A few of you who were here on tungles abut 6 years ago might remember this Solavellan project I made. For numerous reasons (not least of all legalese ones because I used a copyrighted language in the lyrics), I couldn't and didn't formally release it.
Despite the uphill battle I faced during the creation process, I believed in the underlying idea and had always planned on remaking it into something but didn't know what. A few months ago, I finally just went with my gut and tried a full piano solo. It quickly expanded from the original and got a LOT more feral, but that still suits it.

#30daysmusicchallenge2024 for Daughters of Darkness!
Day 7: A song that needs to be played LOUD:
Evanescence - Made of Stone
Made of Stone is one of the oldest songs written for Evanescence's third album. Amy said in an interview that it was written two years ago, meaning 2009 (part of her Broken Record).
Amy about MOS:
"I had that one from the first time we went into the studio for a minute, a year ago. It was part of that batch of songs that was really in a different direction before. And then bringing the band into it and making it more of this full rock song. Wow, it really jumped it up to a new level, sort of like the way I've always wanted it to be.
The song is strong, it's about strength. It's not completely literal 'cause obviously you can't numb yourself until you're made of stone. It's kind of saying, "I'll take it beyond this, I'm gonna have to make myself harder."
The piano solo featured during the middle eight is the same song Amy played in the "Meanwhile, in the studio..." video she posted on her Twitter account on May 11, 2011.

Thelonious Monk piano solo (cigarette break for sidemen)
Don't Blame Me
youtube
Thelonious Monk had an aunt who played piano accompaniments to silent films in a Harlem movie theater. He also grew up hearing a lot of Stride piano by NYC masters. Then there's the simple fact that Monk was the midwife in mid 1940s NYC for the birth of Bebop and what became Modern Jazz. Thelonious Monk was a pianist extraordinaire.

A short composition about some negative thoughts I have been having. Had to get it out of my system, you know? I've been seeing these superstars recently! Really great artists and animators who have the skill to make their visions real. These folks got big ideas and bright futures. It feels like I'm being left behind. breathing in the dust of all these people. It made me jealous and frustrated. I wanted that steeze! they all make it looks so easy!
But now that I have this written, I really feel more secure. My objective has always been to become the best me that I can become. So that's the ticket, train down the tracks. Keep on moving forward.

The aim of today's piece is to capture a very specific feeling about mundanity and boredom. I've attempted to capture this idea a few times, with varying amounts of success.
Part of why I've had trouble with this feeling in the past is that I can't even put it into words. It's not a sad feeling like melancholy, nor is it trying to celebrate mundanity in any way. To get around this, today's attempt at the idea avoided words entirely, and is simply me trying to express the idea through music alone.
So, I invite any and all interpretations to this piece, and I'd love to hear how you interpret and understand this!
As always, these pieces are welcome for anyone and everyone to play! All I ask is that you share it with me, because I'd love to hear it done by live players!

I really like Baldur's Gate 3, I think I have 4 playthroughs going at once with only 2 clears on top of that. Little piano rendition of "Down by the River" that I'd love people listening to~

Pspspspsps remember these? You might not if you weren't here back in about 2017-2019. These songs were almost all commissioned Dragon Age fan music projects. I liked them compositionally at the time but had more limited music resources back then, so I knew I'd want to remake them someday. Here we finally are.
Most were originally intended as character sketches back then and I wanted to keep them that way, so most are under 2 minutes. I kept them as piano/keyboard solos because why not?
