I’ve been too scared to reread rtc to work out what needs to happen in chapter 13 because I convinced myself that the whole fic is a flaming pile of cringey flimsy garbage, but ya know what, I finally gathered the courage to (skim) read it and it’s not as bad as I thought lol. My interpretation and understanding of the characters has changed a lot since I started writing it (thank you to all of the extraordinarily talented writers in this fandom whose works have since shaped my characterisation for the better) so if I could go back, I’d make some different choices. But - and this is me putting this into words in an attempt to convince myself of its truth - this is a hobby, not a test. I’m not a failure because I’m not retroactively meeting the standards I have for my writing today with words I wrote six months ago. Are there bits of clumsy writing and mischaracterisation? Yes, absolutely. Does that mean I’m a bad writer and a bad person who should throw their laptop out the window and never write another word again? Probably not lol, even if rereading that mischaracterisation makes me want to do exactly that.

I’m glad I’ve pulled the bandaid off and reread it, a) because I kinda know what I want to happen in the next chapter now and b) because rereading it, despite the Shame and Embarrassment, reminded me that I actually like writing rtc. Even the bits I cringe at now - I remember having fun writing them. And then I looked back at some comments and remembered how much I love the sense of community that comes with putting myself out there, even though being perceived by others is probably my biggest fear. I like writing, and I like sharing my writing. Why am I letting shame ruin this for myself? I want to stop feeling icky and embarrassed about things I worked hard on.

Anyway. All this to say: I like writing rtc, despite the flaws I see in it, so I need to learn to work through my learned response to imperfection, which is to just feel terrible about it lol. I’m going to start messing around with chapter 13 soon. I really do miss playing around in the rtc world and I’m so excited to show you all what I have planned for the characters <3

speaking objectively here as someone who went through hell in advertising anf production classes as a mass communication major so bear with me here but the majestic repertory theatre's promotion of their RTC prod is a very interesting case because like they have the BEST of IDEAS for tiktok and instagram reels like legitimately this might be the best promotion of a prod through that kind of media because they follow the trends and do it WELL and CREATIVELY and importantly NOT CHEESILY OR BOOMER-Y. however, their production pictures and edits leave um much room for improvement and aren't as trendily or aesthetically appealing (mainly the photos are grainy and not really framed that well to see the set design or the characters wholly) as their tiktok content so um yea very interesting case

Okay now I have to be nice to everyone and give the possibility of Moni being on the coaster as it broke.

Now I’m not writing a full story like I did yesterday, just giving details

So she sits next to Ricky as they ride the coaster, then the accident happens and they all die

Now Moni actually was incredibly suicidal growing up so she really has no reason to come back to live but she still has to participate so whatever

During her introduction, Karnak calls her the “fiercest girl in town” and she respects that, but he does talk about her life in France and she hates it

Moni’s song is actually just a song she made back home in France, a song about a bird who’s stuck in his mother’s nest, but eventually learns to fly and leave his old life. It’s in French but she does sing parts of it in English

She keeps close to her brother but when he starts his big old showstopper Moni is confused as shit when she sees her brother dressing in drag and singing about her life only in old time France.

For the most part, Moni helps Jane Doe throughout the show, as she doesn’t remember Penny due to her loss of a head, she still remembers having a creative friend and she feels compelled to staying around Jane Doe. She votes for her immediately and tbh most of her interactions with the choir are snarky bc she doesn’t even want to come back.

But at the end she does reconnect with her friends and they all give Penny a proper farewell and it’s all nice and yeah I hope you guys can leave me alone 😭

in what order would the characters fall in love for mc?(e.g. 1.quinn 2.red ect.[or if mc falls for them first?])we already know the flashbacks of quinn and MC but not when they confessed/caught feelings, who did what first in what place and environment? these questions also involves the skeletons too if you don't mind us having a peek at future events. XP

although i am not the most observant of readers, your work is so interesting to read that I would put it on a petri dish to understand it more thoroughly if I can hahah, maybe even a piece of your brain too./hj

Thank you so much!!! My brain is pretty smooth most of the time so I'm not sure how much you'd get out of it, but I'm very flattered!! If there's anything in the fic you (or anyone else) wants clarification or my in-depth thoughts on, I'm always very very happy to give my commentary :)

I won't answer in terms of order, because it'd be a little spoilery (and my planning is not that detailed lol) BUT, if you'd like, I can tell you what traits MC/the skeletons have that'll make things work? I put A LOT of thought into it when writing MC's personality because I wanted her to be a good fit for all of them plus Quinn whilst still maintaining an actual coherent personality, which was a challenge lemme tell you! If you want to see that, let me know and I'll pop it into a separate post because it'll be LONG.

But I will say that one big, overarching thing that'll make all this work is that MC reads as really genuine. Her intent matches her actions. I actually go into this in the next chapter in relation to Quinn, but it applies to MC too. I think this would be a super important part of attraction for monsters.

Anyway! Onto the Quinn and MC backstory. I'm happy to answer this because it's not really a spoiler and I don't (yet) have plans to actually write it (it may come up at some point tho). I will put it under the cut, though, if anyone would rather learn this as I drip feed it into the story you won't be spoiled.

MC fell for Quinn first, or at least was able to identify her feelings as romantic, much earlier. They become friends at 15 and it takes MC like, a week, to realise that she's attracted to Quinn physically and then another one to work out that she's interested romantically too. MC is into a lot of people, so this isn't particularly groundbreaking or intense at first, but when her feelings start to grow beyond casual attraction, things get more serious.

Teenage Quinn was hella repressed (in soft, as it began, she's having some serious Gay Panic but doesn't have the emotional framework to describe it) and also didn't have a bunch of friends, so didn't actually understand that her feelings for MC were romantic. She just Really Likes this girl and has funny feelings around her, so what? They're just besties. Besides, MC could have anyone she wanted and if she was into Quinn, surely she would've said something, right? Right?!?

Meanwhile, MC thinks that Quinn wouldn't be interested and that she has wayyyy too much to deal with already without adding her best friend having a crush on her on top of it all (this is the beginning of MC acting in what she thinks are Quinn's best interests and trying to spare her feelings), so she doesn't say anything. She thinks can read Quinn pretty well at this point, surely she'd be able to tell if Quinn was into her because she'd start acting differently, right? Right?!?

This all comes to a head in MC's bedroom when they're both 16, so a year into the friendship. It is not very romantic - they're passing a bottle of chambord stolen from MC's parents between them and simultaneously feeling very drunk from the alcohol and very sick from all of the sugar, they've just finished trying to scrub said liqueur from the carpet because Quinn accidently knocked it over and now there's a stain in the pile, it's a school night, the second Twilight movie is playing on MC's TV and Bella is October, November, December-ing, and MC just looks at Quinn, in ratty pajamas and hair greasy, lips stained purple and eyebags dark under the harsh yellow glow of the ceiling light and just... blurts it all out.

Quinn doesn't get to respond until the next morning, though, because MC follows the confession up by vomiting all over the carpet and the caretaking and clean-up that follows takes at least half an hour, and then MC falls asleep.

and another thing is how in pretty much everything ive seen, ocean mischa and noel have like. a million problems and plot points and every conflict is about them. and then penny ricky and constance are just silly and spend the entire thing just taking care of the first three. even though like… they have some of the worst experiences/traumas in the show?? i just think so many ppl in the fandom have been completely reducing the characters into one-dimensional steryotypes

Constance is always either the mom friend or worse boiled down to just being Oceans caretaker and its awful every single time

and nobody else is getting any better treatment either. Noel is just flamboyant gay twink stereotype 3, Ricky is the generic comic relief, Mischa is woobiefied to all hell and back to the point that hed probably be scared shitless of how he actually acts for most the musical and Ocean is.....yeah. I get shes not the best person in the world but jesus christ god forbid a woman do anything. Im not even gonna touch on how penny is treated cuz i could be here all day

i feel bad ranting about it but it just hurts seeing a piece of media i fell in love with because of how refreshingly nuanced and human the characters are and how interesting their interactions can be get churned and contorted into unrecognisable mush, especially since the set up allows for a quick and easy back door into exploring some really cool character dynamics we dont get to see in the show

i know ride the cyclone x tdi talk ended like a milliom years ago but i was thinking about it and saw a tdi au ab it on ao3 and it made me mad so now i have 2 talk ab it 

noah would NOT be noel. there are so much differences between the two.
