YD: Ahh, so adorable. I recorded some stuff, like them trying yukke. [Reading chat] Right? I was flabbergasted when I heard his age! I didn’t know that he was… 20 years old??? He was also shocked when I told him my age. I don’t really ask their ages when I’m talking to foreigners, we’re just friends, ‘cause they don’t have distinct honorific and informal languages like we do. And he guessed I was like, 23? [Laughs] I laughed my ass off.
YD: These kids are polite. They seem very polite, don’t they? Especially after hearing how old I am. It feels like they’re saying, “Yes ma’am, it’s very delightful.” So cute, and they seemed like they really enjoyed their meal.

YD talked about meeting up with Tubbo while he was in Korea and shares two videos of them eating food at a Korean BBQ place!
MASSIVE thank you to @Forgetmelotz on Twitter, who translated and subtitled this video and gave me permission to share it on Tumblr! Please make sure to give the original video a like.
[Full Video and Subtitle Transcript ↓ ]
⚠️ This transcript is VERY LONG! ⚠️
YD: So I was planning to have a dinner with Kei [a Kpop Idol / Singer], but unexpectedly, there's a foreigner friend I met on QSMP named Tubbo, he's from the UK, and apparently he's visiting Korea. And he posted an Instagram story about it. I saw it and was like "Wait, are you coming to Korea?" and it [Tubbo's post] even says Korea blah blah within the date two days after my birthday. So I sent him a DM and he responded with "Haven't you seen my Twitter DM?"
YD: I recently distanced myself a little from Instagram and Twitter for a while, yeah I didn't check my phone that often, and it turns out he messaged me about 3 - 4 days ago saying "YD, I'm flying to Korea! Blah blah–" so I was like "Oh, oh... I'm sorry I didn't see that!" and I checked the DM the day before he arrived here... I told him that I am so sorry and asked if I can meet him in person.
* [Translation note: this can also mean the other way around, ie: he may have asked her if they could meet in person]
YD: So we ended up seeing [each other] on the 21st. I was supposed to have dinner with Kei, so I told her "but my friend from abroad... is in Korea now... what should I do..." and we rescheduled the dinner to inviting her to come over next week. So um, the, right– Tubbo, Tubbo's friend [Eryn], Seoneng [one of YD's crew members] and Kang-si [YD's husband] the 5 of us had dinner together.
YD: We went to a Korean BBQ place. I was searching through restaurants thinking “Uh… which Korean restaurant should I take these foreigners to so that they would be super impressed?” [YD thanks a dono] Yeah, I was searching hard and so I asked Ryeori. You know the Kwak tori & Ryeori couple? Ryeori the hair designer, I asked him, “Reyori, I’m trying to buy a dinner for my foreigner friend, do you have any recommendations for where I should bring him?” and he started listing up like Michelin star-rated pork gukbap restaurants and stuff. Then he also tells me that it’s really difficult to find an actual Korean restaurant in Hongdae, like it’s difficult to find a decent place. There are mostly fusion Korean food [places]. But then he goes, “Oh, hey, this place looks fine” and recommends me this Korean BBQ restaurant. I decided to bring them there and fed them.
YD: The reason I liked that place was that they sell doenjang-jjigabe, galbi-tang, jeyuk bokkeum, and other dishes as well as their main menu, the beef KBBQ. The banchans [side dishes] were also served neatly, they even had japchae, they sold yukke. Obviously there are better Korean restaurants outside of Hongdae, but their hotel was located there. It wasn’t like he had a car here, so I was trying to meet them somewhere they can just walk to. So Hongdae it was. On top of that, YD 4-cuts is also located in Hongdae.** So I thought it would be the best to just eat out here. And while we were eating, I’ve recorded some videos.
** [Note: This is a photo booth event with custom YD frames, as show in the background of this video]
YD: [Scrolls through to find the videos and laughs] Ahh, so adorable. [She thanks another dono] And he guessed I was like, 23? [Laughs] I laughed my ass off.
[YD plays a video she took of Tubbo and Eryn at the restaurant]
Tubbo: Oh, ok. [?]: You should tell them how to eat it together.  Tubbo: You’re overestimating my chopstick skill.  [?]: Here. [Passes Tubbo some of the meat]  Tubbo: Oh, thank you. [?]: And here, together. Tubbo: Ok. [Takes a bite] Waitress: With this vegetable. Tubbo: Mm, it’s really sweet! [?]: Foreigners quite like it. Eryn: [Reaches over and tries some food too, struggling a bit with his chopsticks] [?]: Unexpected, right? [?]: Oh, they like yukke? [?]: They just need to get used to it. Waitress: I will grill and hand it over to you, so please help yourselves. [?]: Ok, thank you. Eryn: [Tries more food and gives it a thumbs-up] [?]: Hm, good?! Tubbo and Eryn: Yeah! Tubbo: So far 10/10.
[The video ends]
YD: These kids are polite. They seem very polite, don’t they? Especially after hearing how old I am. It feels like they’re saying, “Yes ma’am, it’s very delightful.” So cute, and they seemed like they really enjoyed their meal. They were eating it up. They drank soju, they ate some noodles, and even doenjang-jjigae. I’ve heard foreigners don’t really like the taste of doenjang-jjigae, but they ate pretty much [all] of it. The restaurant also had pot rice, so I made them try that too. They ate that well too.
[YD plays the second video she recorded of them at the restaurant]
Tubbo: Go crazy ok, yeah! Alright.
YD: We ordered naengmyeon for a palate cleanser too. We ordered a lot.
Tubbo: [Struggles to cut the noodles with the scissors that were handed to him]
YD: He’s asking why we cut the noodles.
Tubbo: [Manages to cut the noodles] Kang-si [?]: Ok, and- and– [does chopstick motion] Tubbo: [Laughs] What am I gonna need?  Eryn: Chopsticks? Kang-si [?]: Yeah. YD [?]: Chopsticks, mm. Eryn: [To Tubbo] You go first. Tubbo: [Inaudible] Why is it cold? YD [?]: Oh, because the noodle is cold.
YD: Yeah, he found it interesting that the noodle is cold.
Tubbo: [He struggles with his chopsticks] Oh no, oh no… [Everyone laughs] Kang-si [?]: Very difficult. Ok! Tubbo: [Manages to fish some noodles out and holds his hand under them so they don’t splash everywhere as he transports them to his bowl] Seoneng [?]: Oh, uh, oh! It might be difficult for them to eat that. YD [?]: Hm? Kang-si [?]: Do you want some, Seoneng? Gimme the chopsticks, I’ll share you some. Eryn: [To Tubbo] Slippery. How did you get it?  Kang-si [?]: I’ll give you some, hand me the chopsticks. Seoneng [?]: Can I hand you mine? Just a small amount, please.
YD: They mimicked how Kangseok [Kang-si, YD’s husband] handles the noodles. Like, picking up the noodles like this and moving it to your dish.
Tubbo: That’s why you’re better than me (?).
YD: That’s Seoneng.
Kang-si [?]: Here’s your chopsticks, Seoneng. Eryn: I think this is enough. YD [?]: Oh, he’s taking some to his dish. Seoneng [?]: He learned. Tubbo: Do you like, spin 'em? Seoneng [?]: Scissors? Kang-si [?]: Like– [He holds up his chopsticks and shows them how to do it. Ok. OK! Eryn: [Picks up only a few noodles, which dangle] Seoneng [?]: Good! Tubbo: Maybe I did- I did a sht job of cutting, I'm sorry. Eryn: That's ok. Doing good.
YD: It had a nice atmosphere.
Eryn: Bravo. Tubbo: Oh, thank you. YD [?]: The noodles might be a bit slippery for them to...
YD: They really struggled to pick the noodles up. They asked why we cut the noodles then proceeds to eat like that 'cuz it's too long.
YD [?]: Shall we cut it? Kang-si [?]: Eryn? [He leans forward and cuts Eryn's noodles with scissors]
YD: –So we had to cut it for him like he's a baby.
[Everyone laughs] Eryn: It kept on moving!
[The video ends]
YD: [Laughs] Ah, so cute. It was fun. So we tried various dishes together. And uh, UK– UK– both of them are from the UK, but they didn't know there is a viral series of British students trying Korean food,*** so I told them "Seeing how you react to unfamiliar foods, like... How do I put this? You were very polite trying these out, not making any weird disgusted noises (so you can go viral too)." They didn't refuse anything. Well, they also said that this was the best Korean food they had so far. They might've been just being polite, but still, you know, they were... Hmm, very neat? Yeah. I get why he's so popular.
*** [Note: YT: Korean Englishman]
YD: Anyways, it was a lot of fun. After the meal, I asked them if they wanted to go take a YD 4-cut with us, explaining this is a trending form of birthday event amongst fans of younger generations in Korea where they rent and run a photobooth for their YouTuber / CCs / Influencers. I asked "It's close from here, you wanna go?" and he said yes. That's how we ended up taking a group photo. It wasn't planned beforehand.
YD: We arrived there– [Laughs] I tried, I knew it closes at 10pm, so I tried to visit there around then (to avoid people). So we got there around 9:30? And my fans were sitting there waiting for me. As soon as they spot me they go, "Wooooooo!!! It's so good to see you in person!!!" ...then they started crying, which made Tubbo and Eryn panic a bit. They were like "Wow YD, u a superstar! Whoa." [Laughs]
YD: No, 'cuz I told them that there might be a few fans because it's my birthday event, and they were OK with it. Well, he's also a Youtuber, so he wouldn't be too unfamiliar with this kinda situation I figure. But even though I warned [him] about it, they seemed a bit surprised as people started SOBBING, so Kangseok evacuated them all. He told them, "Let's get out and try some salted butter rolls while she..." The boys leave and get bread, and I go have a short conversation with my fans, take photos, give autographs... [Laughs]
YD: It was a LOT of fun. It was a memorable day.

I love love LOVE your Korea and AmeKor headcanon list! You really opened my eyes to this ship! I've been binging your content on it. The way you approach these characters is so cool and really refreshing!
If you have the time, I was wondering if you had any head canons about what their favourite dishes from each other's culture are. Like, what's Americ's favourite Korean dish, and what's Korea's favourite American dish?
Thank you in advance!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ㅇㅏㅏㅏㅏㅏ진짜감동이다..... you don't know how much this ask means to me!!! amekor was my driving force when I first joined the fandom, and my love for them still stays strong <3 thank you for the compliments, too! so here are some sketches i made of them, the 2nd one is more relevant to your ask!
my korea oc was being fleshed out around the same time I began to ship amekor, so I tried to go about my oc in the most authentic way I could think of as a korean, and then apply her personality to the ship and adjust the dynamics!
I'm always open to answer asks about amekor!! it was kind of hard to find a favorite korean dish for america, since there's a lot of korean food americans seem to love. this one won't be 100% authentic, but I feel like traditional galbi, as well as LA galbi, would be his favorite. galbi is grilled beef rib(sometimes pork) and it's traditionally prepared in a way where the rib is cut alongside the bone in a parallel way.
however, korean immigrants in LA couldn't find ribs prepared that way since ribs in the US are prepared differently in stores, so they turned to local mexican stores and butchers that sold the meat cheaper, with the rib cut across the bone to create the iconic look of bone sticking out in the middle of the rib.
i feel like he would enjoy both, since alfred feels like the kind of guy that loves to grill in the summer. soojin probably taught him how to make the marinate sauce, but he still feels like it tastes better when she makes it.
as for korea, the 2 most popular foods are fried chicken and burgers, however, fried chicken has changed in terms of sauce to be more "korean" and so another popular food worldwide is korean fried chicken. this is the more popular one, so I felt it wasn't right to include a korean-influenced food. I've heard many different stories on how fried chicken was introduced to korea, some say it was the black american soldiers who introduced the dish during the korean war, with the korean sauce version(양념치킨) made by a restaurant owner who noticed how people struggled to eat regular fried chicken as it was tough, so he softened the shell and created a sweet and spicy sauce to marinate the chicken in hopes it would attract more customers, and it worked! burgers were introduced when fast food chains such as burger king and mcdonalds launched in korea for the first time. people were initially worried since the food appeared to be so greasy and unhealthy, but they quickly learned to love it, and we have bulgogi burgers of course!

Characters: Tetora, Hinata
"This time, I'll try my best to show that I'm a "man among men"!"

Season: Winter Location: Yumenosaki Academy Garden Terrace
Tumblr media
Tetora: Hmm~m, hmm~mm...
Hinata: My, my~? Why're you staring at your phone? I mean, you'd usually be all over the delicious food in front of you, Tetsu-kun.
Today's special is the galbi[1] set meal, which made a triumphant comeback thanks to your passionate request, right?
I thought you'd be overjoyed since you kept sending requests to the cafeteria saying you wanted to eat it again.
Tetora: Of course I'm happy! I've been grieving the way it disappeared from the cafeteria menu all this time!
So I really am happy they brought back the galbi special!
I'm really happy, yet... Hnnn.
Hinata: Oh dear, now you've started worrying again...
Hellooo~? Your meal will get cold if you keep at it like this~ If you don't want it, then I'll take it~
Tetora: Woagh?! This is my galbi!
When the galbi's gone, it turns into just a regular meal set! Spare me from that, at least!
Hinata: Tch~ I thought I could have one more dish for lunch, bummer...~
Well, joking aside. What the heck are you so worried about you'd even ignore your beloved galbi?
Tetora: ...Actually, I got a message from Anzu-anego saying that my "Feature Live" has been decided.
Hinata: Oh, that's great news!
I see, I see, so that's why you were staring at your phone instead of eating.
If that's the case, then you're troubled 'cause of that "Feature Live," right, Tetsu-kun?
Tetora: That's exactly it. This time, it's my solo live, huh.
So, I've been thinking about it again. What kinda "Feature Live" do I wanna do as the current me?
Hinata: I see~ But it's a little surprising that you're worried about such things.
If it were the usual Tetsu-kun, I thought you'd immediately say, "I wanna make it a live that feels like a man among men! Ossu!"
Well, but surprisingly, Tetsu-kun has a sensitive side too~ Like, if you trip over a pebble, it seems like you'll keep thinking about the cause for a long time, y'know?
Tetora: ...I wish you wouldn't make such a strangely realistic analogy.
At first, just like Hinata-kun said, I wanted to make it a "man among men" live.
But when I thought again about what a "man among men" means, I kinda became unsure...
Remember when I had my personalized outfit made?
At that time, I didn't have any specific preferences other than wanting a cool outfit, right?
Hinata: Oh~ You sure said that.
Looking back now, saying "I want a manly outfit" and then answering that you don't have any specific preferences wasn't very manly at all.
Tetora: Ughh...?!
Hinata: Answering "what do you want for dinner?" with "anything's fine" is as troublesome as it gets.
In that situation, a man among men should quickly reply with "Meat!" ♪
Tetora: You've changed the subject, Hinata-kun!
Hinata: Ahaha, my bad, my bad. But you get my point, yeah?
Tetora: ...Well, I do get it.
It's hard for me to hear when, even today, I was struggling to decide between the galbi special or the ginger pork special, or perhaps katsudon...
Uuu... I'm so pathetic! Not manly at all!
Hinata: Wow, a lighthearted topic I casually brought up is making an unexpected wildfire spread?!
W-Well, Tetsu-kun, calm down.
What to have for lunch and the live are on totally different levels of importance. Though it's understandable that you're feeling troubled.
And, look. When it came to the personalized outfit, after all that, we properly organized what you wanted to do with it, and then gave the requests to Anzu-san, right?
Tetora: You helped me out a lot back then, Hinata-kun. I was seriously grateful.
...Even now, I still believe the answer I gave to Anego was correct.
The ideal image I have in my mind. The cool appearance of "a figure that keeps growing while working hard" is the same as ever.
But, wouldn't that result in the answer being the same as before? If it's identical this time, wouldn't that lead to a contradiction?
Hinata: A contradiction?
Tetora: See, I'm saying that I wanna keep growing, but the answer's the same as before. Can you really call that "growth"?
Hinata: Ah, I get it. I think I understand what you're trying to say.
In short, if nothing changes from before, then it'll look like you haven't grown.
But the part of you that says "keep working hard and keep growing" is the part that shouldn't be changed so easily.
If that part changes, then it wouldn't be Tetsu-kun anymore.
Tetora: Yeah! Yeah, that's right. Because that's a part of me I don't want to waver, I end up worrying even more.
I need to think about the direction of the pamphlet, but I'm at a loss for what to do...
Hinata: So let's do it again?
A "Meeting to Discuss Tetsu-kun's Feature Live!" Something like that, while borrowing everyone's strength!
Tetora: Hm~mm. I would like to ask for help from everyone, but for now, I wanna think a little more on my own.
We shouldn't start thinking together until I decide what kind of live I want.
I feel like I need to decide on my ideal before moving forward.
Tumblr media
Hinata: ...I see. I get it.
Well then, I'll be waiting for the moment when you're like, "Ah, this is it!"
And if you want, you can show it to us in person at the live! It'd be like a surprise!
Tetora: Ossu! I'm really indebted to you for all the support you've given me, Hinata-kun.
This time, I'll try my best to show that I'm a "man among men"!
Galbi is a type of grilled meat dish from Korean cuisine.

Okay, so I posted the Eid post Wednesday and then decided to have Grace, her parents, and Iseul celebrate Eid in-game and take some nice photos. Grace’s dad Samuel makes butter chicken from his wife's family's recipe, Grace makes samosas that her maami(maternal auntie) taught her, and Iseul makes Galbi-jjim from her appa's recipe, using beef instead of pork for her in-laws, and the family sits down to eat.
Iseul glances at Grace throughout the dinner. Two days before Grace’s parents had arrived, she'd told Grace about the awkward moment between her and Megan, how she'd brought up to Megan how she wished she had married her back in their twenties. Grace had been understanding but upset and Iseul had felt like an asshole. Not only did she hurt Grace, but she made things awkward for Megan who didn't feel the same way about her, and for Megan’s wife Tess who she had become friends with. She and Grace had talked through it the next day, and they were better but still shaky.
Now, Iseul smiles weakly as Samuel compliments her Galbi-jjim. "Thanks Mr. S, it was my appa's recipe." She says. "Grace bheta, take some butter chicken." Amna cajoles her daughter, who nods and ladles some chicken and rice onto her plate. Amna and Samuel wash the dishes despite Iseul and Grace's protests, and head to the guest room for a nap.
Iseul looks at Grace. "Are we okay?" She asks gently. "Yes, I'm still a bit upset but I love you." Grace says. "I understand, and Gracie I love you too. I do have feelings for Megs, but I don't love her anymore and I know it's stupid and I'm trying not to feel that way about her." Iseul says in a rush, and Grace nods. "I believe you, I just don't want to get married to you until we resolve this." She says, twisting the ring on her finger, and Iseul nods, biting her lip. "I talked to Megs, and we both decided to put some distance between ourselves for a while. Megs told Tess what happened and they're trying to work things out between themselves and I want to work things out with you." Iseul says, ignoring the hollow feeling in her chest as she says it. Grace's face clears a little and she nods. "I'm sorry that she and Tess are going through it too." She adds, and Iseul nods, her stomach churning with guilt. She resolves to work things out with Grace, and to talk with her older brother Min Jun and ask him for advice, knowing that he'd be disappointed but understanding about how she's feeling.

recent food ive made:
- hong shao rou (went mostly well, sugar was a little burnt and it’s difficult to do this in a pot that the sauce sticks to very easily - keep a GOOD eye on the sugar, it will become in the “sticky” phase incredibly quickly - also make sure to simmer the pork belly longer, wasn’t as tender as it could’ve been - MAYBE MARINATE?)
- ssam (easy! just buy pre-marinated bulgogi/galbi and cook, make sure to pull it when it’s still a little bit squishy so the residual heat can cook it, also make sure you don’t overcrowd the pan and steam the meat - fresh lettuce is important, try adding onions next time)
- salmon onigiri (relatively easy - pre-season your salmon very lightly, i find a touch of salt and pepper + lemon works best, cook for 14 mins. at 400 and pull when it’s still a little squishy)
- japanese-style chicken karaage (difficult - frying is HARD, i recently purchased a skimmer so that makes the oil cleaning process easier! careful with the fry times, marinate for the FULL 30 mins. beforehand - when frying, double-fry is important, fry light golden first time and let it rest to cook further)

korean food kind , taste ,characteristics
korean food Kind
There are various Korean foods that foreigners like, but I will introduce some especially famous ones
Bulgogi: "Bulgogi" means "grilled meat" in Korean. Mostly beef, it is marinated in a gochujang-based seasoning, grilled, and eaten with vegetables. The meat is tender and sweet, and eating with various ingredients has gained an important place in Korean eating culture.
Kimchi: The symbol of Korean food, kimchi is a seasoned vegetable dish made by fermenting cabbage or various vegetables. It is loved by many people for its simple cooking process and healthy fermentation. While spicy flavor is emphasized, variations made relatively less spicy are also popular.
Bibimbap: "Bibimbap" means to mix well, which is a food that is eaten by putting a variety of vegetables, meat, eggs, etc. on top of rice, flavoring them with spices such as red pepper paste, and then mixing them well. It is also very popular with foreigners as a simple, delicious, and nutritious meal.
Tteokbokki: "Ddeok" means a rice cake made by kneading rice flour, and "Bokki" means stir-fry. He let out a quiet chuckle despite turning red. Getting the attention of the grandpa, he smiled widely and made their orders. Asking for the marinated pork belly and squid she wanted along with some galbi and a soup he recommended. Once the order was in, he looked back over at Jae trying not to be flustered. "I would love to me Star and Sunny."
Jae smiled as she watched him order their food, almost admiringly over such a simple task. Then again, she would probably simply admire him breathing at this point if she was allowed to. She felt herself going absolutely crazy over him, as much as she was trying not to. "They would love to meet you, too. I think you and Star will get along really well."

The Grand Buffet is Finally Back at Grand Hyatt Manila
Tumblr media
After four long years, The Grand Buffet is finally back at Grand Hyatt Manila! I have been waiting for them to bring back their full buffet setup for lunch and dinner ever since they had to stop it during the pandemic. While they already reopened their all-day dining cafe for buffet breakfast, they only offered an a la carte and a semi-buffet menu for lunch and dinner in the previous years. Now, I'm happy to once again be able to go around their expansive buffet and dining areas to try all these signature specialties.
Tumblr media
Indulge in an endless journey of flavors as The Grand Kitchen reopens its buffet service for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Hungry Kat was invited for a grand media launch last February 15, 2024 at The Grand Kitchen which you can find on the second floor, right after you go up the lobby's escalators. Our family loves staying at Grand Hyatt Manila during the holidays, so we've tried their buffet breakfast several times already, but I'm really excited to be here to try their newly reopened lunch buffet.
Tumblr media
The Grand Buffet is available daily for lunch from 12:00nn to 2:30pm at only P1888 nett per person. This is one of the best value-for-money rates you can find in a five-star luxury hotel in the city. The dinner buffet is also offered daily from 6:00pm to 10:00pm for P2888 nett person while breakfast buffet is at P1655 nett. They also have a special Grand Sunday Brunch for P3400 nett per person.
Tumblr media
The elegant and colorful interiors inside the Grand Kitchen provide a charming space that feels much like home. It doesn’t look like your typical busy restaurant at all, with its dark wooden hues and spacious surroundings. Guests can choose to sit at the long tables or at the more comfortable sofas and chairs.
Tumblr media
We actually like this dining area near the glass windows where you have a charming view of their gorgeous lobby lounge and the lobby itself just below.
Tumblr media
Nine chefs present their culinary mastery through key signature dishes spread out among different international stations at The Grand Kitchen. Guests can get a global gastronomic experience featuring a delightful array of Thai specialties, succulent meats from the grill, beloved Balinese and Chinese classics, authentic Japanese sushi, tempting Korean street food, and much more.
Tumblr media
Let's begin our journey at the Salad Station. Here you can create your own bowl of greens for a healthy start to your trip. You can also ask them to prepare a Caesar Salad for you, or the Som Tam Salad which is a Thai green papaya salad. There's also a selection of hams and cheeses including gouda, brie, manchego, emmen.
Tumblr media
Just nearby is the Bread Station serving Focaccia, baguette, sourdough, rye, and other freshly-baked breads.
Tumblr media
You can also get some pasta dishes like the Baked Mac & Cheese, penne with mushroom cream, beef lasagna, or. spaghetti with tomato sauce.
Tumblr media
I really love Japanese cuisine, so I headed to the Japanese Station offering lovely sushi and sashimi. I got myself a plate of salmon and tuna sashimi together with a few pieces of Aburi Sushi.
Tumblr media
The Tempura Moriawase was also my immediate target so I got myself a few pieces of these crunchy shrimp tempura.
Tumblr media
Now let's explore another country and head over to China. The Chinese Station presents these lovely roastings hanging on the glass window.
Tumblr media
Guests can ask for slices of Char Siu Pork, Hainanese Chicken, and Roasted Duck all in one plate. Combine these with your choice of chilis and sauces.
Tumblr media
You can also find some Taiwanese Pork Belly Buns and Mapo Tofu here. Other dishes you can try include salt and pepper pork, wok fried beef, and beef ho fan noodles.
Tumblr media
Next up is the Korean Section which comes with this colorful Korean Fried Chicken, Pork Galbi, Korean Spicy Beef and even French Fries.
Tumblr media
There's even a selection of Kimchi for those who love eating this spicy Korean side dish. I've never seen these many kinds of kimchi before so it's really a specialty here at The Grand Kitchen.
Tumblr media
Those who really like Asian food will definitely enjoy a trip to the Thai Station. Start with some Tom Yum Soup which you can customize with condiments and your preferred spice level.
Tumblr media
Other Thai specialties include the Thai Spring Rolls, Khao Pad, and Kaeng Phet which is a thick red curry that would go so well with rice.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
I'm went ahead and got a small dessert because I really love the Mango Sticky Rice. This is what I always look for when I go to Thailand and I also like this version at The Grand Buffet.
Tumblr media
Don't worry if you prefer something more familiar, because they also have a dedicated station offering Filipino favorites like the Pork Adobo, Beef Kaldereta, Laing, Fried Chicken, and even Garlic Rice.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Over at the carving station, you can ask for as many slices of this Beef Brisket in Barbecue Sauce as you want. The beef was really smoky and tender.
Tumblr media
If all those station are still not enough, head over to the Mongolian Barbecue and Grill Station where the chefs will cook your choice of meats and seafood on the grill.
Tumblr media
Choose your own ingredients to include inside your Mongolian Barbecue and they will prepare it for you.
Tumblr media
Better yet, ask them to grill your meats and seafood on the spot. Choose from among Pork Liempo, Chicken Inasal, Beer Marinated Beef, Mussels, Baby Squid, and Baby Octopus. There's also a Robata to Order where you can get Chicken Satay, Beef Satay, or Bacon Wrapped Moki.
Tumblr media
Both the lunch and dinner buffets come with free-flowing brewed coffee and tea, but you can add a few more refreshing drinks from their a la carte beverage menu. I had a refreshing Classic Homemade Iced Tea but you can also order fruit juices and even sparkling wine.
Tumblr media
For desserts, head over to the Dessert Station where you can choose from a variety of sweet treats. There's Mango Sago, Creme Brulee Pudding, Panna Cotta, Chocolate Brownies, Strawberry Shortcake, Tiramisu, Cheesecake, and Apple Crumble. You can also get a serving of Chocolate or Vanilla Sundae topped with sprinkles, gummy worms, and raspberry sauce.
Tumblr media
We would like to thank Grand Hyatt Manila Director for Sales and Marketing Eugene Tamesis and Director for Marketing and Communications Inah Manalaysay for inviting us to the grand launch of The Grand Buffet. This is the return that we had been waiting for and this will surely make our next stays at Grand Hyatt Manila even more enjoyable. Book your tables now!

Exploring the Charms of Korean BBQ: A Culinary Journey into Flavor and Tradition
Tumblr media
Korean BBQ, with its sizzling grills, tantalizing aromas, and communal dining experience, has captured the hearts and taste buds of food enthusiasts worldwide. This culinary tradition is not just about the food; it's an immersive cultural experience that brings people together to celebrate flavors, friendship, and tradition. In this article, we'll delve into the essence of Korean BBQ, its history, key dishes, and the unique elements that make it a cherished culinary adventure.
A Brief History:
Korean BBQ traces its roots back centuries to the Korean peninsula, where grilling meat was a common practice dating back to the Three Kingdoms period (57 BC – 668 AD). However, it wasn't until the Joseon Dynasty (1392–1910) that grilled meats became more prominent in Korean cuisine. During this time, social gatherings often revolved around communal grilling, laying the groundwork for the modern Korean BBQ experience we know today.
Key Ingredients and Preparation:
At the heart of Korean BBQ are high-quality meats, typically beef, pork, or chicken, marinated in a blend of savory, sweet, and spicy flavors. One of the most iconic marinades is bulgogi, thinly sliced beef marinated in a mixture of soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, garlic, and pepper. Another favorite is galbi, beef or pork ribs marinated in a sauce made from soy sauce, garlic, sugar, and sesame oil.
The grilling process is as integral to the experience as the marinade itself. Traditionally, meats are cooked over a charcoal grill, imparting a smoky flavor that enhances the overall taste. However, modern Korean BBQ restaurants often use gas or electric grills for convenience without compromising on flavor.
Accompaniments:
No Korean BBQ spread is complete without an array of banchan, or side dishes, which complement the grilled meats perfectly. These may include kimchi (fermented vegetables), pickled radishes, bean sprouts, spinach, and more. Banchan adds variety and balance to the meal, offering contrasting flavors and textures that enhance the overall dining experience.
Additionally, diners often wrap grilled meats in lettuce leaves along with rice, garlic, ssamjang (a spicy paste), and other condiments, creating ssam, a flavorful bite-sized parcel bursting with taste.
The Dining Experience:
What truly sets Korean BBQ apart is its communal aspect and interactive dining experience. Meals are typically enjoyed with family and friends gathered around a table with a built-in grill, where everyone participates in cooking and sharing food. This creates a convivial atmosphere, fostering conversation and camaraderie as diners bond over delicious food.
Moreover, Korean BBQ is not just a meal but a sensory journey. The sights, sounds, and smells of the grill evoke a sense of anticipation and excitement, heightening the dining experience and leaving a lasting impression on diners.
Popularity and Global Influence:
In recent years, Korean BBQ has surged in popularity worldwide, thanks to its bold flavors, interactive nature, and Instagram-worthy presentation. Korean BBQ restaurants can now be found in major cities across the globe, attracting both Korean expatriates longing for a taste of home and curious food enthusiasts eager to explore new culinary horizons.
Furthermore, Korean BBQ has influenced contemporary food culture, inspiring fusion dishes, culinary trends, and even dedicated cooking shows and YouTube channels. Its widespread appeal transcends borders, bringing people together through a shared love of food and culture.
Conclusion:
Korean BBQ is more than just a meal; it's a cultural phenomenon that celebrates the art of grilling, the joy of shared dining, and the richness of Korean culinary heritage. From its humble origins to its global popularity, Korean BBQ continues to captivate hearts and palates, inviting diners on a flavorful journey steeped in tradition and community. So, gather your friends, fire up the grill, and embark on your own Korean BBQ adventure—it's an experience you won't soon forget.
