old ones for the same reason i don't today; when i listen to them, i'm instantly transported back to where and who i was when i made them, for better or for worse. when i listen to "shit happens", i feel like that desperate 17 year old kid trying to get one last word out before it's too late. when i listen to "(deadman)", i remember being the 18 year old black sheep of my family trying (and kinda failing) to take steps towards adulthood. when i listen to "life happens", i hear a 19 year old who's losing everyone around him and terrified of growing up.

"otherwrld" broke the chain because instead of reporting what's going on in my life, i created a whole new world and a whole new character: vincent. that's what you'd think, right? lol

of course, vincent is really just me! vincent is me if i never had a family or loved ones to put me on a good path and/or guide me. if i didn't have those things, i would almost certainly be an interstellar assassin from a dystopian earth. (sidenote: some things nvr change is one of my best and favorite songs i've ever made)

that brings us to "slaps 4 da spaceship" (or s4ds/slaps).

slaps was originally supposed to be a short ~5 track ep about vincent A) traveling to participate in a deadly intergalactic battle royale in pursuit of the prize, which is having one wish granted, and B) falling in love for the first time. of course, me being me, it became an entire 8 tracker which i'm dropping this friday, february 14th. life happened, though, and i ultimately came to the realization that college and creating a webcomic? not particularly sustainable or doable, especially where i'm at in each aspect of my art. i decided to lean a little less into the "concept" part because 1, i'm still mastering the art of telling a fictional story through music without making it corny and tryhardy, and 2, i've already decided i'm coming back and remaking this later.

simply put, i do not think i have it in me to write, draw, and publish my own webcomic while working on music and being a full-time college student. i thought i did but right now, i don't. as much as i wish i was (SPECIFICALLY in terms of doing this kinda thing lol), i am not andrew hussie! surprise

i've got a lot of the writing for the comic down (fucking 31 pages worth btw and thats just the outline), but that's about it. decent amount of panels but not nearly enough. animations? pfff...this shit is so time-consuming bra, and i think that even if i pushed myself to get it all out there, it wouldn't be worth it because i don't think my music or drawing is there yet. operative word being "yet". i will come back to this, because i genuinely do think this multimedia project could end up being my magnum opus. but when i do come back, i'm probably remastering otherwrld and remaking slaps. maybe i'll come back to it sooner than either of us think. who knows?

btw i recognize that this isn't as big of a deal to y'all because you've barely been introduced to this large-scale concept, but it's a really big deal to me because i've been planning and working on this for almost a year now and i got HELLA invested in it for a minute there. felt important to put out there.

for now, i have one or two more concept projects left in me, and then i'm honestly just gonna make and drop whatever tf i want for a while so i don't burn out again. the thing about trying to tell a story with your music is that it's exhausting. trying to make every piece line up perfectly and get a message across in a way that feels authentic to you and your listeners is time-consuming and fucking hard. especially when your morale and ego have been beat down at almost every turn for the past year and a half. sure, i make a lil bread off this shit, but i'm ultimately doing it for the love of the game and after almost seven years of making music, sometimes that isn't enough. which is cool because i'm a human and not a music making machine. after all, that's what makes it interesting and that's what makes me authentic.

The release of shin megami tensei 5 to me is a tragedy, like i really don't see people discuss the plot of the game, I don't see people making that many memes with it, i rarely see funny screenshots of the game, and no one is drawing these god forsaken characters besides the nahobino.

I played the game on release and i have already forgotten everything, like i remember naming my character Blueberry pancakes, the fuckin quadrillion fusion accidents i had playing it, and then finishing it with my roomate. For the rest of the megami tensei franchise (including persona and other spin off) my brain went fucking insane for them. I made memes, drawings, crack fanfiction, for all of them, even for the ones that i didn't particularly enjoy like strange journey, those games really left an impact in my mind, thats why this meme tumblr page exist now. But playing smt 5 was so mundane, like i can't even remember anything particularly interesting about it.

And to me it feels many people have this sentiment, its an okay game, its not bad enough to meme about how bad it was, its not good enough to praise it as a masterpiece. The characters have like 0.1 seconds of screen time so i can't really develop an attachment to them, i can't even hate them, like they haven't done anything really.

I can't really critize anything about it other than the dificulty spikes, and how some bosses ai is dead, you can come without demons to a combat and if you have the right resisntances for the nahobino you can kill them with autoplay. Its really good mechanically, it does a good job implementing the things apocalypse did good, and it does a good job with its own mechanics.

There is also this weird attachment the game has with nocturne that makes me nauseous, what with the amala drums. Like i get the demfiend combat since it came out just after the nocturne remaster (should have been included in the base game btw). But why have nocturne connections other than fanservice. Yeah nocturne is cool, but also should be this game for its own merit. And you know the funny stuff about it its how many memes of this game is the demifiend beating the shit out of nahobino, not even the memes can't sake this connection off.

And aside from that, my brain comes empty about this game, i dont even remember the ending, like not even the one i got, i literally forgot.
