Had an extremely productive day yesterday. Showed these fellas how to repurpose pallet boards to line closets and walls. Had lunch from the “Haitian Diner” and it was incredible. Ripped out 3 rooms worth of rotten wood, and in the process found a board from the top of the stack when it was loaded onto the Sweeting’s vessel, “MV Fendo” in the 1950’s. //•𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 Every New Year's we Southerners break out our traditions to ensure the new year brings us all the best things in life. One of my favorite traditions is the eating of black eyed peas. Of course collard greens and fried chicken accompanied this wonderful meal, but my mother always told me that eating black eyed peas on the first day of the new year would ensure that I had prosperity throughout the year. I would pile my plate up with peas because I wanted to make sure I was prosperous all year! This tradition has become one of my favorites and I'm not sure if black eyed peas truly bring prosperity or not because I am always blessed but this tradition is one that brings family together at the new year for a delicious meal. It is a chance for us to fellowship, plan the year, and reminisce on the old. We take pictures, small videos, selfies, and all the memorabilia we need to reflect on in the coming years. And, if eating black eyed peas really is contingent on how many pennies I'll have throughout the year; let's just say next year I'll be asking for a bigger plate 🤗 Why the new year's story in April? Well, I woke up this morning reflecting on my year so far and all the blessings that continuously flow. Feeling grateful for my Family, my Friends, my Love and those around me who continuously protect my energy and pour nothing but encouragement into my soul. We went to the Anchor Bay Friday Fish Fry in Governors Harbour. I had the #fish (obviously) and #potatosalad and #peasandrice. The fish was crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside. The potato salad had #hardboiledeggs and #paprika. Peas and rice is a uniquely #bahamianfood and is made with pigeon peas.
