pleeease keep talking about toys...i think this is interesting and smth i've never thought too hard about but it makes sense and i like to hear your opinions on modern toys

holy shit okay !! i would love to ramble on so, i shall!

okay im no expert on toy sales history, this is all just observation from my life experiences and i'll try to keep each part i want to go over relatively short!

that being said lets start with a small one that i've personally noticed as a canadian: Kinder egg toys! i remember when they used to come with like 4-8+ pieces, and you needed the included step by step manual to assemble them. they would often come with sticker sheets to decorate them with, and they would often be articulated or be set on wheels or have some sort of fun or movement or general functionality to them:

dont those look awesome? wrapped in 2 kinds of chocolate, and for only like 2$! i remember they would come in all shapes and sizes, all sorts of animals and vehicles and sometimes freaky little abominations, as you can see above, and sometimes even puzzles! they were such a special treat as a kid.

but kinder eggs now? come with a maximum of like 3 pieces that just snap together (usually the front and back of the toy, and then the platform they stand on). and thats all they mostly are now, stiff toys that stand on platforms wahhooooo yippeee

idk just look at the quality difference from the old ones above compared to some of the new ones:

like..... these are..... nothing! literally nothing. just a figure snapped to a pole/platform and thats it! not very interesting for more than 3 minutes max.

now i know what you're thinking: "not ALL of the old kinder toys had to have been bangers" and you'd be right, some were lame as hell, but even the lame ones from before look more intricate than the ones we have now, like can you see what i mean, just detail-wise?

it just feels so cheap and shitty, i could go on and on but more is explained later. point is, it sucks.

anyway that's a very small example and we can move onto bigger and better ones, and maybe even one that everyone else might have noticed by now; McDonald's toys! remember when they were actually toys?

and not just stiff figurines?

(the minions franchise was like CRACK for companies who love making profit off of nothing but stiff rounded plastic. probably the cheapest form of "toy" i can think of)

and yeah, again, its not like there werent figurines back in the day too, there's ALWAYS been lame as hell mcdonalds toys, but looking among many modern mcdonalds toys, you dont see anything as cool as the old ones. literally every major modern movie/franchise right now is nothing but figurines. the most recent actually interactive mcd's toy ive seen is when they collabed with hasbro games

again, companies just seem to be pumping out quantities over quality.

but why?

well, for starters toys are becoming cheaper (both in price and quality) because prices have sky rocketed and stores are forced to only stock cheaper things, therefore the cheap things sell the most, and then more of them get made, and statistics get fucked, etc etc the cycle repeats.

but toy companies know one thing, and that's that things that are "cuter" always sell more. "cuter" being used with vitriol because their idea of 'cute' is 'more glitter and sparkles and rainbow colours and obnoxiousness' oh, and dont forget the huge soulless bug eyes on all of them!

i know that people love these things, but theyre so..... uncanny. their stare is piercing, their stance is so stiff, i always felt bad actually playing with the only one of these i had growing up, and not just because it freaked me out, it just genuinely didnt feel good to play with.

and i knoowwwww people are obsessed with these things, but come on, you have to admit theyre SO unoriginal! theyre just cookie cutter shapes!

these things are horrifying and, at best, belong on a shelf.

these "beany boos" are so woobified and almost feel like a flanderized version of a stuffed animal, and they've completely taken over "beanie babies", which were wonderful soft little things that actually had movement and weren't stiff to cuddle! I also feel like they're almost trying to copy what webkinz was, in a way, as some of those were stiff too (but still loveable and not burdened with an uncanny, vacant stare)

anyway this is getting insanely long and im sorry but i feel like im going insane every time i see new toys nowadays. the like.... "cuteification" of everything is driving me insane, and the fact that they are simply just lower quality than what we used to get, because of prices rising and causing easy-to-make things to become more and more popular.

examples to further prove these points:

extreme woobifying or "cuteification" by almost completely removing all horse anatomy in favour of thin limbs, heavy makeup eyes that are now on the front of her face, and modern influencer eyebrows. on a horse.

and the extreme-simplifying of toys can be seen quite well on those mini polly pocket sets!! see this one here?

almost allllll of those little plastic things could be rotated or rearranged or moved or fucked with in some manner, it was awesome. i loved these miniature houses they always came with so much shit. wanna guess what the newer ones look like?

you guessed it, like shit!!

man even beyblades used to come with like, all sorts of different pieces both metal and plastic alike, and you had to assemble them yourself and you could interchange pieces to obtain a different weight which would affect your attacks against other beyblades, etc etc:

and looking at them now? they seem to be mostly made of- yep, you guessed it, hard cheap plastic.

anyway holy shit i literally reached the 30 image limit on a single post tumblr really said thats ENOUGH !! i cant believe i just spent that long talking about the worlds most pointless thing but at any rate i hope you enjoyed it and i hope you see my vision. because like i said im not insanely knowledgeable on any of this in particular, but its hard not to notice the decline in quality of all of todays modern toys.

NOOOO FUCK -"why shouldn't you take up time travel?" "because there's no future in it!" FUCK. siffrin be normal you got this. you can clutch this -"oh so we're going to ignore the whole hysteric laughing and crying huh" helppp. -oooo "why stardust?" -"distracting people with puns and jokes is the best way to evade stupid questions" just like siffrin does. loop def noticed that LOL -YES!!!!! MY PERSISTENCE HAS PAID OFF! TAKE THE FUCKING FLOWER YOU BLINDING FUCK!!!!!! -WHAT JUST HAPPENED???? BONNIE'S PORTRAIT WENT ALL BLACK???? -oh my god i could totally set up siffrin to one shot these fucking bosses i just did 8k damage to big ball head -why DID the head housemaiden record who wished for what? -she knows about wish craft… -hmmm… that is interesting. why is it just siffrin looping if it was everyone in vaugarde wishing for the country to be saved. siffrin isn't the key to victory, because the party can get up to the king on their own as seen in the spending a loop with loop.. i would consider mirabelle the key part of the party and not siffrin -"you have to go talk to loop in person" siffrin i'm going to kill you dead. fine.

loop 33 - -siffrin looping back based on his emotional state does check out actually -"you can't continue because somehow you know this is the end." -LOL HE TRIED IT ON LOOP -loop's eyes have diffrent shades? oh they do! i didn't notice -AWH he's drawing them! so cutes drawing! -siffrin's cloak and hat has backstitching, which means its durable. -made of wool, one thread up one thread down. -clothing that's here to keep you comfy and warm -awhhh someone wanted siffrin to me comfy and warm for a long time… -fucking KILLED that fucking tall as fuck saddness holy fuck i 9999'ed that thing. oh this just got so much more fun for me i'm doing this shit to the king after the paper jackpot -siffrin just automatically walked down the post boss hallway? -siffrin for the love of god you need to get out of the timeloop not embrace it rn -its too late for the loop to be fixed? but something went wrong… -"something goes wrong everytime" "it's because we did it wrong" -they didn't know the exact ritual. -the king might not have been defeated the right way… hmm -"i just hope that someday. you might learn to forgive us" loop 34 - -maybe siffrin does something wrong??? -going against the wish's will without realizing. hmm -ooooohhhh mirabelle always gets the last blow… hmm interesting. but why would a wish rot for just siffrin to do that? YIPPEEE!!! ok so she is in the roller derby while in a band with some of her teammates, she's basically the older sister of her friends/team. her mom and aunts used to run a restaurant together before her mom met her dad (her dad was also in a band) and her mom and dad runned a music shop with a lil cafe built in lol, so shes an AMAZING cook. (her name is Sidney btw) and she knows self defense (kung fu) she also has a punk sense of fashion, and she also has a bat that came with her to NRC (its a metal baseball bat). sorry for making this a bit long lol, but pls let me know what you think of her!

Oh she seems super lovely! She does a lot of interesting stuff and the background of her parents is really cute and adorable!

Hello I hope the event is still open. I saw that you write for Vrains and I thought of this cute idea that I hope isn't too complicated. Basically Skye (or Aoi if you watched the sub) is e-dating the reader and they decide to meet up irl for valentines day. But it turns out they already knew each other irl and were friends and Skye is all insecure like "you must think i'm lame when i'm not blue angel" but the reader loves her even more like this. You'd always notice something up with her. How she's ready to bolt out of a classroom with this cotton candied haired kid that looked like he wrote angst on the side. As soon as she'd bolt out the classroom you'd lock in to take notes for her making sure it's colorful and summed to the important bits. After those odd days you'd usually log onto vrains with hopes of meeting a certain blue celeb, only to find her offline. When she is online tho she'd be all over you. "You're always so early what's your secret" "well..." You pull non existent hairs on your chin "I don't have fans that chase me around for a duel" she huffs "you need to work on better routes to cut em off" you place a hand onto her board running a finger over it. "I'll try" she sighs placing a hand over yours.

She would say things that made you think she was Skye. Like how her classmates had covered a tab for her, how she spoke similarly to you in real life. She'd end up mumbling about you so much you try to take her mind off of it by dueling her. "If I win you have to promise me a date!" "I've been looking into a spot anyway!"

By valintines day while watching a replay of blue angels duels, Skye seemed to shuffle around alot, trying to hide her face with her hair, eventually tapping a finger to one of yours. "Can you help me out with something..." "Sure what's up" you pause the replay "when there's someone you want to ask out" she grips her tie "how do you..." she pauses reading herself to speak up "how should I ask them to meet me" she sighs unable to make eye contact, you turn to her fully. "Well~" at this point you were heavy suspecting her to be your girlfriend online smirking as you respond "tell that lucky person that you wanna meet them, I'm sure the words will fly out your mouth"

As soon as you get onto vrains, you meet a clearly nervous Blue Angel. "What's on your mind?" You creep up to her playfully "it's almost valintines day..." You smile waiting for her to continue speaking "I want to meet up with you" "oh?" Smiling you sit down onto the nearby ledge "where do you have in mind?" Instictively she sits with you her hands tightly gripping eatchother. "You know that hot dog stand?" "I'm a frequent" "the one with the-" "guy with the purple hair?" "Yea" reassured she continues on "at 4 pm let's meet there" "alright" you take her hand gently bringing it up to your mouth "I can't wait to meet you" you place a soft kiss onto her hand

The next day you finally strike a conversation with that one cotton candy kid, while waiting for her. Getting two hot dogs for you two along with drinks, gripping the gifts you brought. Checking your phone back almost every two seconds seeing a familiar figure near run to the table. "Skye?" Trying to act surprised you watch as she bolts to you, hugging you tightly but loosing her grip secounds later. "I bet you think im lame" "Why would I think that" she let's go of you looking away "I'm not blue angel right now, I bet you'll only think im cool if I'm blue angel, let alone want to date me" you scoff "Skye, if I didn't think you were cool I wouldn't have met you here" she looks up as if a bit stunned. "To be honest you kept talking about me to me it made it pretty obvious who you were" you take her hands "and even after the fact that I basically knew your identity I still stuck around" she looked with wide eyes unsure of what to say. "Even if you weren't blue angel, even If you were just a normal person in and out of vrains, I'd still love you all the same Skye" she nearly falls onto you, small droplets plopping onto your shirt, she grips its fabric. "I'm glad" she's able to mumble out between sniffles "really glad" with words no longer needed you hug her letting her cry all she needed to.
