Who is Jun?

Shiratori Jun (née Nothing) is my Alchemist Librarian character for the PC and Mobile game Bungou to Alchemist (文豪とアルケミスト). She is either the main character for my series of fanfictions or at the very least an important character.

Why is Jun?

I noticed that the nameless Librarian I wrote in some fics seemed to have a consistent character, so I decided to flesh her out a little. Just a little. I might have lied there.

When is Jun?

She was born 1969 (nice) and this series takes place in the early 2000s. What is Jun?

... a perfectly normal human. No more questions.

Please Respond, Shisho-san!: The OG Jun fic, it's written as a mystery but uh... I mean you know her name's Jun. There are some inconsistencies here compared to later works, but keep in mind this was the first Jun fic.

An Alchemist Abroad: Proper introduction to foreign libraries as well as the beginnings of insight into what happened to Shiga during those 15 months. Will rewrite at some point in the future but still very important.

Challenge for you: if you pick a random pred and a random prey out of your character lineup, what would the interaction between them be?

Random number generation has given us Demetri (arctic wolf) and Jun (snow fox)!

Demetri, despite his cold and harsh nature, likes to look out for Jun and make sure he's safe. Much like Karma and Space, the two have a close bond and spend the majority of their time together even when they're with the rest of the group.

I imagine a scenario would be like this: Jun finds himself feeling overwhelmed by tasks or people and retreats to Demetri's side, burying his face in the wolf's uniform and asking to hide. Demetri smooths the fox's fur and glances at Karma, silently asking permission to take over Jun's duties in his place so the little one doesn't grow more stressed. Once Karma shrugs and gives a nod, Demetri lifts up Jun and gulps him down, swallowing quickly and efficiently, caring little for taste and making the fox's safety a priority. Once he's tucked the little fox away, he silently resumes his work, absentmindedly rubbing his swollen belly with one paw as he does. Jun squirms for a moment to get comfy before curling up and going silent, recharging for lack of a better word.

More or less, Demetri is Jun's safe space that he retreats to when he needs a break. The wolf doesn't mind, quietly appreciating how the fox helps him feel loved.

God Of Storms- Monsters/Cursed Mortals

Jugo

Role: God created monster

Animal Companion: Shrike Aka (as well as other birds)

Symbol: Horns that are on top of his head. They’re retractable, showing up when  Jugo’s anger is flaring up. He will also often be depicted with a large, terrifying looking bird that seems giant enough to swallow a mortal whole, though Jugo prefers smaller friendly birds as a rule.

Birth/Creation: Jugo was born a mortal and turned into a ‘monster’ by Orochimaru after getting lost in the woods and somehow finding his way into their domain. Orochimaru, who prefers to keep their location a secret, decided to punish Jugo for his mistake by turning him into a monster. Though Jugo’s outward appearance doesn’t change most of the time, his change is connected to his anger. When that anger flares up, Jugo grows horns and becomes blood thirsty, willing to tear apart his enemies without restraint. Not realizing what the god had done to him, Jugo went back to his village hoping to forget the incident.

When one of his friends upset him during a game, the curse awoke and Jugo blacked out. When he came to, his hands were covered in blood and half the village was standing with weapon’s facing him and terror in their eyes. The other half of the village was laying at his feet, dead.

Lore: The only person who stuck by his side after is Kimimaru, who has been Jugo’s friend since they were young children. Kimimaru was the only one who noticed that Jugo was just as terrified by what had happened as the rest of the villagers, and when Jugo ran off to try and get away from them Kimimaru chased after him.

Although Jugo did try to push Kimmimaru away at first, he never could. No matter how dangerous things seemed to get, Kimmimaru continued to stand by his side. Forfeiting a normal life within their village to continue supporting Jugo.

Jugo also has the friendship of Sasuke, the god of death. Although Sasuke has never reached out to others before, he chose to reach out to Jugo when he saw how much the guilt of those deaths was eating at him. It was through Sasuke and Kimmimaru’s support that Jugo was able to find some peace with his new life, and learned to control his anger so that it didn’t rule him at all times.

Symbol: Often depicted with the tusks that come from the top of their teeth, as well as with Snakes for hair (much like Medusa)

Birth/Creation: Turned into a monster by Shizune, Goddess of healing. Jun was born a human to the king of his land, but was treated horribly from his birth. The king, an terrible and cruel man, claimed to worship the god of justice (Ibiki) but chose to punish his child for anything he deemed wrong. From sitting the wrong way, to speaking at the wrong moment. It seemed as though Jun could do no right.

Lore: One night, while hiding away in the forest from his father, Jun was approached by a stranger wielding a knife.

The stranger was Anko, an assassin hired by Jun’s father to dispose of them so that when he died they would not get the throne. However, upon seeing the child in front of her Anko lowered her weapon and chose to help Jun instead. At first she simply hide away in the forest, keeping a look out for any other assassins the king may send and protecting jun, but she was growing weary. Unable to go anywhere else and concerned she may not be enough to protect Jun. Hearing these concerns of her favorite worshipper, Shizune appeared in front of Jun one night while they were sleeping and decided to give them something that would protect them.

When they woke up, Jun was no longer human. They had grown snakes in place of their hair, and the first human who tried to approach them, intent on killing them, was turned to stone as soon as they met Jun’s eye.

Jun spent the next fifty years of their life living in the forest, with Anko guarding their home and any one brave enough to attack them turning to stone. There were instances where the gods intervened to stop Jun from turning an attacker into stone, usually because the King had lied to them about Jun or because he had chosen to use someone they deemed to young to die for his hatred. Kakashi (for example) appeared once between Jun and his would be attacker. A soldier by the name of Itani who prayed to Kakashi, and who lowered his sword as soon as the god told him to.

Although Ibiki is the god their father prays to, and thus a god that Jun has little love for growing up, he quickly proves himself to be a much different god than what Jun would expect. Ibiki makes a habit of stopping attackers from going after Jun if he knows that their sense of justice is stronger than their desire for money, and has gotten rid of at least one attacker himself for the insult of choosing money over another person’s life.

After the king’s death his throne was taken by an adopted son chosen to be the next king. However, knowing his rights as the King’s legitamite son, Jun went into the kingdom to challenge the chosen king for the throne. With one look at the intruder, Jun turned him to stone and successfully took the throne for themselves.

With Jun’s reign began a long four hundred year reign of peace and prosperity for the kingdom. Temples that had been left to ruin were repaired, with new temples being built to gods who had helped Jun during their worst times in life. Gods such as Shizune, Kakashi, Tsunade and Sakumo all received a new temple in the kingdom, while other temples were repaired with new priests flocking to them to ensure they did not fall into ruin again.
