The Sin of Nadab and Abihu
Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer, and put fire in it, and laid incense on it, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he had not commanded them. Nadab & Abihu, Annanias & Sapphira
written by Will Schumacher
I was listening to a podcast of Aleph Beta on the death of Nadab and Abihu. Rabbi David Fohrmann spoke of how the language of the story of the death of Nadab and Abihu was the same language used in the sin of Adam and Eve.
As a reminder, Nadab and Abihu are the sons of the first high priest Aaron. The tabernacle has just been erected and it is the beginning of the priesthood working in the tabernacle. Nadab and Abihu offered a strange offering that God did not command and they are killed on the spot.
Leviticus 10: 1-2 And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the Lord, which he commanded them not. 2 And there went out fire from the Lord, and devoured them, and they died before the Lord.
This instantly made me think of the New Testament story of Annanias and Sapphira. They too died instantly when they brought a “strange”/sinful offering to God. Read Acts 10.
I believe these stories replicate each other and show the same message. My assumption was then that the stories are numerically linked by the numbers within the Bible.
The stories are linked by numbers. Strong’s G4551 = Sapphira. This is Bible verse 4551…
Numbers 26:61 And Nadab and Abihu died, when they offered strange fire before the Lord.
Adam and Eve dwelled with God and they sinned and spiritually died and were kicked out.
The tabernacle was God’s way to dwell again with His people. Right at the beginning of the tabernacle time Nadab and Abihu sinned in their offering and died and were carried out.
In the New Testament the Church is likened to the tabernacle and temple. We are called the living stones. God is dwelling in us now. Acts 2 shows the Holy Spirit descending on the early church and the start of the 3rd temple. Right at the beginning again Annanias and Sapphira offer a sinful offering and they die and are carried out.
Sapphira is the name and number linking the two stories. It means “sapphire” and comes from Strong’s H5601 used a few times with the image of God on His throne. That image is important I believe in understanding the message God is trying to get across. It’s first use is in Exodus 24:10.
Exodus 24:10 And they saw the God of Israel: and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness.
Notice who was there to see God enthroned over the sapphire floor, Nadab and Abihu.
Exodus 24:9 Then went up Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel:
Through the work of Christ we are free to dwell with God again, only because His death made us pure before the eyes of God. We should never lose sight of God’s pureness and majesty and our desire should be to be more like Him.

Navigating the Complexities of Worship
Biblical Examples of Obedience and Error Brent Pollard  Comparing the post-exilic Jews criticized in Malachi, David, and Nadab and Abihu provides a holistic picture of the connection between human deeds and divine expectations in worship and obedience. Each scenario represents distinct facets of human engagement with divine decrees and religious rituals. The Jews who returned from exile did…

A New Generation and a New Opportunity

Leviticus 10: God Destroys Nadab And Abihu For Unauthorize Fire During Offering
1 Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu took their censers, put fire in them and added incense; and they offered unauthorized fire before the Lord, contrary to his command.
2 So fire came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed them, and they died before the Lord.
3 Moses then said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord spoke of when he said:
“‘Among those who approach me     I will be proved holy; in the sight of all the people     I will be honored.’”
Aaron remained silent.
4 Moses summoned Mishael and Elzaphan, sons of Aaron’s uncle Uzziel, and said to them, “Come here; carry your cousins outside the camp, away from the front of the sanctuary.”
5 So they came and carried them, still in their tunics, outside the camp, as Moses ordered.
6 Then Moses said to Aaron and his sons Eleazar and Ithamar, “Do not let your hair become unkempt and do not tear your clothes, or you will die and the Lord will be angry with the whole community. But your relatives, all the Israelites, may mourn for those the Lord has destroyed by fire.
7 Do not leave the entrance to the tent of meeting or you will die, because the Lord’s anointing oil is on you.” So they did as Moses said.
8 Then the Lord said to Aaron,
9 “You and your sons are not to drink wine or other fermented drink whenever you go into the tent of meeting, or you will die. This is a lasting ordinance for the generations to come,
10 so that you can distinguish between the holy and the common, between the unclean and the clean,
11 and so you can teach the Israelites all the decrees the Lord has given them through Moses.”
12 Moses said to Aaron and his remaining sons, Eleazar and Ithamar, “Take the grain offering left over from the food offerings prepared without yeast and presented to the Lord and eat it beside the altar, for it is most holy.
13 Eat it in the sanctuary area, because it is your share and your sons’ share of the food offerings presented to the Lord; for so I have been commanded.
14 But you and your sons and your daughters may eat the breast that was waved and the thigh that was presented. Eat them in a ceremonially clean place; they have been given to you and your children as your share of the Israelites’ fellowship offerings.
15 The thigh that was presented and the breast that was waved must be brought with the fat portions of the food offerings, to be waved before the Lord as a wave offering. This will be the perpetual share for you and your children, as the Lord has commanded.”
16 When Moses inquired about the goat of the sin offering and found that it had been burned up, he was angry with Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s remaining sons, and asked,
17 “Why didn’t you eat the sin offering in the sanctuary area? It is most holy; it was given to you to take away the guilt of the community by making atonement for them before the Lord.
18 Since its blood was not taken into the Holy Place, you should have eaten the goat in the sanctuary area, as I commanded.”
19 Aaron replied to Moses, “Today they sacrificed their sin offering and their burnt offering before the Lord, but such things as this have happened to me. Would the Lord have been pleased if I had eaten the sin offering today?”
20 When Moses heard this, he was satisfied.

oh man oh man just finished the latest chapter and as much as im happy that stretch and blue are okay with mc joining the polycule, what the hell just happened to quinn at the end?? is it just quinn's head fucking with her or is it something with the machine? does it have something to do with the horrortale brothers finally appearing? gah i just have to applaud the great character writing in this chapter most notably quinn. (ily quinn)
Thank you so much!!! What the hell indeed, right? I have been waiting to get to this bit and I’m so excited to be here!!
I’ll keep this non-spoilery but I can give you a little more insight on Quinn’s end of all of this, since you asked about her head fucking with her!
I just answered an ask here where I drew a connection between what Quinn sees (the bags of ice, the frostbite, the water) and some callbacks to earlier chapters. To add a bit of extra context (and a bit more Quinn insight!) a great deal of Quinn’s episode on the stairs plays on her religious trauma. Here’s the main excerpt from Slumber Party that plays into this:
The girl she is at her core, the child who spent hours each night on her knees in supplication thinks sinner, sinner, sinner. Thinks this is what the wrath of God looks like. It took eight years, but punishment comes for all who stray from the flock. Don’t you remember, Quinnie? Don’t you remember the flood? Nadab and Abihu? Korah’s rebellion? These are your end times. Did you really think you could cut the tie so easily?
These are all references to various figures and events from the Bible, particularly the Old Testament.
the flood refers to God, displeased with the wickedness of humanity, deciding to flood the Earth to cleanse it.
Nadal and Abihu were burnt alive by God when they offered him unauthorised fire.
Korah, along with his followers, rebelled against Moses and Aaron. God caused the earth to open up and swallow them as a punishment.
So Quinn fully believes that she’s about to be fucking smote by god for a second there, which absolutely ramped up the terror. As to whether all of it was just her head fucking with her, though, you'll have to wait and see <3

Abijam Reigns in Judah
In the eighteenth year of the reign of Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijam became king of Judah, and he reigned in Jerusalem three years. His mother’s name was Maacah daughter of Abishalom.
And Abijam walked in all the sins that his father before him had committed, and his heart was not as fully devoted to the LORD his God as the heart of David his forefather had been. Nevertheless, for the sake of David, the LORD his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem by raising up a son to succeed him and to make Jerusalem strong. For David had done what was right in the eyes of the LORD and had not turned aside from anything the LORD commanded all the days of his life, except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.
And there was war between the houses of Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of Abijam’s life.
As for the rest of the acts of Abijam, along with all his accomplishments, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? And there was war between Abijam and Jeroboam.
And Abijam rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David, and his son Asa reigned in his place.
In the twentieth year of Jeroboam’s reign over Israel, Asa became king of Judah, and he reigned in Jerusalem forty-one years. His grandmother’s name was Maacah daughter of Abishalom.
And Asa did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, as his father David had done. He banished the male shrine prostitutes from the land and removed all the idols that his fathers had made. He also removed his grandmother Maacah from her position as queen mother because she had made a detestable Asherah pole. Asa chopped down the pole and burned it in the Kidron Valley.
The high places were not removed, but Asa’s heart was fully devoted to the LORD all his days. And he brought into the house of the LORD the silver and gold and other articles that he and his father had dedicated.
Now there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel throughout their days. Baasha king of Israel went to war against Judah and fortified Ramah to prevent anyone from leaving or entering the territory of Asa king of Judah.
So Asa withdrew all the silver and gold that remained in the treasuries of the house of the LORD and the royal palace. He entrusted it to his servants and sent them with this message to Ben-hadad son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion king of Aram, who was ruling in Damascus: “Let there be a treaty between me and you, between my father and your father. See, I have sent you a gift of silver and gold. Now go and break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel, so that he will withdraw from me.”
And Ben-hadad listened to King Asa and sent the commanders of his armies against the cities of Israel, conquering Ijon, Dan, Abel-beth-maacah, and the whole land of Naphtali, including the region of Chinnereth.
When Baasha learned of this, he stopped fortifying Ramah and withdrew to Tirzah. Then King Asa summoned all the men of Judah, with no exceptions, and they carried away the stones of Ramah and the timbers Baasha had used for building. And with these materials King Asa built up Geba of Benjamin, as well as Mizpah.
Now the rest of the acts of Asa, along with all his might, all his accomplishments, and the cities he built, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? In his old age, however, he became diseased in his feet.
And Asa rested with his fathers and was buried with them in the city of his father David, and his son Jehoshaphat reigned in his place.
In the second year of Asa’s reign over Judah, Nadab son of Jeroboam became king of Israel, and he reigned two years. And he did evil in the sight of the LORD and walked in the way of his father and in his sin, which he had caused Israel to commit.
Then Baasha son of Ahijah of the house of Issachar conspired against Nadab, and Baasha struck him down at Gibbethon of the Philistines while Nadab and all Israel were besieging the city. In the third year of Asa’s reign over Judah, Baasha killed Nadab and reigned in his place.
As soon as Baasha became king, he struck down the entire household of Jeroboam. He did not leave to Jeroboam anyone that breathed, but destroyed them all according to the word that the LORD had spoken through His servant Ahijah the Shilonite, because of the sins Jeroboam had committed and had caused Israel to commit, and because he had provoked the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger.
As for the rest of the acts of Nadab, along with all his accomplishments, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel throughout their days.
In the third year of Asa’s reign over Judah, Baasha son of Ahijah became king of all Israel, and he reigned in Tirzah twenty-four years.
And Baasha did evil in the sight of the LORD and walked in the way of Jeroboam and in his sin, which he had caused Israel to commit. — 1 Kings 15 | The Reader's Bible (BRB) The Reader’s Bible © 2020 by Bible Hub and Berean.Bible. Wrong Spiritual Choices
“The Israelites did evil in the Lord’s sight …They abandoned the Lord, the God of their ancestors… They went after other gods, worshiping the gods of the people around them… angered the Lord …This made the Lord burn with anger against Israel, so He handed them over to raiders who stole their possessions. He turned them over to their enemies all around, and they were no longer able to resist them.” Judges 2:11-12,14NLT
Yahweh God the God of relationship making a covenant with Abraham. When He brought the Israelites, Abraham’s descendents, out of Egypt, He desired to be their Father, God and King. Seventy-four Israelites were allowed to dine in God’s Presence. “Then Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel climbed up the mountain. There they saw the God of Israel. Under His feet there seemed to be a surface of brilliant blue lapis lazuli, as clear as the sky itself… though these nobles of Israel gazed upon God, He did not destroy them… they ate a covenant meal, eating and drinking in His presence!” Exodus 24:9-11NLT God celebrated their freedom for Egypt with them. We similarly celebrate special occasions with meals in our families.
After the leaders left, Moses returned to God to receive instructions. Forty days away, impatience took over the Israelites. Give us a god we can ‘see’ they whined. Never mind that some had really seen Him, their majority wanted to create a golden calf! God became angry with their unfaithfulness.
In our text scripture, Moses and Joshua were deceased. Again they couldn’t ‘see’ God. “They went after other gods, worshiping the gods of the people around them.” Through Moses, Yahweh had given the Israelites choices— Deuteronomy 28. Verses 1-15 held all the blessings covering every good thing imaginable coming to those faithful ones under the umbrella of God’s mercy. Verses 15-68 showed all the curses coming to those who chose other gods and a life of sin. Slavery, poverty, and sickness are some of those curses.
In 1620AD a group of Pilgrims made a covenant with God for the new America. Groups came to this land seeking a place of freedom to worship Jesus, unfettered by the organized church. Those leaders all died. We’ve organized many denominational churches. Many such denominations have lost full sight of Jesus as Lord; His amazing love and power. Others have fallen into the sleep of apathy. Those Pilgrims would be aghast.
Has anyone noticed the soaring prices of inflation? Loss of medical care after Obama’s medical takeover? Higher taxes? Enormous national debt? Sex trafficking of our children? Enemy invasion over our borders? Foreigners owing our land and government buildings? Check out Deuteronomy 28. Could our national enslavement be because of our wrong spiritual choices?
2Chronicles 7:14NLT “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.” God has given us a way out of this mess— repentance. Solely prayer won’t suffice. We must ask God to show us our sin, in order to repent, not just our sins but those who’ve gone before us. Sins thriving inside each of us individually. REPENT per online dictionary .com is defined— “to feel such sorrow for sin or fault as to be disposed TO CHANGE ONE’S LIFE for the better; be penitent.”
Thus repentance is not just a ‘God I’m sorry’ prayer. This is a prayer of heartfelt change, doing a 180 degree life turnaround. Our choices today are like the Israelites. Repent or become more enslaved down to even watching our nation be totally destroyed. What do you want? Will you repent in prayer? It’s your choice. You choose.
LET’S PRAY: Father forgive us of our sins! Help us to regret our sinful ways. Please change our hearts in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

A Hope For The Future
Carl Pollard  Hebrews 7:20-28 compares and contrasts Christ to the Levitical priesthood. In these verses Jesus’ Superiority is clearly seen. With Christ we have hope in the future, and with that comes power for the present. Christ is a better hope because He is the Appointed Priest. Being appointed caries with it the idea of being assigned a role or job. Christ has been assigned the role of…

Exodus 28: God Gives Moses Guidance and Orders on the Sacred Garments Aaron and His Sons will Wear as Priests
1 “Have Aaron your brother brought to you from among the Israelites, along with his sons Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, so they may serve me as priests.
2 Make sacred garments for your brother Aaron to give him dignity and honor.
3 Tell all the skilled workers to whom I have given wisdom in such matters that they are to make garments for Aaron, for his consecration, so he may serve me as priest.
4 These are the garments they are to make: a breastpiece, an ephod, a robe, a woven tunic, a turban and a sash. They are to make these sacred garments for your brother Aaron and his sons, so they may serve me as priests.
5 Have them use gold, and blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and fine linen.
The Ephod
6 “Make the ephod of gold, and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and of finely twisted linen—the work of skilled hands.
7 It is to have two shoulder pieces attached to two of its corners, so it can be fastened.
8 Its skillfully woven waistband is to be like it—of one piece with the ephod and made with gold, and with blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and with finely twisted linen.
9 “Take two onyx stones and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel
10 in the order of their birth—six names on one stone and the remaining six on the other.
11 Engrave the names of the sons of Israel on the two stones the way a gem cutter engraves a seal. Then mount the stones in gold filigree settings
12 and fasten them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod as memorial stones for the sons of Israel. Aaron is to bear the names on his shoulders as a memorial before the Lord.
13 Make gold filigree settings
14 and two braided chains of pure gold, like a rope, and attach the chains to the settings.
The Breastpiece
15 “Fashion a breastpiece for making decisions—the work of skilled hands. Make it like the ephod: of gold, and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and of finely twisted linen.
16 It is to be square—a span long and a span wide—and folded double.
17 Then mount four rows of precious stones on it. The first row shall be carnelian, chrysolite and beryl;
18 the second row shall be turquoise, lapis lazuli and emerald;
19 the third row shall be jacinth, agate and amethyst;
20 the fourth row shall be topaz, onyx and jasper. Mount them in gold filigree settings.
21 There are to be twelve stones, one for each of the names of the sons of Israel, each engraved like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes.
22 “For the breastpiece make braided chains of pure gold, like a rope.
23 Make two gold rings for it and fasten them to two corners of the breastpiece.
24 Fasten the two gold chains to the rings at the corners of the breastpiece,
25 and the other ends of the chains to the two settings, attaching them to the shoulder pieces of the ephod at the front.
26 Make two gold rings and attach them to the other two corners of the breastpiece on the inside edge next to the ephod.
27 Make two more gold rings and attach them to the bottom of the shoulder pieces on the front of the ephod, close to the seam just above the waistband of the ephod.
28 The rings of the breastpiece are to be tied to the rings of the ephod with blue cord, connecting it to the waistband, so that the breastpiece will not swing out from the ephod.
29 “Whenever Aaron enters the Holy Place, he will bear the names of the sons of Israel over his heart on the breastpiece of decision as a continuing memorial before the Lord.
30 Also put the Urim and the Thummim in the breastpiece, so they may be over Aaron’s heart whenever he enters the presence of the Lord. Thus Aaron will always bear the means of making decisions for the Israelites over his heart before the Lord.
Other Priestly Garments
31 “Make the robe of the ephod entirely of blue cloth,
32 with an opening for the head in its center. There shall be a woven edge like a collar around this opening, so that it will not tear.
33 Make pomegranates of blue, purple and scarlet yarn around the hem of the robe, with gold bells between them.
34 The gold bells and the pomegranates are to alternate around the hem of the robe.
35 Aaron must wear it when he ministers. The sound of the bells will be heard when he enters the Holy Place before the Lord and when he comes out, so that he will not die.
36 “Make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it as on a seal: holy to the Lord.
37 Fasten a blue cord to it to attach it to the turban; it is to be on the front of the turban.
38 It will be on Aaron’s forehead, and he will bear the guilt involved in the sacred gifts the Israelites consecrate, whatever their gifts may be. It will be on Aaron’s forehead continually so that they will be acceptable to the Lord.
39 “Weave the tunic of fine linen and make the turban of fine linen. The sash is to be the work of an embroiderer.
40 Make tunics, sashes and caps for Aaron’s sons to give them dignity and honor.
41 After you put these clothes on your brother Aaron and his sons, anoint and ordain them. Consecrate them so they may serve me as priests.
42 “Make linen undergarments as a covering for the body, reaching from the waist to the thigh.
43 Aaron and his sons must wear them whenever they enter the tent of meeting or approach the altar to minister in the Holy Place, so that they will not incur guilt and die.
“This is to be a lasting ordinance for Aaron and his descendants.
