SCREAM 2 OPINIONS GO🔪🔪🔫🔫

Ok so I actually really like scream 2, I think it exists well within the spirit of what a scream movie should be in that it interacts with a horror sequel in the same way that Scream 1 interacts with slasher movies(and to be fair, other horror) generally.

Sidney is literally bored with Ghostface, and we see that in her first on screen appearance. It's a pretty simple scene but I think it does a good job of conveying some information about where Sid's at in life. Because now when she gets a call from ghostface it's nothing she hasn't dealt with before, she had caller I.D now. It's suggested that she's been getting prank calls from "ghostface" for a while now and she's over it. I like that for her. It's a nice evolution for a final girl, and the movie communicates it well in one scene.

She also has a cute little bob now so points for that. Very sapphic.

We also have the fact that the Woodsboro massacre has been commodified and is being made into a movie a mere 2 years after it happened. Gale is partly to blame for that but it still feels wild, especially because the tone of Stab isn't very serious, it's very much a blockbuster horror movie and not a crime-drama even though it's based on what is in universe a true crime case.

Director Wes Craven doesn't believe violence on film should be toned down and made comfortable for a general audience, so I kind of read the in-universe presence of the Stab franchise as Scream 2 making a comment on the way that real tragedies get re-packaged and sold as stories.

We also have Mickey and Nancy's kill list- it's a hollow replication of the murders in the first movie, and I don't mean that scream 2 does a bad job with them I mean that Mickey and Nancy kind of do. How do they pick their victims? Aside from the core group of people close to Sidney they're basically just random people with the right names.

Maureen Evans, Phil Stevens, and Casey "Cici" Cooper.

These victims have no personal connection to the killers or to Sidney for the most part, they're literally just there to be bodies. In contrast Billy and Stu had a personal, petty little kill list, all people that pissed them off or got in thier way somehow. Again, this feels like it fits in with the theme of commercialism, sequels bet on hitting the same notes as the original, but often fail to provide the same kind of motivation and backing.

(The only victim without that kind of connection in the original is Himbry and that’s explained by the fact that his death wasn’t in the original script, it was added in because executives thought the movie needed another kill since there’s so much space between the Casey and Steve murders and everything that happens at the party. So again, a product of commercialism.)

But I think the lack of connection Nancy and Mickey have with their victims is also commentary on the horror sequel, particularly with slasher movies where most of the cast died in the original. Sequels have a tendency to just throw a new cast at you without spending the same time and care developing them, they’re just designed to fit the same archetypes as the original (Mickey=Stu, Derek=Billy, Hallie=Tatum). Studios bank on the fact that you liked it the first time, so you’ll like it again if they check the same boxes.

Scream 2 doesn’t give us hollow copies though, and that’s what makes it a good movie, these replacements are designed for the most part as comments on the original. I think the best example here is Derek, who does actually fit the archetype Billy was pretending to be (popular, charismatic, outgoing) but he still doesn’t actually understand Sid or her trauma, which is where he parallels Billy the most. He just isnt trying to manipulate Sid like Billy was.

I also think the relationship between the killers works well with the theme of commercialism in sequels. The original killers are almost defined by their relationship to each other. Like, Stu does what he does purely out of his attachment to Billy. Billy and Nancy are both motivated by revenge and familial love, which is a theme through many of the other scream movies.

But Mickey isn’t motivated out of his attachment to Nancy, he has a financial motive. She’s literally bankrolling him, and he’s looking for fame. If we’re thinking cynically about horror sequels they are motivated by financial gain, relying on the success of the original to get people to buy in. Just like Mickey.

And in general the sequel just pushes so much over the top, with the first kill happening in the middle of the theater being perceived as a publicity stunt, to Randy being killed out in the open in broad daylight. It’s the classic sequel thing that all of the scream movies comment on- you need to raise the stakes.

Honestly there’s probably more I could say but I’ve already written an essay 🙃 yeah. I like scream 2. Good movie.

she is literally unbeaten as ghostface, imo. she had the most interesting motive and she survived the third act! she almost got AWAY with it!

i fucking LOVE her character, and i think mikey madison’s performance is one of the best in the franchise. her reveal is also sooo memorable

4.) Quinn

she’s insanely over-hated, lol. i was shocked by her reveal and i will always root for a female killer! ++ she gave us one of the most iconic calls in the franchise with gale, so??? also i actually rlly liked the bailey-kirsches motives and i think they were way better executed in revenge than mrs loomis

5.) Ethan

😵‍💫 this one will cause controversy but i rank the ghostfaces on vibes and i liked his, lol. he was fucking BRUTAL behind the mask, and he was a total bitch in a funny way in the last act 🤷

6.) Stu

he would be higher but i think his fans are really annoying and that’s soured my opinion on him lol matthew lillard is such a talented actor though!

he was just kind of camp! + his motive was unique because he actually wanted to be caught

he edges out mrs. loomis slightly lol originally i did not like his character OR the actors performance at all but with a bit of time i get he was going for something kind of crazy and camp style wise

When she hears the news of another set of Ghostface murders, her life seems to spiral out of control again, and what little stability she was able to create for herself shatters like glass. She resolves to end things, once and for all, no matter what it takes.

Takes place between Scream 4 and Scream 6, canon-compliant until it diverges into a Scream 6 AU.

Hi honey, today was rough tbh. Hope yours is going well! I LOVE LOVE LOVE THE SCREAM FRANCHISE, could, would, and have, talked about it for hours. You're in for it now anon. The first one has an air of nostalgia to it, not to mention it's a classic. Scream two is so underrated and I personally really like it. Scream 3 wasn't my favourite as I thought the script writing and cinematography left something to be desired, however the plot was incredible and important for pre Scream 1 context. Scream 4 was good as it was released much later than the original trilogy, film quality and visual components were enhanced. Also the motive for Jill I thought was really cool, the whole wanted fame after living in Sid's shadow all her life. Not to mention that she was incredibly clever and almost got away with it. Scream 5 was good bc Amber, Tara, and Sam obviously. The motives were garbage in my opinion but the visual gore components to the movie was cool, I also liked the shift of the franchise from Ghostfaces perpetually onto Sid moving on to Sam for being a Loomis. SPEAKING OF SAMANTHA LOOMIS-CARPENTER, I love that Sam is Billy's daughter and gets targeted for it. Leading into Scream 6, Tara and Sam regrowing their relationship after Sam left Tara pre scream 5 has me sobbing. "I wanna be in your life...but only as much as you want me to be." AND THEN TARA'S IMMEDIATE "I want you to be." AHHHHHHH THEIR RELATIONSHIP IS SO SO IMPORTANT TO ME. Anyway yeah the plot of 6 was okay, the whole family revenge for Richie was cool. And the cinematography was good. This is only a sneak peak I have so much more to say... This is all but a brief summary of my Scream opinions :) I'm so sorry for sending such a long response 😭

YES, Scream 1 and 2 are superior and none of the movies have had the chemistry between the cast or great actors or vibes like these two had.

After that I do like Scream 4 only for Jill's GF and motive. I WISH THEY STUCK TO THE ORIGINAL SCRIPT BC IT WOULD HAVE BEEN 10X BETTER HAD THEY DONE THAT

Then 3 bc even tho I love it and Roman was shocking it still feels so out there that it almost doesn't feel like Scream plus Randy really could have made this movie and I still think he should have lived till 3. I love Dewey as much as Randy but if we HAD to have a second movie kill of an og; Dewey in 2. Randy in 3.

5 was meh for me. I tried so hard to like it but the acting except Jenna Ortega was not very convincing, the writing was so fanfiction, the Ghostfaces were unoriginal and boring and Sam just isn't the character I really care to pass the Sidney torch to. Idc if I'm 'missing the point' bc they're mocking fanfics and superfans. Still my least favorite. I turn it off once the killers are revealed bc I truly loose interest with it.

Here we are again, another year of horror watching by moi has officially begun. Like I officially decided last year, instead of waiting until October like I normally did when I first started these challenges, I’m gonna be doing these things all-year round from now on. Since horror has definitely shot its way up higher as a favorite movie genre of mine now cuz of doing this and it makes it more fun. Anyway, I had already watched this but wanted to wait to make a post for it once the movie was available to rewatch from the comfort of my own home. Because I wanted to give myself time to have my thoughts gathered fully beforehand because, yeah, I had things to say. 

Well, if there’s anything I think I’ve made clear on here time and time again, it’s that I love Scream. I really do. I think it made its mark in the genre and earned the status of being a modern classic with great performances and a smart script. The sequels don’t always land as good but they’re entertaining as well. I feel like this one was on par with that expectation at least. It certainly wasn’t going to outdo the original but I had fun with it. That said, I totally called the twist with the killers weeks in advance before watching so there’s that.... Some of the kids were kinda annoying so my investment level wasn’t really quite there for them, but I did find Mason Gooding’s himbo character to be pretty cute. lol And I did also feel for Jenna Ortega’s character. Was not a fan of the new lead girl personally, at all. Thank God for the OGs. Sydney was on point the whole time imo, reminding why she’s one of the best final girls ever. And Gale was entertaining as always. The kills were pretty solid. But man, I just wish they would change up the formula with the actual killers for once because I feel like my work friends and I came up with better twists on the fly than what we saw. This could have been so much better story-wise. But I did still have fun watching it tbh cuz some of this shit really was hilarious imo. So trust, I’ll still be watching that next sequel ngl. lmao

Scream (2022)

This is when thing’s can turn controversial. I Prefer the sequel over the original and have a deep soft spot for the 3rd film in the franchise.  cream in the purest of forms is a love letter. A Bloody and often times gruesome love letter. With Wes craven having passed in 2015 many wondered how or if any new films would be made. Radio silence came in and gave us another solid entry in the slasher franchise. When watching scream my favorite aspect is getting the references layered in the film. Some were obvious as other's were for die hard fans. From the script into the characters themselves it all blended in wonderfully. No Spoiler Review of scream (2022)Scream follows a new path of mayhem and slaughter back to the streets of woodsburrow. People are dying and the killer once again is hidden behind the ghostface mask. The kills here are more graphic in nature. The teens playing by new rules as this is a requel and not just a reboot or a sequel. This is done in a toung and cheak way that feels like the other scream films. They need help and this is were the legacy

 characters come into play. For the most part the film is laid out beautifully. It's great to see the faces most of us have grown up with. Radio silence took some risk that I'm not sure everyone will get onboard with. These risk for me felt more in vein that the gloves were off. As for the teen cast some work and other's i just wished they were killed off. One of the most off putting idea's for the film is that every character seems to have a relation toward another character in the scream cannon. I Feel we could have had one or two and then the rest of the cast was just along for the ride. As for the legacy characters nev as sidney was missed and you feel that but when she comes on screen it's such a pleasing moment. Arquette and Courtney also fill there roles as if they never left. I'm not going to spoil anything because the films who did it element is a big part of the series.  Just keep your eyes pealed. There is a lot crammed into the film. From name drops and references to the other films. Like i said before it's more a love letter then just another movie in the franchise. I personally see the first two screams as iconic then we have 3 that was way more tounge and cheek. The fourth installment felt like it tried to hard. If i had to give the film a placement it would be 2,1,5,4,3.Scream has it's flaws and the loss of Wes behind the camera at times does hinder. What this film achieves is more then i ever dreamed.

 I Would rate it 3/5 and if you plan on seeing it then watch 1 & 2 again before hand.

SCREAM fans: I've been doing some research about Kevin Williamson's original script for SCREAM 3. Here’s the general storyline I've pieced together from various sources:

1. It is set in Woodsboro during the filming of STAB 3 (rather than in Hollywood).

2. The opening scene features Sidney and a friend being attacked by Ghostface. Sidney kills and unmasks Ghostface, revealing a young stranger.

3. Sidney is then driven into hiding somewhere (whereabouts unknown). She does not return to Woodsboro until late in the film.

4. After Sidney's depature, the main storyline turns to a group of Woodsboro teenagers who are members of a STAB fan club (similar to SCREAM 4). According to Kevin Williamson, the story is "not so much about Sidney anymore. It's about the world that was created with STAB."

5. Throughout the film, several people-- including STAB fan club members-- are killed by Ghostface.

6. Gale Weathers investigates the murders while trying to avoid an actress who is playing her in STAB 3 (they kept this part in the final film). Dewey is, presumably, sheriff of Woodsboro and assists her.

7. The film culminates in a climax at someone’s house (similar to the first and fourth films). Near the end, Sidney walks in and sees all the dead teen bodies on the floor there. The big twist is that none of them are actually dead, and they all rise up (an homage to April Fool's Day).

8. "But wait... THERE'S MORE!" The film's second twist is that Stu Macher is still alive and has been orchestrating everything with the fan club from behind bars in prison.

9. The film's ending is unknown, but I would speculate that the fame-seeking teens probably turn on each other (as the killers tend to do in these films). Whether Stu escapes from prison for the big finale is hard to say.

For 5 are you gonna make Tara a killer? I think it'd be cool like a killer actually got away with playing the victim.like just semi sus behavior and little lines here and there. Like the Carpenters house has a security system so add in that there were cameras inside, so they had to go all out for the attack.

Like Tara has a way better reason to be a killer.It could've even been Tara's idea. She's obsessed with Stab because she found the diary too. Possibly recognized Stus house before Amber and got her into it. Amber joins the subreddit without Tara because she's much more outgoing like Stu. Richie contacts Amber. Maybe Tara and Richie vie for Amber to be on their side. Tara and Amber can even be girlfriends(like in the og script). And Richie is predatory and tries to get with Amber to have numbers over Tara (them calling each other baby was disgusting). It would also make a little sense with both hospital attacks Sam left Tara and Richie alone to take her meds. Amber was in Judy's custody, Richie in the costume and Tara on the phone. Also Tara gave Richie her inhaler. R and T butted heads so much that R really is planning to betray T at the end in the kitchen. And he manipulates A into agreeing. T realizes this after A ties T up but she got lucky w/Sam freeing her.

Idk whis idea it is originally, does it start as a "joke".also it being a mystery will be very hard to hint at but not explain at the end.

Ps please make liv a better red herring maybe something with Vince too. Liv, Vince, and Tara all worked together or something so maybe they are really suspicious. Mindy can even flip and be super sus of them. That's where you bring in Tara's suspicious behavior on some things. Liv and Vinces suspicions go away when they die but at the end in the ambulances someone realizes that Tara's sus things haven't been explained away yet. Why is she trying to run to Amber's with a knife? The Macher house is in the middle of nowhere. How did she shoot the gun so well.

My bad for rambling just excited. And hoping for some Kirby in 4.

Like...There were hardly no red Herrings which is BIZARRE for a scream movie. They were relying so much on nostalgia and "Oh look! it's so and so's relative/kid!" that the ghostfaces LACKED. Scream 5 was the first one where...I hated the Ghostface reveal. I know I have muts that like Richie and Amber; all the power to you. I hated them lol. I didn't even like them as characters, let alone Ghostfaces!

I looked over at my cousin and betted her $5 within the first 30 minutes it's Amber or Tara or Richie. Guess who would have gotten $5 bucks if she didn't lie and didn't have anything on her? lmfao ☠️

The only one that surprised me was Tara not being apart of it. Because you're right!! EVERYTHING that got ghostface closer was Tara. I'd argue she was the only red herring done right.

Scream 5 was nostalgic and had more likeable characters than 4 but its writing was not it for me while 4 at least had a great ghostface and reveal and even the motive was simple but more beileveable. With 5; the plot holes, the marysueification of almost everybody, the way Dewey died, the motive. It could have been so much better I'm sorry.

(As for 4; I only liked Kirby. The way they wrote teens in 2010-11 was ssoooooo overexagerrated. Especially since I was a freshman in Highschool when it came out and the way they wrote these teens as such assholes and tech obsessed was not it. Me and some of my cousins that were 17 didn't even have smartphones yet. That was more 2013 onward and yes it matters. Look at scream 1 where they were shocked Billy had a cellphone and then scream 2 where everyone on campus had one...2 to 3 years makes a difference in trends and gens. Every single one of them was an annoying twat except for Kirby...Like girl, I know you and Jill bond with horror but get new friends.)

Scream 4 and 5 are tied for me. 4 had better writing and ghostfaces. 5 had better characters, atmosphere and meta horror but really lacked in writing and the actual ghostfaces.

I can't reveal ghostfaces yet cause I don't even know but I'm definitely tweaking a lot in 4 and 5.
