i don't post Pluto on here very often bc they're kind of my self-indulgent do-whatever-the-fuck-you-want-who-cares-if-its-cringe guy but idk i just thought this was neat

Some form of uranium fantasy AU where people can just. be born part pokemon? idk. point is, fuck you, they're a harpy now

In this AU their mutations are far milder, but still present (IE; they're still mutated, but it's not extreme to the point it was before- so no green blood, extra limbs [though voltasu and yatagaryu naturally have 3 arms] or weird extra organs) as a result of spending less time exposed to radiation while fleeing power plant zeta. However, the stress of fighting curie and trying to escape the power plant before theo fuckin. died of radiation poisoning. stressed them out so badly and put so much strain on their body that while they were trying to fly out of the power plant, they ended up evolving prematurely.

For a little more context on the whole early evolution thing; where a pokemon's evolution would normally be tied to their level, in their harpy/centaur/halfblood/whatever equivilant, level-up evolutions are instead tied to age, with level being seperate. Usually it's not a direct translation- Theo, a coatlith, for example, was fully evolved by the second half of the game, at 16*- but yatagaryu don't evolve until they're around 45-50, so Pluto evolving at the same age of 16**, around 30 years before the absolute youngest age they were supposed to be able to... undoubtedly caused some issues, particularly around the development of sexually dimorphic traits (like how male yatagaryu have whiskers and females have eye markings- Pluto has neither and instead developed absolutely massive crests and a giant, almost impossibly huge wingspan.) *ik he's like. 12. in canon. but i don't think everything taking place in-game would realistically happen in the span of a few months, so he and pluto are a few years older by the time curie *really* starts turning up the scale of her terrorism. plus, it'd make more sense IMO, with kellyn declaring him and pluto as fully-fledged rangers- and the current known minimum age for a working ranger is 16. **Yes, this means they evolved before Cameron, who's still a voltasu and has a few more years before he'll be able to catch up to the kid. poor guy.

Also elaboration on the battle info: where pokemon usually have one ability and one ability only, their half-blooded equivilants have 2, sometimes even 3 if they're eligible. Every halfblood has a regular ability and a hidden ability they can choose to activate if they can succeed a specific stat-check (so pluto, for example, can choose to activate Stormbringer whenever they want, but can only activate Chernobyl if they have a higher speed stat than their opponent), however in specific cases where their ability and hidden ability are compatible, they can try to succeed a far more difficult check- which can involve multiple stats and even held items- to activate a combo ability, which combines and amplifies the effects of their other abilities (so pluto would have to have both a higher speed and special attack stat than their opponent on top of needing to hold a uranium core, which allows them to take on their tertiary nuclear typing, to succeed their combo check and activate radiostorm).
