Aloha Shirt: Surf, Film and the Far Right Movement
Created in the 1930s by Japanese seamstresses, the Aloha Shirt was originally made from scraps of Kimono fabric. The first Hawaiian shirts were made from Yukata cotton, based on a "Palaka", a shirt worn on the island's plantations.
The tailor "Musa-Shiya the Shirtmaker" was the first to market these shirts. For a few cents, Musa-Shiya would make custom-made pieces from the fabric his customers brought him. The Hawaiian shirt began to be worn by students who after classes became "Beach Boys", the island's surf instructors. After World War II, wealthier Americans took advantage of the development of sea travel to flock to the island.
Fascinated by the lifestyle of the beach boys who taught them how to surf on the island, the Aloha Shirt became the souvenir to bring back from their Hawaiian holiday. In the United States, wearing an Aloha Shirt became a sign of wealth, but also of self-confidence and open-mindedness, as this piece went against the codes of masculinity at the time.
Worn by Elvis in 1961 on the cover of his album "Blue Hawai", the Aloha became a piece used to define free and independent characters. Tony Montana in Scarface, Romeo in Romeo+Juliet and Tyler Durden in Fight Club, all of these characters have the self-confidence to wear what they want. Their virility and courage are proven by their actions. Very colourful and close to the feminine dresses of the time, this light piece does not question their status.
In the United States, however, the Aloha Shirt has become a symbol of the extreme right. Linked to the "Bungaloo" movement, it is used as a rallying symbol on the basis of a racist private joke that originated on 4chan. For this reason, the original Aloha Shirt shape is partly shunned by brands. Wacko Maria, Soulland or Fuct rely on the spirit of the Aloha Shirt to develop prints that they use on Bowling Shirts. Its unstructured and more open collar makes it easier to wear.

A Wikizilla short on Godzilla Minus One's Oscar nomination, written and narrated by me and edited by @squid-in-a-party-hat. Turns out this site can't embed YouTube Shorts properly, who knew? Anyways, here's all the kaiju Oscars trivia I wrote for the comments:
King Kong has been much more successful at the Academy Awards than Godzilla. They didn’t have a prize for special effects back in 1933, but the King Kong remakes in 1976 and 2005 both prevailed in that category, while Kong: Skull Island was nominated. ‘76 also received nominations for cinematography and sound, and ‘05 won in sound mixing and sound editing.
During the opening of the 80th Academy Awards (2008), Peter Jackson’s King Kong delivered a flying kick to the TriStar Godzilla’s face.
Brad Pitt revealed that The War of the Gargantuas was the film that made him want to become an actor at the 84th Academy Awards (2012).
Japan has its own Academy Awards, which Shin Godzilla dominated in 2017. Godzilla Minus One may fare even better, having picked up 12 nominations to Shin's 10. Godzilla as an awards darling, who would’ve thought?
The 90th Academy Awards (2018) paid tribute to original Godzilla suit actor Haruo Nakajima in its In Memorium section.
Juliette Binoche (Sandra Brody in Godzilla [2014]) is the only Oscar-winning actor to appear in a Godzilla film. Other Oscar-winning or Oscar-nominated actors with kaiju connections include Nick Adams, Demián Bichir, Jeff Bridges, Adrien Brody, Bryan Cranston, Brian Donlevy, Vera Farmiga, Robert Forster, Naomie Harris, Anne Hathaway, Sally Hawkins, Brian Tyree Henry, Samuel L. Jackson, Richard Jenkins, Rinko Kikuchi, Jessica Lange, Brie Larson, John C. Reilly, David Strathairn, Russ Tamblyn, Ken Watanabe, and Naomie Watts.

NOTE: If you like a different treasure hunter from a franchise listed above, vote “someone not listed here”. For example, if you prefer Chloe Frazer over Nate.
NOTE 2: Whoops, misspelled Flynn CarSEN. That’s my bad.

It’s been three weeks and I still have not sorted my feelings about Legends Con. So have this random, unorganized list of things that happened that I still remember (more under the cut):
Nick tried to flash (stood on a chair and pulled up his shirt) Tala and Maisie during their panel but no one noticed him in the back
On the other hand when Arthur showed up during Caity and Jes’ panel they immediately saw him and greeted him
Caity was asked what Sara’s safe word is at the Meet&Greet and her answer was “Chiquita Banana”
When asked who they would eat first on a deserted island, pretty much everyone immediately said “Dom”
Caity and Jes kept talking about doing a podcast and asking people for stuff to talk about. Jes suggested they should just do Stabcast but Caity said she doesn’t like True Crime (which fair, I don’t either lol)
Adam said Avalance’s kid is named Rose and that Gary would be a great babysitter but he definitely would lose her at some point
At the opening ceremony Caity was like “I think the last time I said I was getting married. And I did it. *shows her ring* And Jes had our baby!”
When talking about the hardest goodbyes, Caity being Caity forgot Dom left and wasn’t even in the final season. Her answer was Franz btw.
A kid asked Amy, Caity and Jes if they would rather jump in lava or drown in water if they had to die and Jes was like “How old are you? Where is your mother?!” lmao
Jes recited the condolence card from Meet The Legends to the best of her recollection and kept laughing
Arthur kept mentioning how weird it is that all these fans and the cast are in his hometown
I could listen to Maisie talk for hours, just wanted to throw that in here
Jes was talking about how beautiful the gold dress from 502 was and Caity replied with “Anything you wear is beautiful 🥰” before Amy chimed in that she is still looking for the video of Liv and Jes laughing at Matt falling off his chair that was mentioned earlier lol
When asked about a crack ship (Rishop = Rip/Bishop) Arthur went on to talk about how he loves fanfiction lol
When asked if Nick or Matt is the better kisser Tala said “Maisie”
Adam started singing I Will Always Love You (forgot why) and Maisie left him hanging by not joining in and just smiling/laughing
Poor Matt didn’t know about the Human Centipede but now he does
Jes came up with the pick up line “I can be your legend until tomorrow” and then was like “someone try this tonight at the bar!”
On the second day Adam brought a water pistol to the panel and used it on everyone who got up to ask a question
Adam was THE hype man all weekend. He kept starting “When I say DC you say Legends of Tomorrow” chants
The fandom organized a group gift to give each cast member a trophy of the Waverider. We were allowed to present it to them at the closing ceremony.
Nick was called “Brad Pitt” during the trophy ceremony and Adam being Adam stood up instead
Amy sang Future Favorite with one of the kids at the closing ceremony
Adam said something about how he doesn’t like being emotional in front of people and everyone started chanting “SHOW EMOTIONS”
By the end of the closing ceremony everyone was super emotional. Caity was too emotional to speak when it was her turn and started crying and Jes hugged her. She said “I miss you guys” to the cast and went back for another hug. Jes was like “stop the emotions. stop the emotions” in reference to the earlier chant
A small list of some of the things that happened to me personally. I won’t share it all in detail here though, for reasons:
When I got my solo photo op with Caity, she saw my Real Housewives Sara shirt and was like “That’s funny. Can I take a picture?” and then she posted it on her IG Story
Amy spoke German to me out of nowhere when she noticed my accent. She also called me back during our photo op to ask me how I was and if I slept alright.
Jes gave me this 🥺 look when I talked to her at the autograph table
Nick held my hand for like a minute which was super overwhelming especially cause I struggle with eye contact lol. He also kept lovingly teasing me the whole weekend.
Me and a bunch of people did the 709 costumes as cosplay and won ‘Best Group’. It was a lot of fun.

The Tides’ Captain
sad implied lucemond:(
IMPORTANT NOTE: THIS FIC INCLUDES TEEN PREGNANCY!!!! LUKE IS 15 AT THE START OF THIS FIC, SO VERY UNDERAGE!!!! DNI IF YOU ARE SENSITIVE TO THIS TOPIC!!!!
a/n: Luke has a son out of wedlock (it’s definitely Aemond’s), and is thus shamed and exiled by his family (with great hesitation and protest from Rhaenyra and Corlys’ side of the family, but is celebrated by the Greens)
Also, how Luke got pregnant will be up to interpretation (I personally say there’s no explanation for it, it just happened and is a complete surprise to everyone involved, which would bring potentially unhinged shenanigans and that thought is hilarious to me)
•._•._•._•._•._•
It had been six months.
Six months since Luke was found to be with child.
Six months since Luke was found out to have been bedded before marriage.
Six months since Luke had been put in front of the court and shamed.
Six months since Luke had been exiled from Westeros.
It had been six months since he’s bedded him.
The damn bastard didn’t even own up to it! But what should he have expected, with his reputation as a mutilator of kin and a bastard spawn. Tis only fair a bastard birth a bastard - at least, in the eyes of the court, and to the one he gave his maidenhood to.
The brunette even had to abandon Arrax, and was given no dragon egg to gift to his child. Something he knows the Hightowers and their allies celebrated.
Luke had sailed across the sea after hitching a ride with sailors who took pity on the poor lad. They did whatever they could to help accommodate him; fed him, sheltered him, told him stories and taught him song and dance and fishing. And in return, the exiled prince helped in whatever chores he was able.
He grew to care and love his sailor family, and they saw him as one of their own. They had even given him a new name - Prim Carlisle of the Tidefall Ship, Pearl of its crew. Luke’s little one was even given options for names by his found family; Pitt, Ervin, Arwen, Mittie, Eula, Matildah… He was leaning into naming the child either Tidus for a boy, or Joanna for a girl.
The crew had even given him his own weapon, in case he ever needed to fight alongside them - though they promise he needn’t have to, as they’d never let a pregnant fellow do heavy work, and they’ll do whatever it takes to make sure he never has to see, hear or commit any violent act. When Prim saw the dagger, he knew immediately what to name the silver blade melded into a dark hilt with small gems molded onto it - Tidal. His family laughed and teased him for such a corny name, but he stuck by it.
Before he knew it, six months had passed by, then seven, then eight and finally, he was in his last month of pregnancy. And before he knew it, he met his son; Tidus. His hair was of his mother, brown curls that framed his chubby and red face, but his eyes - they were purple.
Got something from his father, hm?
The bitter thought flew in his mind, as he smiled bitterly at his sleeping son. His birth wasn’t easy - it took Prim two days to get him out, and he had to be moved from the ship to land for proper care and assistance, as the sea is no place for anyone to give birth in. The trek to land helped in positioning Tidus correctly, so the last few moments of his birth was a success. And most importantly, Luke…Prim didn’t have to be cut open.
For a solid three months, Prim and his crew stayed on the island to rest from the chaos of birth, and the celebration of a new member of their family. After their rest, they set out yet again, this time, with even more cherished cargo with them - a child and a few girls of the island willing to come aboard and travel with Prim’s family, to help with medicine, organizing and with basic household - shiphold- chores.
Once again, Prim’s family was expanding. A few years evidently pass by, and Tidus was now three, while Prim was now eighteen. It has been three years since he last step foot on Westerosi grounds, since he had last sailed Westerosi waters, since he had last flown on Arrax in Westerosi skies. Prim was a far better sailor than he was three years prior - he was no longer seasick on deck, he knew the ropes, knew how to navigate the seas, knew how to chart and read the weather, knew how to use the stars in his predictions, and he knew how to sail and fish and hunt and lead.
When the captain of the Tidefall Ship fell to a sickness one day while they anchored on a small island, he named Prim the next captain once he hit the bucket. And when he did, his last will and command was effective immediately.
At first, Prim didn’t know if he had the ability to become captain, but with his crew’s help and his son’s encouragement, he became a feared and respected leader of a band of skilled, resourceful and “no-good” sailors under the moniker Prim Carlisle, “The Mermaid”.
It was only another three years later, when Prim and Tidus freshly turned twenty one and six respectively, did Prim decide to finally settle down somewhere cozy and quiet, where it would only be Prim and Little Tidus. When he dropped the news to his crew, they immediately went into hysterics, and immediately said they’ll settle down with him as well - though, with some prodding from Prim, they continued on their voyages, with Prim’s second in command as the new captain.
After a few weeks at sea, mapping out potential places of note good for a single parent and their child, Prim settled on a valley surrounded by wildlife and mountains and cliffs, with a meadow in the middle full of flowers with space large enough for a farm, cabin and animals.
The crew promised to come visit with gifts and trinkets and anything the father-son duo could need, and Prim held them to the promise.
Prim and Tidus lived in relative peace together in their little corner of personalized heaven. They had a cabin full of comfortable crafts by Prim and Tidus, alongside being decorated with presents from their family. They had a farm with two cows, five chickens and three sheep. They had growing crops of all kinds, as they were given many seeds by their crew to start out with. Not only that, but the girls had even given and taught him how to make the most of what little one might have during the weeks leading up to his and Tidus’ settlement.
Life was perfect for the father-son duo.
Until it wasn’t.
It wasn’t long until they hear rumors from travelers about a war brewing in Westeros, a war between family - a dance of dragons. Each side had been looking for dragon seeds to hatch and claim dragons for their side, and their reach had far extended past even the Free Cities. Prim knew better than to get involved - especially with his former family, so he made precautions to barricade both the obvious and inobvious entrances to his valley, and hid him and his child away from the skies. Only his crew knew their whereabouts, and how to get in and out.
However, these measures weren’t enough to keep him safe from someone who was desperate to get him back despite the years, and despite the fact that he never owned up to his part as Tidus’ father.
Above Prim, during a night of chill and snow, as a white and thick blanket of white coats the lands, he hears a roar that brings shivers down his spine. Clutching his crying son to his chest, who was scared for him and his mother in front of the green beast above them, in one hand while on the other, he holds his dagger - Tidal, Prim looks up and gazed past the hulking mass of flesh and scales -
And makes eye contact with a desperate, relieved and grieving violet eye.

Sequel to This Post: How Far Are the Fallout DLC Maps from the Main Game?
I linked them to each game’s main metropolitan area, not the specific launching-off point for the DLC, sorry. Travel times are for the 21st century and don’t reflect resting, carrying equipment, or stopping to fight giant bugs every half-hour. They also don’t reflect that it’s the apocalypse and you can walk on a national highway if you feel like it.
Tumblr media
Here’s The Pitt, which I haven’t played yet, sorry
Tumblr media
This is Point Lookout, though it’s important to note that in-game you get there via the river and it takes a month? For some reason?
Anchorage is a simulation, Broken Steel uses the original game map, and Mothership Zeta is… in space.
We know next to nothing about the Sierra Madre and I can’t really approximate where it is. I couldn’t find the in-game travel time to get back to the Mojave.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zion Valley, by foot but also by car since it gives you a weird walking route. In-game, it’s a two-week hike.
Tumblr media
A rough approximation of the location of Big Mountain. It could be anywhere in Death Valley; all we know is that it’s south of the Divide. In-game, of course, you teleport there and back, so you likely won’t need this info.
Tumblr media
The Divide. In-game, the journey is three hours.
Tumblr media
The Island. In-game, you get there by boat, and as far as I can tell it takes about an hour.
We don’t know anything about Nuka-World’s real location except that it’s in Massachusetts. Assuming the train is running, you probably don’t need real travel times, but if you do, you can make something up.
