Good Omens Fic Rec: Our homeward steps were just as light
She flipped to the paperwork for the new gentleman, a Mr. A. Z. Fell. He was a retired literature professor, it seemed. He was slated to be in the room next to — oh, this could be a problem —Anthony.
Length: 7,021 Words
AO3 Rating: Teen and Up
Best for: Safe in Public, Human AU, Fluff, Pick-Me-Up
Triggers: None
Read it here, fic by On1OccasionFork
*Minor Spoilers* I can imagine a lot of people seeing the "Nursing Home AU" tag and skipping this, expecting it to be sad or not to their tastes. But this is so wonderful! Please give this story a shot! This buoyed my mood so much more than I expected, and (to overuse my favorite phrase) my only complaint is that it's not a million words long. It's silly and sappy, and oh so sweet.
The story is told through Pepper's perspective. She is a nurse at the long-term care home Whickber House and has a soft spot for mischievous resident Crowley. Her observations are delightful, making me smile over Crowley's pranks, and overflowing my heart with affection as he shows her the stars. Things start to settle for Crowley once he meets his new neighbor Aziraphale. We aren't treated to their perspective, which I would eat up in a heartbeat, but the changes are clear to Pepper, and their chemistry shines so brightly even from a distance. They'll always be soulmates, even in timelines where it takes them a little longer to find each other.
Completely safe in public, though it will make your heart swell with fluff and put a smile on your face, I guarantee it. If there was ever to be more in this universe, I would be first in line.

To all the GO fanfic writers ...
Tumblr media
Thank you!
This summer is the first summer I can remember ever just resting! I normally fret about what I need to get done for the fall (I am a teacher), or what needs to be done around the house & garden, etc. I have not just sat and read fiction in YEARS ... I might average 1 book/year. Everything else is professional learning.
So to ...
@phoen1xr0se, @pannotbread, @klikandtuna, @mrghostrat, @deichselschwein, @hinekosama, @moonyinpisces, @captain-sassy-sockssocks, @on1occasionfork, ... and more
Thank you for creating stories so worth reading and giving me a chance to just get lost in another world for a little while. I probably have spent far TOO much time reading, but it has allowed me to renew - not necessarily rest as I was up until well after 1:00 a.m. some mornings reading 🤓.
You are all very talented! I am no writer, but love to read!
Some of you have also become mutuals - THANK YOU - you are lovely people, and one of you is even allowing me to edit your fic and help with your English. I never thought I'd actually find a community online.

Runaway Groom - Chapter 8
With the compliments of my beta angel @somewhere-in-wales 💜
EXCERPT FROM CHAPTER 8 - ACTS OF SERVICE
“Stop all the fighting or I’ll have to show you both a yellow card.”
Aziraphale tried to smile at his fiancée’s umpteenth football metaphor, but sometimes it was really a bit too much, even for him.
“Aziraphale is always kind, but sometimes he loses focus.” Gabriel explained to Crowley. “He should start focusing more in here.” Gabriel tapped Aziraphale’s chest, causing him to startle and almost fall from the stool, when he suddenly felt Crowley’s hand on his back, keeping him steady. He gasped at the contact and glanced culpably at him, knowing that he wasn’t supposed to wince in discomfort for his fiancée’s touch and in (pleasant) surprise for the columnist’s. At times like these, Aziraphale thanked god for those sunglasses that allowed a barrier between them (even if this meant that he would concentrate more on Crowley’s snake tattoo, which wasn’t necessarily good news).
“That’s what we’re working on, aren’t we sunshine? Focus. Right? Focus on Gabriel. Focus on Aziraphale. Focus on scoring goals.”
Crowley’s sigh was so loud and exasperated that Aziraphale struggled to stifle his own chuckle.
“Right.” Aziraphale agreed, if only to shut Gabriel’s mouth up.
“We do a lot of visualisation exercises. This stuff is very popular among sports shrinks. Visualise the end zone, visualise the goal line--”
The only thing Aziraphale wanted to visualise at that moment was the fastest route out of Gabriel’s oncoming sports psychology lecture and into crepe consumption. He was starving.
“Can I visualise my way out of here?” Crowley begged Aziraphale, speaking in a low voice so that only he could hear him. The mechanic was in equal parts amused and unnerved by the way their two minds had landed on the same thought.

Good Omens Fanfic Rec (08 Aug 2024)
Crazy Little Thing (Called Love) (9K; Rated T) by @hermiola
Aziraphale tries to ask Crowley on a date, and Crowley thinks Aziraphale is asking him to help pick someone up at the bar. Very funny story by an author who positively nailed the voices of the characters.
***
Gen Az (1.5K; Rated G) by @on1occasionfork
Aziraphale makes an effort (not that kind of effort) to get with the times. It goes...poorly.
You'll lose it at "Yo fam" and won't recover until you finish.
***
From Foxclere (with love?) (151K; Rated T)
Now this is an intense story. I actually started it the previous week, but I couldn't read it without breaks. It starts mere hours after Aziraphale leaves for Heaven, so when the events begin to unfold, the two are still angry and hurt. They have neither the time nor the emotional capacity to fix their problems as they try to stop the end of the world (again). They will get their happily ever after, but don't expect it to happen any time soon.
***
How To Save An Archangel (The Angelic Assistant Story) (8K; Rated T) by @waitingtobebroken
Part 3 of Kidnapping a Supreme Archangel For Fun and Profit. In this one, Supreme Archangel Aziraphale's noble assistant, Agiel, is determined to keep their boss safe from the wily hands of the Duke of Hell Crowley. If only the Supreme Archangel wasn't constantly getting kidnapped. Another fun and funny short, this time from Agiel's POV.
***
A Bit of Crumpet (32K; Rated T) by @amuseoffyre
Human AU. Aziraphale gets dumped by his fiance (Gabriel) and decides to fly back to London to confront him. On the way, he meets a handsome, troublesome ginger who is a whole lot nicer than he seems.
***
The Serpent Under It (41K; Rated T) by @amuseoffyre
Superhero AU. Crowley is the supervillain known as The Serpent. Aziraphale is a Youtube journalist he frequently kidnaps, so that the superhero, Divine, can thwart his "evil" plans. Crowley is an absurd and often silly villain, full of overly-complicated plans, cackling laughter, and ridiculous costumes. He sends Aziraphale gift baskets to apologize for kidnapping him.
Much like Hereditary Enemies (154K; Rated T) by @braver-stronger-smarter, this superhero AU is loosely based off Megamind.

New fic! Entry Requirements
Tumblr media
so @gleafer made some ridiculously hot art again (here, patron locked) and I got inspired!
Entry Requirements
Summary:
Shy virgin Ezra Fell just wants to get off to a good start for his first undergraduate term at University College London. When he meets a handsome stranger at the Waterstones coffee shop, he quickly realizes he's less concerned about the good start, and more interested in the getting off. Good thing he’s always been a quick study!
Excerpt:
“Come back to mine?” Anthony murmured in his ear, his breath and tongue now devastating the skin just below it, his teeth now grazing Ezra’s earlobe. “Unless, this is too fast for you.” He started to draw away, and Ezra chased him back against the door, pushing hard so that it rattled in its frame. He pressed his mouth against Anthony’s neck, nosing aside the collar of his jumper so he could taste. He could, it was allowed apparently. The skin there was warm and damp, alive, gorgeous. “Is this fast enough?” he murmured back, hoping he sounded at least a tiny bit experienced. Anthony chuckled, but his hands were tight on Ezra’s waist. “It’ll do.”

Here is a lovely long fic, full of fluff and laughs. I find myself jealous of Crowley’s farmer’s market bag, and Aziraphale’s ability to tell a scary story.
I will also second the author’s wish for fan art of Aziraphale’s sketches, and throw in a request for his Halloween costume as well (not sure any of us could handle Crowley’s).
And if you need any further convincing to read this, it’s by the author of “Our Homeward Steps Were Just as Light,” (@on1occasionfork) the lovely little tale of A & C meeting in a nursing home. (And if you haven’t read that one yet, you really should).

Good Works Chapter 8: I Want to Break Free
 Good Works Written by Majnoona
CW: mostly just the usual emotional rollercoaster and unfortunately time period accurate homophobia
Summary:
It's 1987 London and anti-gay sentiment is on the rise ahead of the government's push to pass Section 28 to prohibited the "promotion of homosexuality" by local authorities -- including banning books and education in schools.
Why do Fell, low level government administrator, and Crowley, a "fixer" for a nefarious consulting company and reluctant queer community organiser, keep running into each other -- quite literally? Is it just romantic fate bringing together two middle aged "confirmed bachelors" who thought it was too late to find love, or is there some other connection? Can they figure it out? (Are they sure they want to?)
Chapter Excerpt:
“You're not going to come in?” Aziraphale was suddenly at his window, day bag in hand, backlit by the sun. The light forced Crowley to squint even with glasses firmly in place, but he didn’t look away. “Oh, but you can't just sit out here in the car! Not after all that driving.”
“I assumed I wasn't wanted,” Crowley admitted with a sniff. “Top secret business and all that. Anyway, I told you, love it.”  He gave the dash a pat. “It's my favourite thing to do, sit in this car.” Where he couldn’t cause any more problems, he didn’t add.
“But it could be hours .” Aziraphale looked honestly distraught at the thought. “It just wouldn’t be right.” Both his hands went for the same button and he ended up covering one with the other in a pleading fist, brow furrowed under the halo of white curls. They must pop back like a spring if you were to give one a (gentle) pull. Were they as soft as they looked? Would a touch smooth away those lines of concern?

Amazing individuals!
All of my appreciation for @on1occasionfork, @addledmongoose, and everyone else who has recommended stuff I've posted on AO3 as Bravelight.
My age is showing because I am shit at finding recommendations that happen outside of Tumblr but I am so fucking grateful.
It will never cease to amaze me when people rec my works. I am overwhelmed and so awestruck. This fandom can be so damn delightful.

This week I have mostly been reading...
Jun 10-16th, 2024
It’s that time again! Here’s what I’ve been poring over this week!
Completed works I've read this week:
The Art of Letting Go by NekHen Rated E – By the same author as Rough Enough For Love, this is an unfinished work but ends in a satisfying place. Reading through the comments, it would appear that the author has passed away, which is absolutely horrendous and so, so incredibly sad. Much like REFL, this is a Soft Dom A/Sub C story. This narrative is so incredibly soft, gentle, and well thought out, I think it’ll be one I will read again and again. There is a great deal of subtle psychology behind it and explores a great deal of trauma within the dynamic. The ‘soft’ aspect is truly soft, unlike some other stories. I cannot recommend this fic enough.
Impromptu Collab by @mrghostrat Rated E – A standalone PWP oneshot within the And They Were Streamers AU universe. It was hot. It was smutty. It was gratuitous. Everything I love. I needed a ATWS fix and this was just perfect. 10/10, no notes.
Angel-Centered Therapy Through a Multicultural Lens: An Integrative Approach by Nnm Rated G – This should have been under my WIPs but due to it’s very occasional updates, I accidentally left it off. This is the companion fic to one of the Big GO classic fics: Demonology and the Tri-Phasic Model of Trauma: An Integrative Approach. This time it is Aziraphale who gets therapy, and it goes just about as well as you might expect. I read Demonology in one go, whereas I’ve been reading this fic as it came out, and I think it’s definitely better read in one continuous flow. The tags are absolutely amazing, as well.
WIPs which have updated this week (which I devour as soon as I get the update!)
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out by @phoen1xr0se Rated M - A is a researcher (puffins!), C is a lighthouse keeper on the island where A has run away to to escape his problems and do his research. The author has recently spent a week studying puffins - which is the ultimate dedication, if you ask me. Ch 10/26 posted so far
Find The Light by @klikandtuna Rated E - Headmaster A and Rockstar C. The story teases out a fraught history between them whilst keeping a tension between them in the modern day. Ch 12/15 posted so far
Under The Summer Stars by @pannotbread Rated E - This wonderful fic has taught me more about physics than school ever did (mostly because I never did any physics, but...well). A & C have to share their time at an observatory because there is Only One Telescope. Not only will you learn about astrophysics, astrobiology, and astroecology, you'll also read some of the most poetically, beautifully written masturbation scenes I've ever seen. *ahem* Ch 8/13 posted so far
Poetry Carved In Flesh by @fellandcrow Rated E – Tattoo enthusiast A becomes a fan of tattooist C’s work, but doesn’t have any tattoos himself. C convinces him to get tattoos…but due to distance, A can’t get any work done by C. Until C comes to see him. This fic has GORGEOUS artwork, and speaks to my tattoo-obsessed soul. It’s an A-falls-first-C-falls-harder story, which is always fun. It also features ghostrat’s Nice and Accurate fandom. Ch 7/16 posted so far
But, soft! by @on1occasionfork Rated M – This delightful human AU features cats! Two cats!! Both A & C have cats, A’s cat breaks in to C’s flat to be with his cat. This leads to A & C meeting and getting closer, and of course pining commences. It’s so lovely. And sweet. And fluffy. A wonderful story if you’re looking for a soft, fluffy, slow burn. Ch 12/30 posted so far.
Exodus_2 by @tismrot Rated E – Human AU set in a dystopian future. The summary says it best, really: Ezra studies programming at the University of ha-Gan. He’s as determined as he is damaged, as fastidious as he is precise, and likes to believe he'll stop at nothing to achieve his goals. His beliefs are challenged when a new student appears late to the first Ethics module lecture - and his life is changed forever. It's the future, it's dystopian, it's cyber and it's punk. It's political, grimy and slick with tears, lube and chemical snot. TW: Sex, drugs, trauma. Ch 31/35 posted so far
Free by well, me: imposterssyndrome Rated E - A & C meet (again?) in an acute mental health ward after both having had mental health crises. A runs a bookshop but is very much under his parents' control. C has been homeless since childhood and has struggled his entire life. They do not trust each other when they first meet, but feel strangely drawn to one another all the same. Where will this lead them? This is a passion piece for me. There is a lot of lived experience in it, and extensive research from both professionals and peers. It has been a real journey for me to write it, and as I'm coming closer to the end it's becoming very emotional for me. Ch 55/57 posted so far
Want to see more recs? This is last week's list.

A few weeks ago, I saw this post from @fellshish along with a few of the comments:
Tumblr media
Last night when I couldn't sleep, it popped into my head, and well, this happened — a little twist on the above.
Wise As Serpents
Rated G, total fluff with just a bit of pining
Summary: Aziraphale makes a few new friends while he waits for his oldest and dearest to return to him.
Excerpt:
It was the third time this week he’d come across a scaly form during one of his daily walks. Each time had been on an oft-traversed footpath, and with the weather getting warmer, humans were out and about just as much as the snakes. He did hope he wasn’t putting them out. Goodness knows he wasn’t sure how he’d feel if a very large hand scooped him up just when he was on his way to meet a friend for brunch and deposited him elsewhere. Still, it wouldn’t do for them to run afoul of any wary humans who were more likely to strike first and ask questions later (such as is this very ordinary green snake venomous? and could I merely wait for another minute so it can get to wherever it’s going or must I wallop it with my handbag?). Yes, much better that he — who did have some experience with snakes after all…well, one snake, at least — see them safely on their way. He silently wished the little fellow — or gal? How did one tell? And would Crowley find it terribly impolite if he were to ask? — well, and continued on his walk.

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. spread the self-love ❤
Tagging @kneelbeforeyourdogbabylon, @isiaiowin & @on1occasionfork who also asked me this! I only have 11 fics, so we are doing like nearly 50% of them here.
These are all Good Omens! The Human Manual. My most popular fic! Angelic Aziraphale & Angelic Crowley get up to shenanigans in Heaven while Making an Effort for the first time. Rated E for double Efforts.
Crowley goes for a ride. Aziraphale/Crowley. Pure delicious crack, but with feelings. They have sex on a bike. It's entirely as silly as that sounds, but people seem to love it. It has Aziraphale in bike shorts! Rated E.
I’m Dreaming of a Light (and Dark) Christmas. Aziraphale/Crowley. Human AU. Two shopkeepers battle it out in a Hallmark-esque fight over Christmas lights. This is my first ever fic and it keeps getting kudos in Summer so I must be doing something right. Rated T (but it could probably be a G).
Angel, it’s cold outside. Aziraphale/Crowley. Rated E. I basically just wanted a fic of them spooning. This is what happened. Cute, funny, and bittersweet.
Coming Home - A Choose Your Own Adventure Story. Aziraphale/Crowley. Definitely rated E. I had the pleasure of being one of the 30(!) writers on this! I learned what sex pollen was and then went feral for it, wrote a disturbing threesome, and still get disgruntled comments on one of my bad endings. Mwhahaha.

Runaway Groom - Chapter 9
With the compliments of my beta angel @somewhere-in-wales 💜
EXCERPT FROM CHAPTER 9 - CAR RIDE
“I’ve never said this to anyone, but…when I was at uni, I did want to become a novelist.” Aziraphale’s eyes twinkled with curiosity whilst he smiled at Crowley, “Really? Were you ever published?” “Uhm, no, no.” Crowley shrugged. “But I…uhm, I still have a draft of a book saved, uhm…somewhere.” “What was it about?” Aziraphale was probably showing too much appreciation for the single fact that Crowley had produced something of his own, an original Anthony J. Crowley. But he didn’t care. “You’ll laugh at me.” “I won’t.” “You will.” “I won’t, I promise.” Aziraphale tried his puppy dog look and pouted, knowing that it usually worked with Anathema whenever he really wanted something. “Oh, fine.” Crowley gave in after a quick glance in his direction. “It was a fantasy romance.” Aziraphale gaped at him, “Fantasy romance like…Twilight?” he joked, stifling a chuckle. “See? I knew you’d laugh.” Crowley scoffed all the same. “I’m not laughing, I’m not!” “No, it was more an angels-demons themed kind of fantasy. Heaven, Hell, Armageddon…” “And where did the romance fit in that?” Crowley smiled, and it reached his sharp cheekbones, “The main characters were an angel and a demon of male appearance…who fell in love.” He sighed.

Good Omens Fanfic Friday (12 Jul 2024)
Some light-hearted ones; some serious ones this week. Pretty wide variety of stories, though for a change, it's all canon adjacent/compliant. No human AU in the list.
There's No I in Team (But There Is in Discourse) (1K; Rated E) by @hollybennett123
Crowley invented top/bottom discourse just for a laugh, and it's getting in the way of Aziraphale's social media browsing.
***
Wise As Serpents (2.2K; Rated G) by @on1occasionfork
Aziraphale makes friends with the snakes in St. James Park.
***
Aziraphael, the Last to Fall (37K; Rated M)
Reverse Omens. I love how the characters are portrayed here. Crowley isn't just "demon!Crowley but angel". He's someone who never Fell and his attitude and behavior reflects that. Aziraphale, on the other hand, Fell for doing what he thought was a good thing, and he's not just "angel!Aziraphale but demon". His animal aspect is a moth. He's still sweet and kind and loving, but he's also sad and depressed and doesn't respect or love God. It's mostly a through-the-ages story, from their first meeting in Gomorrah until Armageddon.
It is commonly thought that when Lucifer and his followers were cast out of heaven, that this was rather the end of the whole thing, and everyone could get back to what they were supposed to be doing, such as praying, rejoicing in the glory of the Almighty, guarding trees, and so forth.
But in actuality, although it doesn’t appear in the Bible, and has, by all accounts, been rather hushed up by all parties concerned, there was one more angel who fell from grace. Not for his part in the Great Rebellion (violence, on the whole, made him feel slightly queasy, and he’d managed to be somewhere else on the day itself), but for his flagrant disobedience in following one of Her earliest commands.
In short, he gave away a sword.
***
Kidnapping A Supreme Archangel For Fun And Profit (series) (12K; Rated T) by @waitingtobebroken
Currently a two-part series. In the first story, Grand Duke of Hell Crowley kidnaps the Supreme Archangel in order to inflict vile and torturous things on him, like dragging him to a sushi restaurant and making him walk with him in the park.
In part 2, an outsider POV, Crowley's assistant Kric (Eric with a K) is tasked with acts of incredible Hellishness, like bringing flowers to the Supreme Archangel (because flowers are poisonous to humans and angels, you see) and booking restaurants so the demon lord can overfeed his nemesis. Part 2 is particularly fun, with Kric always misunderstanding Crowley's actions. The author plans one with Aziraphale's assistant's POV, which I'm looking forward to.
***
Thanks for the Memories (43K; Rated E)
Something happened in Heaven, and Crowley finds himself with an amnesiac angel on his hands. If you enjoy memory loss fics, this is a great one.
***
Stuck On You (57K; Rated E) by @zin-lynn-c
This one has been recommended a lot lately for good reason. It's a fantastic canon-adjacent story (and an explanation of where the apology dance came from).
After a drunken handfasting ceremony goes awry, Crowley and Aziraphale find themselves magically bound to be touching at all times. In order to set the situation to rights, they must embark on a multi-day journey to seek help from the last true witch in England.
