Thai Spiky Isopod

Family: Armadillidae Scientific Name: Isopoda sp. Adults : 0.5-1.2 cm

Just look at their little spikes!!! 😍 I didn't know the family name of these little potato bugs/rolly pollies (New York names) until a few days ago and I can't stop saying it.

Armadillidae. (arm-uh-dilly-day) It's really just the -dillidae that gets me. 😆

A lot of the information out there has more to do with keeping them in terrariums so I'm still on the lookout for more "scientific" information. 🤔

New "Potato Bug" stickers made it in time for Furnal Equinox! I'll have them at my table this coming weekend and then in the shop once I reopen in April. 🐛

Another potato bug plushie? On my blog? It's more likely than you think.

I once again used this lovely pattern (with some personal modifications) to create a new buggie pal, this time for a good friend of mine! We're doing a craft trade, which means I'll be sending her this potato and she'll send me a little crochet creation in return. I've never done a craft trade before but I'm very excited :>

My friend loves purple so I used a periwinkle fleece for the shell this time around, and I think it turned out very cute!

Giant Marine Isopod

The largest known isopods found in the deep waters, as far down as 1600 ft, measuring around 16 inches in length.

Food scarcity makes these scavengers eat what they find, including whale carcasses they will gorge on until they can hardly move. It's been recorded in captivity that they can survive up to 5 years without food.

Conservation Status: Unlisted / Insufficient Data

If you have a shellfish food allergy, that goes for isopods as well since they are crustaceans! Be careful not to eat the back yard rollie-pollies!

Found this absolutely gorgeous girl in my porcellio laevis colony today, they are actually the calmest isopods I’ve ever had. Perfect starters :)

@cutiepieautistic Day four: create a stimboard for your favorite insect species ISOPODS!!!! Are they technically insects? No, however, they are my most favoritest babies ever. This one was so hard to do, I love so so many bugs. I used to have a terrarium of pillbugs that I found outside. More miscellaneous isopods below !
