what becomes of every kirby character long after the series concludes

kirby - continues being an altruistic heroic drifter. married to both prince fluff and ribbon and wears the wedding rings on his horns. visits her friends often. basically nothing concrete really changes in their lifestyle aside from becoming older and wiser and more experienced

king dedede: passes down kingship of dream land to bandana waddle dee and retires to traveling the universe with his friend to enjoy delicious food and fun fights as merely "dedede"

meta knight: passes down his mask, identity, and galaxia to their chosen successor, and travels the universe with his friend to enjoy delicious food and fun fights under the name "galacta"

bandana dee: after growing significantly as a leader and warrior, king dedede names him as his successor, and bandee becomes the new king of dream land

gooey: much like kirby, nothing solidly changes for gooey. he gets older and wiser, but he still basically just chills out on dream land and hangs out with his friends and enjoys a peaceful idyllic lifestyle

dl2 animal friends: rick inherits his family farm and marries pick, everyone else kinda just continues with their lives because they were already adults with lives they were living to begin with

marx: dies in a bovine insemination factory explosion at age 19

adeleine: returns to her homeworld and becomes a famous artist

ribbon: rises up the ranks to become the captain of the ripple star royal guard. marries kirby and prince fluff and is considered princess-consort of patch land. gets a really cool gun

dmk: after a long time he finally starts to healthily move on from dark mind's death in amazing mirror and makes friends and becomes shadow dedede's partner but aside from that he largely keeps his existing lifestyle of chilling in his ruins home unless called out

parallel susie: follows in her father's footsteps of becoming a celebrated inventor and enjoys making weird science with her friend magolor. becomes partners with flamberge and a frequent patron of her restaurant

dark taranza: pranks people with nia. just like his old man 8')

shadow dedede: retires from his role as the king of the mirror world to tutor its new king, shadow kirby

shadow kirby: becomes the primary protector of the mirror world. unlike kirby, shadow kirby is not as much of an adventurer and wishes to protect and rule over the mirror world, and shadow dedede mentors him

daroach: continues being a phantom thief well into his middle age. gets a little greyer and a little heavier. what he didn't expect was that middle-adged playboy phantom thieves are in hot hot demand and now has a fanbase of people who want him so so so bad. it is absolutely nothing like he was used to as a young man in the main series

magolor: continues making theme parks, goofing off with his friends, and making weird science with parallel susie

taranza: has taken a step down from ruling floralia in sectonia's absence to train her successor. he lowkey wants to retire already

susie: has long decided that popstar is her home and has largely mellowed out enough that she no longer wants to take over the world and is content to just kind of be popstar's resident tech-themed wizard. marries a nun

francisca/frankiss: fumbles every woman in popstar looking for a girlfriend and tries to forcefem everyone else with varying degrees of success but always ends up rejected in the end anyways

flamberge: opens a really really good barbecue place on hotbeat. becomes partners with patrya.

zan partizanne: struggles with finding purpose after realizing she doesn't want to become like hyness or become the next head priest of the jamba religion. she marries susie and wanders around popstar in search of something that will bring her peace

astral: bested the greatest warrior in the galaxy and earned the mask, sword, identity, and blessing of meta knight and now leads the new generation of meta-knights

elfilin: hes spongebob now

Kirby and the Amazing Mirror is a pretty interesting game especially for a mainline title

It contains some cool characters that originate from that game such as Big Waddle Dee, Moley, Dark Meta Knight and Capcom’s Nightmare -

What the fuck are you Dark Mind? I’m sick of it

There is two things that really intrigues me with this series, thing number one:

Fuck you Dark Mind!

(A small essay/analysis/theory(?) about a very mysterious villian in the Kirby series, under the cut!)

Okay, I think Dark Mind is the most Nothing Burger mainline Kirby villian ever, if not in the entire series

Almost nothing is known about him ingame besides “He is evil and wants to take over the Mirror World”

And yeah, he is referenced by Void Termina in one of their attacks which might mean something but like, almost every boss is so he is not special

I will argue that Nightmare and Dark Nebula (two similar final bosses with little to no info on them) are more talked about, the former because of the anime (without it, he won’t really be that popular me thinks) and the latter because ‘Lord of the Underworld’ title (despite being a localization thing) and his possible connection to the Sparkling Star among other reasons

Not saying nobody cares for him at all, he just have less attention then all of the other mainline villians because the lack of depth and info he has compare to the others

Now, a theory that I have seen thrown around is that Dark Mind is the Mirror World counterpart of either Nightmare or Zero. or even a combination of both counterparts, and yeah, I can see it especially since he have aspects of both of them

However

As shown in this official tweet by the Kirby Twitter account, it heavily implies that Magolor doesn’t have a mirror counterpart because nothing is shown while looking at the dimensional mirror

This tells me that not everyone has a Mirror World self and if Magolor doesn’t have one, I seriously doubt both Nightmare and Zero would have one as well

I still do think that Dark Mind is atleast somewhat connected to Dark Matter, even if it’s just the substance and not the actual species (if that makes sense)

His name brings the phrase “Mind over Matter” to mind (heh, mind) which means this:

So my epic game theory is that maybe he is like, a advanced version of Dark Matter that gained perception or something???? I think that would be cool

Or maybe he is just his own thing exclusive to the Mirror World, since some Mirror Worlders (like Dark Meta Knight) reflects the darkness their Popstar counterpart, maybe Dark Mind was formed by the leftover darkness from the hearts of many? That may be true but it is still very vague compare to other bosses lore

There is the possibility that he corrupted Queen Sectonia because of the whole mirror thing, it’s way more likely then DMK doing it, that’s for sure

Oh, let’s now talk about something that is also l related to Dark Mind, sorta!

This is King D-Mind from the Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, a king of darkness who is summoned through the Black Mirror by Dark Taranza but he proceeded to shatter the dumb spider

After clashing with Team Kirby, they managed to trap him back the mirror and shatter it, saving the Dream Kingdom

He also had a role in Super Kirby Clash but idgaf

I found some interesting stuff like with Taranza using the Black Mirror so much that the balance of worlds breaks and lots of Parallel versions are born alongside Taranza’s dark counterpart

And King D-Mind being born from Dark Taranza’s evil mind who he considers to be the most strongest and savage warrior

Let’s take a look at the Black Mirror itself actually, it bears a striking resemblance to Dark Mind himself, perhaps it was created with him in mind or his origin place because remember, even before Dark Taranza summoned him, King D-Mind was manipulating regular Taranza through this mirror to summon rampaging monsters

Of course, the Kirby Clash games take place in a alternate universe but I always saw the Mirror World as can be visited/connected to all these universes as long if they have a variant of the Dimensional Mirror

Oh, and also it’s probably not important but his internal file name is “MaskedBlackDedede” Black Dedede being Shadow Dedede name In Japanese, but there is not enough evidence (if at all) to suggest Shadow Dedede and D-Mind are the same

In fact, this might not even BE the same Dark Mind from the Amazing Mirror

So like, can multiple D-Minds exist as long as if people has evil minds? What’s up with the skull mask and flaming eyeballs? Did Dark Taranza considered both Shadow Dedede and Dark Mind as extremely savage it created King D-Mind?

Who knows?

So in conclusion, idk, maybe Dark Mind isn’t meant to be that deep,he was just a villian that needed to be overcomed and that’s it

Thinking about Bandee-Taranza-Susie character parallels again. Time to be annoying ig.

I've already talked about Taranza and Bandee a bit here, and we're all aware of the Taranza-Susie parallels, but it's only recently that I started to think about Bandee and Susie and how they feel towards eachother and interact . . . especially Bandee. I think they might also be called parallels, but more lightly and not level with how Bandee and Taranza might be parallels, or Taranza and Susie.

I think Bandee feels more positively towards Taranza than Susie, for a couple reasons. While Taranza did kidnap his dad and(more indirectly) cause a giant stalk to grow in the middle of Dreamland, not only was he obviously apologetic after the fact- he was open about how Sectonia used to be and his motives.

Not only was Susie quiet about Haltmann being her dad for a good while after Planet Robobot, but she was VERY condesending towards Popstarians and . . . well, y'know. The way she treated and talked about the place HE GREW UP in really rubbed Bandee the wrong way, and Mecha Knight did nothing to help matters. Just the depersonification and painful similarities to some of Dedede's experiences. So there's still a lot of lingering resentment from that, even though she's trying to do better now.

Susie meanwhile . . . isn't sure what to think of Bandee. Kirby and Dedede seem to have gotten over the whole thing fairly easily, and while Meta Knight has tried to keep it's-HIS- distance, he's been at least cordial to her. But this . . . child seems uniquely resentful, and yet doesn't treat Taranza with any of the same dislike- despite the fact that they did some of the things? What gives? She doesn't get it, but if she just shows how much she's changing and the good she's doing, he'll come around eventually! That's how it works, right?

woahhh it’s an idol au !!!!!

after a falling out with hyness, the three mage sisters (who aren’t actually mages here lol) went out on their own! they’re not very used to being around other people but they’re trying to get by! it’s tough but they’ve got it!!!

only zan keeps running into this one person: magolor, who insists on recruiting her to be an idol, of all things

she is definitely put off at first—idols are ridiculous! frivolous! shameless!—but once she learns more…and more importantly, is promised a lot of money…well, what has she got left to lose?

zan is the group center and magolor is the manager…magolor also definitely does not have any of the money he is promising, as he is very close to being fired from *squints* dedede’s talent agency. yeah that’s a thing now. magolor has kinda just failed again and again to get anywhere with his ideas, and so he puts all he has into this group

…okay maybe this is more of an entertainment au because i threw in Literally Every Other Character. for example, yeah, dedede, who is obviously as professional as you’d expect (sarcasm.)

the agency itself is uhhh not doing great because dedede doesn’t know what he’s doing (did you think he would? self proclaimed king, everyone /lh) but he is very enthusiastic, at least, and good with people

there’s also professional fight choreographer meta knight and the kid he swears isn’t his (it is. he’s adopted) said kid listens to a lot of music and even becomes a fan of the mages <3

meta is the only one here to actually have a reason to wear sunglasses other than in an attempt to look cool lmao.

susie, in charge of marketing, who has her own dad problems that would definitely parallel the mages’. she totally isn’t jealous of them and their bond and that they get to be idols (also sarcasm)

yeah she’s gonna join later lol

there’s also the superstar solo idol, (stage name) sectonia

she takes her work very seriously and really plays up the whole parasocial relationship aspect of being an idol, meeting fans and putting on an act for the cameras. she is very charismatic but kiiiind of self centered, and her desire to be adored often gets the better of her

since there’s not really magic in this au, she never had the chance to turn evil, but that longing for love and approval is still there

she’s kind of the mages’ rival because she embodies so much of what zan hates about idols (but maybe they’re more alike than they think…?)

Y’know… I was thinking about the “previously nice people who fucked around, found out, went various degrees of insane, and started being not so nice to their once beloved underlings, who still refused to give up on them” quartet last night (as per usual) and I came to an interesting realization.

I’ve…. Always portrayed Sectonia and Leon specifically as parallels, then Haltmann and Hyness specifically as parallels because of the type of relationship they once had with their underlings, but giving it some further thought…

Once you toss out the father & daughter(s) element, and the ruler & loyal servant element for a moment……..

It’s. Actually kind of Sectonia and Hyness, and Haltmann and Leon who have more similarities in some ways?

Sectonia and Hyness:

-Were seemingly actively cruel, if not outright abusive to their beguiled underlings

-Went mad because of something presumably related to Dark Matter in a game themed around magic

-Didn’t really have a single puppetmaster pulling the strings. They were more corrupted by conceptual forces seemingly than individual people

In contrast, Haltmann and Leon:

-Uh….. weren’t actually that mean to their underlings? At least not in comparison. The worst thing we saw Haltmann do was tell Susie to stand down, then we didn’t see Leon interact with Carol or the others at all. Their damage to their underlings was more a form of emotional neglect than outright mistreatment

-Went mad because of something seemingly related to Dream magic in a game themed around tech

-Had specific individuals pulling the strings behind their descent into cruelty— Star Dream in Haltmann’s case, Forgo in Leon’s

Although thinking about it even further this morning, I did realize one way Sectonia and Leon, and Haltmann and Hyness are similar to one another specifically other than the type of relationship they once had with their mistreated underlings:

Their relationship with their madness.

Recently, my cool mutual @/fecto-forgo made a post about how it seems, to a certain extent, Hyness was aware he was descending into madness, but instead of accepting a peaceful life with his daughters, he continued to seek revenge anyways. And I agree with that assessment! There’s a Star Allies pause screen featuring dialogue from him where he apologizes for forgetting Zan’s name, then starts to reflect on how it seems his “heart is going crazy,” before shaking the thought. This, to me, implies a certain awareness of him losing his grip on reality.

Similarly, it’s implied Haltmann knew he was losing himself. In a pause screen of his, he describes “not even knowing why he reactivated that terrible machine,” before remembering it was all a desperate attempt to see Susanna again.

Meanwhile, I get the impression… Sectonia and Leon had little to no idea they were losing it? Leon seems to think his plan is his own and that Fecto Forgo is just an asset he’s willingly serving for his own benefit. And while in the Soul of Sectonia fight pause screen Sectonia begs for death, there’s no implication she understood what was happening to her as it was happening. Instead, she was consumed by egomania.

I… do think it’s interesting the way their motives contrast each other, too. It’s most obvious with Haltmann and Hyness, who take a different approach when it comes to the importance of their children. Hyness quite literally allows himself to lose it even knowing it may hurt his daughters, whereas Haltmann loses it in an attempt just to see his daughter again.

It’s… less obvious with Sectonia and Leon, but I do think there’s something interesting to be said about the way Leon’s goal seems to be for all of the Beast Pack to thrive in the new world whereas Sectonia, obviously, is only concerned with herself, rather than her people. There’s an element of selflessness vs selfishness there, too.

I’m not quite sure what to actually DO with any of this analysis, but it’s at least an interesting thought to chew on when it comes to setting the four of them, as well as the people they’ve hurt, up as parallels.

It potentially gives their underlings the ability to empathize with each other in different ways, and I think that’s Neat. Susie and the Mage Sisters can bond over their fathers going mad, while Taranza and The Mage Sisters can bond over getting thrown under the bus, and so on and so on! Lots of interesting angles to explore there.

Are the "deaths" of older Kirby characters unserious?

For all the Kirby characters that are believed to have "died", I wonder if the ones in earlier periods of the series are not actually seriously dead.

The newer, Kumazaki era Kirby characters that have died are much more legitimate. Sectonia is absolutely 100% dead without a doubt. Same for Max Haltmann and Star Dream, as well as Void Termina. I also believe Fecto Elfilis to be dead, since the Forgo half is gone and Chaos Elfilis absorbed into Elfilin. I'm sure that Elfilin will be all that's left of Fecto Elfilis, meaning the original unsplit creature is a goner.

But what about the pre-Kumazaki Kirby characters that are believed to have "died"? It appears they're much less certain. It's ambiguous.

Marx looks like he died at the end of Milky Way Wishes. That impact onto Nova absolutely looks more than enough to kill Marx. How could he have survived that? He also doesn't appear for a very long time after Super Star and its remake. He's been absent in a lot of Kirby games, which can also lead to the belief that he died after MWW.

Although he does appear in Mass Attack... but I have doubts on its canonicity.

... And then he comes back in Star Allies! Seemingly out of nowhere. It's kind of funny that the lore never explains how the hell Marx survived his encounter with Kirby and just randomly comes back, now deciding he wants to team up with Kirby to stop Void Termina.

I get the sense that HAL didn't really think much of Marx's "death" like they thought of Sectonia's death. Marx came from an era where lore wasn't really a thing, so it's harder to take his death seriously.

It's still funny to think how the hell he survived the Nova impact, though. I guess he was just really durable? And I mean, Kirby does survive big impacts, such as Star Dream's explosion after destroying it, so I guess if Kirby could survive them, Marx probably could as well.

I can, of course, bring up my headcanon that Marx was barely durable enough to survive the Nova impact, but he was gravely injured. The only reason he survived is because Magolor and the Lor Starcutter showed up at the right time to save him.

Also, didn't it look like that Dark Meta Knight died at the end of Amazing Mirror when the mirror got shattered? It kinda did. But just like Marx, he also comes back out of nowhere for Star Allies with no explanation as to how he survived and got to the point of helping out.

I'm aware he also appears in Triple Deluxe's Dededetour, but I've always been incredibly loose about considering side modes as canon. Or I guess it's extra proof that older character "deaths" are unserious.

What does this mean for other pre-Kumazaki Kirby characters that may have "died"? Such as Nightmare, the many leaders of Dark Matter (Blade, Zero, Zero-Two) and Drawcia? Are they still alive?

If Marx was thought to have "died" but then survived and is still around, who's to say that couldn't also be the case for Nightmare?

Nightmare has not appeared for a long time after Kirby's Adventure and its remake, Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land. In fact I'm pretty sure the only other appearance he's made in the series is... a parallel version of him in Super Kirby Clash, and I think that's basically it.

But Marx was similar! He didn't show up for a bunch of games after Super Star. And then he just randomly shows up in Star Allies lmao.

Maybe Nightmare is still out there, recuperating for a long time after Kirby kicked his ass. Perhaps he could be planning his next attack as he tries to become much, much, much stronger than he was before.

And maybe Dark Matter could make a return. Maybe one of the Dark Matter leaders in the DMT games could be recuperating and planning a new attack, or a brand new Dark Matter leader could exist.

I think it'd be awesome of Nightmare or Dark Matter were to come back as villains in future Kirby games. There's huge amounts of potential for how powerful they could be in the Kumazaki era. They could easily expand on these villains' powers and motivations.

Imagine if Nightmare grew stronger and, instead of making only Dream Landers have nightmares, what if he was able to make multiple planets or even the whole universe have nightmares? They didn't really push his potential far enough, in my opinion. And Dark Matter could be a lot more ferocious and scary in the Kumazaki era.

HAL didn't really seem to confirm Nightmare's or Dark Matter's deaths the same way they did for Sectonia and Haltmann. Maybe they could still be out there. And maybe they could attack again?

Just a cool thought, in my opinion.
