i will say, having modded switch games myself on a somewhat underpowered laptop i definitely believe the switch 2 can eventually be emulated with decently low overhead. nintendo is still skimping on its specs and the structure of their os and consoles hasn't changed much since the gamecube so the people who work on emulation have a lot to work with. if you have even a decent computer and are willing to wait it will definitely be cheaper to wait for emulation cuz it's really not such a pipe dream. not everyone is in that position tho so please remember this is just a valid option not the Only Moral Option Forever

since I'm out here making public service announcements today, here's another one

you may have seen the post going around about how amazon has pulled the ability to download ebooks for usb transfer from their site. this is yet another way they're trying to ensure you don't own digital goods you pay for and that they can remove your access at any time, either because of licensing issues or just good old fashioned censorship

before diving into what you can do about this, I will state that I do NOT support piracy of books. authors are not rich corporations and losing sales will hurt them. don't put books up on download sites and don't get them from there (your local library can usually provide ebook access if you can't afford to buy them). what I DO support though is owning the things you buy and keeping an offline copy of them that you can access without amazon apps and that amazon can't just delete off your account

fortunately, even after this change, there's a way to get yourself a permanent copy. see the top comment of the post below (the og post is outdated and the comment has the latest which still works correctly)

make sure you read ALL the directions and uninstall stuff, delete stuff, get the right versions, turn off wifi initially, etc. also, if you already had kindle reader on your pc, I would HIGHLY recommend that you deregister it on amazon's site (under devices and content) before trying this or you may find that some books won't work correctly

also please do not store these exclusively in the cloud, like on gdrive or whatever. keep copies on a local computer or server, back it up on a drive or cd if you still have a burner. do not rely on corporations to allow you access to your own files

Long Loading Times on YouTube Videos?

for my Firefox-using followers who may have noticed that Youtube now takes 8 years to load a video, it's because they're in bed with Google and intentionally making videos take an extra 5 seconds to run on anything but chrome

the solution? firstly, disable cookies so they can't see if you're using an adblocker or anything of the sort

second, install this add-on:

and then to set it up, here's what you do

select Extensions in the top right corner, looks like a little puzzle piece

select User-Agent Switcher and Manager

it'll pull down the menu below, make sure chrome is selected in the top left box and whatever OS you're running

delete existing text in the box at the bottom of the menu, then select the button for the latest version of chrome

the agent ID will appear in the box, then you just click Apply(containter) at the bottom right

Youtube should load with zero issues after that

Anyome who knows anythinf about computers !! I need help! Idk if this is the best way to find that help, but oh well.

I put linux on my pc and now my monitor doesnt work with that pc, but the monitor worked when the pc had windows, and also other monitors work, just not my monitor lmao.

I plugged the computer into my TV and it worked with linux, and also another monitor (not mine so i cant just use that one).

Any help is appreciated, and i can supply specific models, specs, etc. if needed

need to shell out for a new laptop before the end of the year - for a lot of reasons but mainly bc support ending for win8.1 makes fixing the current beast rather pointless :/ (and. admittedly. there is a lot to fix. she's old and she has suffered.)

but my current beastie is from the last gen of laptops with a disc drive and the thought of using an external/usb disc drive is enough to make me cry tears of blood

Hey yall, does anyone know what would cause this? It affects my entire screen.

It appears seemingly at random and is fixed if I restart my pc. It's only on my laptop's display and not the additional monitor.

I'm hoping its not a hardware issue and if it is, an easily fixable one.

Going through the No Thanks boycott app, and I'm once again kinda struck by how watered down the boycott gets when you have this many brands on it.

Like yeah, some of these def belong on here. Netflix staunchly has publicly supported Israel's occupation. So has paramount. Ben&Jerry's Wanted to pull sales from Isreal but their parent company is forcing them to still operate there. Most major tech brands are directly supporting the invasion by giving them the tools to do it.

But then you have p&g. For having a research and development center there. Is Mr. Clean developing a special soap to cleanse the land of those icky native Palestinians. Mainstays is on the list because Walmart sent disaster relief that one time to Isreal. Are we condemning disaster relief now. That feels slippery. Domino's doesn't have any reason at all listed.

Idk I just feel this could be just a little more focused, or at least condensed. Paramount or Coca-Cola doesn't need to be listed 5 separate times on one page. Band-aids have the Johnson and Johnson brand name on their logo, they don't need to be listed separately.

Boycotts are more effective when they're focused.
