Can’t wait to see the girls hanging out and drinking together. I’m not super familiar with the campaign so if this is a moment that actually took place, I have no idea what transpires but, personally, I’d love to have a moment here where Vex and Keyleth potentially address their respective relationships with Vax and Percy and perhaps Pike with Scanlan as well. Not that I only want them to talk about relationships, but it would allow an opportunity away from the boys for Vex to voice her approval between Keyleth and her brother now and even encourage her to do something about it. Likewise, I’m sure Keyleth is not blind to the interactions between her and Percy and could show encouragement for her as well. If not here, I’d love to see that happen at some point in the future. Also, I know she’s probably just drunk and it’s nothing but is it too much to ask that Keyleth is making dreamy eyes looking at or thinking about Vax here? Please?

138. The Wizard of Ahhhs - Todrick Hall, Pentatonix // Vex'ahlia Vessar ft. Percival de Rolo

She was damn good at what she did, and she knew it too. But confidence wasn't a substitute for infallibility and unfortunately for the ranger, she was, indeed, fallible. Someone had been out in these forests before them and whether they were here still or not, Vex'ahlia had more pressing matters at hand.

Speaking of hands and pressing, her shirt had been torn in half, midriff exposed to the elements in order to press the spare cloth against the still bleeding gash on her forearm. Gods dammit it all, if this didn't heal right, it would hamper her archery.

Percy's still at camp as Vex stumbles in and she doesn't bother with formalities. "Do...Do you got a first aid kit handy?" she mumbles, words slurring slightly with the loss of blood. She crumples to her knees, forcing more pressure on her wound, too stubborn to let a stupid mistake do her in. "Do-Do you...know how to patch up a wound?"

I mean there's tons I'm excited about with the legend of vox machina coming out, but I have to say I am most looking forward to perc'alia rocketing to the top of the ao3 pairings list again :)

bc I have a hard time finding enough uncle grog fics: how about cass and percy walking into the room where Grog is telling stories to the perc'alia kiddos, sittinga chair that belonged to cass and percy's father who used to do the same, being hit with some bitterweet nostalgia. and/or: Vex and percy coming back from a diplomatic meeting. they ask about the kids to one of the servents and they guide them do a room with grog asleep on one of the couches, with gwen napping ontop of him, vesper asleep with a book in her lap, all the de rolo kids+ charlie and trinket having a big nap.

Percy and Vex arrive home late in the evening, far later than they intended but neither of them are too concerned. Today babysitting duties fell to Grog who could not be more excited than to spend the day with all his nieces and nephews.

Despite being as deadly as they come, he's taken to being an uncle like a duck to water. Whenever he visits, there is always at least one child hanging from his arm or riding on his shoulder.

They make their way through the house to the second floor. Percy sticks his head into Vesper's room, but finds it dark and her bed made. He frowns and turns to Vex, "Vesper's not in her room."

"Leona and Wolfe aren't either."

Trying to squash down his panic, Percy checks Danny's and Gwen's room. Sure enough, they're both empty. He's about to spiral into full panic when they hear a loud snore coming from further down the hallway.

Exchanging a curious look, Vex and Percy creep down the hall to the guest room. The door is slightly ajar and they can see the warm like of a fire casting long shadows. Percy pushes open the door and a smile crosses his face as he steps aside to let Vex see in as well.

On the couch before the fireplace is Grog with baby Gwen sleeping on his chest, one of his massive hands keeping her in place. Under one arm, Vesper is fast asleep leaning on her uncle's shoulder, a book open in her lap. Under the other arm is Leona, Wolfe pressed between his twin and the arm of the couch. Danny is sleeping with his head on Vesper's shoulder, Charlie snuggled into his arms. Trinket lays on the ground in front of them, his massive head resting on Grog's feet.

"We should let them sleep, darling," Vex tells him, curling her hand around his arm. "They'll be so miserable when he has to leave tomorrow."

"You're right," he kisses Vex's head, taking a long look at their children before pulling the door closed and the two of them walk back to their bedroom.

Vaxleth Speculation

Just wanted to share some thoughts and speculation about Vaxleth before the season ends.

I'm really hoping the lack of Vaxleth moments in episodes 7-9 (and basically the entire season) means we'll be getting some significant ones in the last three because, if not, I definitely did not expect to get less of them in S2 than S1 and I'd be really disappointed. However, there are other reasons for lack of content between them that isn’t due to negligence. 

Right now, they both have reasons to be keeping each other at arm’s length. Vax is in a rough place after becoming the Matron’s champion but eventually speaking with her (as Keyleth encouraged) and fully accepting her should help boost his morale as well as reminding him even more how short life is. 

So far, Keyleth’s story this season consists of her conquering some fears. Fire can only hurt her if she lets it and she’s become more confident in herself and her abilities. This achievement could in turn be applied in other ways such as finding the strength to face potential emotional pain. She also made a comment while gassed up that “we’re just prisoners of our own anxieties searching for connection”. Though this line took place in a moment of levity, perhaps her words here speak to a deeper thought that’s been brewing regarding overcoming anxiety in the pursuit of finding genuine connection and therefore open herself up to those connections.

As her fear as brought up by Osysa hasn’t been fully addressed yet, I imagine it will in an overdue conversation with Vax as Keyleth looked concerned about him after his vision and has probably been wanting to speak to him to see how he’s doing and this could finally lead to them voicing how they’re really feeling and showing progress both individually and together. This could result in yet another rejection scene however, only this time there might be more of an admission that, yes, she loves him too but that fear of growing too close to someone just to lose them is what is truly keeping her at bay beyond just saying they have responsibilities to focus on like last season. That way the relationship is still technically taking a step forward as we get more explicit confirmation that Keyleth does care about him in that way too while also not fully becoming canon yet and saving that for next season.

However, if they perhaps believe they won't be able to defeat Umbrasyl and they're going to die, she has nothing to lose and, mustering some newfound confidence (fire can only hurt if you let it) she parallels Vax's confession to her in S1 and finally just tells him how she feels too, fears and all. That being said, I don't want things to feel rushed at the end especially given how little screen time they've shared this season. Becoming fully canon will require multiple conversations and big moments still in my opinion.

Of course, the lack of screentime between them also allows more time to be devoted to the progression of other couples. 2x08 was a very heavy Perc'alia episode so it's just as possible for one of these last episodes to feature a lot of Vaxleth development too and perhaps their lack of content recently is due to the fact that their spotlight is coming later. I mean, at this point Vax has talked to Percy more this season than he has Keyleth.

Anyway, I’m just begging for more interaction in general too. Anything. I'd love to see a hug, some smiles or something and even a role reversal with Keyleth being the one to encourage him and remind him how amazing he is perhaps to cheer him up. To see her make him happy. To see some of his old self surface. Please, I'm dying here and I'd be pretty heartbroken if this season ended with nothing super significant transpiring between them and/or to end their arc on a negative, hopeless note. But who knows, a lot can happen in an episode, perhaps there will be plenty to come with three more to go and there’s nothing to worry about...

Don’t Ship It

Why don’t you ship it?

I like some of Percy's character arc, but overall, I wasn't a big fan of him. And I do really like Vex, so they didn't even occur to me as a ship until they were happening. And I didn't have any other ships for Vex at that point, but I just wasn't really into it. A lot of thoughts I have about it are unfinished in general lol. Since I haven't seen Vox Machina in a while, it's hard for me to put it into words, but it taps into a few tropes that aren't really my jam.

What would have made you like it?

I'm not sure anything could have, actually. I'm pretty aware that a lot of this is based in my own personal biases, because Percy sort of reminds me of this ex I had whose ideal relationship was based in codependence. And then Percy and Vex together sort of reminded me of my brother and his ex-wife. So most of my dislike of the ship is based around my own personal bad experiences.

Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?

Oh yeah, for sure. Their wedding? Fucking gorgeous. I cried like a baby and will always cry over their vows to each other.

Not going to lie I've been super obsessed with that modern perc'alia au you did with the boxing, I keep grinning like a loon when i read it. How did the Renfaire date go if you're not to busy?

Oh jeez, that’s an old one and I haven’t written anything for CR in… awhile.

I think Vex did only the most cursory of google searches on Renfaire - where is it, when is it, etc - and definitely did not show up in costume. So she’s pretty surprised that Percy is in costume, or maybe isn’t in costume? Do modern blacksmiths still dress like medieval blacksmiths? Vex has no idea.

Percy is running a stall with a coworker (another pretty boy, Taryon Darrington, who is much less jacked than Percy but still absurdly attractive, honestly why do all the pretty boys work at a modern blacksmith shop?) and while Percy at first apologizes to Vex that he can’t actually leave the stall since he works there, his coworker overhears this, gasps in theatrical horror, and practically shoves Percy in Vex’s direction.

“You have a date, Percival,” Taryon scolds. “You can’t hide behind the counter all day!”

Percy turns crimson but he takes Vex’s arm like a gentleman and proceeds to escort her around to see everything, including the archery range. The tournament doesn’t start for another hour though.

“Was I supposed to bring my own bow?” Vex asks. “Because I didn’t.”

“Oh, no. In fact it’s probably good that you didn’t. Then they’d know you’re not an amateur and they might not let you compete.”

“Why Percival, that sounds downright underhanded,” Vex drawls.

He blinks his big blue eyes innocently, then ruins it with a grin. “Isn’t that the fun part? Showing everyone up when they aren’t expecting much?”

Vex is going to tie this man to her bed. Er, in a… nice way? She forgot he was a virgin for a second there. She’s going to make sweet love to him and then tie him to the bed.

And I have somewhat run out of steam here but to make a long story short, the date went very well, Vex won the archery contest effortlessly, Percy went home with Vex (much to Vax’s outrage because he was not forewarned), and Vex found out that his tattoos do in fact continue across his chest.

Percy still doesn’t know how any of this happened.
