a great way to combat genAI in the future would be educating kids (and teens and college students and all ppl) on art way more.
#i had art classes growing up but i know a lot of ppl didn't and even less kids get art classes nowadays#we need all kinds of art classes too! music and history and painting and woodshop and drawing and life drawing#i think art history is especially important bc it connects us to our past and shows why art is so important#and all kinds of art classes help kids develop different important skills#like fine motor skills and critical thinking and making choices and noticing details and how to really SEE things rather than just looking#and a lot of art skills like woodworking and ceramics and sewing are all very practical basic adult skills that we should all get to learn#there's reasons arts and crafts and other skill based electives are the first to go and its not just bc they're undervalued#its cause a population that feels capable and confident and skilled and knows how to think critically#is harder to make work shitty jobs for shitty pay#harder to control!#same reason they're banning so many books and trying to make education worse#damn maybe i should learn how to teach better#im already planning to at least try doing a workshop for adults but maybe if i end up liking that#i could work towards being able to teach kids#i feel like teaching kids would be harder cause idk what concepts they do or dont know at whatever age they are#id have to do research and maybe talk to someone who has experience teaching art to kids#but even a simple art class would be beneficial i think#like going outside to draw things in nature maybe#or portrait drawing#or a class on how to make comics or animate on paper to impress their friends lol#i would've loved that!#id have to do that with the help of another teacher maybe#idk#vague future plans#anyway the reason education would help combat ai is cause ppl would learn abt what goes onto making art#all the choices and skills and thought#and they'd be able to more easily see the difference btwn real art and ai images and understand why making art is important

Re: cousin and myself going into Art Business together

We already have. SO many (mostly hers) friends and fam pre-ordering projects and murals and we barely even have all the supplies we need yet!!! Some diy decor, some paintings, a few bedroom/playroom walls!!! âźď¸
It's!!! Really fuckin cool!!! And she showed her dad my (personal, semi-private) portfolio and he LOVED a few pieces SO much he insisted she send em to him to take home to show his wife. (âźď¸âźď¸âźď¸)
And this is the cool uncle that actually happily rescued some of my old framed high school art for me from the clutches of my mom's evil brother's rented dumpster when that motherfucker tossed multigenerational heirlooms and albums alike!! So he was VERY excited to see how far I've progressed in two decades lol
ANYWAYS We have SO much work to do this summer building a professional joint portfolio of various works but we not only have plenty of our own walls/canvases we ALSO have several people lining up already and excited about our work đĽš
#i get to be a PAINTER again!!! other ppl are gonna pay for the materials!!!!#its just a really exciting time#when its good its good đ#i really REALLY missed this. it was my passion it was my soul#â¨painting⨠and â¨getting messy⨠and â¨sharing art with others as an Experience and not Consumptionâ¨#murals and kids bday parties and adult bachelorette parties and drop-in classes BUT ALSO#painting whatever the fuck i wanted!!! whenever the hell i wanted to!!!!!!!#something quick and sloppy and generic! something finely detailed and embellished!!#clay and plaster and wood and acrylic and canvas and watercolor and ink!!!! my loves my dears my eternal flames#no fiddling with 34 different individual settings to sorta-mimic the effect i can get in .02 seconds with a specific paintbrush!!!#gnawing gnashing growling biting i am about to be a whole different person (happy and fulfilled)

Bro did you seriously not show up on time to class on the day we were gonna discuss John Donne's "A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning" and "A Nocturnal Upon St. Lucy's Day, Being the Shortest Day"
#only like six ppl showed up on time and several ppl walked in super late. one guy more than a half hour#that guy i hadn't seen in class for like a month. i dont understand#i have to be honest i am one of those ppl that can't wrap my head around being habitually late or skipping class#i know ppl have situations but like how is it not a priority#you're spending so much money to be here. and you're ok w missing the first 10 minutes of the lecture?#i know im a goody two shoes and a rule follower i know i know#i know ppl have difficult situations and i dont pretend to know who has an obstacle and who is just apathetic#but like u do see apathy all the time in colleges. and it's like. i dont understand#no one is making u go to college or be a fulltime student. or no one SHOULD be making u#u r an adult. commit to something#text post#that sounds very judgmental of me sorry#i suppose i have this perspective as a nontraditional student that if you aren't giving it your all then what's the point#i hold this standard for myself even in classes where i don't discuss metaphysical poetry btw#john donne#how could you not come on time hes so fun 2 talk about#ive been noticing other ppl chipping in to the discussions of his poems and im like đđđ#im like proud. almost. bc he's my boy and he's so interested#i get why ppl act like they don't care about sir walter ralegh or thomas wyatt#i get why if u don't read poetry or understand their time period theyd bore u to death#but donne is just one of the most fascinating minds to ever wield the weapon of language#to paint on the canvas of english poetry#he can spark anyone's inspiration i think

When I was a TA for the freshman art class in senior year my students really adored me. It was so sweet. Iâd had classes that were more ambivalent toward me but these guys were all about me.
I loved working with that teacher too. He was the kind of crunchy art nerd whose own kid didnât know what candy was, who loved bird watching and wearing tweed. Weâd chat while they worked and it was just a three hour pleasure rather than work.
When the class switched from charcoal to gouache a devil medium, the evilest watercolor, the students struggled. Weâd have in class painting where theyâd spend the whole time trying to mix one color instead of just accepting something as good enough and trying to practice other skills.
So one day I showed up to my shift and announced, âI have stickers. If you get color down for the whole composition, you get a sticker.â
They wanted. The stickers. So bad. Students who had agonized before about keeping lines neat and perfect plowed ahead. The first student to call me over I tsked at. âPutting grey on everything doesnât count,â I chided, âI asked for colors on each object.â
The classroom worked in furious joy, young adults who had seen my bird and cactus stickers and gone feral. The teacher was flabbergasted. âWhy do they want stickers? They could just buy stickersâŚâ
I held up my water bottle and showed him a tiny 3D bubble sticker the program director had brought to my game teams space last week. âYou never grow out of wanting to earn a sticker.â
By the end of class everyone had a sticker. There was more visible improvement in the work too, which surprised them since theyâd been rushing. âGouache looks terrible before it looks good. Itâs okay to start messy and then refine.â The teacher had said the same thing but looking at their frantic sticker paintings they finally saw the truth of it.

How an Adult Oil Painting Class Works as a Stress-Buster?

Stress and anxiety have become very common in adults these days. From responsibilities balancing to personal commitments management, the pressure can feel overwhelming. Thatâs why finding activities that promote relaxation and mental well-being is essential. One such activity that stands out is an adult oil painting class. Whether youâre a beginner or an experienced artist, painting offers a great escape that can significantly improve your mental health. If youâre in Brisbane and looking for ways to unwind creatively, attending painting classes in Brisbane is an excellent option. Find out how it works as a stress-buster from here.
Promotes Relaxation
Painting is more than just applying brushstrokes to a canvasâitâs an immersive experience that allows you to focus entirely on the present moment. This mindfulness aspect is effective in reducing stress levels.
When you attend an adult oil painting class, this environment helps channel your energy into creating art. As you mix colours, choose brush techniques, and work on your masterpiece, your mind naturally shifts away from worries and distractions. Painting encourages you to live in the moment, calming your racing thoughts. The repetitive motion of brushwork can soothe tension and promote a meditative state.
A Creative Expression
Lifeâs challenges can often leave us bottling up emotions, leading to frustration and anxiety. Painting provides a safe and creative outlet to express feelings that might be hard to articulate. Through an adult oil painting class, you can channel your emotions into artâwhether itâs using bold colours to express joy or soft strokes to convey peace. The process itself is cathartic and helps release pent-up emotions. Such activities promote emotional release and healing.
Boosted Creativity
Stress often stems from feeling stuck or unable to find solutions to problems. Engaging in artistic activities like oil painting stimulates the brainâs creative centers, enhancing your ability to think outside the box. During a painting class in Brisbane session, youâll learn to experiment with colours, textures, and techniques, pushing your creative boundaries. This newfound ability to approach challenges from different perspectives can extend to other areas of your life.
Social Connection and Support
While painting can be a solitary activity, attending a class offers a valuable opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals. Many participants in an adult oil painting class share similar goalsârelaxation, learning, and personal growthâwhich creates a supportive and encouraging environment. It encourages collaboration and idea-sharing and also reduces feelings of isolation, particularly for adults seeking new social connections.
Mental Flexibility
The act of painting teaches patience and persistence. Whether youâre blending the perfect shade or adding fine details, oil painting requires focus and determination. These qualities can translate into real-life situations, helping you build mental flexibility to cope with stress and challenges more effectively.
Itâs Fun and Rewarding
At its core, painting is an enjoyable activity that brings joy and satisfaction. Completing an artworkâno matter your skill levelâgives you a sense of pride and accomplishment. Participating in painting classes in Brisbane adds structure and guidance to this process, making it even more rewarding.
The best part? You donât need to create a masterpiece. The simple act of engaging with the canvas, colours, and tools is enough to uplift your spirits and make you feel accomplished.
Discover the Joy of Painting with Queensland Art School
