was gonna make a joke about this and have this be a shitpost instead but honestly may pass out soon so I'll type this seriously cause I have no energy to come up with a clever joke

it's interesting how vox's insults in stayed gone are literally just different ways of saying "you're old and outdated you're old and outdated you're old and outdated you're old and outda" tackled with a bit of "you're a coward" in there, whereas alastor's insults are not jabs at vox being new or modern tech, but rather his practices, "clout-chasing mediocre video podcast" he's saying he's a pandering, attention-seeking sellout, and he targets at vox's insecurities, questions his power, then makes fun of him for still being salty about his rejection.

I feel like it's pretty telling how vox's insults are just SO shallow, while alastor's cut deeper and more personally. while you could say, alastor may be just better at roasting than vox, I feel like it could also tell you something about alastor's hatred of vox being based on actual reason, which makes sense, he is the one who rejected the idea of being on a team with vox, the one who decided to make the decision to step away from their friendship. there were likely legitimate things about vox that alastor started to notice he didn't like.

whereas vox's hatred is extremely petty, he's still pissy over that rejection, he has no reasonable reason to hate on alastor's practices or medium. literally ALL he has is constantly repeating how tv is better and newer and how radio is worse and older, that he literally uses that SAME snap back even after alastor has his part "what a dated voice!" "you're looking at the future! he's the shit that comes before that!". he has NOTHING on alastor. if you asked him to make a list about what he hated about alastor he would probably just give you 10000 synonyms of "he's old and outdated" and be unable to come up with anything non-superficial. because the falling out on his part, from his perspective, was being rejected. and after that, BLIND RAGE. he hates alastor. he does. but he can't reasonably tell you why.

thank you! 💚💚💚 I'm not really sure why you think I don't like the earlier arcs though, I love pretty much all the characters and their storis! (I think 5 and 1 are my favorite of the past episodes, though 6 infected me with the Shroud brainrot something fierce.) I just...ESPECIALLY love diasomnia. :') but there is room in my heart for all of these dweebs! like, who among us is not just as ride-or-die for Adeuce as they are for us.

that said, I don't really follow the other adaptations like the manga (aside from a dip-in just to see the new Yuus) or the novels, though I keep meaning to check them out! I do like seeing the differences between the different forms of media, and how certain things get adapted one way or another! but alas, time/a lack of accessibility stands in our way more often than not. :( someday...someday I will have time to consume all of the media...

it really does feel like console gaming peaked with the 3ds and wii and i know rationally that this is an opinion with a sizeable chunk of personal nostalgia behind it but also when a game was for ds or wii it meant you could really only play it on that console because it leaned on the unique functionally of the console. two screens! motion controls! it enabled creativity on the part of developers. nowadays consoles and pcs are functionally interchangeable boxes that you plug a controller into and handheld consoles are just pcs in the shape of tablets and actual handheld gaming goes on phones now except the phone games make pc and console ports anyway because they're too heavy for normal phones and they all have microtransactions

I've mentioned at least once that I think it's really funny that Apollo and Klavier would both think they're out of each other's league but I don't think I've mentioned the potential for how fucking sad it could be. I know I mentioned it in a post about Klavier being a celebrity and that potentially putting some level of strain on their relationship but I haven't talked about it in the context of how mentally fucked up they both are.

Like I personally think they're both so messed up mentally that in addition to "he's so out of my league" they'd also both be incredibly insecure about their relationship for a while. On Apollo's end, I think it'd be a "I don't deserve him, why is he always doing things for me" situation (basically thinking he doesn't deserve the kindness Klavier offers him) and on Klavier's end it'd be "he could do so much better than a washed up rockstar who lashes out the second something doesn't go as planned" (basically thinking he doesn't deserve to have Apollo in his life at all because of his mental health issues) and that's an angle of Klapollo I think deserves to be explored more.

the roomies!!! i originally designed this ososan oc trio in full about a year ago to write on an rp blog. it's not really active rn, but i still want to talk and post about 'em, so here they are! just basic rundowns, but i'd be curious to hear which one (if any) is your fav of the three (feel free to leave it in the tags?? if u want!)

anzu:

i wanted to use orange as a character colour bc it's one that wasn't already used in the matsu rainbow, and i had a concept of a gyaru character named anzu kicking around in my head for a long time as well, so here we are. miwa from the mixer ep inspired the eyeshadow (orange rather than miwa's blue obv, to keep with her colour theme) and delinquent totoko's design inspired her ombre dyejob! i went with a blonde-to-orange look as a nod to anzu's namesake fruit (apricot).

the strands framing her face are split into 3 sections at the end (2/3 are grouped together and 1/3 flips in the other direction) which is a little nod to her being one of 3 siblings (eldest), as well as the "三" character used in her surname (mikado) meaning 3. the rest of her hairstyle is just because i thought it looked cute, though.

ososan's style is more simplified, but i wanted to convey makeup that was a little bold, but cute (long false lashes, eyeshadow, & and a soft pink or nude glossy lip). clothing-wise, she mixes and matches a few different substyles (agejo and onee are prominent, with some ane, tsuyome, and general old school gal influences as well?), with a particular fondness for animal prints, esp. tiger print. (that said, orange tiger print doesn't seem all that common in gyaru clothes, so in-universe i like to think that the top pictured above was originally a black-and-white zebra(?) stripe print she thrifted and dyed at home--close enough!)

her nails day to day are usually medium length since she has a lot of hobbies that involve her hands and anything longer makes those things a bit more cumbersome. sometimes they're decoden/bedazzled, sometimes they're just painted a cute colour/pattern, depends on the day! and i think she opts for press-ons over extensions for longer nails, since it's cheaper.

ran:

i'm just a bitch who loves purple, that's the reason for this one. i think the hime cut with shorter bangs is nice because you can showcase the eyebrows (i think eyebrows can really elevate a character design so i gave all 3 their own brow shape) without worrying about the lines for the eyebrows and bangs intersecting in an annoying way when you draw it. i like shorter, slightly sharp eyebrows like these because they're easy to draw, lol. i think they're usually furrowed like she's displeased with something, but that may just be her resting face. i also thought this blunter, sharper-looking cut (bold, standoffish) was a fun contrast to anzu's flippy half-updo (bright, bouncy) and yuzu's short, wavy hair (languid, relaxed).

5 piercings on each ear (2 spiked helix & 3 lobe) = 5 siblings including ran (4 older brothers). the other reason for this number of piercings was that her namesake flower (orchid) had--i thought--5 petals, but as it turns out i'm a fool, it's actually 3 petals (including the lip) and 3 sepals??? ah, well.

clothing-wise, influences from various punk/vkei styles alongside some rokku gyaru. (maybe anzu introduced her to this one?) this brash style is the total inverse of how she was expected to dress growing up. (when she and anzu first met, she was an OL with no piercings, undyed hair, and positively miserable, but that was a number of years ago now.) i'm really not reinventing the wheel with "small and angry", but y'know, we have fun here.

yuzu:

is teal distinct enough from blue to count as its own colour? i think so. for yuzu, i really loved the concept of a deadpan-looking character who is very much not the straightman, who in fact wants very badly to be the funnyman 99% of the time. that kind of straight-faced but silly comedic character is always really fun to me.

half-lidded/heavy-lidded eyes paired with thick brows are always a winner to me fsr, and i wanted to give her a more "handsome" looking face with a bit more of a defined jaw than you typically see on women in ososan. as a treat. i wanted her to look a bit like a mysterious prettyboy, but she's not actually mysterious, she's just a space cadet. (and very straightforward about her thoughts and feelings, saying them with little fuss or thought.) expectation vs reality, people deciding what you're like based on their own perception vs what you're actually like, etc. etc.

i don't have anything deep to say about her hairstyle, but maybe that's how yuzu would like it, what you see is what you get. (again, eyebrows vs hair... let that eyebrow scar that i gave her for no reason shine.) as for clothing, she prefers things that are easy to move around in, so her style is the most "matsuno"-like (t-shirts, hoodies, basketball shorts, sweats, etc.). in particular, she likes shirts with phrases, usually in english, that are funny or almost make sense but not quite ("for background visual gags" and "for the english speakers in the audience").

thoughts on mark/helly and mark/gemma?

they’re inseparable from the context of each other, and then some; despite the season literally ending on a choice, I don’t think markhelly or markgemma are as interesting on their own as the totality of mark/helly/helena/gemma is. the end of the finale hits so hard because it’s where that blurriness runs into a wall. the severance procedure has made this an either/or situation because there is literally no way for both versions of mark to walk through the same door. but he loves both of them. I think we should be torn!

I’m torn, severance style, in the sense that I’m pretty clearly a gemma girl (I imprinted on her. to be honest it wasn’t even just “chikhai bardo”! I went into this season very focused on getting that dead wife out of there. we are who we are), and!!! (not but, and) in my head I know markhelly defying an oppressive and dehumanizing existence to find love is the whole point. my thoughts on markhelly are basically this post. love and light, but as a work crush, markhelly didn’t really move me until they brought in helena and mark’s wife to muddy it up a little. but once they did that, they had my attention. and they earned the purity of their rebellion too. they’re stealing their humanity back.

trying to hold contradictory truths in the holding contradictory truths show has been revealing! it's made me feel at odds with myself, which I think is what makes severance great tv, but I haven't always felt like I'm in line with the way people talk about it, because that tension has really been part of it for me, and I don't know if it has been for everyone. but I don’t watch tv to "win" it! and what’s good about severance is that every win is also a loss. what I want to see emotionally isn’t always the same as what I want narratively anyway, e.g. one thing that I want is to see mark and gemma back together, but I lean toward thinking the show shouldn't actually give it to me in the end, because mark has to suffer the consequences of trying to bury his pain by severing himself. he didn’t want to face his grief, so he created a version of himself who can’t remember it, and who, as a result, doesn’t listen to that grief. it's narratively right! what happens at the end of season 2 is a victory and it's a huge loss. the show about the folly of not wanting to feel anything uncomfortable wants you to feel it all equally. but I think it also knows you won't, because feelings don't work like that

I think I have? Do you mean for the whole game or per update? Truth be told, I'm still writing for the full game hahaha! The storyline has changed so much over the course of development (trust me, for the better) that I can't say I regret taking my time with it.

I'd say one script would take me 2-3 months until I'm satisfied with it, and even then I'll still re-write interactions as I work on the assets and coding them into the game.

Extra rambles below:

It's only during working on MO does it open my eyes that ideas just come when you least expect it, and they just keep evolving until it gets better! You know how sometimes a movie feels badly written, like it was rushed? Yeah, early versions of MO felt like it was cobbled together by a five-year old staging a play. I cringe just thinking of an earlier version of Day 2 and Day 3, good grief.

Days 2 and 3 started out incredibly different, but now the writing's fully finalized for both and I'm happy with the direction I took with them! Now all I need are Day 3's assets, of which I'm actively working on any free time I get.

I have Days 4 and 5 as WIPs from the beginning, but they continue to change and get drafted multiple times already simply because the game evolved differently than I intended. The only thing I can promise is I'll do my best to make it a slow burn (or a fast burn depending on what you do for some endings but it might not end well 😳) I just hope players like what I have in store!
